(I met you, and then I lost you, and nothing really felt the same after that.) - redux, rebirth, resurgence by juurensha on ao3
Hi hi I really had to get this out of my system and just, draw them. I love cheolbong sm and I've been thriving off of the ao3 fics for a while now so i had to quote one of my fav cheolbong works! The art isn't related to the fic, but I might make something based off the fic, who knows 👀 enjoy <33

So, I just finished Mr. Queen and I have some problems with the ending, as i’ve noticed many are as well.
Unfortunately, I can’t bring myself to be satisfied with it. I’m already aware of how consistent media is about censoring queer themes in TV, so this didn’t come as a surprise. It just left me disappointed. Although, admittedly, I was a bit shocked at how far they were willing to go amongst other things throughout the show’s entirety. But I could also tell they were holding back with how they were to approach the gay undertones between Bong-Hwan and Cheoljong.
I feel like for a someone that was such a large aspect of the story, Bong-Hwan was disgustingly disregarded as a character during the finale and it felt painfully empty without him. The story just didn’t seem resolved without him being there. He lost everything; his friends, his love… It should’ve been presented as something much more sad but the narrative widely overlooked that. So-yong filling his place and reclaiming her body so early into the conclusion gave very little homage to his memory as her. Even Cheoljong felt like he lost something but will never find closure in that because So-yong neglected to reveal of Bong-Hwan’s presence.
But, above all else, my biggest peeve about the ending is how adamant people are to defend it despite how poorly they handled Cheoljong’s relationship with Bong-Hwan. Many are eager to deny that they had any feelings for each other. The argument being that “The feelings he feels is So-yong reclaiming her body” and I disagree with that. You know how I know thats bullshit? The fact that the show literally shows us otherwise. Even when Bong-Hwan was gone, he still influenced her personality. She still has his rotten mouth and his mannerisms. So I believe that her feelings for Cheoljong intermingled with his and he was influenced by her too. Therefore, he grew to love the king as well. Even if in the beginning, So-yong’s heart for Cheoljong definitely interfered with Bong-Hwan’s, that doesn’t mean they both didn’t grow from that point. And in the end, we’re shown that they’ll never truly be the same, and being apart of one another proved to change them.
As for Cheoljong, I believe he fell in love with Bong-hwan too (As they say, you fall for the personality more than the looks). Irregardless of whether or not he grew some feelings for So-Yong post learning that she was a member of the Kim family, doesn’t mean he didn’t fall in love with the version of her that was possessed by Bong-Hwan. We see he was already interested in him without So-Yong’s influence there.
With that all said, its disappointing that we never got to see an ending for the two when there was obviously a BL in there.

I woke up from a strange dream that bothered me and decided (as a distraction to make myself feel better) that I'm going to post little snippets of ideas I had for other cheolbong fics if I ever finished No Touch Cafe. Will I ever get to them? I have no idea, but for now, enjoy!
---
Mute!Bong Hwan/CEO!Won Beom
Won Beom saves Bong Hwan from assholes trying to beat him up and they nearly break his hand. As Won Beom is treating his wound:
“It’s already hard enough for you to communicate as it is.” Won Beom says softly as he wraps the bandage around Bong Hwan’s hand. "Hands are the very things we use to hurt or comfort, to create or destroy." he swipes his thumb over Bong Hwan’s hand as though he could take away all the pain with a single touch. "But for you, it's how you communicate." Won Beom looks at Bong Hwan, who's looking back at him with an unreadable expression. "You've already lost one voice. It would be cruel for you to lose another."
Bong Hwan pulled his hands away gently. "I would have found another way," he signed slowly, staring at Won Beom with a determined intensity. Won Beom couldn't help but smile.
“Yes, you would." he agrees.
---
Purely written snippet as a joke of the bath scene, but like... way gayer?? Basically a pwp lmaooo
“Would you like me to fuck you?” Cheoljong asked, his voice low.
“Or would you like to fuck me?” Won Beom asked, tilting his head.
“Which do you choose then?” Cheoljong asked seriously, him and Won Beom looking at Bong Hwan expectantly. Bong Hwan scoffed.
“Fuck both of you,” he said harshly, fully intending it to be an insult. Instead the two of them grew wider grins. Cheoljong immediately slid behind him, his hands grazing across Bong Hwan’s chest as his chest pressed against his back. Won Beom slid into Bong Hwan’s lap, settling comfortably enough as though he always belonged there.
"So be it." Cheolbong purred into Bong Hwan's ear.
---
Bodyguard AU with a mix of modern and Joseon. The one I really want to write one day. But here's a little taste. 👀
"Loyalty? Why the sudden change? I know for a fact that joining my side gets you nothing." Cheoljong said.
"You're right. I don't receive any benefits. I will be risking my life to help you win."
"Then why??"
"If I may be so bold, Your Majesty." Bong Hwan steps closer and refuses to break his gaze from the king. "It's because I love you."
Cheoljong steps back in shock as Bong Hwan towers over him.
"I've always thought it was immense loyalty, and had treated it as such until I realized my thoughts were never as innocent as they should be." He stares at Cheoljong. "What I feel for you is different from anything I have ever felt before, and it makes me feel alive." he steps closer, his hand reaching up but never quite getting close. He pulls away and steps back. "I know what I feel can never be reciprocated, and I will never expect you to. But do not push me from your side. Use me as you will, and I will tear down all your enemies with just one word from you. That I promise you, My King."

