This will be a long post, as a heads up.
@winterpower98 Since you said you were interested in hearing this. 😁 Also, a fair bit of this is geared towards the Cursed AU and the Flower Fruit Kings/Shadowpeach Family in particular.
This train of thought got started with a song called 'Bridge of Light'. The original is by Pink and was in the movie 'Happy Feet Two', but the version I was listening to was a vocal rendition by a theater group. The song is about even when you lose everything, as long as you have love, you have light which will be your bridge in tough times. Beautiful song. Highly recommend listening to it.
Also, I think about the symbolism surrounding the Sun and the Moon a lot due to a story I am creating and as such, my brain asked the question: "What is a Bridge of Light? Can it be connected to symbolism surrounding the cosmos?" And the answer hit me over the back of my head. Then I decided to see if this Bridge of Light could be applied to Monkey Kid.
Let's go through the family to see, shall we?
Macaque - He is the Moon. Once again, simple and understandable.
Sun Wukong - He is the Sun. Pretty simple and with no need to explain.
MK - Okay, hear me out on this one. When it comes to being the Monkie Kid, the Monkey King's successor, he is a Star. But! When it comes to being MK, the son of Wukong and Macaque, he isn't a star. He is the Sunset. Guardian of the Sun. Why? Well..
Mei - She is the Sunrise. Defender of the Moon. When it comes to the Sunset and Sunrise, I like to think of a sword and shield.
The Sun comes out to rule over the day and reaches the peak of power around midday before it begins to dwindle in it's power. At the end of the day, it has weakened significantly and needs time to regenerate its energy, but it also at risk of being overpowered by the Moon.
So why is MK the Sunset and Mei the Sunrise? Well, outside of the colors they tend to wear, they each have a close bond to one particular monkie dad a bit more than with the other. Mei was Macaque's daughter before becoming Wukong's and MK was Wukong's son before becoming Macaque's. They are the protectors of that Celestial body in a metaphorical sense.
The sun and moon balance each other in the cosmos, the Yin and Yang. They aren't allowed to overpower the other. As such, a guard/champion is each placed at the times of day where it is possible for one to be overpowered.
The Sunset protects the weakened Sun and makes way for the Moon, who is at full strength to come rule the night. The Sunrise does the same but opposite - protecting the weakened Moon and making way for the rise of the rejuvenated Sun.
So. Moving on to:
Cherry - Ri Shi. The Solar Eclipse. When the Moon covers the light of the Sun and all we can see in the sky is a ring of flames. She is quiet, but fiesty and dramatic (theatrical?) much like a Solar Eclipse. We know it is happening when it happens. It is hard to miss. And like how the Sun is covered up by the Moon, she hides her weaknesses and fear behind her anger and distrust/paranoia.
Apple - Yue Shi. The Lunar Eclipse. When the Earth blocks the Sun from the Moon. He is the one who usually speaks. Where Cherry only speaks every so often/rarely (like a Solar Eclipse), Apple will speak up often and with confidence in the same way the Moon is a constant. He is okay being in the background and less obvious akin to the Lunar Eclipse.
Nezha - He is a rainbow. Just as he has been adopted by only Wukong, a true natural born in the wild rainbow only shows during the day. While I don't know much about him from the show yet, (as I haven't seen S3 yet), I have a hunch he will be dramatic/eccentric and a somewhat colorful person and if that doesn't sound like a rainbow, I don't what does.
Yin and Jin - Here we have finally come to the Stars of the family. They have only been taken in by Macaque, just as the Stars are only really seen at night. Afar, they are but twinkling and dancing lights. Up close, they are completely different. The Chaos Twins are the same way-powerful in their own right, but prefer to be himbos himbros. Plus, the stars (for me at least) with twinkle between a golden color to a more blueish silver color.
And finally:
Zan - She is the one who answers the question I posed above. The Bridge of Light. The Aurora Borealis. Strategically chaotic, bright and beautiful to see in the night sky. The Bridge between the Sun and Moon. Zan has quite literally done this on many levels when it comes to Macaque and Wukong.
