Something something the incident report that Norris (aka Alex's voice aka maybe my beloved Antichrist's plus one) starts with the person having written "I just couldn't face the thought of the rest of my life never hearing him again" and how Martin's tma s5 arc culminated with him having to kill the person he loved, something he couldn't fathom doing even in his worst nightmares

Something something the incident report that Chester (aka Jonny's voice aka maybe my beloved Archivist) read was about someone whose curiosity ends up killing them (with The Magnus Institute and eyes involved) and the parallels that has with Jon's entire story from tma

Something something Chester read the report with emotion, sounded excited, scared, disgusted when the author's must've been feeling those things, while Norris was dead-pan and robotic and how the Archivist powers drew out stories in the most dramatic and vivid way possible

alright fuck this I’m making a TIMELINE. and a FACT SHEET. it will not be in order. Nor will it actually track dates really. Mostly it’s going to contain the seeds of my theories. I’m red stringing this Shit via tumblr post on mobile.

TIMELINE:

Magnus Institute fire: 1999

Windows NT 4.0 (the Windows NT that was the commercial predecessor to Windows 95) was released to retail in 1996 (with the final version released in 2001) so Freddy has been creeping around the web since around the time the Institute burned down

Jon, Martin, and probable Jonah Norris, Chester, and Augustus started actively reading roughly 1/30 statements entries out loud ~a year ago, according to Alice

Statements Entries so far are dated to May 2022, and it’s implied that Freddy collects them more or less as they appear, so as far as rough estimates for when tmp is set, it’s nowish, or just a bit earlier than now (similar to how tma was)

My kingdom for an ARG player who can hook me up with the founding date of the OIAR and the dates on those Magnus Institute records, just cuz I’m curious

SHIT WE KNOW:

Jonah Magnus exist(s/ed) in SOME form in this world, and built an institution designed to research the paranormal. That institution burned down and cleared of all records. Unclear exactly when the clearing happened.

The voices in the computer are the same as Martin Blackwood’s and Jonathan Sims’s

The OIAR has a department (this one) dedicated entirely to sorting weird shit scraped from online with an obsessive specificity

Everyone who works in this department wasn’t forced to be here and isn’t forced to stay, but all of them do have something that guided them to this position and is keeping them here

There is supernatural shit happening here in this world right now

Annabelle Cane said that the rift under Hilltop Road was a rift in reality - time, space, dimensions

She also said that the Fears would be following the voices that were woven into the web made of the tapes

In the TMA-verse, the Fears had a penchant for spreading themselves around via books (and then someone stupid idiot motherfucking dusty ass book collecting rat old bastard avatar of the whore biggest clown in the circus cowboy— starting slapping a label on em

SHIT THAT IS STILL A ???:

Did the fears exist in this world for an extended period of time, or have they only recently appeared? All the dates we have for statements entries are recent, but there was at the very least some FUCKED UP SHIT happening before the jmart+Jimmy Magma squad popped up

Did Robert Smirk build batshit crazy buildings and also a panopticon under London?

Was Magnus fear-aligned? Was the Institute? Or was it just a place for fucked up research?

Are there alternate-reality versions of any beloved TMA recurring cast members running about?

Was the og TMA world the place where the Fears started? Or had they already spread?

How far have they made it at this point? Is this the first new world post-archives-crew? Or are we several down the chain?

