Too close to home - Tyler Owens Imagine
A/N: Alright babes, so here she is. Hope you guys like it. This is based off an actual tornado I experienced last year (Gotta love tornado alley).
Tumblr media
Spring. It was your favorite season and also your least favorite season at the same time. It was the time of year when they flowers started to bloom, it started to warm up, and everyone seemed happier. However, it was also the time of year when tornadoes were the most prevalent. Living in tornado alley meant you were well versed in the forces of nature. They were big. They were mean. They didn’t care what was in their way. Ever since you were a kid, they scared you. You knew the signs and you watched out for them when they came.
It was the dark clouds. It was the smell of rain in the air. It was the cool air and the warm breeze mixing together to bring a perfect mix of chaos. It absolutely terrified you; especially since you worked at a news station and saw what happened when you covered storm damage.
Now, your boyfriend, was a whole other story. You were dating the tornado wrangler himself, Tyler Owens, and the two of you could not be anymore different in your opinions on the monstrous forces of nature. He thought they were beautiful and wanted to chase after them. You thought they were horrible and wanted to stay far away. But, each and every spring you let him chase his passion as long as he promised to keep himself safe and always come back home. He promised and had yet to break it.
It was your two year anniversary and the two of you were cuddled up in bed watching a movie. There was a tornado warning in the area, but Tyler had been watching the tornado tracker on his phone and he felt like there was next to no chance that the ones on the ground would come anywhere near your shared home. Most nights, he would be out chasing the storm with his crew, but he had agreed to stay home with you tonight to spend time with you to celebrate your anniversary.
Your head was on his chest and his fingers were combing through your hair, both your eyes locked on the TV. Outside, the storm was starting to pick up. The thunder was starting to get louder and the rain was starting to pound on the window harder; hail starting to mix in with it. Your eyes widened at the sound, but Tyler didn’t seem to even blink twice, his hand moving down to soothe down your spine. Of course, leave it to the tornado chaser to not even blink at a severe storm. You wished you shared his bravery, but you definitely did not. As the storm started to progress he picked up his phone to check the weather and the tornado tracker, still seeing that there was nothing coming towards you guys and you were safe to not take shelter.
But, as you were sitting there you could start to hear a train in the distance sound like it was passing through and you felt confusion start to cloud your mind. You didn’t remember any train tracks near your house.. But, it definitely sounded like there was a freight train passing by. You looked at Tyler just as his phone rang, one of the guys he chased with calling him.
He pressed a kiss to your forehead and went to standup, answering the call. He pulled the blinds back and revealed a severely dark sky outside your window before he looked at you, eyes wide. The train was getting louder and louder. “Yeah. Ya’ll stay safe.” Just as he was going to hang up the phone, the entire house went dark as the power went out. In the dark and the silence of the house you could barely make him out walking swiftly towards you. He was normally calm about everything so the swift way he was moving made a sense of dread settle through your bones and into your stomach. You had never seen him like this and you had watched him race towards tornadoes hundreds of times by now without even seeming to be phased. But, whatever was happening right now had him rattled.
“We have to get to cover now.” That was all he said as he reached out for your hand, lacing your fingers together as he pulled you towards the back door of your shared home. You had never once heard him warn you to take shelter, so something really bad must be happening. The two of you made your way outside and everything was super dark. Rain was pelting down from the sky in massive drops as it mixed with hail. The wind was whipping around you and Tyler held your hand tight as the two of you made your way towards the door that was propped up outside of the ground. He started to open it, turning around to see a massive funnel cloud making its way right towards your house.
You felt your blood run cold as it started to descend down towards the ground and you heard him urging you to hurry, reaching out to grab your wrist. He was yelling something but you couldn’t hear him over the wind, you just could make out the sound of him yelling but the words were incomprehensible. You felt a tug on your wrist as he ushered you inside, standing to take in the beauty of the descending tornado as it tore down on your neighborhood quickly.
“Ty!” You yelled out for him as you made your way down the stairs, the chaos of everything making you feel more panicked than you already were. But, the look on his eyes said everything. The passion. The dedication. “She’s damn perfect.” You could tell he was either saying the words or mouthing them, but the wind was taking possession of his voice. You knew he was wishing he was chasing this storm. However, that would’ve meant you would be dealing with this alone. You had never been in a storm like this before and now you were about to be in the eye of a tornado.
He finally snapped out of his trance and made his way down into the cellar with you. He slammed the door shut behind him, locking it into place with the deadbolt as you turned on the flashlight on your phone.
Luckily when you had moved in you had stocked the storm shelter with some food and water and a bag of clothes for each of you if you guys would end up needing it. But, you hoped and prayed you wouldn’t. You turned on the lantern the two of you kept down there as you grabbed one of the few blankets you had down there and you tried to make yourself comfortable, hearing the wind howl outside through the door.
“C’mere.” The southern drawl was the first thing you heard your boyfriend say since the two of you had left the house. He had his arm out for you as he turned his phone on to the weather channel, pulling up the radar as the weatherman went on and on about the tornado that was now knocking on your front door.
Your heart was racing and you felt like you couldn’t breathe as you slid in close to his side, covering both of your laps with the blanket as you tried not to think about what could potentially be happening a couple of feet above you. Would it take the house? Would it take your trucks? The barn? You didn’t want to think about it and you hid your face in his arm as he slid a hand under your shirt, rubbing soft circles into your skin with his thumb. “Itll be alright, darlin’.” You knew it would be, but the anxiety was still running rampant through you as well as guilt for him staying home with you tonight.
“I’m sorry you’re here and not out there right now.” Your voice felt too quiet for the situation, but you let it stay like that. Ever since you had started dating, you had never made him miss a storm. You had always told him to go. Told him to just be safe and keep you updated. Every single time he did. But, tonight he had insisted and now it was eating at you.
You felt his eyes look down at you as he sat his phone down, now using his free hand to tilt your chin to look up at him. “I would rather be here with you. If I was chasing that storm, I would be trying to outrun it to get home to you,” He kept his eyes locked on yours as the words left his lips, the normally cocky smile he wore replaced by a small, genuine one. He started to stroke your cheek with his thumb, leaning down to capture your lips to seal the words in. “There will be other storms. But there’s only one you. I’m glad I was here to keep you safe.” The words were barely a whisper as he leaned his forehead against yours, a smile forming on your lips as you kissed him again.
There might be damage done by the storm and you would probably be cleaning up debris for a couple of months, if not longer. But, you had Tyler and he had you and both of you were safe. That was all that mattered as you cuddled up to him in the storm shelter and waited for the all clear, updates coming in from his guys as they chased the storm that came just a little too close to home this time.

Only For You
Thorn x female!reader
Tumblr media
Summary: Thorn hides a huge part of his life from you and he's constantly leaving for long periods of time. You're not sure you'll ever know all of his secrets, but you know you're tired of saying goodbye.
Notes/warnings: angsty/fluffy, but nothing else really. mistakes, I'm sure. I did my best.
Words: 1354
---
“Going where?” you ask, rubbing your hands up and down your arms to shield your bare skin from the cold. He shrugs out of his nylon, sorry-excuse-for-a-coat and wraps it around your shoulders, but it’s a useless effort. In a thin t-shirt, he’ll be frozen in no time and you’ll be left to trade the coat back and forth as he stands on your front porch in the winter’s stinging air.
His hands slide into his jeans front pockets. “I can’t tell you.”
“For how long?”
“I don’t know.”
With a huff, you ask, “What do you know, Thorn?”
He flinches. A hand comes out of his pocket to run over his buzzed hair. You can’t count how many times you’ve asked him these questions, and you kick yourself for bothering when the answers have not once strayed from their cookie-cutter precision. He never knows. Or he does and refuses to tell you. Wherever the truth lies, it doesn’t make its way to you. But the hurt in his mossy-green eyes is not for the secrets. It’s not for the disappearing act he forces you through. It’s reserved solely for the brand new weariness in your tone.
This is not what you do. Your pattern with him has been consistent from the beginning. A month after he first kissed you, three weeks after you first slept together, you received the same pieced-together speech: ‘I have to leave. I can’t tell you why. I don’t know for how long.’ And you provided the same response you always do; a response you weren’t aware at the time would be commonly leaving your mouth; a response he’s not once requested, but with every feature of his face, pleads for: ‘I’ll be here when you get back’. Then he smiles, as always, and kisses you, and you pull him into your bed only for him to be gone by the time you wake.
But you just broke the pattern with that tone of yours. It’s less welcoming, offering inadequate reassurance that when he knocks on your door in one or two or three months it’ll open.
Thorn swallows hard as he fidgets in place, and you feel tendrils of guilt spread throughout your system. Thorn doesn’t fidget. Fidgeting means nerves. Nerves mean anxiety. And anxiety is not a well-worn jacket on the man who weaseled his way into your heart. It doesn’t fit. That jacket isn’t made in his size and it feels no different than when a toddler is squeezed into an outfit their parents refuse to accept they’ve grown out of.
“What I know is that I want to come back to you,” he says. A beat passes and the cloud of nervous energy is shoved aside, likely a required skill for whatever the hell he does when he leaves you. He steps closer. Your heart beats harder. “I will walk up here and knock on this door and wait for you to let me in. Like I always do.”
Lips parting, you sink further into the scent of cologne that long ago seeped into the interior fibers of his coat. It’s an instinctual comfort while everything inside of your body fights your mind.
Fingers twitch to reach out and jerk him inside, but if you do that there’s no chance you’ll resist him; no chance you will even make it to your bed. With one foot through the door, he’ll have you against the wall or on the floor with the hallway runner serving as the only barrier between your back and the chill of the hardwood. With his tongue on your neck, you will forget how tired you are of his rollercoastering in and out of your life. His fingers digging into your flesh will crack your icy determination to no longer miss him until it’s a melted puddle beneath you. His cock deep inside of you will demand you let go of letting him go.
Well, it’ll demand you let go of considering letting him go. It’s not what you want. If you had your pick of clichéd happy endings, your wicked-smart, tattooed-up, former—you question—criminal would settle in with you. But, no matter how hard you try, you can’t form that image in your mind. Thorn with a ring on his finger, you with his baby growing in your belly, a house you can share—if that exists somewhere, you’re losing hope that it’s on your timeline.
“Thorn, how long is this going to last?”
“I told you, I don’t—”
“No,” you interrupt with a shake of your head. “Not just this time. All of it. When does it stop? When do you stay?”
His shoulders slump the slightest with his heavy sigh. “Sweetness, I made promises. I’ve got people relying on me.”
“And what about me? What am I supposed to do?” you ask, praying the struggle of holding back your tears has slipped under his radar despite that not being a possibility before. The only tears Thorn doesn’t catch are the ones he isn’t around to witness. “What if I left you all the time for reasons I refused to tell you about? You couldn’t find me, you couldn’t contact me, you didn’t know if I was safe, you wouldn’t be able to sleep wondering if I might be dea—”
“Stop!” he snaps, then quieter, repeats, “Stop.” His eyes fall from yours to the stone of your porch and enough seconds pass that there’s an awkwardness to the silence. “I would lose my mind if it was you, Ok?” he says, connecting to your stare. “I’d go fucking crazy.”
“And somehow you expect me not to.”
His hands move to cup your face, thumbs stroking back and forth over your cheekbones. “I don’t expect anything of you, sweetness. I can't, because it wouldn't be fair. But it doesn't change the truth that you don’t leave my thoughts. When I'm gone, every free second I have is spent thinking about coming home to you.”
Except coming home often means adding to your worries. There’s not one instance in the time you’ve known him that he has returned to you without bruises at every stage of healing scattered across his body. But you don’t speak of them. Neither do you speak of the split lip, cut eyebrow, sliced skin, and the worst of them: the hole in his arm that was shoddily stitched up, leaving a permanent reminder of the secret life he keeps from you.
Often, when he is asleep, you run your finger over the raised skin, simultaneously thankful that he made it back from such an ordeal and cursing that he left to begin with. Then, from the twisted mess those feelings cause in your head, you find that your pain at seeing him hurt always develops a branch of anger.
Despite all of the blows you know he takes, you're not quick enough to stop yourself from throwing one of your own. “Assuming you’ll be able to come home at all…right?”
His eyes widen before they squeeze shut. Sharp jawline sharpens more as teeth clench. Thorn takes a deep breath, then proves that his forehead resting against yours is all it takes for your anger to fizzle.
Wrapping your hands around his wrists, you finally allow the tears to spill. They pour with abandon, overwhelming you the way a tidal wave might overtake a small ship in its ocean.
“I know whatever you do is stupidly dangerous,” pushes through your sudden sobs and sniffles.
“That’s why I don’t tell you what it is,” he whispers as his nose nudges yours. “But I’m careful, sweetness. I’m careful because of you.”
Your lips freeze from the tears that reach them. The salty liquid under the chilled air bleeds away all moisture until his mouth claims a kiss. Not soft, not sweet, but beautifully burning. And from that burn, you find your calm. From familiarity, you find peace. From him, you find home.
When you separate, your breaths form a puff of heat that shoves away the cold. “I won’t let you down,” he promises. “And I’ll be back before you know it.”

Rowdy Romance
Masterlist | A Southern Jake Series Here
Jake "Hangman" Seresin x (Southern!F)Reader
Part 2
Tumblr media
Summary: You are visiting with a friend and find yourself alone in the Hard Deck. You're both what he was expecting and not.
Warnings: Cursing, flirting, mentions of shotgun, bull riding, and one hunting reference to killing and preparing a deer. Word count: 1,291
Tumblr media
The Hard Deck was full. The sun had dipped down below the water line. Your vacation had slowed down. Your friend had made plans with her husband. She was visiting while her husband was stateside.
He had been on deployment for the last year. You had come with her for moral support when you both would have to leave without him.
You found yourself at the beach during the day and spending your nights out sight seeing alone. You can't blame her for spending all her time with her husband.
The couple had just a few more months until he would be back home before being restationed. You weren't excited because she would be moving back out to wherever he was stationed, but at the same time you are excited for her.
You found yourself at the bar that all the locals raved about. Each store owner, that you had spoke to that day, all said that Friday nights were spent at the hard deck. You were at the bar sitting in one of the bar stools. A few locals, and khaki uniformed men had offered you a drink.
There was no interest. Daddy had always said "if he can't skin a deer then how is he gonna feed you when the government crumbles?" Old Southerners still remember the great depression and hold the doomsday prepping dear to their hearts.
You had noticed the sign and kept your phone off the bar. It laid in your back pocket of your dazzled jeans. They had rhinestones in the shape of bull heads. You had an old, tight wife beater top on that cropped a little above your belly button. You looked very out of place in San Diego. You caught a few eyes for that very reason.
The next pair to land on you leaned his arm against the wood beam. "You're from my neck of the woods. Miss, How'd you find yourself up here in California?" His drawl thick.
Your eyes caught sight of the mystery man looking up slowly. His khaki uniform definitely added a nice touch to the voice he carried. "I'm here for a friend of mine." You didn't go into too much detail.
"Well I'll have to thank your friend for sending an angel my way. Can I buy you a round as a welcome to California?" You smiled softly. "Jack on the rock." He smirked. "Your daddy must carry a shot gun wherever he goes for an order like that." He chuckled. "Yes sir, it's on the rack in his truck, or in his hands."
"Penny, can I get two jack on the rocks please?" She smiled. "Sure thing, hangman" your lips curl up. "Hangman... is that what your called round here" His classic smirk finds it's way toward you. "Yes ma'am. That's my call sign."
A small giggle erupts. "I'm not even gonna ask." His smirk still showing. "It's better that you dont." You break the touch barrier slapping his arm softly. "Honey don't say that. You'll make me want to know." Your Laughs strike between your words.
He grabs the two glasses from Penny. "Thank you, Miss Penny." You call out as she goes to the next customer. She smiles and waves as a you're welcome. "Come on, we're gonna go out by the beach." You follow him.
"I told you not to bet him dumbass." Pheonix chuckled at coyote. "Rooster had spent five minutes trying to serenade her, and the new guy tried buying her a drink too." Pheonix popped up. "Thanks for the piña coloda, FNG" pointing to the Fucking New Guy. Coyote continued. "She had walls up to the roof. There's no way he could have got her in 5 minutes flat."
Pheonix laughed resting her chin on her knuckles. "He just did." She scrunched her nose up. "He is an asshole but he is good at picking up women." She flicked a straw wrapper at Rooster chuckling at him. They all began playing pool, and the guys keeping a check on hangman judging his game, making bets on if you would end up going home with him by the end of the night.
Your eyes followed the shoreline, meeting up to the stars. Lights lined the edge of the patio. You stood at the rail leaning in to smell the saltwater, and hear the waves crashing. "Your Jack." He handed your drink to you. "So you know my name, what's yours?" You took a sip of your drink, and tell him your name. "But you can call me, Minnie. That's what they call me back home." You smile brightly.
"Where does that come from?" He leaned against the rail next to you. "Oh no no, if you want to know mine then you have to tell me yours, hangman." Eyebrow arched searching his eyes for a back story. He chuckled and flashed a genuine smile. "Well, I'm a pilot and we get call signs. They call me Hangman, but the 'a's are blank so you can fill them how you like. Thats how I got it." He looked down finishing the innuendo. You laugh wickedly.
"Hungman, How many California girls has that really worked on? How did you actually get that name?" His head shook, chuckling. "Okay, okay, my friends say I hang them out to dry in the sky. They are exaggerating, they're fine. I got their backs. What about you, Minnie?" He looks out to the ocean then back to your eyes.
"My family owns a farms in Texas. When I was about three, I walked around the farm in nothing but a diaper and Minnie hat. They called me 'Minnie', and it stuck." You giggled at the memories of the picture with chickens crowding around you with your Minnie hat on. "Texas? You around the Rusk area?" You nodded. "We're out in Lufkin."
"No way, my family has a pretty big cattle ranch out in Rusk. Small world." Your eyes widen. "The Seresin cattle ranch?" He almost spits out the sip he had just taken. "Umm," he chuckled through the next few words. "Yeah, that's it." He met your eyes again. "My family moved their farm to Lufkin about six years ago, we go to the rodeos and see your family there every year. I've been bucked off jóse a few times. We have had dinner over at their house. They mentioned they had a son in the navy. I'm guessing your Jake..." You trail your words.
"That's me." He chuckles, thinking about you riding on Jóse the bull. "Your momma is so proud of you. Your daddy is too." You smile thinking about how much his momma had to say about her baby jake. "She never got around to show me a picture, but she was very adamant that you are handsome and single." You took your stare back to the water to keep the burn of the cheeks down. "One of them is right.. " You trailed.
He placed a hand at the small of your back leaning against the rail with his other arm. Your bare skin tingling where his hand was. "Both of them are." He smirked while glancing down your curves. "I'm guessing these California girls ain't amounting to what you thought they'd be." He spoke slowly while playing with the hem of your shirt. "No ma'am, they are not." Your eyes met his, and you rounded into his arms and placed your hand on his shoulder.
He leaned up, allowing him to pull you closer to him, his arms wrapped around you. Your southern drawl thickened. "Well, I guess you better find yourself a cowgirl." Your Eyebrow raised, and a smirk crossed your lips. "I think I found one."

The Gallows (Hangman x Fem!reader)
Tumblr media
Summary: They call you Angel, sometimes you wonder if “of death” was too long. When tasked to join the best of the best, you are forced to confront your past.
Warning’s: descriptions of injuries (reader is a medic), mentions of sexual content, semi-steamy?,cursing, mentions of sibling death, ptsd (the reader and Hangman both have shared trauma), alcohol consumption
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
“Call sign: Angel”
It sounded like a nails of a cat clinging to a chalkboard, slowly, painstakingly trailing down the black slate, dragging each syllable out like a taunt. An-gel.
The office felt stuffy, like one of those old silver-screen detective films your grandma would make you watch whenever you visited for Christmas, though there was nothing comforting or warm about it.
Vice Admiral Beau "Cyclone" Simpson is across from you, flipping through your entire naval career in a package of papers. “Quite an impressive portfolio you have here.”
“Admiral Kazansky vouched quite heavily for you. I don’t know if that should delight or terrify me.” he sighs, scanning through the pages without so much as looking up at you. “You’ll be working under the command of Captain Pete “Maverick” Mitchell, I’m sure you’ve heard about him.”
Slapping the folder down, Cyclone rises from his seat with the the sound of leather creasing and wheels rolling against the linoleum. “Follow me. I’ll take you to the debriefing room, maybe you’ll be good at keeping Maverick...grounded.”
Orientation never sat well with you. You stopped bothering to focus your vision on the pilots and WSO’s before you; To take in their faces or remember their names. It became a bad habit that morphed into second nature, instinctual to the very structure of your DNA. It was easier that way.
There was an eeriness to the echo of Maverick’s voice as it reverberated throughout the aircraft hangar, his eyes flickering to you for a moment.
“This mission will be physically demanding on your bodies and minds. That is why we have brought in Lt. y/n “Angel” y/l/n.  One of the best flight surgeons the navy has to offer.” It’s all so formal that it feels forced. Undeserved. Unwarranted.
The walk from the entrance of the hangar, to where Captain Mitchell stood was gruelling. You pictured yourself being ushered to the gallows, or maybe a pyre like a witch, either way, both of those situations seemed more appealing than this.
“Thank you.” you saluted back - It was muscle memory at this point, not respect. “It an honour to work with you Capt. Mitchell.”
“We’re down three of our best today to G-tolerance training. Don’t worry, you’ll get well acquainted soon enough.” he grins, looking your way for a moment. He could practically feel the tension radiating off your body in a cold heat.
Orientation went by in a haze, you hadn’t paid much attention to the formalities and empty social interactions, not when everything in the very fabric of your being told you “No, you aren’t ready. Run. Run. Run.”
“Phoenix.” a firm, but eager hand reaches out to you, breaking your daze like a slap to the face. Your palm meets her’s and you think maybe, just maybe, you can do this. Maybe you can try.
Before you are even aware you’ve spoken, you agree to meet at the Hard Deck for drinks. Then you remember you haven’t touched booze since you got so drunk they had to pump your stomach. Then you remember why you had gotten so drunk in the first place. Then you kind of want to scream, and you kind of want to cry.
But you don’t. You never do.
~~~~~~~~
A stale breeze ocelots throughout the room as you lay in the dark, alone in a loose tee and your underwear. Giving a grunt, you roll onto your back and run a finger across the creases of your sheets, that imprinted into the flesh of your cheek, pondering how you might muster the strength to get up and dress for the bar tonight.
You move in thoughtless motion, tugging on the loose blue jeans that are too hot for California, and a white tee you’d probably stain at some point throughout the night. You take your time on the ride over, even the twinkling lights of gazebos and restaurant patio’s seem so bleak.
With a quick movement, you switch off the radio and settle for the sound of tires grinding against asphalt. Music wasn’t enjoyable anymore, not like it used to be, not when you were sixteen in your brothers jeep, cruising around with his best friend and it’s all so easy.
Your eyes felt painfully heavy, you almost feel stupid for getting behind the wheel. You want to give in and close your eyes, to just float and forget.
~~~~~~~~~
“There you are, fuck! We were about to send out a search party,” Phoenix laughs as she slides of the barstool with a rum and Coke in hand. It’s all so exhausting. Socializing, growing close - friends even, and then the inevitable doom of being disappointed.
“Hey.” You smile softly, suddenly feeling so small. The gazes of your new crew consumed you and you hold your breath. “Thank you for inviting me out, it’s nice to…”you wonder where exactly you were going with that sentence, then settle on sounding like a moron. “…get out.”
“No, thank you for being the one to lug one of our sorry asses out of the sea one of these days.” Laughs another, your eyes shift toward the name badge. Payback. “My bets on “ol Fanboy here.”