She was there when Wukong and Macaque finally talked and began officially courting due to Mac 'kidnapping' her to lure Wukong out since the king is impossible to kidnap as is common in the Demon Courting Customs. (If I remember correctly at least). She was the Bridge for them to be able to reach each other and become a couple.
Zan has also helped the Eclipse Twins integrate into the family. Inviting them to come do stuff or hang out, getting them used to being around other monkeys and around the dads. She likely was involved with the twins being able to befriend Bai He. She gave them love and comfort at times and in ways that others couldn't reach. She was the bridge to unite them with the family.
Zan is also the bridge in another BIG way. And it is due to being the reincarnation of the beloved Marshal Ma. Ma in the past brought the group together which lead to Ba and Beng getting married, Macaque finding a home, a family and eventually a mate. The one who advised Wukong in his duties as a king and did all she could to love and support her found family.
In recent times? Because of the situation surrounding her birth and being orphaned, she was brought into Wukong and Macaque's lives. She becomes close with Macaque in particular and has worked to help him in all she can. Zan being close allows the two ancient monkies to learn of her connection to Ma. This leads to the reunion of the original group, the Flower Fruit Monkies with Ma there in spirit. A family torn apart and reunited. This also leads to a reunion for the BlueHollys family.
Zan is the past and the present coming together in unison which will spear head the future. The uniting of the Old Flower Fruit group and the New Flower Fruit group. She is friends with all of them, (as I suspect she will worm her way into Nehza's heart as well).
Without her, Wukong and Macaque wouldn't have gone to see the generals. Ba and Beng would have likely never been reunited with their daughter while Bai He would have no sense of where she belongs. The Eclipse Twins would have had a EXTREMELY harder time connecting with their new family.
Zan is a bridge made with orderly chaos, love and light.
She is the Aurora Borealis.

alright, time for me to say a couple of thoughts i had with the ffm monkeys.
- i like to believe that langur and horse had any type of clothes with them, and once wukong tried a small dress on him.
He liked it, but he remembered Ba saying stuff about love and how she wants to impress Beng.
so he went down all the way to Ba to give her the dress, so she could look more pretty and impress Beng!
Wukong and Ba worked in secret so Ba could go to Beng with eyeliner and a dress to go in a little playdate.
- wukong never spoke Chinese nor did he ever saw the reason to when he learned it, simply because everyone spoke monkey language, so using Chinese was kind of useless.
but he always listened to when people start talking Chinese, and finally he understood!
He never told anyone that he knew Chinese so he could play the clueless kid and get to know everything.
But that finally blew up and people understood he knew Chinese when he started rambling angrily in that language so most monkeys wouldn't understand he was upset.
- wukong probably looked like the most charismatic, cheerful and positive person, but when he wakes up he's like that one grumpy cat.
I do imagine him not being a morning person and he absolutely hates waking up.
From :) to >:( in a minute.
So whenever the monkeys napped together wukong not only was always the last one to wake up but he always stayed away from people for a couple minutes because he had to charge his social battery each time.
- i did say once that wukong had some difficulty in both talking and moving because he was born as a child so he didn't learned how to speak or walk before. Because he was born as a literal 7 year old.
So even though he was the most social, talkative and energetic of the group, there were times where he had to ask for help to get a word or two. Or he would fall, many, many times. Got over it overtime, but he was and still is a clumsy guy.
- literally Ma and Macaque had to explain to wukong how Ba and Beng liked each other romantically, my man thought they were best friends with privilege.
- wukong sometimes can't get people tones, so I can imagine once or twice him misunderstanding sarcasm and seriousness. He cried once because he couldn't get the joke and he felt stupid after.
- somehow he always gets when a demon is dangerous, he will literally keep his smiley face and keep talking normally but he would push back slowly his friends so he's on the front, so if someone has to get hurt, it's him.
- i imagine him being very, very fluffy. Not like macaque who gets fluffy when it's winter, no wukong is like those cats who are more fluffy than anything.
and the best part is that everyone always thought that wukong was somewhat chubby or even straight up fat, but whenever you hugged him you could tell he was skinny or even jacked at one point.