Mr. Queen Fic: resurgence (Jang Bong Hwan/Cheoljong)
Summary:
He isn't an expert in emotional fucking baggage because mostly he just gave them away, kept none for himself. Obviously. He's too cool for that shit. But Bong Hwan's pretty fucking sure now that what he's feeling is missing Cheoljong. In a way that made him feel like his entire chest was raging all the time. - or a fix-it fic of sorts to Mr. Queen's ending.
Notes: So I rewatched this KDrama!!! When I first saw Mr. Queen, I was obsessed with Prince Yeongpyeong and Hwa-Jin (even wrote a story for them). Now though, I get why people didn't like the canon ending because AAAAAGH.
So I wrote my own fix-it fic. Not sure if it makes sense, but it made me happy writing it hihihi.
(also this is technically my first M/M fic so THERE'S THAT TOO)

I had to change the ending of Mr Queen for myself because there is no way in hell Bong-Hwan would return to his life as if nothing happened when he almost completely turned into So-Yong and loved Cheoljong as much as he/she/they did. And there is no way Cheoljong would be happy with the original So-Yong. So in my version the whole set up of Bong-Hwan going backin time was because of an accident, there was no storyline in the present, and So-Yong's soul dies the last time her body dived to the lake. Bong-Hwan's personality and memories merged with So-Yong's memories in her body and they lived happily ever after with Cheoljong. No long-term trauma for anybody!

musings_001:
Just finished watching Mr. Queen starring Shin Hye Sun & Kim Jung Hyun :)
Here's my quick review about it:
7/10.
The reason why I pushed myself watching it because of the plot. Well, it's not a typical plot for me (though I've watched Secret Garden similar to this one). I was curious how will the story flow thinking that a soul of some random guy went inside a queen of a historical era. The first question I've asked: How did they fall in love with each other? Well, based on how I perceived the episodes of MQ, the fact that Bong Hwan and So Yong did not swap with their bodies was out of the picture. I think the main reason why the two–Cheol Jong and Bong Hwan (inside So Yong's body) have numerous intimate scenes because obviously, So Yong is there. It's crazy how I've come into conclusion that BH & SY are connected and mixed their personality with each other that's why there are scenes that BH tries to resist all the affection SY felt for CJ, while SY is (the girl's head over heels on him so she's always on the go) make sense.
So, the second one I've convinced to formulate is: Did Cheol Jong fell in love with So Yong or fell in love with Bong Hwan considering he's inside SY's body? A confusing moment for me everyone. Because I can't ignore all the moments CJ with him, or just maybe CJ thinking about him (e.g. he made "Queen's Dictionary” to understand the queen better; on the last episode, the King noticed something changed about the queen, he felt he lost something after the assassination during enthronement, so on).
So yeah, aside from unsatisfied ending for our Chef Bong Hwan's story, what should I add? Mr. Queen is a fun and warmhearted drama. The casting was great and I love the team hong yeon, lady choi, & queen <33 I hope they did not just leave the importance of BH on the whole plot and his back story just to be clear.

