Mumbai Heroes press conference: Bobby Deol reveals how his intense picture from a Celebrity Cricket League match helped him bag Ranbir Kapoor-starrer Animal
Bobby Deol’s career went on a high with last year’s blockbuster, Animal (2023). Despite limited screen time, the actor rocked the show in the Ranbir Kapoor-starrer and it turned out to be one of the most memorable performances in recent times. Animal’s director Sandeep Vanga Reddy, in an interview, revealed that he signed Bobby after he spotted a picture of him in an intense mood at a match of Celebrity Cricket League (CCL). At the Mumbai Heroes press conference today, Bobby Deol opened up on this aspect.
Tumblr media
Bobby was asked why was he looking so intensely. He replied, “Shayad, meri team haar rahi hogi uss waqt (laughs). Kuch gadbad ho rahi hogi.”
He continued, "I miss CCL. I have always loved cricket since I was a kid. I remember Suniel telling me, ‘Hum log cricket khel rahe hai. Tu aaja’. I asked him, ‘Kaunsa cricket?’. He replied, ‘We play matches with actors of different industries’. I agreed and maine dekha ki kaafi serious tarike se practice kar rahe the sab. Jab main khelne laga, toh mujhe laga ki batting mujhse hoti nahin hai. Pata nahin chalta ball girti kaise hai. I enjoy bowling more.”
Bobby Deol further said, “I still remember when I went to the stadium for the first time, I was like, ‘Yeh kamaal hai yaar’. When we see the Indian cricket team playing, we often claim, ‘Uss player ne shot kyun nahin maara?’. It’s only when you play that you realize how difficult the game is. You have to really practice.”
Tumblr media
Coming back to the Animal story, the dashing actor said, “Luckily, because of that one picture, I got Animal. Sometimes, in life, certain things that you do and love can take you in another direction. That’s what happened with me.”
Besides Bobby Deol, the press conference was attended by Mumbai Heroes owners Sohail Khan, Jordy Patel and Adil Jagmagia along with it’s star player, Saqib Saleem. CCL founder, Vishnu Induri, also graced the event.

Slow | Chloe Logarzo x Reader
Words: 1.9k Summary: despite a rough relationship with your parents, your closeness to your sister brings you Chloe, the only girl for you. Warning: NOT PROOF READ I have no clue if this is any good and I’m so sorry I think it might be one of my worst ones😭, I know the WBBL started in 2015 but who fucking cares, I changed it – no COVID but Olympics still postponed for some unknown reason :D Requested by - @charligrantismygirlfriend - not happy with this one at all i'm genuinely so sorry
Sport wasn’t something I was unfamiliar with. In fact, it was my favourite thing. As a kid, my mum and dad put me through many different clubs for different sports, from tennis to AFL. We always landed back at the same lush green cricket pitch in the western suburbs of Sydney on a Saturday morning, surrounded by other girls of all ages who shared my passion.
On Sundays my younger sister would play her soccer games, so we’d spend the weekend in a hotel in the city, then go to each other’s games, pretending to do our homework as we watch.
Not long into Ellie’s soccer journey, our parents decided the move from Cowra to Sydney was necessary for her to develop. The hours long trips to and from training in the depths of Sydney every afternoon proving to be more difficult as she progressed in school.
I no longer lived with them when they made the move, but I resented Ellie for a while. I’d been playing cricket before she could walk, albeit poorly as a 6-year-old, and had moved up through the stages into the best group in the academy by the age of 14. My parents insisted nothing much would come of it, so there was no reason to make such a drastic move and leave the farm and small-town life behind.
-
I started playing professionally for Sydney in the Twenty20 Cup at 17, the same year I got my first call-up for the women’s national cricket team. We, or they, still didn’t live in Sydney, so I dropped out of high school my senior year, and lived with one of the older girls who was also on the national team. I made my national debut a couple months after in a test match against England. My parents didn’t come, Ellie had some important game on that was simply impossible to miss.
-
At 15, when they finally joined me in the city, Ellie joined her first W-league team, and had her first senior team call-up. I made sure to be there for both debuts, avoiding my parents who sat in the crowd nearby. I cried the moment she first touched the pitch in a Matilda’s jersey, and rushed down from the stands to pick her up and hug her when the match was over.
That’s when I first met her… Chloe. My age, a beautiful brunette in the midfield who celebrated with my sister after their 9-0 win against Vietnam. We introduced ourselves and exchanged numbers but nothing much came of it. I can’t deny the many nights I spent awake dreaming of the girl.
The next time I saw Chloe in person was a Sydney Derby. Naturally I’d come to support my sister, but I couldn’t help but cheer whenever the older girl got a touch on the ball. I met up with her and Ellie again after the game, shouting them both dinner. That’s when Chloe asked me out on our first date.
