C.J. Garton’s Latest Single “Good Gone” Exhibits All The Trademarks Of A Real Traditional Country Song
Tumblr media
Traditional country singer-songwriter and Oklahoma native C.J. Garton’s latest single “Good Gone,” from his double-length album Tales of the Ole West and Other Libations to Please the Palate, continues to deliver modern-day masterful songwriting works of the lost traditional sound, which most of current country music lacks. “Good Gone” is available everywhere now from G-Bar Records and The Orchard and to country radio programmers via Austin Radio Promotions. Garton wrote “Good Gone” on the first day of a multi-state 700+ mile horseback journey he embarked on with his son in 2019. The night before, he celebrated his anniversary with his wife and stayed out late. He was feeling it the next morning as he walked across the church parking lot. His idea of someone hungover from a heartache came to mind and he immediately wrote down the lyrics and recorded the melody to his phone. “The song just hit me out of nowhere,” Garton said, “and I stopped for a bit, wrote it on my phone in the notes application, put the phone in my pocket and then began our 700 mile trip together.  Over the duration, I wrote 32 songs in 30 days while on horseback.” Garton is an Oklahoma native with Cherokee blood running through his veins. He splits his time between his family’s ranch just outside of Bristow, Oklahoma, a busy tour schedule, and his private recording studio where he laid the tracks down on his latest collections of songs with iconic country music producer, songwriter and fiddle effigy Joe Spivey (The Time Jumpers, John Anderson, Teea Goans). Single name: “Good Gone” Album name: Tales of the Ole West and Other Libations to Please the Palate Record label: G-Bar Records / The Orchard ISRC#: US3U82100172 Album audio produced by: Joe Spivey, C.J. Garton is a 6th generation rancher with Cherokee blood running through his veins, and still lives on a cattle farm that was founded by his family during America’s land rush in the late 1800’s, just outside of Bristow, Oklahoma.  C.J. is a consummate cowboy in well-worn boots, schooled in the kind of life that rises with the sun and is sustained by the land.  A life like this inevitably shapes a man into a natural storyteller which just so happens to be the very foundation the Red Dirt music scene was built upon. C.J. Garton is a proud descendant of that Oklahoma soil and the unprocessed music that grows out of it.  His songs are, by definition, working man’s music; all heart with an honest story behind them. LANSING ROCK/METAL BAND OF VIRTUE SIGN WITH SHARPTONE RECORDS, MUSIC VIDEO FOR NEW SINGLE 'SUFFER' OUT TODAY
Lansing, Michigan’s crushing rock/metal band Of Virtue has officially joined forces with SharpTone Records and has released a brand-new single/video called “Suffer.” The band joins the ranks of the label’s roster that includes notable acts like Miss May I, Crystal Lake and Being As An Ocean among others.
“We are humbled and honored to be welcomed as a part of the SharpTone family. It is a dream come true for us to be on the same platform as many bands we look up to now and also some which we grew up listening to as well! We can’t wait to see what the future holds!" – Damon Tate (Guitar)
WATCH THE VIDEO FOR “SUFFER”: https://youtu.be/adUGEVb9C3k
“We all have moments where we are grasping for straws, trying to make sense of the mess around us and just come up with nothing. “Suffer” was written from the perspective of someone who can’t seem to get out of their own head at times and is fed up with where their choices have led them. The song also deals with the role religion plays into this search and how people can use or attempt to pacify themselves with religion instead of taking a hard look into themselves in order to figure out the root of the pain” – Damon Tate (Guitar)
Formed in Lansing, Michigan in 2009 with the concept of bringing positivity to their listeners, Of Virtue came out strong with their 2009 EP To Breathe Again. The band followed in 2012 with Learn/Love, a limited release EP, which sold out almost immediately. In 2015, Of Virtue added more power to their sound via the release, Salvation, an album which has grown to be a staple for the band's sound. Later in 2017, the band released a stand-alone single, “Ghost Town,” and quickly added it to their live show only to be met with a major positive response. After this the band followed with their breakthrough singles "Surrounded" and "Torn Apart" which secured their efforts as proving.
Of Virtue continues touring constantly to bring its sound to as many people live as possible. They have performed in the majority of states in the Continental U.S, in 12 countries in Europe and beyond. They have sold music and merchandise to over 50 countries across 6 continents. They have played several major heavy music festivals including Warped Tour, Cornerstone, JAMboree, Bled Fest, and Rockapalooza. Hot Topic awarded them the Band Grand prize in 2010 and the Earn It Yourself tour, which put them on the Kevin Says Stage at Warped Tour Detroit in 2011. Of Virtue have built a reputation an unmatched act supporting such bands Bring Me The Horizon, Of Mice and Men, Every Time I Die, The Ghost Inside, For Today, Architects, and many others. The band has no plans to stop or slow down soon, on the contrary.
Of Virtue is Tyler Ennis (Vocalist), Damon Tate (Guitarist), Michael Valadez (Guitarist), Jon Fox (Bassist), and Kyle Pruehs (Drummer).

