The best colour on the carpet This is Us trio Mandy Moore, Chrissy Metz and Susan Kelechi Watson turned up in cobalt blue dresses, livening up a sequin-spangled red carpet in the vibrant hue.

The best low-key looks Reese Witherspoon stayed away from red-carpet perennials (embellishments and black), opting instead for a green-ivy Zac Posen off-shoulder dress.

The best of pink Saoirse Ronan (of Lady Bird fame) wore a Louis Vuitton column dress in millennial pink, while Kate Hudson showed up sporting a cool new pixie hairdo and a saccharine Valentino floor-grazing gown. Kristen Bell kept it sweet in a berry pink J Mendel with dandelion embroidery.

The best dialled-down dress Millie Bobby Brown pared back her coming-of-age Calvin Klein sequinned number by pairing it with Converse All Stars and double buns.

The best of sequins Susan Sarandon wore her sequins in midnight blue and took the look to new glam heights with a pair of sunglasses. The red carpet’s favourite finishing touch found its way on Nicole Kidman’s Armani Prive dress too. Halle Berry earned bonus points for giving the embellishment a Barbie-esque twist (think attached tulle skirt and high ponytail). Lupita Nyong’o’s sparkle grey Ralph & Russo dress was a highlight. Vanessa Kirby aka Princess Margaret wore her sequins on a posy-patterned Valentino sheer dress.
