Age of Wonders 4 Review Cons: - The whole launcher management of linking the game to your account, and doing seperate launcher updates. - So much to take in. - Takes a few turns to get going. - The camera is not always ideal when trying to be accurate in a built-up area. - The tutorial is very broken up and you can miss a lot or not trigger the help. - Retry failed battles always turn them into manual combat encounters. - You never feel like you know everything. - Later on in games, the Ai turn can take ages. - At times I felt a bit unsure of where to go or what to do. Beverly Hills, 90210 Gets Its Heat from a Dangerously Cute Cast of TV's Hottest New Stars CONFIDENTIAL MEMO: FROM: The Vice Principal TO: The Faculty, High School U.S.A. I'm sure I don't need to remind you what happened when we didn't prepare for Bart Simpson last fall. The school was flooded with rude, antieducational T-shirts. Some cows were had. Well, as a new school year gets under way, I believe we face another daunting challenge: Brace yourselves for Beverly Hills, 90210. That's the Fox drama about unworldly twin teens Brandon and Brenda Walsh (played by Jason Priestley and Shannen Doherty), recent transferees from Minneapolis to the Hills of Beverly. There they struggle to assimilate into the fast-lane lifestyle of West Beverly Hills High School, where the kids come equipped with BMWs, call waiting and designer surfboards. In the process, the teens examine their emerging identities and the problems that adolescents everywhere face.

The show languished in the Nielsen ratings against Thursday powerhouse Cheers last year. But Fox had no replacement, so it stayed. While we were on summer vacation, new 90210 episodes began airing, and the show landed in the Top 20, becoming the most popular show among teenagers. To some extent, I take responsibility for having ignored 90210. I made the mistake of reading newspaper critics instead of my daughter's diary, and so I believed, as Howard Rosenberg sniffed in the Los Angeles Times, that the show was merely a "ZIP code for stereotypes and stock characters." Little did I know that this show would mesmerize teens by doing emotionally realistic shows that involved adolescent rebellion, alcoholic; parents, a breast-cancer scare and plenty of worrisome teen sex. "Most shows for adolescents," says 90210 creator Darren Star, "seem like they are written by 50-year-olds who think teenagers behave like 7-year-olds."

It also doesn't hurt that the show's male stars, Priestley and Luke Perry (who plays brooding loner Dylan McKay), are "to die for," as my daughter puts it. These two have each been receiving about 1,500 fan letters a week. So be vigilant: Surely some of these will be written by our students...during class! And I'm afraid that 90210 is only going to get bigger with our kids, if producer Aaron Spelling is to be believed. "I thought The Mod Squad and Charlie's Angels got a lot of publicity in their heyday," says Spelling, whose company produced those shows, "but it doesn't compare to this. It's crazy. We have merchandising coming out of our ears"—a complete line of T-shirts, beach towels, notebooks, etc. "And now these actors can't walk down the street!"

Or even streak through malls. You probably saw those alarming news reports about a frenzied mob of 10,000 fans that stampeded Perry when he appeared at a south Florida mall last month. "It's a little scary," says Perry. Scarier is the amount of time students will waste this fall discussing Luke. And Jason. And who is sexier. I provide some information on the two. Jason Priestley, 22, plays Brandon Walsh, a model of thoughtful level-headedness. In real life, however, the brown-haired, blue-eyed star, who started acting in commercials at age 4 and played an orphan on that very nice NBC sitcom Sister Kate, is no Oliver Twist. He likes dirt bikes, bungee jumping and is a chain-smoker (just about the whole cast puffs it up—but not on-camera). Vancouver-born Priestley likes to hang out in Las Vegas. As for his real romantic life, he was reportedly dating actress Robin (Doogie Howser, M.D.) Lively last spring, but it seems likely that now he is too busy for such dalliance;. He must be on the set 14 hours a day, five days a week. To avoid ever-present fans, Priestley says, "I look different from my character when I'm just walking around. I don't shave, I don't dress like Brandon."

On the show, 26-year-old Luke Perry (Brenda Walsh's boyfriend, Dylan) sports a leather jacket, dagger sideburns and a squint that spells t-r-o-u-b-l-e. Although he grew up and graduated from high school in Fredericktown, Ohio, he seems to have attended James Dean wise-guy classes. Perry, who played country-boy Ned Bates on the ABC soap Loving, entertains the 90210 cast by strutting around bare-chested making jokes. Does he have a girlfriend? "No. You know how I can get in touch with Linda Hamilton?" What kind of music does he listen to? "Tom Jones is awesome." Are he and Priestley ever mistaken for each other? "He's mistaken for me on his good days." And 90210, he says, is "the best show on television, except for Jeopardy!" We should act quickly, faculty, when we see any signs that Beverly Hills, 90210 is disrupting normal student activity.

How abnormal might things get? Consider: "It's almost like there are cults," says Brian Austin Green, 18, the North Hollywood High grad who plays the cutely dweeby David Silver. "Girls go to school the day after the show, and they actually become these characters. They say, 'Okay, today I want to be Dylan, you can be Brenda, you can be Brandon.' " Needless to say, students caught pretending to be TV characters should be brought directly to my office for detention. But you know, it might not be a bad thing if our students could show some of the good sense that the 90210ers display in coping with the pressures of fame and fortune. Jennie Garth, 19, who plays the very sexy, very blond, very snotty Kelly Taylor, is particularly admirable. The youngest of seven children, she grew up on a farm near Champaign, Ill., until her schoolteacher parents moved to Phoenix when she was 13. "Living in a small town and coming from a very tight and close family instilled a lot of standards that I need to live up to," says Garth, who just bought a home in Sherman Oaks. She also recently supplied her parents with the down payment for their new home, setting a splendid example for today's youth.

According to a tabloid that someone left in the faculty lounge, Memphis-raised Shannen Doherty, 20, a veteran of such wonderful shows as Little House: A New Beginning, is the only cast member to be accused of behaving like "a spoiled brat" on the set. But she maintains she is no such thing. "I think everybody gets in a bad mood," Shannen says. "You do not work 16-hour days and not start feeling it. But I have never thrown a tantrum. I've gotten upset on the set, but it's never been just to be a bitch. You have to stand up for yourself in this business. That was something I was told when I was 12 years old and working with Michael Landon."

As with about half the cast members, Doherty is in a relationship—in her case, a real-estate developer with whom she's exchanged commitment rings. "You really have to date a while before you decide if this is the person you want to marry," she says with Brenda-like candor. Almost sounds like the relationship could be a future 90210 plot. "The problems of young people have accelerated," says Aaron Spelling, "and so have their feelings and thoughts." The show, he says, has kept pace: Even with their Clearasil-perfect complexions and plump allowances, the students at Beverly Hills have encountered their share of problems. "We had the guts to make Luke Perry be a member of AA," says Spelling. "We had Jason, our star, drinking and driving. That's reality."

