I've been riding buses for years because I'm poor and don't own a car, so here's some advice on riding public buses if you haven't before:
Have your payment/swipe card ready before boarding! Don't be the a hole who holds everyone else up looking for your swipe card
Know your route and fare ahead of time. Most times this can be found online with info on where to get weekly/monthly/discounted swipe passes if that's your jam
Get the bus before the one you think you need. If there's a breakdown/backup then you'll be thankful to be early instead of really really late
If your bus is early to the stop one of two things are going to happen: the bus before was running late and the entire ride is going to be cramped OR your bus is actually early and the driver is going to take a longer break than usual eventually
Don't assume the bus will stop if you are sitting down at the stop. I've seen buses blow past little old ladies and children because they didn't move to get up or flag down the bus.
If the stop you're at is requested, the buses four ways will probably be flashing and will stop with or without your imput
If the wrong bus looks like it's going to stop for you, a little wave off or throat cutting motion or exaggerated shaking of the head is polite so the driver can keep on going.
BUS DRIVERS TAKE BREAKS. I don't know why this surprises all new bus passengers. At some point, a driver will pull to the side of the road and get off. They may or may not announce why this is happening. Drivers take breaks when they are due for one or the bus is ahead of schedule. If you're running late, that's not their fault
Sometimes, one bus on a route catches up to another one. This leads to some fun enrichment to your life because the results of a late and early bus meeting are always interesting. Sometimes one bus will transfer all of its passengers to the other bus which is logical, but I've also seen the two drivers just race each other stop to stop so there are no real rules. The most important thing is to listen to the driver if they make an announcement!
Are you going east or west? North or South? Uptown downtown? I can't tell you the amount of times someone has hopped on the right route in the wrong direction. Double check before you step
OFFER YOUR SEAT TO PEOPLE WHO MAY NEED IT ESPECIALLY ON PACKED BUSSES OR IF YOU ARE SITTING IN THE HANDICAP SPACE!
Seriously be ready to offer your seat to pregnant people, people with kids, disabled folks, elderly folks, tired people, people holding a lot of stuff, or anyone who seems like they need it more than you. The bus karma will equal out and your good deed will get rewarded in the future in some way
The general rule is enter at the front door, exit through the backdoor unless you're in the first few rows.
People getting on wait for people getting off. No one likes the person who pushes their way against the flow
If you're afraid of getting creeped on (it happens no matter what sometimes) and the bus is relatively empty, sit in the aisle seat and put your bag on the window seat until you have to move over for someone not creepy
The only people who have made me uncomfortable on a bus are white men so I tend to not sit next to them. Yes this is me leaning into my own bias. I will stop when they do
You are not better than the homeless people you share your commute with. The bus is for everyone
My favorite seats are the ones where no one is behind me because you have someone touch the back of your head one time and you're never the same
No one will probably tell you off for playing your music through a speaker but everyone will want to stab you
Headphones will not eliminate the possibility that someone will talk to you but will make it more unlikely
Don't fucking talk to people with headphones ???
You will get annoyed the third time you see a fight break out then wonder when you stopped being concerned
You have an inexplicable connection with the people who share your route. Most of the times it's sexual
No one wants to be on the bus. They would rather be at their destination. You are not alone in your annoyance so don't be a jerk because you feel like you're the only one that matters
Watch your fellow passengers to figure out how to signal for your stop.
The Best Buses Have Pull Chords!
The stop requested signal will only ding once so if someone else signals before you, you won't get the satisfaction.
Most people pull for their stop halfway between the stop before and the stop desired. Others do it as soon as the bus pulls away from the stop before. Just don't be the person who waits until the driver is at the stop
If a bus goes over railroad tracks, the driver will stop and open the door to listen for the train. This means that if you requested a stop, you need to request again because the process erases the request.
I normally make my way to the backdoor as my stop approaches. This is considered "unsafe"
Thank the driver either verbally or with a handwave when you get off. They just broke the speed limit to get you to your stop without killing anyone. That's more than a cop has ever done
I'm sure there's a lot more advice and some things that are area specific. Feel free to add your own petpeeves suggestions!