It was somewhat rushed. Her departure for Newcastle was pending and it limited our options, leaving us to grab some shitty take away and dance around in a field down the road from where I lived. The sun was bright, but her smile was brighter. I stumble on my own feet whenever she looked at me, her beauty beyond compare. The beginning of a sunburn kissing my cheeks only provided me so much of an excuse as to why I was so red.
“I’m going to come to every single one of your games.” She whispers in my ear as we lay on the picnic blanket, beneath the over looming gum tree, me playing with her hair as she rests a hand beneath my loose linen shirt.
“You have your own training. And you can’t drive 2+ hours back and forth once a week. Also we have away games you can’t possibly make...” Despite my desperate want for her to be there every game, I begin to list all the reasons it wasn’t logical.
“I’ll find a way. And if not all, most home games.” She gives me a satisfied smile, one that tells me she knows she’s won whatever little argument we had.
-
Chloe keeps her promise, and I join her in my own. We both attend each other’s home games as often as possible, and very rarely, we managed to catch an away game. It usually happened when we were both playing a game in the same city, but we took whatever we were given.
Things went down hill when she moved to Sweden.
She hadn’t been the one to tell me. Ellie was spending a week with me after returning from the Olympics, which I had managed to attend most of, and asked me how I felt about the move. Chloe and I had been dating for a year, so the shock that she hadn’t told me was bigger than the shock at the news.
“What do you mean? She would tell me if she was moving to Sweden.” The pity in my little sister’s eyes is enough to break me. She pats and rubs my back as I sob into her shoulder. My whole body shakes as I moan and weep, and by the time I stop my eyes burn and there isn’t a dry spot on her shirt.
-
“So this is it? You’re breaking up with me because I’m moving?” Chloe looks at me like I’ve got 2 heads as I stand on her front step.
“No, I’m breaking up with you because I had to find out from my little sister, by accident, that you’re moving. Were you ever going to tell me? Or was I just going to have to find out when The Jets removed your name from the squad list?”
“I’m going to come back for the A-League season anyway! It’s not like I’m never coming back, I’ll barely be gone 8 months. And I was going to tell you!”
“When? Once your plane touched down in Stockholm or wherever you’re going? In 5 months when I called you so you can explain why you didn’t come to my game? When were you going to tell me Chlo?” I’m met with silence.
“That’s what I thought.” I turn and walk away, never expecting to see her again.
I can hear her shouting something at me as I continue to walk down the road, droplets of rain beginning to fall on the pavement in front of me. Nothing really registers until I’m standing in front of my sister’s apartment door, clothes heavy with rain and a face void of any other emotion except heartbreak.
-
I don’t see Chloe for years to come following the tragic end of our relationship. Despite her coming back during the summer to play for Sydney, I had no reason to watch her games, Ellie having moved to Portland to develop her career.
Then Ellie moved to Lyon, and I decided to move with her, putting a pause to my cricketing career. Further away from Chloe and closer to Ellie seemed like the perfect deal.
So I helped Ellie move and meet her new teammates. Every morning I’d make her breakfast and then walk around the city, usually finding myself in a café or museum and writing a book. Something I never planned on doing anything with, but found a solace in.
That’s how I found myself in the same café I go to every Saturday, typing in the same document I have been typing in for 5 months. Desperately pressing the backspace as I sip the now cold coffee, I don’t notice someone sliding into the seat across from me.
“Fancy seeing you here.” I’m surprised I didn’t get whiplash at the speed in which my head snapped up to look at the girl across from me.
She looks different. Not really, just… older. And her hair is bleached, skin just a fraction more tan, eyes still that shimmering blue. Still beautiful
“Chloe- what the fuck are you doing here?” the words nearly get caught in my throat as I try to process what’s going on.
“Well, I’m playing for Bristol now, in case you didn’t know. Only spent 2 seasons in Sweden then went back to Sydney, went on loan to Washington for a season, back to Sydney, now I’m in England. We have a small break so I thought I’d come see Ellie. Planned everything around you, knew you wouldn’t want to see me. I didn’t take into account you might still like coffee as much as you used to.”
“How’d you even know I’m with Ellie?” it’s a dumb question but I ask it none the less.
“You think I stopped tracking your career because we broke up? I have to say, when I read the “renowned cricketer Y/N Carpenter taking a break for an unforeseen amount of time to help her little sister, Matildas star Ellie Carpenter, settle into the big leagues at Olympique Lyonnais.” headlines, I was shocked.” I finally managed to meet her eyes, the crow’s feet that crack at the corners making her ever the more pretty. It’s aggravating.
“Thought it’d help me get away from Sydney.”
“Sydney? Or me?” I almost want to grab her by the shoulders and scream at her how much I miss her, but I stay sat and silent. A satisfied hum escapes her lips and a smile graces her face.
