i have a long and messy dragon age au that i wanna write down because i think it’d be interesting but it’s basically “what if zatharian’s clan was clan sabrae”
okay so this sorta disregards the whole “dalish leave extra mage kids in the woods to die” because
clan lavellan apparently never did this so it stands to reason that changes per clan
mages are the ones who pull aravels which would be sorta difficult with just two or three mages. especially with large clans like zatharian’s.
mages are revered and coveted to the dalish and they don’t really fear them also they need to move around to avoid templars regardless of the amount of mages in a clan
i hate that shit and it collided with this au so ya
this would also disregard the option to help the werewolves kill off the clan unless a few survived including marethari and merrill and they went to kirkwall (that would ironically be a good explanation for what happened to the halla in da 2) but this was made in mind with my dalish warden where she saved both the elves and werewolves
zatharian has the same backstory and was the one who started the curse due to the death of his family but still has a child with mahariel’s mother but she’s the one who dies not soon after mahariel is born. mahariel’s father was already canonically the keeper and ashalle could still be a mother figure. their mother would still be from another clan but mahariel was maybe an accident and left to zatharian after she died. i don’t imagine the whole “romeo and juliet” thing we got but even prideful morally gray immortal bald elf mages gotta hit it every once and a while (zatharian wouldn’t be the only one).
he has three apprentices - marethari (who was made first when she was younger, but since zatharian is an “immortal” she aged), lanaya, and merrill. i know merrill was the equivalent of a dalish transfer student from clan alerion(?) in nevarra because marethari needed an apprentice but maybe that clan did the whole “let’s abandon mage babies” but zatharian stepped in and took her in.
mahariel’s backstory is the same but zatharian keeps them alive from the blight with blood magic (bc that’d be insane healing magic marethari was pulling out) since we know he’s a blood mage and this is where merrill finds out that blood magic isn’t a total evil and perhaps it could purify the blighted eluvian. marethari would only see how he had just used blood magic to make him immortal and curse the wolves so when she sees merrill starting to use it to she’s reminded of zatharian and doesn’t trust her. i think it’d be interesting and sad to add to merrill’s story to be betrayed and loose her keeper twice (ily merrill).
i pictured clan sabrae to be in the southern part of the brecilian forest during the origin considering your warden manages to not be half way to a ghoul by the time you get to ostagar so the clan would’ve still moved north.
when the clan splits lanaya is made keeper of the clan in the kocari wilds - also this clan is named clan mahariel because they’re the HoF and a descendant of the emerald knights and lanaya would still wanna honor zatharian since he was very good to lanaya (considering he saved her) and good to his clan despite his definite definite issues. if zatharian lives then he’s the keeper of this clan and still names it clan mahariel (idk why he’s not the one fulfilling the debt to flemeth maybe guilt or wanting to settle on their would-be land after everything). marethari takes merrill and clan sabrae to kirkwall for the amulet.
i think it’d be good for dalish wardens considering the rest of the wardens have more confrontation with their past. brosca and aeducan can go back to orzammar and deal with their families, mages go back to the circle and also deal with jowan, tabris can see their family and the aftermath of killing vaughn, and cousland can slaughter that bitch rendon god bless but the most we get for mahariel is we see tamlen a ghoul and seeing the eluvian in witch hunt but not their clan and it kinda blows. we could get to see merrill (who ideally would be like da 2 merrill) and be best friends with her and have a more emotional connection to the events and be lied to by their father. like i still get emotional bc of the dialogue you get from his clan if you’re dalish and god dude that’d just make it worse. i don’t think zatharian would’ve been a good father considering he’s warped by vengeance and would still be focused on his first family instead of mahariel who they might resent more since they cheated death multiple times. maybe you could meet tamlen’s family and they would blame you for his death and not finding him while you were cured. and the ending where you fight zatharian and he realizes he has to free the wolves so you basically lead your dad to his death. god it’d just be so angst ridden and sad and i’m a whore for that shit so i love this au
i’m not like a da lore aficionado so if i’m missing something else thats conflicting with this au either deal with it bc it’s my angst ridden dragon age daydream or i’m sorry. it depends on what i’m missing.

Real weapons for Dragon Age: Origins characters - Durin Aeducan
Real weapons for:
Tumblr media
Durin Aeducan
Dwarf Noble Champion
***
1. As
The Favored Child of The Dwarven King
Durin is a dutiful second child of his father and House Aeducan. Also an allegiant prince of his king and Orzammar.
When he's appointment as commander of Orzammar, he proudly take his duty. And a suit of old armor…
Tumblr media
"Atrast vala, my son. How fine you look in your great grandfather's armor."
"But dad, they're made of IRON… and the edges are rough. Can I have some NORMAL quality Dwarven crafts?"
"Dwarven crafts! Fine dwarven crafts, direct from Orzammar. You won't find better."
"Why are you gave me an iron sword, then. Gorim?"
Dwarven-crafted armor and weapons are considered the finest in Thedas. - Dragon Age: The World of Thedas Volume 1
Sooo… Let's just pretending great granddad (or grandmother) Aeducan's armor and the "rather fancy longsword" Gorim given to the Aeducan were some fine dwarven crafts, made of the shiny bronze like fantasy Dwarven steel. (Much like the Dwarven Metal in The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim.)
*
In the beginning of the story, Durin was already spent most time of his life on the learning and training all of the weapons a Dwarven noble man can get.
Tumblr media
He chose sword and shield as his main combat style. He carries sword and dagger (they're parts of his noble dress). Gorim, as his second, carries his shield.
Personally, Durin prefer spend time to study troop tactics for real war. Rather than learning duel-fighting for show off and grab glory. But he is very talented and well-trained, still became the best fighter of House Aeducan. And made him the most nasty thing in his brothers' eyes…
Durin devote himself to protect his people. Become a great general, leading the army against Darkspawn, was the best way he can imagine - when he think he can't do anything else for people of low-castes and casteless. Durin avoids getting involved in Dwarven politics. Not saying he's lack of intelligence or subtlety for politics, he was too kind and honorable for the Orzammar court.
