holy shit that new trailer made me so fucking sad i have to adopt xiao as a sibling figure now. lore rant under cut
its just. the "fighting hard to not become the very thing they swore to destroy" trope always HITS and xiao is such a tragic character through and through that i think itd be hard for anyone to not feel sorry for him, once they have a deeper look into his story. it can be easy to dismiss him as the growling edgelord character but really just a deeper look in and u can see just how...... sad he is
ive said before that i hold a soft spot for adepti lore- after developing lore for xue yin ive come to rly appreciate what the adepti symbolise n common themes that they have, and how it connects to the overarching themes of genshin as a whole.
idk if ive said this before? i forget what i say in my (few) lore rants here LMFAO but i feel that genshin is, to me, a story about grief. about loss. how it happens, how people cope with it, and how they ultimately move on. a more obvious theme in the narrative is ushering in a new era- mond and inazuma having already done this imo by thriving without their archon's guidance, liyue moving on from the loss of rex lapis, and sumeru finally reuniting with their archon. but in order to welcome a new era you have to say goodbye to the old one- you have to lose the old one and move on. such as the archons have to cherish but move on from old friends and old memories, the people have to as well
adepti are sort of deital beings who served the same purpose for thousands of years and now have to learn to adjust to a liyue thats rapidly changed before their very eyes- and they deal with this change. some of them have already started (ganyu, madame ping), and it comes easier for them
but not for xiao.
im very much not qualified or informed enough to make an in-depth analysis on this specifically but ill say that xiao's current story focuses on his recovery from his ptsd. and i dont think im informed enough to talk about ptsd so i wont- but his recovery is so very carefully written in that its so slow. he's not quick to accept these things and can even be harsh about them. not only is his duty ingrained in his brain from years and years of war, but he is physically unable to stop, lest he succumbs to his karmic debt.
(at least. thats how i remember it. cries if im wrong)
i love how we got an update on him during lantern rite actually (i mean, lantern rite is always xiao time but yk), bc ive been dying to know how hes been since we last saw him in the chasm. and it looks like hes been doing the same old things he usually does- but hes making an active decision in getting better, and that makes me proud of him!!!
he interacts with baizhu and qiqi now (though he leaves right away lol, but from their interactions this isnt the first time theyve taken care of him. cute!!) and he even walks around liyue harbour instead of just leaving, even letting a little girl interact with him and letting her grandpa give him some rice wine (from venti noticing that he's already drank, by the time they see each other)
of course, it's hard- hes constantly haunted by his debt. by the demons he's slayed. by the evil he's purged. by himself. he has nightmares about himself- about his fear of one day becoming the very evil he swore to purge. that's why we get those nightmares of the two xiaos- in it, hes the one with the mask on. hes succumbed to the darkness, and he cant take it off- hes become the very thing he swore to destroy.

Despite my spontaneous idea while writing, sometimes, I also like to have the difference and planned about what I'm going to write with details. For "Siren", there were chapters that I planned with details which goes up to 6 hours and above, and chapters that I just spontaneously write in less than 3 hours. I want to talk about this actually on my feed but I barely got any interactions so I think like "ahh, maybe I don't really have to do that" because it might seemed like I'm full og myself lol.

overall this season was pretty decent. i have some thots whats new so im gonna share them below the cut if anyone’s interested :)
so!! first off i’ll say that there were a lot of things i did really enjoy from season 4!
the action was super fun as always!! i loved all the crazy enemies and callbacks! the skeleton fight and all those little goblins they kept killing throughout were a nice touch ;) sypha’s use of her powers is INSANE her ice-chainsaw?? her WALL of fire?? electric balls?? come on. and the animation was NICE. i really wanna know who did most of the fight scenes bcuz the style is so different and it just POPS but in a really good way?
my favorite fight has to be ofc when everyone is REUNITED yes im basic. but the THEME song going off and well, im a whore for sotn references and i CAME when i saw the leap stone ref w the winged cape or when alucard turned into a hoard of batss AND THEN HIS WOLF FORM OOOOHH BABY!!! actually episode 9 is just a straight banger.

carmilla vs isaac was a lot of fun and i loved the visuals but my hype was instantly ruined when i saw her kill herself 😭but thats smth i’ll complain about later.