“I miss you.” She says what I’m thinking, and I begin to think how much of a coward I am. It was so easy for her, why am I struggling?
She doesn’t let me reply, getting up and walking out. I get up to follow her but she’s vanished in the crowd, so I sit, letting my coffee grow colder, thinking about her.
~~~~~
“Ellie this is a bad idea.”
“Common. Meeks is bringing Harley and Kirstey. You love Harley. You can babysit!” my little sister is determined, although my fighting is useless as we drag our suitcases through the airport.
“Chloe is going to be there El.”
“Chloe is going to be here.” I nearly bump into her as she stops in front of us.
“And she’ll be your plane buddy.” The cheeky grin I was once so familiar with graces her face and I can feel the corner of my own lips twitching as my heart clenches. Fuck.
“Oh goody.” I try to ignore the sweat that begins to prick through my skin as Ellie stalks away from us to meet Emily Gielnik.
-
“Real talk.” Chloe’s face is serious as soon as we take our seats on the plane.
“I miss you, and I want to try this again. I get you may not want to but you can’t tell me you don’t still feel even the tiniest bit of love for me still.” Her finger waggles back and forth between as to indicate exactly what she’s talking about and I sigh.
“I miss you too…” I meet her eyes and I can see the hope that grows behind them.
“But if we try this out again, we have to take it slow. Like go out on a few dates to start with.”
“I can do that.” She eagerly nods her head in agreement.
“I’d really like that.” I smile back at her, and that seems to end the conversation.
As the engine rumbles and we begin moving along the tarmac, I rest my arm on the armrest. I gently slide my hand into Chloe’s and rest my head on her shoulder, closing my eyes. Maybe slow wasn’t necessary, I love her too much.
Simple Astrological Remedies for Landing Your Dream Job!
A person is born with many skills. But Universe has fixed a particular timing of showing your skills which will be beneficial for you in form of good job, career and gains in that timing.
Dasha is the most important factor which tells that universe is calling you for which purpose. If you will go in that direction with right intention, paitence and hard work then universe will support you fully to that field.
Tumblr media
I will explain it through famous Indian Bollywood celebrity chart, Shahrukh Khan-
Tumblr media
(His Astro Chart- Pic credit- AstroSage App)
1-When he was going through Rahu mahadasha-
His rahu is sitting in 10th house of career and hard work. The lord of 10th house is sitting in 5th house which is Venus(planet of creativity and arts). He worked hard in field of creativity at that time.He debuted his acting career and worked in many television serials.
2-When his Jupiter Mahadasha came-
His Jupiter is sitting in 11th house of gains and all wishes. He won big awards. He bought his dream house Mannat during that dasha.
Jupiter is also aspecting Venus which is enhancing it's qualities of creativity and arts. He joined main stream bollywood and acted in many movies and gave super hit movies during this dasha.
Jupiter is also aspecting 7th house of business and legal partnership. So, he also founded his own production house I.e Red Chilli Entertainment with his wife.
3-When his Saturn Mahadasha came-
His Saturn is sitting in 7th house of business and legal partnership in its own sign of Aquarius. During that time his company Red Chilli Entertainment had already produced or co-produced at least nine films. He teamed up with a UAE based real estate firm with his wife Gauri for a residential complex right in front of the beach in Dubai.
As Saturn was also aspecting Mars from it's 10th aspect. Mars represent sports also.Therefore he also purchased Cricket team of Indian Premier League (IPL).
Because his 10th lord(the house of career) is sitting in 5th house(the house of creativity).
Remember, important in his journey is that he is working in the field of creativity. He had expanded all his business with the help of his creative and artistic skills(acting).
This shows that one should choose career field according to his/her 10th lord placement but should use that skill in that field only whose planetary dasha is going on.
Living with Him Episode Five Review
Tumblr media
Picture Credit: Living with Him Twitter Promotional Account.
A very sour and delicious Funazushi
I have to first say that this episode brought up more questions than I have wanted it to answer. It’s not solely about the fact that the LA is different than the manga. I think there are some uncomfortable plot executions which I think can be done much better in a different manner. I want to bring up two themes in this essay.
The Camping Subplot
The episode actually started out with the anticipated camping scene. Side note: Do Japanese people prefer to go camping when they want to decompress? I’ve seen the camping subplot used in Cherry Magic LA film, and they said that it’s also present in Eternal Yesterday. Anyway, the camping scene was cute, and it seems like the two, boy-, friends were enjoying themselves immensely. I don’t know what the point of the subplot to be quite frank. I saw three potential character-supporting features of the subplot.