Durin was an idealist like Bhelen, but much pragmatic. Or should say: cowardly.  He keep silence about corrupted politics and injustice caste system since he being scolded when he and Bhelen trying to discussing this topic with their traditional king father. He will never fight a family member, no matter they did right or wrong.
Tumblr media
But when his cocky, mean older brother threaten his best friend, Durin decide he need take steps to respond the bully.
*
First Step
"Look at it from his perspective. You're more personable then he's ever been."
The Noble's Dagger share the same appearance with Grey Iron Crow Dagger. Reminds me the gold dagger of King Tutankhamun.
Tumblr media
King Tut's dagger (reproduction of the gold dagger of King Tutankhamun) by Buster Warenski
So I chose other one of the Warenski Legacy Series to showing my idea about the Noble's Dagger:
The Gem of the Orient by Buster Warenski & Julie Warenski-Erickson as Noble's Dagger
Tumblr media
Noble's Dagger
This dagger is originally of Antivan make, crafted as a gift for the head of a dwarven clan in Orzammar. Eventually, it was revealed as a bribe to obtain illicit lyrium, ruining the clan in question and forcing them to flee to the surface.
*
"The blade has been crafted over a period of two years by masters of every art."
It's the real dagger most closest to the picture in my mind. And the makers used also nearly two years to create it. (From The Art Knives & Knife Engraving of Julie Warenski-Erickson. Some myths said was 12 years.)
I imagine the Noble's Dagger it's a fully functional Crow Dagger. Looks just like in the game. (About the Crow Dagger see in the Zevran's chapter.) The blade made of shiny bronze coloured Dwarven steel. Its hilt was highly decorated by geometric designs, with gold engraved House Aeducan heraldry upon its pommel. There no emeralds and diamonds for the Noble's Dagger and its scabbard, only few small low-priced gem stones.  It was created by similar technology with The Gem of the Orient. But with much simpler and cheaper ornaments, It will looks far less elegance than the latter. Yet still with a kind of serious regal dignity.
"It's a princely gift. If Trian recognizes it, though, it may send the wrong message. Or the right one, depending on your view."
Durin accept the gift from the weapon merchant, wear it on the nobles' feast, to send the message to everyone: He knew the people prefer him over Trian. And he will not humbly refuse their support. And the princely dagger looks realy good on his belt.
*
Second Step
Durin is a fighter far more gifted than many, including his brothers. Yet he never fighting in the Proving before the Origin story. He watched many, though. Take it a opportunity to learn, consider and research different combat style, and refined his skills. He disapprove of the violent sports inwardly - sprinkle precious blood of Dwarven warriors not for protect the people but only for show off and please the crowds. But… it is tradition, and he can do nothing to against tradition. But, he can using it to against Trian…
Durin vanquished every warrior in the Proving. His "rather fancy IRON longsword" was good enough for him. Despite so, he still prefer Gorim's practical sword over his fancy sword. If Gorim can generously lend him the Gorim's Sword…
Tumblr media
"No, it’s Gorim’s sword. It’s a T5 longsword, made of Red Steel, you need 25 strength to equip it. And you're too weak for it." - Gorim Saelac, a 16 strength warrior.
Finding a real sword for dwarves? What can I do? Nobody make swords for dwarves these days! Except this one:
Standard Short Sword by Archangel Steel as Gorim's Sword
Tumblr media
Gorim's Sword
This fine dwarven blade has been folded with lyrium to make it more durable and has been imbued with properties that make it resistant to corruption by the darkspawn.
A 23" blade for dwarves just about a 29" blade for human. Which means around length of blade of single-handed arming swords. 2.4 lbs also almost on the lightest end of the spectrum of the weight of arming swords. Compared to the Albion Kern I mentioning in the chapter of Cousland, it was even half a pound lighter, yet 10" longer than this sword.
A bit of reality sauce: Dwarven sword should suit body mechanics of dwarves. The length should depends on the length of their limbs and size of their body. So it will shorter than same type of human swords. And the weight maybe slightly heavier than their human versions, but wouldn't have too much difference - A trained warrior will not choose to using a 6 lbs longsword too fight for the life, if they can have a same length, 3 ~ 4 lbs longsword. No matter how big and strong they're.
"You entered the Provings held in your own honor just for glory and to please the crowds."
*
Third Step
When he realize Lord Ronus Dace trying to fool him, Durin feel extremely upset, angry and shamed. For how easily his sympathy to the casteless can be using to damage his own House by an avaricious politician. Deliberationed, he challenge Lord Dace, and duel with Mandar Dace.
Tumblr media
"You realize that it is Lord Dace's son Mandar, a formidable duelist, who will defend the honor of House Dace in a Proving?"
"Three-time champion of the Great Provings, much decorated, and heir to House Dace."
I was quite disappointed for this "formidable duelist" using a maul. Yes, a over 10 lbs, sledgehammer like maul is a good wepon - when the opponent don't have a useful leg. Or they are a modern brick wall not over 4" or something.
Let's just take the "maul" as some pole hammer…
Tumblr media
Italian War Hammer, Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (14.25.465)
This 7.5 lbs, 80" antique warhammer is the heaviest pole hammer I know. And it far heavier and longer than usual.
Arms & Armor made a relatively faithful reproduction, made it on the usual weight and length.
Tumblr media
Italian Pole Hammer by Arms & Armor
It's only 4.6 lbs now. And 56.5" long.
So I believe a maul made for dwarves would be more like this:
Pointed War Hammer by Archangel Steel as Mandar's Spiked Maul
Tumblr media
Spiked Maul
This seems to have been made for extremely large hands, but even so, it is far heavier than one would expect.
Despite it is too heavy and unwieldy to be a weapon, this 10 lbs spiked hammer really catches what a "reasonable" Dwarven Maul should look like. If a human can using a 7.5 lbs warhammer, then 10 lbs for a strong dwarf isn't that ridiculous. Perhaps… My ideally Dwarven maul / warhammer will be 5 ~ 6 lbs and 4 ft long in general, BTW. Slightly heavier than human version, and suit for Dwarf's height. And like real pole hammers in real world, they're specifically using for dealling fully-armoured opponents in tournaments or duels.
