Face it Chapter 6
Chapter 6
“We’re home!” Peach announced as she opened her castle door. Behind her Mario and Several Toads carried bags. She was met with an empty foyer. “Oh?” She looked toward the kitchen a light was emanating from the bottom of the double doors. She smiled knowingly. She silently signaled to Mario and the Toads.
The double doors burst open. “SURPRISE!” All the mushroom courtiers, Luigi and Daisy cheered. They all stared in disbelief the one they had cheered at was a lone toad. He awkwardly waved to the crowed.
Suddenly Mario and Peach jumped from behind the wall. “BOO!” the crowd jumped and yelped in surprise. The loudest yelp came from Luigi, he clapped a hand over his mouth in embarrassment. Mario ran to hug his brother, and everyone had a good-natured laugh at the switcheroo the couple pulled on them.
“Welcome home bro!”
“I missed you!” Mario pulled back to get a good look at his little brother. He noticed some bruises around Luigi’s neck. His smile faltered.
Luigi caught the change. He shifted to throw his arm around his older brother’s shoulders. “Spieghero piu tardi... Now we eat!”
Mario nodded satisfied and turned his attention to the feast. “Oh! My favorite!” With hugs and welcomes exchanged, the crowd started to dish out the food. Mario and Peach regaled their audience with the tales of their travels. “So how was the Kingdom while we here gone?”
Luigi and Daisy looked at each other. Daisy started the tale. “Oh you know…..just a normal…..” She coolly looks at Peach. “That is until a starshroom crashes into your garden!”
“HUH!” both Mario and Peach exclaim.
“Yep, that’s right!” Daisy smirked at their reaction. “When you two love birds were off. Me and Luigi here,” she slung an arm over his shoulder. “Saved a princess!”
Daisy continued to tell their story with pauses and questions thrown in at the right moments to build the drama. “It was Tatanga!” Daisy slammed her hands on the table.
“Oh my,” Peach put her hand to her mouth.
“Yep, this time with a big ship and crew!”
She continued the story getting to the climax of the adventure. “…and I was so mad that I was being dumb.”
“Oh, don’t say that…” Luigi cut in, he touched her arm.
“No, it’s true. I made a ton of noise because I was soooo mad. If I hadn’t maybe Tatanga wouldn’t have caught you.”
“Tatanga caught Luigi!” Mario’s eyes got large as saucers. He looked at Luigi for confirmation. Luigi just nodded. Peach looked at Luigi’s neck with worry.
Daisy’s energy dipped. “Yes, He caught him…. by his neck and and….” She couldn’t continue.
“And Daisy ran to rescue me, but she got tripped and ambushed! She fought as much as she could but there were 4 aliens holding her down!” Luigi energetically finished for her. “Polari, Rosalina’s retainer, turned himself into a magic wand so Rosalina could save us.” Luigi shifted uncomfortable when he mentioned Polari. “Rosalina exiled all the aliens on a deserted planet. She then brought us and the ones we found in the lab back home.”
A silence filled the space as everyone absorbed the information.
“I feel so bad to what happened to Luigi.” Daisy addressed Mario. “I’m sorry I couldn’t keep your brother safe in that moment. But I promise I will protect him with my life next time.”
Mario took in her words with a serious expression. Suddenly he held out his pinky. Daisy’s eyes sparkled with recognition of the gesture. She hooked her pinky around his. “Pinky Promise.” They shook.
“Hey guys,” Luigi butted himself in between his brother and girlfriend. “I can look out for myself you know!” The little brother pouted.
Mario rolled his eyes and bopped the green hat so that the rim covered Luigi’s eyes. “Now you’ll just be extra safe.” The two chuckled.
“I’m glad it all ended well.” Peach breathed out.
“Yah! Sounds like a job well done!” Mario patted his brother on his back.
Peach stood up and stretched. She laid a hand on Mario’s shoulder. “I’m going to unpack. You going to help me, honey?” Mario’s eyes sparkled, he nodded to his new bride. Peach turned to the rest of the courtiers. “Thank you all again for putting together this party for us.” She beamed at everyone then turned to walk out. Mario gave Luigi a big hug again, then jumped down to follow his wife.

o, ikaw...

tila ba, ligayang hitik sa gaslaw
giliw kong tala, manatili ka lamang sa aking balintataw

The sky is so tragically beautiful
It is the graveyard of stars;
It doesn't hurt but it leaves the scars,
Not just on mind but the whole
human soul
Not just it control, but, the heart
that it stole.
Maybe that's what life has to give,
But this should not stop you to relive!
Cause without pain,
How would you know joy; It builds you up and just believe, that it does not destroy.
All you need to have is faith,
Cause once it was said that life
is 'fickle finger of fate',
Believe in yourself because you
yourself are your true mate.

