Owner Sold A XUV500 For A Mahindra Scorpio-N

One evening out of the blue, I with my family simply stopped at the Mahindra Showroom to check, how the new Scorpio-N, announced just a few days back looked. At that time we were not planning to purchase a new vehicle since our old XUV500 was running fine. However, just a few minutes later my young daughter as well as me was so smitten by the Scorpio-N that it was decided that we will try to go for the introductory booking and if it goes through, we will purchase it immediately otherwise will wait for 2 years.

Tried booking on day one, but got stuck on the payment page and my hopes were dashed. I considered rather trading in my XUV500 for a used Mahindra Scorpio. However, got a call from Mahindra Customer Care that we have got lucky and had to pay a fee if the booking was to be retained. Another surprise was waiting; we got the date of delivery on 26th September 2022!! But, due to a shortage of trailers, the vehicle could not reach the dealer at Vadodara on time for first-day delivery and so it was decided that we will take delivery on Dussehra.

The vehicle was flawless and all electronics which could be checked were found working fine. My brother informed me that the vehicle has not run a single KM and when he asked the Service Advisor, he was informed that the vehicle has landed directly from the factory to the Stockyard and hence the meter reading is ‘Zero’. I got worried about whether it is normal and sent a query to Team-BHP too in this regard.

Delivery

Took delivery on Dussehra, and the overall experience was fabulous and they made us feel special. But, in the midst of all the excitement they forgot to fill DEF, thankfully, my brother remembered at the last moment and arrangements were made to fill DEF causing a little delay in delivery. However, this caused the message “E22 DEF Dosing Malfunction” to appear on the display. Since it was Dussehra and Service Centre was closed, the General Manager who was personally looking after the delivery told us not to worry and that the error would be resolved the next day at the Service Centre.

The vehicle was at the Service Centre for a day and a half. I was informed that Mahindra has sent their engineers to dealerships to support the service staff and he was thoroughly checking the vehicle for any other issues hence it took so much time. Further, he has flagged AC Compressor needs to be replaced since the amount of AC water draining is more. I am not a very knowledgeable automobile person, but I felt that it was unnecessary since the AC was working fine. Maybe Mahindra Engineers are being over-cautious!

My vehicle was delivered and I was told that since the compressor is not available readily, it will be changed after a few days. The same evening, the Service Manager along with Mahindra Engineer visited my home and updated the software. After the update, I feel the Bass of the Speaker System has improved, also Alexa began to work. Further, I informed the Service Manager that I am going back to Dehradun and will not be able to send the vehicle for a compressor change; he assured me that everything will be arranged in Dehradun. He asked me not to worry that he will co-ordinate everything.

1250 Kms Journey from Vadodara to Dehradun and Comparison with XUV500

Mahindra has made an amazing vehicle, although it is not perfect but nothing in this world can be called perfect! Scorpio-N is miles ahead in ride comfort and at par with XUV500 in handling! A great sounding music system for me at least and has got all the required features which are needed in day-to-day usage. The AC worked fine during the whole trip and it’s a chiller, I am still wondering why Mahindra wants to change it! Although this 2 Ton SUV can achieve great speeds it should be driven like an SUV only, keeping physics in mind. One more thing, my little daughter has the problem of motion sickness and we always have to give her syrup to prevent it, but she didn’t need it during this journey, though she needed the syrup even for small travels in the XUV500.

However, despite the above points, I would still say the XUV500 or old Scorpio is a much more practical car for highway trips in comparison since the practicality and amount of space XUV500 offers is such that we had to struggle to find places to put our stuff in Scorpio-N, especially the little glove box makes it very difficult to put your little things.

Conclusion

My Scorpio-N is due for the first service since the compressor is awaited. Though, I feel the Luxury Pack and Automatic could be cheaper by at least 1 Lakh, however, as far as the vehicle is concerned, in approx. 1700 Km of running I am generally happy with the performance and comfort and also with the care being taken by Mahindra to resolve issues if any. "India To Play Big Role In Launch Of OneWeb's Services": Sunil Bharti Mittal

Mr Mittal said that he is in discussion with space authorities to identify companies in India for manufacturing user terminals at a larger scale.