*
And Durin bring his spear to duel a strong, slooow opponent, like Oberyn Martell did…
I always have an idea about the "Dwarven spear"… I mean, Spear is awesome, It is the "King of Weapons". There no reason for a typical warrior fantasy race like dwarf can't see the virtues of a long pointed stick. Have you seeing any dwarves with a spear before the Hobbit movies?
My "Dwarven spear" was a full tang spear - literally a flat metal bar with large pointed spear head. And wood are rare than bone for grip scales.
The construction just like this:
The Spit by Zombie Tools as Durin's Dueling Spear
Tumblr media
For its length, this full metal, modern Iklwa is too heavy. It's even heavier than most hand-and-a-half swords. Even so, it's still much agile than a 10 lbs hammer. And it looks really badass. And super durable. Good at deal with zombies or darkspawn.
The dueling Spear will be 4 ft long, just at the same length of mauls. The Dwarven war spear will be around 5 ~ 6 ft long, with long shaft and small blade. Under 5 lbs.
Durin win the dule. (His head is still complete - not like Oberyn Martell.)
"You slaughtered the heir to House Dace, one of the most powerful houses in Orzammar, because his father dared to challenge your house's honor."
He didn't kill Mandar, House Dace owe him their heir's life now.
Tumblr media
A grateful father and his powerful house is better than a grudge father and his powerful house.
"If you win glory against the darkspawn tomorrow, it will only strengthen the case for you as the next heir."
Durin made his steps to warning Trian: he have strength, and it more than enough to stop bullying.
***
2. As
The Exiled Prince
Tumblr media
Betrayed by a brother he truly loved, a shocked Durin find himself standing in the Deep Roads, with no shiny armour and helmet. But only some Tattered Prison Clothes. (Actually, they looks sturdy and comfortable - only the male version.)
And a dagger given by the guard.
My idea about this dagger like, it was made by inexperienced young dwarven smith to practise their skill. Such basic pieces were massively made, with cheap and low quality materials. And they're only being sold to those low-castes who can't afford expensive normal quality dwarven crafts. Dwarves won't export these to the surface to ruin the reputation of "Dwarven crafts! Fine dwarven crafts, direct from Orzammar. You won't find better."
Despite the humble source, this one is still a reliable weapon.
Pugio as Dwarven Dagger
Tumblr media
Blade of the Roman Pugio is good to express what a dwarven dagger should looks like. They're broad, beefy. But not chonky. They're true weapon designed for fight and kill.
Durin keep this dagger clean and untainted, only using it to deal meat of the deepstalkers - he survive long enough by eaten them. He never using it to fight and kill. He have a much better weapon.
*
"Your father asked me to give these to you. This sword and shield are of fine dwarven make. Strike a blow at our enemies."
Short Sword - 3D Crossguard by Archangel Steel as Fine Dwarven Blade
Tumblr media
Fine Dwarven Blade
This is a sword of excellent dwarven manufacture. The hilt is stamped with the markings of Clan Harrowmont.
The guard wider than the one as Gorim's sword. It have more space to hold some pretty ornaments. This sword was made for noble.
***
3. As
King of Orzammar
When he return to Orzammar after the Blight, Durin find he is already a king…
Tumblr media
As a king, Durin have a suit of golden armor to match his golden crown helmet ( Paragon-Forged Crown). He also have a golden sword and a golden shield (A  reproduction of Aeducan Shield). All made of Aurum Volcanic. They're great-quality, functional objects by themself. But highly-ornamented, and added lots of unnecessarily weights. So they will be almost only using for ceremonial.
He probably will looks like this when he wearing his ceremonial gear:
Tumblr media
Concept art of Dwarf Noble Origin
*
As king of Orzammar, Durin have very little chance back to front line of the battlefield or adventure. When he did, he will pick up a very functional sword.
Bastard Sword - Round Hilt by Archangel Steel as Kallak
Tumblr media
Kallak
This is Kallak the Sword of War.
The 28.5" blade for dwarves it's about a 36" blade for human. A common blade length of the longswords.
Durin will using the sword with two-handed, when he wearing full set of plate armor. Or half-armored, using the sword with a shield.
A bit of reality sauce: In the game, the model of "targe" was a round, domed shield, like the Rotella / Rodela shield and very different from the highland targe. Shield with full plate armor was an unusual combination on the battlefield in real history. However, they were using together for ceremonial and tournament.
*
King Durin always carry an enchanted Dwarven style dagger. The blade made of Dragonbone. The hilt will slightly ornamented by elegance carving.
Pugio by Anders Högström as King Durin's Dagger
Tumblr media
Update:
Legacy Pugio by Bertie Rietveld as King Durin's Dagger
Tumblr media
It is present from his powerful friend and ally - the Hero of Ferelden.
*
Durin still keep his two old daggers - the highly ornamented Noble's Dagger, and the cheap dagger he carrying when he being exiled to the Deep Roads. They will reminds him what the corrupted Orzammar politics can do to innocents, even they're a favored child of a king. He will do what he can, to stop this evil monster swallow his people before the darkspawn did.

101 DRAGON AGE QUESTIONS | not accepting
for the sake of reducing the number of ooc posts i’m answering these all in one and just @ing the people who asked the questions! thank you for them all!
if you sent me one of these btw and rbed this meme yourself and i didn’t send you something, please let me know! i want to send you things back and must have missed you reblogging the meme. this includes non-mutuals.
1. How did you get into Dragon Age? | asked by @kaaras-adaar & @dreamerlavellan
Sort of by accident, actually. It was the summer between my freshman and sophomore years in university (2011) and summertime is generally a time of inactivity and depression because I cannot tolerate the weather here. My dad happened to own Origins and I picked it up because??? Fantasy? RPG?
Starting the game I saw you could play as a dwarf, who have been my favourites in fantasy since a child as The Hobbit is among my favourite books. Then after that I fell in love with the worldbuilding for dwarves and Gorim, my first actual Dragon Age love. I was more or less hooked after that. DA was actually not my first Bioware game, I was obsessed with Jade Empire as a kid so like Origins appealed to me immediately despite being far less fun to play than literally any other Bioware game I’ve ever played. The characters and world more than made up for it.