And, apparently, the adulatory fan mail often includes a sad dose of that reality. "I got a letter the other day from a girl who mentioned the show we did on parental drug abuse," says Perry in a rare moment of seriousness. "She wrote about catching her father freebasing in the basement. I get letters like that all the time, from people all over the country." Gabrielle Carteris (at age 30, she's 90210's oldest cast-kid), who plays Andrea Zuckerman, the bright student who comes from the wrong side of Rodeo Drive, remembers an encouraging close encounter in a grocery store. "One girl came up to me after we'd done the breast-cancer show," says Carteris. "She said, 'I went home with all my friends and we checked our breasts for lumps.' "

In conclusion: Maybe I didn't need to write this memo. Maybe things won't be that bad, even if every locker in every corridor has a picture of Jason, Luke, Shannen or Jennie in it. Perhaps our dear little school is more like West Beverly Hills High—at least the TV version—than I thought. That's what Ian Ziering, 27, thinks too. "The reality on the show pretty much mirrors the way life is all over, in terms of teenagers," says New Jersey—bred Ziering, who once did Fruit of the Loom underwear ads and now plays 90210's curly-headed jock, Steve Sanders. "There's a mystique about Beverly Hills. But that's not what keeps people tuning in. The show could have been Montana E-I-E-I-O." By the way, should any student pronounce his name "eee-an," correct him or her, please. It's "eye-an."

-- WHEN BEVERLY HILLS, 90210 PREMIERED last October, Highlights, the student newspaper at Beverly Hills High, ran articles mocking the school's TV counterpart, West Beverly Hills High. "They said that the show was a joke," says Jenny Brandt, 14, a sophomore at the 1,900-student school. But as the story lines improved and Jason Priestley and Luke Perry became stars, the jokes stopped, and Brandt found herself, like many of her pals, glued to the set on Thursday nights from 9 to 10 P.M. "No phone calls allowed," says Brandt. "Except during commercials." Hope Levy, a 17-year-old senior, has taken fandom a step further with her friends. "We have little handmade cards," she says, speaking from her mom's car phone. "They say you're a member of Club 90210." While some kids think the show treats them as snobby stereotypes, most agree with sophomore Jordan Rynes when he says, "It's like a soap opera for teens. The shows dealing with drinking and drugs are the most real—adults don't realize how accurate it is."

Round 1: Grunt

The Grunt household... I know Buzz is supposed to be a bad father, but I can’t stand to do that so I try to make him more... incompetent. He’s trying now. He’s learning how to cook :)

I only managed to get TWO. WHOLE PHOTOS while I was playing because this round was pretty hectic for me. Taking care of everyone’s needs and aspirations while also trying not to impose on their personalities too much was rough. I failed in keeping Ripp as more of a sloppy, uncaring teen as he now cleans up his own dishes and even rolled a want to do his homework.

The first day, especially before I remodeled their house, was pretty bad. I intended on keeping Ripp in his teen career, but frankly even just having Tank in one was bad enough. Tank at least fucking LOVES to skill body points.

I should say this now before I get too deep into the post: Tank comes off kind of eggy to me (IT’S THE FACEPAINT) and I plan on playing her as a trans woman. She’s still going to go into the military and be kind of terrible lol, but I’m having her gradually transition through college. I’m worried about actually going in and editing things in SimPE while she’s a YA for some reason so it’ll likely be a round or two before she comes out to her dad and everything, but that’s sort of the experience huh? Anyway I wanted to point it out so no one was confused on the pronoun usage.

Tank became an overachiever and received the scholarships for, I believe grades, the one for reaching the top of a teen career, and the one for having a high body skill. She cleaned the house a lot, wrote in her diary, and was going completely nuts on that punching bag upstairs. She got beat up by Johnny Smith the first day I played which was sort of the inciting incident for the building body skill!

Ripp nearly went into aspiration failure since he’s a romance sim and the only people he knows are Ophelia and Johnny. He would onyl roll wants to either go to college, buy a cellphone (no, but I did buy him a game console), or go on dates. Even if I wanted Ophelia to cheat, Ripp was woefully unattracted to her. Johnny wasn’t an option for similar reasons, although I’m keeping Ripp as straight so I never checked for their chemistry. He talked to every townie teen girl I ran across until he met one walkby who managed to like him somehow. He asked her on a date (they stayed at his house) and it went okay, I ended it early and in the middle fo the night she dropped off some fast food condiments which was nice of her. He invited her over again the next day and they became best friends and kissed etc etc. Now Ripp isn’t in danger of aspiration failure before he gets to college, I hope. While this whole thing was going on Tank had a friend over, some random townie teen who had been generated recently judging by his non-base game hair. I think they’re friends now but I honestly couldn’t bother to make sure - I was too busy juggling the date and everyone’s needs.

Buck spent most of his time painting and being away from other people. He socialized with both of his brothers and somewhat with his father but he just kept rolling wants to earn creativity points so he was in platnium the entire time. He even grew up and I didn’t realise until the camera moved over to him. Here’s how he grew up!

I completely adored this dumb surf outfit for him (even though he apparently has a serious personality...) so I kept it, only changing his hair and adding some shades (which I totally didn’t get a pic of)

His dice roll went to a couple different aspirations but I made an executive decision that he should be a family sim. He seems the type, and I sort of have a characterization for him (sort of!) from an apocalypse challenge I read years ago on the exchange. I still re-read it to this day, it was one of the lucky ones to get archived.

This was a cute autonomous action he and Tank did btw! I wanted to add it in since it’s the ONLY other photo I took.

This was right before school, and Ripp and his father were having a pleasant conversation just a few feet away. It was a nice morning :)

Buzz generally didn’t have problems with his aspiration level but I found it hard to get him anywhere past low green since he doesn’t have any acquaintances. The only people he knows outside of his family are his enemies! He did start rolling wants to be friends with Johnny but I ignored these since I thought it was too OOC (for several reasons) and kind of weird! This was what made me close the game and go install a community lot, haha. He ended up having two bolt chemistry for Bella Goth which I thought could be a really interesting sort of story, but they get on like a house drenched in water. He didn’t have any luck with the next woman he talked to either, but the one after that was a nice townie lady named Marion wearing the world’s brightest pink sweatsuit. I considered having them date but they have negative chemistry and I don’t want to force romance unless I have good reason! They’re best friends but it took a few days due to work. Buzz also made another friend, a man he brought home from work. I try to finish building the relationship with the sims brought home since they start off with around 20 or 30 points in daily relationship. It worked out well this time and they had very nice, long chats, quickly becoming friends. So now thank god, General Buzz has some friends.

One other thing happened before the end of this round: they got fucking robbed. I had bought the family a big pickup truck (no military vehicles available in vanilla unfortunately) and a pottery wheel, completely forgetting to buy burglar and car alarms. The burglar stole both of the above objects, but I did get insurance to cover it since she went back outside and around the back to grab things, and the phone was really close to Buzz’s bed! I never have emergency phone calls work out!

The insurance money still wasn’t enough to completely cover the cost of a new car, though, so they’re using the smoogo minima. This is my most used car in the game by far. They’ll have enough to replace it soon, but that’ll be next round :)

Right before this one ended, I had to very quickly send Tank off to college. I’m still thinking about how I want to fit in new households and colleges into the rotation, but I do have the 48hr faster college mod so it should be both more challenging and a bit less of a drudge for me now!

Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

May 4: Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker

I saw this at pretty much the very first available showing, and haven't watched it since. But since I had the other Disney-era ones in 3D, and I still have the capability to watch 3D movies at home, I decided to complete my Blu-ray collection by ordering the British 3D Blu-ray, like I'd done with The Last Jedi. So now I'm going to see it at home for the first time, in 3D for the first time, and take notes like I've been doing.

My reaction when I saw this on opening night was that it was a lot of fun. I didn't think it was as good as The Last Jedi. Overall it feels like a trilogy where the first priority was to avoid the mistakes of the prequels, and the second priority was to have them be fun movies. Mission accomplished, but the actual story of this trilogy is only marginally satisfying. But I left that opening night screening excited about all the neat things I'd witnessed. And now I shall press play and do some re-witnessing…

Emperor Palpatine, the opening crawl tells us. He wasn't someone we were expecting to be part of the plot of this movie, was it?

First scene after the opening shot is a slow-mo land battle, visually different from Star Wars movies in general. Dude kills 100% of everyone then plucks a mysterious relic from a mysterious relic. He's on a Tomb-raider-y treasure hunt.

It takes him to a Tomb Raider-y lair… and there are creatures in green liquid ahhh!

"…some consider to be… UNNATURAL", that line from Episode III. Very love it. Good reference.

The image of all those Star Destroyers is super super super cool.

And now after a calculated bit of lightness in the Millennium Falcon, the good guys arrive at a super neat looking planet thing. Not even ten minutes in and we've seen three inventive new planet environments.

And now a chase, "lightspeed skipping", and each skip is a cool space place, all different, one of them has a big monster! They are tuned into what's good about Star Wars movies, these Rise of Skywalker makers.

Also, Finn and Poe seem to have settled into their roles as funny supporting-character buddies. The first movie really seemed to be beginning a more dramatic arc for Finn, but it doesn't feel like that's happening any more.

0:15:36 - Rose Tico sighting! Her arc blunted as well. Be nice if she joined them on this mission they're about to leave on.

Really kind of surprising how much footage there is of Carrie Fisher, who died years before this came out.

Okay now we're back with Kylo Ren on this planet that's the equivalent of that orc-factory in Lord of the Rings. What's he doing? Collaborating with some ukky beings. Fixing his helmet. Hm.

Bit of humor in the conference room scene, again calculated.

Back to our heroes and they're on another neat new planet with color clouds & celebratory visuals, pleasant.

0:23:40 - Very cinematic Rey-Kylo cross-galaxy conversation, cool.

Lando saves them from stormtroopers, and is therefore given the honor of the "I've got a bad feeling about this" line.

0:28:00 Speeder chase in the desert, and the stormtrooper speeders launch them up and they fly! Cool!

Hah, there's a gag where Rey fires up her light saber and Poe tries to do that too but his is just a flashlight, cute.

Okay, here's this scene I like where there's a serpent monster in their Tomb Raider cave, and Ray figures out that the monster just needs to be force healed so she does it and it helps them. Sounds corny but I like it.

0:36:00 - we see the Ren gang on a plateau and here a new music theme. I'm not much noticing the new music themes in the Star Wars movies of the 2010s, but there's one.

This scene. The Kylo/Rey meeting in the desert. It was heavily teased in the trailer and it would have been more effective if we hadn't seen so much of it in the trailer. Also there's a who-can-magic-harder duel that ends up killing Chewy, except that we don't have to believe that very very long.

"Let's do that!" about wiping C-3POs memory, John Boyega's exceptional comic timing on display again.

0:45:40 - We're on this new planet now, which is so Poe can find the person that can do a memory wipe of 3-3PO, right? It's fast-paced, this movie.

"We sent out a call for help at the battle of Krait, nobody came" says Poe. Am I forgetting that drama from The Last Jedi? I know he's talking about that final battle from that movie, but I didn't remember a despairing "no one is coming", at least not like it was a huge, shocking letdown.

I like the little Babu creature but we don't get much of it, do we

Poe is all "did she do that to us" when he sees her Force-hypnotize the stormtroopers, haha

0:58:10 - Pretty unique shot, dollying backwards facing Poe & Finn shooting stormtroopers we can't see until they fall in front of the camera

"Your parents were no one… they CHOSE to be" here's where it starts to seem like this movie doesn't like where the last movie was going & made it be different. If this were an improv class the teacher would be like, "remember the principle of 'yes AND…'"

Okay, this bit coming up where General Hux saves them & says he's the spy. It's… funny? And dumb? Maybe? Sort of a tawdry end to this character in the trilogy maybe?

"You.. Are a Palpatine." Dun dun dunnnnnnn. Okay sure I guess. This isn't what I'm into Star Wars movies for; I wouldn't have had it be about this.

They get to the new planet and Rey figures out how to use the knife tool to find where to go, it's so like a Tomb Raider game that I feel like I'm reading a cheat guide on GameSpot

Now Finn is bonding with the girl on the planet who is also a stormtrooper deserter, makes that whole Finn subplot make more sense.

Rey swiped a cool watercraft to go to the wreck of the Death Star and I just want to point out once again that I like the vehicle design in Star Wars movies.

1:13:10 - overhead shot of said vehicle is the first notable example of something that looks good in 3D in this movie. I'm inclined to say you really shouldn't feel like you're missing out if you're seeing this in 2D.

She's in a vision cave on the wrecked Death Star. She fights HER OWN SELF for a second, and bad-Rey rawrs at her in a way that reminds me of when Bilbo does that in the first Lord of the Rings movie. I liked it there and I like it here.

1:18:05 - First bit of my beloved "Han Solo and the Princess" theme, so lovely

Now Rey and Kylo are saber dueling all over this wreck with waves everywhere and it reminds me of the big climactic duel in Episode III where it seems like the duelers are going out of their way to duel in a cool looking place.

Everything gets all dramatic in a way that doesn't really get explained - Leia very deliberately says "Ben", then dies, but it affects Kylo allowing Rey to kill him, but then she un-kills him with Force magic because "I did want to take your hand" and then bounces. And it's not over with this kind of thing, because Kylo has a not-really-real conversation with his played-by-OMG-Harrison-Ford father, and he symbolically hurls his awesome saber away. So where are we now? We're in some drama, that's where. I miss cool vehicles and inventive creature design!

1:27:45 - Modded-up Star Destroyer emerges from lightspeed and it's another cool 3D effect.

And then it blows up the planet where Poe's ex-girlfriend was and it looks cool, but we could have used her to be around more. Wait, does she not-be-dead later or something? Probably.

Okay, very corny sequence happening now, it's the pep talk between Rey and ghost-Luke, it ends with a smirking Luke raising up an X-wing like he couldn't do in Empire Strikes Back, so I guess that plot point is tidied up.

Okay, we got past that drama and now there's a very simple Saint-Crispin's-Day speech riling up the troops so they can go to that mystery planet for the final battle, and interest level has picked up.

1:41:28 - Hey a shot of Rey going through a wall gap is a reference to the earlier cool-in-3D shot of the watercraft & the Death Star wreck.

And here's something that internet assholes picked on - they ride horse-things on the Star Destroyers. Lighten up comrades, maybe this just isn't your kind of space adventure movie.