[it’s a photo of Zee’s shiny cutiefly, Bituin. She’s sitting comfortably on a small rose gold silk pillow. There’s a scowl on her otherwise adorable, tiny face]
Good news, my darling skiddo kiddos! I’ve been informed little Bituin, who you may have seen attacking me once or twice on Tinkatock, has actually just been missing a few vitamins in her diet. She’s getting those now, and she’s doing much better! Significantly less hangry!
So here’s a fun, slightly morbid, fact I learned on this adventure! Cutiefly are herbivores and feed primarily on nectar and pollen in the wild, but they will opportunistically consume blood for the minerals, and if they’re deficient in said minerals they will actively seek it. Violently if necessary. Who would have thought today’s oddity would be about a tiny adorable fairy type like cutiefly?
Thank you @orionadventure for the diagnosis.

Face it Chapter 5
Chapter 5
TW: characters get harmed
The Alien spaceship was a large square, with red jets out the back and red blasters on the front. It was resting on the dock that was jutting out in front of the map screen. The purple aliens would enter and exit from a loading ramp that was down from the bottom of the ship on to the dock. The aliens didn’t seem hyper-vigilant. 15 of them mostly moseyed around the observatory, waiting on something to happen. The Trio of heroes snuck onto the ship. They had Little Bit peek around all the corners and be their lookout.
They found what seemed to be a lab. No one was in there. There were large tubes with different species seemingly frozen in them. Luigi looked at a tube that had a toad in it. He shivered and wondered why all his adventures ended up being in creepy places. Daisy got more and more distressed upon seeing some familiar things. A sea horse, a Moe-eye, a Lakitu’s Cloud.
“…This is how he did it…” She put her hand on a tube containing a lion like creature. Luigi came closer to her. “These are now extinct; they use to live in Birabuto.” She clenched her fists. “Until Tatanga came.” She punched the tube. “He abducted them!”  She punched the tube again. “HE Experimented on them!”
“D-daisy…” Luigi tried to shush her, but her rage had already started.
She grabbed random instruments and threw them on the floor. “HE used them to hold my empire hostage!”
“Daisy! Someone is going to hear.” Luigi started to panic. She continued to break things. “Daisy!” the door they had entered slid open. Luigi ran and grabbed Daisy to hide behind a tube.
“What’s going on here!?” a voice commanded. A purple alien who was larger than the rest stomped into the lab. He kicked some discarded tools. “WHO’S IN HERE!”
Luigi examined the bottom of the tube they hid behind. There were buttons, he pressed some at random. The liquid in the tube drained, and the tube lifted from its base. The lion in the tube jumped at Tatanga. Tatanga shielded himself with his left arm the lion bit down on it. The purple alien threw the lion up against the wall. This just made Daisy even more mad.
“STOP!” She stepped out from behind the tube. Luigi desperately tried to signal her back into hiding.
Tatanga unsheathed a blaster from his hip and blasted the Lion with electricity. “NO!” She ran up to the Alien and punched him as hard as she could in his gut. Tatanga flinched dropping the blaster. Daisy uppercut his chin. His teeth snapped shut. He backed up a little and rubbed his jaw. She used his backing up to stomp on his foot. In doing so she lifted her arms for balance. Tatanga grabbed her arms and pinned them down against her sides. He finally got a good look at who his assailant was. “Daisy?”
She kicked his shins. He dug his claws into her arms in pain. She grits her teeth. “What are you doing here? Are you following me?” he leered at her. She spit in his face. He just frowned at her. “Bo!”
Another alien came to the call, he was short and bulky. “Yes Sir.” He saluted.
“Bind her feet, arms and gag her.” Bo produced two metal stocks looking things and tried to clamp them down on Daisy’s feet. She kicked him in the head. The smaller alien rubbed his wound and grimaced up at her.
Just then a flurry of lumas attacked the two aliens. Tatanga let Daisy go to protect his face. She kicked him in the groin for good measure before running out of the Lab with the lumas.
She hoped that Luigi was behind them. She directed the lumas to the exit. They flew to Rosalina’s prison. Luigi hadn’t come out of the ship yet. Daisy glanced back, to her horror she saw Luigi dangling by his neck in Tatanga’s grasp. Daisy screamed and ran at Tatanga. She was tripped by Bo and landed on her face at Tatanga’s feet. Bo pounced on her and clamped the handcuffs on her wrists. She twisted to her side to get Bo off balance. The other alien crew members noticed the struggle and joined to restrain her.