I beat it relatively quickly and my dad bought Dragon Age II which had come out earlier that day, actually against my suggestion because I’d heard it wasn’t good. And in this instance my dad forgetting something I said turned out for the best because I ended up enjoying DAII more in some respects. While it took me a while to join the fandom as a content producer I was a consumer and certified DA trash from then on.
2. Have you finished all three games? | asked by @kaaras-adaar
Kskjdfs yes. I’ve beaten each at least 4 times, but probably more like 8. The only thing I haven’t played are some of the Origins DLC because as much as I enjoy my replays I am so ready to be out by the end of the game (and I have the worst luck with Awakening bugs) and I also don’t have Sebastians DLC b/c his never goes on sale individually and I refuse to spend more than like $4 on him.
3. How long did it take you to finish the series? | asked by @kaaras-adaar
I honestly don’t know. I think it took me like a week to beat Inquisition without 100%ing it, I’d say my first playthroughs all probably took about that long. I tend not to do everything in my first playthrough. Like shard collecting didn’t happen until round two, etc.
7. Favorite DA:O backstory? | asked by @dreamerlavellan & @fatefaulted
I’ve played through all of them and I enjoy them all except Cousland, but my favourite is Aeducan. I enjoy the politics, the culture, the aesthetic of Orzammar. I love Gorim Saelac and the surprising amount of depth to this character who is designed to be thrown away after the prologue. I love how it ties you to the Darkspawn threat in a bigger way than any of the origins accomplish. I love how it ties you to the Orzammar plot later in the game, and playing Aeducan first is probably one reason why I adore that branch of the game. It’s a good origin that establishes its world really well and has great characters to boot.
11. Share a pic of your favorite OC from any DA game. | asked by @dreamerlavellan
I just want to share pics of my girl and Solas’ future husband.
Tumblr media
Ian Lavellan, non-Inquisitor written by @theshirallen
Tumblr media
Thora Cadash, dwarven Inquisitor and default Inquisitor for this blog written by... me lmao.
22. Favorite DA2 party combo? | asked by @fatefaulted
My main Hawke is a mage Hawke, so this party is horrendously imbalanced, but: Varric, Merrill, Isabela. They all just like each other and I think that’s neat. Although in act one my favourite is probably Carver, Merrill, Isabela / Varric. Unfortunately the game doesn’t want me to have a warrior in my party.
24. Favorite main-story quest from DA:I? | asked by @kaaras-adaar
It’s hard to pick between In Hushed Whispers and In Your Heart Shall Burn. I love seeing the red lyrium’d companions and the dark future of Thedas, and speculating on what happened in the intervening year. I love reflecting on what it must do for the Inquisitor to see that and have it be undone. I think it sets up the rest of the game really well, and in ways Champions of the Just doesn’t do quite as well.
In Your Heart Shall burn is a simpler quest but I think the power and emotions in the quest are so raw. Playing this the first time was riveting and I was on the edge of my seat. The triumph of closing the Breach, the strangeness of your first encounter with Cole (whose appearance at the gates is another reason I prefer IHW tbh, I think it’s more tension building than Dorian’s), Corypheus, crawling through the snow. Capping it off with The Dawn Will Come and the journey to Skyhold idk, it’s just such an emotional high point in the series that every time I replay I get goosebumps.
25. Favorite DA:I place? | asked by @fatefaulted
It’s a tie between the Frostback Basin and the Emerald Graves. I love the lore in both, as elf trash I prefer the lore in the graves especially if I can include the Din’an Hanin into that category. But the Avvar lore and Ameridan is also Very Good, and while I adore the giant trees of the graves the Frostback Basin clearly was able to have more resources poured into its design, and as a result the different sections of the map have so much more character.
A close runner-up is the Hinterlands, as I think the quests there are fun and it feels like home. I enjoy returning to it. Which is good, b/c I’ve played through it... a lot... I think loving it might be a coping mechanism, but also I love the vibe of the early game that’s best captured in the Hinterlands.
32. Favorite DLC mission overall? | asked by @fatefaulted
Trespasser is up there with Shivering Isles as my favourite DLC ever produced. Its hits every emotional beat I think it needed to hit, set up the next game with greater detail and intrigue than the initial epilogue, and I’m honestly dying to get to replay it again on Thora despite what it does to my nerves. The first time I played it I could feel my heart beating faster like wtf me.
37. Blood magic: yes or no? | asked by @hopewrought
Would I use it myself? No. Morally I think it can be reprehensible but also neutral, much like any other magic in the game. In certain characters I think even if used for good it may encourage unhealthy habits, but I think it can be learned to be engaged with in better ways.
59. Who was written really poorly? | asked by @theshirallen you can’t hide behind anon I know it was you
Oghren fucking Kondrat. When I think about the reasons Origins is my least favourite game he is among them. With Oghren there was a really good chance to portray an alcoholic abuse victim, suffering from severe mental health issues, and still mourning his wife, with the respect it deserves. Instead he just... is a gross sexist dwarf and his alcoholism is mostly played for jokes. And then he comes back in Awakening and... continues to be a gross sexist dwarf whose alcoholism is mostly played for jokes.
There could have been some really interesting stuff with Oghren, the Warrior caste of dwarves I think would suffer from issues similar to qunari warriors, where when they can no longer fill the purpose society has dictated they must serve, what then? They can’t do anything but fight. There could be comradery with Sten, or perhaps Zevran or Alistair, or any of the companions who have had the path their lives took dictated to them by societal forces they had no say in (even if they are happy with that direction). There are snippets of good stuff in here, the line “let us show them our hearts, Warden, and then show them theirs” is one of the best of the good-byes the game offers us imo. It’s a shame about what came before.
Like there are other characters, such as Sera, who I think were done dirty by their writers, but Sera at least got some growth in the DLC and there were attempts to address criticism of her character. Oghren in Awakening was just kind of a take two of an already poorly-done arc.
60. Who do you wish had been given more story? | asked by @hopewrought
I wish Briala had more, like that she had some impact on the story in universes where Gaspard isn’t crowned with her as his puppetmaster. She and the elves reappears in that but not if you reunite her with Celene or exile her, and I think it would’ve been neat. I also wish she’d had a chance to interact with Solas in some small way given how many parallels were drawn by one of his own agents during Masked Empire.