Tumblr media
London city has many modes of transportation which are available for all travellers. The city has five major airports such as the London city Airport, Heathrow, Gatwick, Luton and Stansted offering flights to various destinations around the world. In order to travel to and from airports in and around London, there are several modes of transportation such as Taxis, the London underground, over ground trains, private hire taxis, buses and coaches. For one to find the best way to reach their desired destination from any of these major airports could be overwhelming because of its wide range of travelling options? If you are planning a visit to London for the first time, it is best recommended to planning your journey ahead. Your preferred mode of transportation can be chosen based upon fares, comfort, distance, reliability and convenience especially when travelling with kids or the elderly.
For a comfortable time saving and hassle-free journey, Hire London City Airport Taxis are the best option especially for first time travellers. Though black taxis are available at an easy reach, however they lack in many features when compared to private taxis and minicabs. Black taxis are generally not a preferred choice for various reasons, such as the lack of options choosing your preferred vehicle type, child seats, no 24/7 customer support to assist, inconsistent fares and in turn is not the desired choice for many passengers. Extensive services offered are the London Airport taxi, Heathrow Airport Taxi, Gatwick Airport Taxi, London Luton Airport Taxi, London Stansted Airport Taxi, London Southend Airport Taxi and London City Airport Taxi Service.
Every passenger who lands in any of London, through any of its 5 major airports will for sure look for an affordable and reliable transfer service for an easy airport pickup. Private Taxis and Minicabs will be the most preferred choice for the passengers as they have the option to pre-book their journey well in advance allowing you to sit back and relax and let the professional drivers transfer you to your destination with ease. Additional added benefits include a free flight monitoring service, 30 minutes additional free waiting time, a meet and greet service, child seats option, 24/7 helpdesk team support service that is available 24 hours, 365 days a year. Most of all the level of comfort and luxury can never be matched when compared with private hire taxis and minicabs.
In order to choose the best London private minicabs and taxis, there are certain factors to be considered when you are going to choose a taxi company. Some of the factors may be important, especially for people visiting for business, international tour, restaurants, hotels, etc.
Majority of people will always look for a private transportation when it comes to travelling to and from any of the major London airports. After long flights traveler`s will always look out for a suitable and hassle free airport pickups London to reach their destination having nothing to worry about.  Many airport transfer private firms do provide free flight monitoring service. Thus considering the airport transfer firms that specializes in providing airport taxi London transfer is most important mainly if you travel to London for the first time.
With good connectivity and good access why should I consider Airport taxi or private hire minicab?
Time is valuable
Travelling between airports can be challenging if you have a short time span to consider. You can avoid the need of rushing to catch a train or a coach dragging your numerous luggages. Airport taxis can come in useful as it is easy to book online and you’ll have drivers waiting for you with a name card to assist you reaching your destination on time.
Travelling to other places in and around London whether it be visiting seaports, hotels or restaurants by public transport, needs planning and looking into  timetables for various transports timings, but with airport taxi transfers it is easy and relaxed as they are just a few clicks away and available all the time and throughout the year.
Experience Luxury and Comfort
Airport taxi services provide comfort and luxury as there are many types of vehicles available to suit your specific needs. Whether it be just three, six, seven, eight or a even a group of around 52 travellers you can still go in style by choosing the type of vehicle that can easily accommodate passenger numbers along with ample space for your baggage. Child/Infant seats can be requested at the time of booking to help your child travel in ease.
Friendly drivers will help you right from the arrivals area until you reach your destination. They will help with carrying your luggage to the car park and drive you safely and swiftly. They will regale you with tales of London, places to visit or dine as they are mostly from the neighborhood. You can quit worrying about the traffic and start to enjoy the magnificent side of London.
Accessible and No Fuss
To travel by public transport you need to keep in mind the waiting in queues, effort taken to reach the railway station or the bus stop, can at times be tedious, whereas airport Taxis and Minicabs offer door-to-door service. Airport transfers can be booked online or by just a call for your travel needs, whether to and from the airport or from anywhere in and around London with a few simple steps on their online platforms.
Economical
Airport transfers are cheap and economical taking into light the factors that describe them. Fares are transparent; you pay what you see at the time of booking. You get additional discounts when you book online. When you are in large numbers and require to co-ordinate the group it is simpler and inexpensive. Whereas, with public transport it can be expensive where you might have to change buses or trains and pay for every separate journey to reach your destination. Hailing a black cab or taxi can be a little more extra as prices vary based on ones requirements.
Looking Out for Taxi Services
The services provided by Airport Taxi in London City can outweigh the benefits of using public transport. Airport taxi transfers offer to monitor your flights for takeoff and landing to make it easier for Airport pickups or drop offs London. You have the facility to track the vehicle location and committed staffs are available 24/7 to assist you with your queries and bookings.
You can ask for stopovers and diversions at the time of booking which might not be possible with public transport. Airport transfers do not rest as you can avail their service all through the year and at odd hours or during holidays when public transport can be reduced or not available. With all these benefits and extras Airport Taxi Services in London can be the way to go.

