Born in Almería in 1930. In 1950 he becomes one of the co-founders of AFAL (Almería Photo Association) and of the association’s magazine. This sets the pillars upon which a new style of Spanish documentary photography will be based. His initial works focused on capturing the realities of the La Chanca neighbourhood in Almería. The aesthetics of his style changed with the shift from black and white to colour. His protagonists were no longer individuals, and he photographed details instead, with a certain pop style influence. In 1963 he began working with the Ministry of Information and Tourism, completing diverse works of international repercussion. He always lived in his hometown, and made Almería a driving force for photography in Spain. He died in Almeria in 2021.