“You realize if she’s pulling my ass out of the water, you aren’t far behind.” Fanboy counters, elbowing his pilot in the ribs. “Right?”
“Hey Rooster!” Phoenix shouts over the loud chatter of the bar. “Come say hi to our new doc!”
You’d forgotten how ingrained peoples callsigns were into their identity. Land, sky, or sea, their callsign was more valuable then their real name.  It hadn’t been quite as intense when you were working in the hospital, but they did exist.
“Hu-heyyy,” he drawls out, a little drunk already no doubt. You couldn’t help but smile when you saw him. It were as if the literal sun had been captured in his body, its light threatening to rip through the seams of his tacky Hawaiian shirt. “Nice to meet ya!”
He looked for your name tag, only to realize you had been the only one not in uniform. Civvies was a strict rule you had made for yourself, no matter how tired you were, you never wore your uniform off the base. Plain and simple.
You tell him your name, but he waits for the name that really counts. You clear your throat as you brace yourself with the back of a chair. “They call me Angel.”
“We gotta hear how you got that name.” Payback presses before taking a swig of beer. “I bet it’s one hell of a story.”
The politics of a call sign was just another example of military machismo. It made sense logically, why they were necessary but you had heard your fair share of awful ones to take them too seriously - T-bag, Tiny (last name Richard’s) and Hot crotch to name a few.
Truth is, Angel had been misogyny, thinly veiled as a joke. It’s such a clear memory, you remember it better than your cousin’s wedding that was only a few months ago. The men of the element you’d been assigned didn’t think of you as an equal, but a young, naive girl.
A pet name. A patronizing pet name, the very same ones women had become accustomed to since the dawn of time. When you were quiet, wide eyed and new, you were “princess”, “baby face”, “darling”, “sweet cheeks”, when you stood up for yourself, or commanded the way the others had, suddenly you were “woman”, “bitch” or reduced to just simply “female”.
Lieutenant James “Big Bird” Larson was the worst of them; his taunt’s never took a day off - you weren’t sure if he was capable of ever shutting the fuck up. It wasn’t until shrapnel blasted through his throat, slitting his carotid artery that he was quiet. The blood had spurted like an Italian fountain, the kind you would find in the romantic stretch of Venice that was riddled with wishes in the shape of coins. You had pinched the vein and listened to his gurgled prayers before his wound could be stabilized by back up medics on route.
They still called you Angel, but at least now they had a reason. At least it felt earned.
The comment lingers in the air, you avoid the bait like the plague before gladly taking the hard seltzer Phoenix handed your way. The burn made you cringe as it slithered down your throat like salt in a wound. The last time you’d drank alcohol also happened to be the first and last time you got wasted beyond comprehension.
“Well?” Urges fanboy - damn, so close - with a sigh you give in.
“This guy was bleeding out, so I was pinching off the gash. If I let go he would’ve died…so he said I was his guardian angel.” You over simplified as per usual. “Just medical shenanigans.”
“Dope shit right there.” Fanboy beamed, grateful it wasn’t ironic or an omen that your platoons didn’t have a high rate of survival.
Meandering chatter continued amongst your new comrades, your eyes flickering to the door here and there just to confirm you still had an exit. It felt…insincere. Somehow, you were doing them a disservice by pretending to be present.
You wanted to care about the light hearted jokes, the pool games, the songs they sung at the top of their lungs, but it felt physically impossible. So, alone you sat at the table, more focused on the tiny bubbles of your drink that float periodically to the surface, than joining their game of pool.
“Hangman! Coyote! Get over here so we can kick your ass at pool.” one of them shouts, it didn’t matter who had yelled the name, it mattered who answered the call.
“In your dreams, Rooster.” his voice is the same as you remember, still dripping with cockiness and oozing with cool. Your fingers curl around the cool glass in your hands, pressing your fingertips into it so hard your nails could have snapped clean off.
Water blasts through the windows with a shriek of breaking glass, flooding the bar, uprooting chairs and tables, carrying bottles and bodies. It’s cold and all consuming, and you’re back. Most times it came to you whilst you slept, vulnerable and defenceless, that’s when those memories invaded your mind and possessed your body.
The water is red, a frighteningly, bright red, and it leaves the taste of pennies on your tongue. The body floats. You fought the water with every muscle in your body, and your throat burns as a mixture of salt water and blood sting your lungs. You nearly have him in your arms but it’s just so hard, you almost have him, his parachute ghosting at your finger tips as you reach, desperately trying to cling to him.
“No” It’s horrible the way it comes out, like a strangle in the back of your throat. “Please, no, please!”  And suddenly you’re praying, and wondering if God exists at all in the same breath.
“Angel, you good?” Phoenix asks, resting her chin on the que, concern washes over her face.
Hangman’s attention shifts from the pool game onto Phoenix for a moment, following her gaze he settled on you. A look of confusion falls into a soft, sullen look.
“No.” you squeak out, your head shaking ever so slightly. He doesn’t move, he doesn’t dare move until you do. Digging your heels into the varnished wood floor, your chair  screeches as you get to your feet. It’s more of a whisper this time, but it slips out again. “No.”
Jake Seresin had run through your life like a tornado through a small town, and you’d spend far too long digging through the debris and picking through the pieces that broke apart in the chaos , to put yourself through that again. You slap a five, or maybe it was a ten, you couldn’t be sure or really give a damn, down on the table. It’s a sickly feeling that creeps up from the pit of your stomach and radiated throughout yours nerves, seizing your spine and rendering you fingers numb.
“Sorry.” You choke, a lump forming in the back of your throat. “Sorry I just have a headache, erm, I guess I forgot to eat today.” You realize in that moment how terrible of a liar you are. Fibs never came easily to you, it was something you wished you worked on, like a fine skill you could hone when necessary.
Gently Bob taps the cup to your arm, now convinced you are famished beyond compare. You yield, taking a few peanuts in your hand.
“Thanks.” You don’t even like peanuts, but you force them into your mouth and chew, and chew and chew until it’s mush. Make them believe you take care of yourself, you remind yourself. “Hey tonight was really fun-” you begin, realistically you’d spent all of what you rounded up to as ten minutes at the Hard Deck. “But I’m not feeling so good, so I think I’ll just head home.”
“Yeah, no, no of course.” She knows it’s a lie, but she smiles anyways.
The second you slip out the back door you gasp for air, taking in as much as physically possible. It almost hurts how far you push your lungs. You brace yourself on the patio ledge, thankful for the privacy of such a pathetic moment. Your head pounded like you’d just been on a three day bender despite having but a lick of alcohol. The bile rises faster then you can even realize what’s happening. Emptying out what little you have, you stifle a sob and heave and heave and heave.
Upside down, the world felt simpler somehow. Perhaps it was due to the fact you couldn’t physically think for a moment, but you weren’t going to waste a moment of peace going over the logistics.
The blood rushes back to your brain as you straighten up. Like divine intervention, your vision clears suddenly, and you set your sights on an unopened bottle of water. Had it not been screwed on so tight, you wouldn’t have trusted no one had put their lips to it. There were worse things, you thought, there were definitely worse things. Taking the warm water in your mouth, you swish it about and pretend it’s not the flavour of melted plastic in the California sun.
Your face buries into the palms of your hands as you lean your elbows on the rail, the sound of waves crashing  did well to ease some of your nerves that had been drawn taught.
~~~~~~~~~
Scrambling for your keys as you round the Hard Deck, you freeze just before the drop of the curb. He’s taller then you remember, but perhaps you’ve just forced him out of your mind so often, you simply forgot what he really looked like in person. Even the way he leans against your car is self righteous. It’s your beloved army green jeep, but Jake Seresin could have convinced you it belonged to him had he spoke it into existence.
“You’ve grown up. Christ it’s been forever hasn’t it?” The cool and collected nature of his tone had all but shrivelled and died, what was left was something you couldn’t quite decipher. “I thought our reunion would be a bit more explosive.”
“When have I ever been explosive?” You asked, patting around your jeans for your damn car keys.
“I can think of a few times.” He smirks, but it falls when he see’s how frantic you are to find a means of escape. “Really, are you that desperate to avoid me?”
You ignore him, patting at the denim of your pockets over and over as though the keys might magically appear.
“Look at me, please.” Jake pleads, but you don’t.
It isn’t until you hear the sound of metal meeting metal that your eyes snap up to catch his gaze for the first time in two years, dangling the key ring in front of himself. Coaxing you to step closer like he were holding a string of yarn out to a kitten.
“You left them on the table inside.” He answered before you could even think to ask.
“Oh.”
Twirling the key ring around his finger, he quickly retracts them into his palm. You couldn’t recall ever putting them down. “Can we at least talk?”
“I’d rather not.” It’s empty. You’re empty. It physically pained him not to reach out, to touch and comfort you. He thinks of the Claremont Motel.
Jake’s jaw sets in a hard line, grinding his teeth ever so slightly. “You can’t avoid me forever. I’m inevitable.” His words struck you like a freight train, knocking the wind from your lungs.
“Why? What more is there to say?” You ask, the moon catching in the teary glow of your eyes. You leaned against the hood of your car, stabilizing yourself as the world spun and your stomach flipped.
“It doesn’t even have to about that. I just wan’t to talk. I literally would settle for a discussion about the goddamn weather…how’ve you been?”
“I’m fine.”
“God you’re such a shitty liar.” he conjures a low laugh, with a grin that stirred something you didn’t want to acknowledge.
“Fine, I’m not fine.” You shakily concede. The last time you’d been fine was a time you weren’t sure even existed. “Jake, I-I don’t know what you want from me? If you want to talk, there’s really nothing else to say.” Something clicks in your mind, like a puzzle piece you had spent ages trying to place in it’s spot, sliding into the curves and aligning the edges. “Nothing that couldn’t have been said two years ago.”
Jake had knocked the wind out of himself before, at least three times if he were to count, but this was nothing any physical push could cause. This was a wind he’d held onto in the chambers of his lungs for so long, never thinking it would be stirred again.
“I just want to talk. Please, can we just talk.” His walls are reinforcing, stubborn determination trickling through his demeanour. “Christ, I’ll settle for a chat about the weather…I just miss you.”
“No.” Your teeth grit together, ready to spit, throttle and scream at him. But you breathe out, it’s slow and focused. “The weather is lovely, with zero humidity and a light breeze, and you, Jake Seresin, do not miss me.”
“You don’t know that.”
“Trust me,  I’ve spent a long time coming to terms with the ugly truth that you don’t.” It visceral, it’s somewhere between depressed and furious, but it’s so calm that it confuses him.
Waiting, and waiting and waiting, so much time waiting on Jake.
You would have been happy with an e-mail, a voice mail or just any trace of proof that you weren’t just a vessel for his guilt for one night. You hated how badly you wanted him to want you - but you put that dream to rest.
Dreams were silly, and you’d grown far too familiar with nightmares to really mourn the loss.
~~~~~~~~~
Drunk off boxed wine you picked up at a overpriced market on the way home, you sat on the floor of your bedroom, sinking into the lush, fluffy white rug you’d spent way too much money on. The pale blue glow of the television offering the only light you would allow. Anything could of been flashing across the screen, you would have been none the wiser.
There’s a small part of you, it’s minuscule, but you find yourself praying to hear a knock at the door. To have someone hold you and let you sob. Your eyes close and you find yourself pretending the muffled voice on the tv are a crowded room, and you aren’t so incredibly alone.
~~~~~~~~~
Hangman fucked up. Badly.
It was such a small interaction but it stuck to him like glue. The smile your way, the the meeting of gazes, the air of hope that maybe, just maybe, you would give him an inch, but you resisted by a mile. To make matters worse, you’d been so excruciatingly warm to Fanboy. The pressure of G-force had royally wrecked his neck, and Jake could not tear his eyes away, watching as you pressed and prodded the tender flesh at the nape of his neck, feeling for displacement or injury that was worse for wear - you were practically jacking him off.
You even laughed at something he said. What the actual fuck?
It played over and over like a scratched disk, repeating and repeating, anxiety building in his chest. It was a stupid mistake, it was such a colossal rookie mistake. Nearly clipping Phoenix’s wing, Hangman lost control for a moment after getting caught in the  jet wash, descending into a terrifying flat spin. White noise fills his ears, the radio fell on deaf ears, someone was hollering his callsign frantically - Rooster maybe? No, no maybe it was Coyote, or Payback?
“Hangman pull the fuck up!” Alphabet’s voice jolts him back into a plane of existence neither here nor there, that for a moment he’s alive, and Hangman’s flying a two seater. “Pull-up!”
And he does. Just hardly recovering from the death spin.
The debrief that followed was tense, uncomfortable and could have been avoided had he just focused.
Had he not gotten Alphabet killed.
 Finally dismissed, his fellow TOPGUNS stretched and yawned as they rose from their seats,  meandering toward the exit but lingering about the room as they slipped into conversation. A chorus of  “I need a drink after that” and “Let’s get wasted” filtering out of their mouths.
It wasn’t often Hangman was criticized or his technique critiqued, more often than not because he didn’t screw up, but led by example. He couldn’t make anymore mistake from here on out, he refused to, but that started with you.
“You’re going to get me killed.” He sings, striding toward you with . there’s hint of anger interlaced with the smoothness of his voice. “But I guess you wouldn’t hate that, would you?”
You quirk a brow his way, hands deep in your medic bag. It’s so ridiculous you almost don’t acknowledge it. “Sorry?”
“This whole cold shoulder shit? It’s getting in my head. We need to talk this shit out, right now” It’s just above a whisper, not wanting the others who lingered around to hear.
“You can’t be serious.” You sigh, zipping up the bag without so much as meeting his eyes.
“Look, I get it. You hate me. I’m a horrible person. But we need to leave that shit outside of the base, it’s affecting my work.”
“You are the one that keeps bringing it up. Just stick to your own shit and I’ll stick to mine.” your throw your hands up in bewilderment - It sounds simple in theory but it was far more complicated than that. “I’ve literally not said a word to you today.”
“That’s what I’m fucking talking about!” It’s louder than he’d hoped. Rooster’s attention now drawn to the two of you. Phoenix and Fanboy take notice soon after. Bob had noticed long before the others, but dare not get in the middle.
“You good over there?” Rooster asked as he stepped away from the group.
“It’s nothing.” Hangman snaps, looking over his shoulder with a venomous look in his eyes.
“Look, if we’re going to be working together, we need to at least try to-to come to an understanding” he offers, the sound of his voice reverberating throughout the room as he focuses back on you.
“Jake-“ you start, but he’s still going, wound up like a toy car that’s only started his race.
“I mean, with all due respect, I just want to be able to do my job and not be distracted.” He continues, your knuckles pale at your sides as they ball up the material of your uniforms.
“Jake.” You make another attempt, but it’s futile.
“But I can’t, because you’re acting like a child.” Now he’s really getting riled up, but you were no stranger to that. “You’re being selfish, you realize that don’t you? How long can you hate me for?”
“Hangman!” You bark it out like an order, and it takes him by surprise. You don’t give him a chance to overpower the conversation. “I don’t hate you.”
The truth punches him in the throat, you swear his face softens from the hardness he usually carries.
“I never did,  but it’s so hard being near you. When I look at you, I see him dead. I hear him every day. I hear his screams. I hear the static of his com being crushed. I look at you and it all comes back.” The words break apart with a sob, you pout your lips with a twist - a feeble attempt to not cry. “When I look at you it makes me physically fucking sick.”
“Woah, woah guys, chill out!”  Phoenix advances on the situation, ready to pull you out. “It’s been a long day, let's just cool off.” Phoenix tries but you dodge her touch, swerving around her attempt to peace keep.
“Hurting him wasn’t enough, was it?” you hiss - it’s cruel and you know it is. Protecting his conscience was no longer a concern.
~~~~~~~~~
The hot steam of the shower seemed to soothe the tension you’d developed in your muscles after your little run in with Jake, but the thought of him grazing near death today set your stomach in painful knots you were struggling to ignore. The cool tile brought relief to the headache you’d developed as you couldn’t stop reliving the horrible, stupid, awful fight in your head. The rhythmic thud-like heart beat in your temples was growing louder by the second.
Thud.Thud.Thud.
Pushing off the shower wall, you feel around for the tap, carefully listening as you weren’t sure if you were going crazy - sure it felt like a percussion was sounding off in your skull, but that was not just a headache.
Grabbing a towel, you quickly wrap around your check and tuck it into itself, securing it atop your breasts as you stumble out of the shower. Sliding your feet into the dry, cotton slippers you wore about the house post shower, and crept out of your bathroom.
Your heart raced, keeping with the frantic pace of the knocking. “Hold on!” You holler, discreetly tip toeing around furniture so you didn’t alert whoever was waiting outside the door of your proximity - a skill you mastered from the countless times your neighbours tried to invite you over for wine.
 Peeking through the peep hole, you freeze.
“Jake?” You ask, the distorted fishbowl view of him was almost humorous. You unbolt the chain, and slide it across before turning the main lock. Just a crack, you open the door and peer out.  “Sorry I didn’t hear you over the shower…”
“Can I come in…and talk?” God, he really wanted to do that huh?
“I’m not really dressed.” You almost laugh, but he’s so serious that you can’t bring yourself to.
“Don’t worry, nothing I haven’t seen.” He purses his lips matter-o-factly to the side. He’s looking at you, waiting for permission, and against all better judgment you let him in.
“You-how do you know where I live?” It’s squeaky, not at all how you wanted to convey the question.
“The jeep.” It’s not original to own a four door jeep in army green, not in a town that is etched into a naval base. But you know how he knows. It’s the same way dog tags all feel the same, but if you blindly felt through a pile of silver names, you could pick his out every time. You’re brother had that effect on people. His soul stashed away into little pieces of a life left behind.
You linger in the entrance of your small apartment for a moment, not quite sure what to say or do. Protectively fingers clutch the tucked knot of towel, and you feel his eyes stealing glances.
The last and only time you’d been so naked in front of him was the night of the funeral. Both on grievance leave for the next three days, you decided to stay in a motel. You couldn’t handle being at home, not without your brother. It was so empty. The absence of his hollering laugh, or the sound of old sixties rock and roll blasting from his speakers as he’d roll up in his jeep - just coming home as you were waking up. It would kill you if you’d spent another second in that painfully quiet house. You were sure of it.
Your feet ached as you walked around the town you grew up in, leaning into Jake, passing back and forth a bottle of whiskey in a brown paper bag, searching for memories of your brother in the streets, and the stop signs he drove through, or in the tree’s he climbed when he was twelve and you were just nine, worrying yourself sick he’d fall and crack his skull. In truth you both drank that night, but not enough to get wasted, just enough to ease the sharpness that made a home for itself in your chest.
For weeks you’d thought about how he reclined you on the hotel mattress, lips on yours, a salty taste on your tongue as quiet tears slipped from his eyes and mixed with your own. His loose tie dangling down and sending shivers across your skin as it brushed your neck. For months you could feel the ghost of his touch climbing up your pantyhose clad thigh, slipping beneath the black skirt of your dress, slipping into you.
You’d spent so long believing he hadn’t given the night at the Claremont much thought, just another drunken escapade for the books, but Jake still felt the imprint of your heel that hooked around his leg when he kissed you against the motel room door; the husky moans that sung at the back of your throat as you ravaged each other in kisses. He closed his eyes more often then not, and tried to relive that moment, to memorize every detail and sensation, to chase that high for as long as possible. He thought about it when he climbed altitudes, he thought the higher he went the closer he’d get to that feeling again - not once, not even close. Not by a long shot.
You could hear the whispers of sweet nothings still humming in your ears when you tried to focus, when you tried to drown out the aching feeling that you couldn’t shake. You think of that dingy hotel room, lit by nothing but the milky glaze of moonlight and the “Vacancy” sign flickering in seedy neon reds. The feeling of his lips on your jaw, down your neck, peppering  across your breast, lower and lower, here and there and there.
“Why did you make me go through it alone?” it’s courage mixed with fear and it leaks through the cracks of your voice, like downpour on an old roof.
It’s so vivid in your mind; the morning haze bleeding through motel curtains, seeping onto your bare skin. The nervous excitement that settled in, as flashes of the night came crawling back into your consciousness like a hangover. It’s the devastation of his clothes not strewn about the room, entangles with yours, and the absence of a text - god, you hadn’t been worth a ten second text - and the absence that follows for months, dragged onto two years.
“Because I’m a coward.” It’s the most honest thing he’s ever said. The facade of top gun, machismo, ladies man surrendered, leaving behind the man who stood before you. It was almost voyeuristic, like a sight unseen - a sight you weren’t supposed to see, and yet there you were, baring witness. “I was scared. I couldn’t face you sober. If I stayed I thought you’d realize you hated me.”
 His gaze is distant, like he doesn’t want to be there. He can’t be there. A raw pain simmering in the blue of his iris, he couldn’t face you then or and he couldn’t face you now
“I was such a fucking idiot back then.” He sighs, pulling his bottom lip between his teeth. Slowly he nodded, settling on the statement. “I was being stupid and reckless, all for a stupid mission I didn’t even end up going on in the end.”
Rivalry was nurtured by the military, encouraged by old men who hadn’t put their lives on the line in decades. They made you feel like you had to be the best, it was terrifying to think you weren’t. It was unbearable how hard the pressure to be the top of the class became, but when Hangman was running out of chances, Alphabet was there to spare another life.
He had been warned they were too high, that the others weren’t on their asses anymore, but it was too late. Higher and higher he made them fly, he wouldn’t be shot down - he wouldn’t allow himself to lose. Jake had surrendered to G-LOC, they both had.
While Jake came to, and ejected when it counted, it was too late for Zach, the timing was all wrong. Tangled in his parachute, slammed against the cliff sides, shattering bone on bone - it was all too gory to even imagine. He knew you didn’t have to though, and that’s what killed him.
“Honestly, I wish it was me.” He stifles a sob, pinching the bridge of his nose as he drops his head.
“I’m sorry.” You whisper, it’s all so caring and sweet and he doesn’t deserve it. He knows it. “What I said before, about hurting him…it wasn’t fair.”
“I wish I could go back.”
“We can’t, Jake. We can’t. I think it’s time we stop trying to.” you reach for his hand, still clutching the towel with your other.
He finds himself pressing a kiss to the flesh of your knuckles, it’s hesitant, careful. You pull free before grabbing fabric of his shirt and putting all your faith in the towel, pulling him into you. Pull. Pull. Pull.
You’d spend so much time pushing, you couldn’t stand to waste another second of not being in his orbit. Your lips find his, and a cross between a moan and whine murmurs against your mouth vibrates. It’s messy at first, his reaction time off but he quickly comes to, a firm hand finds your waist and he walks you back.
For so long you wanted to be numb, to rid yourself of feeling. Whether you’d achieved it through booze, or an edible here or there, as long as it let you forget, as long as it could lull you to sleep in the sanctity of your bedroom, that’s all that counted.
But now you wanted to feel everything. The sting of his teeth biting at your lip, the light tug at your hair, the taste of his tongue that had the lingering flavour of his favourite strawberry sports drink - everything, all at once. The strength of his grip dug into your waist, too afraid he’d lose you if he didn’t anchor you in place, he could’ve cried.
“Promise me.” You murmur between breaths, his mouth finding your neck.
“Anything.” He breaks away, cupping your face in the palm of his hand.
“Promise me that you want me.” You almost weep, it’s such a terrifying thought. “That you want me, not just need me right now.”
“I want you,” he breathes, dragging the pads of his thumb along your cheeks as you clutch his wrists. “I want you so much that I can’t breathe.”
For the first time, in a long time, you could look at the man who made you feel this life altering fight or flight, and felt safe.
 As dawns kiss painted you in it’s pale golden light, wrapped and entangled sound Jake’s legs, he allowed himself a sliver of forgiveness. Your touch was healing, even in slumber, even when you didn’t try.
