Schloss Einstein Folge 1058

Es ist soweit, nach sechs Folgen kriegt Joshua endlich mal mehr Screentime als zwei Minuten oder so, denn er hat 🎉 Geburtstag 🎉.

Joshua hat keinen Bock mit "dem Kindergarten hier" seinen Geburtstag zu feiern. Keine Party, keine Geschenke. Elly: "Wir können ja was zu zweit machen." Joshua: "Lieber gehe ich ohne Wasser durch die Sahara". Er freut sich stattdessen auf ein Online Q&A mit J.J. Dutton, bei der man Fragen zu ihrem neuen Buch stellen kann.

Marlon stellt seinen Mitstreiter:innen den Plan für die neue Schülerzeitung vor - auf einem Flipchart. Hat Joel ihn angesteckt?

Die erste große Story ist die Neueröffnung des Share Spaces. Der soll jetzt ein Community Space werden, mit Nachhilfe, Reperatur-Café und Computerkursen. Weil Marlon und Mikka beide keine Zeit haben, meldet sich Tahmina freiwillig. Ich rieche schon das nächste Chaos.

Elly braucht Massudas Hilfe: Sie will eine Überraschungsparty für Joshua planen. Massuda hat zwar keine Zeit, aber Reena ist zur Stelle. Reena: "Wenn ich was kann, dann Orga."

Elly erzählt etwas Joshua Backstory: Als er in der 1. Klasse war, ist niemand zu seiner Geburtstagsparty gekommen. Seitdem wollte er nie wieder Geburtstag feiern und ist so geworden, wie er ist.

Reena bietet Leon eine Limo an.

Marlon erklärt Tahmi, wie man ein Interview führt. Dabei lässt sie sich aber wieder ablenken und spielt mit einem Gummiband. Außerdem hat sie sich die wichtigen Termine extra auf den Arm geschrieben. Leute, ich hab das Gefühl, das ADHS bleibt nicht nur ein Headcanon. Das ist so obvious.

Leon ist genervt. Io schreibt ihm nur, dass sie gerade nicht kann und dann ertränkt er auch noch fast die Pflanzen im Schulgarten. Leon zu Mikka: "Mach deinen Scheiß doch alleine!" *schmeißt ihm die Schürze ins Gesicht*

Massuda lädt Tahmi zu Joshuas Geburtstagsfeier ein, obwohl sie eigentlich zur selben Zeit das Interview führen müsste. Elly verspricht Tahmi dafür, ihr ein Stück Zitronenkuchen übrigzulassen, wenn sie den Einhornballon aufbläst.

AVA!

Leon sucht Trost bei seiner Schwester Charlotte. Er und Io haben in den Sommerferien alles zusammen gemacht und jetzt geht sie nie ans Handy. Charlotte schlägt vor, dass Leon einfach mit Io reden sollte, damit Io weiß, wie er sich fühlt.

Tahmi hat den Einhornballon erfolgreich aufgeblasen, lässt sich dann aber von einer Konfettikanone ablenken und das Einhorn macht sich selbstständig, sodass sie ihm hinterherrennen muss.

Joshua lässt die Überraschungsparty über sich ergehen, wirkt dabei aber die ganze Zeit wie Grumpy Cat. Außerdem rückt das Q&A immer näher, also verscheucht er schließlich alle von seiner Party.

Reena und Massuda haben derweil herausgefunden, dass Elly die Party nur geplant hat, um ihren Bruder lächerlich zu machen und die ganze "Niemand ist auf seine Geburtstagsparty gekommen" Story gar nicht stimmt. Renna und Massuda wollen sich darum bei Joshua entschuldigen, Elly aber natürlich nicht. Immerhin entschuldigt sich Joshua auch nie bei ihr. Willkommen im "Hilfe, wir wurden in die Probleme anderer Leute mit reingezogen" Club!

Leon hat jetzt eine Sprachnachricht an Io aufgenommen und entschuldigt sich bei Mikka.

Und auch Reena und Massuda sind zu Joshua auf den Dachboden gegangen, um sich zu entschuldigen. Joshua: "Eigentlich zeigt das auch, dass ist noch bescheuerter seid als sie. Keine Sorge. Ich brauche eh keine Leute, deren IQ den Gefrierpunkt tangiert." Joshua gibt mir Joel am Anfang von Staffel 26 Vibes und wir wissen, was dann mit ihm passiert ist. Colin, komm zurück, du wirst gebraucht!

Weil Tahmi das Einhorn von einem Baum retten musste, hat sie natürlich ihren Termin mit Charlotte vergessen, sodass Marlon sich bei Charlotte entschuldigen muss, bevor Tahmi hereingestürmt kommt und sich ebenfalls entschuldigt. Was ist das? Die Neuauflage von "Verzeih mir"?

Nachdem Reena und Massuda sich selbst überzeugen konnten, wie Joshua so drauf ist, sind sie jetzt ganz auf Ellys Seite. Das neue Trio Infernale?

Inspiring Environmental Portraits

This portrait is a of a woman and her dog. It portrays a sophisticated woman and a little posh dog in the corner of what could be a large tall ballroom. In the room there are large thick velvet curtains hanging on the wall and in the back a table clock. The woman is placed in the centre of the portrait and her dog at the side, like her companion. There is light coming in from the window which is shining on her face, emphasising her face, showing that she’s the most important subject in the shot. The photographer is quite a bit away from the woman which makes her look more posh and sophisticated. The environment that surrounds the woman could suggest that she is wealthy, affluent and well off.

Colin Dutton spent the whole day with Princess Niké Arrighi Borghese shooting portraits of her in a range of settings at her home in Italy. As an ex-model and actress she knew how to present herself to the camera and that helped Dutton a lot. Using the window as the main light source, a Lastolite reflector to the left to fill in the shadows, and a flash to throw some light on the wall behind.

