Qerime Radisheva aka Shote Galica was born in Drenica, Kosova, on November 10th, 1895. She was the only sister of 6 brothers (how’s that for a çike hasretit? 😏) • She is one of the most prominent Albanian figures, gaining fame for her ferocity in battle as well as her wisdom. She is credited with saying, “Jeta pa dije është si një luftë pa armë” (Life without knowledge is like a war without weapons). • At 20 years old, she married Azem Galica and in 1919, at the age of 26, she and her husband joined the Albanian uprising and fought Yugoslav forces in Junik. • After Azem’s death in 1925, she took control of his band of kaçaks (soldiers) and fought with Bajram Curri (shoutout to my Tropojane mom’s side of the family 😆) in Prizren (Kosova) and Lumë (Albania). • She eventually moved to Fushë-Krujë in Albania and in 1927, and at the age of 31, died. • She was posthumously awarded the title Heroinë e Popullit (“Heroine of the People”) in Albania. • Her legacy lives on, in songs, novels, legends, and even imagery. Tag 8 - Von George W. Bush zu Arbi

Die Fahrt nach Krujë war höchst herausfordernd, da ein kleiner Ort namens Fushë-Krujë davor lag. Anscheinend hatten die Leute der Umgebung vor dem Fressbalken-Autotreff den Rang abzulaufen und eine schier unüberwindbare Blechmasse von überall parkierten, einbiegenden und hupenden Autos zu bilden. Krujë selber, auch sehr verwinkelt gebaut, ist zum glück nicht gross und wir konnten in der riesigen Hotelgarage von Mervin zuflucht finden. Krujë selbst besteht für Touris vorallem aus einer Basarstrasse, welche sehr schön anzusehen ist, jedoch mit Shops gefüllt, welche alle den selben Müll verkaufen. Das Bürgchen beheimatet das Skanderbeg Museum, welches leider montags zu hatte. Dafür ist er aber auch als Statue sehr amtlich anzusehen. Krujës Affinität zu Gjergj Kastrioti aka Young Skanderbeg resultiert daraus, dass Krujë das Hauptverteidigungszentrum der Liga von Lezhë im Kampf gegen die Osmanen war. Nach einem sehr kurzen Spaziergang durch die Burg entschlossen wir in einem herzigen Restaurant im Areal einen kleinen Snack und ein Bier zu uns zu nehmen. Hajde Läbe! Im Zentrum von Krujë, wo sich ebenfalls unser Hotel befand, gibt es einen weiteren Ausläufer zu einem geschichtlichen Funfact zu bestaunen. Die George W. Bush Bäckerei bietet Brot, Glace und Confisserie an. Was für die Krujëaner ganz normal ist, wirkt für uns natürlich eher verwirrend bis verstörend. Die Erklärung ist ganz einfach: George W. Bush war der erste President der USA, welcher nach Albanien kam und besuchte unter anderem Fushë-Krujë. Ein*e aufmerksame Leser*in verbindet diesem Namen gleich mit unserer Blechhölle. In Fushë-Krujë gibt es sogar noch ein Denkmal, welches neben einer Tankstelle steht, dessen Preisschild grösser ist. Nice! Unsere beste Entscheidung in Krujë war es jedoch, ins Garden Restaurant einzukehren. Der nette, dicke Mann fragte, wie immer alle Menschen hier, woher wir kommen. Schnell entpuppte sich, dass er in Zürich an der Quellenstrasse aufwuchs und wir konnten schön auf Schweizerdeutsch mit ihm plaudern. Arbi war extrem herzlich (ich nehme an er ist es auch noch jetzt) und nachdem er erfahren hatte, dass ich Koch bin, sagte er, er mache uns eine Platte mit seinen Spezialitäten. Die Ziege zerging einem auf der Zunge und sogar Larissa ass sie gerne. Danke Arbi für das wundervolle Essen! Auf dem Dorfplatz gabs noch zwei Elbar für uns und dann ab in die Heia.