BUT when they hit they did GOOD. “the fuck what now?” yes
ISAAC. you weren’t in this season as much but man do u still shine through. i loved his introduction back in the town where he has his night creatures digging graves and rebuilding the city 😭 and then the conversation he shares w his flyman?? obsessed.

oh! alucard actually having a story & purpose in the plot? :) luv it love to see it. that being said... the Plot.
its... ok? it’s kind of split up into 3/4 parts, as the story progresses, one eventually merges with several of the others kind of? cohesively? while leaving the other to sort itself out.
now, i didnt have too many qualms with it, it was pretty straight forward. dracula is going to be resurrected and we have sypha and trevor looking in on it, while alucard helps the nearby village and hector and isaac go on about bringing on their inevitable showdown. however, the way the story was paced and some of the decisions they made... werent so great.
st. germain for example, brought the ENTIRE momentum from the last few episodes to a halt. you have sypha and trevor fighting through heaps and heaps of monsters only to find themselves back in Targoviste where they meet the mysterious Zamfir!! and Alucard!! he’s been asked to help save this village!! all jam-packed with crazy action and animation that leaves you fired up!! and then episode 5 comes to a screeching halt and we spend nearly the entire thing on st. germain’s backstory and explaining his motives for the rest of the season
like. imma be real with you chief: he didnt need to be here lol. you could have just left varney as the main vamp in charge of bringing back big daddy drac and he could reveal to his.. idk henchmen or something that he’s death. but u gotta fill them ten 20 minute slots somehow!! he just fell so flat and unfortunately, a lot of the side-characters suffer from this this season.
i enjoyed great and zamfir, i love their desgins esp, but they really could have been fleshed out more. zamfir is shown as nothing but a spoiled brat the majority of the time she’s on screen but they wait till she’s about to die to try and turn her character around? huh? greta is given a bit more screentime but this sudden confession of feelings in the last episode felt so... huh?? why couldnt she just be dedicated to her people and show that u can love someone w/out necessarily being their partnr? i thot that was her whole thing; taking care of her people. it’s like. where did this come from. they cant have known each other more than a week at most dog 😭
it sucks they dedicated to much time to scenes that didnt really need to be there where we could have gotten this proper development, like maybe have a scene zamfir and sypha connect over struggles they’ve dealt with in the past and that has her open up about how traumatizing dracula’s attack on her city was. u could have expanded upon her role in the court and WHY she worshipped the monarchy so much instead of making it a throwaway gag about her being “crazy”. but why have that when we could instead spend the first 5 minutes of said episode watching a monotonous back-and-forth b/w varney and that big burly russian vampire who’s name im sure mor than 98% of the audience cant even remember?
just a lot of fat that needed to be trimmed so that the actual MEAT of the story could be slow cooked to perfection. people really arent kidding when they say less is more.
another big problem i had was there... i dont even know what to call it, re-humanization? redemption? of Lenore. like lmk if im wrong but she manipulated hector, yeah? coerced sex to slip on that ring that binds him to her?? orr whatever weird shit warren’s into. but the way they interacted, ESPECIALLY in their first major scene together was sooo uncomfortable to watch lol at first i thought perhaps hector was only playing along because well. hes enslaved to do her and carmilla’s bidding. but no, he actually LIKES her. he spares her when isaac comes around, he says that he wants to keep her as his own. and in the meantime, lenore finds time to complain to a man that’s been beaten and enslaved how upset it makes her that carmilla got angry at her 😭 or says thats she tired of isaac keeping tabs on her and wants to escape this ‘cage’. to aman thats literally been imprisoned since youve known him 😭her death is seen as peaceful, calm, they even try and tug at ur heartstrings by swelling this sad, dramatic music as the sun rises. really? LENORE?
and carmilla’s death happened WAYY too early imo. she was the villain for practically 3 seasons and this is how she goes? isaac couldnt get more than a stab at her? his night creatures couldnt take a nibble? HECTOR couldnt even be given a chance to do somethng like come on
the resolution was... strange? it was cute!! and happy!! but i dunno if they really needed to have lisa and vlad coming back, but, like i said; it was cute! definitely not the ending i was expecting.
i’m glad that they put their focus back on what made the show so much fun and that was the FIGHTS. they definitely helped add some much needed spice to things when scenes started to drag, but im a gal that really luvs a good story and even though reviews were raving that this season helped closed the lid on all the themes theyd been exploring, i just didnt really see that. which isnt necessarily a BAD thing, i knew i wasnt gonna find some deep introspective themes in this hack n slash horror-fantasy, its just what can turn somethng like this from an ok show to a GREAT one.
in the end, im glad they stopped at this one and im curious to see if they really DO go ahead on making spin-offs. bcuz unfortunately, i will always be down for som new castlevania content