First, it established the popularity of Kazuhito. In the manga, we were only told that Kazuhito was popular. Ryo’s sister told Ryo about Kazuhito-san’s popularity. Yoshieri told Ryo that Kazuhito was the most popular guy in high school. However, the LA actually gave us real example of Kazuhito’s popularity. When the two, boy-, friends were trying to cook, the fire starter that Ryo brought actually malfunctioned. Kazuhito and Ryo at first were already preparing to just not eat I suppose. Then, a group of campers came along. Kazuhito then asked to borrow their fire starter, they had one and lent it to him. They then recognized Kazuhito because they often watched Koshien. I was confused at first, but it turned out that Koshien is the national Japanese high school baseball league? I’m surprised that Japanese people pay attention to baseball so much. Come to think of it, I don’t really know what their most beloved sport is, Canada has hockey, India has cricket, what does Japan have? Is it just plain old football too? After being recognized, Kazuhito politely thanked them and went back to Ryo. I think this scene is crucial because in the manga, the way that they broke up and reunited Kazuhito and Ryo again is by making Ryo so anxious of how Kazuhito’s popularity and immediate surrounding will react if Kazuhito-san actually dates a guy. I think making Kazuhito tangibly famous will make this internal decision-making process of Ryo even more believable.
Secondly, it established Ryo’s jealousy over anyone that encounters Kazuhito. I think this is a very normal way of Japanese drama works. Jealousy for them is a very inseparable part of being in love. If you’re not jealous, you’re not in love with a person. I mean, Western drama or dramedy also uses this trope, but they always try to subvert and be above the trope and eventually cope with the jealousy, try to live side-by-side with it. Not in Japan, you’re not. Being jealous is a must until a clear winner emerges. In the episode, Ryo realized that Kazuhito was getting recognized and something in his head lit up. Then, when Kazuhito went back to Ryo, he asked Kazuhito about the encounter and continued by asking whether he wanted to have eat and sit down with them. Kazuhito then answered that he just wanted to eat with Ryo, just the two of them. Ryo celebrated this win by denying Kazuhito polite counteroffer of whether he would like to eat with them. It’s just funny to be quite frank, his jealousy of anyone who comes in contact with Kazuhito. I mean, Ryo has not acknowledged to himself that he likes Kazuhito yet he wants him all to himself, love is strange that way. This has always been funny, even in episode two when Yoshieri, Kazuhito and Ryo were walking in the campus, then Yoshieri and Kazuhito were talking about their workplace as they were also coworkers in a restaurant. After long description of the restaurant, all Ryo could fixate on was the fact that Yoshieri and Kazuhito were coworkers, talk about jealousy-fueled selective focusing lol. Funny how Ryo’s jealousy still stays the same even when he thought he didn’t have a chance as he had previously thought that Kazuhito’s secret crush was on Yoshieri.
Thirdly, we saw another example of Kazuhito gatekeeping Ryo lol. When the other camper group arrived, Kazuhito was the one who volunteered to come to them instead of Ryo. When Ryo wanted to return the lighter, it was Kazuhito who eventually took the lighter and brought it to them. I suppose this behavior was also exhibited in episode two when Yoshieri wanted to ask for Ryo’s number, yet Kazuhito was insistent that Yoshieri must not pester Ryo. She is not, gurl. This is all before taking into account Haruna’s shipping cupid-arrowing behaviors.
The After-Work Drinking Party
Now, this is the crux of my argument. This subplot has been foretold even in episode four, Yoshieri brought up casually the invitation of the mandatory drinking party when Ryo was still zoning out after waking up next to Kazuhito. Let me tell you why this scene is very crucial to me as someone who read the manga. Kazuhito was supposed to be surrounded by his coworkers, of course being the most popular guy and all. One of the senior superiors was just casually asking Kazuhito whether he had any girlfriends? Then, he said no, and Yoshieri sort of told the senior superiors to just lay off Kazuhito and not ask him out as he had never been interested in doing so since high school. The senior superiors kept insisting and wanted to ask him out, which then prompted Kazuhito to say, that he already had someone in mind. That made the conversation changed their assumption about using her pronoun and using them pronoun. After rereading chapter seven, I also just realized that the superiors were telling Kazuhito to go out and fool around with one of the people in the table so that Kazuhito’s crush would eventually answer back. That led to Kazuhito eventually refusing to do so because he didn’t want to worry them. His reaction made everyone melted their hearts. Kazuhito then ran through the rain and arrived at his and Ryo’s apartment, which prompted the breakup scene between the two. While Kazuhito was in the drinking party, Ryo was supposed to finally realize his fondness to Kazuhito, which will make the breakup scene make sense.
This is done differently for the LA series.
Sure, during the drinking party Kazuhito was the star of the party, no surprise there. When one of the senior superiors asked Kazuhito about who his girlfriend is, she was drunk and portrayed not like a professional superior at all, seemed more like she was down so bad for Kazuhito.