Rage and pain burst from her body in the form of thrashing and screaming.
Tatanga looked down at her struggle. “You have turned into a wild thing, I wonder why?” He studied the mustached man that was prying at his neck, kicking weakly, and turning purple. “Who is this? Your mate?” He doubted she even heard him over her screaming to answer his questions. “Ah, doesn’t matter. He will be the one to pay for your intrusion.”  Luigi’s eyes started to roll back in his head.
A bubble enclosed Tatanga and lifted him into the air. To regain his balance Tatanga had to drop his prey. Luigi hit the metal floor with a sickening thud. The restraints on Daisy turned into bubbles. Daisy didn’t feel anyone holding her down anymore, she scrambled to Luigi. She tilted his head toward her. Luigi wasn’t breathing! She breathed into his mouth, inflating his lungs. He coughed and took a ragged breath. She turned him onto the side and rubbed his back to help him breath. Tears fell down her cheeks.
A shadow came over her. She looked up to see Rosalina floating with a wand and hand raised. Behind her was all the aliens encapsulated in bubbles. “Is he ok?” Daisy indicated he was. Rosalina solemnly turned and walk away. The bubbles with their prisoners followed after her. Daisy didn’t know what she was going to do with them. but with the serious air in which Rosalina walked convinced Daisy it would be a just punishment.
************
Rosalina returned moments later; Daisy hadn’t moved. “What did you do to them?” Daisy asked but kept her eyes on Luigi’s breathing.
“I exiled them to a faraway and bare planet.” Daisy nodded still not looking up at Rosalina. “Are you ok?” Rosalina noticed Daisy’s arms that dripped blood. Daisy didn’t respond. Rosalina sent a luma off to grab a first aid kit. She sat down next to the princess. Tears kept falling down Daisy’s face. She couldn’t hold it in anymore.
“I hate how Tatanga makes me feel!” Her voice cracked. Rosalina didn’t react just listened “I hate how powerless I feel! I gave it my all, and still he hardly flinched at my attacks! I have grown so much from when I first faced him, but I still couldn’t stop him!” Daisy took a shaky breath.
“You are not powerless.” Daisy finally looked up. Rosalina continued, “Sometimes our power comes from working with others.” Rosalina glanced down at the black wand in her hand. “Maybe you couldn’t stop him yourself, but with others help we did stop him.”
Daisy looked down at Luigi harshly breathing. “But if others help, they are in harms way…”
“I think he knows the risks. He tends to think of all the horrible scenarios.” Rosalina brushed a hair that was stuck to Luigi’s forehead. “But he will face anything for the ones he loves. You are his special one.”
Luigi turned to be on his back. He smiled up at Daisy through his wheezing. Trying to tell her Rosalina was right. Luigi reached up and brushed some tears off of Daisy’s cheeks.
The luma returned with bandages. Daisy sat still thinking as Rosalina bandaged her arms. Daisy knitted her eyebrows together in a guilty expression. Rosalina took notice. “Mistakes and accidents happen when we are in distress, they are there for us to learn. Next time I know you will be watching each other’s back more carefully.”
Daisy looked up at Rosalina with a determined glint in her eye.
************
The bright moon was rising from the sand of the desert kingdom of Birabuto. A red starshoom slowed its decent until it landed smoothly on the sand. The door slid down. A lion cautiously looked out at the vast desert. Having thoroughly scanned its surroundings the lion leaped out of the ship. It walked aways only to stop and look back at the occupants of the ship.  The two women that had saved him waved goodbye. He turned and continued his walk into the night. Happy to be free at last.
***********
Daisy snored softly with her head tilted back resting on the back the couch. Luigi’s head was resting on her lap. One of her hands on his chest feeling his breathing, the other entangled in his hair. Rosalina looked at the calming scene, taking note of the bandages on Daisy’s arms and the bruise that was forming around Luigi’s neck.
She looked down at the black magic wand in her hand. “Your sacrifice was worth it, Polari.” He couldn’t answer her, but she hoped he heard her. She let a single tear escape her eye.
“Mama, we are almost to the Mushroom Kingdom!” Bituin announced from the controls.
Rosalina wiped her tear away. “Prepare to land.” She moved to a window to see the upcoming castle. As they slowed and hovered close to the castle, Rosalina spotted a telescope on the roof. She smiled.

