Clarity - April 11 2023

Today I reflected on my life with a close friend of mine Z. Where do I want to go from here, how do I want to approach my future. It was quite interesting asking all of these questions because I found the answer pretty quickly. I can put my finger on all the moments of clarity I've experienced in my life. When I say clarity, I mean moments where I can clearly see my way forward, clearly see where I come from, and rather than focusing on the past or the present - I'm fully and truly in the present. I want to LIVE in the feeling I have in my moments of clarity and I will trade mark, copy right and tattoo that on myself at some point. Just for fun, I'd like to highlight some of the moments I've experienced in my life; Middle Cove - I fell in love here and it's cemented firmly into my brain. My lover and I escaped to the top of a cliff with the ocean crashing below us. We kissed and made out in the grass telling each other how in love we were with one another. Fireworks were shot off from the beach and it was such a beautiful moment in my life. We were eventually shooed off the cliff and down onto the beach again. When we got down I was approached by a group of people who sang happy birthday to me and brought me a cake. It was in fact - not my birthday. In this moment I knew I'd cherish it for the rest of my life, here I am decades later able to recount every second of that night. Costa Rica - On top of a hotel in San Jose, I slowly inched my way out onto the roof after crawling through a dank and dirty room with the new friends I had just made on a 2 week trip. None of us wanted to sleep because we knew it would perhaps be the last time we'd see one another. We sat on the roof of the hotel and chatted for a few hours, eventually retreating to our rooms. I'm not sure if this moment was real or something I dreamt about - but in that moment conscious or not, I felt how grateful I was for the incredible life I had been living. I could go on but for times sake I'll keep this short. Panorama Ridge Summit, Coal Harbour at night, Dieppe Park at Sunset, My apartment with Z reflecting on life. I feel the most myself when I'm in a moment of clarity. The best version of me that I can reach out, touch and be extremely proud of. I think moving forward I will strive to keep myself centred. I always thought that saying had something to do with keeping your head on your shoulders - but I guess it means not projecting yourself too far forward, or too far backward. All the best, J

Growing up in New Mexico I was able to enjoy on a regular basis some of the most amazing sunsets that our beautiful planet has to offer. And though I’ve been fortunate enough to view countless breathtaking sunsets in my daily life and travels in California, the Pacific Northwest, New York, Costa Rica and many other places, I don’t think I’ve ever seen a sunset that has quite captivated me as much as the one that I got to experience on my flight back to NYC from Montréal yesterday evening. As we flew above Adirondack Park in Upstate New York, I was able to gaze out at this nearly indescribable view which I will hope to give some justice to in the following sentences. Above a sheet of dark, thick clouds and below a layer of light, wispy ones, the sun was reflecting off of the countless lakes in the forests and wilderness below, and the horizon was painted an astounding array of yellows, oranges, and reds. The three layers that this sunset created absolutely captivated me and provided an unforgettable panorama. I was able to gaze out upon it while I was writing in my journal my experiences and reflections upon the amazing time I had in Canada over this past week. Dark and imposing, yet simultaneously astoundingly bright, experiencing this sunset put a perfect ending note on one the best weeks that I have ever had.