There wasn’t a chance in hell that Jake “Hangman” Seresin was running away, not from this, not from you.
Just Another Thing – [3]
WALT ‘FINN’ FINNEGAN X READER/OC
Tumblr media
Summary: God help anyone who might’ve thought a nice, stable relationship might bring some kind of change to Walt Finnegan’s usual mischief and mild-hedonism. God especially help them if they also thought a girlfriend would provide any sort of calming influence over him.
She definitely influenced him, anyone could tell you that, unfortunately just never in any way that could even remotely be described as ‘calm’.
Warnings: cussing, flirting, illusions to sexxxxx. reader/OC is named Kimberly/Kimber, but it is still written in second person and her name shouldn’t come up very often.
Tumblr media
“You know, I’m pretty sure this counts as cheating at our little game,” Finn says in a sing-song voice when he jogs up to the fencing around the baseball pitch between innings. It was a balmy Saturday afternoon and at some point between this inning and the last, you’d shown up at the front of the stands beside Beverly. You stand to meet him, and he whistles slowly upon seeing the baseball jersey you have tied into a cropped top. He figures it must be one of Beverly’s.
“How do you know this isn’t serendipity at work?” you ask back, leaning right up against the fencing. Finn lifts an eyebrow but smiles. “Besides, I knew where you’d be today, I’m free tonight. I wanted to see you again,” you state matter of factly, yet still somehow very sexily. Finn pulls off his cap and holds it over his chest.
“You’re making me blush!” He teases back, before nodding in the direction of where Beverly is standing talking to Jake, feeding him little slices of oranges she has in a cup through the fencing. “I hope Bevie hasn’t told you anything bad about me,” he says.
You glance over and scrunch your nose adorably at the sickenly sweet affection between your friend and her boyfriend.
“Not anything I didn’t already know, besides, it’d only be hypocrisy,” you reply with a small shrug. Finn replaces his hat and takes up a lean against the otherside of the fence.
“How so?” he asks with a smirk. You cock your head and match his grin with your own.
“She’s friends with me, isn’t she?”
Finn stays beaming at you, leaning in even closer so your faces are barely separated by the wire between you.
“We’re all going to the Sound Machine tonight,” he tells you, eyes flickering between your eyes and lips. Your face lights up, and he feels a sudden sense of pride that he’s caused it to do so.
“I’ll be there,” you say instantly, just as one of his teammates calls out to him, the next inning about to start. Finn glances back then turns to you once again as he pushes away from the fence.
“And one more thing honey,” he calls, walking backwards back to the dugout. “Let me know the next time you plan on coming and watching me, I’ll make sure you’ve got the right shirt on!” he grins widely, and points to the number on his back just as he turns.
Tumblr media
You walk arm and arm with Beverly through the club’s front doors, greeting Harry the doorman as he waves you both through. By now you were well known to the staff at Sound Machine, you and Harry had even had a short fling once, so your cover and drinks were always free of charge. You don’t expect that to be an issue tonight though, not when you had already planned on meeting Finn here.
Beverly quickly leads you around the dance floor and to a set of tall tables already crowded with rowdy baseball players, and the two of you are immediately welcomed as you siddle up. You barely get a chance to untuck yourself from your friend and make your way around to where Finn is sat oogling you before someone else leans over into your space.
“Well, well, well Beverly, who is your friend here?” a man you recognise as the one who threw the baseball that hit you, Roper, says. He doesnt even look at Beverly when he speaks though, his gaze trained solely on you.
“Kimberley,” you introduce yourself, holding out your hand, only a little skeezed out when instead of shaking it, he lifts it to his lips and kisses it.
“Charmed,” he says, looking you deep in the eye. You glance in Finn’s direction to find him glaring at Roper, but before you can tell him to buzz off, another hand is struck out towards you.
“I’m Dale,” the new man says, pushing in to bump Roper aside, and for politeness sake, these were Finn’s friends afterall, you take his hand, relieved when he only shakes it.
“It’s so nice to meet you both,” you tell them, rolling your eyes a little when they both immediately begin flirting heavy-handedly, complimenting your outfit and your hair, and asking about what you do at school. Eyeing Finn again, you see him throwing mental daggers at both men, though you catch his attention when he seems to worriedly look back at you.
Throwing him a wink, you flick your hair and focus back on the two men trying their damndest to be the one to take you home. You lean on the table beside you and pop your hip out, something that doesn’t go unnoticed by either of them.
“How about this;” you begin, speaking loud enough for the rest of the group to hear. Looking over at Beverly, you spot a maniacal grin on her lips as she leans up to whisper something in Jake’s ear. “If you can guess my major, I’ll let you buy me a drink,” you propose, putting on a show and laughing girlishly when both men begin to call out what they think your major might be.
“Vetenarian!”
“What? No, look at her, she’s clearly a drama student, with Beverly!”
“Astronautical Engineering,” Finn announces loudly, causing both Roper and Dale to turn and look at him like he’s insane. Clapping your hands together, you grin widely at him.
“Got it in one!” you tell him, laughing again when you see the appalled expressions on his friend’s faces. Finn smiles back, clearly having picked up on the fact you had no intention of letting any of his friends flirt with you, and pushes out of his seat, holding a hand out.
“Then I guess I get to buy you a drink, that’s my prize, right?”
You meet him on the otherside of the table, and take his hand eagerly, quickly throwing another wink back at the disappointed guys now hassling each other over apparently ruining the other’s chances.
“Right!” you say when you look back at Finn, his smile never waning as he leads you toward the bar.
When you arrive, he holds the little swivel seat steady for you as you hop up, before he takes up a lean next to you at the bar, standing close so you can hear one another above the music.
“Christ am I glad you remembered,” you huff with another roll of your eyes, jerking your head in the direction of his friends. Finn laughs.
“So am I. You nearly had me going there, giggling and all that!” He says with a small shake of his head. You cock your head at him and place a hand on the arm he has resting against the bartop.
“I’m sorry,” you begin to apologise, but he covers your hand with his own and shakes his head once more.
“No, no, that,” he gestures back to the tables. “Was extremely entertaining to watch. Not to mention satisfying.” he grins at you boyishly, but straightens briefly when the bartender approaches, placing both your drinks orders quickly before turning his ful attention back to you.
“Do you like watching, Finn?” you tease, leaning closer toward him. Finn smirks, but considers for a moment, flicking his eyes up then back to you.
“Depends on what I’m watching,” he tells you after a moment, before raking his eyes up and down your figure showily. “I would watch you do anything,” he flirts back, making you laugh.
You don’t go back to your group. You flirt shamelessly until you finish three more drinks each, at which point you slip off the stool and take his hands.
“Dance with me!” you call out over the music, already pulling him toward the dancefloor where Earth, Wind & Fire has started playing.
You can’t help but laugh in surprise, not only at how great of a dancer Finn really is, but at the way he spins and twirls you around the other dancers, singing along until your bodies crash togther once again. You reach up to wrap your arms loosely around his shoulders and neck as his own take a place at your hips, and you hold absolutely nothing back as you roll and grind them against his own.
You’re a little tipsy now, which is perhaps why you pull him closer toward you so you can speak.
“Have you ever looked at the stars?” you ask, still dancing.
“Think I’m looking at one right now,” he says matter-of-factly, making you throw your head back laughing, but you quickly shake your head.
“No, I'm serious!” you shout over the music, “We should go stargazing! I want to show you!”
Which is exactly how you end up back at your team’s house, laying on the front lawn curled up in one another as you point out constellations to him. Just as you finish showing him the big and little dippers, you sit up partially, resting your head in your palm as you stare down at him.
“Next time I have a shift at the observatory, I’ll try and sneak you in, you can see them so much clearer there!” you gush. Finn grins up at you, and tucks an arm behidn his head.
“Already cheating and planning our next serendipitious meeting, huh?” he asks, making you slip down a little lower to hide your face partially behind his sleeve.
“If you don’t want to, that’s okay, I know that doesn’t sound very sexy,” you trail off, resting your chin on his arm.
Finn looks away from you and back to the stars, his face suddenly a mite more serious than it ever has been.
“I don’t usually do this sorta thing,” he starts, voice low. “You know, seeing girls again after the first time,” he looks back down at you then, where you nod in understanding.
“That’s okay, I don’t really either,” you admit.
“It’s different with you,” he quickly goes on, but stops himself. When he doesn’t continue after a moment's pause, you poke him.
“Why?”
Finn sucks in a deep breath, holding it for a few seconds as his eyes turn away from you once again, before he lets it out.
“I don’t know,” he says, sounding unsure, but he’s quickly rolling himself over and draping an arm around your middle, so you lay face to face, only a hair's breadth away. “Maybe because you saw through all my bullshit and wanted to sleep with me anyway?”
You can’t help but shrug, a small smile curling over your face.
“I’d already decided that when we first met, I wasn’t about to let those ruses get in the way,” you tell him.
Finn smiles back, in that way that you like, with his eyes crinkling in the corners as he softly pinches your side.
“Maybe it’s because of how assertive you are, you know exactly what you want,” he adds as you squeak and jerk a little closer at his teasing. Your faces are even closer now, your noses touching, and you can’t help but shrug again.
“A lot of guys don’t, but I don’t really see that as my problem.” you say confidently, speaking nothing but the truth. If a man didn’t want you, you didn’t want him, and that was that.
Finn groans and cuddles closer.
“See, even you saying that’s making me hard!” he faux complains. You can’t help but laugh, leaning even closer to press a kiss to the corner of his mouth, moving back just as he tries to turn his head and capture your lips fully.
“Well, why don’t we go inside and take care of that?” you begin getting up, only stopped when Finn takes up your hand again and pulls you back. You let out a soft sound of surprise that is quickly muffled when he presses his lips to yours fully, hand moving to cup your cheek until you’re both giggling against each other. He finally pulls away and gazes at you cheekily.
“Only if you promise to sneak me into the observatory next time.”
Finn hums to himself as he flips another piece of french toast onto a plate, not even stopping when he hears someone else enter the kitchen. He glances back briefly and nods at Beverly who eyes him sardonically as she pulls on her second shoe and opens the fridge in search of juice.
“French toast?” Finn asks, gesturing with his spatula to the ingredients he’s got laid out. Beverly eyes the two plates of breakfast he’s already made, and takes a seat on the opposite counter.
“Sure,” she says, watching as Finn goes about preparing her food. “Kimberley stayed the night again?” she asks, receiving a little hum in reply.
“She sure did,” he informs her happily. Beverly snorts into her hand and sips from her glass of orange juice.
“What do the guys think about that?” she asks, recalling the shit Jake had gotten from his teammates at first when she herself had started hanging out at the house more.
Finn places her toast on to cook then turns around to lean on the counter top as he looks at her.
“I don’t really care what the guys have to say about it,” he starts, motioning upstairs with his spatula again. “Fact is, they’re out every night complaining about getting laid, I’m actually getting laid. If they don’t see that as winning, they’re bigger idiots than we already thought,” he tells her. Beverly laughs again as Finn turns back to the hob and flips her toast.
“Well, I never!” she says dramatically, hopping off the counter and making her way to his side. “You’re finally growing up!” she gushes, pinching his cheek until he swats her away with his utensil.
“Yeah, yeah,” he shoos her back slightly, before grabbing a napkin and placing her breakfast inside it, holding it out. “S’probably about time, anyway,” he admits somewhat quietly. Beverly only smiles at him, and accepts the food, ducking closer before he can realise to press a quick kiss to his cheek.
“Good for you,” she says, stepping away before she can be swatted at with the spatula again. “Thanks for the french toast!” she calls back as she scrambles from the kitchen. Finn rolls his eyes, turning the stove off and taking up both plates just as the front door opens then closes again.
Upon entering his room upstairs, which he now had to himself since the Willoughby incident, Finn quietly kicks the door shut behind him, before hurrying over to his bed, which he climbs onto carefully. All the movement wakes you some and you groggily lift your head from his pillow, eyeing him sleepily.
“Breakfast is up pretty lady,” he tells you, hovering one plate under your nose until you start to rise.
“You made me breakfast?” you ask softly as you go about sitting up. Finn situates himself cross legged in front of you, handing you a plate once you’re ready.
“Course! Big game day!” he says.
“That is so sexy,” you tell him, placing the plate aside on the mismatched bedside table he’d dragged in for you a few weeks ago, and lean forward to press a kiss to his lips, which turns into two kisses, which turns into you shuffling closer, almost into his lap. Finn pulls back though, and tuts at you.
“Uh, uh, uh sweetheart! Breakfast while it’s hot, and then sex!” he insists, chortling internally at himself. If he’d have heard himself a year ago, he wouldn’t believe it either.
Groaning, you flop back against the headboard, and roll your eyes, but your smile gives you away as you take your plate again, and begin on the first slice of french toast he’d prepared for you.
“Good girl,” Finn teases, earning another eyeroll.
You eat in comfortable quiet for a few minutes, and only when both plates are back on your bedside, and he’s finished having his second breakfast does Finn ask the question thats been bothering him for a while now.
“Why don’t you invite me to any of your games?” he asks quietly, playing with your hair as you cuddle up to his side. You’d need to get up and go soon to catch the bus that would take you and your team an hour and a half north to Baylor, who you were playing. He feels you pause and shift, looking down at you when you look up.
“Honestly, I didn’t think you’d be interested in coming…” you tell him guiltily. Finn scoffs.
“That’s ridiculous!”
You only shrug.
“None of the guys my teammates date ever want to come, and it's not like we’re used to having a huge audience anyway, being a women’s sport and all… most of the time the school doesn’t even take us seriously,” you admit. Finn shuffles to look at you properly.
“That’s stupid, I’d come to all your games, and not just to see you in your uniform!” he tells you assertively, before nestling his face closer to yours. “I’d even wear one of those tight little tops ya’ll wear.” he grins upon making you laugh, leaning down to kiss you.
After thoroughly making you late, you shower together and dress before he walks you to your car. Leaning in through the driver's side window, you kiss him again and ruffle his wet hair.
“The next time we play here, I’ll let you know,” you tell him as he pushes off and you begin backing out. Before you drive off, you lean out your window again and pull your sunglasses on. “And I expect to see you in one of those tight little volleyball shirts!”
Tumblr media
When your co-captain calls you over during the mid-game break, you aren’t sure what you’re expecting her to say, but it certainly isn’t what she does.
“Hey, isn’t that your boyfriend in the stands? Why didn’t ya’ll drive up together?”
Faster than lightening you whip your head around, scanning the minimal crowd of mostly parents and friends until right there in the front you spot the green-eyed, blonde. Blinking in surprise, you don’t even respond to your friend before you’re taking off in a jog toward the bleachers.
Finn stands as you approach, placing down a book he’d been holding as you get nearer.
“What are you doin’ here!?” you ask laughing as he greets you with a short kiss. You stare up at him in amazement, still blinking rapidly like he may poof out of existence any moment. Finn waves his arms wide and shrugs.
“I told you, I’d be at all your games!” he tells you, before gesturing down at the shirt he’d worn, only for you to realise it has your college’s volleyball logo emblazoned on it in burnt orange. “Had to make a few pit stops first though, so I only caught half of the first quarter.”
“Where did you get this?” you ask, pinching the hem of his shirt and waving it slightly.
“Snuck into the volleyball courts, asked one of the staff for it,” he waves off this fact breezily and instead bends down to grab his book again.
“Now, listen, I’ve been reading up on the rules, and you guys are doing great, but I reckon if you were more aggressive, you’d easily be able to exploit the gaps in Baylor’s strategy–” He doesn’t get to finish because you pull him in for a much more heated kiss.
“I’m going to blow you so good later,” you tell him upon pulling back. Finn grins wide, looking rather proud of himself, and you kiss him again until someone from your team whistles loudly at you.
You turn back to them, finding your gaggle of teammates crowded together and watching you in various states of giggles and hushed whispering. You look back at Finn and grin.
“Later. Did you drive?” you ask, to which he pulls his keys from his pocket and waves them for you. You begin making your way back to your team, but point at him.
“Later!” you say again.
Upon reaching your girls again, you call for a huddle and gather up.
“Alright, here’s how it is, we need to be aggressive for these last two quarters, Baylor has some gaps, I know we’ve all seen them, so now we take advantage,” you inform them quickly, earning nods and murmurs of approval from the team.
“Is he reading the rule book?” Nancy asks instead of replying to your new strategy, and you look up at her.
“Yes,”
“And he’s got a team shirt on!” Barbra adds, causing the girls to giggle amongst themselves again. You grin.
“Yes, he does. And If i’m gonna get laid later, we gotta win this, alright? Ready? Go!”
You know it’s a mistake the moment he picks up. His familiar deep husk that’s indicative of waking from a deep sleep. It stirs something inside you that you haven’t felt in so long that you almost hang up without a word.
“Hello?” he repeats drowsily, frustration already heavy in his tone.
“Jake,” you finally respond and you swear you can hear the breath catch in his throat.
“Hey.” The word is only three innocuous letters but it hurts as if it’s a breakup speech and you regret being so hasty to call. There’s a brief silence broken by the muffled sound of him grunting, and you know from memory he’s stretching across his bed to glance at the clock.
You swallow deeply, trying to block out the mental images of those taut abs tensing and contracting. Rippling as he fucks you long and hard in missionary—
“Y’know it’s 2am, right?” His voice interrupts your thoughts.
You know what time it is without needing to look at a clock. Like when your body is so in tune to waking up at the same time every morning, yours is programmed to reach out to Jake at 2am.
“Mhm.”
He sighs softly. “What’s happened?”
You don’t expect the question even though he always asks. Oh how you wish he’d get angry and hang up. It would certainly make these exchanges easier to deal with, but he never does.
I felt a moment of you in him.
You can’t tell Jake you missed his voice. Missed him. You’re too afraid to tell him anything.
“It’s not important,” you brush off, quickly changing the subject, “so, how you been?”
Jake coughs, clearing his throat. “Are you drunk again?”
“No,” you say, but the wine on your breath tells a different story. In reality, you’ve been drinking since you got home an hour ago, cutting short your date with Ben by feigning a stomachache. You did— do— feel sick, your gut twisting and turning as you try your best to wash down the memory of Jake on your skin, but it has done nothing except exacerbate your thoughts.
“You always were a bad liar,” he chuckles softly and the sound splits you down the middle before his tone changes. “Look, you should get some sleep. I’ll call when you’ve sobered up.”
“I can’t talk to you when I’m sober.”
“Why not?”
Because I’ll say all the things I should’ve said a year ago.
“This was a bad idea,” you backtrack hurriedly.
“D’you need me to come over?”
You shake your head vigorously, momentarily forgetting he can’t see you before you manage to choke out a solitary, “No.”
You can’t have him in your apartment. The last time it happened, all of the hard work you did to move on unraveled like a spool of thread in a matter of heated seconds.
As soon as he stepped inside, Jake was on you. Lips covering yours, hands in your hair— on the fastenings of your clothes as he rushed to free you from them. You mirrored his actions, tearing into his jeans as you kissed away the taste of bourbon from his tongue. He moaned into your mouth, a blissed out version of your name that you swear in the moment you’d have memorised for life. You stepped out of your yoga pants and jumped into Jake’s arms, wrapping your legs around his waist.
His cock was hot and wet as it notched at your entrance, teasing your pussy lips apart before he slid his way home—
“Hey, you still there?” Jake sounds panicked.
Your voice is thick as you reply, “‘m here.”
“Just say the word.”
No. No. No.
But that’s not the word that ends up slipping out.
-
I know I shouldn’t have offered. Yet I find myself bolting out of bed the second she whispers, “yes,” despite the reluctance in her tone that doesn’t fool me for a second. The entire ride over to her apartment, I can feel the deep tremble in my bones, the anticipation of seeing her again setting me on edge. And when I pull up in the parking lot, it takes all of my strength to drag myself from the car.
From the outside, I look like I have my shit together. A line of women queue up around the block to spend the night with me, and while I might indulge a couple when I’ve stumbled home from a bar, nobody can come close to her.
It’s simple. I didn’t do enough. I should’ve tried harder. I should’ve fought for what we had. But I had my chance and I lost it. She’s moved on, yet there’s a still part of me that can’t help but grasp at these lifelines— these little glimmers of the good times, and hope that maybe we can figure out a way to make it work.
It never goes any further than a quick hook up in the dead of night. And while I still want— need— her in every capacity, those moments hold me together like loose stitches, just waiting until they break apart and dissolve.
Apprehension takes hold as I step up to the door, lifting my fist high in preparation to knock. I hesitate for a moment, heart thudding against my rib cage. I could turn and walk away now, let us both move on like we should do, instead of suffocating beneath feelings I can’t verbalise. But as I fly blind into a cloud of denial, I always accept the lifeline she throws me, and I hold onto it like it’s saving me from plummeting to the ground from 30,000ft.
I knock and wait for her footsteps. When I finally hear them, my breath stalls in my throat.
-
You pause at the door, hand grasped loosely around the handle as you try to summon up the courage to open it. After all the time you’ve spent trying to create a void between you, it seems equally pointless as it is gut wrenching that he’s merely only a door’s width away from you now.
Eventually you suck in a deep breath and pull it open, feeling like your heart is on pause inside your chest as you wait for your eyes to land on Jake, like you expect the time and distance spent apart to have altered his appearance into something ghastly and hideous.
He hasn’t changed from the memory your mind has preserved, and that notion alone has enough weight behind it to make your whole body ache. Your gaze finally meets his and you stand there frozen, still remembering the way his touch felt against your skin the last time you stood in this very spot.
I never should’ve said yes.
Jake hovers in the doorway as if he’s waiting for your permission, and you hesitate in giving it to him before slowly moving out of his way to let him pass. He crosses the threshold in silence, sliding past you as his hypnotizing aftershave follows behind. Just the slightest inhale of it is enough to send you spiraling.
He turns to face you, brows furrowed in concern. “I can go.”
You shrug your shoulders in an attempt to act aloof. “If that’s what you want?”
“I wouldn’t have come if it was.”
Please don’t say that. Instead what comes out is, “I shouldn’t have called you.”
“Then why did you?”
“I don’t know, okay?” you rush out a little sharply, using the sudden burst of ire to slam the door shut. “What do you want me to say?”
“I don’t know,” he says, “how about the truth?”
You stare each other down for a moment before you storm past him, only making it as far as the kitchen until Jake is reaching for you. With his hand around your bicep, he spins you around to face him.
You pull your arm free of his grip and hiss, “Don’t touch me.”
He looks hurt. “Why?”
“If you start, I won’t want you to stop,” you break down, virgin tears threatening to spill down your cheeks.
Jake regards you like you’re the most fragile thing on earth with clear hurt in his eyes and you feel your heart crumpling at the sight. Quickly, he closes the gap between you and you put your hand up to his chest to stop him, but it falters the minute your fingers skim over the material of his t-shirt, and the hard steel of his chest beneath. You begin to pull away, but Jake grabs your hand before you have a chance.
His skin is hot on yours despite the cold outside and it sets your entire body alight.
“What if I don’t want you to stop me?” he whispers, his spare hand sliding around the nape of your neck to pull you against him.
“Then we’re on the same page,” you breath out before pressing your lips roughly to Jake’s.
The kiss is hasty and messy. All tongue and heated moans between frenetic scrambling to free yourself of enough clothes to get to what you want. Jake tugs at your skirt, lifting it higher and higher until it sits bunched around your waist, just as you reach into his jeans to pull out his cock.
With a husky grunt, he turns you around, forcing you over the edge of the counter. You both frantically tug down your underwear, allowing him enough access to your cunt to slide himself inside you.
There’s a sudden bout of silence between you— like a second to reflect that you shouldn’t be doing this and stop, but neither of you do. Jake tenderly kisses your shoulder, and you turn your head to capture his lips within yours once more. Slowly, he starts to rock back and forth, pulling out with sloppy wet sucks as he retreats and brings back with him deep, thick moans when he fills you back up.