So, please be serious here: what exactly is so bad about Voltron? I heard that the fandom became terrible at some point, (?) but I genuinely have no clue about what went wrong beyond that!
ok let’s get into it but i am going to warn you this is a HUGE shitshow. im putting it under a readmore because its so much and i dont want to subject anyone to this unless they actually want to know lol
there are 2 main issues that i can remember with voltron itself, not even touching the fandom, and those are bad writing and queerbaiting/homophobia.
I could go on and on about the bad writing, but the gist of it is that about halfway through voltron’s two-year production schedule, the writers scrapped the show’s bible. which, i feel like i shouldnt have to say this, but you really should not do. after this point the story went EXTREMELY off the rails, ending with the unforeshadowed death of a main character which didn’t really make sense in context. (i didn’t watch season 8 but from what I heard her death was like.. pretty graphic for a kids show too).
Aside from that, what appealed to me and many people about voltron in its first few seasons was that it was a very character driven show and each character was given a good amount of development and screen time. However, by about season 4 certain characters were being unceremoniously pushed aside in favor of others. After the mess that was the end of voltron, it came out that the head writers were doing this kind of thing to spite the side of the fandom who heavily critiqued them.
next let’s get into the queerbaiting and homophobia. this is where it gets REALLY messy. i beieve one of the showrunners had promised lgbt rep at a panel in 2016, but i can’t confirm that. basically, everyone believed that there would be lgbt rep and everyone had been waiting a very long time for said rep.
So let’s set the scene. it’s the voltron panel at san diego comic con 2018. at this panel, they plan to show the first episode of the upcoming season, season 7. after they show the episode, the panel, which includes the two showrunners and a few voice actors, take questions from the audience. In the episode that they play at the panel, there is a short flashback scene where one of the paladins, shiro, talks to another man, adam. Adam was a character we had never seen before. Adam and shiro were implied in the scene to be close, but there was no explicit confirmation in this scene of weather adam’s relationship with shiro was romantic or not. After the episode finished, the audience was allowed to ask questions. One of the questions was, of course, regarding adam and shiro. one of the showrunners confirmed that they were not only together, but engaged, and that we would be seeing more of adam in the upcoming season 7. cue fandom chaos. everyone is freaking out that they finally got the lgbt rep they had been waiting for, everyone is praising the writers and making fanart of shiro and adam and wondering what kind of great reunion scene the two will get when season 7 drops.
then season 7 drops. adam and shiro do not get their happy reunion. In fact, the only scene with adam in it in the whole season, aside from the short scene that was shown at sdcc, is a very short cut where adam dies in a fighter crash.
and yes it’s two years later and i am still angry about this so the rest of this is going to be worded very angrily. shiro got a two second scene of him looking sadly at a plaque with adam’s name on it. shiro did not get to reunite with his fiancee. adam was never even explicitly confirmed to BE SHIROS FIANCEE in the show. if you were watching it without the context of the sdcc panel, you could write it off as them being close friends. (in fact, there was a seperate dub recorded of the scene in episode 1 where adam specifically calls shiro his ‘best friend’ NOT his fiancee, but we’re not even gonna get into that shitshow.) basically, they buried their gays, and they buried them BIG TIME. it was especially heinous in the eyes of many (me included) because they released the news of shiro’s sexuality at sdcc with that episode and then ripped it away from us when they killed adam.
at the end of season 8 there was a montage of clips showing what happened to the paladins after voltron. Shiro’s showed him getting married to a male background character he had never actually interacted with, presumably a half assed apology from the writers after the uproar after season 7.
aside from the whole adam deal, there was an f/f alien couple (zethrid/ezor) who were implied to be in a romantic relationship and then immediately afterwards tried to torture the main characters. we love gay villains! so quirky and not at all homophobic!!

