summary:
Movie nights are always on Fridays’, letting Eddie settle into the weekend; it gives him something to look forward to at the end of every week.
And so, here it is, Friday night again, Eddie ready to spend the night with his two favorite boys. It starts out like any other movie night—or at least, Eddie tells himself it does.
-or-
here, have some Buckley-Diaz movie night headcanons
They have video game nights, which are always a blast, but it’s Movie Nights ™️ that are a sacred thing in the Diaz household.
Eddie’s always in charge of the popcorn and drinks, Buck taking up candy and any other snacks, while Chris does the movie decision making. Buck always goes overboard, though Eddie doesn’t mind, keeping all the extras in the cupboard for any impromptu movie nights or gatherings.
Christopher likes to pick new movies to help with Buck’s ‘film education,’ which he learned from Chimney, though he definitely has his favorites, Buck and Eddie having to veto them from time to time. In these instances, Chris will play the puppy-dog eyes, Eddie getting zero support from Buck who just smiles softly to him with a shrug of his shoulders; Eddie is all but immune at this point to the haunting intro of Finding Nemo.
Their movie nights always start with Chris in the middle, Buck and Eddie on either side of him, the three of them snuggling in together, a jumbo blanket scattered across them. Chris inevitably falls asleep toward the end of the second movie, his head rested against Buck, legs tucked under Eddie. They’ll eventually carry him to bed, tucking him in with a kiss before making their way back to the living room for the second round of movie night, one that involves beers and whatever movie they happen upon. If Buck and Eddie often fall asleep leaned against the other, well, Eddie doesn’t mind; it’s certainly something they never talk about though.

~
Eddie’s just finishing popping the popcorn, the buttery smell wafting through the house, the sound of Chris rifling through the movie shelf echoing from the living room when the front door opens, Buck letting himself in with his spare key.
“Buck!”
Chris abandons his movie selecting for just long enough to give Buck a hug, Eddie watching as his best friend lifts his son in the air, crutches and all, wrapping his arms tightly around him.
“So, what’s on the agenda for tonight, Superman?”
As Buck places Chris back to the floor, he looks over to Eddie, that bashful smile splayed across his face; Eddie doesn’t try to hide his own.
“Hi Eds.”
“Hey, Buck.”
Their moment—or whatever it is that Eddie is going to continue to ignore¬—is cut short when Chris points out a few of the movies he’s picked, the two of them looking them over. Once they’ve agreed on one to start, Buck follows Eddie into the kitchen, setting his plastic bag of snacks onto the counter. Eddie watches fondly as he takes it all out, listing off the items as he goes.
“Got some Reese’s Pieces, Cookie Dough Bites, Air Heads Xtremes, Milk Duds, and some Nerd Ropes—for uh, for Chris.”
Eddie nods his head, not buying it at all.
“Uh, huh. That why you got your favorite flavor of them?”
Buck does his little head duck, the one that always makes Eddie melt.
“Oh, I got you something!”
Eddie waits, watching as Buck pulls something else out of the bag, holding it out to him. It’s a pack of Sour Patch Kids. It’s just a bag of candy, though Eddie’s heart flutters anyway.
The first time they’d invited Buck over for movie night, Buck had brought over a package of the candy. At the end of the night, Eddie had stupidly declared they were his favorite candy, Buck making sure to bring along a bag whenever he could. Buck hadn’t been able to find any the last few weeks, thus he was surprising Eddie with a jumbo bag of them now.
Now, don’t get Eddie wrong, he enjoyed the candy like most, though it was nowhere near his favorite, nor one he wanted to eat week after week, though he did for fear of disappointing his best friend. Otherwise, he’d have to tell Buck the real reason they were his favorite, and he certainly wasn’t ready for that.
Taking the bag from Buck, Eddie let’s their fingers linger for a moment too long, smiling up to him.
“Thanks.”
Buck gets that dopey smile again, shrugging like it’s no big deal.
They both turn their attention to the rest of the snack food, Eddie getting out bowls for the popcorn while Buck gathers up the various snacks and drinks, the two of them following each other into the living room.