Rey gets in the mystery-edifice and holy hell it's creepy! There's an audience of thousands of cultists in black stone bleacher seats, chanting in perfect unison! It's downright Kubrick-y!

They really had fun with the lighting in the Palpatine room. Also, there are red stormtroopers on the Star Destroyers and aren't they pretty.

Palpatine is trying to convince Rey that she should embrace hatred and hill him and rule the galaxy in ritual hatred with a chanting congregation of hooded dipshits. Will it work? He does have a very compelling speaking voice. But here comes Kylo! He has had a change of heart or something!

"The life force in your bond," he narrates, and then bad-magics them super hard! We never could have anticipated that evil force spells could thwart their plans.

1:54:20 - very satisfying shot of a giant fleet of good guys coming to save the day. They hit us with the idea of no one coming to save them, and just like when Han Solo swooped in in the first movie, it feels good that this time someone else did show up. And yes it includes Poe's girlfriend and that charismatic little varmint!

Super cool to see Star Destroyers get blown up.

Also cool when Palpatine super-zaps lots of good guy spaceships. Sound is neat on that also. This intense visual/aural experience is what I was thinking about for a while after first seeing this movie.

Rey beats Palpatine by having that surprise second light saber. Whatever, this is a super cool looking scene with all the bad guys in that chamber getting wasted.

Other cool battle climax imagery happens up in the sky, even though it's kind of hard to see what exactly physically happened to save Finn and those guys on the crashing Star Destroyer.

Kylo… what??? Didn't die when he just disappeared into a crevasse??? Quel surprise! He's super-reformed now and heals Rey up with his tender love for her. They kiss, their carnal desires overtaking them, they are high on the most ethical lust the galaxy has ever known! And he dies and disappears, but is visibly satisfied. I feel okay mocking this because I suspect no one likes it. And then it moves on to really cool aftermath visuals that are crazy fun to watch. They are experiencing the great victory in other planets from the other movies, and to the tune of John Williams themes from movies past.

Maz presents Chewy with a special medal, am I supposed to know what that's about? They're giving it major gravity.

So the movie, the trilogy, and the Skywalker Saga ends with a scene of Rey returning to Tatooine to bury the two important light sabers, but also whip out another one she had, and then tell a townie that she's named Rey SKYWALKER, and the final moment is of her gazing at the two suns with the Binary Sunset theme playing us out. What I like about that is that it sends the message that that moment from the original Star Wars, elevated to greatness largely by John Williams stirring theme, is the pinnacle of cinematic experiences that were brought to us by this series.

I like this movie less than any of the Disney-era movies for sure, and I think after watching it a second time, it lacks some specialness that could have allowed it to hold up better against the best Star Wars movies. But I wouldn't say it's bad, and I certainly wouldn't advise against seeing it.

I’d kept hermit crabs for roughly a year and a half prior to discovering the CSJ site, and – like many others – assumed I’d been properly caring for them, negating the need to further research their requirements…or anything about them, really. One doesn’t exactly discover troves of books dedicated to hermit crabs the way one discovers the same in regards to dogs, cats, birds, or any of the other, more typical household pets. Subsequently, one simply decides that not much must be known about them (or that what is known is too boring and/or limited to bear repeating in guide after guide), and so one makes do with the information provided by pet store employees. While I don’t recall the exact thing that led to my first Google search about them, I do recall that it was diet-related, as I became interested in offering foods other than the pre-packaged pet store fare. During the course of this search, I came upon the CSJ site and decided to poke around. I was quickly struck not only by the quantity of information present, but also its quality. In addition to locating more than I ever bargained for, or could have imagined I’d find, regarding food options – and nutritional needs in general – I found information on so many other factors involved in the crabs’ care: Substrate. Tank size. Heating options. Molting. Illness. And……..science. A college professor by trade, I’m not one to be convinced of something, especially animal-care-related somethings, unless there is appropriate back-up research involved. I found such evidence throughout the CSJ site (man, those hermit crab books and pet store employees were way off…), and it convinced me that the folks in charge here must be awfully invested in correct hermit crab care. Why else would the site be so thorough? Contain information proven through included research? Contain an option for receiving assistance in the event of an emergency? Contain a marketplace, where select food items could be purchased for unbeatable prices? I was sold. And encouraged. I did a bit of additional, outside research, found information from trustworthy sources that corroborated CSJ’s, and set about making changes to my own crabs’ set-up. CSJ opened the door not only to new knowledge, but to the fact that such knowledge actually exists and is freely available. It also opened the door to a desire to learn more, and to maybe even mingle online with others like myself: crab owners dedicated to giving their crustaceous kiddos the best life possible.

Fast-forward to a year-plus later, and I’ve continued to make regular use of the CSJ site. I’ve also, as a result of joining its affiliated (LHCOS) group on Facebook, discovered not just folks I enjoy interacting with in a general sense; I’ve found new friends…a new tribe, if you will…some of whom I had the pleasure of meeting in-person at the first-ever CrabCon in July of 2019, an event that allowed this truly-introverted gal to come out of her shell (come on; you knew such a reference was imminent). It was a surreal experience that continues to sit strongly in my memory, and it offered additional options for camaraderie and a sense of community/belonging. But, I digress.

On September 22nd, 2019, I awoke to find one of my small crabs on top of the substrate, shell-less and missing all limbs with the exception of two walking legs, one of which was injured. He was a pathetic sight at best, and though I did not have high hopes for his survival (he had, I assume, been assaulted under the substrate while molting), I plopped him into an iso container with a few shells of appropriate size, as his was nowhere to be found. It took him a couple hours to choose one, and when he did, he picked a green turbo that was clearly too small. This concerned me, but I was more relieved that he was at least strong enough, and possessed enough of a will to survive, to put on some pants. I posted a photo of him in his sad state to my personal Facebook page, and – not surprisingly – my CSJ friends were quick to weigh in with support and suggestions. When it became readily-apparent after a day or two that the crab truly wanted to live (he was moving, eating, and drinking, although the latter two activities involved my being hands-on with him, as he was missing both claws), I began regularly communicating with various CSJ administrators and moderators. I’d never been in this situation with a crab before, and obviously I was interested in ensuring this one’s survival. I knew the basics for caring for an incapacitated, limbless crab – thanks to the CSJ site – but I desired more specific assistance, and the aforementioned admins and mods were not only quick to advise, but pleasant, genuinely-helpful, and personally-interested, and invested, in this little crab’s well-being. The ever-lovely and thoughtful Mary Akers even mailed a care package that included nutrient-dense food appropriate for a clawless, recuperating crab. This is the level of commitment these people demonstrate…not just for the crabs themselves (in a collective sense), but also for each other and for those of us in the LHCOS group who demonstrate a willingness to learn and to do right by our hermits and by each other, as friends. I was – and continue to be – blown away by the support, and kindnesses, shown.

