Karol Mikuli

🇵🇱 22 października 1819 roku w Czerniowcach przyszedł na świat Karol Mikuli,  pianista, kompozytor i pedagog, w latach 1844-1847 uczeń Fryderyka Chopina. Pochodził z rodziny o korzeniach ormiańskich. Był pierwszym za ziemiach polskich wydawcą dzieł Chopina - w siedemnastu tomach opublikował wszystkie jego utwory. Edycja Mikulego przez dziesięciolecia była najpopularniejszym na świecie wydaniem chopinowskiej spuścizny. Mikuli koncertował w Polsce i w innych krajach. Od 1857 działał we Lwowie, gdzie był profesorem konserwatorium, w którym wykształciło się wielu wybitnych pianistów. Zmarł we Lwowie 21 maja 1897 roku. Jest pochowany na Cmentarzu Łyczakowskim.

🇬🇧 On 22nd October 1819, Karol Mikuli was born. He was a pianist, composer and teacher, one of the students of Fryderyk Chopin (1844-1847). He was born in Czerniowce (now Chernivtsi) to Armenian family. He was the first one to publish Chopin’s oeuvre in Poland - in 17 volumes. For decades, the Mikuli edition was the most popular edition of Chopin’s works in the world. He was the concert pianist and performed in Poland and other countries. Since 1857, he lived in Lwów (now Lviv). He was director of the Lwów Conservatory, in which many outstanding pianists were educated. Karol Mikuli died in Lwów on 21st May 1897. He is buried on Lychakiv Cemetery.

I was tagged by @fidem-servabo-genusque to name places I want to visit.

First of all I would like to revisit places. There is always the possibility that the food at your favorite restaurant will not be so good anymore, that the waitresses will not be so cute as they used to be, that the old bookstore closed permanently etc. This is something that scares me a little bit.

Chernivtsi, Чернівці́,  Czernowitz,  Cernăuți,  Czerniowce, טשערנאָװיץ (Because in the 20th century this city was part of 4 different countries/empires and had inhabitants of different culture and ethnicity and I would like to discover the traces of this. I will resist the urge to to go deeper into this subject.)

Transnistria (Because I usually like strange things.)

Chiatura in Georgia (Because I want to ride “Stalin’s” cable cars.)

Places in Bulgaria (Because Bulgarians are our brothers. By the way I really like the name of Razgrad, I would go there just to be able to tell people that I have been in R A Z G R A D )

Krakow (Because we have brothers in the North too.)

Just about any place in Italy, because I am sure I would find something that I like.
