Dinovember day 5: Allosaurus
In 1879, one of Edward Drinker Cope's collectors found a notably near-complete Allosaurus specimen, one of the most complete theropod specimens then known, but apparently failed to mention this completeness. The specimen was only unpacked in 1903, several years after Cope died. This specimen, AMNH 5753, was then put on display as the first free-standing mount of a theropod dinosaur. However, despite its notability and fame, it has never been scientifically described.

Allosaurus fragilis feasting on an Apatosaurus while an Ornitholestes is carefully sneaking by, possibly trying to steal a piece. Inspired by a picture of AMNH 5753 I took during my vacation in New York back in 2012.