I really loved Levi and Hanji's moments in this chapter. They were amazing. Actually they were my favourite parts. They were actually so heartwarming and before this chapter I never thought of them in a romantic way, but after that I can totally see it. Either way though, I love their relationship
I loved it too. I loved everything about it. I personally don’t see Levi and Hange’s relationship in a romantic light but that doesn’t lesson my appreciation for this moment. It’s everything that I wanted.
I wrote about my hope for a scenario like this almost a year ago. In that post I mentioned chapter 52 where after the murder of Minister Nick, Hange was ready to give up.
I wrote, “Back then, Levi was able to give them the boost they needed. I don’t know if Levi is in any shape to do similarly now, but I’d like to hope he can. Saying the right thing in a desperate situation is pretty much Levi’s wheelhouse. No matter what, being together is a benefit for both of them. I’m happy Hange and Levi are reunited at this point in the story.”
While I wasn’t happy with the pace, Isayama’s art shined in this chapter. Hange especially. You could see every emotion on their face, their anguish, their worries, their bravery, their courage. Hange has never been a quitter. Levi was right to remind them of that, although Hange was moving forward before the encouragement.
I love them both. I love their relationship. I’m glad they have each other. Their interactions was highlight for me this chapter.

I CANT PICK JUST ONE OKAY? THEY’RE ALL GREAT! IN THIS ESSAY I WILL TELL YOU WHAT I LOVE ABOUT ALL YOUR MUSES!
Let’s start with G-man. How do I love this man, let me count the fuckin’ ways! First we got his relationship with Sans. I’ve always wanted a dad figure for him that wasn’t my own Gaster. You gave me a great opportunity for that. I love all the varying degrees of the timelines for them. From a small kid growing up with chronic illness and his dad panicking over him, to full blown fights about his origin and learning the truth of where he came from, to the tragedy of watching his father get yoinked into the void. I JUST LOVE THEM SO MUCH!
AND DON’T GET ME FUCKING STARTED ON SWINGDINGS. Oh my God these wholesome struggling single dads in love just melts my fucking heart. I love how G takes a scientific approach to everything but is slowly starting to let things just naturally happen. I love how he’s helping Swap get over his trauma from his previous marriage. Even them getting to the point where the get engaged just kills me. And the whole wholesome goopy dads reuniting in the void together just alkfghsdflkjghsldkfj I LOVE IT *flips table*
Now we move on to Grillby. KLJDFGHLDFKJ I just- I love him so much. He’s so S O F T and just a good bean! His interactions with Sans just also make me melt, but this kinky mother fucker also makes Sans melt in more ways than one lmao; gentleman in the bar, freak in the bed lol. But seriously the way he takes care of others like Ebon during the time just after they’re sealed underground, to caring for his bf, to caring for those of the afterlife in our Dusttale AU just kill me. He’s such a good egg and I’m love.
Then we got Mr. Hot Shot Ferno who’s just a vulgar stink man fuck boi who Red would die for. He loves how sweet and adoring his totally not bf can be. I just love how caring and gentle he can be but also how absolutely gremlin this man can be. He’s the perfect balance of innuendos and class. Love this mans I swear. He’s gonna give Fell a goddamn bi-awakening. Fell would also die for him ngl
And lastly there’s Flambeau and omfg this southern bell little twink is an absolute fucking delight. He’s just a cute kinkster and Blue is like 100% here for that. He’s also just an absolute sweet heart when comforting Blue and I cannot wait for more interactions with this boi. Love him to pieces.

