Stephen Sanchez – Franklin Music Hall – Philadelphia, PA – December 6, 2023
A Stephen Sanchez show brings you back in time.
If you don’t recognize the name, you would likely recognize his hit song, “Until I Found You.” In 2021, the song went viral on TikTok and launched him into mainstream media. The song landed Sanchez an invitation from Elton John to perform it with him at Glastonbury.
Flash forward to December 2023, Stephen Sanchez and his band The Moon Crests performed at Franklin Music Hall in Philadelphia. The show opened with “Something About Her,” a track from his first full-length album, Angel Face. This song showed off his stellar vocals as the audience was silent and entranced for the length of the song.
Tumblr media
The singer has often been compared to Elvis Presley due to his style of dance, aesthetic, and stage presence. Sanchez lives up to this comparison with his ability to make his old soul 1950s style relatable to the current generation. Dressed in black trousers and a collared shirt with his hair slicked back, he had the crowd swooning over him. The whole show felt like it was something from the past.
Throughout the show, Sanchez would pause in between songs to tell the story of a young troubadour and his forbidden love, which intertwines with his debut album. The audience was very engaged with the theme and timeline of the story. Many members of the audience came dressed in 1950s and 1960s fashion with poodle skirts and fancy gowns. It was an immersive performance to say the least.
Tumblr media
Despite cancelling his previous show due to sickness, his voice and energy were unmatched. Sanchez’s live vocals were mesmerizing, and emotion filled. In the middle of the show, he performed “Unchained Melody,” which really showed off his vocal control. Sanchez interacted with the audience as often as he could, always smiling and making jokes. His song “Shake,” displayed his ability to move and dance as though his whole body felt the music.
A special moment in the show was when a fan asked him to play an old song of his and he happily agreed. Sanchez and his band played “Hold Her While You Can” for the first time during the whole tour. The crowd was enthralled and Stephen himself seemed excited to perform and please his fans as well.
Tumblr media
As the night ended, Sanchez and The Moon Crests played “Until I Found You” with everyone in the room accompanying them. Sanchez put on an unforgettable performance. The detail in the outfits, lighting, and storytelling fit the 1950’s look perfectly. His career is just getting started and it will be exciting to see where it goes.

Two Friends, NOTD & Deerock – Skylight Stage at the Mann – Philadelphia, PA – June 17, 2023
A Night on Planet Two Friends
Two Friends – aka Eli Stones and Mathew Halper – are known for their “Big Bootie Mixes” and their bi-annual festival “Big Bootie Land.” Stones and Halper are longtime friends and musical collaborators. The dance-pop duo has listeners ranging from college kids to grown adults. The pair’s viral remixes of popular songs such as “Mr. Brightside” and “I Miss You” helped them break out into the global dance music landscape.
Tumblr media
Their current headline tour, Planet Two Friends, made a stop at the Skyline Stage in Philly on June 17th. The first opener Deerock created a fun atmosphere as fans arrived at the show. He understood the crowd, shouting “Go Birds!” The set ranged from an original song titled “I Remember” to a remix of “Mine” by Taylor Swift.
Tumblr media
The second opening act of the night was NOTD, a Swedish pop-dance duo. They brought another level of energy to the night as they took to the stage. The peak was the moment Tobi jumped into the crowd of fans. Their mix of “Unholy” by Sam Smith hyped up the sea of people waiting in excitement.
Tumblr media
Finally, it was time for Two Friends to take the stage. Right before they came on, the screen behind the stage displayed Two Friends themed trivia questions. It unified the crowd of fans as they talked amongst themselves in anticipation.
Tumblr media
The graphics, lights, and stage design were very on point with the theme of the tour, Planet Two Friends. The intro video made it feel like you were inside of a spaceship. When the duo appeared, they popped out from a UFO where they performed from most of the show. Amongst the lasers and smoke cannons, the UFO even got raised in the air in the middle of the set.
Tumblr media
The chemistry between the duo is impossible to miss. It was clear that they were having the time of their lives on stage. Their stage presence was felt by the whole crowd, as the two of them ran around the stage and stood on top of their UFO during their mixes.
Tumblr media
They played a number of hits, from “Gimme! Gimme! Gimme! (A Man After Midnight),” to “Electric Love” and throwbacks from “Candy Shop” to “Clarity.” Two Friends also played some original songs including, “Looking at You.”
Tumblr media
All in all, this show was a ton of fun. Both Eli and Mathew’s energy was unmatched, not to mention the fans dancing the entire time. Two Friends have a handful of shows left on their summer tour and it would be a shame to miss out on a great night out.

