Chengxian is about an all-consuming obsession that transcends death, it’s about devotion, it’s about a love that eats, a love that hurts, a love that the world around them tries to destroy. It’s about codependence. About cannibalism. About loving someone so deeply you’d fuck yourself up to save them. About tearing your heart out and placing it in your lover’s body and lying to them about it if it means saving their life. It’s about nonconsensual sacrifice. It’s about mutually unrequited feelings, about a relationship so deep and fraught and tangled that you cannot put a name to it, ambiguous and yawning. It’s about that liminal place between belonging and serving, between ownership and brotherhood, when no label can fit two people who are insane about each other. It’s about being so sure you’d never be loved back with the same intensity. It’s about knowing the other person better than anybody else. It’s about miscommunication and lying. It’s about grief and broken promises and a graveyard of bones and too much blood between them. It’s about yearning. It’s about a love that drives the narrative, about choices made thinking only of each other. It’s about Heathcliff digging down to Catherine’s coffin and wanting to hold her corpse, and it’s about Jiang Cheng holding to Chenqing for over a decade. And it’s essentially about the unspeakable surfeit of love between two people which ends up being the very reason of that relationship breaking, because they love each other so much they destroy themselves to save the other, and intend never to disclose it.

Round 2, Match 4: Jiang Cheng vs Yoshikazu Miyano
Match 4 is between Jiang Cheng (shixiong: Wei Wuxian) from Mo Dao Zu Shi vs Yoshikazu Miyano (shixiong: Shuumei Sasaki) from Sasaki to Miyano
Propaganda under the cut (Miyano's propaganda is going first due to how long the Jiang Cheng propaganda got)
Yoshikazu Miyano:
A fudanshi who bonds with his senpai over BL. Sasaski actually fell for and confessed to Miyano first but Miyano is took his confession very seriously and made sure to sort his own feelings out before giving a proper response (which took like a year lol) beause he didn't want to be careless with Sasaki's feelings.
Jiang Cheng:
Clinged to WWX constantly for 7+ years, wanted to have WWX as his right hand man forever after becoming sect leader, cried after WWX left, cried when he discovered what WWX sacrificed for him, was TORN APART when it got explained to him that if they were more outwardly close knit, WWX might not have died
PROPAGANDA!! to start, i'm still very bitter about how fairy lost the sentient animal poll and i want to win this badly. very very badly. current stats are 50.6 in favour of jc but that's too less of a gap for me. jc should be winning this by a landslide, y'all hear me? anyways. starting with a class act, like the clown i am->

to start with. jiang cheng is literally the picture of "i knew from the moment i met you that i'd spend a lifetime forgiving you".
the earliest dynamic of jiang cheng and wei wuxian is jiang cheng giving away his dogs (the only gift his father has ever given him, btw) because wei wuxian is scared of the dogs. tis only the start of it.
his father very obviously prefers his shixiong over him, his mother berates him for not being as good as wei wuxian and tells him his inheritance is in danger, and his sister (in my opinion) has more care for him (visibly. maybe jiang yanli doesn't show it because jc is an emotionally complicated purple grape, maybe because jc doesn't need it, or wei wuxian is traumatised but that's my opinion). but still. still. Jiang Cheng loves Wei Wuxian. so much. jealousy is like. the most tame response i can think of. and jiang cheng is proud of wei wuxian, okay? he'd believe his big brother if he'd said anything. want proof? well, here you go-> link

jiang cheng is a cannonically ruined woman archetype, justified via the countless posts you'll get in the top posts of jiang cheng tag. he keeps chenqing, wwx's flute in perfect condition even when he hates wei wuxian, even when wwx, if only indirectly, has a part in jiang yanli's murder and oof okay someone pointed out to him that he's known to have killed wei wuxian and he almost cries. he absolutely believes, with his whole heart, that wei wuxian lives even when the world is sure he doesnt. and it always read to me like, i'd know if he was dead. he's a part of my soul, so i'd know if he was dead. he can't be dead.

the fact that there was a perfectly gossipable and inappropriate closeness between WWX and JYL, peppered with WWX causing the break of her betrothal and WWX beating up her ex-fiance, culminating in WWX killing her husband and JYL shielding him with her body...
and the actual gossip in the Jianghu at the time of WWX's death was that JC had been the naive childhood sweetheart too gone on WWX.

jiang cheng ships by whether they're about wei wuxian or not
our boy wwx's protagonist halo is more like a gravitational field in his effect on jc's emotional development. he probably didn't, like, invent jiang cheng's abandonment issues, but he certainly made them worse! so here are jiang cheng ships grouped by whether or not they're actually about wei wuxian. the ones in the middle could go either way.
definitely about wei wuxian:
chengxian: obvious. wei wuxian is literally there.
zhancheng: obvious. they're both obsessed with wei wuxian.
ningcheng: obvious. they're both wei wuxian's horrible/beloved science experiments/little brothers and neither of them are normal about it. to be fair, wei wuxian is also not normal about it, thus the science experiments.
definitely not about wei wuxian:
mingcheng: I think this is more about theoretical temperamental compatibility and letting jiang cheng date a hot male authority figure who at least kind of approves of him.
sangcheng: I think this is in some ways often about giving jiang cheng a human who is *not* obsessed with wei wuxian. like, give jiang cheng his own bf who can be into him on his own merits.
chengyao: they're coworkers! they're inadvertent coparents! they're both wildly competent and also incredibly bitchy if the situation calls for it! if anything this is about jin ling instead.
chengyi: I don't know what this is about other than getting jiang cheng a boytoy. I don't rightly know that he would want one of those but why not! get down with your bad selves!
could go either way, Schrödinger's wei wuxian:
chengqing: this one I wasn't sure about because actually a lot of writers are pretty careful to make chengqing actually about them but wei wuxian got up in there with great determination and made that threesome happen (wen qing's hands, wei wuxian and jiang cheng's holes... surgical holes... I regret this already). hard to totally extract him from the dynamic after that. the wei wuxian must be contended with. depends on when in the timeline it happens and what canon you're working from, since cql made it canon pre-surgery.
xicheng: this is less likely to explicitly be about wei wuxian and more likely to be structurally about wei wuxian. not only does it make them match (twin prides dating the twin jades) but the brothers-dating-brothers situation ties them tightly to wangxian from multiple directions. in other words, if it's about wei wuxian it's because it sort of re-joins them as family through a different method. if he's not your "real" brother, becoming an in-law is fine?
disclaimer: I acknowledge it is possible to, for example, write a zhancheng fic which is not about wei wuxian, I'm not saying you can't! through the power of AU all things are possible, etc. but you have to actively remove him from the dynamic, because canon embeds him there very deeply, vs. something like chengyao, where they have a totally separate relationship (via jin ling- and their working relationship).