Now, I’m not one to talk down about women’s and female sexuality. However, if the question was brought up and the senior superior asked Kazuhito in a casual manner like in the manga, it would have been seen like just a casual question that the readers, or viewers, don’t really need to be worried about. Even if Kazuhito had answered yes, it would have not meant anything to either party as it was just a polite banter between a superior and a subordinate.
In the LA, they made Yoshieri shocked with the confession that Kazuhito actually had a crush. Why? What was the reason? Yes, I know that Yoshieri never really got a verbal confirmation that Kazuhito actually already has a crush, as she said it herself in the episode. However, she knew even when she was dating that Kazuhito already had someone in mind. I suppose they made Yoshieri shocked so that they could have a scene of Yoshieri blessing and supporting Kazuhito’s pursuit of his crush’s love. What is the significance of the scene though? Was it just so when Ryo became spiralled with the anxiety of dating Kazuhito, Kazuhito could counter it by saying that even his ex actually blessed Ryo and Kazuhito pairing? Maybe the answer will reveal itself in future episodes.
Lastly, what really enraged me about this subplot’s differences with the manga was the fact that Ryo did not come to his senses and actually find out that he likes Kazuhito back. I think this was because that they want to redo the breakup scene all over. I noticed that the 6th episode is about some flashback scenes and maybe filler plot, before coming to the breakup episode on the 7th. In the manga, it was because that Ryo already noticed his fondness of Kazuhito that he thought to himself that he could not continue his feelings toward Kazuhito as it had no future.
I sincerely hope that they will not erase the core reason of why Kazuhito and Ryo break up, Ryo’s insecurities of dating a much more popular guy.
All in all, a still very good episode, the camping episode made me smile so hard. Watch it yall !
Happy Birthday
dabi × afab she/her and poc friendly reader
safe for work // 1,633 words // AO3. warnings: smoking, swearing, cheesy, dabi has an avoidant attachment style, self-harm mention but nothing happens.
summary: He wanted this conversation to be over and done with, snuffed out like a cigarette under his boot. It'd be easy enough to end it himself, all he had to do was be an asshole and leave you behind. Nothing he hadn't done before.
Tumblr media
"Knock knock, mind if I join you?"
"Yes."
"I brought cake."
He turned his head slightly towards you, eyeing the paper plate in your hands. In it sat a pretty little slice of glazed strawberry cake with a plastic fork stabbed into it. You had made sure to pile on a bunch of strawberries, just for him.
You may have been the newest addition to the League of Villains, but it wasn't hard to figure out that he was intentionally a loner. Criminals were usually careful not to form close connections with others and the League was no exception. Although, that didn't stop you from being on friendly terms with the other members. They even threw a birthday party for you tonight. With karaoke.
Whereas, Dabi evacuated the mansion at the first sign of a celebration. He rose from his chair when Toga and Twice carried out the cake hidden under a mountain of candles and he was out of the building by the time Mr. Compress enthusiastically accompanied their vocals with a spirited harmonization.
His eyes glanced down at you as he blew smoke out of the side of his mouth and flicked his cigarette away. You frowned.
"That could start a forest fire."
"I could start a forest fire." There was a subtle twitch of his lip that would have went unnoticed had the clouds not cleared from in front of the moon in time.
You offer him the cake, which he wordlessly took, ignoring you as you snuffed out his cigarette. Once no longer lit, you shoved it in your pocket to properly throw out later. You crossed your arms and leaned against the tree, staring out at the umbrous silhouettes of the coniferous forest.
"Being this far out from the city is so nice. Fresh air, no noise pollution. Bunch of stars."
"There's noise pollution," Dabi swallowed down a strawberry. "Y'make it every time you open that dumb mouth."
You snorted in amusement. "I guess you're right about that, but I know you'd miss me if I stopped talking to you."
"If I never have to hear you yappin' at me again, it'd be too soon."
You playfully blew a raspberry at him in fake-annoyance. "You'd have to find someone else to bug you." You pursed your lips. "He's already got Toga, but I'm sure Twice could squeeze in a second best friend," you teased.
He rolled his eyes as he took another bite.
"Spinner?"
"The hell am I gonna talk about with that lizard?"
"First of all, it's a gecko quirk and you know that so don't be mean," you declared in defense of your comrade. "Though, you're right -- what would you talk about? I assume that also means no Tomura? I don't think I've ever seen you guys talk casually before -- aside from the dryest conversation about the weather… Maybe if we find some common ground between you two--"
"Fuck no."
"Aww, hey, he's not that bad. He's just…"
You rubbed at your neck unsure of what to say to that. Nothing you could say would change his thoughts on the matter. You weren't particularly close with Shigaraki, he had his own way of going about things which could be off-putting to most, but he just struck you as an awkward person who grew up without much social contact.
"The League sure is full of lonely people, huh?" You looked back up at the star-filled night for a few minutes, the both of you settling into a comfortable silence. An owl hooted in the distance as a cricket began to chirp from somewhere nearby. "I've always wondered if shooting stars ever got lonely."