This shot taken by Dan Brouillette in a Chinese restaurant in Williamsburg, Brooklyn in January 2017 with his model Bryan Tarnowski. He used this place as a recce as he walked past the restaurant everyday and thought that he should shoot there. He wrote that the lighting was tricky, mixing strobe (outside the building) and neon/fluorescent along with the reflection. Brouillette was seated at the table across from him, camera sitting on the table facing the model. The model’s clothing shows that he’s relaxed and casual, and the meal he’s having is a casual takeaway. The style of his clothing suggests that the model is a casual person.

I really like this image as it’s also candid, it makes the image look less staged and more natural. I like the creativeness of using the neon light and it shows the usual surroundings that would be found in the location.

This portrait is of ‘The Stone Collector’, Luigi Lineri, who lives in Germany. This portrait the photographer used a large soft-box to the right to provide a beautiful light for both the subject and the setting. The subject is seated right in the middle of all of his collection, a very large collection showing his passion for stones. The photographer is at a distance that you can see a nice frame of the stones, you can’t see them all, but you can see a lot of them. The photographer is distanced very well from the subject and the viewer can see the subjects facial features, which are suggesting that he’s explaining or showing who ever else was there during the shoot a few stones from his collection.

I really like this shot as it shows that different people are interested and passionate about different things. I also really like the lighting in this shot, when i first saw it i thought that this shot was taken outside, but after reading about the shot. It has been lit so that the viewer can see all the stones, even the ones in the front, above and even the ones in the back. Some are brighter than the others and that makes the shot interesting because it’s in black and white but the stones look different colours.

This shot was taken by environmental portraiture photographer Jonathan Bielaski of a worker of the Loewith’s Family Farm in Ontario, Canada. This subject is posed behind a metal gate in one of the farm’s barns. The environment surrounding him shows his work or life environment which is also revealed by his clothing. He’s styled like a farmer, with the plaid shirt and the brown-ish coloured overalls.

Every one of Jonathan Bielaski’s photos tell a story of a person’s journey. The focus is greater than the person – it’s the reality of who they are at this time in their life – the background reflecting their personality.

evaluation environmental portraits

The project theme was “Environmental Portraits” i was at first kind of intimidated by the project brief but after starting the planning and scouting phases of the project i became more confident in what this project was about. I quite liked the going into workplaces and scouting where i would be taking photos it was cool learning the layout of the places.

A new technique i enjoyed using was the Light Panels we had access too through the college they were easy to setup and provided a decent amount of light.

If i had to pick a technique to improve on i guess i’d go with learning how to create a more interesting zine as my final one is a bit bland.

I had a look at 3 photographers in terms of research - Colin Dutton, Glenn Guy and Arnold Newman, the influence they had on my photos mostly comes down to the sort of cluttered nature of their environmental portraits since i’d be shooting in a car parts mechanic shop there are boxes of stuff lying around everywhere.

I quite like the colour grading part of the project i did with my images and learning about colour grading was very fun too, the colour grades i’ve posted are on my blog and i love how they look.

My biggest issue with my project mostly comes down to the lighting, due to the dark conditions of the workplace i could never get the lighting exactly right as i wanted it even with the LED light panel but its not a massive issue as i at least have my 4 final images, next time if i was to repeat this project or do a project in a similar location i would probably bring my lamp and softbox for extra light.

Environmental Portrait - Evaluation

The theme of the project was to produce a series on images telling a story about a person whilst highlighting their environment and important details. I initially thought this brief would be quite difficult however the more research and planning I did the easier I found the brief.

I found the post production part the most interesting as I got to experiment with colour grading and how different colours affect an image – specifically in terms of mood and atmosphere. I also learned about the flow of images and what things work well and not so well when making zines and other types of things to display photographs.

A new technique I have experienced throughout this project was using an LED panel. Using an LED panel to bring more light onto the sitter when photographing them in their environment was quite important for me throughout this project and it made me think more about my white balance settings and I even became more comfortable with manually setting my white balance. I would like to continue experimenting with additional lighting in the future, including things like off-camera flash.

I researched a wide range of photographers throughout this project including Arnold Newman, Bjorn Wad, Colin Dutton and August Sanders. Arnold Newman used a lot of wide angles in his which is something I wanted to try out – particularly when taking portrait shots to show more of my sitters’ environment. Bjorn Wad took a lot of candid shots that showed the sitter busying themselves. Although I ended up not using candid shot as a final, I did take some of these kinds of shots when experimenting. A lot of Colin Dutton’s shots are either very simplistic or chaotic so I tried to incorporate this when taking detail shots. August Sander’s takes a lot of images of people in their own environment but he has posed them – this is what I did to achieve my final “hero shot”.

The technique I enjoyed the most was colour grading the images in post-production. This is because it helped link my images together and create the story I wanted to represent. It also helped me narrow images down into ones that worked well with others and ones that were better off as stand alone images.

The first problem I encountered was trying to find someone to photograph. A lot of people I asked said no due to covid restrictions or because of COP26 that was happened around the same time as the shooting part of this project. I had also asked a few other people that work in retail but due to privacy reasons I wasn’t allowed to shoot there so I had to settle on asking my sister who works from home to model for me.

Another problem I encountered was low lighting conditions even when using an LED panel and I had to use a fairly high ISO and slow shutter speeds to have a well lit image. However, I managed to use a second light (a desk lamp) to add more light into the image so I could slightly decrease my ISO.

If I could redo this project I would probably get an off-camera flash to make the exposure of my images a bit better. I would also like to go into someone’s workplace and photograph them there now that COP26 is finished.