COLLECTION OF FACTS INTO BATSHIT THEORIES:

The Fears have been Updated for the Twentieth (not twenty-first, rip to Colin) Century and now they have infused themselves into computer systems via Jon’s tapes letting them encode themselves in a new and fun way (I am not 100% sure how tapes work besides magnets somehow, but I DO know that early computers used them for data tracking, which makes enough dream-logic sense for me) and are thus able to hack themselves into forum posts and also spy on the whole world via one (1) government computer system

Panopticon screenshot happened in March 2021. First two statements are May 2022. Alice said the voices started showing up about a year ago. So even if the Fears were already here, JMart are here now once more to lend their voices to the verbal record of Fear

Speaking of the Fears already being here. If the Rift was also for Time, I’m sure the Web could have figured out a way to drag the Squad back along the timeline while somehow leaving jmart behind

OIAR is EITHER. The Fears (Web specifically) preparing a perfect funnel-spider web trap for JMart when they did show up (oh voices? tapes? telling fear stories? here you go motherfuckers) or someone’s Leitner/Smirk/Magnus-ass attempt to wrangle all the trauma under one roof. Either way I’m p sure it is Web-ish-aligned, if the Fears even exist in this world in the way we’re used to seeing them

If we’ve got two grown up paranormal guinea pigs, AND a bouchard running around, and all of them are here because of Some Sort Of Reason, and are Still Here Even Though They Could Leave, I assume everyone else is too. I wonder if they all have some tie to this world’s Institute, or if they’ve all had encounters, or were selected based on their compatibility with the OIAR’s aims

Speaking of which

WHAT IS THE OIAR? Cuz this part of it is clearly kinda similar to the Archives in terms of collecting and sorting statements. Is there more of it? What do those people do? Do they use these sorted entries somehow? Also why tf do they have do work overnight????

or: my theory on what the fuck Chester&Norris have going on

so first of all, the voices are trying to communicate with the OIAR through reading the incidents, that's something that basically everyone has noticed, now here's the thing: what are they trying to say?

we only got one Augustus case ( at the moment I'm writing this) so I'm gonna leave him out of this.

anyways, now to the good part, first off let's start with our favorite whiny little toad:

Norris

Norris speaks in episodes 1, 3, 8 and 12

my theory is that Norris is trying to warn them of the consequences their actions (and choices because this is the "at the end of the day, you just need to make a choice" podcast) could have.

in episode 1, this one's a bit obvious, but it shows the consequences ( only " some parts" of their loved one coming back) of them trying to get the person they loved back.

in episode 3, it shows the consequences ( the guy turning into a fucking tree) of the ' statement giver' ( can't think of a better name sorry) killing his ex.

in episode 8, this one I'm not 100% sure tbh, like yeah the consequence is the guy getting a part of their body eaten, but the cause I'm not so sure. maybe the fact they accepted to go in the building ( even if they didn't understand why they did it. something something even if the choices are shitty you still made a choice), or maybe something relating to the ex-wife they mentioned earlier in the incident? that'd be a bit of a far reach, but I'm not discarding anything. It could also be just the fact that they applied and got hired for the job.

in episode 12, the consequences ( whatever the fuck that was. I'm still not over that) of Gwen giving Mr Bonzo that envelope. do i even need to say anything else?

now, to our beloved Archivist Spooky Computer Voice!

Chester

Chester speaks in episodes 1, 5, 7, 9 and 11

my theory is that Chester is trying to warn them to not fucking mess with that type of stuff, and if you're going to, fucking be ready

in episode 1, this one's a bit obvious, RedCanary choosing to explore the magnus Institute, and that resulting in... well, we still don't know yet it but it sure as hell didn't go well. that was a very clear " do not go to the fucking magnus institute manchester" and what did they do? go to the fucking magnus institute manchester

in episode 5 a warning about being desensitized to horror, the characters ( especially Alice) have mentioned dozens of times how they just don't get scared that much anymore, that episode was showing that that isn't always a good thing. also the more obvious don't trust spooky shit but eh

episode 7 it's a bit tricky, I'd say it's a warning to either a) hiring new people (aka Celia? maybe Chester doesn't trust her? idk) or b) trusting people, just like, in general?

episode 9, a warning about making choices, and how ppl are gonna make shitty choices bc they're in shitty situations— but hey, at the end of the day, you still made a choice. or simply about Spooky Artefacts™

episode 11 this one seemed to be very much targeted at Alice, and it seems to be warning her about the paranoia that a paranormal experience can give you. And considering Alice's earlier comment about being followed, I'd say the tattoo being the boat bring hunted by something is definitely something to consider.

but well, this is just a theory, a magnus protocol theory.

seriously tho, i love this initial point of every series cuz i can just make up a lot of connections that in the future prob won't make sense but like, we don't have shit so might as well make up our own lmao.

that being said, maybe i got a few things right! only time will tell. my goal is to say as much random theories as i can until i get atleast one (1) thing right.

