Twins Finalize Non-Roster Invitees
The Minnesota Twins finalized their non-roster invitees for Spring Training this afternoon. They have invited Charlie Barnes, Sam Clay, Daniel Coulombe, Blaine Hardy, Caleb Thielbar, Jhoulys Chacin, Edwar Colina, Ryan Garton, Griffin Jax, Jake Reed, Juan Graterol, Ryan Jeffers, Ben Rortvedt, Tomas Telis, Royce Lewis, Jack Reinheimer, Wilfredo Tovar, Alex Kiriloff, Trevor Larnach, and Brent Rooker.
Charlie Barnes was a fourth round draft pick out of Clemson in 2017. He posted good numbers at Pensacola last year going (3-4) with a 3.60 ERA in fourteen games. He struggled at Rochester with a 6.75 ERA in four games to close out the season.
Sam Clay was a fourth round pick out of Georgia Tech in 2014. He had a good year at Pensacola with a 2.70 ERA in 46 2/3 innings. He reached Rochester and posted a 4.76 ERA in fourteen games for the Red Wings.
Daniel Coulombe has bounced around with the Dodgers and A’s. He pitched in 27 games and had a 4.56 ERA for the A’s in 2018. He spent last season at AAA with the Yankees and Brewers. He had a 4.71 ERA in 31 games.
Blaine Hardy spent six seasons with the Tigers and looked good-and-bad at times. He had a 4.47 ERA in 39 games for Detroit in 2019 season. He had a pair of good starts against the Twins in 2018. he threw five innings and allowed two runs on May 21st and threw six innings and allowed two runs on June 12th.
Caleb Thielbar spent three seasons in a Twins uniform. He had a great rookie season in 2013 with a 1.76 ERA in 46 innings. He was a solid reliever in 2014, but fell off when he allowed three runs in five innings in 2015. He spent 2016 and 2017 with the St. Paul Saints and was one of their best relievers. He was with the Braves and Tigers last year at AAA and had a 3.22 ERA.
Jhoulys Chacin has had some good years and some bad years. He had three solid seasons with the Rockies in 2010 (nine wins), 2011 (eleven wins), and 2013 (fourteen wins). Chacin fell off the map a bit in 2015 and 2016, but came back with a strong 2017 season with the Padres. He went (13-10) with a 3.89 ERA in 32 games. The Brewers picked him up for 2018 and he went (15-8) with a 3.50 ERA. He had a terrible 2019 season, where his ERA rose to 6.01 with the Brewers and Red Sox. He has a chance to crack the Opening Day roster with Rich Hill not returning until June and Michael Pineda being suspending for 40 games or so.
Edwar Colina had a solid 2019 season in the Twins system. He started at Fort Myers and had a 2.34 ERA in ten games for the Miracle. He continued his success at Pensacola with a 2.03 ERA in seven games. He made two appearances at Rochester and allowed nine runs in 4 2/3 innings.
Ryan Garton has bounced around with the Rays and Mariners. He had a 5.26 ERA in two seasons with the Rays and had a 1.54 ERA in 11 2/3 innings for the Mariners in 2017. He returned last year and allowed four runs in three innings of work for the Mariners.
Griffin Jax is an interesting story. He was a pitcher at Air Force and posted a 2.05 ERA in 105 1/3 innings in his senior year. He had a good year in Pensacola with a 2.67 ERA in 111 1/3 innings for the Blue Wahoos. He made three starts for Rochester and had a 5.63 ERA.
Jake Reed has seemingly been in the Twins farm system forever. He was a fifth round pick in 2014 and still hasn’t made his big league debut. He had a great 2018 season, where he posted a 1.89 ERA in 47 2/3 innings. Last year, he was roughed up a bit and his ERA ballooned to 5.76 as he made the transition to starter. This camp will be an important one for him.
Juan Graterol has bounced around a bit with the Angels, Twins and Reds. The Twins called him up late in the 2018 season because they needed a backup catcher for the last weekend series of the year. He hit .249 for the Louisville Bats last year.