New Delhi: India will play a big role in the launch of OneWeb's satellite broadband services globally, according to Sunil Bharti Mittal, the executive chairman of the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications firm, which on Sunday launched 36 Internet satellites into space through India's most powerful ISRO rocket.

"India has a big role to play in the launch of OneWeb's services globally. Tens of thousands of user terminals would be required with the launch of our services, and India will become a real place to manufacture these terminals, especially with the given Chinese terminals that are unlikely to be accepted in most parts of the world," Mr Mittal said while speaking to reporters today.

The telecom tycoon, and the Executive Chairman of OneWeb, was speaking after a Launch Vehicle Mark-3 (LVM3) rocket lifted off from India's Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota carrying 36 OneWeb broadband satellites towards Low Earth Orbit (LEO). Bharti Enterprises serves as a major investor and shareholder in OneWeb.

The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) announced that all 36 spacecraft had been deployed successfully to an orbit about 450 kilometres above Earth. With this launch, the London-headquartered firm completed placing in orbit its first generation LEO constellation, which will enable it to launch its broadband from space services globally.

Meanwhile, Mr Mittal said that he is in discussion with space authorities to identify companies in India for manufacturing user terminals at a larger scale. "I'm in discussion with the space authorities in India to see which manufacturing companies in India can step up to start manufacturing user terminals for OneWeb," the LEO satellite firm's executive chairman said.

Mr Mittal further said, "Two OneWeb ground stations are being established in India – in Tamil Nadu's Madurai and in Gujarat's Vadodara. Both the stations will be ready by June-July."

"It will take about three months for us to place the satellites into their final orbit, and by July, everything will be in place," he added.

He further said, "I'm now testing the experience of in flight connectivity of nearly 138mbps down-link and 25mbps up-link, which is likely over 4G cross plus or the real 5G speed. This up in the sky is available on aeroplanes, and it is going forward."

"Three days back we demonstrated to the defence authorities a very small lightweight terminal, which one can carry in a backpack. It takes about three minutes to set up and gets connected to OneWeb's network," Mr Mittal told reporters.

"We have also tested our terminals on ships, and they are working efficiently," he added.

"OneWeb is currently operating in 15 countries, and many user cases are being established. Canada, Alaska, Greenland, and the UK are among them. Our number of studies and cases going on is over 145, and the commercial revenue is also in several millions of dollars in a month," he claimed.

Mr Mittal said that they are in the final stages of OneWeb's merger with Paris-based Eutelsat, and it will resume the position as the co-chair, and become the single largest shareholder.

"We are waiting for the Indian space policy, which is in progress," he added.

Mr Mittal spoke on OneWeb's satellite mission at length and shared their plans of launching their services soon once the government's space policy is introduced.

"Our tariffs will not be as low as they are in India. But we hope to match it with rates of mobile services rates offered in western countries," Mr Mittal said, on being asked about tariffs of OneWeb's services.

Bharti-backed OneWeb, the Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite communications firm, on Sunday, confirmed the successful deployment and contact of 36 satellites launched by NewSpace India Limited (NSIL), the ISRO's commercial arm, from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre (SDSC-SHAR) in Andhra Pradesh's Sriharikota.

Lift-off took place on Sunday at 9 am. OneWeb's satellites separated successfully from the rocket and were dispensed in nine phases over a period of 1 hour and 14 minutes, with the signal acquisition on all 36 satellites confirmed.

With this, the total fleet of the in-orbit first-generation constellation of the London-based company has gone up to 618. These satellites are crucial for the company to be able to deliver broadband Internet coverage from space to any place on Earth.

This was OneWeb's 18th launch, and third this year, bringing the total of OneWeb's constellation to 618 satellites. The satellite constellation will enable a global connectivity solution by the end of this year, as stated by officials of OneWeb.