He always tricks people with this and he finds it hilarious.
- whenever him and the generals had a meeting where they had to decide something, wukong was always sitting somewhere playing with his fingers. Nobody expect him to listen and no one ever bothered him to make him listen.
- wukong literally does not understand neither sex or romance but by god he always makes sex jokes and where he gets them it's incredible and unknown.
- since wukong is older than all of his generals, i imagine them kind of growing up looking at this weird monkey who somehow is friend with literally anyone. (Besides macaque, he came in later)
- i just realized that in all of this wukong is literally the only one in the group who knows how to read and write. And he is the one called illiterate.
- Beng and wukong have a bro code and macaque is part of Ba and Ma girl code.
- wukong gives the :3 face when he gets complimented, especially if it's from one of his generals.
Wukong: :3
Beng: :)
Ba: <:)
Ma: >:D
Macaque: <:]??
- i can only imagine the faces of the generals when wukong swore once.
They were like 10 years old, and wukong comes up with "what the fuck is that", and everyone shocked because that's a no-no word. but wukong dosen't know that because he grew up with horse.
- even better when wukong swore for the first time in Chinese.
- the generals knew that wukong always wore make-up, but the only one who didn't was macaque. he kind of met wukong with long eyelashes so he thought he was born with that.
Turns out he wasn't born with that and macaque had nightmares for a week.
- Beng and Wukong just hug each other a lot they are bros.
- wukong is also the guy who always prepares the best playdates and does a high five to Beng each time during the playdate when Ba isn't looking.
- when someone talks about both monkey and demon culture, wukong is always, always, silent. Because he doesn't know anything about it.
He's more familiar with humans.
- macaque is terrified of animals and then there's wukong who is hugging a bear.
- wukong treated all of his generals as siblings. Never like friends, no, like siblings. Just like he treats the baby monkeys as his kids and does call them his kids, he treats his generals like siblings.
It dosen't matter if they do the same or not, he'll always treat them like siblings.
- i like to think that wukong dosen't regret killing macaque, he surely regrets making possible for that fight to happen and to lead macaque to death, but he doesn't regret killing him because in his eyes it was fair.
he tried to hurt his master and brothers. He never wanted to, nor he wished for Macaque to die, but for wukong it was a sacrifice he had to make, accepted it and didn't regret it.
he moved on and just wishes macaque could do the same instead of hurting his successor.
- wukong groomed his friends without thinking really, he was always on top of his friends and groomed them like a daily routine.
just like when you hold hands with your partner or do something that it's an habit now.
His habit is to groom his friends, and now he does it to MK.
- macaque would always hate sounds in generals because of his ears, but he had to deal with Beng being loud and wukong, that even if he spoke more quietly, always hummed or made sounds.
At one point macaque just started to tolerate the sounds to the point he liked them and became proud of his six ears.
- wukong normally hugs people when he naps with them, but whenever he wakes up he suddenly rolls away because the grumpiness he gets when he wakes up made him hate both social interactions and physical contact.
Once he woke up with macaque hugging him and he looked at Mac said "do i look like a pillow to you" without his usual high pitched tone, and you know macaque just ran away because who tf is that that is NOT monkey king.
We are all sharing our little thoughts so i might as well do it with my favorite monkey and his generals
- funny stone monkeys headcanon anon 🐵
Wukong practiced his makeup on Ba and it always worked in the gibbon's favor
Wukong is absolutely not a morning person, and would rather nap the entire afternoon than wake up
The funny thing is that he called himself and Macaque "friends with privilege" too because he didn't understand what that meant
Ah, self sacrifiing Wukong since the age of baby
Horse introduced him to swearing and when the others found out they demanded that the immortal taught them too
Beng and Wukong are the most physical ones of the group, followed by Ma but she's calmer and collected with it
Wukong one time gave Macaque a frog as a gift and he was terrified it was going to poison him

Beng:
Ba: okay we really should reconsider the therapist thing.