You lift your arm, wrapping it around the back of Jake’s head to keep him close, not wanting to be given the chance to speak for fear of coming to your senses. It’s better this way— losing yourselves in the moment rather than blaming each other for how your relationship failed. Yet stray words still manage to slip free— hushed expletives and blasphemous grunts, amidst praising moans telling one another how good it feels.
Jake knows your body as if it were his own. Fucking you like he never left. And when you come, you wish he never had.
-
The early morning sun prickles against your naked back, warming your skin until it wakes you. Sleepily, you stretch out, fingertips meeting cold sheets. For a minute it feels like any other morning, until you remember…
Jake.
You sit up fast, grabbing the t-shirt you normally sleep in and roughly pull it over your head before rushing out of bed. The pile of his clothes you had both thrown onto the floor in a fervoured frenzy are long gone. The sheets where he slept are smooth. There’s no trace that he was ever even here.
Except between your legs.
Your heart drops as your body sags, the ache in your chest like a gaping wound, ripped open and raw. You feel so stupid, so gullible. How could you be so blind? And even though you were the one to call— knowing it would end up like this, you’re still somehow surprised that things haven’t changed.
Ben crosses your mind for the first time since last night and remorse hits you like a ten tonne truck. It doesn’t matter that you’ve only been seeing him for the past two months or so— you aren’t even necessarily exclusive— it’s still a betrayal of trust. One you won’t be able to earn back.
Tears ravage your body, huge sobs that echo around the room like a haunting symphony. You fall back onto your bed, curling up into a ball as you hold a hand to your chest in an attempt to keep your heart from bleeding through it. It takes everything in you to remember how to breathe through your cries, the anguish stealing away all cohesive thought as misery consumes you.
You don’t hear the footsteps outside your room, or the creak of the door opening. You don’t realise Jake is standing next to you until he appears in your tear-streaked periphery, looking terrified.
He places something on your nightstand before rushing to his knees beside you, reaching out to stroke your forehead. “What the hell happened? Are you okay?”
“Thought… you… left,” you manage to choke out through a fresh wave of tears.
“I just went to get us breakfast.” He glances at your nightstand and you follow his gaze— two coffee cups along with a brown paper bag sit there innocently.
You want to cry all over again, but for an entirely new set of reasons. Embarrassment blooms beneath your skin— white hot shame at allowing Jake to see you. The real you. The one buried beneath your grief.
Pushing yourself up, you keep your head down, not wanting to make eye contact. You chide and vilify yourself internally, wishing you could take back the last twelve hours.
“Did you really think I’d leave without saying goodbye?”
With a sniff, you mutter, “You’ve done it before.”
Jake scoffs. “Only because you force me too.”
Now you look up, staring him down through wet eyelashes and the elysium— the brief period of jubilation in his company all but melts away. He’s right and it stings. You create this shield— this barrier so he can’t do it to you first.
You clam up like every other time before— the words on the tip of your tongue, but you can’t seem to vocalise them and the constant lie you tell yourself finally becomes apparent.
It doesn’t matter if you’re sober or not, you’ll never be able to tell Jake just how broken you truly are without him. Just how much you still love him. And the constant cycle of pushing him away before begging for his touch at 2am will never end until you can.
“I never want to leave,” Jake confesses, “but you push and push until I believe that leaving is what you really want. If it’s not,” he takes the deepest of breaths, eyes pleading, but his jaw is set tight as if he’s expecting a blow to the face, “if you want me to stay, if you want me, I need to hear it.”
You feel the solitary word in your throat. Can sense it teasing along the seam of your lips until it spills over like blood seeping from a wound. “Stay.”
It’s Saturday night. Against your better judgment, you’re at the rickety baseball houses, silently debating if you’ll have time to get a tetanus shot before your study group tomorrow morning.
Finn twirls his pipe between his fingers, leaning against the porch railing in a ridiculous paisley button-up. “Aside from how to take my breath away, what do you study here, ladies?”
“Does that ever actually work on real, human women?” You ask, ignoring the elbow to your ribs that Sophia digs into your side, presumably to get you to shut up.
The blond tilts his head, processing. He eventually grins. “Take no prisoners kinda gal, aren’t ya? I like that.”
You hold back a grunt when Sophia elbows you again, answering the question before you can snark him any further. “We’re both journalism majors.”
Going to take a sip of your drink, something you’ll surely need to swallow whatever faux-enlightened comment he has about that little piece of information; you furrow your brows when you realize it’s empty.
“I’ll grab you another drink, try not to miss me too much.” Finn winks, the bastard. What a ham.
Your eye roll is barely contained when Sophia gives you a knowing look.
“Oh, come on, he’s sweet,” she insists.
“You’ve seen him with other girls, right? Everything out of his mouth is a line, Soph. It’s all bullshit. He’s pandering to us, so he seems better, different than his asshole teammates. It’s insulting.”
“Then why haven’t you told him to fuck off?”
“I think he’d be a good subject for my article.”
Her eyes widen. “About benevolent misogyny?”
“That’s the one.”
“How far are you gonna take this? Sleep with him to prove a point about how far a chauvinistic male will go for sex?”
You shrug. You hadn’t really thought it through, honestly. It’s not like it’d be a chore, he is pretty hot when he keeps his mouth shut.
She takes your silence as confirmation. “That’s kind of fucked up.”
“Can’t be worse than changing your entire personality every other night just to get laid.”
You find yourself sitting on the roof with Finn, having already shown up his mediocre golf swing. You’d never admit it to Soph, but your article is the furthest thing from your mind right now.
“True or false: all fundamental beliefs are reasonable.” You’re so taken aback by his pop quiz you almost don’t notice him sitting down behind you, pulling you into the space between his legs.
Smooth. You roll your eyes, but don’t move away. “False.”
You can hear the smile in his voice. “I see someone’s already taken Philosophy 101 with Roberts.”
“Yes, but that’s irrelevant. That’s an insane statement regardless.”
When you turn to catch a glimpse of him you see him opening his mouth, ostensibly to argue, but you shake your head. “My turn. True or false: all’s fair in love and war.”
“True.”
You can’t help the smirk that tugs at your lips. “Great answer.”
Finn positively beams. “Good question!” His hands drift up from your hips, working their way under your flimsy tank before he brings his lips to your ear, murmuring, “True or false: you’re gonna let me take you inside so I can take you apart.”
Your breath hitches. “True.”
He turns your head to him, mouth pressing against yours, mustache tickling you, soft and sweet for just a moment, before he slides his tongue into your mouth filthily. “Let’s go then, honey.”
Your tiny denim shorts and little tank get lost on the floor of his bedroom almost immediately, skin ablaze as he pushes you back onto his bed, on soft forest green sheets that smell like him – warm and spicy and earthy. He stays standing as he makes quick work of his own clothes, raking his eyes across your naked form.
You try not to shy away from his gaze, meeting his eyes defiantly as you feel slick pooling between your thighs. You’re barely keeping yourself from rubbing them together, words laced with an edge you don’t feel. “Thought you were working on a degree in cunnilingus. Put that mouth to good use, Finn.”
There’s a sparkle in those green eyes that you catch just before he braces himself above you, arms bracketing your head. His words are muffled against your skin as he kisses his way down your body. “Overheard that, did you? Knew you were paying special attention to me.”
You roll your eyes, mouth open to respond, but he drags his lips across your collarbone before his mouth closes around a nipple, effectively driving any wit from you.
He pushes your legs open wide, settling himself between them. His chest presses into the mattress as his arms wrap around your thighs where he’s busy putting them over his shoulders. When his mustache brushes against your thigh's sensitive skin, it sends shivers racketing through you and you feel his smirk only centimeters away from where you want it.
He licks his lips as your resolve crumbles with every passing second.
“C’mon, Finn, please,” you whine, threading your hands through his shaggy hair, trying in vain to pull him closer to your cunt.
“Impatient,” he tsks. You lean up to fix him with a glare, but it only makes him chuckle. “Don’t worry, honey, I’ll take care of you.”
He finally, finally licks a stripe up your slit, and despite it being exactly what you asked for, you tug on hard on the blond hair between your fingers in surprise. He groans long and low, vibrations rolling through your body from your center where his lips are busy fixing themselves to your clit.
His buries his face in you, moaning against your cunt as his tongue laps at you like a starved man. “Could spend hours drowning in this pussy, tastes so fucking good.”
The sound that leaves you in answer to that is pathetic – high and whiny – hips bucking. His big hands are gripping you so tight you’re sure there’ll be bruises high on your legs tomorrow. He stiffens his tongue to fuck it in and out of you, nose bumping your clit and making you shake, your eyes rolling back into your head.
Any sense of shame, any idea that you should keep yourself quiet in this house full of strangers has left you – your existence narrowed down to your hands in his hair, his lips on your cunt, the moans tearing their way from your throat, unbidden.
Your legs dig into his back, urging him in, hurtling towards the point of no return so fast all you can think of is needing more. He moves his lips back to your clit, hand loosening his death grip enough to slide a finger into the wet mess you’ve become at the same time he curls his lips and sucks.
“Don’t stop, please, Finn I -” You’re begging now, grinding against his face as much as you can in the vice-like grip he still has on you. He doubles his efforts, tongue working over your clit harder, finger inside you curling as you burn with the intensity of it, electricity bursting beneath your skin as the tension finally bursts, his name falling from your lips like a prayer.
Your legs feel like jelly. You let go of his blond locks belatedly, resigning yourself to your new existence as a puddle, a melted version of your former self.
He looks up from between your legs and grins.
You grab for his arms where they’re still flexed around your thighs, bringing him up face to face with you. He smiles, dropping sweet kisses to your parted lips and warm cheeks. Whining, you wrap your legs around his waist, wordlessly trying to pull him to you, get him inside of you, greedy for him.
“Don’t tell me a smart girl like you doesn’t know how to use her words,” Finn goads, laughter curling in his words, and you’re torn between wanting to smack him and beg like your life depends on it. You’re so distracted you barely notice him shifting his weight to his knees so he can reach for a condom, tear it open with his teeth, and roll it on.
You try to glare but he braces himself over you again, rubbing his cock between your folds, catching your oversensitive clit and a truly embarrassing whimper comes out, eyes blurring with a mix of pain and pleasure instead. “Finnegan.”
“Yeah, baby?”
Taking a deep breath, you try to get your last functioning brain cell to cooperate. “Get inside me right now or so help me –”
You can still feel the amusement on his lips as he ducks his head down to slot your mouths together to cut you off, swallowing your moan as he pushes into you, slow and steady.
When you flex your legs around his waist impatiently, he chuckles before setting a relentless pace, grinding his cock into you hard with each push. It’s too much, it’s not enough, it sets your skin on fire, it rackets the headboard against the wall – if his teammates didn’t know what was happening before, they certainly have a good idea now.
Your head lolls to the side as he hits that spot inside you on every thrust, nerves overloaded as you grip the nape of his neck, just trying to hold on.
“Fuck,” he groans, looking down at the glazed expression taking over your features. “Not gonna last long.”
The thought that he’s already so close from having his mouth on you has your eyes crossing, cunt clenching around his thick length. His face crumples, mouth parting like you’ve just knocked the wind out of him. “Trying to kill me, honey?”
He lifts one of your legs to his shoulders, leaning down towards you and bending you in half – pushing limits to flexibility you didn’t even know you had.
“Wanna feel you come on my cock, you can do that for me, can’t you?” Finn asks, panting against your cheek, deft fingers moving down to circle your clit.
The sparks shooting through you as he presses into your center border on pain but you’re nodding, head bobbing up and down of its own accord, nails scratching red along his shoulders as you get closer and closer.
“Good girl,” he grunts and you keen, his words hurtling you towards the edge again. “So good for me…look at you, smart ass, brilliant girl fucked dumb on my cock.”
He’s pulling almost all the way out of you on every thrust now, slamming back in, and your back arches against him, a string of unintelligible noises leaving you that you’re just barely aware of, mewling filling the air in the room as your release snaps through you, ears ringing.
When you come to, still shaking and clenching around him, he’s running his mouth still, a litany of praise and groans of fuck honey, perfect for me, spilling from his bitten, red lips. His hips tear forward without rhythm as he pumps into you one last time, filling the condom before dropping your leg and collapsing next to you, strings holding him up suddenly cut.
Finn rolls to the side, and you stare at the cracks in the ceiling, wondering if you’ll ever be able to move again. You think he’s talking, but you can’t even begin to register what he’s saying.
“Did I fuck all the brains out of the mouthy girl I brought up here?” Finn asks, amused when you don’t respond.
“Just surprised you wanted audience participation for your post-sex speech,” you snark, trying not to belay how difficult it is to form words currently.
“Well, I think Joanna Russ would disparage of me if I were indifferent to your thoughts and opinions immediately after getting off.”
 You raise an eyebrow. “You know who Joanna Russ is?”
 “The Female Man is a cornerstone of feminist literature. I read it be—”
 You can’t help but interrupt, brain quickly coming back online. “Because you thought it was going to be about the ideal woman through a man’s eyes.”
 He even has the gall to look offended. “Of course not, everyone knows Russ is a feminist writer.”
“Then you read it so more women would sleep with you after hearing that you’d read it.” He presses his lips together to hold back a smile and you snort. “I knew it.”
“Honey, don’t get mad at me just because it works.”
“Incorrigible.”
You lay your head on his chest, trying not to purr like a kitten as his hands tangle in your hair.
“I enjoy Jack Kerouac too if you really want to round out your article. Paint a full picture.”
Your eyes widen, trying desperately to keep in the surprised squeak when you look up to meet jade eyes and see them filled with mischief.
“Just a thought,” he murmurs, hands resuming their movements on your scalp, lulling you toward sleep.
Tumblr media
full disclosure i haven't actually read the female man but i'm pretty sure it was published in the 70s which seemed fitting for ews being set in the 80s. thanks for reading!
Tony sat down at his lab downtown with his eyes shot, the lights made him more than pale as he lay inside his car and faced the wall. He has been drinking since this afternoon. His tears filled his eyes as he looked to his side to find his uncle walking around to open the side of the car.
He was surprised to see him here, last he checked he was with Coulson on a small assignment.
“Tony..” He muttered, resting his head against his hand, “Come on buddy.”
“I can’t stand..I’m tired, JJ..” He replied, squeezing his eyes shut and leaned forward into his touch for a spilt second.
“It’s okay, I got you.”
Tony was silent as an arm was looped around his side, lifting him up and out of the car, standing over to leave the lab and head upstairs. Jason kept an eye on him asking if he was alright in which his nephew just nodded. He lay him down on the couch with a soft blanket across his body wrapped tightly to keep him warm.
Tumblr media
A moment later, he returned with a small glass of water and some fruit. Orange slices to be consumed by Tony within a matter of minutes. He watched him as he sat, allowing his nephew to rest his head on his shoulder and even saw the crossword puzzle on his neck start to erase with time.
“..I don’t know what’s gotten into me lately…” Tony admitted with a small sigh biting down on another orange slice.
Jason hushed his voice for a moment before humming, “It’s okay..you just got overwhelmed, you need a break, step back and regroup..”
“I’m boyfriend of the year..are Pepper and I even dating?”
“I would like to say you are..you will figure out, just no more running off for a while. Please.”
The brunette only nodded, as his uncle found something on the TV for him to watch. He even wondered if he should provide him a vitamin C infusion, JARVIS recommended it. All that matter was to keep him away for the drinks for a while and not have him stray away from help.
He has a good idea where to start.
~~~
Jason carried a 2 year old Rei in his arms, resting the small brunette on his hip walking around the mansion trying to get him to stop crying.
It was early in the evening. His mother was gone for a week, his father was stuck at work with Pepper and JARVIS was no help.
Rei was whimpering, having just returned from the backyard not wanting anyone to know he got hurt. Jason of course figured out the problem and cleaned up the small mess on his knee. Now he rested his head on his godfather’s shoulder as his hand cuffed the fabric of the sweater.
Him and Tony were the same in this aspect, getting hurt by something and wanting to deal with it by themselves. Yes, it showed independence but still, it was alarmingly obvious it wasn’t the best move.
“Aw penguin..” He said softly, gently resting his head against his own, “Rei, it’s gonna be alright..you’re fine now.”
“It hurts..” He mumbled into his shoulder, as soft tears rose to his eyes.
“I know that it hurts, but you took medicine for it and now you’re going to feel much better I promise.”
“I’m dumb, papa..”
Jason was pacing around the room at this point and paused but kept a hand rubbing circles across his small back. He hated hearing his kids talking about themselves that way.
“Hey, hey, you’re not dumb..you’re Rei Stark, you’re one of the smartest boys I know. You fell cause you’re running so hard, that’s all. It can happen to anyone, even me.” Jason explained.
“You fell?” He questioned removing his head the shoulder he was resting on to face him properly.
“Yeah I fell a lot. I still fall and trip over things, if you only knew how much times I almost died tripping over your father’s toys.”
“Really?!”
“Yeah, really. It hurt a lot, but I got up again. Just like you did.”
At that Rei softly smiled and nodded, feeling a bit better about not feeling so bad for falling down earlier. He was a strong kid but rather sensitive about things whether he admits it or not.
——
———-
“Pops, I think I like guys too now.” Rei blunted said entering the living room of Avengers Tower.
Jason was on the couch reading A Streetcar Named Desire when he heard his godson say those words. He took him a long moment to lock in what he said then smiled. JJ remembered Rei checking out some cute reporter two weeks ago but didn’t say anything to not embarrass him.
He already figured out that he might’ve felt that way but waited for him to come to his own conclusions about it.
Tumblr media
Rei waited for a response, he was kinda shitting his pants wondering what the heck he was going to say to him.
A few seconds later Jason spoke, “I know. And I’m happy for you.”
“Wait what?” Rei asked as his eyes silently widened, “Dad freaked out!”
“Your father is just being dramatic, thinking you weren’t going to ever date until your mid twenties. Don’t worry about him. How do you feel?”
“I feel okay, I guess. How are you not freaking out?”
“Kiddo your grandfather and father aren’t straight eariler. I was just wondering to see if you were gonna being home a boy or girl someday, I’ll love you all the same. You know that.”
“B-but..I was ready for some lecture or something.”
“I’m not Cap, kiddo.”
“Wait grandpa wasn’t…that’s impossible he married grandma and dad never said..”
“Your grandfather has always been into blondes. Hence why he liked me, Cap, my sister and your grandmother.”
“Oh shit, grandpa was bi..and so is dad? Just to be clear, you’re cool with all of this, right?”
“Yeah, you’re my kid. As long as you don’t date some ignorant jerk or bitter bitch we’re fine.”
Rei nodded thinking it went better than he thought. Of course he wasn’t going to bring anyone to his house who insulted him or made him feel guilty, he wasn’t stupid.

Tony and Jason were in the middle of the kitchen together sharing some slices of pizza. A small mission went as planned, the heroes were all celebrating at home with them.
It was quiet. A little too quiet for his liking.
“Where’s our son?” Yelled a voice that belonged to his wife.
And there it is.
Despite not being officially confirmed as married to a legal counsel, in their hearts they are.
Tumblr media
Liz came in with her arms crossed stealing a slice of pizza from the box muttering that she was hungry. Tony locked eyes with his uncle then looked at his aunt with a smile.
“Whatever it is, blame the kids!” Tony exclaimed taking another bite.
“You stole my blueprints from the basement without telling me.” Liz said looking between her nephews and husband.
“How is that a bad thing?”
“Because they are mine. Some of them were…made for the military during the war.”
“I was just going to reinforce them into better positions and transport your idea into something useful for the modern day.”
Jason joined into the conversation as he added, “Honey, you did make some explosive points when you created those fine numbers back in the day.”
Liz jokingly glared, “Who’s side are you on?”
“I’m afraid to say which one.”
“Good answer.”
Tony sighed, “In my defense, I was just curious! It’s not like I going to have something blow up in my head…this time at least.”
“I swear you’re more like your father every day..” She muttered softly smiling, as she pinched the bridge of her nose, “Next time, you come to me with an idea. We’re a family for a reason, you have my brain!”
The three of them talked it over coming to a good compromise. But a part of Jason couldn’t wonder how Liz would react if Louis, Tony’s brother who lived in another city within the United States, stole one of her blueprints too. It was always evident that the Stark boys tend to be the most curious boys alive, it resulted in those sets of brother destroying one of his favorite cars.
They always tend to take a small comment and trickle it down to a roar, as one small idea would turn into something great for humanity or an opportunity gone wrong. That’s how Ultron was created…

“Alright. Relax your shoulders a bit, tighten the grip on the handle and have your fingers line up the tip of the arrow.” He instructed with a smile.
“Like this?” She asked, holding up her bow and arrow at an angle.
Tumblr media
She could’ve learned from Clint but he was busy on a date with his wife and her mom was babysitting. She already knew how to use a gun, but extra protection in skills was always a plus.
She picked out a specific arrow she wanted to use and took care of the bow she was handed. She questioned if Jason even knew how to work this kind of equipment.
His response, “I never said I didn’t know how to use a gun. And never said I didn’t know how to shoot an arrow either.”
“Fair point. When did you learn to shoot with a bow and arrow?” She wondered with a smile.
“I was on a mission in Tokyo, to chase down some idiot who stole a type of drug. As I was running through the streets, s arrow came flying from a rooftop to straight into the guys leg. Then I met the guy who shot him.”
“What wad his name?”
“Karl Yune. He was a good archer, he taught me a thing or two about this.”
“Sounds like a nice man.”
“Yeah, his older cousin worked as a geneticist in Korea.”
“…they are not related to Ji-Hoon, they are?”
Jason just winked telling her return to training as she grinned softly to herself. The two of them went onto 2 rounds, as he showed her how to start feeling comfortable with holding such equipment. Rochelle wasn’t that bad at the game, shooting the wall full of targets as best as she could.
“Good. Now you’re ready for take on your real teacher.” He said with a chuckle, lowering his bow.
She raised an eyebrow confused by his wording, “What..”
As if on cue, walked in a tan skinned woman with long brown hair and tattoos. She held a grin greeting Jason with a tight hug before turning around to meet Rochelle.
“Lydia Barton.” She said holding out her hand to shake.
Tumblr media
The redhead smiled shaking her hand and said, “Rochelle, but you probably already know who I am.”
Jason smirked telling them to be careful and have fun, that he’ll be back to check up on them later. Both girls just grinned leading into a casual but intriguing discussion on their favorite things, before training.
Something told him that they would be good friends.

“Give it back! It’s mine you little twerp!”
“It was mine first! I saw the last batch of cookies before your ass ever thought about them.”
“Oh really mature using curse words at me!”
“What do you care? You’re failing grammar anyway!”
“HEY! That’s enough.” In called Jason’s voice as he swung into the room snatching the cookie out of Ava’s hand and placing against it lips instead, “If you were are gonna fight over a damn cookie, then neither of you deserve to eat it.”
Rei crossed his eyes like the 9 year old he was and scoffed, “It was mine!”
“Oh pleaseeee, you said you didn’t want any cookies in the first place anyway!” Ava barked back.
“I could’ve wanted it for later, ever think of that!”
“You’re such a smartass sometimes…no wonder you don’t—”
Jason glared at both kids, “Ava, don’t even finish that sentence. And Rei, if you wanted it so badly why didn’t you tell her? You two could’ve broken the cookie in half instead of making a mess out of it.”
Both young Starks looked away from their godfather, feeling guilty and embarrassed for causing such a scene in the kitchen. Yet there was an instant anger behind their eyes, as Rei and Ava glared at each other. It was normal for siblings to fight over plenty of things but theses two would argue over everything, not making up afterwards either.
Their godfather sighed softly as he watched both of them in silence waiting for an answer that ever came.