Not so sure about how much time will be in OK vs LA. If Blake is there bet your house Gwen will be there and so will the boys. When you go to private school your friends are scattered and it's not like they live down the block so throw out that draw back to LA. Gavin has two descent breaks from now until Oct and I think one of them is when the boys are back in school so we can throw out that draw back to LA. Really bothers me that people talk without doing a little research and they are adamant.
Here’s the schedule (just the quick running one I have in my email drafts that I add to when things pop up - don’t pick apart any mistakes, but feel free to correct).  Now people can look and make their own guesses.

With love for Three 6 Mafia's classic sound at an all-time high in popular music, DJ Paul is delivering his new solo project with fresh energy, still embracing what made him one of the most sought after producers of all time. Power, Pleasure & Painful Things is some of his most personally fulfilling work to date, with appearances from Beanie Sigel, Yelawolf, WifisFuneral, Rob Vicious, and his real life nephews Seed of 6ix. The official visual for "Real Money" featuring Beanie Sigel premiered today, and fans can download or stream the project here: https://onerpm.lnk.to/PPPThings. In addition to the album, Paul is currently on the road with Insane Clown Posse, Rittz and more for Fury Fest. The 27-city tour began May 3 in Poughkeepsie, NY, and winds throughout the country to the final date June 9 in Chattanooga, TN. "It's an exciting feeling to have my album dropping while I'm on this tour," Paul expresses. "It's been a while since I've really been on the road for a length of time. I'm looking forward to sharing my new music and the classic hits, and connecting with the fans in person." Last week, DJ Paul had cause to celebrate as Drake took home a record 12 Billboard Music Awards, including Top Rap Album and Top Billboard 200 Album for his multi-platinum Scorpion project. DJ Paul produced "Talk Up" featuring Jay-Z, and made headlines for the collaboration upon the album's release. "I'm so happy to be a part of this award winning album," says Paul. "I've been producing with a lot of different people, but this one was special because Drake is one of the greatest living performers of all time, and I'm proud that he has roots in Memphis." DJ Paul will be recording his weekly #MafiaRadio show live during the tour, so stay tuned for some crazy guest appearances. Watch "Real Money" featuring Beanie Sigel

The Kinetic Sculpture Race will take place in Baltimore on Saturday, May 5. Tom Jones
For Mother's Day, you may want to get in the car, hop on a plane, or bike it across town to visit your mom, bring her flowers, and take her to brunch. But during the rest of month, consider enjoying the free festivals taking place in Seattle, Atlanta, Philadelphia, or Augusta.
Here’s a sampling of some of the free, cheap and cool attractions happening around the country in May.
Happy Birthday to the Godfather of Soul
On May 3, celebrate what would have been James Brown’s 85th birthday in his hometown of Augusta, Georgia. The Godfather of Soul is honored with an exhibit at the Augusta Museum of History (admission: $4) that is filled with photos, Brown’s stage costumes, and plenty of his personal memorabilia.
Augusta Convention & Visitors Bureau
Stroll around town and you’ll find a good dose of James Brown-themed public art, including a life-size bronze sculpture of the artist with a built-in camera that will take your selfie with the statue and then email you the photo.
Kentucky Derby Festival
On May 5, the 144th running of the Kentucky Derby at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky may last just a few minutes, but the Kentucky Derby Festival goes on for weeks with free concerts and dozens of community events. The Pegasus Parade, featuring marching bands, equestrian units, fanciful floats and inflatable character balloons, takes place May 3.
San Antonio's Tricentennial
San Antonio’s Tricentennial Commemorative Week runs May 1-6, with entertaining, artistic, and educational events celebrating the city’s historic roots and legacies.
Highlights include Founders Day on Thursday, May 3, which includes an evening event full of performances by local mariachis, folklorico and conjunto groups, and Arts for All Day on Friday, May 4, when many local museums will offer free admission and fireworks will cap off the day along the Mission Reach. On Military Appreciation Day (Sunday, May 6) Fort Sam Houston will open to the public for the first time since 9/11 with a free festival that includes performances, historic tours, demonstrations and a fireworks show.
Kinetic Sculpture Race in Baltimore
The American Visionary Art Museum in Baltimore, MD, hosts the 20th annual Kinetic Sculpture Race on Saturday, May 5. Line up anywhere along the 15-mile race course to watch wild and wacky human-powered contraptions compete on a course that makes its way over land and through mud and water and root for the teams that will win awards for everything from art and engineering to finishing next to last and smack dab in the middle.
Artisphere in Greenville
Greenville, South Carolina, will holds its 14th annual Artisphere festival May 11–13 with more than 250 artists and performers in attendance from around the world. During the free, three-day celebration, more than 100 artists will exhibit their work along a pop-up “Artist's Row” on Main Street while others will presents dozens of live music, theater, dance and art performances.
