I don't know who needs to hear his but the MCU makes absolutely no sense if you see Sam Wilson as Straight.

Let's start with Captain America and the Winter Soldier. Most blockbusters have the same ingredients: a Main Character, the Main Character's best friend and the Main Character's love interest. Because she's a woman, most people would assume that Natasha was the love interest, but if you think about it, Steve has known Natasha for a long time, they're well established friends and their scenes together including that escalator scene cemented the fact that their relationship was to be seen as platonic. So Natasha is filling out the role of the Main Character's best friend.

Sam Wilson on the other hand, gets the meet cute, the flirting, the Steve staying the night over with his best friend, the cute hospital scene... Sam is the Main Character's love interest.

In Age of Ultron, Sam is Steve's date. In Civil War, Sam is Steve's funeral date (who even brings a date to a funeral...??I'm looking at you Gary from A million little things), I don't even know how to describe that Civil War end scene. In Avengers Endgame, Sam and Bucky were all but married.

And let's not even talk about the Falcon and the Winter Soldier where all Sam does is flirt with either Torres or Bucky. After numerous ambiguous scenes including couples therapy, longing looks inside a boat and a heart-to-heart talk, the show gave us one the the most, if not the most romantic scene in MCU history with Sam walking away from a sunset while holding his partner.