Then he spoke, “You know something? There is something I want both of you to understand. Listen good, when I say that you two only have each other. Friends will come and go, they won’t always stay despite your best efforts. But as siblings, that’s a unit that you created for the moment your brought into this family.”
Ava muttered, “But he’s a little smartass, he thinks he’s always right..”
“Cause I am..” Rei added hearing his big sister.
Jason gave them a certain look as he continued, “You two are young, so you don’t get it right now. But there will come a time when you need each other but because you were both so harsh and pigheaded with another, you’re gonna feel alone. You’ll hate each other..despite a little part of you that still loves them..you don’t want to accept that. Then you won’t even want to imagine what happens next to your relationship.”
At those words, the siblings looked at one another then glanced down at the floor, that heavyweight anger started to creep away from their systems. Ava started to feel sorry for her actions as Rei began to feel upset about staring a riot. They knew he was right but didn’t want to admit it. There was another moment of silence in the room, only the small sound of Jason’s biting down on the cookie that didn’t matter to them anymore. The sibling exchange small gestures of apologies toward one another, even apologizing to their godfather as well.
Tumblr media
Ava asked, “Did you ever get into fights with your siblings?”
Rei added, “You and auntie Peg look like you could have fought a lot.”
“Well…” Jason replied with a half smile and shrugged, “..yes, me and aunt Peg fought a lot, but we always tried to make up for our mistakes. But I had another sister before her…her name was Dot, she was smart and cunning, she wasn’t ever around to help me…when she was, she treated me like crap, so we always fought..”
“Did you ever forgive her?” Ava asked out of curiosity, hoping for a good answer.
“Uh..we did forgive each other every once in a while..I tried to forgive her, but she never had the courage to forgive me. She was my big sister, I loved her, but she wasn’t really someone I would call to help me if I was in trouble, she would leave me out to dry..”
Rei nodded, “So that’s why you and auntie Peg are good friends..she was like a sister..so you want me and Ava to be like that too?”
“Exactly. You want both of you to look out for each other, make sure you’re alright and not hurt. Not leave the other in the dust.” Jason responded with a smile.

———————
Cue scenes of Jason playing with his first godchild, Ava Stark, in her bedroom pretending to be Pop Stars. Ava was singing along to Christina Aguilera, Gwen Stefani and Avril Lavigne with a toy guitar in her hands.
Jason was sitting on the floor waving lights around and dressed in a funny hat, pretending to be her producer for a music video. He loved seeing his goddaughter shine acting out magic video footage in her bedroom as he filmed her. At first he didn’t want to be recorded on any cameras but after some encouragement from Tony and the others, she tried it out.
“I'll spread my wings, and I'll learn how to fly. I'll do what it takes 'til I touch the sky. And I'll make a wish, take a chance, make a change.” She sung into her microphone as she played the guitar.
“And break away!” Jason sung along to the lyrics.
--------
One of the things of having a little girl in the house, songs get repeated every so often you remember the lyrics yourself. Poor man still has Under The Sea stuck in his head from last weekend.
It’s one of those things that carries over every generation of children he gets to know is the music taste, he may not always appreciate or enjoy the music but it does tend to become an enjoyable ear worm for him. If it’s AC/DC album from Tony to Selena Gomez’s Who Say from Rochelle, they tend to get stuck in his head!
Tumblr media
He tries to not let everyone in on his own playlist of songs but sometimes it will slip out…
Jason just finished a small meeting with the industry and answering questions from SHIELD investors, who just annoyed him the whole time, and decided to make himself a grilled cheese sandwich. He yelled out if anyone else wanted one but received no answer, so he shrugged, then popped in his ear buds cuing in his playlist. He had a bunch of songs.
“Starring at the blank page before you, open up the dirty window. Let the sun illuminate the words that you cannot find…” He sang out to the lyrics slapping both sides of bread onto the frying pan.
That was when Ethan stumbled into the kitchen saying, “JJ you saying some..”.
He paused noticing that the blonde wasn’t listening and singing instead as Liane bumped into him, she exclaimed to her boyfriend something important but Ethan told her to hush as he pointed out the scene in front of them.
Liane was confused for a moment then squeaked seeing Jason singing out loud as he danced in place, it wasn’t something she saw coming but was more than surprised to see the man was in his element. She smirked to herself wondering what other songs he knew.
A couple of days later, the pair were coming back from their trip to the movie theater as that very song was playing on the radio. The two walked in singing it loud enough to hear along with a group of Taylor Swift songs. Before they knew some of the young avengers were humming the damn tune.
The tall blonde walked past hearing his serenity song being sung, raising an eyebrow at everyone’s actions wondering who else knew about this. Oh god he wasn’t gonna be able to live that one down anytime soon.
———
—————
One of the biggest things people always assume is that he was the best parent ever, due to the young avengers always wanting to hang around his chill vibes and warm atmosphere he created.
But the truth is that he wasn’t a freaking super-dad or anything. He grew up with a somewhat rusty alcoholic father and a mother who was always traveling around with her kids, leaving him to pick up the pieces himself when they weren’t at home bricking about something. In response he tried to convince the world he was going to be fine no matter what happened, he even believed it himself.
Tumblr media
Jason even promised to make the best he can when he gets the opportunity to be a father himself, in this case an uncle, someone who was there for his kids. He might not know everything or even be skilled at certain aspects of life, but he tries. So when Tony was born he decided he would stick around, live closer to Howard and Maria, but it also meant he would be away for work and signing papers for different aliases. Still, he did it, even though he might not want to talk about it with many.
He keeps himself, cool, calm and composed in collected fashion. Yes, he has his flaws such as drinking, having a temper and smoking (it was for a short period of time, he quit in the early 70s), Jason was still there for Tony. Same thing goes for his godchildren, which is a privilege and gift to watch them grow and learn now, he still has those moments where he ends up not getting enough rest due to taking care of them.
So to Natasha, Tony, Bruce and the other parents he seems like the only well informed and intelligent one when it comes to parenting, it’s only was all due to respect, patience and watching how the ball rolls. He used to put so much pressure on being the awesome uncle and whatnot, then he realized that all you need to do is be there for your kids.
They don’t ask of much, only for you to spend time with them even if you’re far away and need to do a phone call with that. Same thing goes for any relationship romance or platonic, as long they know you’re there for them, that’s what matters.
Like the saying goes, ‘No one is freaking perfect’. He’s still learning how to raise theses guys!
————-
——————
Nicknames. He doesn’t have nicknames for everyone, only if the person is comfortable with them, of course. But that never stops Jason from making up silly nicknames for the kids, usually they come out naturally without even trying.
Tony has had a few nicknames such as Butterball or Meatball when he was a baby, he was a round cubby little guy. Over the years it was Bambino, Bubba, Tones, Bunny and etc.
Rei was always Bubba, Sonny or Penguin, on occasion he would throw out the Papo (which is what him and his grandmother Maria use to call his father when he was younger)
Liane, he absolutely calls Princess or Your Majesty, when she's being a bit bratty
Rochelle tends to be, Li'l Red
For Cassie, he calls her Goldie cause her hair shines bright like gold in the sun
Melissa gets classic nicknames but he will throw out Peaches or Ladybug
Lydia, due to knowing her skills he will call her Sparrow sometime or just Ly
And the list goes on!
~~~~~~~
There has been moments where Jason has took a leap of faith to save his kids. Such as in 2013, when Stark Mansion was attacked and the whole place falling apart he remembered Pepper and Liz's screams as Ava was about to fall off the cliff of their home.
Tumblr media
Tony and Rei were busy fighting and trying to get everyone to out of the house safely. But Tony's suit wasn't working correctly either. Jason swooped in, sliding down the rubble and dust coughing as he catches Ava before she can fall.
"Baby look at me! It's okay, I got you.." He said rescuing her, as she clung to him tightly.
The two of them climbed back up the rubble and into the destroyed mansion as Ava went to help the others. The drones just kept on firing and tearing apart the house. Suddenly water took over dunking Jason, Tony, Liz and Rei all down into the ocean as Pepper and the other kids stayed above water.
To say Jason has taken a lot of hits for Tony and the kids was an understatement. For example, that same Christmas in 2013, there a fight on the streets where they landed in after almost drowning, as two crazy bitches was about to attack Rei. Jason choked one of women out as he was stabbed in the side.
The crazy burning women gave Jason some flirty eyes as she did so. He was not pleased. Liz was pissed off having finished fighting some guy to protect Tony.
But she thankfully swoops in wracking the women in a pole as she yelled, "Hands off, bitch!"
~~~~~
~~~~~~~~
He did have good moment as well, that didn't involve a fight (yet), such as 2015 during a Stark party New York City. The Avengers, young and old just finished a battle, as a party was being made to celebrate.
Tumblr media
Jason has been in and out of Stark parties over the years, sometimes he stayed the whole night and or times he went home early. This night felt like a good one, he had his girl with him, his friends were partying and the kids were enjoying themselves.
They all deserve a win.
Hell he even danced a bit, drank a beer with Thor and played pool with Sam. He saw Steve walking away for a moment to text some girl, not declaring on who it is he was messaging, despite Nat and the other teasing him.
Nat even muttered, "Oh I'll find out."
It felt good. He rolled his eyes at Tony's jokes and laughed at others. Soon enough, the party died down as everyone rested around the living room area sharing smiles as they all chatted.
Rick has Rochelle and Luna resting on each of his shoulder, Bruce was chatting with Natasha, Maria Hill was wearing Steve's jacket as she chatted with Liz and Liane was playing with a set of cards with Lydia beating her.
Steve and Thor were sharing another bottle of beer, Tony was grab one for himself and Cole was playing Janga with Rochelle. Everyone was there. Beside it held Thor's precious hammer.
"Come man, it's trick!" Clint exclaimed swirling his drumsticks.
"Dude, I tried lifting it once in New Mexico, it's glued to whatever ground it's on!" Jason added pointing to the hammer.
"Whoever shall be worthy shall have the power! Whatever man, it's a trick."
"Really?"
"Yeah!"
Thor smirked chuckling allowing Clint to take a swing at it. Everyone looked around amused of the honest challenge as Clint stood up smug looping his hand around the handle trying to pick it up. But failed dryly chuckling as he joked.
"Smell the silent judgement." Tony remark.
"Please, Stark, by all means." Clint said returning back to his seat next to his blonde friend.
"Oh this gonna be good.." Liz muttered hearing Liane snort at her comment.
Some of the young heroes wiggled their eyebrows, cracking a few jokes and engaging in conversations as they all watched.
Tony stood up muttering how it was all physic and how he planned to use rule Asgard as Bruce rolled his eyes, watching his friend trying but failed. He even returned with an Iron Man arm to help and lift it. Poor Rhodey was pulled into it too.
"Are you even pulling?" Tony exclaimed.
"Just represent. Pull!" Rhodey told him.
"Alright let's go."
Still nothing. Soon enough, almost everyone tried. Rochelle and Cassie gave it a try, as their eyes flashes trying to find the strength to do it. Rei scoffed as him and Rick round came, believing putting both their heads together they can do it.
Bruce pretended to turn like the Hulk as he pulled, causing a roar of chuckles and laugher from the gang. Nat smiled finding it cute shaking her head. Ethan and Ji-Hoon picked up the pace, but failed.
Liane and Cole teamed up to pick the hammer from it's place on the table. Hell, some of the teammates tried to use magic but instead moved the table and items surrounding it.
Liz and Lydia joined forces, taking the team up route. Tony joked how he tried it already but failed. It went on and on for a while, passing drinks and snacks watching the show of friends take their turn at Thor's challenge.
Then it was Cap's turn.
Steve took a swing of beer before getting up with a smile. His eyes narrowed rolling up his sleeves taking a deep breathe, looping his hands around the handle and pulled.
The Hammer Nudge.
It made a small squeaking noise, some eyes turned gasping to themselves and other didn't even catch wind of it quick enough to catch the moment. Thor's eyes widen as his stress level turned up a little thinking it was dreaming. Steve pulled again, as the hammer stayed in place.
Steve raised his hands in air declaring defeat with a small smile. Thor was chuckling as he said, "Ha! Nothing."
Luna and Natasha didn't even bothering knowing it won't work, despite Bruce and Rick nudging them on. They were smart in a way to watch and laugh the whole go on. Not everyone went, some decided to try again after getting some food in their system.
But again nothing.
"All difference to the man who wouldn't be king. It's rigged." Tony proclaimed searching for another beer.
"You bet your ass." Clint added in agreement.
Maria smirked, "Steve, he said a bad language work."
Steve sighed and looked at Tony as he said, "You tell everyone about that?"
Tony ignored his comment and joked, "The handles imprinted right? Like a security code? Whoever is carrying Thor's fingerprint is, the literal translation."
"If so, then Thor's son or daughter should be able to lift it right?" Rochelle questioned which sparked a whole other conversations among themselves.
One of them wondered who exactly can lift and what would it take to do so.
Thor stood up from the couch, putting his drink down as everyone looked at him.
"Yes, yes, that's a very interesting theory. But got a simpler one." Thor said bending down then lifting his hammer with such ease, "You're all not worthy."
Everyone chuckle, commenting on his words and either rolled their eyes at his answer. Some of them shook their heads, exchanging looks with one another.
Tumblr media
The guests began filing into their assigned seats. You peek out taking everything in; your heart beating frantically in your chest. This was it, this was the day you became Mrs. LT Jake Seresin.
After a year long engagement you were excited to finally be tying the knot with the best man you had ever known; Lt Jake “Hangman” Seresin. “You look stunning.” Penny says, interrupting your thoughts. You blush as you look at her. “Thank you.” you whisper, taking one last look at yourself in the full length mirror. Maverick knocked on the door. “Everyone decent?” you hear him laugh. Penny grabs the door letting him in. “Wow!” he says as he gets his first look at you. “Jake is going to lose it when he sees you.” Maverick adds, kissing your cheek gently. “Thank you for doing this.” you say to Mav as you take his waiting arm, ready to walk you down the aisle.
When you and Jake had begun to plan the wedding, one of the first things you did was ask Mav to walk you down the aisle. You all had gotten so close and you couldn’t think of a better person to give you away, since we weren’t really close with your family, and Maverick and Penny had pretty much become your family since you moved here. He didn’t hesitate to say yes. “You okay?” He asks as you make your way towards the beach. You smile. “I'm more than okay.” you sigh, squeezing his arm and the two of you head towards the altar. Towards Jake, who looked more handsome than ever, standing there looking at you in his Dress Whites, green eyes sparkling in the San Diego sun. You sigh. He was your everything.
Rooster, who was Jake's best man, elbows him as he sees you coming down the aisle. Jake turns and the breath catches in his throat. “She looks so beautiful.” Jake whispers. He couldn’t take his eyes off of you as you made your way to him. He tries to stop the tears but he can’t help it. He can hear Rooster laughing at him but he just ignored him. Maverick stops right in front of Jake. You see him all teary eyed and you smile as you try to stop your own tears. “You two are ridiculous.” Maverick teases as he gives Jake your hand. He gives you a quick kiss on the cheek and takes his seat beside Penny in the front row.
“You look so beautiful.” Jake whispers to you. He hasn’t been able to stop looking at you since you began walking down the aisle towards him. You can’t stop the tears now. And you both laugh as he reaches up to wipe the tears from your cheek. “Can’t have you ruining your makeup, that’s my job.” he winks at you. “Jake.” you blush, shaking your head, embarrassed. But you couldn’t help the smirk that crosses your lips.
You and Jake both decided to write your own vows. “My Beautiful Y|N.” Jake says, taking a breath before he continues. You smile up at him. “When I first got here to TOP GUN, to San Diego. I was this bachelor, never planned on settling down, wild and cocky.” he paused because everyone laughed knowing that was the damn truth. “But then I met you and though you made me chase you at first.” you laughed. “It was so incredibly worth it. Every second with you is the best day of my life and I can’t wait to spend every day loving you, chasing each adventure with you as my wife; my forever girl, I love you.” he says, running his thumb over your cheek capturing a tear beneath it. You melt into his touch before you begin your own vows.
“My Dearest Jake.” you say. Eyes locked with his gorgeous green ones as you confess your love to him. His thumb rubs slow circles over the top of your hand, squeezing it tight as you continue. “I knew when I first saw you walk into the Hard Deck, with those aviators on, toothpick in your mouth, and the cockiest little grin on your face, that you were going to be trouble for me.” he chuckles, because he knew it. “I had a no pilots rule but it looks like rules were meant to be broken, obviously.” “You just couldn’t resist my charms.” Jake chims in. Everyone laughs as you shake your head. “You’re right I couldn’t resist your charms. I never thought I’d find someone to love me as much as you do, or to take care of me as well as you do and I am forever grateful to Top Gun for calling you here to me. I love you Jake and I can’t wait to spend the rest of my days drooling over you in that flight suit.” you smirk and the crowd of your friends and family laugh. A few more words were exchanged, along with the I Do’s. and finally the words you had been waiting for since you walked down the aisle to him.  “Jake, you may kiss your bride.” “Finally.” he grins, pulling you into him, his lips capturing yours. A soft little moan left your lips and he grins. “Hold that thought, princess.” he whispers, giving you a cocky little smile. God you loved this man. “Ladies and Gentleman, I present to you for the first time as husband and wife. Mr. and Mrs. Lt Jake “Hangman” Seresin.” The Chaplin says as you turn to your friends and walk hand in hand down the aisle with your husband.
The reception was being held at the Beach club so you didn’t have to go far. Jake still hadn’t let go of your hand. “You know.” you turn to him. “If you let me go I'm still gunna be your wife.” you giggle leaving a gentle kiss on his nose. He smiles. He pulls you into him, kissing you wildly, his hands roaming your body. “Jake.” you groan, begging him not to give your friends and family a show. You feel him smirk into your lips. “You are so bad.” you moan, you just couldn’t help yourself. “As if you’d want me any other way.” he says, biting your lip. You chuckle. “You’re right, I wouldn’t.” you whisper. You hear Rooster calling your names and you know that’s your cue to make your entrance.
You get out of Jake’s lap, taking his hand once more, you look up at your husband. “Ladies and Gentlemen, please welcome; Mr. and Mrs. Jake Seresin.” you hear Rooster as you make your way into the grand hall. Everyone clapped and cheered. Jake pulled out the chair for you before sitting beside you. Earning an AWW from the crowd. That’s when the speeches began. You could only imagine what was going to be said about Jake or about you. Thankfully everyone remained tasteful and happy for you both. After there was dinner and drinks and then the first dance. “Rooster had to teach me these moves.” Jake joked as he led you out onto the dance floor. You couldn’t help the laugh that escaped your lips, just picturing him and Rooster slow dancing together. He held you tightly never taking his eyes off you as you two danced, though the room was filled with friends and family it seemed like, there on that dance floor it was just the two of you spinning around and around. Just like how it began.
The night began to wind down. “Are you ready my love?” Jake asks as you get ready to make your final exit to a waiting car that was ready to take you to your honeymoon. You look at him with a smirk. “More than Ready honey.” you look up at him through thick dark eyelashes and he knew it was time to get his wife back to the room and take full advantage of her.. Your friends and family lined up blowing bubbles as you and Jake laughed and smiled and said your goodbyes, getting into the car.. you gave your friends one last wave before Jake pulled you into his arms in the back seat of the limo. Finally he was alone with his gorgeous new wife.
“Hi.” you whisper. “Hi” he whispers back. Leaning down and capturing your lips with his. You can feel his warm hand sliding up your thigh underneath your dress. You sigh. A quiet little moan leaving your lips. Jake smirks into your neck, your fingers running through his hair. There was a knock on the privacy window. “We’ve reached the hotel.” you both groaned having to separate yourselves from each other. You had chosen to stay local for now, since Jake was teaching. The Limo door opened and you and Jake stepped out. He looked at you and took your hand. “I've already had the suitcases and everything taken up to our room, it just needs us.” he smirks. “You are the best.” you whisper. As he sweeps you up in his arms and carries you towards the elevator. People are congratulating you the whole way to your room. Jake hands you the room key and you slide it in while he holds you.
The room had the most perfect view of the beach, but you had a feeling you wouldn’t be seeing much of it from the way Jake was looking and touching you right now. “Give me a minute?” you ask. He nods and you step into the bathroom. Didn’t want your beautiful expensive wedding dress getting ruined by your over eager, ready to devour you husband. You stepped out of your dress hanging it up in the garment bag on the back of the door. You let your hair out of the clips, still curly and perfect. You looked in the mirror admiring yourself in your white lace bra and panty set you picked out especially for tonight. You smirked, knowing it wouldn’t be on long.
“Mrs. Seresin, where are you? Jake calls from the bed. You smile. “Coming Mr. Seresin.” “Not yet but you will be.” you hear Jake reply with a laugh. “Jake!!!” you roll your eyes as you leave the bathroom and your new husband gets his first look at you out of your wedding dress. “Shit babe.” he says getting up from bed, his hands finding your body immediately. “I'm still not sure how I got so lucky to land you as my wife.” his lips have moved from yours, down to your neck. Your body melting into his. You moan his name quietly. “I don’t know how we got so lucky to find each other.” you manage.
Your back had found the soft sheets of the hotel bed. Jake’s hands on your body, lips on yours, losing yourself in each other. The cold metal from his dog tags send a shiver down your spine as they dangle from his neck on to your chest. “Jake” you moan his name and he can’t help the smirk that crosses his lips as he looks down at his beautiful wife beneath him begging him to cum. “Please Baby..” you whine breathless beneath him. He buries his face in your chest as you arch your back off the mattress into him, hips crashing together. “Oh God Jake, right there!” His name rolls off your tongue like the most beautiful sin, as he watches you cum for him, eyes rolling back, hips colliding with his, breathless moans, all cascading into the most beautiful scene he had ever laid his eyes on.. With the simplest grip of his bicep, nails digging into his skin, he joined you in ecstasy. Your name, a soft sweet whisper on his perfect lips.
  The two of you lay together in silence for a moment taking each other in. Jake smiles as he tucks a loose strand of hair out of your face. “I love you.” he whispers, fingertips tracing small circles over your delicate skin. You roll over into his arms, with a love drunk smile on your face. “I love you too, LT Seresin.” you kiss his lips slowly, his hands find your hips and before you know it he’s pulling you on top of him. You can’t help the giggle that leaves your lips. You were pretty damn sure this was what heaven felt like.
You were standing out on the balcony of your hotel room getting your last look at the gorgeous view before heading back to reality with your new husband in tow.  You feel Jake wrap his large arms around you and you melt into his body with a large sigh. “I can’t believe today is the last day of our honeymoon.” you say. He squeezes you tighter in his arms, kissing your neck gently. “The honeymoon is just beginning.” he smirks. You never thought that cocky boy from Texas would ever be wrapped around your finger but here you were.
“I do have a surprise for you.” he says, nibbling on your ear. “Mmmhmm what’s that?” you manage, with a lust filled sigh. There was a moment of silence as he took further advantage of the moment. “It would require us to leave a little earlier than we wanted.” he says, you're lost in his green eyes. You’d honestly let this man take you anywhere. “Alright.” you say more curious than ever now.
The two of you pack up early and check out. Jake drives; one hand on the steering wheel the other on your thigh, you’re laughing and joking, your fingers intertwined with his on your lap. “Close your eyes.” he says, looking over to make sure you did what you're told. Obviously you do.   “Jake!” you giggle. “Keep them closed.” he whispers. You sigh. He laughs. “Good girl.” he whispers as he leans over to give you a kiss. At this point the car had stopped and you could hear Jake taking off his seatbelt and digging for something in the center console. “No peeking.” he chuckles. “Jake, where are we?” You are trying your best to listen but the suspense is killing you. You hear him chuckle again as he opens his car door and walks over to the passenger side, opening your door and taking your hand. “Keep those beautiful eyes closed baby, I promise you are gunna love it.” he says as he helps you out of the car. You laugh. “Alight alright, I trust you.”