I’m gonna have a lot to say in my inevitable essay to you but ahhh??? oh my god????? thank you?????? I’m so glad you like my assortment of many fire lads and also one (1) skeleton!!! And I realized partway through writing this that it was basically turning into my essay back to you so idk here we go!
I love Sans and Gaster’s relationship so much! G-man has very unique and interesting relationships with both his boys, and I think writing out how he is as a father was one of the things that really helped him blossom into his current characterization. I enjoy the way that their relationship is genuinely loving but complicated. Gaster sometimes struggles to understand what Sans is thinking or feeling, but he always tries, and Sans carries so many conflicting emotions on his shoulders but at the end of the day still just really loves his dad. It feels really genuine and realistic and I just like it a lot!
ALSO SWINGDINGS, I’m definitely getting into this when I write my post out to you, but their relationship is so endearing and just so!!! Charmingly WHOLESOME! You do such a great job with Swap, writing him as someone who’s been through so much but is still so kind and so gentle and just loves his family so much. I feel for G because it really just makes you fall in love with him. I’ve enjoyed seeing the sides of Swap that his and G’s budding romance has brought out of him, and I’m so HERE for Goopy Beach Wedding someday in the future.
Going back to Classic!!! I love me some OG UT Sans, and I love how you write him. His relationship with Grillby has been so sweet to write out, and with all the shit Sans has been through it’s been nice to see him just get to have some uncomplicated fun with somebody, whether it’s just cute flirting at the bar or wild kinky fun in Grillby’s apartment. And that just makes it hit all the harder when you start dipping into Dusttale shenanigans and the darker, more complicated elements of writing Classic boy.
On that note HOLY MOLY I LOVE YOUR DUSTTALE THREADS SO MUCH???? If the fact that I made a whole-ass playlist for one damn thread wasn’t enough of an indicator lmao. Dusty has this very maliciously cold and cruel side to him that you do a good job of tempering with those moments of genuine grief and guilt, and it feels very much like he’s sort of... playing a role that he feels he has to in order to get this shit done, while also just finally letting loose all of that anger and frustration piled on from endless resets. The fact that I just keep making different Dusttale Grillbys to interact with Dusttale Sans is probably a sign of how much I love him and I am... I am a little sorry for that lmao.
Red!! Red is so great!! He and Ferno are a really interesting match in a lot of ways, and I love the way that they both sort of care for each other. Both of them have their unhealthy coping mechanisms, but they’re always right there to support each other through whatever they’re going through. I think what I love most about Red is something Ferno said in one post ages ago about why he loves Red--that he takes so much shit just all the time but he still cares so much about the people he loves.
Which is... incidentally one thing I love about how you write Fell too, lmao, and the threads today were such a good example of that. He carries so much on his shoulders and puts up with so much, and of course it weighs on him but he can’t let that show. I can totally see why Ferno, meeting Fell at the lowest point in his life, ended up just so hardcore ride-or-die for him, and why he believes in him so damn much. I also kind of think this thing we’re backfilling with Ferno just having had it bad for Fell for years has been interesting to play around with just... across the board??? and I am so here for Fell’s bi awakening.
And Blue!!!! Sweet little sugar skull!!! We haven’t done too much with him and Flambe yet but Blue is such a gosh darn cutiepie and I’m always happy to see him on my dash! I love all the threads you do with him, whether he’s fanboying over Napstabot or getting all kinds of fucked up on Orange’s edibles. Or getting hella kinky with Flambeau.

I don't always love when characters don't stay dead but I'm completely happy w/it here for multiple reasons, like the fact that I really like rewind and chromedome’s story after this arc - like, I LOVE that they addressed the fact that rewind 2 is different from OG rewind, despite being fundamentally the same person, so he and cd cant just immediately get back together and pretend everything's fine, but also there's really only an 18 month (?i think) disparity between the 2 rewinds which is nothing compared to literal millions of years, soooo
ALSO I literally never considered this until this reread but it would've been kind of an L for rewind to die and stay dead considering that rewind and cd were The First transformers gay couple, and that's a really big deal! and I don't really consider it bury your gays bc like, rewind doesn't stay dead that long and also there are soooo many other gays, but STILL
plus rewind and cd ended up having a lot of story left to get thru, which is awesome
also I just love rewind so I'm glad he’s back :)

I fucking love this scene bc this is basically the culmination of brainstorm being Completely Ominous for the entire story thus far, like, it really hit me this readthru that brainstorm was so totally sinister for like most of his screentime up until this arc...and this scene is the pinnacle, I love how everything brainstorm says is overlaid with so much tension for the reader bc of what we know now about him
like brainstorm saying ‘yes - here’s to fixing things’ is so fucking sinister even though out of context that sentence is just normal
and when atomizer basically voices what the entire audience is thinking as brainstorm opens the briefcase - ‘brainstorm, you can’t do that.’ bc yeah, what the hell, he’s opening THE briefcase, Oh Shit
AND THEN THE FINAL SHOT....brainstorm front and center looking SCARY AS HELL.... ‘I can do whatever the hell I like.’....everyone suddenly collapsed around him...the fantastic shadowy lighting...the ominously open briefcase...the clear segue Directly into the next high-concept arc....[chefs kiss] ART
seriously I love this issue so much. SO many good things. such good character stuff, really great interactions, some fantastic plot development, super creative sci-fi fun times...all around just an extremely solid and enjoyable issue, 10 outta 10
and MAN OH MAN I cannot wait to get into the elegant chaos arc, it fucking SLAPS, that arc and remain in light have always been my favs, I'm so excited to revisit it
AND ruth bought the physical comic TPB for like issues 34-38 or something and I'm so so glad I can read that instead of braving the many split-up double page spreads on the online comic

