Penny is a genius.

Not a genius in all things, mind. Her strengths mostly lie in computers and strategy. But an idea starts bubbling in her mind on the flight to Kitakami, and by the time they've returned safely to Paldea she realizes exactly what she has to do, and exactly why it's the most brilliant plan anyone has ever thought of. That night, tucked into her desk chair and surrounded by her beloved veevees, Penny composes an email.

"Dad,

I want to tell you about my friend Arven."

It takes less than twelve hours for the cafeteria doors to be thrown open with such gusto that they slam back against the wall. Flatware clatters to the tables. Students drop their bowls in shock. A pawmi falls face first into a pot of soup. And Penny's father, Peony, stands proud in the doorway, scanning the stunned student body with a fierce look of concentration, while Penny's older sister Peonia hangs behind him with her head in her hands.

Seated in the back of the cafeteria with a bowl of half-soggy cereal, Penny draws her hood up over her head and pulls the strings tight.

"There he is!" Peony booms, and Penny peeks through the hole in her hood to see that he's pointing at Arven, whose mouth is still agape as his half eaten breakfast sandwich lies forgotten on his plate. A wide smile breaks over Peony's face as he strides across the cafeteria, all eyes following him as he makes his way across. "Ven, my boy! I've been lookin' all over for you!"

"Uh, what? Why? Who are you?" Arven starts to stand as if to run, but before he can Peony slings an arm around his shoulders so they can sit back down together.

"Name's Peony! My darling Pen-Pen told me all about you. And from what I hear, it sounds to me like you could use an ultra-mega-fun adven-tour extravaganza!"

"'Pen-Pen'? Wait, do you mean—?" Arven looks at Penny across the room, who begins hastily shoving soggy cereal into her mouth.

"I've got it all planned. Camping, cookouts, the works! We're going to have a blast, my boy—I ultra-mega guarantee it!"

"So," Peonia says as she slides into the chair next to Penny, "what exactly did this Arven bloke do to you to make you sic Dad on him?"

Penny rolls her eyes. "He didn't do anything. He needs this—in a good way. His situation's completely different from our one; his parents were never around."

Peonia snorts. "Lucky him."

"Not as much as you might think." Penny looks across the cafeteria again. Arven still looks confused and nervous, but he's starting to smile a little; her dad's corny "adven-tour" must be sounding pretty good to him. "I think he and Dad will get on all right."

"Well, so much the better if it gets Dad out of our hair a bit."

"Exactly."

"Ha!" Peonia grins, and elbows Penny in the side. "I knew this wasn't all altruism. You are taking the piss, aren't you?"

"I'm not. Arven really does need this. It just also helps us. Plans can accomplish two things." Penny stands up, and swipes her bowl from the table as her father pulls out a map to show Arven. "Now come on. Let's escape while Dad's distracted."

y'know, sometimes I focus a lot on the implications of Juliana/Florian maybe possibly being Nemona's official Greatest Treasure for the semester but not fully confirmed as such, or the undertones of her wanting them to promise to be "rivals for life," when I rant er I mean discuss how it'd be really messed up if she got left behind when they transferred to Blueberry Academy in The Indigo Disc

but I can't believe "I've relished every day since you moved here" is an actual unedited line she says. I just assumed I had embellished that one in my head. nope. there's no way to misread that, no embellishment needed, she just says it! and then gets kind of embarrassed about it and she says she's gonna blush when they say either variation of "you too"

not to be like "there is no platonic explanation for this," because there totally is, but if she's going to be shipped with anyone I think it's really hard to justify it being with anyone else as long as the player character is in the picture

#pokemon sv #pokemon #nemonaposting #nemona #julinemo #especially when let's be real she spent half of her time with the other teen characters arguing and being rejected insulted and ignored #to really hammer home the idea that florian/juliana are special to her for fully accepting her as she is not just for being strong #being a rival and true equal to her that she doesn't need to hold back against is just a metaphor for letting her unmask around them #yeah the rough start does make her eventually becoming friends with Arven and Penny despite still bickering fun and interesting #and it'd be cool if the friend she had such a strong bond with was an actual character with a story who made more of their own decisions #but one of the decisions they do make on their own that you can't go against is that they like her from start to finish so yeah #this game's writing is not groundbreaking but it does reward paying attention while being main series pokemon and i'm proud of em for that #and inspired by how much better it still could be #can i just go into hibernation until the DLC is finished #also for those unfamiliar this is pokemon writing so holding hands is like being married

Scarlet and Violet, performance wise really lacking to the point where it's obvious there needs to be changes to how staff need to be treated better and given more time to work, are really some of the best games in the mainstream series I've ever played and I just really want to talk forever about how amazing it all is