I also wish we had more about dwarves in general in 2 and Inquisition. We get some great lore in Inquisition that was set up in 2, but with our only dwarf companion being Varric, who honestly has a relationship with his race that at times is comparable to Sera’s, it pulls a few of its punches. I really think they have dwarves set up to be important players in the next game, with their architecture featuring heavily in the dev diary, buuut no dwarves to be seen. So who knows. Just give me dwarves in the next game who aren’t Varric Bioware pls. Let me kiss one maybe.
61. Favorite NPC? | asked by @kaaras-adaar
I’m not going to count advisors even though they kinda are NPCs and I’m going to answer one for each game so uhh...
Origins - Anora
DA2 - Feynriel
DA:I - Krem
Bonus - Lord Woolsley, the only unproblematic DA character
63. Best story moment? | asked by @ghilannainguideme
It’s a tie between the journey to Skyhold and the talk with Solas at the end of Trespasser and the resulting disbanding of the Inquisition (if you so choose). I really can’t separate them because I think the reason Trespasser works so well is how it calls back to the very beginning of Inquisition and that moment with Solas in the snow. It’s triumphant and sad, something’s ending, the fellowship is breaking, but you know all of you will continue to work towards a better world apart.
In DA:O I think it’d be saying good-bye before the final battle and in DA2 I think the moment where you can tell the Arishok he was right to take in the elves who killed that guardmen is good. Probably one of the reasons why I think Hawke-Arishok work so well as a protagonist-antagonist combination.
81. Favorite fanfic? | asked by @ghilannainguideme
I don’t read a lot of fanfic, actually. Save what I read on here, which I do count, but idk if other people do.
My favourite writers to read are @theshirallen, obviously. Joly wants to tweakIan’s personal quest but I think the version they have written now is still very good and you can find it here. I love reading Peace’s stuff and find their smut especially spicy in the best possible way, you can find a Merrill/f!Mahariel piece here! Gaia doesn’t write on Tumblr much these days, but she wrote a wonderful Tug/Sketch (the companions from Leliana’s Song) that you can find here.
I follow so many talented writers and I can’t list them all but here are a few I can fire off real fast: @theshirallen / @ghilannainguideme / @seahaloed / @sabraelin / @valorcorrupt / @mercysought / @hopewrought / @ofrevas / @skyheld have all moved me with their words at some point, be it in fic or rp.
82. Favorite fanart/fanartist? | asked by @ghilannainguideme
Again I just can’t choose jsdfks.
The easiest way is to just link my Solas fanart tag. Obviously this favours Solas artists, however, so also here’s a link to thedaswlw where there’s a boatload of amazing fanart all of wlw.
Of people I’m mutuals with I know @abracafockyou, @kaaras-adaar, @dalathin (currently inactive but I gotta link them), and @syntharts are all very talented artists.  I’m also a big fan of destinyapostacy, nipuni, elbenherzart, starscollected (on twitter), and many more.
97. What’s your favorite DA mod? | asked by @ghilannainguideme & @hopewrought
I’ll chose one as many as I want to apparently from each game again, b/c why not?
DA:O - I have to admit I find this game hard to mod because nothing can really salvage the gameplay or look of the game. I need Better Dwarf Model so I don’t have to look at the odd dwarf proportions in the game (the women have arms for days). Mostly I have armour mods. I like Grey Wardens of Ferelden so I can match Alistair in the final batte and have everyone in uniforms in Awakening. I do like Kirkwall Exports because I can put Zevran in the robes of the notorious pirate tho. I haven’t used this mod yet but I also love this mod I retweeted this morning.
DA2 - Again, I don’t mod 2 very much. You could probably make some kind of chart for correlating my enjoyment of a game versus my urge to mod it, with the more I love a game means I want to mod it more. With 2 I enjoy the combat and overall design of the characters more so I mostly use a couple of tweaks, my favourite is Ishs Scarf for Merrill which just adds a cute blue scarf to Merrill and hides the fact that elves in this game have weirdly long necks. Oh and a mod to fix the weird hand dirt.
DA:I - Equal Opportunity Solas mod, I bought the game again on PC just to use it. Being able to play Solas/Ian for screencaps was everything tbh. Other mods I enjoy are More Banter, which while I have better luck with banter it is nice to be able to count on it. I installed it this latest pt and I have heard location comments that have never triggered before. Black Hair for Everyone has changed my life because finally Thora doesn’t have grey hair. No Dirt Buildup is also amazing, as the dirt can cause some really weird blotting on PCs that’s especially noticeable on dark-skinned Inquisitors.
99. Where would you live (Ferelden, Orlais, Free Marches etc?) | asked by @heysales
Probably Ferelden. It is fantasy England and hey if I make it past Inquisition maybe nothing will ever happen there again. Somewhere in the Free Marches might also be chill. Not Kirkwall. Maybe Starkhaven? Honestly tho I just want to live in the Frostback Basin. Have a spirit friend. Shake hands with nugs.
101. If you could meet your Warden/Hawke/Inquisitor, what would you say? | asked by @dreamerlavellan
If I met Thora I’d tell her I’m proud of her. She’d be confused, but that’s ok.

Fandom: Dragon Age Inquisition
Pairing: Cassandra x f!Hawke
Summary: Hawke thinks the Seeker needs to sleep. The Seeker insists she has to work. There's a compromise, and Iron Bull is seeing things that aren't there (yet).
Follow-up to this little baby.
AO3 | Pillowfort
______________________________________________________________
Leliana had a talent for getting ahold of people who should, by all reasonable rights, be unreachable. Whether it was her spy network, some frankly incredible message ravens, or simply a preternatural sense for letter delivery—truly, if there was someone who would be able to find Warden Aeducan, it would be Leliana. This unearthly talent was why, on a dusty field out in the Exalted Plains, Cassandra was going over missives from Leliana regarding the political situation in Nevarra. Leliana wanted to bring Nevarra in as an ally, and thought Cassandra’s ties with the Pentaghast family might offer some assistance. Cassandra did not want any part of any negotiations with Nevarra and she certainly did not want to go to Nevarra. Wasn’t this sort of thing what Josephine was for?