He leads you up a walkway and then stops. “Alright open your eyes babe.” he whispers. You open your eyes and you're standing in front of this absolutely gorgeous home. Prior to getting married you and Jake had looked at a few houses but nothing really stood out to you, except this one perfect house and there you were standing on the front porch. “Welcome Home, Mrs Seresin.” he says looking over at you with so much love and happiness you thought your heart just might explode. “Home? Are you serious?” you look at him shocked, surprised and so in fucking love with him. “The realtor got me an amazing deal that I couldn’t pass up and I know how much you loved this place, so I thought I'd surprise you.” he whispers. Watching your eyes light up as he scoops you up and carries you over the threshold of your new home.
“Jake, I don't know what to say.” you kiss him passionately before he can say anything. He sets you down in the kitchen and you stand there looking at him. “I love you so much.” you say throwing your arms around him. He can’t help but laugh. “They have me teaching TOP GUN with MAV now and Flying a few missions, figured we’d be here a while, mise well be happy.” You listen to his words as you wander room to room, remembering each moment you had shared with Jake when you first looked at this place. It was a gorgeous ranch style house, white with a gorgeous porch and huge backyard and patio with a pool. It was your dream home. It had plenty of rooms, and space to entertain all of Jake’s TOP GUN buddies and yours, plus room for future children.
“You aren’t mad that I bought this place without telling you?” he asks. You turn to him. “Absolutely not Jake.” you smile at him taking his hand. “You are the most wonderful man Jake, of course I'm not mad. You make me the happiest and I can’t wait to turn this place into our home.” you say into his lips as he leans down to kiss you. “What do you say we christen the master bedroom, wife?” he smirks at you, licking his lips as he pulls you into his arms. You raise an eyebrow at him tugging on his arm, leading the way. “I’d say.” you pause looking at him with so much wonder and admiration and love. “Lead the way, husband.” you didn’t care if there was no bed, or any furniture at all; you would do him, any time, any place, any surface. That’s how much you loved this man.
It seemed like it took a while but finally you had settled into your new home, and your new routine with Jake. He was teaching with Mav and flying missions; doing exactly what he loved. You were still helping Penny with the bar. The two of you were so much in love and tonight you were about to make Jake an even happier man; he was going to be a dad. You hadn’t been feeling yourself lately so you decided to go to the doctor and it turns out you were pregnant. You and Jake hadn’t really talked much about kids other than you both wanted them someday but someday was now and you were extremely nervous to tell him.
You didn’t want to make it a big thing, just an intimate moment with you and your husband, for now anyways. So you ordered a baby flight suit and tiny little aviators wrapped everything in a box with a cute little note inside. When he came home that night you would surprise him. You cooked his favorite dinner, had his favorite beer waiting, ice cold for him. Your heart felt like it was about to pound out of your chest. You heard his key in the door. “Honey I'm home.” he called with a small laugh. “I will never get tired of saying that.” as he followed a delicious smell into the kitchen. Seeing you standing there in front of the stove stirring something bubbling in a pot, shaking your hips to some song you had playing . He wrapped his arms around you tightly. “Welcome home baby.” you say melting into his touch. He kissed gently down your neck. “I love you.” he whispers into your ear. You groan. “I love you too.” you say as you spin in his arms facing him. He leans down to kiss your lips. “What's all this?” he asks, pulling his lips slowly from yours. You smirk. “I have a little surprise for you.” you whisper. Kissing him again. “Ohhhh.” he smirks and raises an eyebrow then winks at you. You couldn’t help but laugh. “Come sit, tell me about your day.” you say as you place his plate down at his spot at the table kissing him again as he sits down.
“Babe, this is freaking delicious.” he says after his third plate. He will definitely be taking some for lunch tomorrow, making all the guys jealous. You give him a sweet smile. “I'm glad you enjoyed it.” you say. You try to get up and clear the table but he sits you back down. “Nope you sit your cute little ass right back down in that chair, I will clear the table and do the dishes.” he says kissing the top of your head as he walks by. You smirk. You loved this man so much. “Sooooo.” he says as he takes the last plate to the sink. You raise your eyebrow at him. “Yes.” you laugh. You get up from the chair and grab your neatly wrapped box. He looks at you.
“Sit.” you whisper, pulling him beside you on the couch. You hand him the box. “Go ahead.” you say nodding in his direction, giving him permission to precede. He carefully pulled the ribbon off, gently opened the box, took out the tissue paper and he stared into the box; a tiny flight suit and tiny aviators. Atop of them both a sweet message from his wife that read; “Incoming training mission, Baby Seresin on board.” he looked from the box to you. His mouth fell open. “Are you serious? You’re pregnant.” he says you can’t read him you don’t know if he’s shocked, angry, happy, scared. You shake your head yes with a nervous smile. Tears had started streaming down your cheek; happy, scared tears. Jake reached up and his hand caressed your cheek. “Oh my god baby, I'm so happy.” he says kissing your lips. You exhale a sigh of relief. He pulls you into his lap. You giggle.
“I love you so much.” he says his large hands sliding down to your belly holding them there gently. “You aren’t mad?” you ask quietly knowing that was a stupid question. “Mad? Baby why would I be made, I wanted nothing more than to start a family with you. Rather it’s now or years from now. It didn’t matter to me.” he said, kissing you again. He still hasn’t taken his hands from your belly. The pair of you lay there in silence just listening to the sound of each other’s heart beats. Finally you hear Jake whisper. “I'm going to be a dad.” he couldn’t get the smile off of his face. you smile as well. After that he had a million questions, is it a boy or girl, how far along you were, how were you feeling.” he just kept going on and on about all the things he had to do.” it was the cutest thing you had ever seen.
A few months passed and you decided you both wanted to know what you were having. You had told the doctor at previous appointments you wanted to be surprised after all you didn’t care if it was a boy or a girl as long as they were healthy. But as the days went by the more and more you wanted to know. So at the next appointment you told the doctor you wanted to know. “I knew you guys wouldn’t be able to go the whole pregnancy without knowing” she laughed. She obviously had known for a while but had respected the couple's wishes not to know. “Are you ready for this?” you both shake your heads yes, jake was squeezing your hand. You knew he had secretly been wishing for a boy, but you knew he’d be happy either way. You frankly had hoped it was a little girl. Her little fingers wrapped around Jake’s heart but like Jake you would be happy either way. You both look at the doctor. “Congratulations, it’s a boy!” she says. Jake’s eyes light up as he looks at you. “It’s a boy.” you whisper with a smile. Somehow you had already known this. “Looks like, baby boy is extremely healthy, and growing perfectly.” she adds, bringing up the ultrasound. “Oh my god, Jake, look at our baby boy..” you couldn’t stop the tears as you held tightly onto jake. He smiles down at you. He never loved you more than he did right now as you carried his son.
You leave the doctors with your ultrasound pictures. “You’re going to ask him aren't you?” you smile up at Jake, who smirks down at you. A chuckle leaves his perfect lips. He nods. Ever since you found out you were pregnant you knew Jake was planning to ask Rooster to be the baby's GodFather. “Are you okay with that?” he asks. You laugh. “Of course he’s your best friend. I wouldn’t have it any other way.” you smirk as Jake’s hand finds your bump as he helps you into the car.
The following month you had your baby shower. That’s when you let Jake announce to Rooster that he had been chosen for godfather duties. Obviously Rooster couldn’t be happier. “I can’t believe you let him pick me.” Rooster Jokes. “You’re his best friend, it’s not like I could say no.” you joked. He kissed your cheek. “You look beautiful.” he says before he leans down. “Hey Kiddo, it’s Uncle Rooster, Can’t wait to meet you and spoil you and tell you all the fun stories about your dad and mom.” you shoot him a look like don’t be scaring my unborn child. You both laugh.
Jake walked over to you. It had been a very long day and you looked exhausted. “Want me to kick everyone out?” he asks you, kissing on your neck. You melt into him. “Maybe draw you a bath, rub your feet.” he asks. You nod. “That sounds like perfection.” you whisper leaning into his body talking some of the pressure off of your own body. “Alright, I’ll kick everyone out.” he smirks as he kisses you. In seconds everyone was saying their congratulations and their goodbyes and heading out the door. You waddled your way to the bedroom, where you found Jake already drawing your bath. “Sit.” he says, patting the bed. He got down on his knees on the floor in front of you and took off your shoes. You smirk. Wild dirty images fly through your head, you were pregnant not dead. “Stop, I know what you’re thinking up there, naughty girl.” he smirks up at you. “Yeah and who made me that way.” you joke back. “And I'm damn proud of it.” he smirks again, green eyes sparkling with Mischief. “Here Lean up.” he says. He slides your dress off and helps you out of it. “Come on, let's get you in this bath.” he smirks. “Thank you.” you whisper. “For what baby.” he whispers back. “For everything. For being the best husband and friend I could ever ask for, and I know you are just going to be the absolute best dad to our little boy.” you whisper, kissing him slowly. He smirks, he knows this is a combination of hormones and exhaustion talking but he lets you say what you need to say, even though he would do absolutely anything and everything to make you happy. “I appreciate you saying that babe, I know you’re gunna be an amazing mom to all of our children.” he smirks as you shoot him a death glare as you slide into the tub. “What?” he grins childishly. “We’ll see about ALL those children, Mr.Seresin.” you laugh as you let the warm water wash over your tired body. “I love you so much.” he says as he leans down and kisses your forehead gently. He goes to leave you in peace but you grab his arm. “Stay.” you whisper quietly. He smiles. “Always.” he whispers as he strips out of his clothes and slides behind you in the tub. His long fingers wrap around your large belly and you melt into his body. His support gives you some much needed relief.
It is getting close to your due date now. Pretty soon you would be holding your little man in your arms. You couldn’t wait to see Jake with your son. Jake had a training mission today with Rooster. It was a quick mission and he’d be home before dinner but you had started to not feel too great, really uncomfortable and you knew this was it your baby was coming. Of course today of all days. Shit. you whisper as another contraction spirals through you. You were supposed to meet Penny for lunch today, you figured it was just Braxton Hicks and you’d be okay till Jake got home tonight. You’d monitor it in the meantime. Penny gives you a kiss on the cheek. “How are you feeling?” she asks, noticing how uncomfortable you looked right now. She’d recognize that look anywhere. You nod. “I'm fine, ready for this baby.” you fake a smile and you know she knows.
“Sweetie.” she says. You hum. As you take in a huge breath. “Let's get you to the hospital.” she smiles.  “No!” you demand. “Can’t go, not without Jake.” you sob. “Don’t worry we’ll get him there. But we’ve got to go.” she says, guiding you to the car. She places a call to Maverick, letting him know he needs to get Jake here ASAP, because baby Seresin is on the way.”  she looks over at you. “Breathe, sweetie we’re almost there.” she says taking your hand.
Maverick calls to get Jake back. He couldn’t reach him at first but he finally got through and Jake turned around as quick as he could. He’d land this jet on the roof of the hospital if he had too. He landed on base as quick as he could, jumping into his truck, not even caring he was still in his flight suit. He got to the hospital Rooster right behind him. “Where is she?” he calls as he’s running through the halls. Penny grabs him and takes him to your room. “Hey beautiful, I'm here.” he says, grabbing your hand. You punch him. “THIS IS ALL YOUR FAULT.” you shout at him. He laughs. “I should have warned you.” Penny laughs. “I can take it.” Jake whispers.
“You must be her husband.” the nurse smiles at the tall gorgeous pilot. He nods. “The doctor should be in soon, she’s just about ready.” the nurse smiles. “Congratulations.” Jake thanks her and he returns his attention to you. “I don't think you actually hate me sweetheart.” he smirks.  “Ohhhh no Jake Seresin, I hate you.” you smirk. “It’s most definitely your fault I'm in this position.” you add. He leans in close. “If I recall you’ve always liked all the positions I've put you in, Mrs. Seresin.” he kissed your lips and you almost forgave him. The doctor comes in interrupting the moment. “Sorry.” he says. “No, don't be.” Jake says. “Mrs.Seresin, how are we doing?” the doctor asks. You look at him dead in the face. “I'll be a lot better when you get this kid out of me doc.” you whine. “Alright, well let's get started then shall we.”  he says. The nurses come in and everything is set in motion, after what seemed like hours of screaming and crying, and pushing and cursing at Jake as he watched in awe of his beautiful wife. So proud and happy to call you his. “Alright Y|N, One more push and he should be here.” the doc says. Jake squeezes your hand “Come on babe you got this.” you squeeze his hand and within a few seconds you hear crying.
“He’s here!” Jake smiles at you, looking at you with so much love and admiration and so damn proud of you. So happy to be living this life with you! “Mr.and Mrs.Seresin your little boy.” The nurse says as she hands you the baby. Jake looks down at your perfect green eyed little baby boy. You look up at Jake and then back to your son. “He’s perfect.” you whisper. “Just like his mom.” Jake Whispers. “I love you baby so damn much!” he leans down to kiss you. “I love you too.” The nurse comes back and she takes your newborn baby to have some tests, and get weighed and make sure everything is okay. “I'm going to go update everyone, as long as you're okay.” Jake says. Kissing your sweaty gross forehead. You try to pull away but you know he doesn’t care about that at all. “I'm good Jake, I swear.” you smile at him. He gives you a kiss on the lips and heads out in excitement to update your friends.
Everyone was pacing around the waiting room as Jake walked out. He was so damn happy he couldn’t contain himself. Everyone looked at him. “Mom and baby are doing great. They took him back for some tests, just to make sure everything is all good. Once Y|N is up for some visitors. We will let some of you see the baby.” Jake says. Maverick steps up to slap him on the shoulder. “Congratulations Lt.” he says. Jake shakes his hand. “Thank you.” Jake says. “Did you guys pick a name?” Penny asks. Jake nods. “We have.” Everyone looks at him ready to find out what they have chosen for their son.
Jake looked at his friends and family before him. “August Pete Seresin.” Jake says looking at Maverick as he says it with a huge smile on his face. “Really?” Maverick says, fighting back his own tears. Jake nods yes. “You guys didn’t have to do that.” Mav says. “Of course we did. You have always been like family to us and we know that no matter what happens you will always be there for our son.” Jake says. “I don’t know what to say,'' Mav says.  “You don’t have to say anything.” Jake says with a nod as Maverick says thank you again. “When Can I see my Nephew?” Rooster smirks having enough of this sentimental bullshit. “I’ll see if they’ve brought him back and if Y|N is ready to share him yet.” Jake smirks. He walks quietly into the room as he hears you talking to August. “You are going to be so loved, little man, all these people are just going to adore you much, and love you and keep you safe, especially your daddy. He’s going to teach you so much as you grow up.” you notice Jake standing in the doorway. “Sorry to interrupt.” he says. You smile. “I think you’re only sorry I noticed you standing there while i was talking about you.” you chuckle. He sits beside you, looking down at his beautiful wife and perfect little boy. He chuckles. “Maybe but I have plenty of time to hear about all the things you love about me.” he smirks and you try to hit him but you miss.
“Did you tell them what name we’ve chosen?” you ask. He smirks. “Mav cried.” Jake says with a smile. “Are you kidding me? What a softy.” you laugh. “They said I can have visitors anytime now but only a few at a time, bring Mav and Penny first please.” you say. He nods. He turns back to look at you before he walks out the door. “What?” you say catching him staring at you. “Nothing, I just really love you and I'm really proud of you.” he says. “I love you too Jake very very very much.”
“Y|N says she’s okay with having some visitors tonight, but she would like Mav and Penny first.” Jake says. Rooster rolls his eyes. “You’ll be next, don't worry.” Jake laughs, slapping his best friend on the shoulder. Mav and Penny make their way into your room. “I heard you cried.” you laugh. Mav rolled his eyes. “Damn it Jake.” he smirks. Knowing he’d kick his ass in training. “You guys didn’t have to.” he says but you interrupt him. “Of course we did, you two have been like family to us both and we couldn’t imagine not naming our son after one of the greats.” you say as you pass your son to Maverick. “At Least you didn’t name him Maverick.” Penny Jokes. You look at her. “Trust me if Jake had his way.” you laugh. “He’s so precious, his eyes just like Jake’s.” Penny says as she holds him now. “Hopefully that’s all he got from Jake.” you laugh as he enters the room. “Hey I heard that.” he says kissing you. You smirk. Penny hands August back to Jake. “We love you both, we will let you get some rest, call us if you need anything!” Mav says as he leans down to kiss your forehead. “Proud of you kid.” he says. You catch the sight of a small tear roll down his cheek. You smirk. “Big softy.”
 “Tell Rooster it’s his turn. I know he’s dying out there.” you laugh.” Penny and Mav both laugh. “You’re up Godfather.” Mav says as he passes Rooster in the hall. Rooster almost couldn’t contain himself. He dashes into the room. “Ohh thank god he looks like Y|N” Rooster Jokes. Jake slaps him. “You two did a good job.” Rooster says as he sits down in the chair Baby in his arms. “Kids gunna be a lady killer someday, just like his dad.” Rooster Jokes. Jake looked down at you. “Yeah maybe until he finds the perfect girl that changes his whole world, and there isn’t a damn thing he wouldn’t do for her.” Jake says he still hadn’t taken his eyes off of you. You blush. Rooster Shakes his head. “Ridiculous.” he whispers in a baby voice. “Your parents are gross, and I promise I will save you from all their lovey dovey bullshit alright kid.” Rooster laughs. “Alright you’re done.” Jake says laughing, “Give me my son back before you corrupt him.” both you and Jake Laugh. Rooster passes August back to Jake carefully. “I love you both, congratulations.” he says as he winks at you before leaving. “I think we made a mistake naming him godfather.” Jake Jokes. “Hey, that was your choice not mine.” you laugh as you yawn. “Hey beautiful, get some rest, I got the little guy for a while.” Jake says, tucking you in. “I love you.” you say. “I love you too baby, thank you for giving me this perfect little man.” he says looking down at his son who is sound asleep in his arms. You wink at him. “Anytime Lieutenant.”
Jake sat down in the chair across from you as you slept. He looked down at his perfect son sound asleep. He was so tiny. “Don’t worry little man, mommy and I will protect, love you, take care of you, support you in anything and everything you want out of life. Speaking of mommy.” he paused as he looked over at you. “She’s the most beautiful woman you will ever meet, she will love you so much, we got lucky little man. I was lucky to meet her, she was so beautiful that day, just like everyday. I never thought I'd have a chance with her. But she finally gave me a one. Let me tell you kid I've never looked back a day in my life.” he whispers. He hadn’t realized you had woken up and was listening to him. “You are the best husband, you know that.” you smirk. “I try my best.”  he smirks.
You and baby August were able to go home two days later. When you arrived home you realized Jake had finished everything to get ready for baby August. You look over at him and he winks. Life with a baby was interesting at first for the couple. They weren’t sure how to navigate sleep but they finally got it worked out after a few weeks of sleepless nights everything was finally Settling down at the Seresin household.
Everything had finally calmed down and things were starting to go back to normal. Baby August was healthy and Happy and life was perfect. You and Jake we’re better than ever and enjoying the San Diego Married Life, with your beautiful baby boy, your incredible friends and a whole future ahead of you looking brighter than that San Diego sun.
Jake 'Hangman' Seresin x Reader
Warnings: Pregnant reader, SMUT! fingering, penetrative sex, fluff and a little surprise 😉
Notes: It's maybe a little OOC for Jake, but it had to be written after my soft talk with @mmurdock85 😉
And once again a huge thank you to @a-reader-and-a-writer for beta reading and for lending me her dividers. Couldn't do this without you, Vee 💜
Oh, and it takes place a few years after the movie.
Words: a little shy of 2K
Tumblr media
Opening the door to the little house near the base, he breathes a sigh of relief. Finally home. He walks past Charlie, snoring loudly on his little doggy bed. One leg twitching, like he’s chasing something, but he doesn’t wake up as Jake walks past.
“I’m cutting down on your treats. You’re the worst guard dog ever.”
“Hey, even the toughest guys need a break.”
He looks to the side and see you standing there, a wide smile on your beautiful face. How is it even possible for you to get more beautiful for each passing day?
“Hey sweetheart.”
He tries to give his best smile, but he knows you can tell something is wrong. You’re the one person who knows him the best, who can always see through all his bullshit. You cup his face, your thumbs gently caressing his cheeks.
“Are you okay, Jake?”
“Yeah, it's fine.”
He tries to shrug it off, still smiling. No need to make you worry. You always concern yourself too much and it’s usually because of him, whether it’s a mission or if he has made a new enemy.
“I know you. What is it?”
He reaches up and gently takes your hands in his, rubbing the back of your hands with his thumbs. Sighing, he looks up into your eyes, full of worry.
“I got into a… discussion and things turned a little heated. But I was right, and you know I-”
“You have to be the best.”
He just nods. You know him. Even knew him when he was at his, what some would say, worst. Maybe he could be an asshole at times, but he had the credentials to back it up. Recently made Commander and the only man in active duty to have shot down three enemy aircrafts, he knew he was good. Hell, he was more than good, he was the best. But honestly, he dialed it down the last few years. Today this new guy Jackal just got to him, and he lost it for a split second.
“But this was different. He… He called me an asshole.”
He always acts tough, but around you there’s no need. You always see right through it. But that’s one of the things he loves about you. With you, he can be himself. Still, he can’t help but feel that maybe Jackal was right. He looks up into your eyes.
“Why do you put up with me?”
“Because” you remove your hands from his and cradle his face, placing a soft kiss on his lips, “You may be too confident for your own good and, I’m sorry honey, a jackass at work. But you always leave Hangman at the base. Here… You’re just my Jake.”
You pull him into your arms, giving him a much-needed hug. He really didn’t deserve you, but he was thankful you thought so.
“My sweet and caring Jake who happens to be a pretty good cook and a damn fine lover.”
“Only ‘Damn fine’?” he asks, cocking an eyebrow at you.
“Okay, okay. You’re the best.”
He pumps his fist in the air and gives you that signature Hangman smirk. The smirk you never seem to be able to resist. He cups your cheek, giving you a soft kiss, but it’s still enough to make you moan against him. He can never get enough of you, but luckily you feel the same.
“I love you, Mrs. Seresin.”
“And I love you, Commander Seresin. And he does too.”
You look down and softly caress your bump. At 5 months pregnant, the bump is really starting to show more for each passing day. Especially in the new dresses you had- wait… Did you just say?
“Wait… he?!”
You cringe, looking sorry as you apologetically throw up your hands, when you see the shock on his face. But soon the shock is replaced by pure joy. He’s not even mad, just so excited to get a boy.
“I’m so sorry. The doctor asked and I… I caved. You know I have no backbone.”
“Yeah, I know. Took me next to nothing to get you into bed.”
You punch his shoulder. He just grins, pulling you into his embrace. Cupping your face, his beautiful blue eyes find yours.
“And luckily you never left.”
He kisses you softly, before moving his hands move down to caress your bump. The feeling of love is almost overwhelming, almost scary. He gives you a huge smile, as his eyes shine with joy.
“A boy…”
“Yeah, another Seresin man to torture me.”
Jake can already picture the little boy running around, being a menace. Unable to stop smiling, he gives you another soft kiss, looking at the bump again.
He then looks up to the little chain around your neck. Tracing the metal with his fingers before taking it off of you. There is a wedding ring in it that he gently takes off the chain and put it on. Curiously, you trace the gold band on his finger, before looking into his eyes.
“Why do you always leave your ring with me?”
“I leave my heart here every day. Might as well let you guard my ring too.”