As a result of these wonderful folks’ efforts, which guided my own, my incapacitated crab, who has since come to be named William Robert (‘William’ because of his will to live, and ‘Robert’ thanks to a former student-turned-friend who regularly checked in by asking how ‘Bob the Crab’ was doing), successfully molted into wholeness in the overnight hours of October 12th, 2019. Two days later – and only 20 days after I found him lying helpless, naked, and nearly limbless in his tank – he continues to harden. I imagine it’s only a matter of time before I discover him picking away at the remains of his ordeal, in the form of his old exoskeleton, with the brand-new claws that he regrew under the watchful eyes of his many CSJ/LHCOS friends and advocates. Katie Lee’s temper cools as the months progress and the coach reports improve. Despite her busy schedules, she’s constantly kept up to date not only about her own emerging group, but also about Royal’s new group to rival hers. Although Luxe hadn’t debuted to a massive success (much to her relief!), there was still enough chatter about them among the communities to make them relevant (much to her annoyance!) There was even a rumor swirling among industry colleagues about how Tiger JK, of all people, was considering putting some girls in the competition soon.

Needless to say, there was no more time to waste.

At the beginning of October, the girls are collected in Katie Lee’s office to hear the schedule for the following weeks. She offers up praise first for the outcome of the music video, (“It looks good, ladies, better than I thought.”) and then scrolls through her phone to access her notes. “You might be glad, or worried, to hear that your debut date has been set for December. December 17th, to be exact.” A sly smile dances across the CEO’s lips. “This means we have less than three months to get you girls polished and ready for the big time. Think you can do it?” A rhetorical question. “You will.”

For the month of October, the Eclipse girls are told they will be filming personal videos to be shown during their debut showcase in December, as well as participating in a photoshoot for the debut album’s jacket photos. Two versions of the debut album “MIRROR” will be released, the “LOVE” and “WHISPER” versions, and both will be produced out of this month’s photoshoot. Both album versions will include the teaser photos done previously, as well as a new concept to compliment it.

The first part of October’s evaluation will be the album photoshoot. The photoshoot will take place at an old house set in Seoul and the girls will be driven there by van and accompanied by the same staff who filmed their original teaser photos. On October 15th, the girls will arrive to the house location at 10AM and film there until 3PM. They will get their hair and makeup styled as soon as they arrive on set; for consistency, the hairstyles will be the same as they were for the music video shoot. The photoshoot for the album versions will be inspired by this collection. Each girl will have her individual photos photographed, as well as various duos/trios and full group photos. For writing purposes, the following parallels have been assigned:

JENNIE (EUNHA); MINJI (SOWON); HASEUL (UMJI); ANNA (YERIN); JEONGHWA (SINB); BLUE (YUJU)

The second part of October’s evaluation looks ahead for the debut showcase in December. Katie Lee intends Eclipse’s debut to eclipse all the rest-- to be the most memorable and expensive showcase of 2018. Each member of the group will get to film for a 2-minute long video that’s just for her, to show off who she is as a person, as well as solidify her official position in the group. The same day that the girls meet with Katie Lee, they are given a concept to which their personal video should adhere. Each girl will be given a day of her own to film with a camera crew and staff and she will film all required components for the video only on the assigned day. Each video must include:

A short talking segment expressing who she is grateful to (i.e. friends, family, the company, fellow group mates, trainees, etc.), and why she is excited about debuting with Eclipse. Although you may say whatever you’d like to during the filming (good or bad), only positive messages will show up in the final cut! (For this section, the crew will film the girl in a serene location in the KT building, which could be places such as rooftop, the main lobby, in a studio room, etc.)

Behind-the-scenes clips from one personal rehearsal. Singers must sing, dancers must dance, rappers must rap. Combination of skills is welcomed, so long as the main one is prioritized. The girl may choose the song to perform and the camera crew will film her in her ‘natural element’ while rehearsing. Interacting with the camera is optional for this portion. More important is to display the skill! (For this section, the crew will film the girl in an empty studio room at KT building.)

Clips with a friend! Each girl may grab either a fellow group mate (maximum two, aside from the main girl) or a public KT trainee to do something personal with. Eat lunch on the roof together, cover a song together, sit on the practice room floor and talk about life-- whatever you want! This is the time to show off your muse’s charm (if she has any) so be creative! The camera crew will follow you.

Disclaimer: I don’t actually own any pets at the moment. However I have done research into pets (mostly because I want to be a good pet parent once I have a pet (つ﹏<)･ﾟ｡) I am NOT an expert by any means. Do NOT interpret the stuff in this entry as fact.

This entry is a “what if Magala Mod was a dorky YouTube (or should it be HunterTube?) blogger who owns several monsters as pets and two of them happen to be ‘Stras”. This assumes that we live in the Monster Hunter world but we somehow managed to domesticate monster (Monsties?) and keep them as pets. Its a slightly unconventional entry.

“Ok just a bit closer… closer… closer… yes Haru… just don’t move…. ARGH!”

BOOM!

(Insert quirky intro that involves only pictures of Teostras, Lunastras and random monsters. Cut to dorky looking mod)

“Hey there Monster Hunters! Magala mod here and today I’m gonna talk to you about…”

[picks up adorable looking Teostra. He’s doing a blep and sheds all over mod’s shirt.]

“My pet ‘Stras! This here is Haru.”

[Puts him down. Picks up a Lunastra. She wiggles.]

“And this here is Diana. Aren’t they cuties?~”

[Magala mod tries to cuddle Diana. The Lunastra just puts her paw on Magala mod’s face and pushes. Magala mod just goes (￣￣|||) Cut scene. They are now on the floor.]

“After I posted a picture of Haru and Diana, a lot of you guys have been asking me stuff like… Where did you get a ‘Stra? Aren’t they really hard to take care of? And aren’t they dangerous? Well I’m here to say yes. [BOOM in the background] Yes they are dangerous.”

[Magala mod runs to get a fire extinguisher.]

*Technical Difficulties - Please Stand By*

[Cuts back to floor. There are now new scorch marks. Haru is curled up on Magala mod’s lap. Diana is sitting in a box with a “I really don’t care” look on her face.]

“But they are worth it, if you can take care of them. Just like any other pet they have their needs and if you can’t give them their needs, then you should really reconsider getting one as a pet. Isn’t that right Haru?~”

[Haru stretches and goes back to sleep. Magala mod starts squishing his toebeans.]

“Ok now first things first. How did I get these two. For those of you who don’t know, all domestic ‘Stras are descended from a group of wild ‘Stras back in the 20’s. Those ‘Stras lived in a monster sanctuary in the Volcanic Hollow. They were raised as orphaned cubs, not taken from their parents like some people believe. For a while, people were breeding them to help with the wild population. Those cubs were bred for their fur and parts, instead of hunting the wild population. Remember things were different back then. Monster rights aren’t what they are now and there are seriously no health benefits to ‘Stra horns or claws.”

[Haru gets up and starts playing with Diana. She looks uninterested, but he insists.]

“They started testing for temperament and they bred calmer ‘Stras with other calmer ‘Stras. Soon they became popular pets for people. Because of this, all family lines of ‘Stras are documented. I have the family tree for these two in my files. It's pretty neat because I know who the parents are and how likely they are for certain diseases. The National ‘Stra Club and good breeders do their best to not inbreed any litters.”

[Diana smacks Haru on the face. He looks offended.]

“Ok so if you remember a few months back I was on hiatus. That was because I was picking up these two! My family and I drove all the way to Volcanic Hollow and checked out the original breeding sanctuary for ‘Stras. If you want to know more, click on the link to my video blog in the description below... And here is where this video gets serious. If you want to adopt a ‘Stra please get it from a reputable breeder.”