This man will casually say how he fought gods and demons alike and then will talk about the last movie he watched like it's nothing

Two dads talking about their kids
This is, surprisingly, from an RP I'm doing with @elianaroselight. There are many moments that I want to edit and make into little one shots, because I really liked how some dialogues and interactions came out, but for now you get this very simple one.
---
Kai diverted his attention from the flute Beng was carving back to his parents, and he run happily to them when he saw that his mama was back. Ri Shi hugged her baby close "Hello, Pumpkin pie. Having fun with uncle Beng?" "Yes! The flute is almost ready!" Beng chuckled from his spot "Not almost kid. It won't be ready before after lunch" "That's okay!" Kai nodded and grinned brightly. "Do you want to keep watching as your uncle work or do you want to do something else in the meantime, Muffin?" Ri Shi patted the kid's head gently, watching as he purred happily in her hold. He took a moment to think before answering her "I wanna be with mama." The solar monkey laughed softly as he snuggles closer "Alright Kai. Do you want to do some yoga then?" "What's yoga?" "It's when I do those weird poses in the sun that you sometimes copy" "Oh! Yeah, okay!" He cheers and grins, causing his mother to laugh. The monkey gets up from her place next to Ju Jing and walks to the nearest spot that has a bit of sunlight. Kai eagerly walks up to her and she moves him around so that he's posing the same way she is "Try to copy me, alright Kai?" Kai nodded excitedly as he got ready to copy his mama. Ri Shi moves slowly, giving the little demon the time to imitate what she was doing. When he posed as close as possible he beamed with his tail wagging fast and the monkey couldn't help the little giggle that escaped her. Ju Jing grins as he watches happily next to Beng. After a bit, he turns to the gibbon "Would Bai He ever do this with Ba as a child?" "Sort of, Bai He mostly waddled around her mother when she was doing yoga or tai chi. Every pose her mother got in was an excuse to climb on her and look around" the old demon said with a soft smile, remembering every time he went to check on his daughter only to find her looking at her mom upside down. Ju Jing chuckles "Adorable. Would she do something similar to you?" "The climbing? Oh yes, every baby monkeys does that to be fair" Beng paused in his work to look at the oni in confusion "Did Kai Hu never do that with you?" "Not to the same extent. Not with me at least. He would ask to be picked up. I think he was scared to climb that high. But the rest of the family wouldn't get a break. Most of the time he would cling to them" The gibbon chuckled softly as he started to work on the wood again "Oh, that makes sense. He does look like a cuddly kid" "He definitely is. He is very much a family kind of kid." "That's good..." the old general speaks in a softer tone "It's nice to see that your tragedy didn't stop Kai to enjoy his life. And you too" "Thank you. Honestly, I have Ri Shi to thank for that... She has helped me through some of the darkest days and nights in my life. She helped me love again. She may not have the most natural of parental instincts, but she slipped into it much easier than she ever believes." "I'm sure you know this already, but she was very worried at first. More for Kai's sake than for herself. She ended up talking a lot with Ba and Mami, looking for advice and comfort." Beng patted Ju Jing's shoulder, giving him a sincere smile "She did a lot for you, but you also did a lot for her" The oni nodded slightly and smiled. "I didn't know her before, but I have certainly seen much growth in her since she came into my life." He says softly as he watches his wife and son. "I'm thankful she has had Mami and your wife to help her figure out motherhood... Was it as hard for Ba as it was for Ri Shi?" The gibbon took a moment to answer him "I'm afraid it was slightly harder for Ba. While she didn't plan to be a mother much like Ri Shi, she didn't have anyone to rely on outside of me. And for as many books on parenthood I read, there were still a lot of things I didn't know" Ju Jing hummed, understanding how hard it had to be for the gibbon couple "It's always scary when you start, isn't it? I was a nervous wreck for weeks after Kai was born. It wasn't good... The fact that our wives had rough times at slipping into motherhood and for the worries and fears we all had, we lucked out in having the sweetest and most forgiving kids out there, didn't we? " "Yes, we did... But I like to think it's not for luck, but because of her mother that Bai He is the way she is. Maybe it could be the same for Kai with both Ju Ling and Ri Shi?" "Because Ba needed someone as sweet as Bai He as her child? To help her with entering into motherhood?" "That too, yes. But also because, despite her fears and worries, Ba put her whole self into being the best mother she could be. I don't know what your late mate was like, but by looking at Kai I can tell she must have been pretty much the same" Ju Jing chuckles "To the point where I would have to ask Kai to help me get Ju Ling to rest, nap, or just relax in general. A busy body that adored Kai and being a mother..." Beng gave him a gentle smile, clearly understanding what the oni was feeling "She did a wonderful job with Kai, Ju Jing. You both have. And I think Ri Shi is learning to do the same" As he said that he turned around to look at the mother and son. The solar monkey was standing on all four with one leg up and Kai did his best to imitate her until he lost his balance and fell to the ground Ri Shi giggled softly as she sat down on the grass to help the kid up "Good job, cupcake. Wanna try it again?" The little kid nodded, showing his mom he was determined. The monkey laughed softly at his display before giving him a small kiss on the head and helping him get into position again Ju Jing chuckled. "I think he will remain sweet." He said amused to Beng.

