Michel Galabru - 1922-2016
Tumblr media Tumblr media
If you grew up in Britain in the 70's, you'd have watched the "Carry-On" series of films. If you grew up in France, it was the "Gendarme" series. If, like me, you grew up in both, then you go a heady mix of both corny, knock-about comedies. The Gendarme series is where I came across the wonderful actor Michel Galabru.

A man who, to my mind, looked undressed without his cigar.
Tumblr media
As time went on, his face got pudgier, the fleshy cheeks more pronounced and I just wanted him to lower himself onto me. As severe as he looks in this photo, he was better known for his madcap sense of humour.
Tumblr media
He was also well known for his stage appearances. I saw him in Paris in "Bon Appetite, Messieurs" and he was marvellous (even if the play wasn't).
Tumblr media
The smile, the white hair... Everything I could want.
There will be more. This man is too handsome for only one post.

This is a first for me. A relatively old foreign film. An old foreign gay film. I enjoyed it but it dragged out too long and lacks an emotional high. Let’s see if the American remake improves on them.
La Cage aux folles (English: "The Cage of Madwomen"; also released as Birds of a Feather) is a 1978 comedy film directed by Édouard Molinaro, based on Jean Poiret's 1973 play of the same name. It stars Ugo Tognazzi, Michel Serrault, Rémi Laurent, Michel Galabru and Carmen Scarpitta.

Nebenbei ist sogar noch ein bisschen “Let’s put on a Show!”

Pierre Yves…

Whispers of the Sea (AesopSharpxMC)
character bio
15 year old Aurilla "Rilla" in her Selkie form (circa 1860): grey vitiligo skin, eyes glowing in darkness, silver hair, sharp teeth. She's been constantly bullied for the "scarry/ugly look", so unfortunatelly she had learned how to hide her more selkie-self under a thick coat of 1860s beauty standards (which, paradoxically made her stand out from the crowd even more) :-(
Half-blood, the only one from her family to attend to Hogwarts. Fate? Coincidence? "Magical creatures", just like her, aren't allowed to have wands or learn at schools of magic... But unlike her sisters being daughters of muggle sailors, she's a fruit of her mother's brief affair with a French wizard-traveller Louis Edmond Galabru. Ministry, not knowing she's a Selkie, prepared a letter for her. Both magical creatures and her school peers, treat her as an alien, and she desperately tries to fit in.
Tired of being bullied, she dropps out of Hogwarts by her 7th year. She doesn't want to come back to her mother and sister living on Faroe Islands, but instead becomes a pearls diver near Scarborough, where, by coincidence, she meets a young Auror- Aesop Sharp.
GOD I love this MC, I wish there was a vitiligo mod :-(

Michel Piccoli - 1925-2020
Jacques Daniel Michel Piccoli was one of les grands du cinéma français, and we lost him in 2020 at the grand old age of 95. Along with his contemporaries, Noiret, Serrault and Galabru, I came across him during the 80's, but by then he had already starred in a host of classic films: Belle de Jour (1967), Les Choses de la Vie (1970), Le Mépris (1963) and La Grande Bouffe (1973), to name a few.

Stunningly handsome, even (especially) as he grew older.

Beautiful eyes, as well. I'll have to post more of this beautiful man.
