Rebuilt

AN:This takes place on my version of the Cronk and Harwick Railway, which you can read about here.

The visitors inspected Dennis, Thalia, Pearl, and Glynn thoroughly, measuring every piece and bolt. They talked with the crews and pointed to drawings.

"They're from the Glynn Valley Tramway Trust," Hazel explained as she polished Pearl's lamps. "They hope to build their own engine soon, and need blueprints to do so."

"They're the ones rebuilding our old line?" Glynn asked.

"Yes, they had hoped one of you would return to run the line, but..."

"This is our home now. We've been here longer than we were there." Dennis interjected.

"Exactly. Instead, they hope to have a new member of your class built."

Thalia frowned, "I can't imagine the engine will be happy alone. Even at the start Dennis and I had each other."

"Don't worry," Hazel laughed, "they'll have other engines before then. Even after inspecting you, it'll probably take months to finalize the design, and even longer to build. Besides, part of the agreement allowing them to inspect you was that your new sibling would regularly visit you.

"Why was I here then?" Pearl asked self-consciously, "I'm hardly a tram."

Hazel looked up at her, "But you're just as much a part of the GVT's history as they are. Alongside building a tram, they hope to find one of your siblings to restore. When they do they want them to look like you."

"How do you know so much?" Glynn asked. "I know you don't have time to be Gordon's firewoman, volunteer here, and be part of the trust."

Hazel snorted," I wish." She finished polishing the lamps and moved to the funnel, "I don't get to volunteer here as much as I'd like. My best friend is part of the trust."

"Is that how you knew how to be here today?"

Hazel flicked water at him with her rag, "Ask no questions and I'll tell no lies."

She did her best to ignore the engines chuckling at her expense.