Ba: Did anybody get hurt?
Wukong: Mentally or emotionally?
Ba: ???
Wukong: ... Okay I may have beat Macaque into a pulp but it's fine
Beng: So your relationship was just abusive from the get go?
The more Ba learns about what happened while she and her husband were away, the more she debates if it was a good thing that they were not there or not

Hey, I got a question and this is for Beng ok so how did Beng get a colony?? did he jumakesake his Colony with his wife, and if they did, are they ruling it with an Iron Hand????
The colony Beng and Ba watched over is just made up of the monkeys that left the mountain along with them when Wukong came back from his journey.
And no, they aren't ruling it with an iron hand. Most of the decisions in the colony are made when Beng, Ba and a few elder monkeys come to a conclusion together.
When the generals came back to Flower Fruit mountain their colony mixed back into Wukong's own, but most of the demons that came from Beng and Ba's colony still seek them out for help instead of the king

Buckle up, time for some BlueHollys angst!
Warnings: There are mentions of death, fire-related injuries, talk of depression, and self-destructive behavior
I don't think I ever mentioned it but Ba's fur was damaged by the fire.
It wasn't as bad as Macaque, but her coat got singed a bit, to the point of shortening her already short fur, and even missing completely in some parts. It regrew with the years but she refused to look in a mirror or any reflective surfaces until Beng could convince her once the fur grew back.
But the damage wasn't just to her fur, but her pride and self-worth too.
Beng made that easier for her by saying how much he liked her, both on a physical and emotional level, and how much he meant it each time. But the fire changed that for a long time. Her elder sister was slowly dying before her eyes. Her King was nowhere to be found. Her brother had been burnt alive and died at least 3 times, not including from all the times he was sick from the infections she had to help clean them daily. Her home was destroyed, burnt to the ground. Her people were dead, dying, sick, or starving from the lack of food and fresh water due to the fire killing many of the fruit trees and soiling the water.
And the worst part, the reason why her fur was burned in the first place, was because she tried to save Beng's father, Guangshu.
She wasn't quick enough to save him and blamed herself for it. It was one of the reasons why she worked so hard after the fire, to hide from the guilt. She barely slept because she had nightmares about it and even got ill from it. Beng begs her to rest and heal, saying something along the lines of "This experience has taken my father from us both. I worry you will work yourself to death over this and I can't lose you too. If you go... I would shortly follow because I would have no reason to continue living"
But she still takes care of everyone and everything, trying to take up most of the work so her dear husband can grieve over the loss of his father, whom he had been close to. She didn't give herself time to grieve and heal. She worked, even when sick or exhausted. She was becoming depressed but fought to stay above it fairly well. When they lost Bai He it was the final straw for her. At that moment, all her depression and grief from the last thousand years or so came crashing down on her. She felt she had nothing good left, except for Beng.
And her behavior after Guangshu's death does mirror the way Beng reacted to Ba He's disappearance almost perfectly.
She was the one suffering during the fire but she pushed through even in sickness and Beng did his best to be her support.