Ryan Jeffers is rising through the Twins minor league system rather quickly. He hit .256 with ten homers and forty RBI’s at Fort Myers last year before getting promoted to Pensacola, where he hit .298 in 24 games. He will likely start the year at AA.
Ben Rortvedt is a left-handed hitting catcher. He hit .238 at Pensacola and Fort Myers in 2019. He doesn’t have a ton of power, but is a great defensive catcher.
Tomas Telis had a solid year at Rochester in 2019. He hit .330 with eight homers and forty-six RBI’s and was an International League All-Star. He is a switch hitter and should see some time with the Red Wings this year.
Royce Lewis receives his third invite to spring training. The twenty-year old and former first overall pick hit .236 with twelve homers and forty-nine RBI’s at Fort Myers and Pensacola last year. He was in the Futures Game and showed a big personality.
Jack Reinhemer has bounced around the minor leagues with the Mariners, Diamondbacks, Mets, and Orioles. He hit .246 with four homers and thirty-one RBI’s at Norfolk for the Orioles AAA team in 2019.
Wilfredo Tovar is back with the Twins. He started his minor league career with the Mets then the Twins signed him in 2016. He hit .249 that year and has been the Cardinals and Angels since then. He was with the Salt Lake Bees, where he hit .321 with 57 RBI’s in 2019.
Alex Kiriloff continues to mash in the Minors for the Twins. He hit .283 with nine homers and forty-three RBI’s at Pensacola last year. The lefty spent time at both corner outfield spots and first base in 2019. He was the first round pick in 2016.
Trevor Larnach rose to AA last year after hitting .316 in 84 games for the Fort Myers Miracle. He reached Pensacola and hit .295 in 43 games for the Blue Wahoos. He should be at AA again to start the 2020 season.
Brent Rooker had a good 2019 season with the Red Wings. he hit .282 with fourteen homers and 47 RBI’s. He missed some time with a left wrist strain and only played in 65 games last year. He should be good to go and make his MLB debut at some point in 2020.
Overall, the Twins are trying out some left-handed pitchers in Daniel Coulombe, Caleb Thielbar, Blaine Hardy, and Charlie Barnes. I think Jhoulys Chacin has a good chance to make the Opening Day Roster with Rich Hill out til June and Michael Pineda’s suspension. Roster spots for position players are going to be hard to come by this spring. It will be good to see Alex Kiriloff, Trevor Larnach, and Brent Rooker this spring.

Ancient Egypt & the Aegean
Chapter 5 & 6
Chapter 5 is very interesting. I wonder how awesome it would have been to be the Egyptologist’s that found all the tombs and artifacts inside them. To be thought of as a god was quite the idea. I am sure more than a couple of kings tried to make up their own religion as Akhenaten (Amenhotep IV). The Idea of using the word dynasty to describe the generations of the royal families is so over the top. I find Egyptian culture so intriguing. The sun is our god today as it was at that time as well. I think we today do not worship the earth the way we should, after all it is our god along with the sun. not one culture so far in this book has pointed out how great the earth is to us. Without her (earth) and the sun we could not exist the way we do. Today we still barely recognize what the earth does for us. End of rant on my opinion of what we should worship and label as our gods.
The art from all eras of ancient Egypt are more beautiful than the predecessors that came before them. Who knew that king Tutankhamun’s tomb had 2 gold coffins, the inner smaller one weighing a staggering 243 pounds. That’s a lot of gold, and it is absolutely stunning to look at.
Unlike the Egyptian paintings, the Minoan fresco’s suggested that the figures in the pictures were in movement. Although I do not see the difference in the paintings. Egyptians were either killing someone, carrying things and what looks to be like walking, and playing with their children in their pictures. I would say the difference that stands out to me is that the Minoan art is generally more detailed. I refer to “6.9 ship fresco” in the text. Also, the pottery vases 6.7 and 6.8 show how the Cyclades were more advanced with their art. Verses the bold colors and outlines used by Egyptians 5.25 and 5.26 of the text for example. Tutankhamun’s coffin is one of a kind, but compared to the Minoan art it is primitive.