Alice knows more than she’s letting on I think. I know everyone adores her and rightly so but I also don’t trust her.

I think if Freddie tried to update then it’d lose Chester and Norris and that’s why it can’t update. So Freddie was created around the same time as this world’s Magnus Institute burned down?

Practically screamed when Norris said in Martin’s voice - I just couldn’t face the thought of the rest of my life never hearing him again.

Norris sounds like Martin not just in the voice but the emotion and empathy and understanding in his voice. I swear that’s Martin.

Who is The Consultant and The Company in the first story?

Lena is picking on Gwen and I don’t think we’ve been told Gwen’s last name yet (I know it but first listen we didn’t know it). But now we know she’s a Bouchard, her wanting Lena’s job at OIAR is ominous.

Ah, Colin my beloved. Too early to ship him with Sam? Probably. I haven’t defined my ships yet.

Gwen is very curious about Sam.

I may have screamed when Jon’s voice said ‘Magnus Institute ruins’

Spelunking and urban exploring play such a huge role in both Magnus stories. I think what RedCanary is feeling is echoes of the other Magnus Institute - when they feel watched or like someone is behind them.

Symbols? Stains? RedCanary went back there, didn’t they? They’ve gone back to the Magnus Institute and never came out again.

Sam’s shaken by the Magnus Institute reference - blast from the past? But he also has a past with Alice. Do they both have a link to the Institute?

Ooh, I’d missed that before - Alice is Sam’s ex…

So Sam’s life had fallen apart and this job is supposed to be him rebuilding? Echoes of - well, almost everyone in the Institute.

Who is Colin talking to at the end? The computer? Something in the computer?

I tried to have a look at the transcripts but the site has crashed because too many people are accessing it.

And now - episode 2, written by Alexander J Newall

What does DPHW stand for? Sam is very eager to decode the system. And wants to stay. He is investigating?

‘We’ll unpack that ominous silence later’ great line.

Interesting that this statement isn’t read, but we hear the actual voices of the artist and therapist

Oh that poor woman. I feel that. I hate the way I look too, and I understand that need to remake oneself

Ink5ouls serpent design that feels real and the way they behave - is this the Distortion?

Alice just ignores it all? She doesn’t care. But that never works out well.

Outsourcing? Redundancies? Seems like normal office conversations but in Magnus world office language is usually a metaphor for something horrific.

I like how clunky the computers sound. I remember computers like that.

Why was Alice’s brother introduced? Brothers don’t do well either.

Dredgermen dig things up long buried in the depths. And Alice’s brother’s band is called that.

A really good beginning. Loads of intrigue and mystery and some really good characters. Cannot wait for more.

Hi, Hello, don't mind me, I just want to get my thoughts an theories for the Magnus Protocol out there. I haven't engaged much in discourse yet so perhaps some parts will be repetitive but there will be spoilers for tma.

I don't think we can apply Smirke's 14/15 to the world of protocol since it just doesn't make sense for Jonny and Alex to use the same system again but I have a feeling there is going to be a way to classify them and I have quite a feeling that it has to do with the alchemical symbols.

I only briefly skimmed the Wikipedia page for some of them but one thing I thought about was that the Symbol for Salt and Mercury are on the crest of the OIAR (and some in the background) and just like with the last cover, I am not going to dismiss any of this for stylistic choices.