"Sorry," you shake your head and laugh in embarrassment. "I like stars. Do you?"
"Stupid question."
You wondered if it really was and thought about how stars must seem miniscule to someone capable of burning as brightly as him. You leaned your head against the trunk and watched him finish his cake.
Earlier in the day, while writing down a list of necessary ingredients to bake and decorate the cake, there had been a conversation about birthdays. You couldn't remember who exactly brought up the topic, but you certainly weren't expecting the other members to easily give away that information. Unsurprisingly, Dabi was the only one that didn't share his.
He followed a gust of wind that swept through the night and as he passed you, flicked his plastic fork at you. You clumsily caught it and complained, only earning his indifference in return. He turned his back to you and set the paper plate ablaze. You opened your mouth to remind him of trashcans and how they still exist, but the words died in your throat as you watched the smoke get carried away by the breeze, away from you. You were secretly grateful that he was too busy making his way to an adjacent tree to notice you bite back a smile.
"Dabi."
"What is it now?" He leaned against his new tree and lazily shoved his hands in his pockets. He was always good at keeping his distance.
"You don't have to tell me your birthday."
He scoffed, "Way to state the obvious."
"We can share mine."
He narrowed his eyes at you, analyzing you for any sign of a punchline but your face was earnest. Annoyingly so.
"What makes you think I want your dumb birthday?"
"It's not that I think you want it, but wouldn't it be nice to have a day to celebrate… you?"
"What's there to celebrate," he sneered. He didn't mean for it to be taken so seriously, but the dopey look of concern on your face made him regret he said anything. Your brows furrowed.
"A lot. There's a lot to celebrate."
"Don't get all mushy, you're creepin' me out."
"Am I?"
"Yes," he growled. He wanted this conversation to be over and done with, snuffed out like a cigarette under his boot. It'd be easy enough to end it himself. All he had to do was be an asshole and leave you behind. Nothing he hadn't done before.
Deep, deep down there was a hungry part of him that ached. It belonged to the part of him that he had refused to acknowledge for the past seven years. He continued to ignore it's existence despite it being the very thing that kept him rooted in place, as though he were one of the trees in this giant fucking forest. The frustration it filled his chest with made him want to light himself on fire.
"At the expense of sounding like a creep…" You chewed on your bottom lip as you stared back up at the stars. Your fingers fiddled with a loose thread on your clothes. You were so easy to read.
"I'm really glad you're here."
Another breeze passed between the two of you, carrying your words along and rustling leaves. You looked over at him with eyes that overflowed with a depth of sincerity that made him want to start a wildfire and let himself get caught in it. He felt physically ill.
 "You're gonna make me sick."
One of Dabi's eyes squinted more than the other as his tongue poked out of his mouth enough for you to see his piercings. The way his face scrunched reminded you of a cat's Flehmen response. You would've thought it was cute if you didn't feel so offended right now.
You huffed, staring at the grass as you tried to ignore the heat that crept up to your cheeks. "Was it really that bad?"
"Cheesy as hell. Keep that shit to yourself."
You shook it off and sighed exaggeratedly. "Well, since you seemed to like it so much, I might have to do it again for you some time." You stuck your tongue out at him playfully.
"Don't you fuckin' dare or I'll roast you on the spot."
You grinned and opened your mouth to offer a lighthearted retort when you heard your name being called in the distance. You turned to look around the tree and saw Toga waving you over for your turn at karaoke. You waved back at the younger girl in acknowledgement before she hopped back inside the mansion.
"I'm surprised they managed to pry the mic out of Mr.'s hands long enough to give someone else a turn," you laughed. "See you later. I'm glad you liked the cake."
"Yeah, yeah."
He pulled out a pack of smokes from his jacket and stuck a cigarette in between his lips. He lit it and watched as you fiddled with the plastic fork he flicked at you earlier. "What're you still doing here for?"
You smiled at him.
"Happy birthday."
"Tch, cheesy," he spoke humorlessly as you turned away. "By the way..."
You looked back at him and felt your face burning up as you saw his gaze drop from your eyes down to your lips.
"…Dabi?"
He smirked.
"Y'got cake on your face."
You blinked a few times as you processed his words before swiping your mouth. You looked at your hand to see the vivid scarlet of the strawberry glaze.
"Oh." You looked at it for a moment before wiping it against your clothes and giving an awkward laugh, "Um, thanks."
"You got a room full of ears to make bleed, mine've had enough. Get outta here."
You laughed before you jogged back to the mansion. He stared at the ground where you previously stood and took a drag. With each inhale, the toxins purged his body of a restlessness that had been stirred by the zephyr of your words.
You talk too much.