How can you use Dubai metro?
Being one of the longest driverless metro networks in the world, the Dubai Metro is something which is used not only by the local inhabitants of Dubai but also by the millions of tourists coming to visit Dubai. The metro is designed for relieving the traffic on the roads of Dubai. Dubai metro is almost 80 km long and features a total of 49 stations covering all the major locations of the city. It is one of the first urban train networks in the Arabian Peninsula.
If you are planning a trip to Dubai, then using the Dubai Metro will be a very good option as it saves time and money. As you know the fact that Dubai is costly and so as the private transports like local taxis and cabs. If you haven’t thought of your mode of conveyance in Dubai, then trust me you will never going find any cheaper mode apart from Dubai metro. You can use the Dubai Metro for your sightseeing trips, shopping trips and many more as it is commuting all over the city.
While travelling in Dubai Metro, the most basic things that you need to know is about the metro route and the fares of the metro. Well, in this article, we are providing the details of the metro route as well as the fares, and other inevitable knowledge that you need to know about Dubai Metro.
 About the train lines:
The Dubai Metro is driver less and fully automated metro network which runs partly in the underground and partly through elevated viaducts. So far there are two lines constructed one is red line another is the green line. The red line is running from Rashidiya to Jebel Ali while the Green line runs from Al Qusais to Dubai Creek. Redline has a total of 29 stations and the Green line has total 20 stations as of now. However, the Dubai metro is going to extend their network until 2020.
Metro fares:
Now coming about the fares, for a single journey, your fare will range from Dh1.8 to a maximum of Dh6.5 depending on how much distance you’ve covered which is very less compared to private cabs. However, with that fare, you can also have the privilege to use public buses for the same distance as well as metro. Elderly people and students will receive a special discounted metro fare.
Dubai Metro: A handy guideline for tourists
If you are visiting Dubai for the first time, then it will be quite hectic for you to find the transport and communications from the airport itself as Dubai International Airport is very big. People come to the airport and confuse about the way they want to go. Here in this article, we will provide you the basic guidelines about Dubai Metro so that you can use it while traveling with ease.
Simply you can buy a ticket for your destination from the metro station and you are ready to roam around the city. Or else you can go for one NoI top-up card which is very efficient and easy to use. In order to avoid the long queue in the Dubai Metro, NoI card is the best option. Recharge the amount and travel hassle free.
How will you reach Dubai Metro from Dubai Airport?
After landing from the flight, you can reach the Dubai Metro from the airport itself. If you head directly towards Terminal 1 or Terminal 3, then you can reach Dubai Metro. You will find Redline in the airport that runs from either Jebel Ali or Rashidiya. Well, we will suggest you catch the Jebel-Ali bound train for your metro city tour.
• After entering the station, you will find the ticket counter and buy the ticket while letting him know about your destination.
• Tap your card against the card reader to enter the gate. Wait for the green light, then you can enter.
• Once, you enter the station, follow the directions on the board, you will reach to the platform from where you will board the train.

• Keep your card with you as you will need that during the time of exit.
• At exit gate, your ticket or NoI card will be required for exiting out the station. Again, follow the directions to the metro station, you will be able to find the gate that will lead to your destination.

In any special festival and events, in order to cope up with the crowd, the number of trains will increase. Apart from that, the frequency of train also increases. The gap reduces from 10 minutes to 3 minutes during the peak hours.
Train timings:
The trains usually run from Saturdays to Thursday from 6am to 11pm and from 2pm to 12am on Fridays.

Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa:In this station, you can see both the iconic attractions of Dubai Mall and Burj Khalifa. A Metro Link Bridge is there through which you can reach these areas. It is an air-conditioned walkway of 828m long.
BurJuman:It is an important station where you can have the scope to change from red line to the green line. The station is nearby to many famous attractions in Dubai such as BurJuman Mall, Spice Souk, Gold Souk, Textile Souk, Dubai Creek, etc. Dubai Creek is the area where you can get access to many kinds of popular attractions of Dubai.
Mall of Emirates:From this second, you can easily hop on to the second largest mall in the city, i.e. Mall of Emirates. Shopaholics, this is the ideal destination for you. You can complete your trip with the indoor ski slope.
Dubai is a place for unlimited opportunities. It is a city that welcomes all kinds of tourists as you will find attractions that will entertain tourists of all ages. You can hop on and hop off through the city while using Dubai Metro in a quite cheap way. However, there are some places where the metro is not connected. Hence, to reach that place, you need to use any other public transport or private transport based on your conveyance.

London Grocery Chain Encourages Shoppers to Bring Their Own Tupperware

Why stop at bringing your own grocery bags to the store? One London grocery wants you to BYO-Tupperware. The London Evening Standard reports that a UK chain called Planet Organic has partnered with Unpackaged—a company dedicated to sustainable packaging—to install self-serve bulk-food dispensers where customers can fill their own reusable containers with dry goods, cutting down on plastic packaging waste.
To use the system, customers walk up and weigh their empty container at a self-serve station, printing and attaching a label with its tare weight. Then, they can fill it with flour, nuts, or other kinds of dry goods, weigh it again, and print the price tag before taking it up to the check out. (Regular customers only have to weigh their containers once, since they can save the peel-off label to use again next time.)
Planet Organic is offering cereals, legumes, grains, nuts, chocolate, dried fruit, and even some cleaning products in bulk as part of this program, significantly reducing the amount of waste shoppers would otherwise be taking home on each grocery trip.
Zero-waste grocery stores have been popping up in Europe for several years. These shops, like Berlin’s Original Unverpackt, don’t offer any bags or containers, asking customers bring their own instead. This strategy also encourages people to buy only what they need, which eliminates food waste—there’s no need to buy a full 5-pound bag of flour if you only want to make one cake.
The concept is also gaining traction in North America. The no-packaging grocery store in.gredients opened in Austin, Texas in 2011. The Brooklyn store Package Free, opened in 2017, takes the idea even further, marketing itself as a one-stop shop for “everything that you’d need to transition to a low waste lifestyle.” It sells everything from tote bags to laundry detergent to dental floss.

Germany Wants to Fight Air Pollution With Free Public Transit
Michael Gottschalk, AFP/Getty Images
Getting people out of their cars is an essential part of combating climate change. By one estimate, getting people to ditch their two-car household for just one car and a public transit commute could save up to 30 percent in carbon dioxide emissions [PDF]. But how do you convince commuters to take the train or the bus? In Germany, the answer may be making all public transit free, according to The Local.
According to a letter from three of Germany’s government ministers to the European Union Environment Commissioner, in 2018, Germany will test free public transit in five western German cities, including Bonn. Germany has failed to meet EU air pollution limits for several years, and has been warned that it could face heavy fines if the country doesn’t clean up its air. In a report from 2017, the European Environment Agency estimated that 80,767 premature deaths in Germany in 2014 were due to air pollution.
City officials in the regions where free transport will be tested say there may be some difficulty getting ahold of enough electric buses to support the increase in ridership, though, and their systems will likely need more trains and bus lines to make the plan work.
Germany isn’t the first to test out free public transportation, though it may be the first to do it on a nation-wide level. The Estonian capital of Tallinn tried in 2013, with less-than-stellar results. Ridership didn’t surge as high as expected—one study found that the elimination of fares only resulted in a 1.2 percent increase in demand for service. And that doesn’t necessarily mean that those new riders were jumping out of their cars, since those who would otherwise bike or walk might take the opportunity to hop on the bus more often if they don’t have to load a transit card.
Transportation isn’t prohibitively expensive in Germany, and Germans already ride public transit at much higher rates than people do in the U.S. In Berlin, it costs about $4 a ride—more expensive than a ride in Paris or Madrid but about what you’d pay in Geneva, and cheaper than the lowest fare in London. And there are already discounts for kids, students, and the elderly. While that doesn’t necessarily mean making public transit free isn’t worth it, it does mean that eliminating fares might not make the huge dent in car emissions that the government hopes it will.
What could bring in more riders? Improving existing service. According to research on transportation ridership, doing things like improving waits and transfer times bring in far more new riders than reducing fares. As one study puts it, “This seldom happens, however, since transport managers often cannot resist the idea of reducing passenger fares even though the practice is known to have less impact on ridership.”
The same study notes that increasing the prices of other modes of transit (say, making road tolls and parking fees higher to make driving the more expensive choice) is a more effective way of forcing people out of their cars and onto trains and buses. But that tends to be more unpopular than just giving people free bus passes.