qcyn ep 10 aka an episode that really made me happy!! but also really made me miss season 1..........

lol this earth ad is even more cringey.................. the ending credits.... i see lin yuzhi! and xixi got a cool shot :D im surprised lin mo didnt get any shots haha and that they didnt show mr tyger at all during the hugging portion at the end but oh well i guess.....
tbh this was a minimal lin mo exposure ep but its ok, im still grateful that he got a few random closeups (which is more than i can say for some of the others) and now that hes safely in top 20 i honestly think my work here is done LOL. there’s not much more lin mo fans can do for him. theyve gotten him onto all the stages and i dont think any amount of work will get him into top 9... and ive said before i dont even really want him in top 9 bc id rather he stay with mr tyger and help them stay relevant bc theyll need his help to do so, especially since jia yi will probably make top 9.
(from here is where i go into a rant about season 1 vs season 2.... LOL)
lets be honest, ranking 16 is too low for lin mo to make it lol....... last season the only kid who made top 9 who wasnt already in top 9 by ep 10 was yanjun... and yanjun had been on a steep upward trend leading up to the last ep (lin mo went from 17 to 16... theres minimal momentum there lol) and then bi wenjun going from 12 to 10 was the other surprise. xikan going from 18 to 13 was impressive, but he still wasnt one of the contenders for the 9th spot. i think at the end it was bu fan, qian zhenghao, bi wenjun and you zhangjing right? out of those 4, the lowest ranked in ep 10 was bi wenjun at 12..... so going from 16 up to 9 would be really really unlikely, unless lin mo somehow makes an even greater impression on the audience during the mentor collab stage than yanjun did last year.... which i think will be impossible bc literally the entire audience fell in love with yanjun during the “zero” performance in last season’s ep 11 lol it was crazyyyy.... but anyway i think ive reminisced about last season enough this rant.... can you tell i really miss it? honestly ive tried to stay as positive as i could throughout watching qcyn and i gave iqiyi the benefit of the doubt from the beginning that “oh maybe it just doesnt seem as great as the first season bc we havent gotten to know the kids yet, the show’s just started, we’ll learn to love it later” ---- but we’re on ep 10 now and i just.......... i still dont think i got to know the kids as well as i did last season and its not their fault, theyre not any less lovable kids (some of them i really like!!! more than some of the kids from last season!) but this season’s editing is really just disappointing. i really miss last season and it was honestly so much more enjoyable to watch..... i thought about this the other day, if lin mo had been eliminated during the last round, would i still be watching this show? and i thought about it and i honestly think i would... because i really like some of the other kids like mingming, junjie, xixi, jia yi, guan yue, chen sijian, etc. but i really dont think id be as eager to stay up to date with it. ive fallen behind on yaa and dont even look forward to watching fanafan anymore bc lin mo hasnt been on any of those (no, i dont count the yaa ep he literally only got 1 second of screentime in) these side shows are fun, but not as fun as fanafan from last season. they feature the same kids over and over again (literally yuehua trio was the ONLY kids on fanafan 2 weeks ago and then they were 1/3 of the ep last week too??? and hmm how come there are kids who have been on yaa multiple times yet there are also kids who have never been on it at all???? that’s just so unfair.....) without fanafan from last season, would you zhangjing have made it into top 9?? fanafan was the medium thru which he really showed us how hilarious and fun and lovable and sweet and sassy he was (whereas on the actual show he showed us his true, undeniable talent) and im just here wondering, if qcyn’s fanafan had featured ye ziming half as much as they had featured you zhangjing or his partner in crime yanjun (who both ended up making top 9), would he have at least made top 35? or how about chen sijian and wu zelin? or feng junjie?? or su yuhang?? where would they be now? why hasnt lin mo been on fanafan at all??? if given the chance, would people actually be appreciating zhan yu’s hilariously weird and crazy personality that we NEVER got to see?? sigh..........