Chris has the movie all set up, sitting in his usual place in the middle of the couch, toothy grin on his face. Eddie passes out the bowls of popcorn while Buck opens the various candies, placing them on the table in front of them into the other bowls; Eddie had a strict ‘no noisy wrappers during the movie,’ rule, something Buck and Chris both like to poke fun at him for from time to time. They’re noisy and irritating, ok?
As they settle in, Eddie can’t help but to look over to Buck, watching the easy way he just fits into their life, almost like he’d always been there, like he belongs.
The thought warms Eddie wholly, though it’s another one he has no idea what to do with. Instead, he focuses his attention ahead, eyes on the screen as the familiar Marvel intro takes over. Tonight’s choice is Spider-Man: No Way Home AKA Chris’ agenda to keep Buck up to date on the Marvel cinematic universe.
For the next two and a half hours, the three of them are totally immersed in the movie, the only reminder they’re not alone when their fingers brush as they grab for the same snacks. Chris seems oblivious to even that, only Buck and Eddie getting stuck in each other’s eyes.
They all approve of the movie, especially the cameos, all of them leaning forward on the couch to really take in the moment.
When it finishes, along with the post-credit scene—Eddie’s heart does a little putter patter for seeing Venom and Eddie—they all get up to take an intermission of sorts.
Eddie makes fresh popcorn because most of the first batch is laid cold and abandoned on the table, the three of them having been too focused on the candy.
After hitting the ‘popcorn button,’ Eddie leans back against the counter, hands pressed into it behind him. Buck saunters in, stretching his arms above him, Eddie watching closely as his sweatshirt rides up, exposing his toned abdomen.
“So, whata you think he’s got in store for us next?”
What? Oh yes movies, they were talking about movies.
“Definitely a repeat. He’s gonna want something familiar after all of that.”
Buck nods his head in agreement, moving to grab the popped corn from the microwave once it buzzes. He throws a piece to Eddie, which he easily catches in his mouth. Eddie moves toward Buck, grabbing out a piece of his own, making the same maneuver to Buck who crunches the popcorn with a smile as he catches it. Chris comes in moments later to the two of them moving their bodies from side to side, snatching up pieces of popcorn into their mouths as they go.
“You guys are so weird.”
They only laugh, not denying it, both of them ruffling his hair as they walk by.
Gathered back on the couch, Chris clicks play on his next selection, Eddie breathing out a slight sigh of relief not to see ocean water taking over his screen, but instead an abundance of toys. Toy Story was one of Chris’ favorites, Bucks too.
One night, after they’d tucked Chris into bed, Buck had told Eddie why it was he loved Toy Story so much. ‘It made me feel like I wasn’t so alone. My toys were always there for me, ya know?’
Eddie had barely been able to keep his tears at bay.
As per usual, Chris knocks out about the time creepy Sid takes over, his head nestled into Buck’s side, legs spread over Eddie’s lap.
When the credits begin to roll, Buck and Eddie share a knowing look, the two of them moving in sync so as not to disturb Chris. Buck takes Chris in his arms while Eddie follows them down the hall, watching with a fond smile as Buck places Chris onto the bed, tucking him in. They both place kisses to his head before quietly exiting the room, making their way back to the living room after a quick stop in the kitchen.
Eddie hands one of the open beers to Buck, the two of them clanking them together before taking back sips. Buck hands Eddie the bag of sour patch kids that he hasn’t touched yet, Eddie only able to give him a smile in thanks.
They put on a mindless movie, one neither of them pays much attention to. Eddie’s too caught up in the way Buck’s body is all but pressed into him from shoulder to waist, their warmth seeping together. They’re about twenty minutes into it when Buck turns to Eddie, nodding to the still unopened bag in his hands.
“Not feeling them tonight?”
Eddie fiddles with the bag for a minute before letting a bit of the truth slip out.
“No, I never really do though.”
For the confused look on Buck’s face, Eddie sighs and opens the package, digging for the one he wants.
