All I want for Christmas: Part 6 – Autobianchi A112 Runabout, 1969, by Bertone. Designed by Marcello Gandini, a futuristic concept that took the transverse, front-drive mechanicals from the A112 (and it's close relative, the Fiat 128) and placed them amidships, driving the rear wheels. Though Bertone's concept remained a one-off it directly lead to the development of the Fiat X1/9. Meanwhile the are numerous diecast models of the Runabout available to fill stockings and toy garages

Autobianchi A112 Runabout, 1969, by Bertone. A concept which used the transverse drivetrain from the Fiat 128 (originally developed in the Autobianchi Primula) and placed it between the rear wheels. Designed by Marcello Gandini over the modified platform of an Autobianchi A112 it was first displayed at the 1969 Turin Motor Show. Though it remained a one-off the principle of moving a front transverse drivetrain to the rear wheels in order to create a mid-engined layout was developed for the Fiat X1/9 and subsequently adopted by a number of other manufacturers