He looked up in time to see you wave goodbye at him before you disappeared inside. He breathed in another lungful of fumes before exhaling it up at the same sky that always seemed to captivate you.
"Happy birthday."
Boxing Day
The best way to celebrate the day is to take part in festivities in a country where Boxing Day is a bank holiday or public holiday. Watch some soccer, rugby, or cricket games, or go on a traditional fox hunt. If you can’t be in a country where these events are taking place, you could still get together with family and friends and eat leftovers from Christmas, or make some foods traditionally eaten on Boxing Day. You could also go shopping, as this is another important part of the day in many countries.
Boxing Day takes place the day after Christmas and is primarily observed in the United Kingdom, where it started, as well as in countries that were once part of the British crown. There are a few possible theories as to how it got started, but its exact origin is unclear.
One theory says it was inspired by Christmas boxes. In seventeenth-century Great Britain, boxes holding a present or gratuity were given to tradesman and workers in service industries for their previous year’s work. This went back to an even earlier tradition where servants would wait on and serve their rich masters on Christmas Day and would visit and celebrate with their own families on the day after Christmas. Their rich masters would sometimes give them a box with leftover food, a bonus, or another type of gift.
The day may have also stemmed from alms boxes that were put in Anglican churches on Christmas Day or during Advent and opened on the day after Christmas. These boxes collected money for the poor. Similarly, boxes were put outside of churches to collect money on Saint Stephen’s Day, which is held the day after Christmas. The events in the song “Good King Wenceslas” take place on Saint Stephen’s Day. The song recounts a story of King Wenceslas, a Bohemian king of the tenth century, bringing food and wine to a poor man. There is one other possible source for the beginning of the day. Ships once set sail containing a box of money for good luck. If the trip was a success, the box would be given to a priest, and he would open it on Christmas and give its contents to the poor.
Boxing Day has been a bank holiday in England, Wales, North Ireland, and Canada since 1871. It is celebrated in Australia, New Zealand, Trinidad and Tobago, and Nigeria. It is celebrated in Hong Kong, where the United Kingdom held sovereignty until 1997. In Ireland and in parts of Spain, it is known as Saint Stephen’s Day. It is celebrated as Second Christmas Day in some European countries, such as Poland, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland and the Netherlands; it is celebrated as such in Scandinavia as well. Boxing Day is generally not celebrated in the United States.
In some countries where it is celebrated as a bank holiday or public holiday, it is observed a day or two after December 26. If December 26 takes place on a Saturday, it may be observed the following Monday. If December 26 is on a Sunday, it may be observed on the following Tuesday. This is not always the case, however, as it is often observed on a Sunday if it falls on a Sunday.
Boxing Day is a day of the gathering of family and friends. Leftovers from Christmas are commonly eaten. Popular foods include baked ham, mince pies, Christmas cakes, and other desserts. In many countries of celebration, it is a shopping day similar to Black Friday. Sales take place and many retailers run them the whole week. Although, in some places, such as in parts of Canada, stores aren’t allowed to be open, in order to give families time to be together instead.
Sports are an important part of Boxing Day. In the United Kingdom, the top football (soccer) leagues of England, Scotland, and Northern Ireland play games. Lower leagues play games as well, and rugby leagues also hold matches. In various countries, events of other sports, such as cricket, horse racing, yacht racing, hockey, and boxing are often held to celebrate the day. Fun runs and swims in the cold English Channel take place. Fox hunting meets have been held for hundreds of years. A law passed in 2004, which went into effect the following year, banned the use of dogs to attack animals during hunts. But hunters have still used their dogs to chase artificial scents on the day, and have still gone on hunts where dogs are used to flush out foxes, but not to attack them.
Boxing Day, also known as Saint Stephen’s Day and Second Christmas Day, is being observed today! It has always been observed annually on December 26th.
A Showdown for the Ages: AFL Grand Final - Collingwood Magpies vs. Brisbane Lions
Tumblr media
The Australian Football League (AFL) Grand Final is the pinnacle of Australian Rules Football, a day when two of the country's top teams go head to head in a clash of skill, strategy, and determination. In this article, we delve into the anticipation, history, and excitement surrounding the blockbuster matchup between the Collingwood Magpies and the Brisbane Lions.
The Magpies' Pursuit of Glory
Collingwood is a name synonymous with AFL success. They have a rich history dating back to 1892 and are one of the most successful clubs in the league. With 16 premierships to their name, the Magpies are always considered contenders for the title. This year, they have a talented squad led by captain Scott Pendlebury and coach Nathan Buckley, both of whom have their sights set on bringing another premiership cup to the club's illustrious history.
