I almost forgot the whole Carnestoltes and Vella Quaresma celebration when it literally goes hand in hand with OAUW themes.

Some context under the threat:

- The Carnestoltes i la Vella Quaresma represent the two extremes of the balance, the excess, "El rei Carnestoltes", and the abstinence, "la Vella Quaresma".

As the story sings: the King Carnestoltes brings party and joy for days, but after a whole week of partying, no sleeping and "sinning", the people find themselves exhausted, with their homes destroyed and no food for the winter.

So Carnestoltes is sentenced to death by the stake on Tuesday and on Wednesday "El dimecres de cendra" (Ash Wednesday) starts the 40 days of penitence (no meat, no eggs...) marked by the seven legs of the Vella Quaresma who loses one every week, ending in Pasqua (the return of Spring).

-The style is inspired by the nostalgia and softness of Pere Torné Esquius illustrations.

-Also, also, the demons represent the Correfocs, pyrotechnics spectacles made by adults and children dressed as demons throwing fire and spurns around.

My wednesday group got into a bit of a tricky situation with a hag who probably wants to turn us all into puppets. So I painted a quick lil mini for our group's impending boss fight so we can truly experience the horror awaiting us all.

We're not even supposed to be here yet, but we accidentally skipped the first two hags we're supposed to be facing and ended up in the clutches on the worst one. We're in danger.

Oh wise Tumblrinas, I need help with a DND choice

So! In this latest session, our party explored the lair of a power hag we've just killed. Before we got into it, Art returned to the starting area of the storyline to reunite a Papa displacer beast with his daughter, and received a very odd little blue star as a reward. When it held this star up to an enchanted doll, the doll uttered the phrase "I wish I may, I wish I might...be free from this hell."

My current working theory is that the first half of the phrase activates the star and allows me to use the Wish spell.

Our goal is to take down the third of 3 hag sisters, who now that her siblings are dead is much, MUCH more powerful. One of her sisters, Tasha, a very well known figure in DND lore, was just revealed to us through a room depicted the hags' family tree. I have the idea to use this little star to help us do so...but...I can't decided HOW to word the wish.

Time is another important factor in The Wild Beyond the Witchlight and the three hags of the Hourglass Coven at the heart of the story are tied to the concept of past, present, and future. Their kingdoms of Hither, Thither, and Yon also reflect the three sisters’ different manifestations of time. Each of the hags exerts power over their realm—and when they’re displeased, their realm is displeased and things can go awry.

Eldest sister Skabatha, also known as Granny Nightshade, is a recluse who lives mostly in the past. Her dwelling is in an ancient forest. She passes the time by making toys for children and is part toy herself. Woe betides adventurers if the wind-up key sticking out of her back runs down.

Bavlorna Blightstraw, also known as Slack-jawed Lorna, is a toad-like hag who embodies the present. She can create miniature manifestations of herself, which run around her and perform odd tasks. She exists in the here and now and doesn’t dwell on the past or pay much mind to the future. She lives in the swamp settlement of Downfall, among a court of bullywugs.

The third hag is Endelyn Moongrave, also known as Bitter End (“I adore her art,” Chris says, “and hers is a fascinating story”). Endelyn is a prognosticator who can see the future. She lives in a mountaintop theater, where she has plays performed for her amusement. But she also wears a dress that can double as a theater contraption so she can perform plays telling the future of those she meets.

Born Guilty

It doesn't matter what happened, what happens or what will happen, in their eyes, you were born guilty.

The fact that hags aren't born but made, hurts me deeply and I will never sleep again.

WIP of my D&D character Hexaline Bloodapple, a young hag in training who has left her mothers' coven for the first time and struck out on her own! Here she is with Endelyn Moongrave, an older hag oracle whom she deeply admires and aspires to be more like!

I'm missing this week's session, so did some sketching to fill the hag-shaped void in my heart (big hag fan okay???? Just so happy my DM let me play one.)

Witchlight Rambles

In our next session of The Wild Beyond the Witchlight, Hexaline and Kage are taking part in one of Endelyn Moongrave's plays.

Hexaline has been cast as a foolish minstrel (I'm going to be an absolute fop!!), and Kage as a nervous apothecary. Since we left the session there, me and Kage's rper have decided to dress up in those roles for next session.

I am so incredibly excited. We've already been discussing costuming, and I have some leftover vials from when I made Grey's spellcasting focus that I can use to represent the vials Hexie leant Kage for her costume.

I have a lot of D&D over the next couple weeks and I'm VERY EXCITED. So I will ramble about it here, because what else am I using this tumblog for????

This Sunday: playing Astrophelle! Some of the party have had Far Realm spiders implanted in their subconscious, including Astro herself. The session will involve weird dream adventures and dives into the characters' memories in order to get rid of those spiders. Should be interesting, I love fun dream adventures!!!

Next Wednesday: Hexaline! We're heading to Motherhorn to see Endelyn Moongrave. Excited for my lil hag girl to finally meet her!!

Next Friday: Trash Squad! I DM this one. Last session ended with the party seeing the wreck of a spelljammer, so next session should pick up with them meeting its wonderfully fun captain and...maybe they will reach the lich they've been seeking out next session as well? That would be fun!

Next Sunday: EuroAtlantis woo! They should be finishing off an aboleth and maybe heading into a new arc? I have a lot of ideas for the next few sessions that I'm super excited for.

Also Next Sunday: I get to play a guest character in a friend's game. He's over the top in both personality and design, his name is Lucine, and I am super excited to play him.

The Wednesday After: Faine will attend an Important Council Meeting with the rest of their party and I'm sure absolutely nothing will go wrong...