Watch an Antarctic Minke Whale Feed in a First-of-Its-Kind Video
WWF
New research from the World Wildlife Fund is giving us a rare glimpse into the world of the mysterious minke whale. The WWF worked with Australian Antarctic researchers to tag minke whales with cameras for the first time, watching where and how the animals feed.
The camera attaches to the whale’s body with suction cups. In the case of the video below, the camera accidentally slid down the side of the minke whale’s body, providing an unexpected look at the way its throat moves as it feeds.
Minke whales are one of the smallest baleen whales, but they’re still pretty substantial animals, growing 30 to 35 feet long and weighing up to 20,000 pounds. Unlike other baleen whales, though, they’re small enough to maneuver in tight spaces like within sea ice, a helpful adaptation for living in Antarctic waters. They feed by lunging through the sea, gulping huge amounts of water along with krill and small fish, and then filtering the mix through their baleen.
The WWF video shows just how quickly the minke can process this treat-laden water. The whale could lunge, process, and lunge again every 10 seconds. “He was like a Pac-Man continuously feeding,” Ari Friedlaender, the lead scientist on the project, described in a press statement.
The video research, conducted under the International Whaling Commission’s Southern Ocean Research Partnership, is part of WWF’s efforts to protect critical feeding areas for whales in the region.
If that’s not enough whale for you, you can also watch the full 13-minute research video below:

The best methods of Brickell Transportation
Brickell Transportation
When it comes to living, working, playing and enjoying Miami, residents are lucky to have many different options and choices to pick from. From the wide range of professional and educational opportunities, to the various types of real estate, entertainment and restaurants, Miami is ever-changing and evolving to keep up with the people who live there. The affluent neighborhood of Brickell is no different, and offers residents many choices when it comes to where they live, where they go and how they get there. Everybody knows about Miami’s notoriously clogged streets, so we’ll talk about the multitude of other transport options Miami has to offer.
Public transportation is a luxury that many locals take advantage of — and take for granted — on a daily basis, as it saves them from dealing with traffic and putting miles on their personal vehicles. There are four main ways people get to and from Brickell Plaza, other than driving: bus, trolley, Metromover and Metrorail.
Bus Transportation
There are over 1,000 busses that cover 90 different routes in Miami. Bus rides start at $2.25 per trip, but most Brickell locals use an EasyCard or Easy Ticket that they purchase online. This allows them to pre-pay the bus fare instead of digging for change for every ride. Some busses run 24 hours a day, but all bussescan be tracked in real time using a new Bus Tracker program.
Trolley
The trolley is a casual and fun way to explore the city, and the best part is, it’s free! You can see all of the places the trolley stops in and around Brickell here. The trolley is air-conditioned and runs from 6am to 11 pm every day except Sunday. Riders can get on and off as many times as they want, and assistance is available or riders with disabilities.
Metrorail
The Metrorail is Miami’s transit system that zips over the city on an elevated track, covering 25 miles. There are 23 stations, all about a mile apart and uses about 136 train cars. It starts at Dadeland South Station in Kendall and continues north through Downtown and Coral Gables. The Brickell station is at 1001 SW First Avenue and is a great option for people heading to the financial district. This station is a 7-minute walk from The Brickell Plaza. It costs $2 to ride the Metrorail, but students in grades 1-12, Medicare recipients and people with disabilities can get a discount. A $100 monthly pass is also a popular option.
Metromover
The Metromoveris another free option for public transportation through Brickell. This electric people mover system covers 4.4 miles and runs from 5am to midnight Sunday through Thursday, and 5am to 2am on Fridays and Saturdays. This is a great option for people who are in a rush, as cars arrive every 90 seconds during rush hour, and every three minutes during slower times. These cars are made for standing passengers, but seats are available for the elderly or those with disabilities. Many Metromover passengers transfer to the Metrorail to get to destinations that are further out. The Brickell stop for the Metromover is at Brickell City Centre on 8 street, and is a seven-minute walk from the Brickell Plaza.
With such a wide variety of things to do and see in Brickell, residents of this vibrant neighborhood appreciate having many different ways to get around the city. Whether you hop on the bus, trolley, Metrorail or Metromover, getting around Brickell is always an adventure.
