Happy Wednesday everyone! Week 6 is here and this week I'm sampling a delicious Colombia Finca La Paz, a direct trade micro lot from @purebeanroasters in South Dakota. I highly recommend you try these guys out! Not only is the coffee great but Nick who does a lot of their roasting was a great guy to talk with! The coffee as I said earlier is quite delicious. Very nutty sweet aromatics of hazelnut or salted nuts turn to hints of caramel during the brew process. I brewed using a V60 dripper. Notes of hazelnut and even sweet pepper in the cup. I'm definitely excited to see how this will taste using other methods throughout the week. Well, it's Wednesday which means it's time for week 4's roaster! I have been extremely eager to try this roaster ever since I found out about them from my good friend, @le_reebs. @vervecoffee from California is my roaster for the week and they were absolutely awesome to talk with during the coffee picking process. I especially want to thank Stephanie and Devin for their time and help in the selection process. Now, onto the coffee… The roast I chose from Verve was a Santa Rosa from Costa Rica. This light roast has great aromatics of sweet, juicy, tropical fruit with notes of pomegranate and brown sugar that intensifies with cooling. I used a Kalita Wave as my brew method and cannot wait to try other methods as the week progresses. Week 3's roaster is @ceremonycoffee from Annapolis, Maryland. This week I'm trying their Columbia Asorcafe. I first brewed this roast using a Chemex. This roast offers aromatics of butterscotch and graham cracker which blended to a rich buttery aroma during the brew process. Notes of citrus with a slight tartness in the cup. I'm excited to try this with other brew methods the next few days! Week 2 of my 50 State coffee campaign: This week's roaster is @sidecarcoffee from Cedar Falls, Iowa. I picked up a bag of their Malawi - Misuku Hills out of the Msese, SE Mzimba region. Having never had coffee from Malawi before, I was quite excited to try this roast. I was instantly rewarded with aromatics of caramel and sweet fruit. I brewed using the Kalita Wave method which led to a wonderfully sweet cup of coffee filled with notes of raisin and caramel. After a short attempt last year, I've decided to restart my quest to sample 50 different roasters, one from each state by the end of the year. With Wisconsin being my home state I started the year with one of my favorites, @rubyroasters. I went with their Burundi Nkonge. A very wonderful roast that had very sweet citrusy aromatics and toffee like to fruity notes in the cup. Brewed it using Kalita and Chemex methods. Very happy with their coffee as always. Hey everyone it's Friday! As mentioned yesterday, I'm brewing up Week 7's roast tonight from @presscoffee from the state of Arizona. I brewed using the Kalita Wave method which is my preferred way to first brew new roasts. This week's roast is a natural process Ethiopian Konga. Sweet aromatics almost like fresh baked bread turn to notes of juicy strawberries and also vanilla in the cup.