Mr Queen
Subtitle: Comedic genius becomes the Main Character
Tumblr media
A/n: I will be making a post called my unattainabe crushes and adding characters i love to it after each review!
This movie is suitable for all ages but i recommend for those above 13! As always my reviews will be including spoilers so be warned. The review starts below the cut!
Word count: 0.8k
*******
I assume that you have read the spoiler warning above so I'm just going to get right into it and say that I'm a sucker for drama but even I almost became tired of it. Firstly, the K-drama had me laughing time after time. From the mistranslations of the Queen's language by the Queen to the very dramatic moments and the identity crisis. All of it tied in to create a light-hearted yet sometimes serious K-drama series.
The plot is about a chef who through an accident finds himself in the body of the soon-to-be queen 200 years before the modern world. He gets into a lot of family drama and makes some enemies all while trying to live a quiet life in the palace. He soon realizes that that won't be possible and that the place is all about sides and sabotage, despite his attempts he still finds the people of the palace against him. The story covers him navigating the palace as well as the troubles of the King and the blooming love between the King and the Queen(Him).
This K-drama gave me new crushes, enemies and faves! But I'll talk about only a few of them here.
Firstly, The main character in the Queen's body. Now I know sometimes it's quite boring and cliche to like the main character, but admittedly to me, this guy carried the whole show. From the monologues to the identity crisis to the relationships with other characters such as the Queen's court maid and lady-in-waiting, the King's father-in-law and the chef. The unique interactions and his mannerisms in the Queen's body. He put a smile on my face time after time. He is my number 1 fave in this show and no one can change my mind.
Secondly, Palace Uibin. I did not like her in the palace, not even a little. I get that the two had a past but i just got irritated by her attitude, especially when she gave the ledger to the Queen Dowager when she knew it would help the King that she loved, because of jealousy. She also tried to shoot the queen with an arrow which could have fatally killed her! All for what? When the Queen had told her countless times that she wasn't involved. In fact, I can go as far as to say the Queen was living quietly and minding her business while everyone else tried to pin things on her. Uibin managed to be fooled by a woman who lets superstitions rule her life all for her hatred of the innocent.
Thirdly, The King, I love the king! From his backstory to just him in general and his love for the Queen just touched my heart and made me truly feel my singleness to a new degree! The King is the only one that I will defend to this day. He truly cared for his people and so I treasure him in my heart. he has been added to my list of unattainable crushes.
Kim Byung-In is someone I had a love-hate relationship with, mostly because he kept attacking my beloved King but also because the man was just doing too much. Like just rest! My cousins don't even ask me how i am, why are you in the Queen's business like this? If you had suspicions of the King, you could have asked the Queen! Because your family did more damage to the Queen than the King ever did or would! I was just looking at the guy and he was embarrassing me. But towards the end of the series, I was a little sad when he was dying but overall I was happy that he did.
The entire Jo and Ansong Kim family just left me with a bitter taste in my mouth and I hate them all. Safe to say I don't like royalty much at least in K-drama because when you sleep and wake up, there is a new problem. Why is my uncle trying to kill me and still expects me to reconcile later? Like Godforbid, it can't be me.
When the Ministers and the Grand Queen Dowager tried to have the little girl killed for trying to save the queen, this made me hate every person in that council. They irritated me to no end and enraged me greatly for the entirety of the episode and till the end of the season.
I didn't really like the ending of Mr Queen when the mc went back to, modern times but I don't mind too much.
I have decided to add the following members to my list of unattainable crushes:
Prince Youngpyeong: He is totally an introvert but he was cute and I just loved him.
Kim Hwan: He was just an idiot and that made me love him. He is a very simple-minded person which is a breath of fresh air for me.
Special Director Hong: His personality just made me love him. The way he was always going undercover and comforting Kim Hwan. I just love him!
So that concludes my review. Overall I give the K-drama a 7.5/10! I absolutely love it but the drama was getting a bit too much for me. Plus they didn't kill the Queen Dowager and Grand Queen Dowager so I was left A little underwhelmed.
Till next time loves!