We all struggle with our insecurities. About our looks, our abilities, our decision making, and so on & so fourth, but in reality, we are our own harshest critics, constantly comparing ourselves to others, maybe looking over the strides we have already made.
People desire perfection, we wish we are thinner, we wish we are smarter, we wish we are rich, we wish we have this perfect little life, or maybe I wish. But then we realize isn't it a bit unfair to just wish for anything? why couldn't we put work on our wishes and change those wishes to goals.
Goals we can really achive. Wouldn't you feel proud of yourself if those wishes, are changed to goals which we achive by putting work in it? Maybe we won't feel insecure anymore. Maybe we would feel contentment and peace. Maybe we can stop judging and stop being judged by ignoring toxic feelings?
Maybe, just maybe.

ang bantay ko'y tala, ang tanod ko'y bituin
Summary: Miguel contemplates on the price he has to pay for his decision, and longs for a time free of complications.
Title and story inspired by this song.
**********
Miguel lay on the bed, willing for sleep to come to him. Yet his mind was still wired from his blistering conversation with the Manila police lieutenant and the Island detective. He had made it clear to them that he did not trust them for his own reasons.
He wished that he had a choice, one that did not involve stepping out of his hiding place and be killed before fulfilling what he had set himself to do.
He also wished that he was not stuck with a private detective who liked to appear as interesting as a piedra de China and a police lieutenant who hated his kind--and whose parentage he had suspected and tried to confirm since that fateful day in Cebu more than a decade ago.
Except he had been stuck between a rock and a hard place. He had to choose between two evils.
The silver lining in this ordeal, however, was that they had him sheltered in a room above a small restaurant. A migrant from Guangdong brought this quaint building once he had sufficient funds from hawking chicken mami in the streets. Despite the difference between their cultures--the owner from a Cantonese-speaking province and Miguel was mostly fluent in Hokkien--they had struck up a quick friendship. The owner had picked up on his distrust with authority and conversed with him after the Island detective and the police lieutenant had left earlier that night.
"You are not at ease, young man," the former teacher from Guangdong noted as they shared dinner. "You are suspicious of them." He meant both Jo Gar and Lieutenant Sadi Ratan.
Miguel nodded at him. "It is not that I am not grateful for their rescuing me from death. I am, but I suspect that my boss demanded them to find me and they would have me turned over to him. After my friend..." Miguel trailed, at loss for words as the pain of his friend's disappearance had stabbed him in the heart once more and how the police bungled up the investigation, causing his anger to flare in his heart once more. "My friend is lost, and I suspect it is because of my boss."
The owner had only nodded.
"Of course, you know of Lieutenant Ratan's reputation," Miguel pointed out. "He hates us. And I cannot trust Jo Gar despite his reputation."
"Oh dear, it is hard to decide what to do," the owner had only commented, his brows furrowing at the thought. "But what choice do you have, young man? If you want to find out who did it and keep your life with you, you have to deal with them regardless of what you feel, just as how they have to deal with you despite their opinions."
Miguel had nodded wearily. "It is never easy."
"Not easy, but who knows what the payback will be?"
"Goodness me, is this a quid pro quo?"
The owner shook his head. "Just being practical, young man."
The older of them had a point. It didn't matter what he or they felt with one another. And he had to do what needed to be done.
Yet it was not the only price he had to pay. He also had to pay the heavy price of leaving his family and friends behind.
Tears pricked behind his eyelids. It hurt his heart to stay away from his family and friends, but he had to. He could not risk them being caught in the whirling storm that the Thorntons were capable of. They could snap their fingers and--BAM! your life would be over. No, if any punishment would fall, it should fall on Miguel.
He sat up on the bed, let his tears fall. But he cried silently, not wanting anyone, not the owner, to see him crying. He did not want them to know the pain beating on him because he decided to do what was right.
He missed his home. He missed his family. He missed his friends. He missed the life he'd had before entering Thornton's real estate firm. He missed the life when Raul was still present in his life. Raul's absence had grown more pronounced as time went by, as opposed to what people blather about time healing all wounds.
(It was bullshit.)
And above all, he missed the carefree days when he could sleep knowing that he was secure, that he had nothing to worry about. That he was surrounded by his loving family and friends. And he missed his mother so much.
He thought about his mother, who would always sing him and his siblings to sleep. Her soft voice would waft within the room, a comfort when any of her children were upset or sick. She would sing songs in her native Cebuano, songs of love and assurances that everything would be alright, and some that would make them smile or laugh. Sometimes she would just hum the music of a song she'd known.
No wonder even his father would stop what he was doing and listen to her sing.
No wonder he fell in love with her back then and was still in love with her.
He wished that his mother would be by his side, let him cry on her shoulder to let out all the pain in his heart. She might not fully understand, but she would know when one of her own was suffering. He wanted to hear her sing her songs once more until he slept.
It's alright, anak, she would assure him if she were here with him, I am right here.
Tell us what is bothering you, anak. Let us help you.
I cannot, Ina. I cannot. But I will once it is all over.
He would have to face this alone. It was his price to pay, and it could cost his life.
But if he ever came out of the ordeal alive, he would make up to them for the rash decisions he had made, for the pain it had caused them. And maybe, just maybe, have a life that would let him be in peace in his waking hours, like how his mother's lullaby gave him peace in his sleep.