[Magala mod picks up Diana. She does a cute royal yawn before licking her paws.]

“The process to get these two took FOREVER. Ok. And I mean it! I was on a waiting list. A waiting list for a year. The sanctuary went to my house. They checked everything. And by the way, if you want to get a ‘Stra or any monster from the Volcanic area, check out Volcanic Lions. You can find them on Hunterbook. They take care of everything: Diana and Haru’s vaccines, spay and neuter, and microchip. They also insisted that if I could not take care of them, they would take them back. I had to sign a waiver and everything. Total these two cost me 1 million zenny. But you two are worth it right?”

[Haru does a blep and rolls. Diana just stares with cute eyes. Magala mod cuddles her head.]

“Yeah so if you want one look out for those things = reputation, reviews, waivers, documentation. All that. Remember a reputable breeder doesn’t do this for money. Most of that money was to cover vaccine costs and the rest went to their non profit. Because ‘Stras are an exotic breed, they have to have certain vaccines and have specific things the vet needs to watch out for. I picked them up when they were 6 weeks old. They were never taken from their mom or anything. They are also well socialized.”

[Mod tries to pick up Diana again. She just stares at mod before wiggling out.]

“Ok now on to danger. Like all the exotic monster breeds. These ‘Stras are dangerous. Their explosion powder gets everywhere so get one of these.”

[picks up a Roomba vacuum. It's already filled with explosion dust.]

“I empty this thing. Every. Single. Day. Oh my Gog. Its insane. So get one of those Furminator combs too. You will need it. ‘Stras are long haired monsters so they need ALOT of grooming.”

[Puts the Roomba down. Haru and Diana hiss at it.]

“And get the fireproof model. It's worth the extra 100 zenny. Now ‘Stras are a high energy monster. They need lots of toys and entertainment… Unless your ‘Stras are like these two. Seriously. I buy them many toys.”

[Shows a whole room of toys and pet beds. Haru and Diana are loafs in cardboard boxes labeled “Konchu Express”.]

“They prefer the boxes.”

[cuts to old footage. Magala mod offers them a new expensive toy. Haru and Diana climb into the box it came in. Magala mod goes: (ლ‸－) *facepalm*]

“Make sure you trim their claws often. One of the benefits of getting ‘Stras from reputable breeders is that they are well socialized. The breeders touch their paws often so they are used to getting their claws trimmed.”

[Cuts to footage of Mod trying to trim Haru’s claws. He fusses a bit. Mod tries to trim Diana’s claws. She just daintily puts her paws in Mod’s hands.]

“Diana here is the diva. She just likes getting her way. Haru is more reckless but he’s the cuddle bug. Make sure you play with them often. Like most monsters, they have their own personalities. But since they are from a good breeder, they have good temperaments. Watch this.”

[Magala mod plays with Haru’s muzzle. He doesn’t bite. When Mod lets go, he licks her hand.]

“I highly recommend getting two. They play with each other while I’m out at work. But I know that costs more. And trust me…”

[Glances at them. Haru is tearing a box to shreds. Diana is daintily licking her paws.]

“They go through a ton of litter and food. And that goes to the last question. Are they hard to take care of? Well yes. I would not consider them a beginner pet. They are very high energy. A walk is not enough exercise for them. They love to pounce and play hunt. Lately I’ve been taking them to agility courses.”

[Cuts to footage from agility. Magala mod is showing Haru how to jump through hurdles. He runs and then sort of chews on the hurdle. Laughter in the background. Haru rolls over onto his belly and claws playfully at Magala mod.]

“I know most people see agility as something for Nargacuga. But ‘Stras can do the same. These monsters are usually bred to for show. Haru and Diana love showing off. I dunno if you can tell but Diana’s been trying to get in the camera this whole time.”

[Diana glances at the camera, before looking cute and showing off her mane.]

“So overall, ‘Stras are a really cool high energy pet. They are very loyal and they love showing off. Train them well and you won’t regret it.”

[Mod picks up Haru. He does a cute blep and shows his toebeans.]

“Remember that this is from my experience with these pets. Before going out to adopt one, make sure you do your research! If you have any questions about taking care of one I recommend asking a vet. Before adopting, please be sure to check out your local shelter or rescue and see if you can adopt one before buying. I know I paid 1 million zenny for these two, but half of that money goes to the Volcanic Lions Rescue Foundation, a non profit rescue that rehabs and rescues wild ‘Stras.”

[Haru wiggles out of Mod’s arms. Diana gracefully walks in the shot and sits down.]

“Ok thanks for watching! Next video I’m gonna talk about one of my other pets. This has been a long time request. I’m gonna be talking about…”

[Picks up a cute Gore Magala. She realizes she’s on screen and wiggles away.]

“Maggie, my Gore Magala. I’m gonna be talking about how I got her, how I take care of her scales, and most importantly why you should adopt not purchase a Gore Magala. But specifically for ‘Stras I recommend a good breeder or a ‘Stra specific rescue. Well all that and more on the next video! Please leave a like, comment, or subscribe! I’ll do my best to answer any questions but remember if there’s a pet emergency. Please call your vet. Oh and...Happy Hunting!”

Styg Mod (behind the camera): “Hey you do realize that between Diana, Haru, and Maggie, you have the monsters that shed the most?”

Most Americans settle in a home, envisioning a permanent life refuge. Achieving this vision of aging in place, though, means preparing the home now to anticipate future needs. Doing so successfully can allow older adults to remain independent, autonomous and in charge of their home security as they age.

As many as 94% of today’s older adults (defined as ages 65+) wish to stay in their own homes as long as possible. This group, as of 2010, accounted for 13% of the population (40 million people), and that number is projected to increase to 20% of the population by 2030.

Studies show there are numerous benefits to home-based aging, such as increased life satisfaction, quality of life and self-esteem. Maintaining familiar surroundings and connections is also a benefit, allowing older adults to remain close to friends and neighbors, keep the same doctors and visit favorite coffee shops and grocery stores.

The time is now to start planning for down-the-road needs, like modifying your home to accommodate future accessibility needs, home security and even live-in care. It is important to understand the appropriate renovations that may be required and to equip the home with modifications that are right for you and any caretakers providing attention as you age in place.

What you should know about designing a home while aging in place

Studies confirm there are benefits to keeping older adults in their homes longer, such as maintaining more independence and connection to friends and family, as well as avoiding the high costs of institutional care. Luckily, there are many options, services and helpful solutions available to help us stay independent as we age at home.

Basic home renovations

Improve lighting

Improving the lighting in the home is an inexpensive solution that can provide an increased sense of safety and security for older adults — safeguarding against stumbling and falling, as well as break-ins. Widen your doorways: Even just carrying packages can make doorways impassable, so imagine providing adequate space for assistive devices like wheelchairs. To meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) accessibility standards, doorways should be at least 36 inches wide.

There is a lot of assistive technology available today, including devices, software programs and equipment that’s specifically designed to help people work around their challenges — from arthritis-friendly light switches and easier-to-grip drawer pulls, to computer voice recognition programs, entryway ramps and more. Here are a few assistive devices for you to consider when updating your home for current or future assistive needs:

Clap-detection lights: Turning on lights with the clap of your hands makes turning lights on/off much easier. Plus, set the device in its “away” mode, and your lights will turn on with the detection of any sound, which can deter break-ins.