After a long day of chasing down halla and driving partisan fighters out of Dalish territory, all Cassandra wanted was to sleep. But work called, just as she knew the Inquisitor was in her own tent, making repairs on her staff. Winning over one little Dalish clan did not, quite honestly, seem like something that ought to be a priority, but Lavellan was determined. Cassandra had an inkling this might have something to do with how harshly the Inquisitor had been received by the clan. No one said “flat-ear”, but the sentiment was there. With a quick shake of her head, Cassandra brushed off the doubts. Either they trusted the Inquisitor’s sense of intuition or they didn’t—and so far, she’d done alright, guided by her advisors.
And now Cassandra was just lost in thought and had re-read the same sentence at least four times. She still had no idea what it said.
“Bit late for reading, isn’t it Seeker?” Cassandra’s gaze snapped upwards and she could not stop the heat that rose in her face when she saw Hawke at the entrance of her tent. As happened whenever she saw Hawke anymore, she was immediately and vividly reminded of that night in the Emerald Graves, and how the Champion’s dark eyes flashed in the moonlight, and how warm her mouth had been. Frantically, she tried to supplant this with recollections of earlier that day—Hawke sweaty and caked in dust, bellowing at Varric that it couldn’t possibly be this hard to herd a halla in the right direction! Success was less than ideal.
“Blame Leliana,” she said. “The spymaster never sleeps.”
“Sister Nightingale is a persistent one,” Hawke agreed, folding her arms and rocking back on her heels. “I’ll tell you, that one scares me, and not a lot of things do. Pretty sure if I tried to leave before this is through, she’d send someone to peel my skin off.” Cassandra snorted.
               “I think it’s doubtful, but I won’t say it’s never happened. I can’t be sure.”
“What is it she’s got you going over at this unkind hour of the night?” Hawke tipped her head slightly, making her bangs fall slanted across her forehead. She was again wearing the warpaint that had been absent from her face on her arrival at Skyhold—maybe the Champion was returning.
“She wants an alliance with Nevarra.”
“Ah, and she thinks Princess Pentaghast can help!” Cassandra’s withering scowl might accomplish with the Champion’s skin what Leliana’s knives hadn’t yet. But Hawke just stretched that infuriating grin across her face, leaning forward as she tipped back on her heels, and made Cassandra recall that this was a woman who had been best friends with Varric Tethras for the better part of a decade.
“If you call me that again, I’ll skin you myself.” Hawke laughed and walked in without further invitation, circling around behind Cassandra’s chair. Cassandra tried not to watch her, but that only meant that when the weight of the Champion’s hands came to rest on her shoulders, she nearly leaped out of her skin.
“Relax, Seeker,” cooed Hawke. She dug her thumbs into the muscles at the base of Cassandra’s neck and rubbed little circles. “You know what time it is?”
               “What time is it?”
“No idea, but the moon’s been up for a while, so I’m sure it’s time for bed.”
“But you’re here.” Cassandra meant to say something wittier or perhaps more flirtatious than that, but her face was too hot from the Champion’s hands on her to produce anything better.
“I just wanted to check on my favorite member of the Nevarran royal family before I go to bed,” Hawke declared, moving her thumbs out across Cassandra’s shoulders. The Seeker was unable to suppress a groan as Hawke’s fingers massaged her weary muscles. “You should rest, Cassandra,” the Champion said in a softer voice. The use of her first name, and the gentleness with which Hawke said it, made shivers run up Cassandra’s back. She swallowed hard, as if she could flush away the yearning that swelled low in her sternum, creeping up her chest. You should rest, Cassandra. She wanted to live in the sound of Hawke’s voice on that one phrase.
“I…need to finish this first,” she said. “I should get answers out as soon as possible.”
               “You should sleep,” Hawke disagreed.
“Shouldn’t you?” Cassandra countered. Hawke always seemed up at odd hours of the night, and whenever the Inquisitor gave them a moment to rest, Hawke was sleeping. Varric swore she could drop herself immediately into an unconscious state. Like a defense mechanism, he’d claimed. She had heard them up late in the campsite, talking in low voices, and once she’d exited her tent to take watch and seen Varric laying in the grass beside her, like he had fallen asleep keeping Hawke company.
“I’m not running the Inquisition,” Hawke countered, pressing her thumbs along Cassandra’s spine, again drawing an unbidden sound from the Seeker’s throat, low and pleasured. Cassandra bit down on that as soon as possible, realizing precisely what it sounded like. Worse, she couldn’t see Hawke’s face to gauge her reaction. She did note that Hawke’s hands stopped what they were doing, though she did not withdraw. The Seeker cleared her throat and stiffened her shoulders.
“That would be Inquisitor Lavellan, and last I looked, she was not sleeping either.”
“She should rest too, but I can only fight one war at a time,” Hawke said, and Cassandra could picture the wry smile twitching on her lips. “Just for a minute,” she coaxed. “I’ll stay with you.” It was on the tip of Cassandra’s tongue to point out that just a week ago, Hawke had been trying to tell her to stay away, that Hawke was trouble and heartbreak and disappointment. But she worried Hawke might remember and leave, so she said nothing.
“For a minute,” Cassandra allowed at last. It was good that Hawke took her hands from Cassandra’s shoulders, or she might never have gotten to her feet. Not bothering to remove her boots, she dropped onto her cot and lay down. She presumed Hawke would take her vacated chair, but instead the Champion lifted Cassandra’s feet so she could sit at the foot of the cot, and let Cassandra’s feet lay in her lap. As always, Hawke’s touch made Cassandra’s heart immediately leap into her throat, like it was trying to choke her to death before she could say something stupid. As frustrating as it was, it was probably for the best.
“You want to hear about a bar fight I got into with Isabela?” she asked, looking over at Cassandra. Her eyes were darker in the dim light of the tent, and the candles on Cassandra’s field table highlighted her cheekbones and the charming swoop of the bridge of her nose.
“Is that where you lost the tooth?” She cursed herself for asking as soon as she’d said it—why remind Hawke of it?—but the Champion just smiled.