And he really does. Leave his heart with you every day. You’re the only woman who’s ever made him feel this way and he could never imagine living without you. Moving his hand up to cup the back of your head, he pulls you closer until his lips meet yours. The kiss starts out soft, but as he deepens it, he pours every ounce of his love into it. The love for you and the love for your unborn child. Breaking away, he rests his forehead against yours, smiling wide. You giggle softly, your hands coming to rest on his chest.
“That was such a cheesy line.”
“Not as cheesy as the first one I used on you.”
“God, don’t remind me.” Giggling softly, you waddle away towards the kitchen, but he grabs your hand, stopping you. No way he would let you strain yourself.
“Nah, darling. Let me.”
You sit down on a stool by the counter as Jake gets to work in the kitchen. Taking out the vegetables, he begins chopping as he feels your eyes on him. He was a horrible cook when you first met, but he soon learned how much you loved food and even more how much you loved watching him work in the kitchen.
So he practiced. Watched countless episodes of MasterChef and failed numerous times, but like everything else in his life, he worked hard and became the best. Well, maybe not the best in this field, but pretty damned close.
“So, we gotta start talking baby names.” he says softly, looking at you over his shoulder, before he resumes chopping some onions.
“I actually have an idea. How about Bradley?”
Jake turns slowly and points the knife playfully at you, putting on a fake angry face.
“Over my dead body. I like the guy, but hell no,” he pauses, turning slowly to put the knife down. “Could you imagine if the kid grows up and wants a mustache like that?”
He shudders before laughing. Over the years, he’d actually come to like Rooster. Would even call him a good friend. But no way in hell he’d name his kid after him. Rooster would never let him hear the end of it.
“Well, you give me one then.”
Oh, he knows you’ll hate it, but since you wanna tease, he’ll tease you right back.
“Isn’t it obvious? Jake junior.”
“Oh, I love that. But only if he gets my name as his middle name.” you shoot back sarcastically, trying to keep a straight face, but he can see the way the corner of your mouth twitches softly.
“Hmm, not Jake then.”
He winks and returns to cut up some bell peppers. As he works on the food, you talk back and forth about names. Throwing another name at you, he walks to the fridge and takes out a beer and some soda, giving the latter to you. Placing a soft kiss on your hair, he returns to the cutting board.
“Oh, by the way. Bob’s coming over for dinner.”
It’s been a while since he saw Bob last, seeing as he’s been on an assignment overseas. Apparently, he was stateside again and back in Lemoore. Suddenly, it hits Jake. He looks at you, smiling.
“What do you think about Robert?”
Confused, you frown as you look at him.
“What do I think about him? I love him… Isn’t that a dumb question? He’s my brother.”
“No, I… I meant for the baby.”
A huge grin spreads on your face as you realize what he just said. Jake can’t help but smile when he sees how happy you look.
“You’d wanna name him after Bob?”
Jake lays down the knife, before walking over to you. Turning the chair so you’re facing him, he gives you a sweet smile as his hands land on your thighs, caressing them softly.
“Why not? The best damn fighter pilot as a dad and named after his uncle, the best WSO there ever was. He’ll be top of his class in no time.”
“Yeah, easy there, Hangman. Maybe he wants to follow in my footsteps.”
He just smirks. You rarely use his callsign, but he loves it when you do. He gives your thighs a gentle squeeze, not failing to notice how the touch makes you squirm.
“Nah, with that legacy, that kid will be a legend.”
“If he’s anything like his dad, he’ll be the best.”
You bite your lip, giving him an innocent look. But Jake knows there’s nothing innocent about it. He looks at his watch, before looking deep into your eyes while moving his hands under your dress, slowly moving his hands up your thighs.
“How long before Bob gets here?”
“An hour.”
You answer, breathing already strained. Moving his hands down under your thighs, he lifts you up onto the counter in one swift move with a huge, exaggerated groan, as if he just lifted a ton. You punch his shoulder.
“You are an asshole.”
“Yeah, but I’m your asshole.”
He smirks before capturing your lips in a passionate kiss. After removing your dress, he stops to take you in. Even now, as you slowly get bigger and softer, you’ve never been more gorgeous, sexier. Leaning in, he kisses down the column of your neck, pulling sweet moans from you.
He moves down to your chest, taking a nipple in his mouth. Throwing your head back, you whimper his name. They’re already so sensitive, so he can’t even imagine what it’ll be like when the baby comes. His free hand finds your core, already soaking wet for him.
“Fuck Jake, just… Please just fuck me. I need you.”
Making quick work of his belt and pants, he strokes himself a few times before pushing into you. And as he does, he looks at your face, eyes closed in pure ecstasy. You’re truly a beautiful sight and you really make him the happiest man alive.
You Know The Rules
Tumblr media
look at that stupid slutty mustache... god please answer my prayers just this once
Pairing: Finnegan(Everybody Wants Some!!) x Fem!Reader
Summary: God you hate him.
Word Count: 2K
Rating: M - mainly for drugs babayyyyy, weed, that good, otherwise it's pretty clean in these sheets(this time around)
A/N: haha. no one asked for this. but listen! all my glen powell sloots we need to remember the original. sweet daddy finnegan. mustached, shaggy haired, 80s baseball player i mean i couldn't have written a sluttier man if i tried. this movie isn't the greatest, but the music is dope, the outfits are cute, and it serves as a public service announcement that men need to start wearing crop tops IMMEDIATELY. this is a petition for men to start dressing like sluts again so i can finally be at peace. anyways this is completely and utterly self serving but the glen powell top gun resurgence just kept reminding me that this is peak glen to me. give me mustaches or give me death!
sorry that i haven't written... or literally done anything of value in an eon. my brain has given up and also i moved and am currently unemployed and am about to go travel for three months and want to write but have zero inspiration and tumblr makes me sad because everyone is so good at writing and i am a troll under a bridge. this is me trying to release the need to produce things of "value" because does that even mean anymore? i hope someone finds this a little fun because honestly i kinda did :) hugs and kisses <;33333
tell me what you think! i'm literally begging! on my hands and knees! the desperation is palpable yeesh
masterlist yay yay!!!
~~~~~
College.
What a fucking heinous place. Filled with suffocating expectations, the constant need to pretend you’re someone you’re not because of everyone else’s supposed opinions of you.
It made you want to vomit.
And yet here you were, cowering in the corner of the kitchen at this stupid, lame, awful college party. A baseball party no less. Those absolute heathens. Probably the worst category of men on this campus by about 20 miles and you were definitely counting.
The joint you haphazardly rolled in the absolutely disgusting bathroom crackles between your lips as you try to tune out every single person here and catch the steady baseline of the song playing hoping that that will somehow lull you into a state of calm.
This new weed sucked shit. All stems, all seeds, and got you high for about 30 seconds. You were going to kill Willoughby when you saw him. Honestly the only baseball player in this house you liked and even he was about to get moved right onto the shit list with the rest of the men of this house.
Your friends had badgered you endlessly all week to ask Willoughby for the invite, not that you really need to even ask him. Girls? More than one? The baseball boys were already salivating like it was their last meal on death row.
The standards in this place were in the fucking basement.
Some would call you a pessimist. Angry, bitchy, snippy, negative, the whole gambit and they might be right. But college was a fucking weird ass place that made your skin crawl and your anxiety spike and all you wanted to do was smoke your green, pass your classes, and watch your cartoons in peace, please and thank you.
And then his voice cut through your slow building haze like a serrated knife on a chalkboard. Made of sandpaper.
“Sweetheart! I thought Willoughby mentioned you’d be here, and why am I not surprised you’re toking it up alone in our kitchen, my favorite little stoner weirdo.”
Finnegan.
The absolute ultimate fuck.
Mustached, wide shoulders, shaggy blonde, crisp baby blues, he was everything your vagina yearned for until he opened his stupid mouth. And of course that was just as pretty as the rest of him too.
You’d met him for the first time freshman year. Fresh faced and thinking the world was truly your oyster, he’d popped into your life in intro to philosophy and swept you away with his silky, fancy words and the fact that he looked like that.
He’d invited you to the first baseball party you’d ever gone to and made you a special promise that he would be your knight in shining armor for the night. That he’d be waiting for your arrival, was counting down the minutes till you showed up at his door and he could dance the night away with you.
That was until you saw him sucking face with Tracy. Who was also in your intro to philosophy class.
Obviously, you’d hated him to his core ever since.
But for some reason he’d stuck around. Always kept tabs on you, always had a class with you, always found you at any party, bar, disco, literally fucking anywhere and it made you want to tear your hair out.
He was your pretty boy kryptonite and you needed him to leave you the fuck alone.
“Oh Finny. Finny, Finnegan, fuckhead. You know I thought I’d somehow be able to avoid you tonight but it seems like my stalker persists no matter the obstacles.”
Smoke trickles from between your clenched teeth and he has the audacity to stare at your lips and grin.
Fucking grin!!!
“You wound me princess. Ain’t even gonna share that little pinner of yours, I mean the absolute cruelty of it all.”
The grins still blazing on his lips but in Finn fashion he has to play up his part.
Clutching at his pearls, leaning against the kitchen counter like you’d just stabbed him straight through. Your eyes roll so far back in your head they almost launch themselves out of your skull.
“No Finn, I’m not gonna share with the likes of you. Go find Will and get him to roll you one, he’s the one I got the weed from anyways. Or maybe go find some other poor unsuspecting girl to do the deed for you, but you ain’t getting shit from me. You know the rules sweet Finny: ass, cash, or grass and god only knows I ain’t taking any of those three from you.”
You regret those last few words the second they enter the air between you.
Because Finnegan’s eyes drop straight to your mouth again and now he’s crowding you into the corner of the counter.
“Oh sweetheart if you just let me show you what this ass can do I think you would be singing quite a different tune. You think I’m all bravado and show but you and I both know the two of us could be quite a duo. I just know you’re absolutely unreal beneath that veneer of hatred you slap on.”
He’s still staring at your lips, the joint hanging limply between them as you try and control your breath and not cough up a lung.
Two can play this fucking game.
You take a thick drag, the tip burning bright orange and crackling like cinders and his eyes only deepen in shade. The smoke curls out and up into your nose and he stares at you his jaw dropping a little slack as you play him like the fucking fiddle he is.
“Finn.” Your index finger trails up his arm as you ash the joint in the sink, and you can feel the muscles of his bicep twitch with the contact. “If you think I’m gonna let you touch me you’ve lost your god damn mind. Now if you’ll excuse me, I’m gonna go find some peace and quiet. Away from you.”
Your voice is sticky sweet and he barely registers that you’re telling him off for the millionth time tonight until you’re traipsing out of the kitchen at lightning speed before you do something else you’ll regret.
He got too fucking close this time around. You let him get too fucking close.
Your feet stomp quick up the stairs to the only safe place you’d ever been able to find in this house.
The roof. That blissful open space, like the crispest breath of fresh air it tasted almost minty. Your hands dig into your pockets looking for your weed, your lighter, and your rolling papers-
Fuck.
Of course you’d forgotten papers, predicable as always and fucking annoying as hell and you’re about to turn back down the stairs when your eyes land on something sitting on the windowsill.
Finn’s wood pipe.
You loved to hate it but it was his calling card. Stupid and quirky and so perfectly him that the sight of it made you heart twist just a little.
Not that you would ever fucking admit that.
Well beggars can’t be chooser as they say.
It’s deceptively crisp out on the roof as you shuffle around other groups till you get to your super secret corner on the far side of the house. No one ever seems to want to venture this far and you could smoke in peace and tranquility as the rest of the party raged somewhere far, far away.
The bowls packed, green just catching a smolder and you have to admit the stupid Sherlock Holmes pipe is kinda fun. Maybe you’d leave a fresh bowl packed for sweet Finn as a secret thank you gift.
Maybe this weed was stronger than you thought.
“Alrighty first you don’t share your joint, then you verbally assault me in my own house, and now you’re smoking out of my pipe? You really are trying to start a fight with me this evening now aren’t ya?”
Your eyes are red rimmed and your brain has that pleasant haze coating every synapse and you can’t find it in you anymore to really fight Finn right now. The stars look too damn good and the tree has hit too damn deep to let your hackles rise.
“You know maybe I’ve been giving you a bit of a hard time, but you damn well deserve it.” You smile around the pipe as you take another drag, but this time you pass it to Finn as he sits down just a little closer than usual.
His fingers snag against yours as you pass it and you both flinch a bit at the contact, sparkles zipping up your arms.
He stays quiet this time around, pulling puffs as you both watch people flit around the grass below you, the party continuing into this seemingly never ending night.
Friday’s, they really were something.
Your knees knock, fingers catching again as he passes the pipe back to you. Another pull fills your lungs and you lean back, back, back until your back presses down on the cool paneling of the roof and you let the smoke drift up and away among those pretty little stars.
“Finn you can just be so fucking annoying sometimes, I just wanna shut you up for like five seconds so we can all take a fucking breather.”
He laughs at that. Real and deep, curling around the base of your spine as he turns to stare down at you and the feeling spreads all the way to your fingertips. All the way to your toes.
“I’m well aware, but it’s sorta a part of my charm. I’m just waiting for it to final start charming you.”
Your eyes click to his, haze lifting for a split moment, and his eyes twinkle almost brighter than the stars.
“That’s such a fucking line and you know that shit doesn’t work on me. Fool me once and all of that jazz.” But you can’t stop staring at him and now his eyes color puzzled, a little hazy as he tries to decipher your words. “Oh come on, freshman year? You invited me to the party with all your fancy little words that you love to spin for me to only find you eating Tracy’s lips straight off her face? Honestly she still talks about that night to this day so I guess in a weird way kudos to you but man that did sting a bit.”
You chuckle around another pull and you go to pass it back but he’s clearly no longer interested in that. He seems very intent on memorizing every detail of your face under the stars and you can’t help but wiggle a little under his hyper focused gaze.
“I-I didn’t know that you were there that night. McReynolds told me you’d left with some dude and Tracy was more than willing to fill in that blank.”
Oh fuck.
You’re both just staring at each other as moment after moment click like puzzles pieces. Every snippy comment, every lingering glance, every class, every time you just happened to run into each other all no longer strange coincidences and some secret hatred. Every little moment stitching itself together till it left just you and Finn.
And there’s that fucking grin again.
But it’s softer this time, a little less sleazy and a little more lovely and now you’re sure his eyes are brighter than any star.
Your own lips tick up with a soft, nervous smile.
His fingers card between yours and he brings your knuckles up to his lips, stupid mustache tickling your skin in ways that make you shiver.
“I feel like nows the time to return to my earlier question since you finally shared some of that green with me, so what do I owe ya? Ass, cash, or more grass?”
You snort into the air between you and his grin splits into a megawatt smile and you finally let yourself tumble head first into kissing stupid, idiot, fuckhead Finnegan.
“Ass, 100%.”
~~~~~
tell me what you think if anyone is actually reading this because i'm bored and this site is lonely and i just want some weirdo friends who also think mustaches are peak sexiness. alright i need to go to sleep the psychosis is taking over :P
Masterlist Prologue
1 year, 4 months later
Avis wasn’t surprised when her fiancé received a “save the date” to the Benjamin-Mitchell wedding several months ago. It made sense, Jake was also a fighter pilot. Knowing the date, Avis was able to avoid being his plus one at all costs. Working for a large firm kept her busy and she thanked her lucky stars for it. When she found a conference the same weekend as the wedding, she sent her boss a pitch to present, and when she got the thumbs up, she only felt a little bad about lying to Jake about why she couldn’t attend the wedding with him.
It would also ensure that she kept Jake in the dark about who her father is. After multiple other spats between the two of them, she blocked Pete and Penny on all social media platforms and removed both of their numbers from her phone. If he wanted to make irrational decisions, then so could she. Jake believed her when she told him she was estranged from her family; she didn’t like to speak about them and shut down all efforts to broach the topic. The only person close to her father who knew about their relationship was Bradley, and she had enough sisterly dirt on him to make sure he remained tight-lipped.
Avis feels for her dad, she really does. But it’s difficult to get over her feelings of betrayal. Her heart hurts for their now non-existent relationship, and on particularly hard nights she’s almost tempted to reach back out. She misses the comfort her father used to bring her in her many times of need, but the trust was gone. He had made a promise to her all those years ago, and he had broken it.
The week of the wedding comes quickly, and it takes all of Avis’s energy at the conference not to think about it to the point where she isn’t even sure she’s absorbing what the other presenters are talking about anymore. While she’s suffering, at least Jake is enjoying himself, even if it’s with bachelor activities. He even sent her a few pictures here and there, including one with the groom. Her father. The pangs of hurt roil in her chest when she sees it in her camera roll. Yes, her camera roll. Because despite her best efforts, she couldn’t help but save the picture to her phone.
The ceremony and reception are set to happen the evening she flies home from the conference, so she has a perfectly reasonable excuse to not be able to attend, aside from being out of town in the first place.
The red-eye flight Avis catches gives her no down time between the conference and having to rush to the airport. She texts Jake that she’s about to board and leaves it at that. She doesn’t expect Jake to be home when she gets there. Although the wedding venue is local, everyone has decided to stay at a hotel close to the venue to avoid driving home late at night. The next day, there’s supposed to be an afterparty at the Hard Deck, so Avis knows that Jake will be out of the house for a majority of that day as well.
There’s something about flying, though, that has always helped Avis clear her head — blame her dad for that one. Her flight home allows her time to decompress and think about her situation. By the time the plane has entered its final descent, Avis isn’t entirely sure she’ll  ever be able to reconcile with her dad. She tries not to care, but sometimes it eats away at her soul more than she’s willing to admit. And all of it is made worse by the simple fact that she wishes she could tell Jake the truth about it all, but she knows it’s best kept under wraps.
Arriving home the next morning, the bags under Avis’ eyes are a sign that she needs at least a week of sleep, if not more. In the year or so that she’s been with Jake, though, she’s found that she sleeps significantly better when he’s next to her, so she knows that at best, all she can do is take a nap and wait for him to come home. She wastes no time in setting her bags in their shared bedroom, changing into a pair of leggings and one of Jake’s old shirts before crawling between the sheets.
A loud ringing wakes Avis several hours later, the mid-day sun shimmering through the window and casting long shadows. Groggy-eyed and sore with tiredness, Avis does a quick search for her phone, finding it on the nightstand where she must have dropped it at some point before closing her eyes. She doesn’t check the caller ID, although she probably should have.
“Hello?” Her voice is deep and low, the clearest evidence to the caller that she hadn’t been entirely awake when they called.
“You need to come get your man, Nicole.”
“Bradley?” He was the only person who ever called her by her middle name.  It used to bother her, but she grew to understand Bradley’s attachment to it somewhere along the line as they grew up together.
A soft groan escapes Avis’ lips, her free hand coming to swipe down the length of her face. “What did he do, Bradshaw?”
The chuckle on the other side should tell her exactly what Jake has been up to. “He’s drunk as hell. He’s got to get home somehow.”
“Why can’t you drive him?”
“Nobody here is entirely sober.”
Avis is about to reach for her keys when the realization hits her. If she goes to get Jake, it’s extremely likely that she’ll run into her father or his bride. More awake now, she sits up in the bed, gritting her teeth. “If this is a ploy, Bradshaw, I will never let you live this down.”
The other end of the line crackles with hoots and hollers, and she almost thinks that he’s forgotten he’s on the phone in the first place. Not sober, indeed. “Look, I promise I’ll do my best to make sure you aren’t seen, Nic. But if Jake doesn’t come out — and you know how he gets when he’s playing darts— you’ll have to come in and get him.” His voice becomes somber at the notion that Avis actually didn’t come to the wedding, and that she really didn’t want to be involved.
Sighing heavily, Avis flips the sheets from her body. What she’s wearing will suffice, although she needs to throw on a bra and some shoes. “I’ll be there in a few. Don’t let him get any drunker.” Bradley knows that this isn’t a request, especially from the tone of her voice.
“Yes ma'am. I’ll see you soon.” With that, the call ends.
Avis isn’t in a rush to find the two items she needs to put on. She knows that, at any rate, Bradley will do his damnedest to get Jake outside to the parking lot and into her car. At the same time, she knows how stubborn Jake is, and that him being drunk will likely only make it worse. She pulls a different shirt from one of her dresser drawers, deciding that she should probably look at least somewhat decent if she was going to possibly interact with others. She slips on her sandals before heading out the door, car keys in hand.
The drive to the Hard Deck isn’t very familiar for her. Avis avoided the area at all costs, and had only been there a handful of times when she was younger, before Penny ever owned it. Pulling into the parking lot, Avis isn’t surprised to find it nearly full. Her dad knows a lot of people, and she’s sure a popular girl like Penny does, too. Finding a spot, another sigh travels through her lungs before she texts Bradley that she’s outside and waiting.
The chat bubbles pop up but quickly go away, and Avis isn’t sure if he’s going to reply or not. She sits in the car for what feels like an eternity, staring out at the azure hued waves washing away the sand on the beach. Moments later, a loud ping from her phone alerts her to Bradley’s reply.
Bradley: Sorry, Nic. He’s not coming out without a fight
Avis: Tell him I’m not wearing a bra
Bradley: Eeeeewww!
Bradley: Nope. Not gonna happen.
Avis: Please?
Bradley: Man-up and come get him before he does something stupid(er). I’ll try to distract Mav
Avis: Did you just call me a man?
Bradley: We call Phoenix a MAN!
Avis: Wat?
Bradley: Phoenix is the manliest man of all of us
Bradley: I’m genuinely surprised Mav didn’t ask her to be his best man
Bradley: Because she is
Bradley: THE best man
Avis: I’m showing this to her when you’re all sober.
Bradley: You would not!
Avis: Too late. I’m screenshotting it as we speak
Bradley: …
Bradley: Stop stalling
Bradley: Come get your mans
Avis: Noooo
Avis: Just drag him out here. You know I don’t want to go in there
Bradley: Aids
Bradley: AVIS*
Bradley: FUCCK
Bradley: I’m going to walk across this bar and distract Mav so you can do your covert fiancé retrieval shit. Whether you use that to your advantage or not is on you
Avis: Wow
Avis: Big words for a drunk guy
Bradley: Fuck you
Bradley: You coming or not?
Avis: No thanks, I’m good on that first one. I’ll be in there in a sec, gonna throw up out of anxiety real quick
Avis’ dentist was going to hate her by the time this entire ordeal was over with. Her teeth ground tightly against each other as she exited the vehicle, slamming the door so hard someone else would have thought she really, really, hated the car. Her feet scrape against the gravel, the soft breeze coming in from the ocean doing nothing to cool her down. Avis didn’t have a chance to brace herself for this. She isn’t prepared to any extent, and doesn’t know if she ever could have been were this to occur at a later point in life.
She wants to swing the door open with all the force only possessed by a mad woman, but she’s trying to fly under the radar. Instead, she slips through the door and finds the bar only mildly packed with people. Some have converged outside on the patio at the back of the building, and she guesses that’s where Jake must be, since she can’t find his golden hair amongst the inside crowd. The worst part of it is that she doesn’t see her dad or Penny, either, which means they’re also likely outside.
Avis pulls her phone from her pocket, sending Bradley another message.
Avis: I’m inside. If you can get him in here, I’ll handle the rest.
The read receipt comes seconds later. She doesn’t want to go any further than she has to, so she glues herself to the bar, leaning against it coolly. Her attire doesn’t exactly match everyone else’s but it hardly matters since she isn’t going to be there for long. Another ping brings the worst case scenario:
Bradley: He literally will not budge even though I told him you were here. I’ll try to distract Mav and Penny, but you need to be quick. Sorry <3
Making her way towards the patio door, Avis peeks out the window. She can see the group of Jake’s aviator friends, with him standing at the edge. He’s laughing up a storm, gripping Coyote’s shoulder hard enough he could probably break it. There are empty beer bottles and shot glasses scattered throughout the high-top tables, which helps explain why he’s so intoxicated. Avis’s eyes avert to the corner of the window, revealing Bradley having a very animated conversation with her father and Penny, both of them facing away from the group. They seemed engrossed in whatever he was talking to them about, so this is it. Her opportunity to grab Jake and run.