Madi Diaz – World Café Live – Philadelphia, PA – February 28, 2024
Madi Diaz’s recent show in Philadelphia proved to be a moving experience, captivating the audience with her mesmerizing vocals and dynamic stage presence. Diaz got her break as a solo artist after releasing History of a Feeling in 2021. Writing songs for Kesha, Little Big Town, and touring with Harry Styles also contribute to her resume.
Tumblr media
Philadelphia was one of the first shows on the Weird Faith Tour, named after Diaz’s most recent album, which came out this year. The setlist for the show started with “Same Risk,” the first track on the album. Madi writes songs about love in ways that feel new and clever. She gives us insight into her life through her music and isn’t afraid to show her vulnerability.
Tumblr media
One of the most impressive aspects of Diaz’s performance was her ability to connect with the audience on a deeply emotional level. There was an authenticity to her delivery that resonated with the room. Her lyrics, filled with introspection and raw emotion, served as a reminder of the power of music to evoke human experiences.
Tumblr media
Before most of the songs she performed that night, Madi gave her listeners a glimpse into what the song was inspired by. Her short introductions only added to the experience of hearing her perform along with showing her relatability. Backed up by her drummer, Diaz performed her 19 song setlist using three different guitars. The encore ended perfectly with the song “Weird Faith,” which summarized the theme of the night.
Tumblr media
Overall, Madi Diaz’s concert was a testament to her talent as a musician and performer. With her soul-stirring vocals and songwriting prowess, she left a lasting impression on all those who attended.

Masego & Ogi – The Fillmore – Philadelphia, PA – April 4, 2023
The night started off with Ogi, a Nigerian-American singer, who captivated the audience with her playful personality and beautiful vocals. She began the set with her song “Envy” from her EP titled “Monologues.” As she sang through her EP, Ogi interacted with the crowd and shared the inspiration for her songs. The story of her song “Let Me Go” came about from her telling a friend to get out of their toxic relationship. Ogi’s rhythmic and soulful music perfectly set the mood for the main event of the night, Masego.
Tumblr media
As the clock ticked closer and closer to 9:00pm, the energy in the room began to rise in anticipation. Masego, a Jamaican-American musician, is known for incorporating the saxophone into his performance. Walking out from left stage with his saxophone in hand, his set commenced with one of his most popular songs, “Navajo,” released in 2017. It was impossible not to groove and move to the beat, as his music is so full of rhythm.
Tumblr media
There is no doubt that Masego was born for the stage. His presence was blaring as he sang, rapped, and played the saxophone all night. He interacted with the crowd throughout the set, but a notable moment was when he threw roses into the sea of people during the song, “Mystery Lady,” which happened to be my personal favorite song. Another big moment of the evening was when he brought a lucky fan on stage and performed a passionate saxophone solo to her. The crowd was whistling and roaring.
Tumblr media
In the second half of the set, Masego commented on his appreciation for the city. During an impromptu freestyle, he said “You know I love…,“ and had the crowd repeat back “Philly, Philly!” He ended the night with an encore of “Tadow,” his hit song which everyone sang along to. The entirety of Masego’s show was full of energy and great vibes. He is an extremely talented musician who exudes confidence and personality. The You Never Visit Me Tour will leave you in a great mood and is a guaranteed night well spent!