“What, this?” she said, poking her tongue into the empty space beside her right canine tooth where her first bicuspid had once been. “Nah, that was another fight. I’ll tell you some other time.” Throwing an arm over Cassandra’s feet, she sank into “storyteller mode”, which was something she and Varric both did concerning their adventures in Kirkwall. Before she launched into it, she looked back at Cassandra. “You have to close your eyes though,” she stipulated.
“Then I might fall asleep.” Just a minute of rest, and she’d listen to Hawke tell her story, and then she’d finish those correspondences before going to bed.
“Then I’ll tell the story again. We’re resting now, Seeker.”
“You’re not.” Again, the hypocrisy! But then, if Hawke went to rest, she would return to her own tent, and Cassandra would be left alone. “Tell me the story.”
“So, I don’t know if you’ve ever experienced summer in Kirkwall…” Hawke did not even finish setting up the circumstances of the bar fight before Cassandra had fallen asleep. When she opened her eyes, the candles were nearly burned out—she would scold Hawke later for not putting them out—but then, she had only meant to close her eyes for a moment—and Hawke was still at the foot of the cot, toying absently with the laces of Cassandra’s boots, a far-off look on her face in which Cassandra saw far too many shadows. The memories of Kirkwall seemed to dance across her face and while Cassandra’s groggy mind could not cohesively remember them all, she did remember Varric’s bitterness when she confronted him about keeping Hawke hidden.
You people have done enough to her.
“You should rest, Champion,” she croaked. Her body was too heavy to get up now, just another minute, enough to rouse herself, and she would return to Leliana’s correspondence.
“Not enough room, Seeker,” Hawke said after a long moment processing Cassandra’s simple words.
“There’s plenty.” The cot was by no means made for two, especially not considering Cassandra’s breadth, but Hawke did not fight her anymore, crawling around to lay alongside her. By necessity, she threw an arm over Cassandra, and Cassandra couldn’t decide to turn towards or away from Hawke, so she simply stayed there on her back, with the Champion pressed against her shoulder. If she hadn’t been half-asleep still, her heart might have simply given way over the mere idea that the Champion of Kirkwall was cuddled against her on her own cot. Hawke’s breathing was soft and warm against her neck, and while Cassandra was already slipping into unconsciousness again, she could feel Hawke doing the same.
“’night,” Hawke murmured. Cassandra mumbled in reply, only an acknowledgement that Hawke had spoken, and then they were asleep.
***
Hawke awoke the next morning falling off the side of Cassandra’s cot and nearly taking the tent down with her. Miraculously, Cassandra slept through that, along with Hawke’s awkward and ungraceful creeping over the cot so she could slip out the tent entrance. Her back and neck were less than thrilled about the sleeping arrangements (Maker, how old was she?), but for the first time in ages she hadn’t dreamed at all, just drifted into blissful blackness. Relishing the thought, Hawke emerged from the Seeker’s tent and stretched as far as her limbs would allow. The sun had just come up over the horizon, bathing the wide grass plains in weak yellow light and making the crest of the forest across the river seem to glow. A faint mist emanated off the water, giving the whole area a murky, dreamy feel that would fade into gruesome reality as the sun burned away the fog. Hawke breathed deeply of the cool, gritty air and wondered how Merrill was doing.
The Iron Bull, sitting by the smoldering fire pit as the last watchman, glanced very quickly between Hawke, and Cassandra’s tent. But he said nothing as Hawke ambled over and picked up a kettle of coffee to put over the fire. She jabbed the embers and tossed some more wood onto it. She was still not over their traveling with a Qunari, but far from the fight Hawke had expected when he found out she was the one who had slain the Arishok, The Iron Bull seemed simply in awe of the human who had managed such a feat. He had wanted the whole story as soon as he met her, as he had only ever gotten it through a long chain of re-tellings. She had been the talk of Par Vollen for some time, he said, which sounded almost like a threat.
“Sleep well?” Iron Bull asked at last.
“Better than I have in decades,” Hawke replied. Before she could elaborate, or Bull could pose another question, Varric crawled out of their tent, pleased as ever to have to wake up with the sun, or any time before noon.
“And where were you last night?” he exclaimed, seeing Hawke seated at the fire. “Not wandering around slaying bandits, I hope.” He’d already brushed his hair back out of his face and tied it back, and looked far more put-together than Hawke, whose rumpled clothing and untidy hair suggested odd, or at least careless, sleeping arrangements.
“Without you? Perish the thought. Do you want any coffee?” The Iron Bull was looking between Hawke, and Varric, and Cassandra’s tent, and Hawke was beginning to realize the assumptions that were being made, but she didn’t have the energy to argue them, nor did she care enough to bother. She combed her hands through her hair in a cursory effort at neatening it.
By the time the coffee was warm enough to bother drinking, the Inquisitor was up and practicing some sparkly spell or another just outside of camp while Inquisition soldiers surreptitiously observed, and Cassandra came shuffling out of her tent, looking, Hawke thought, well-rested. The Iron Bull let out a low chuckle.
“Well done, Cass,” he said with a roguish grin. Cassandra blinked, Hawke said nothing, and Bull winked, to congratulate Cassandra on nailing the Champion of Kirkwall.
“I don’t know what you’re talking about, and it’s too early to care,” she said, throwing herself down beside Hawke and thrusting a tin mug out wordlessly to be filled. Graciously, Hawke filled it up. One night of rest was great, but they had a lot to do.
“Is everyone ready to move on?” Lavellan approached the group of them. “Our soldiers should have repaired the bridge, so I believe we can make it over the river by mid-day if we leave now…” She glanced around at her companions, nursing themselves into consciousness.
“I’m ready when you are, commander,” Hawke said with an errant salute. Lavellan’s gaze turned to Cassandra and she smiled.
“Did you finally get some sleep last night, Cassandra?” The Iron Bull snorted, and Varric’s eyes sharpened, turning his attention to Hawke.
“I did, yes. I’m ready to pack now, if you are.” She downed the rest of her coffee, grimacing at the taste, and rose to her feet.
“Oh, I imagine the Seeker’s feeling great,” Iron Bull said. Varric whipped his scrutinizing gaze to the Qunari.