Smart entryway: Assistive tools like key finders, keyless doors and doorbell cameras make entering the home and monitoring activity at the front door easier. Learning who is at the front door from the safety of your couch reduces the need for unnecessary movement around the home, which can also prevent accidents and falls.

Home hub automation: Smart home options are now available to provide a one-stop solution for controlling your digital life at home, from programmable temperature controls and sophisticated home security systems to playing music and helping you keep track of appointments. For example, Amazon’s Alexa allows users to easily keep track of daily activities, call their doctor and even order food. And home hub security systems can offer older adults a greater sense of control over the safety of their home and valuables, all from the leisure of their couch.

Why designing with in-home care in mind is a good idea

Considering the high costs of long term care options in the U.S., it’s not surprising people are turning to alternative solutions. Although costs vary by state, let’s take a look at the average monthly costs of some of the more common long-term care options available:

A private nursing home room: $8,364 per month

A semi-private nursing home room: $7,362 per month

Assisted living facility: $3,862 per month

Adult day health care: $1,562 per month

To avoid these costs, and if in-home care is your goal, it’s important to start making plans now — so you’re not managing last-minute renovations and home modifications to accommodate the needs of caretakers at the same time your health takes a turn.

Some of the in-home care services you may need to consider planning for include health care aides, registered nurses, physical therapists, social workers and other specialists that make home visits. Your in-home caregiver might also be a companion or a loved one. Regardless of who is providing the care, it’s important to ensure your home is ready, so you can more easily adapt should the need arise.

Renovating your home for the future

But Verizon and other major US carriers aren't the only ones readying themselves for 5G. Carriers around the world��are ramping up to deliver the latest generation of cellular tech. Not only will these networks connect users to a superfast mobile network, but many other industries will benefit from the faster connectivity of 5G as well, like self-driving cars, drones and the internet of things, to name a few. Though none of these networks are ready for a nationwide rollout currently, carriers everywhere are racing to lay the necessary infrastructure to roll out a faster and more expansive wireless network. As such, more and more 5G deployment will take place throughout this year and next. Right now, 5G is live in select cities for Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T, and Sprint users. Chinese phone-maker Huawei has two 5G phones waiting in the wings. One is the Mate X, which combines 5G speeds and a foldable display. The device has a 6.6-inch display when folded closed, and an 8-inch OLED screen when you flip it open. It also features a 4,500-mAh battery and three rear cameras. The Mate X is scheduled to launch in the middle of the year and will cost a whopping 2,300 euros (about $2,600). Its second phone is the Mate 20 X 5G. The phone was supposed to launch in the UK in June for £999 (or about $1,279 in the US and AU$1,856 in Australia) but UK carriers EE and Vodafone have dropped plans to sell the device. The phone has a huge 7.2-inch display, a 4,200mAh battery, and a triple rear-camera setup. Don't expect these phones to come to the US, though. Calling it a security threat to the Department of Defense, the US government banned the sale of Huawei phones on US military bases. In May, an executive order put limits on foreign involvement in the US' carrier networks, which Huawei said will leave the US behind in 5G. Retail giant Best Buy also stopped selling Huawei products in March 2018 and Huawei's CFO was arrested in Canada at the request of the US in an act her father said was politically motivated. Italy also wants to ban the company from supplying 5G equipment. That doesn't necessarily spell the end of Huawei and its 5G ambitions, though. OnePlus

OnePlus' latest phone, the OnePlus 7 Pro, has a 5G variant that currently sells on UK carrier EE's 5G network. The OnePlus 7 Pro earned CNET's Editors' Choice Award and features a 6.67-inch, 90Hz display, a pop-up selfie camera, and three rear cameras. (It also survived a few dunk tests for water resistance, despite not being IP rated.) EE's 5G deployment will also span 16 cities in 2019, starting with London, Cardiff, Edinburgh, Belfast, Birmingham, and Manchester. OnePlus is working on bringing a 5G phone to the US though. On Aug. 6 the company announced it was partnering with Sprint to release a 5G phone "soon." In the meantime, the no-5G version of the OnePlus 7 Pro is available through T-Mobile, but unlocked models work on AT&T and Verizon. The regular OnePlus 7 Pro starts at $669 and £649 (converted, that's about AU$962 in Australia).

Nokia

Though Nokia isn't the phone giant that it was 15 years ago, it's still taking steps toward a 5G future. It's currently working with Qualcomm to make 5G devices and in July, the company announced a $3.5 billion partnership with T-Mobile, which includes taking advantage of T-Mobile's 600MHz spectrum to back its 5G network. But don't expect 5G Nokia phones anytime soon; in February HMD CEO Florian Seiche (who makes Nokia phones) said those devices probably won't arrive until 2020. Nokia also stands to benefit from 5G in other ways though. In addition to Qualcomm and Ericsson, the company has patent rights to 5G technology and stands to make up to $3.50 for every 5G smartphone sold.

HTC

Instead of a phone, Taiwanese electronics company HTC has a 5G hotspot. Available now on Sprint for $600, the hub connects up to 20 people simultaneously. Equipped with a 5-inch display, audio speakers and Android Pie software, the device is also a media hub that users can make video calls with or use to check the mail.

ZTE

Scheduled to release in China and Europe, ZTE's Axon 10 Pro 5G has a 4G version that is already available in Germany for 599 euros ($671, £520, AU$967). It's equipped with a Snapdragon 855 processor and has a fingerprint scanner embedded in its screen. On the back are three cameras that have AI capabilities, including scene recognition. The rear setup includes a wide-angle camera, a standard lens, and a third telephoto camera. For your selfie shots, the front of the phone has a 20-megapixel camera. In February ZTE said it was aiming to have 5G phones off the ground in either late 2018 or early 2019, but followed that up with a "late 2019" prediction. Currently, ZTE is working with eight international carriers to roll out 5G testing. For now, the future of ZTE in the US is up in the air due to a recent (now lifted) ban on its phones because the company violated trade sanctions.

Xiaomi

Chinese phone-maker Xiaomi remixed its Mi Mix 3 with a 5G model. Aptly named Mi Mix 3 5G, the phone costs 599 euros (about $679). It's unlikely that the phone will be available in the US. The company's initial 5G network partners include many European carriers, including Orange, Sunrise, Telefonica, Three, TIM and Vodafone -- the last of which will exclusively carry the Mi Mix 3 5G first. The phone itself features a 6.39-inch AMOLED display, a Snapdragon 845 processor and dual 12-megapixel rear cameras. Calling it "almost the perfect phone," CNET editor Aloysius Low also mentioned that it's neither water-resistant nor do its front-facing cameras have secure 3D face unlocking.