I saw a post a few days ago talking about how salt stands for the human body and by extension flesh related horrors/body horror/etc etc and from what I've gathered, mercury stands for Spirit or mind or whatever and each of the main elements in alchemy corresponds with planets. (Do I smell a potential system for fear classification there, or do I need to do some further reading into the symbolism? 👀 Maybe both.)

So like Mercury is the Roman god of a lot of things but a lot of the time he is referenced for traveling and communication which leads me to associate him with technology and the internet as well since, interconnectivity, information travels fast bla bla bla.

I don't have any clue if the speed up arrow thingys in the crest mean anything alchemically but if it means something about combining technology and the human body/mind and we already have Norris and Chester who once were human and are now uploaded to the miracle box that is Windows NT. As much as I like the idea of JMJ error referring to Jon Martin and Jonah, I am not sure about the Jonah part because it could also very well be the case that some guy Alice mentioned from the people that "have gone weird" before, just somehow ended up part of the computer and it might happen to our beloved office staff too. (Perhaps not exactly since Alice would probably recognize their voices but maybe it's like the not them getting to you. I just noticed a hole in my theory and am trying to keep it afloat lol)

So I have a wild theory. Well, more of a hypothesis. What if old Archist!Angus successed in the TMP universe?

So, major spoilers of course, in MAG - "Curiosity" (sorry, don't remember episode numbers and this is a stream of consciousness thing) it's said that the Angus was very much a failure of an archivist. He was trying to rework, rename, and reclassify The Fears. I for some reason am under the impression that he was essentially trying to be The Next Robert Smirk. (Heh! Stranger ref to "a name and face", a title in this case)

In his attempt, he lost everything. And seeing as to how his face was ripped off, after:

-Loosing all but his his most useless assistant. (Fiona Law is my favorite 1 mention character, and that knowing that this creature only care about the torment. Even The Flesh will not eat you if you aren't aware of your own consumption.)

-Seeing that he ran out of resources implies his reputation could have been so bad that there was no for him to ask for help.

I like to believe Angus didn't give up. That he chased that knowledge and in doing so got his face ripped off.

And Name

This is a creature of The Stranger, by TMA's standards of course.

But what if he succeeded?

What if he found out some fundamental truth about them. What if he found a way to score them. Keep track of them.

Cuz I also have to wonder, how did the monsters and avatars react. Remember that Fairchild said in "Big Picture" that he believed the monster had it worse. They are limbs given manifest. Nothing but sentient seasoning to the fear they consume.

This brings me to some suspicions about Chester, Norris, and Agustus.

Especially because of the first statement. That amalgamation wasn't the statement givers beloved. It was pieces of them, but is pieces enough to be that original person. Is a fragment enough.

I totally get why EVERYTHING Alice says sounds suspicious but mannn this just feels like a convo I’d have with my friends. I just want to trust her so bad!! And I shall continue to do so :] though that thing about the sun sounded weird

Hmmmm what if one of the reasons Sam isn’t getting enough sleep is causes he’s researching cases/the institute at home, as to not alert Alice. Hmmmm.

Funny enough I had to sew in my 3D Design class after listening to this. Lmao. Needless to say don’t go away do they.

As of episode 5, here my Magnus Protocol theories!

Whatever it is, it’s in the computers and it drives the computers guys mad (be safe, my beloved Colin).

Alice is involved and I don’t think she’s on the side of goodness and so on. Yes, I know we love her. We all loved Helen too! She’s trying very hard to stop Sam getting to the truth of things.

Gwen, despite being a Bouchard, is one of the good guys this time. She wants to investigate.

Freddie doesn’t mind people leaving - but wants plenty of other people to come in.

Alice’s brother is not just a bloke in a band - he’s something more. Something else. Payday is not money payday. I think perhaps payday is someone else coming in, perhaps new IT guys.

Chester and Norris and Augustus are echoes of what Jon and Martin and possibly Jonah left in the archive.

Perhaps Jon and Martin try to warn the IT guys and thats why they seem to go mad?

Anyway those are my theories so far…