“Oh, no.” Judging by the repulsed expression budding on Varric’s face, Hawke guessed he at least had figured out what The Iron Bull was implying.
“What are you looking at?” Cassandra asked him, tensing for a fight.
“Let’s get these tents broken down!” Hawke exclaimed, slapping Cassandra on the back as she leaped to her feet. “Say, Varric, help me with these little ones we’re taking with us.” They dispersed to work, and Cassandra was saved a while longer from a discussion on the nature of her relationship with the Champion.

songs to ship by
I was tagged by @kawaterrier to list 5-10 ship songs. Thank you so much!
I invite @aylaaescar, @consulaaris, @czandziowata, @etoilebinaire and @lavampira to also experience this Mortifying Ordeal of Being Known. (It's fun!)
I'm not nearly prepared enough to make them ~consistent ~, as in: from just a single ship playlist, so here's a bunch of everything.
Also half of them are in Polish and I'm not giving you any translations because I missed Tumblr's Speak Your Language Day for the xth time in a row and I'm taking this chance to make up for it. Woe, Polish be upon ye!
1. IGNACY - Czekam Na Znak
Tylko czekam na znak Czekam i tak Rób co tylko zechcesz Chwytaj mnie za serce
This is such a Juliander Strzygomski/Chase Trinaeste song. I won't explain it. It just is.
2. Sarsa - Tęskno Mi
Zobacz ile mogło być takich chwil Naiwne dziecko jestem i tęsknię dziś Do Ciebie, bez Ciebie miało być mi lżej
Does it fit the requirements? Anyway, I have this on my Emerald Aeducan/Alistair Theirin playlist so it counts.
3. Cleo - Za Krokiem Krok
Chodzę dziś znów (Chodzę znów) Tobie po głowie Za krokiem krok (Tup, tup, tup) Tupet masz i nie powiesz
If you know me, you know that annoyances to (friends to) lovers is one of my biggest weaknesses.
4. Feel, Lanberry - Gotowi Na Wszystko
Bo nic już nie liczy się bardziej niż my Gotowi na wszystko, na każdą z tych chwil Wciąż zaplątani w miłości nić Poprowadź mnie, poprowadź mnie (Poprowadź mnie) Chcę tam być
Technically, I don't have this on any of my ship playlists BUT I love this song so much and I guess I could make it about Bogumiła Niepołomska/Red Antiqua?
5. Happysad - Zanim pójdę
Miłość to żaden film w żadnym kinie ani róże ani całusy małe, duże. Ale miłość - kiedy jedno spada w dół, drugie ciągnie je ku górze.
The irony of me not liking this song only to want to scream-sing it from the rooftops. Classic Karolina.
6. Dua Lipa - Love Again
I never thought that I would find a way out I never thought I'd hear my heartbeat so loud I can't believe there's something left in my chest anymore But goddamn, you got me in love again
...my smug satisfaction when I saw the author of WTS confirm it as a K de Vries song. Can't wait to romance them and make this song fully canon.  <3
7. Saint Motel - Cold Cold Man
You're the only one worth seeing The only place worth being The only bed worth sleeping's the one right next to you
SCREAMING. Thank you, Dani, for introducing me to Saint Motel's music.
8. Travie McCoy - Need You
I know it's not your fault, but I’m a locked door And inside, I'm a mess by someone before And I wish that I, I could find a key To unlock all the things you want us to be
This song was a blast when I listened to it maniacally in Simlish, this song proved to be even more of a blast when I rediscovered it in English. Such an Emerald Aeducan song.
9. Ella Eyre - Deeper
And I don't think I'm ready To go in this heavy I thought we would take it slow And now you got that feelin' You say that you mean it But for me, I just don't know
Another Emerald Aeducan staple. I’m playing favourites, I know, but it’s because I’ve had my Emerald/Alistair playlist the longest.
10. Vance Joy - Riptide
Lady, running down to the riptide Taken away to the dark side I wanna be your left-hand man
I don't have a ship for this snippet just yet but I WILL. I will.

Emerald giving Rasha a friendly peck on the cheek (or vice versa) would be absolutely hilarious. Look at their height difference! I mean, I know that Cadash/Iron Bull is a thing but still. Are boxes/stools/etc. involved? Is Rasha sitting? Just... how???

The stairs of the winter palace are perfect for their height difference 💕Oc kiss week prompt 3: fancy! Emerald belongs to @reverienne, Rasha is mine

Thank you @midnightprelude, @kunstpause, and @fandomn00blr for your tags today ❤
I also think @dismalzelenka, @ironbullsvitaar, and @ashalle-art tagged me on Sunday!
This is a little snippet from a project I'm working on with @jarakrisafis that focuses on our shared Aeducan-verse. Please enjoy these snarky Aeducan siblings and a nug.
“What in the name of the Stone is that?” Trian asks, his eyes latching onto the nug in her arms.
“A bronto, clearly,” Sereda answers with sarcasm immediately, finding Bhelen and raising an eyebrow. “Someone gifted it to me for my name day.”
“I’m innocent,” Bhelen claims, throwing his hands up in the air. “I don’t have the slightest idea where that came from.”
“Well I didn’t buy it!”
Behind Bhelen, Vartag coughs and straightens from where he leans against the wall. Sereda looks at Bhelen’s dark haired Second, who smiles apologetically.
“I believe that’s a gift from Michal Vollney, my lady,” he offers. “He was quite excited to surprise you with it.”
Trian makes a noise of disgruntlement and spears Vartag with a piercing look.
“Aren’t you meant to be seen and not heard?” he asks.
Bhelen shifts slightly, inclining his body towards Vartag in defense even though he still appears to be lazing in his chair. Sereda fixes Trian with a glare of her own, hoisting her nug up over her shoulder.
“If only that were true of people who can’t tell what a nug is.”
I'm trying out a smaller selection of rotating tags! So this week I'll be tagging: @dismalzelenka, @musetta3, @curiousthimble, @hobo-apostate, @ashalle-art, @noire-pandora, @lavellanvibes, @little-lightning-lavellan, @emerald-amidst-gold, and @natsora ❤❤