ok i know this is a stretch but i think maisie’s comment about arya’s sexuality is actually further proof we’re getting gendrya this coming season in one form or another b/c maisie & sophie do like to troll fans in order to mislead them about what’s going to happen so even mentioning arya’s sexuality at all while trolling (if that’s what it was) means it’s going to come up during the season at some point, which could only mean gendrya, right?! right??? 💖
……..possibly lmao. i’d love to enthusiastically agree but i have to remain cautious about this. theres really no point in reading into maisie’s statement all that much anyway. she could be trolling. she could have a pov that doesnt match up with the writing in its entirety. she could be accurately assessing it. we dont know
maisie’s comment annoyed me but i dont think this is a death sentence for arya/gendry. they’re gonna have scenes together in s8. are they gonna have a sex scene? no. are they gonna kiss? also no. but a few years ago i never thought they’d even be reunited. and personally, i dont need to see a ship have sex or even kiss to consider it canon. i dont even expect that from arya/gendry in the books either btw. (ive always believed we’d get appendix confirmation or smth to that effect) so i cant exactly get mad at the show for not going there. they havent done this relationship (or any) justice but arya and gendry still have a solid friendship. they protect each other. they care about each other. they wanted to be each others family.
so if they have interactions in s8 that reflect a mutually caring relationship i’ll be good. and if they merely hint that they could be more post series i’ll be ecstatic. give me a wink in the finale and i’ll never say shit about this stupid fucking show ever again.
we have less than 30 days left. we really have to just wait and see what happens. it’ll probably be a trainwreck but maybe we’ll be able to salvage our ship lol. and ultimately? we will always have the books. asoiaf might never be finished but we have a beautiful relationship between arya and gendry there. one ive thoroughly enjoyed. nothing the show does will ever take that away.