Sail Philadelphia Festival
When Memorial Day weekend rolls around Philadelphia plays host to a five-day Sail Philadelphia Festival that starts on Thursday, May 24 with the (free) parade of tall ships arriving and docking at Penn’s Landing. Public tours, sailing excursions and plenty of riverside activities will be offered during the Waterfront Festival that takes place over the holiday weekend. Festival admission tickets are $5 for kids/seniors/military and $7 for adults and include admission to the Independence Seaport Museum where adult admission is usually $17.
Folk Festival in Seattle
The Northwest Folk Life Festival will take place over Memorial Day weekend, May 25-28, throughout the former World’s Fair grounds that are now Seattle Center. Now in its 47th year, this free festival is a celebration of music and artistic traditions from around the world with more than 5,000 performers participating each year.
Free Jazz Fest in Atlanta
The month-long Atlanta Jazz Festival comes to a close with three stages full of free jazz concerts in Piedmont Park during Memorial Day weekend. See the festival jazz calendar for headliners and concert times.

Irvin, of Springboro, Ohio is the 2015 Jeremiah Healy Mystery Winner for her debut novel “The Dark End of the Rainbow”. Irvin was the featured writer, Friday, Jan. 14, of the first of four 2017 Author’s Nights, sponsored by the Friends of the Greenville Public Library (GPL). The events take place at Montage Cafe, in Greenville. The evening’s activities include live music from J.R. Price and Bill Westfall, and time with the author, including a question and answer session. Assistant Director of GPL and member of Friends of the Library Susi Halley, of Greenville, said the free events are usually a big success. The Friends sponsor the event with usually between 30-50 people attending, depending on the weather, she said. “It’s an opportunity to hear literature and poetry from local authors,” Halley said. “Usually the authors read from their books and we also talk about how they got started. It’s always fun, relaxed and very informal. The library purchases their books, for community check-out.” Irvin’s stories have appeared in both print and on-line journals and magazines, including Alfred Hitchcock Mystery Magazine and Spark. A career educator, Irvin retired in 2008, after teaching Spanish and English at Springboro High School, Centerville City Schools and Alter High School. Until recently, she taught Spanish at Wright State University, but upon her success as a published author, she is now a full-time writer. “Above all I love kids and the potential they represent,” Irvin said. “I would still be in the classroom if someone else graded my papers and attended meetings, so I have would time to write.” Irvin started writing when she was young. She wrote plays and made all of her siblings act in them and or attend them, she said. She also likes improvisation. “But you have to be funny, and I need to work on that,” Irvin said. While exploring her possibilities in writing, Irvin discovered how life gets in the way. A career, marriage and children kept her writing at a distance, but it never went away. Attending writers’ workshops, such as the Antioch Writer’s Workshop, helped hone her skills and sharpen her voice. “Through that process, I realized that my dream had not died,” she said. Irvin continued writing her way into a novel. She entered a free contest and won the “Jeremiah Healy Mystery Writing Award Competition”, through the Mystery Writers Key West Fest based on the first three pages of her novel, “The Dark End of the Rainbow”. That novel was published in 2015, by CreateSpace Independent Publishing Platform. Following this publication, “The Rules of the Game” was published in 2016, by Absolutely Amazing Ebooks. She continues writing more novels. Irvin’s top four suggestions for story readability are: mystery, suspense, surprise and romance. She explained for every author those factors may be different. “What makes a story readable for you?” she asked the audience. She thoroughly researches her characters and their cultures. Exploring character motivation requires great dedication and often help from local librarians, who Irvin describes as kind and calm. “For me to investigate why people do the things they do makes me read as widely as I can,” she said. “I try to understand. Do people sit around a table and say, ‘How about we rob a bank tomorrow?’ Do they do that? Is it something that just happens on the spur of the moment?” Her new novel is set in another country, requiring her to learn Turkish. “There is so much you can’t know,” she explained. “You do what you have to do to get it right, and hope the readers forgive you if you make a small error. “ She also spoke about her relationship with and development of her characters and staying open to possibilities. “They speak to you, in fact I’ve had them change their names,” she said. “I have been typing and somewhere in the third paragraph or the third page, the person is no longer ‘Perry’ he is now ‘Gary.’ Where did Gary come from? That’s who that character wants to be.” When an audience member asked if she started her novels with an outline, she said she knows the beginning and the ending. Again, she remains open to the process and the discovery. “I am not sure about all of the things that are going to happen,” she said. “When I was doing the draft of my new novel, when I wrote those pages, I said, ‘Oh my gosh! I don’t know how that happened and I hope the reader likes this as much as I do’.” Irvin explained that she has many more books to write, so when she is finished with a novel she is ready to let it go. “At some point, you have to let the arrows fly and hope that they soar in some way,” she said. The next Author’s Night featuring the Greenville Poets, is Friday, Feb. 17, 6 p.m. at Montage Cafe, 527 S. Broadway Street, Greenville.