Slipping past the door, Avis beelines it to Jake, her hand landing gently on his bicep, but it takes a conscious effort. Jake immediately looks down at her, a bright, goofy smile adorning his handsome features when he realizes it’s her. “What are you doing here baby?” His words are slurred a bit, and Avis can tell that he wasn’t exactly expecting her to walk through the doors, no matter how much Bradley had tried to convince him she was coming to pick him up.
Giggling softly, Avis gives his arm a gentle tug. “I came to pick you up, you big lush. We need to go, though. I've still got some things to handle at the house.”
Jake scoffs playfully, fully turning towards Avis and wrapping her in his arms. “Why don’t you stick around, baby? Hang around a little bit, talk to some of my friends? I’m sure they’d all love to meet you,” Jake asks, laughing. “Oh!” It’s like a switch flips. “The bride and groom! I need to introduce you to them too!”
A rush of absolute fear encompasses Avis, and the anxiety of having to face her father sets in. It’s everything she’s trying to avoid. She shakes her head, ignoring the curious looks that Coyote and a couple of the other guests give her. “Maybe another day, honey. You’re drunk, and we have work tomorrow. It’s best we get you home.”
Jake’s smile turns into a child-like frown, feigning a sourness. “Since when’re you an introvert, Avi?”
A soft groan moves past Avis’ lips. “Jake, we can talk about this later. Get in the car.”
“Why'd you wanna go home so bad?”
Avis drops her hand from Jake’s arm, her fingers now balling into fists. “I can meet them another time, Jake. They’re busy with their guests, and I’m not adding another person to their roster.”
“Please, baby?” he asks, grabbing Avis’s hand. “I promise I’ll go without a fight if we just go and say goodbye.”
Time for evasive maneuvers. “I wanna suck your dick.” Jake’s eyes go wide. “Get in the car.”
“Gross,” Coyote says to Jake’s side.
Jake shoots him a cheeky grin. “You’re just jealous.”
“So jealous,” Avis says, trying to hurry the conversation along. “Baby, get in the car.”
When arms wrap tight around her waist and Jake burrows into the crook of her neck, Avis is sure she’s won. “God, I love you,” Jake mumbles, his lips brushing over sensitive skin. “Almost as much as the bride and groom love each other. C’mon. I’m not leaving until you meet ‘em.”
Avis tries to wriggle out of his hold, glowering at him. “I’m not arguing with you about this. We need to leave. Now.”
“Avi,” Jake whines. Unfortunately for Avis, Jake is more stubborn than any mule on the planet. Which meant it was time to take out the big guns — well, big for drunk Jake.
“I’m taking the blowjob off the table at the count of three, Jacob.”
“Baby, don’t be like that.”
“Three…”
He pouts. “You’ll love them.”
“Two…”
“I just want you to meet my friends.”
“Jus’ go home Bagman,” Bradley’s trying to help, but it washes over Avis like cold water. If Bradley is here, he isn’t distracting the bride and groom.
“Fuck off, Roo. Y’can’t tell me what to do.” Jake’s voice is louder than it was a minute ago and worry lances straight to Avis’ gut as she tries to hush him.
“Jake, honey-” Avis shifts from trying to get Jake out of the bar to trying to diffuse the situation, but he’s faster than she anticipates. Before she can even finish her sentence, he’s got her arm in his grip, tugging her towards them. The sandals that she’d slipped onto her feet when she left the house have next to no grip on the concrete, and he’s practically hauling her over to her father and Penny who, by some miracle, still haven’t caught sight of her.
“Jacob Seresin, you fucking unhand me right this moment!” Avis whisper-shouts, pulling against him.
Stopping in his tracks, Jake turns to her. He’s barely sobered up from their drinking games during brunch, but it’s the look on Avis’ face that tells him he’s crossed a line. Looking around, he sees that some of the others are watching them, seeing him practically manhandle his fiancée in public.
“Sorry, I-” His face is somber, like he really is realizing what he’s done. Any words he’s going to say are halted by someone patting his shoulder, standing next to him.
“What’s going on here?” Maverick peeks around Jake’s shoulder, his stomach dropping to his feet at the sight before him. His daughter, his pride and joy, standing in front of him, a death glare sent in the direction of one of his students. He had been on the receiving end of that same stare multiple times, and he did not envy Jake Seresin. But what confused him the most was her actual presence. They hadn’t spoken in over a year, and she purposely didn’t come to his wedding. What was she doing here? “Avis?”
Avis redirects her glare toward her father, her jaw set in stone. A low anger boils in the pits of her stomach, and it takes everything in her not to say words she might regret. In the corner of the patio, Bradley rakes a hand down his face, his head thrown back a bit and curls a drunken mess. This is exactly what they had been trying to avoid.
Her fiancé and father are both staring at her, each of them experiencing different emotions. The clicking of heels jolts her from her stupor, and when Penny comes from behind her father, Avis can’t help but let the anger rise higher. Bradley comes up behind her, grabbing her shoulders, steering her gently away from the group. Jake unfreezes then, following closely behind them.
“Rooster? What’s going on?” The sequence of events seems to have knocked some sobriety back to Jake’s senses, and he can tell that Avis is mad. But it’s more than that. He’s never seen her just stop working before. He can’t tell if she’s mad that he wouldn’t come with her, or if it’s the fact that he practically manhandled her through a crowd of strangers.
Avis only stops glaring at both men when Bradley has her turned far enough to make the angle weird, then she takes long strides toward the crashing waves. She huffs. This isn’t how she wanted to see her father again, nor reveal to him that she’s living in the area. Rooster stops halfway behind her, holding his arm in front of Jake to stop him as well. He turns to face his friend, and he almost feels sorry for him.
“Avis has a complicated relationship with her family. You know that, right?” Bradley asks Jake, turning back to watch Avis’ figure grow smaller in the distance.
Nodding, Jake looks over to his mustached friend. “Yeah, why?”
Sighing deeply, Rooster hates to be the one to tell Jake the truth, but he knows that Avis would have an even harder time telling him. “Mav’s her dad.”
A brick wall hits Jake. He nearly gives himself whiplash looking back towards the Hard Deck to see Mav, Penny and the others gathered, having a quiet conversation, no doubt about the situation at hand. He knew her last name, he just hadn’t associated it with Maverick’s. It makes sense now, the sleek, black hair and captivating, fiery green eyes. The devilish smile when they were play-fighting on the couch about what to have for dinner or what to watch for the evening. The toothy grin she gives him when she laughs really hard at his dumb jokes.
The salt water is almost licking at Avis’ toes when she finally stops walking. Hot tears streak down her cheeks, arms crossed over her chest as she hugs herself. She doesn’t know what to do. Everything is happening all at once. The realization that she really did give up her relationship with her dad over this. His love for another woman. But why? What had Penny ever done to her besides make her dad happy? She was happy with Jake. It was love, written into two different stories for two all-too-similar people. She can’t fathom herself, her decisions, or her mentality around it all.
Strong arms are suddenly encasing her in a warmth she’s familiar with, and Avis isn’t quite sure where she wants to be anymore. Jake rests his chin on her shoulder, pressing a gentle kiss to her cheek. They share a moment of silence before Jake speaks up. “Why don’t we go home, rest up, and we can talk about this after we both get home from work tomorrow?” It’s a kind suggestion, one that Avis is grateful for. Jake always knows what to do to bring her back down from the clouds.
Nodding, she pulls away from him, running a shaky hand down his arm, her fingers slipping between his own. The ring on her left hand feels heavy now, as though it holds the weight of the world on her finger. The careful balance she’d had between her past and future had been shattered.
The journey to the car feels too long for Avis’ preference, but she’s glad when she slides into the driver's seat. She steadies herself, attempting to brace for the coming days she knows will be fueled with truths revealed and secrets exposed. Jake thinks that he knows her like the back of his hand, but he’s not ready for what’s coming for him.
Just Another Thing – [2]
WALT ‘FINN’ FINNEGAN X READER/OC
Tumblr media
Summary: God help anyone who might’ve thought a nice, stable relationship might bring some kind of change to Walt Finnegan’s usual mischief and mild-hedonism. God especially help them if they also thought a girlfriend would provide any sort of calming influence over him.
She definitely influenced him, anyone could tell you that, unfortunately just never in any way that could even remotely be described as 'calm’.
Warnings: cussing, mentions of and talk of sex, sexy body parts, ect. reader/OC is named Kimberly/Kimber, but it is still written in second person and her name shouldn’t come up very often.
Tumblr media
Finn wakes with a start, the unfamiliar room around him momentarily sending him down a rabbit hole of confusion and doubt, right up until you walk through the door, which pushes him toward a separate spiralling hole, making him suddenly recall every detail of last night with startling clarity.
When Beverly had said you were the one girl on campus who’d put up with him, he hadn’t expected you to also be the one girl on campus who gave as good as she got behind closed doors, too.
Finn isn’t exactly shy about his sexploits, he’s slept with plenty of women, but generally, even the most enthusiastic ones weren’t exactly the best of lays, if he could be so crass to say. It wasn’t that they were particularly bad or that he didn’t have a good time, it’s more owing to the fact that Finn was somewhat unlike most men his age, in that he had always made a point of educating himself, on many topics, but especially on sex.
Especially when it involved the many different ways to please a woman.
The girls he’d slept with in the past could say whatever they wanted about him as a person, and they frequently did, but he’d never, not once ever, left a woman unsatisfied. It was important to him, for a reason beyond simple masculine pride that he’d never really bothered to interrogate.
At the end of the day he could give whatever reason he wanted, he doubts any woman would really care. Ideally, he’d have them too distracted to care. Generally though, his partners were not as well versed, meaning he gave, and he always gave happily, but for the most part he had to take care of his own pleasure, which wasn’t exactly a chore. Hell, that was half the reason he was doing it in the first place.
You on the other hand…
Finn swears he nearly gets rock hard just thinking about you last night, but he has no time to indulge, because in the present moment you’ve appeared as if on cue. He’s not certain you realise he’s awake yet, which mostly works for him. He internally grumbles a little as he catches sight of the time, before quickly shutting his eyes again when you near. He really hadn’t meant to sleep over. He’d planned to be up and out shortly after you’d fallen asleep, as per usual, but in all sincerity, you’d fucked him so damn good, so thoroughly, that he can’t even remember falling asleep in the first place.
Finn can’t help himself as he lies there, hearing you so closely shuffling about, he allows himself to peek at you, simultaneously delighted and regretful when he lays eyes on you.
He shouldn’t be here, stealing glances at you as you dress, he should have stuck to routine and left last night. But you really were amazing, not just in bed, but your flirting, your banter, your honesty, even if it was hard for him to read it as such at first.
Finn trails off then, thinking about how great a time he had with you in only a few hours, and finds himself imagining a whole little scenario where he gets to see you again after this, maybe actually take you on that date he’d promised… it sounded nice, in theory, but Finn writes it off immediately. That wasn’t his bag, and really, who was he to take you out beyond this chance meeting? He wasn’t exactly boyfriend material, and he also wasn’t interested in wasting anyone's time. He didn’t want to do that to you, but more importantly he’s pretty sure he’d get a baseball to the head if he did. Or in the crotch.
As Finn thinks about how he’d really like to talk to you more, maybe ask about your major, your team, he realises what he’s doing and scrubs all further thoughts out, quickly snapping himself back to reality.
A reality in which maybe the most beautiful, sexy, and clever woman he’d met on campus, or off, is packing up her sports bag for what is likely an 8:00 AM class, something that Finn should also be doing at this very moment, and not childishly pretending to be asleep, resigning himself to being late.
“If the sun is bothering you, I can close the curtains,” your voice rings out then, nearly causing him to jump. That was another thing about you, too, until last night Finn has always had a harsh vendetta against anything that could even remotely be considered ‘honky tonk’ or typically southern, he’d even avoided taking home a girl once or twice solely because her cowboy boots had irritated him so much, only now, all of a sudden he felt nothing but pure, soppy, affection when he hears the extremely thick east Texas twang in your voice.
He firmly believes that only you can make such a heavy drawl sound so delicate and classy. He’s unable to picture you in any kind of small, dinky little town, so instead decides to imagine that you come from one of those hoity-toity neighbourhoods they had up in Dallas, which makes nothing but perfect sense to him.
Finn finds himself hurriedly blinking his eyes open in reaction to your words, before remembering that he’s supposed to be faking sleep to avoid you. You look over at him from your neat little desk, your huge duffle bag now open on your chair, which you appear to be packing several deflated balls into.
He reminds himself that you were on the College’s Volleyball team, something he hadn’t actually known existed until yesterday, but rejoices in the good news by recalling what you looked like at the park in your tight little shorts, your knee and elbow pads somehow really doing it for him. Finn rubs his eyes and groans at the fact he was probably never going to see or speak to you after this, let alone see you in those little shorts again.
“Huh?” he replies dumbly to your question, looking over at the window when you nod to it. He realises that your room might be the worst in the house, with the way the blazing Texas sun is already assaulting every inch of the space.
“I always leave the curtains open on school days, I like waking up with the sun, but I can close them if you want to sleep more?” you explain. Finn shakes himself more awake, the rouse well and truly over now, and awkwardly pulls himself from your admittedly very warm and very comfortable bed.
“Oh, no, don’t worry about it, I’ve gotta get up now anyway,” he tells you, clearing his throat and scratching the back of his neck, already practising avoiding you by refusing to look your way, telling himself it’s for his own good.
You chortle, but shrug and shake your head, before going back to packing your duffle.
Finn lingers uncomfortably next to your bed, now wondering if he had maybe upset you by staying. Not knowing what else to do, he focuses on your duvet, beginning to fiddle with it so your bed at least looked neat, and in the back of his mind, hoping it might help you forget he was ever here in the first place. No such luck, his movement causing you to look up at him properly, dropping a deflated volleyball and waving out a hand to stop him.
“Oh! don’t you worry about that! Those definitely need to go in the wash later,” you inform him, a note of wryness in your voice as you reference last night’s activities. Finn drops his hands away from the blankets at your bequest, also dropping his gaze once more now that you’ve stepped even closer and are focused solely on him.
Your attention makes him aware of his state of undress, only a pair of underwear covering him, and he happily starts to busy himself with collecting his clothes from the floor where he'd tossed them hastily many hours ago, only to find them folded neatly on the window bench. He realises you really must rise with the sun, and wonders how many hours you’d been up already.
“Last night was a lot of fun, by the way. There are definitely far worse ways to soil some good sheets,” you speak up again, a laugh accompanying your heavy accent this time.
Finn finds he can’t refuse you his attention now that you’re asking for it, forgetting all about evading you as much as he can get away with, instead looking over at you as he dresses. Oddly, he finds his smile is nowhere near as tight or rueful as he feels.
“I’m glad,” he says without much thought, before instantly panicking when your face falls despondently.
“You didn’t enjoy it?” You ask worriedly, the prospect his reply presents clearly upsetting you, but despite telling himself that continuing to engage will only make disengaging even harder, it’s all completely in vain as he hurries to comfort you.
“What? No, no, I definitely enjoyed it,” he assures you quickly, glad when you seem to relax at his affirmation. Still, you seem a little more reserved than before, than you had been last night, which makes his skin itch uncomfortably. “Think I enjoyed it so much my brain is still scrambled,” he goes on, in an effort to stop the prickling sensation.
It works, your face breaking into an endearingly proud grin, shortly before the itching disappears. You chortle a little and give a small shrug, going back to your bag packing.
“Well, I’ve put in a lot of work to have exclusively great sex,” you tell him. “I mean, you can’t expect to spike a volleyball perfectly without practice, so why should sex be any different?” you continue, with another laugh and a shake of your head.
Finn doesn’t know why he feels so surprised at your statement. Maybe it’s just that he’s never heard a woman so casually admit to sleeping around. Then again, if men got to, then why shouldn’t you too?
Beverley could say what she wanted about the way he used discussions around the feminist movement, as well as women’s rights as a whole, just to get laid, but Finn had read all those books she’d sarcastically kept lending him, and he genuinely thought the matter to be worthwhile.
Okay, so sue him if he happens to also on occasion use the very legitimate talking points of women’s sexual liberation in his attempts to pick up women, but it's not like that meant he didn’t really believe in what he was saying!
Finn is about to open his mouth to formulate some kind of a reply when you glance at the time and let out a soft gasp.
“Oh shit, I’m going to be late!” you baulk, quickly pulling the zip of your duffle bag closed and hauling it over your shoulder. “I’ve got to go, feel free to use the shower, just close my door when you leave!” you hurriedly ramble, shoving your feet into a pair of sneakers. Finn is still blinking with his mouth halfway open when you call out a last goodbye and disappear out the door.
He showers, dresses, and is about to leave when he realises he hadn’t closed your door. He considers for a moment, at the bottom of the stairs, just leaving anyway, but he can’t bring himself to do it, so he rushes back up, closes your door with a quiet click, and then at last all but flees from the shared house.
“Noticed you never came home last night,” Dale slides into the seat next to Finn at the lunch table, and wiggles his eyebrows teasingly. Finn simply eyes his friend, and takes another bite of whatever it is the school liked to call food.
“Hooked up with the girl I was talking to all night.” He tells him simply. “Fell asleep after, only got out this morning when she left,” he goes on after another bite. Dale stares at him, a frown pulling over his features.
“So…” he prompts, causing Finn to look up at him again and shrug.
“So what?”
“So why do you sound so troubled? Was it not good? She was hot as hell man, no way it was that bad,” Dale insists, making Finn at last drop his fork to discuss properly.
“No she was good, it’s just…” he trails off and tries to figure out his own soured mood. Normally he’d have no issue talking up such a good night, especially considering you were good, but he can’t help but linger on one tiny little fact. “I don’t know, it’s like, this morning there was no ‘when will I see you again’, no care in the world it was just a one night thing, she’s not like other girls, you know?”
Dale blinks at him like he’s a moron.
“Okay? I’m not seeing your problem here?” he says, frown even deeper now. “Isn’t that perfect?”
Finn balks.
“No! She’s perfect! You don’t get it, I think I want to see her again, this girl is unbelievable!” He protests, sounding mildly desperate but he doesn’t care. He looks away from his friend, and out at the grass. The cafe he’d chosen for lunch sits right opposite the library, and normally he’d have spent his break scoping out the cute girls who’d sit studying under a tree or whatever it is he normally did, but today he’d barely even taken note.
“Man, not you too!” Dale groans in exasperation beside him, quickly digging into his own lunch as if this topic isn’t worth continuing. “First Jake, now you… actually you know what that’s fine, you hook up with that Kimberley chick, leave me with all the other cute girls…”
Finn had stopped listening about halfway through Dale’s tirade, how could he possibly pay attention to it when right there, through the window of the library, he’s spotted you, sitting at a table for four, a stack of books in front of you, your pen writing diligently on some page in front of you.
“You want the rest of my soda?” Finn asks blindly, already getting up. Dale protests, but Finn doesn’t even hear him, simply grabs his lunch tray, places it in the returns bay, and legs it across the grass as fast as he can.
He slows down upon entering the library of course, smooths down his hair, his moustache, grabs the first book he sees, and walks right up to where you sit, pulling out the chair opposite you and flips his book open. Out of the corne rof his eye, when he sees you look up, he looks up too, putting on his best display of ‘surprise’ when he ‘notices’ it’s you.
“Well now, what a coincidence this is!” he says before you can get a word in. You blink at him, but don’t seem annoyed, simply cocking your head in an intrigued manner.
“What a coincidence indeed,” you drawl slowly, placing your pen down. “Thanks for remembering to shut my door,” you go on after a beat where Finn is briefly too awestruck to say anything more. He quickly snaps back though, remembering the clear message you’d sent him last night, how you hadn’t seemed to enjoy his antics more than you enjoyed simply talking to him.
“It’s the least I could do, you know,” he leans across the desk a little to faux whisper. “After such a great night,” he says, rewarded for his efforts when you smile at him. His own smile drops however, when a moment later, you pick up your pen again and look back at the books around you.
“Listen, Finn, I appreciate you coming over to see me and all during your lunch,” busted. “But I really need to study for this paper…”
Finn jolts, wanting to flirt and charm you into paying attention to him, but he reminds himself that you aren’t like most of the girls he’s seen before, and so instead relents, beginning to get up.
“I’m sorry, I should go–”
“–You don’t have to go!” you interrupt him, looking back up. Finn slides back down into his chair like you’ve commanded him. “Just give me another half hour, okay?”
Finn does. He nods, and turns his eyes back down to his book, and for the next thirty minutes he reads about the life cycle of bees. He’s only occasionally distracted by little hums you make, which cause him to look up at you for a minute or two and simply stare. He gets a good look at the pile of books you often swap out and flip through, taking notes, and finds himself again stunned by you in all your sexy, sexy, smart glory. You were studying something to do with physics and space and Finn can’t help but think to himself about all the time he’s wasted seeing anyone but you and despite some of the books you have open having titles containing astronomy, he decides to keep his knowledge of astrology off the table.
Almost exactly thirty minutes have passed when you at last close all your books, including your notepad, place down your pen and look up at him again.
“You know, I didn’t think I’d be seeing you again,” you tell him thoughtfully, looking him in the eyes. Finn opens his mouth but at first no words come out, so he quickly closes it again. He stares at you, you smile back and roll your eyes. “Come on, I know a place we can go, since you didn’t even eat half your lunch…”
Finn dutifully helps you return your stack of books, along with his own, before following you to your car where you promptly drive him off campus to a sweet little diner a block away. Even he’s surprised with how quiet he stays until after you’ve both ordered, he doesn’t even check out the cute waitress as she walks away, too absorbed in staring back at you as you make a hand gesture like you’re ready now.
“What’re you studying?” he asks quickly.
“Astronautical engineering,” you reply. “What are you studying? I didn’t think we had a beekeeping school.”
Finn smiles and shrugs, almost about to launch into a speech about beekeeping and the non-existent classes he took on it, before he stops himself.
“English literature and teaching.” he reveals, feeling a little naked in doing so, but the way your face lights up after he tells you erases any such doubt in his mind.
“You’d be good at that! I bet you’d have no trouble holding a class's attention!” you gush. Finn distinctly feels his face go red.
Over lunch, you ask him about the baseball team, and in return he asks you about your volleyball team. You’re halfway through explaining a recent rule change when you stop and blink up at him.
“Oh you don’t care about volleyball rules,” you say, seemingly bashful at having gone off for the past five minutes about the subject. “I bet you’ve never even watched a women’s sports game and cared about the rules,” you joke. Finn laughs, your statement not untrue, but he won’t go away with you thinking that was still going to be the case from now on.
“Not in the past, but I would if you were playing,” he tells you earnestly, hoping to god you don’t think he’s simply using a line.
You stare at him for a beat before smiling softly again, turning your eyes down at your plate as you do. You place your knife and fork together at an angle and Finn definitely concludes you come from some kind of high society out East.
“I can’t go home with you tonight, it's a school night,” you say, sounding sorry about that fact at least. Finn frowns.
“But it’s a Friday?” he doesn’t mean to push, he doesn’t even care if you go home with him, he’d be okay with genuinely, actually studying with you if that's what it took. You shake your head like you’re reading his thoughts.
“I have a shift at the observatory,” you begin apologetically, before your face once again lights up.
“How about the next time we see each other, we go out then?” you repeat his words from your very first meeting. Finn straightens up, a grin pulling across his features. He liked this game, and unlike the last time, he didn’t have to go away with the feeling that he’s made a mistake, because he can tell by the tone of your voice, one way or another, you intended to see him again.
“Alright Kimberley, it’s a deal.”