When their child disappeared, Beng looked for her nonstop to the point of becoming ill and Ba had to stop him and support him
The number of times they each had to remind/beg for the other to rest or eat when in their supportive roles had been crazy. Ba overworked herself while sick. She was injured and burned, malnourished and dehydrated, exhausted, depressed, and grieving. Add in being sick and she continued to work meant she could easily get sicker. She made sure those who were young or pregnant received the most care and food that they could spare.
She shouldered most of the responsibilities, even when Beng wanted to help her. She never got to grieve for her parents and siblings, after all, but she wanted her husband to be allowed to grieve his father.
Beng was grateful but he felt guilty for a long time over it. He wished she would have stopped to take care of herself too. Even if he grieved for a single day with his mother, Ba insisted on taking the lead on everything that had to do with the recovery of the mountain. Even spent countless nights awake making up strategies and methods to prevent such a large fire to happen again.
If not for Beng and her Pópo (mother-in-law) Meirong, she probably would have worked herself to the brink of death multiple times. Not that she didn't try. Not intentionally at least.
When Bai He disappeared Ba was terrified. Beng had made it so easy to love and be loved. It was easier to shove away the fears surrounding motherhood because Beng believed in her. To lose what she fought so hard for, gave up so much for, cried over, and spent many sleepless nights over, that which was born from the union between Ba and Beng on both a physical and emotional level... It felt as if joy and life itself had been ripped away.
Ba was feeling so stressed and overwhelmed by emotions when Beng found their daughter's comb that it made her pass out, and she was out for the rest of the night. She awakened in bed and looked to her side to see her husband sitting there. Turns out, after catching her and putting her to bed, he was up all night, crying and watching over his wife. He wasn't going to lose her too because he wasn't protecting her well enough. His tears had stopped by the time Ba woke up and when she started to apologize, he just gave her a wobbly soft smile.
He refused to sleep for days and ended up becoming quite sick from the strain that put on himself. While he never was upset about Ba's outbursts or blamed her, he had already been thinking similar things about not protecting his daughter. The stress of it nearly killed him.
Ma had joked once saying that Ba was the one to attack and Beng the one who protected, but now more than ever the only thing Beng could do was protect Ba. And even when he was sick he was strongly against his wife going out of the house, even if it was to look for their lost kid. And part of what made his illness worst was the fact that while sick, he still tried to protect his wife. He would force himself out of bed to search for his wife and make sure she was safe. He did not want to lose her too. Meanwhile, Ba was stuck. She so desperately wanted to search for their kid but she was also terrified of not being by her husband's side. Not for fear of him not protecting her, but she didn't want to lose him either. The last time someone she loved had been this sick, it was after another devastating incident and that loved one passed away, destroying her found family and leaving her with only her husband at her side.
Ba ended up staying by Beng's side constantly because the first time she left him while he was sleeping to go get some food, she came back to find him wandering outside of the house with a high fever. And that's also without considering the nightmares both of them had when they got some sleep. The monkeys and a few demons that were part of the colony did their best to help their leaders but they were also mourning the loss of Bai He, and their knowledge of medicine was much more limited than the one Ba and Beng had.
Meirong was the only one who truly helped her daughter-in-law as she helped her to care for her son. The older gibbon had to console the poor strategist many times at night when the stress of it all was too much for Ba and she found her crying by her husband's side.

Okay, Mentor Swap AU.
You just stated Ba had bad experiences with humans and I can imagine what kind.
I believe I remember you saying that Beng is a human and assuming BlueHollyship is a part of this AU...
Beng has a fair bit of work to gain her trust let alone her love.
Yes, Beng is a human in this AU and BlueHollys will happen of course.
Beng does in fact have a lot to demonstrate to Ba but he'll manage with time. Even if their relationship doesn't start in the best way (specifically, with Ba gut-punching him) Beng never really gives the gibbon demon a reason to truly hate him.
Even before Ba explains why she doesn't like humans, Beng doesn't disregard her hatred and fear and is instead very understanding and never once tries to convince her that she's wrong