Top ten KH3 moments?
***SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD! SPOILERS AHEAD! DON’T READ UNLESS YOU’VE EXPERIENCED THE WHOLE GAME OR YOU DON’T GIVE A DANG ABOUT SPOILERS!***
Confession: in trying to come up with my answer for this post, I came up with THIRTY. I’ll just put the ten here, but if anyone wants to ask about those other twenty, feel free :-D
10. The reveal of who Luxu really was the whole time. It tied together a lot of things that made sense and it set up EXACTLY THE CHARACTER IT NEEDED TO to take up the villain helm in place of Xehanort. I’m actually going to skirt saying this name, even though I warned for spoilers, because this reveal is just SO good. And a lot of the endgame made me feel sour and numb due to THE HORRIBLY TRAUMATIZING DEATH OF KAIRI, but this scene picked me almost all the way back up to normal again.
9. When Xemnas assembles Demyx, Larxene, Marluxia, and Luxord at the Keyblade Graveyard and it’s NONSTOP BANTER. Larxene firing off the most hilarious insults at Demyx (a CEREAL BOWL), Demyx openly admitting that he’s not imposing on purpose, Larxene trying to get Marluxia to start another coup, Luxord listening in the whole time and not letting on until his name is called, Luxord fiddling with the cards and making gambling metaphors, Demyx playing his sitar the whole time…and let us not forget the line that embodies a Big Mood: “Ugh. Xemnas.”
8. When Sora reunited with Hades. It was less “MY MORTAL NEMESIS WHO MUST BE STOPPED” and more “Oh, my weird friend of opposing morality who I don’t really like but have to say hi to.” Their reactions to each other were so hilariously casual. Then Hades introduced the Titans in the most EPIC way…only to realize he sent Sora EXACTLY WHERE HE SHOULDN’T GO and deciding this was fine. Also, bonus points for Sora later calling him “the H-ster.”
7. When the Demon Tornado (my personal name for the GIANT CYCLONE OF SHADOW HEARTLESS; canon will probably prove this wrong later) is about to wipe out everyone, but Ephemer helps Sora summon ALL THE KEYBLADES OF THE DEAD WIELDERS OF THE KEYBLADE WAR IN ORDER TO PULVERIZE IT. There’s so much going on there: the epicness of using a hundred Keyblades at once, the beautifully victorious arrangement of “Dearly Beloved,” the shout-outs to the player names in the commands, and, perhaps most of all, the realization after the fact that these blades were all of people who died killing each other for petty reasons…and after death, their spirits realized it was time to set aside their differences and focus on not letting Xehanort win.
6. Battling Davy Jones and the Kraken at the same time. The Kraken is one of the two Disney boss battle fights I have wanted for a DECADE (the other was Randall Boggs; you had your chance and you BLEW IT). I actually was half-disappointed with the naval battle portion because I had imagined it should be melee, but then Davy Jones turned out to be the first true Disney villain boss fight that wasn’t transformed into a Heartless or somesuch, and I’d been thirsty for content of him since arriving in that world. But then it turned out THE KRAKEN WAS WAITING IN THE WINGS TO ASSIST HIM and I actually DID get to fight it melee and it was just the PERFECT way to close out PotC’s role in KH.
5. Fighting Ansem, Seeker of Darkness; Xemnas; and Young Xehanort at the same time. First of all, BEST BOSS THEME IN THE ENTIRE GAME. It was the perfect culmination of putting all the Xehanort themes into one piece that flowed and made sense. Second, the sheer epicness of this CONCEPT. Third, the coordinated triple attack they make where Young Xehanort freezes Sora, Xemnas shoots him with the vines, and Ansem lets the lasers fly.
4. Even and Demyx’s one interaction. While I still don’t think Vexen/Even is hero material, the one thing that made that redemption worth it was this. Seeing these two diametrically opposing personalities, who you think would hate each other, play off each other perfectly. They’re just the right amount of annoyed with each other to be hilarious, and then there’s obviously some genuine respect passed between this odd couple. I will never be over how they have to shush each other in succession.
3. Ienzo’s intro to the plot, though this is kind of in two parts - I’m counting his initial reveal as Sora’s guide with his almost immediate return to help with tech stuff when Pence logs into the computer. Ienzo is just such a CINNAMON ROLL. He just wants friends now, he’s a total ambivert, he keeps slipping into jargon before realizing he’s the only one in the room who knows what he’s saying and reverting to layperson’s terms without being condescending, he flinches at sudden loud noises, he has a cute smile and a nervous laugh…oh. Oh, no. JCMorrigan has a crush.
2. When Vanitas is on the cusp of wrecking Sora on the Laughfloor…and Sulley intervenes by picking him up and YEETING HIM into a door. Oh, but not just that. Taking that door and THROWING IT INTO ANOTHER DOOR, THEN INTO ANOTHER DOOR, THEN INTO ANOTHER DOOR AND SHREDDING THAT ONE. I could NOT stop howling with laughter through this whole sequence. And about four hours later, it hit me that Vanitas could just Corridor out of wherever he got thrown, so Sulley basically did all that for nothing, AND NOW IT’S EVEN MORE HILARIOUS. BONUS POINTS STILL IF YOU THINK ABOUT THE KIDS’ ROOMS WHO EITHER HAD A DOOR FLUNG INTO THEM OR VANITAS HIMSELF. Also, can we appreciate how Sulley somehow knew after five minutes that Vanitas was THAT much worse than Randall that he’d need this treatment?
1. Randall Boggs hijacking the Monsters, Inc. factory. Randall is a legacy favorite villain of mine. He was a big part of my late childhood/young adolescence, and I was CRAZY over him. Over time, I’ve found he still holds up. I could gush about how KHIII’s additions to his entire characterization pretty much renewed my love for him afresh, but let’s focus on his finest hour. Normally, the designated villain of a KH world just peaces out and waits for you to find them at the boss location. Randall, instead, turns the entire factory into death traps and TAUNTS HIS QUARRY OVER THE PA SYSTEM GLADOS-STYLE. Not only that, but he makes TERRIBLE puns (”This one’s got some spark in him!” during the electric fence, “I’ve decided to ramp up the difficulty” as Sora climbs an upward-headed conveyor) and he easily slides from Large and in Charge (”Enjoy what’s left of your miserable little lives!”) to realizing he’s getting humiliated and trying to cover (”You get one freebie, but that’s it.”). KHIII did Randall so good I can’t even.