The Rise of the Brisbane Lions
On the other side of the coin, the Brisbane Lions are a relatively new franchise in the AFL landscape, formed in 1996 through the merger of the Brisbane Bears and the Fitzroy Lions. However, despite their short history, the Lions have achieved remarkable success, winning three consecutive premierships from 2001 to 2003. This year, under the guidance of coach Chris Fagan, the Lions have made it back to the Grand Final and are eager to add another chapter to their success story.
Key Matchups
The Grand Final is not only about the teams; it's also about the individual battles that unfold on the field. This year, fans can look forward to some thrilling matchups:
Scott Pendlebury vs. Lachie Neale: Two of the league's best midfielders will go head to head in the battle for supremacy at the center. Pendlebury's class and poise against Neale's relentless ball-winning ability will be a spectacle to watch.
Taylor Adams vs. Dayne Zorko: These two midfield bullies will be pivotal in their respective teams' efforts. Adams' toughness and contested ball-winning skills will be matched against Zorko's agility and creativity.
Mason Cox vs. Harris Andrews: In the forward line, Collingwood's Mason Cox, known for his towering presence and marking ability, will face the daunting task of competing against Brisbane's Harris Andrews, one of the league's premier defenders.
Historical Significance
This Grand Final carries a unique historical significance as it represents the clash between the old and the new. Collingwood, with its long and storied history, is the epitome of tradition and excellence in the AFL, while Brisbane, a relatively young club, symbolizes the league's expansion and growth beyond its traditional heartlands.
Both teams have their own compelling narratives – Collingwood seeking to add to their illustrious trophy cabinet, and Brisbane aiming to establish themselves as a modern-day dynasty. The result of this contest will shape the AFL's history and future.
The Fan Experience
The AFL Grand Final is not just about what happens on the field; it's also a festival of football for fans. Thousands will flock to the Melbourne Cricket Ground (MCG), while millions more will watch from their homes or local pubs, making it one of Australia's most-watched sporting events.
The atmosphere at the MCG is electric, with fans decked out in team colors, face paint, and waving banners. The pre-game entertainment is always a highlight, featuring top Australian musical acts. Whether you're a die-hard supporter or a casual fan, the Grand Final is an event that brings people together to celebrate their love for the sport.
The clash between the Collingwood Magpies and the Brisbane Lions in the AFL Grand Final promises to be a memorable showdown. It's a battle of tradition and history versus modern success and growth, with both teams having a lot at stake. As the teams take to the field, the eyes of the nation will be fixed on the MCG, awaiting the crowning of this year's AFL champion. Regardless of the outcome, one thing is certain – the 2023 AFL Grand Final will be a spectacle of Australian Rules Football at its finest.
also daily anon here again i sent that early because I didn't wanna lose the link but I'm excited about this and wanna talk about it. idk if you know much about cricket,i know it's not as popular in the US, but it's a massive deal here. so the cricket world cup is going on right now and India is hosting. there's 9 countries that qualified, so first there's 45 league matches of each of the 9 countries playing each other, then based on the run rate (basically the more runs you win by, the more points you get) the top four get to the semis, then finals. our team absolutely murdered the league games, won all 9, the last few matches were downright humiliating for our opponents (suck it england). but our team has a semifinal curse, this is usually as far as we get. and this time it was against new zealand, which is a really really really good team, and also one we lost a semifinal to a while ago when our campaign was looking good, so today was a very important match. there were literally prayers going around all over the country for us to win. and it was a tight match for a bit, but we crushed them and broke the curse and broke a bunch of very important records. kohli broke the record for most centuries in ODIs, beating a man considered the god of modern cricket also they had a cute little moment where after our innings tendulkar came down to congratulate him for breaking his record, there wasn't a dry eye in the house. also one of our bowlers got seven wickets. SEVEN. out of the total ten. in this house we worship shami. also new zealand is good at chasing, but we scored almost 400 which is literally insane. we beat them by 70 whole runs. not the biggest margin we've won by recently, but still fucking impressive
literally every new zealand wicket (a wicket is when a batter from the opposite team gets out btw i just remembered you might not know cricket so some of this might be gibberish), we could hear people in my neighborhood lighting fireworks, and when we won the match, there was literally screams everywhere and so many people brought out their Diwali firework leftovers
the final is on Sunday and i know it'll be a hard match, especially if Australia win their semi but. we're in the final can you believe it!!!!
Hiii, i have heard of cricket cause I watched a lot of British shows when I was younger but I went and looked it up cause I had a feeling I was imagining lacrosse as I was reading. And I was but i did also happen up the scores and looked more into it and it's so fascinating. And I'm so glad that you're team is absolutely sweeping the competition and breaking curses and records. And it must be amazing to hear everyone around you celebrating and cheering for your wins. And also yeah suck it England, when England loses the whole world wins, no offense to the British but you know what your country did. Yay you're in the finals!!! oh I really wish you guys the best on Sunday. It's been cold and rainy all day today so I'm happy to know that the sun is shining somewhere.