The Most Romantic Lines in Mr. Queen:
King Cheoljong to Bong-hwan: “Why did it anger you so much?” “So? Did you figure it out?” “No, I cannot seem to figure it out. So, I decided to accept it, although I cannot understand it. That a blessing to others, may not be a blessing to you.”
King Cheoljong to Bong-hwan: “I’ll comfort you tomorrow.” “Your existence is comforting enough.”
Bong-hwan to Byeong-in, about Cheoljong: “You asked me why it has to be the King. Let me answer that question now. If someone has to be King, I think he’s the best one. He’s the most king-like out of everyone. So don’t stop me from going and casting a precious vote to the King.”
King Cheoljong to Bong-hwan: “When you weren’t in the Palace, I was surrounded by darkness, like there was a blackout. Oh, ‘Blackout’ means...” “No need to explain. I understand how you feel. I felt the same way.”
Bong-hwan to King Cheoljong: “If you really are from the future, then you must know the ending of this fight too. What happens?” “You’re going to lose. But I’m going to bet everything I’ve got on you.”
Bong-hwan to King Cheoljong: “So, you put all the eggs in my basket.” [Laughs] “Yes. All in. I went all in on you.”

In Any Life, In Any Body
Did something I haven't done in a long time, and wrote. Did something I've never done, and wrote post-canon fix it fic. But if ever a show called for it, it's Mr. Queen.
For 19 1/2 episodes, we got a beautiful, complex, and inherently queer story. Then we were meant to accept a tragedy as a happy ending. I needed to believe that two people who managed to love each other across time and regardless of sex or gender could have another chance.
---------
The 5 Letters represent one of the great mysteries of King Cheoljo’s legacy. The question is this: Who was Jang Bong-hwan?
The name appears only in two of the Letters and the famous graffito at Gungnamji Lake. There is no other record of anyone by that name who might have had contact with the King. These letters reveal a surprisingly metaphorical and poetic side of the King, but to the author’s mind, the shortest and simplest is the most moving and strangely tragic of these.
Bong-hwan touched the page. He already knew it by heart. It appeared a dozen times in the books scattered around him. But he could not read the words aloud.
“Bong-hwan. I never called you by your name. I did not truly see you until you were gone. Bong-hwan. I pray every night to see you again in another life, in your world. Bong-hwan. Now that you are gone, I know what it was that I loved. I would love you in any form. Bong-hwan. May I know you again, in any life. In any body. Bong-hwan.”

I can't find on me to hate Byeong-In because if you think about his point of view that So-yong tried to killed herself because of how unhappy Cheoljong and the palace life made her and how their family made her so miserable at the point to drive her to depression. He had every single reason to hate all of them, and I always felt that it was very ambiguous the way they wrote So-yong feelings towards him. She kisses him back for some seconds till she snaps. She tells him that in her dreams, sometimes her husband looks like him. She trusts him the most and he was the only one who notice that So-bong wasn't So-yong and STILL protected her anyway. His love towards her mixed with how used and mistreated he was by their family although he was a political genius makes all his actions very understanding. They don't know you like I know, youngest minister of War.

Before, when all this madness had started he was dreaming of returning to his apartment once again and being able to live his life again as the amazing and magnificent man he was, he was looking forward to returning to his original body and feeling himself again, then….
Why?
Why did he…?
Why did he…?
"Why don't I feel happy?" After all the hustle and bustle of the day, of running around trying to get away from those guys and finding out that Cheoljong had succeeded in his task, finally, in the solitude of his living room he could accept to himself that the water running down his cheeks were not tears of relief that he was back.
It was as if saying it out loud had caused a dam to break, the tears fell one and another like a river and sobs escaped his now parched lips; he feels an ache in his soul and can only hope that in time it will end.
It has to end, this is what he wanted, now he's back to his happy ending.
Didn't he?
As he kneels in his empty living room as usual and trembles he tries to console himself and repeat over and over again that it was all over for the better, finally no one would treat him as something he is not, no one would yell at him for being rude, for not having manners or doing whatever he wanted, he wouldn't have to see them all again.
Hong Yeon his good friend would no longer be by his side when he needed her.
Lady Choi would no longer scold him or take care of him as if he was her own son.
Cheoljong…
Why did he have to leave them?
Why did he feel like he was about to die?
