Where In The World Is Phryne Fisher ?
We've picked up Phryne's trail in the windy city! Chicago, Illinois!
Tumblr media
She's been enjoying the Second-City arts scene such as: Chicago Theatre Designed in Neo-Baroque French-Revival style by Rapp and Rapp.
The Chicago Theatre’s exterior features a miniature replica of Paris’ Arc de Triomphe, sculpted above its State Street marquee. The grand movie palace started leaving visitors breathless when it opened on October 26, 1921. Phryne could have Charleston inside while enjoying jazz during Syncopation Week.

The Chicago Theatre Palmer House Hotel (lobby ceiling)
After the first Palmer burned down during the Great Chicago Fire, the second Palmer House was rebuilt as the World’s Only Fireproof Hotel.
The third Palmer House was designed in the 1920s by Holabird & Roche. And what a magnificent lobby bar for Phryne to enjoy a cocktail!

 Palmer House Art Institute lions
The Art Institute on Michigan Avenue sits in the heart of Chicago and was a site for events of the World’s Columbian Exposition of 1894. The two bronze lions, designed by Edward Kemeys, stand upon the flanks of the great external entrance stairway. Phryne certainly can relate to their names “on the prowl” and “stands in defiance.” When has Phryne backed down from a fight?
Tumblr media
The Rodin “Eternal Springtime,” sculpted by Rodin and cast in bronze, was deemed too euphoric to remain with the “Gates of Hell” group. Yet Phryne and millions of others, raw from horrors and destruction of WWI, would have related to the frenzied passion after escaping that hell.

The Tiffany glass
In 1917 Agnes F. Northrop designed the Hartwell Memorial Window for Tiffany Studios. The monumental work, a technical and artistic marvel, is made up of 48 panels, each made with different glass types and combinations.

Phryne, too, is dazzled by this luminous landscape in light. Cloud Gate AKA The Bean
Located in Millennium Park, Cloud Gate, AKA the Bean, permanently reflects the skyline of Chicago’s downtown Loop. Anish Kapoor’s most famous sculpture dominates the minds of residents and visitors. How could Phryne visit Chicago without stopping by to reflect upon her place in the city?