#my switch is getting repaired for drift but man am i itching for it back #I was in the middle of the champion assessment too #but omg I really love the game and the writing and grgrgrgr #I want to bite sada/turo until they blow up #i want to hold arven nemona and penny for being such well written characters with their struggles and bonds together #i want to shake clavell's hand for being an older man in a very gen x/z environment trying to be hip but also wanting the acadamy to-#actually be safe and welcoming while taking accountability for how bullying was ignored and his own dismissal of team star #i want to cry because the teachers are so nice and understanding and actually educate their students while being open to help #and how miriam is an example of someone who tries so hard to achieve their dream for it to be just out of reach #and how the gym leaders have so much personality and how the e4 are so close-knitted together with a little girl in the middle of it all #how koraidon/miraidon thrive under the love the get from the protag and how they act just like giant dogs with the attention they want #and how they're considered low on the ladder in their species in terms of power and size but still have lots of pride and power #i wanna learn more about the crater grgrg #just really really love this game and i miss my lite neee come back to meeee #and yeah i've played from firered to now in terms of mainstream so yeah def i'm being serious #but for real the staff deserve more respect and time literally everyone can agree the game could've waited if it meant better treatment #I really appreciate the love that went into it despite the crunch but it's still shit about the obvious rush #like we know it's not the switch please lengthen the time for people to work on the games so both parties can actually enjoy things #but yeah #pokemon sv spoilers #rosebud posting 💐

im happy that pokemon is a japanese game coz then i get to see tropes used in japanese media like silver being the tsundere. red and leaf being the silent protags. Ns existence in general. green being the cocky asshole turned big brother mentor. hop being the genki character with a tragic development. hikari being isekai-ed. cynthia being the beautiful big sister mentor. kotone-the protag-being the bubbliest sunshine who can have such dangerous pokemon. touko and nemona also being genki girls. lusamine being the hot sexy evil woman. wally being the shota who people will love and protect. steven being an oblivious heartthrob. the fact in every region we will have an ikemen character.

and then we have what is clearly the yandere trope: volo and kieran

sada and turo are fascinating characters for the obvious reasons and it definitely drives me crazy thinking about how they were willing to do a bunch of insane and dangerous things for the sake of bringing about paradise on earth, but i don’t think we acknowledge enough the fact that their idea of ‘paradise’ consists of a bunch of dinosaurs and robots running around. no world peace, no sociopolitical movements, no bringing back long-lost people. they straight up just wanted to play with cool toys they read about in picture books and that ended up driving them insane. they’re so funny

#now i knowww i’m sure it’s more complex than that #like the real implication here is that both of them are on the whole dissatisfied with the present age #sada is like ‘reject modernity embrace tradition’ and turo is like ‘PROGRESS PROGRESS PROGRESS’ to a reckless degree #i think their end goal was really to let the modern world be entirely reshaped into that old/new image #they knew very well that the paradox pokémon wouldn’t be able to peacefully coexist with the rest of the living beings in modern-day paldea #that destruction was foreseen #they saw it as a feature and not a bug #they WANTED that. they wanted to violently raze the world as it was to the ground and have their research byproducts create a new one #sparing only themselves and their son #(au where they succeeded but the paradox mons get way out of control and kill arven too. and then the prof experiences Regret.)#basically this is all to say i think the professors knew full well what they were doing and there was a lot of subtext in there #making them truly and genuinely insane people who still cling to the notion of a good cause #BUT. on the surface it looks like yaaay dinosaurs :) woah cool robots! :0 #literally just a pair of kids in preschool reading picture books and developing hyperfixations #so i think it’s funny #pokémon #scarlet and violet #sv spoilers

Just started rolling credits on Pokémon Violet..... and now I'm crying. I mean I kinda called the ending as I got though the Zero Zone but I didn't expect the gut punch.

Also the credits song goes kinda hard.

For as much shit as PLA got for handling Volo badly (and it did), I think the foreshadowing of him being shady was way better handled than the professors in SV.

#Like Volo is constantly popping up behind us in places he has no business knowing we're heading to #And digging into things he doesn't need to know to add to a very specific knowledge base #That just so happens to correspond perfectly with all the crazy shit going on #He's shady AF but he's friendly so you brush it off which is good twist villain territory #VS the professors who other than a line or two from Arven and the easily missed animation aren't anything but standardly professional #And the game is too busy with its other plotlines to really lay out that bad shit is going down until you're ready to head into Area Zero #I loved that fight too but I think they could have done way better setting it up

alright so in scarlet and violet arven's dead parent is either sada or turo, right? sada in scarlet and turo in violet. the other professor is not mentioned by name in the version they're absent from, but a book in one of the research stations down in area zero states that arven's other parent (presumably the other professor) walked out not long after he was born. it's highly likely that arven's other parent is still around somewhere and i'm wondering if that might be brought up later on. even if it isn't, it's still a very interesting idea to play around with.

#i'm picturing sada (since i have violet) suddenly showing up after the events of the main story #and like even though turo was never really there physically he at least kept in contact with arven up until he died. sada on the other hand #if they saw each other would they even realize who the other is?#pokemon #pokemon scarlet and violet #pokemon scarlet and violet spoilers #kittay.post