Oppo

After showing off a prototype at MWC 2019, OnePlus' sister company Oppo debuted its trio of Oppo Reno phones in April. One of the phones includes a 5G model, the Oppo Reno 5G, which is available on the UK carrier EE and Australia for AU$1,499. The device features a fantastic 6.6-inch screen, a Snapdragon 855 chipset and a pop-up selfie camera. TIMEFRAME: 14 OCT-31 OCT 2016

Area of Operations: Wabakimi Provincial Park, Ontario, Canada

SITUATION: A. Enemy Forces: Eight (8)- Ten (10) members of a species named “Wendiigo” have been roaming the Canadian wilderness for the past six months. They are a tall, heavy creature built for speed and strength. Limited intelligence exists other than lore and scant detail from unreliable encounters. Some sources state that these creatures are prior human beings so PSYOPS may be an option. Color ranges from black to dark earth tones with glowing eyes at night. Uses claws, teeth, and rash attacks at its offense.

B: Friendly (Indigenous) Forces: Royal Canadian Mounted Police operate a small detachment near the park, but have all but been exhausted during their hunt of the creatures. No support other than for insertion, extraction, supply drops, and intelligence on the region will be given. Indigenous Forces are evacuating local residents and those engaging in outdoor activities throughout the area of operations for the duration of the mission.

C: Intent: To locate, identify, and destroy the threat to bring back stability to the region while assisting local forces/civilians to safety.

MISSION:

Operational forces will be inserted into the area of operations through float plane. Three (3) CC-138 “Twin Otter” float planes will insert a total of twenty (20) men consisting of three LRRP sized teams and one (1) STA size team [six man and two man respectively) onto Omdahl Lake at 0630 hours local time.

Team will conduct a Long Range Recon type patrol of the Area of Operation, attempting to locate and destroy the threat whilst setting up a Forward Operating Base (FOB) out of one of the remote cabins throughout the area northwest of the region.

Team will depart from Fort Hope Airfield and fly into the area of operation Approximately 85 miles South West of the airfield. From there, the aircraft will take off and returning to Fort Hope to retrieve additional supplies such as portable canoes and man portable UAVs before returning to drop off these as well as additional supplies at both Omdahl and Crozier lakes before returning to Fort Hope to remain on standby for immediate evacuation of wounded personnel. Once the team has reached a suitable FOB they will begin to set up defenses and bring about a reconnaissance schedule. The three teams will operate on a “Sleep, Watch, Hike” schedule, with one team on a recon patrol on a designated route, another maintaining defenses around the F.O.B, and the final team resting/sleeping while acting as a quick reaction force for the team on patrol. The defensive team will also have access to one of the three provided RQ-11B “Raven” Unmanned Aerial Vehicles, with the other two RQ-11B's being deployed with the reconnaissance and STA teams out in the field.

Reconnaissance Teams will operate on a three day rotation, taking a day to maneuver to a designated area, setting up a patrol base, gathering intelligence on possible enemy location, while setting up potential ambush points to try and lure enemy forces into suitable kill zones. On the third day, the reconnaissance team will maneuver back to the FOB and relieve the next team going out on patrol.

The STA team will operate out of the FOB on five day missions, moving farther out than the reconnaissance teams, using the Raven UASV as their advanced out of sight force multiplier, and using surrounding elevation to scan for targets, use tracking skills to look for previous signs based on intelligence provided, attempting to guide reconnaissance teams to a suitable kill zone of their own. The STA team will return for two days to resupply at the FOB and rest.

Each reconnaissance team will have at least two suitable members trained in tracking, and wilderness capture techniques.

LOADOUT:

Each reconnaissance team will consist of three rifleman armed with LWRC IC .308 rifles, two machine-gunners armed with Ohio Ordnance M60E6 Enhanced General Purpose Machine Guns, and one medic armed with a Bravo Company Manufacturing CQBR MK18 chambered in .300AAC Blackout. Two of the riflemen will be armed with under-barreled M320 grenade launchers for increased firepower, the third carrying an M32 Mikor multi-barrel grenade launcher. Two Short Barrel Benelli M1014 shotguns will be carried by selected members for close in/specilty work. All personnel will have a Sig Sauer P226 9mm pistols, carrying enhanced Mec-Gar anti-grip 20 round magazines. IC .308 rifles and the medic's MK18 will have detachable X-products and Magpul D60 drum magazine for first contact reaction.

Follow up magazines will be 25 round Magpul PMAG-SLR for rifles chambered in .308 and 40 rounds in Magpul PMAG40 if chambered in .300 AAC Blackout. Eight (8) additional magazines for the rifle and four (4) additional magazines for the pistol will be included in the load-out. Four (4) additional 40mm grenades and one-hundred (100) rounds of .308 machine gun ammunition will be carried by each team member. These numbers will be increased when assigned to a member with the designated weapon system through the use of grenade belts or machine gun pouches from Tactical Tailor. M67 fragmentation, M18 Smoke in red/white, M84 Stun and M15 White Phosphorus grenades will be carried by each member in quantity of two (2) each. Each team member will also carry up to three M118 Claymore anti-personnel mines.

Rifles will be set up with Gemtech supressors, Aimpoint CompM4 Red Dot Sights, Geissle Super Select Fire triggers, Surefire M600 scout lights with IR filter, and Steiner DBAL IR system. GPMGs will be set up with Armasight day/night optic with white/black hot capability and Gemtech suppressors. P226s will have aforementioned extended magazines, Surefire X300U lights, SRT triggers, and night sights.

40mm grenades will consist of M1060 Thermobaric, M433 High Explosive Dual Purpose, and illumination (both IR M992 and M680 white light flare). Weapons chambered in .308 will carry Mk316 Mod 0 ammunition. MK18's chambered in .300 AAC Blackout will carry Remington 125 grain open-tip match ammunition. The P226 9mm's will carry Hornady 135 grain plus-P flex-loc ammunition. The .300 Winchester Magnum Nemo SLR carried by the STA marksman will be loaded with 200 grain Hornady GTX hunter ammunition.

Personal equipment will consist of a camouflage uniform (ATACS-AU and M81 woodland combat shirt or blouse with trousers), wicking undershirt, skivvies (Silkies or Ex-Officio boxers), socks (Merino wool either Darn Tuff or Smartwool) and boots (gore-tex, mid height). Gloves (nomex or mechanix type), eye and ear protection, an Ops-Core FAST helmets with NVG mounts for PVS-14 goggles, Surefire white/IR lights with Streamlight red light and a camera feed will be worn along with a Mayflower APC plate carrier carrying lightweight level 3 armor plates that are stab/slash proof. Communications will take place via headset and VHF radios. A battle belt will be worn under the plate carrier and will not be removed at any time consisting of first line gear (Safariland/ G-code drop holster, RAT-5 knife, HSGI rifle/pistol pouch, Blue Force Gear Blow-Out kit, Tactical Tailor grenade pouches) and last ditch supplies. Rucksacks will consist of Kifaru EMR packs with Tactical Tailor operator packs attached. Breakdown of gear will consist of appropriate clothing for climate including rain gear, base layers, extra socks/skivvies, and long/short sleeve shirts.

Each member will carry an emergency ration and a survival kit on their immediate person at all times either in pockets or pants belt attached "fanny pack". Each member in their rucksack will carry basic gear such as appropriate sleeping bag, bivy bag and sleeping pad. A Kifaru Woobie, sil-nylon camouflage poncho and USGI issue casualty blanket will be issued as shelter.