“I’ve never really liked these, not that much anyway.”
“Why didn’t you ever say anything? You could’ve just told me Eds.”
No really, he couldn’t have.
“I only like them, because they remind me of you.”
Eddie’s fingers catch on the one he wants and he slips it out of the bag, holding it out to Buck. Buck still looks utterly confused, though he takes the piece of candy, glancing it over.
“The blue Sour Patch?”
Eddie nods his head, clearing his throat before spilling his guts.
“They didn’t always have this flavor, and when they added it, it was still a rare find. You always have to dig around for them, and only end up getting a few per bag, plus, they’re the best flavor.”
“Ok, I uh, I agree with you Eds, but I still don’t get what that has to do with me?”
Has Eddie mentioned how oblivious his best friend is?
“Because, that’s you. You weren’t always in my life, and there’s no one quite like you, Buck. We only get to see you here and there, so when you’re here, it’s a real treat. Plus, the um, the color reminds me of you. You’re my favorite Sour Patch, Buck.”
Eddie watches as those blues of Bucks fill with moisture, his fingers tightening around the piece of candy still in his hands.
“Eddie, do you—do you know why I brought those over that first time?”
Eddie hasn’t ever given it much thought, if any.
“Um, no?”
Buck shifts on the couch, his knees knocking into Eddie’s.
“I was at the store, looking for snacks and I—I didn’t really know what your favorites were yet. I saw the sour patch kids and they just—reminded me of you.”
Now it’s Eddie’s turn to look confused.
“I uh, you know—because you’re sour then sweet.”
Eddie gives a raise of his brow, along with his unamused face, Buck laughing softly.
“See? That’s what I mean! You were all sweet about me a minute ago, but now you’re giving me the death glare!”
And Buck is—not wrong.
“So, what you’re saying is that you’ve been buying these all these years, and I’ve been pretending to love them, all because they reminded us of the other?”
Buck gives another chuckle, scooting closer to close the gap between them.
“Guess so. I just—I have one question.”
“What’s that?”
“Well, you said the blue ones taste the best, so I was just wondering…. if you thought that was true or not?”
Buck, the little shit that he is, brings the blue Sour Patch to his mouth, popping it in before moving his lips. Those blues look up to meet him, Eddie moving until they’re right in front of him, his nose catching the blue raspberry scent off Bucks lips.
He presses his lips to Bucks ever so slightly, brushing them together before applying pressure, Buck all but melting into him.
They kiss softly at first, if not a little tentative, Eddie finally testing the waters as he dips his tongue into Bucks mouth, the sweet sugary taste greeting him as their tongues tangle together.
When their kiss finally breaks, the two of them leaned together, Eddie whispers out, “nothing tastes as good as you.”
He can feel Buck smile against him, their lips meeting once more.
They kiss until their yawns take over, the two of them pushing all the snacks aside so they can properly settle on the couch, Eddie tucking himself into the back, resting his head over Bucks chest, their fingers tangling together in the middle.
“This is my favorite movie.”
Eddie chuckles into Buck, pressing a kiss over his birthmark.
“You’re such a sap.”
“Says the one who compared me to a piece of candy.”
“You did the same thing.”
“Well, you got me there.”
They snuggle closer to one another, tucking in for the night, not caring how much their backs will hate them come morning; ok, maybe just a little.
“Hey Eds?”
“Yea?”
“You make life a little less sour.”
Eddie lets out a groan, burying his head into the crook of Buck’s neck.
“Watch it Buckley, or I might get sour on you.”
Buck only pulls Eddie closer, placing a kiss to his head.
“That’s ok, my sweet Eddie always comes back.”
And of course, Eddie melts at that, completely relaxing into Buck, just like he’d said.
Every movie night from then on includes a bag of Sour Patch Kids, though they rarely get eaten, the pantry slowly filling up with them. Chris doesn’t understand why they keep buying them, though Buck and Eddie give each other the dopiest grins whenever another bag enters the house, the one that will soon be there’s.
Even when Buck moves in, movie nights remain, all of them piling in together on the couch. It’s a tradition, one they’ve made together.
The only thing rarer than the blue Sour Patch is the ring Eddie finds in a bag months later, those baby blues looking up to him from where Buck was knelt down by the couch.
Their wedding was the one film they all made it to the end of.

michaela pratt (htgawm) - final season did her so dirty but she’s My Girl
tk strand (911: lonestar) - baby boy. just wnt to hug him and steal his hoodie collection
julie molina (jatp) - girlie has my whole heart, she can sing and has style? take all my money
and klara gold (the immortalists) - sobbing over her is the most cathartic experience for me, love my strong-willed, probably clinically insane, alcoholic magician
 13. Top 5 dead characters
robert willis (code black) – the man had maybe 2 minutes of screen time but like that’s my husband
root (person of interest) – it’s been 4 years since she died and i have not stopped crying over her?? truly insane. also one of the deciding factors for me realising i liked girls so thanks amy acker !!
wes gibbins (htgawm) – deserved SO much more???
laurel lance (arrow) – i feel like the fact that i had to skip school the day after her death episode aired says enough
klara gold (again) – really can’t put into words how much she means to me? i went into her section knowing she’d die but the tragic heroine Always gets me i guess
 25. Top 5 ships
luke/lorelai (gilmore girls) – they always remind me of soulmateism, their relationship also kind of reminds me of my parent’s one so yeah i love them a lot.
jeff/annie (community) – the pining, the denial, the long looks….. truly am a wh*re for them
buck/eddie (911) – non-canon canon husbands raising their kid together, what more does a girl want
rox/ethan (code black) – technically off-screen endgame but i’ll accept it given the glorious angst of their back and forth before she nearly dies and he drops everything and everyone for her? just say you’re in love and go honestly but like internally, v secret, maybe i prefer rox w the dead brother bc their angst potential is huge and i love pain
rosie/alex (love rosie) – made me believe in the childhood best friends to lovers trope, very sick and twisted of them but they’re the loves of my life and the book makes me sob bc it’s all worth it in the end and i just adore them
 27. Top 5 brotps
mario/malaya (code black) – got virtually no solo bro time (from what i vaguely remember from s1) but i just know they’re best friends and they hang out all the time and she totally gave him hell about being whipped on noa. i know all of this is true, i just know it
reese/shaw (person of interest) – snarky bi assassins living my dream life and just being buds, truly elite friendship
troy/abed (community) – platonic but slightly romantic soulmates, constantly searching for the troy to my abed if i’m being honest
tammy/sebastian (ncis:nola) – himbo/lesbian solidarity like they just make me Soft and for a pairing that are all abt the laughs i cry over them too often
paris/rory (gilmore girls) – just girls being friends and never losing contact with each other. genuinely upset that my paris is currently 4 hours away even tho we never went to the same school she’s my oldest and dearest friend and just a total nerd, words truly cannot convey how much they are us and we are them lol. also i attacked her 3 days after we met and she still has a scar from that encounter… good times
 35. Top 5 best moments
the ending of fallen angels (code black s2 finale) makes me sob like i was dehydrated by the end of the episode because i just lost it at the softness of ariel and leanne and the sense of found family that the whole finale had. very fun time for me !
the end scene for community s3 e4 because those idiots dancing around a room gives me so much serotonin it is unreal. i have lost track of the amount of times i’ve watched that scene this year, it’s just so good and wholesome
ummmm i can’t remember the episode because it is late and i am too lazy to google but the orphan black scene where they’re all dancing bc they just dodged a major bullet and i just love it so much bc it makes me Happy. also the song choice just slaps so hard i love it
the scene after beth wins the world championship and we see everyone who supported her lose their minds??? one aspect that wasn’t in the book that i loved so much like the abandoned orphan girl made something of herself and had people who loved and supported her and ugh the love i have for the queen’s gambit is something else
also jatp scene at the end when they realise they can touch each other….. luke and julie holding each other’s faces is something that just means a lot to my touch starved self