Although the stone carvings and structures were quite comparable, the city of Thera in the southern Cyclades was way ahead of its time. This affluent ancient town was paved, mud brick housing, and plumbing systems in the buildings and ground. It is too bad that many earthquakes destroyed Crete.
The Mycenaean civilization was ahead of its time too. The housing suggested a higher standard of living. The layout and art on the walls of the buildings is just like the Minoan people. Using different chambers for different uses, made these buildings one a kind.
Egyptian and Mycenaean tombs were somewhat similar. The Egyptian tombs being gigantic stone structures, though had an inner area for the tombs for their royalty like the Mycenaean tombs. Most which were plundered anyway. Finding the stone, moving it, and building the pyramids must have takin a long time to do. Along with taking forever to build the shrines how many people were involved with these creations. The Egyptian civilization must have been enormous to the Cyclades civilizations.

Stellar's XLM gets a stellar boost of 5% ahead of Coinbase listing
New Post has been published on https://cryptnus.com/2018/11/stellars-xlm-gets-a-stellar-boost-of-5-ahead-of-coinbase-listing/
Stellar's XLM gets a stellar boost of 5% ahead of Coinbase listing
Stellar Lumens [XLM] has finally seen a boost of over 5% due to speculations ahead of Coinbase listing. Unlike other cryptocurrencies, Stellar Lumens [XLM] has been affected by massive volatility in the forever-lasting bear market.
The prices of XLM were going haywire during press time, with the 24-hour change going up to 5% and falling back to normal and further down. XLM is now the fourth most-traded asset on Binance, just after Bitcoin [BTC], Bitcoin Cash [BCH] and Ethereum [ETH].
Source: Trading View
The price of XLM in a one-day time frame had a very bumpy ride, with its price standing steadily at $0.2691 and a market cap of $5.09 billion on November 11. XLM, on the same day, faced a mild bump and the market cap got a push up to $5.14 billion and the price also rose up to $0.2715.
The price and the market cap remained the same more-or-less for a few more hours before changing further. Later the same day, the price and the market cap both took a hit and went down to $0.2633 and $4.98 billion respectively. The 24-hour trade volume rose up by 25.8% during this time period.
The price corrected itself at this point and moved up $0.2749, and market cap followed the same path and reached $5.2 billion. The prices, after this point, continued on a slow journey with less volatility and reached $0.2840, with market cap tracing a new high at $5.37 billion. The prices have started plunging since this new high.
The market cap of the asset is currently at $5.26 billion and the 24-hour trading volume is at $113.64 million. The supply for the asset comes mostly from Binance’s platform, which contributes to a total of 32.6% [approx] with pairs XLM/BTC and XLM/USDT. The next contributor to the asset is Upbit exchange which contributes to 9% [approx] of the total volume.

The Feminine State
Macbeth, a play about a Scottish king whose exceptionally short rule is bookended by acts of murder and violence, hardly seems auspicious in commemorating the ascent of King James to the English throne. Yet for all its unsettling implications about Scottish monarchs, Macbeth succeeds in questioning the role of the feminine in the body politic, effectively unseating the deceased Queen Elizabeth in order to make way for a new male lineage. Throughout the play, feminine power is portrayed as a chaotic and contradictory force that cannot be defined, only feared. Lady Macbeth’s embodiment of paradoxical womanhood serves to affirm King James’ right to the crown by dismissing the validity of female rule, and therefore the rule of his predecessor.
Macbeth’s susceptibility to his wife’s suggestion is somehow less heinous than Lady Macbeth’s ability to persuade her husband into committing regicide, with the former seen as a characteristic of human weakness and the latter as evidence of feminine treachery. While Macbeth himself contemplated killing Duncan after seeing the witches’ first prophecy come true (albeit with hesitation and fear), the play often emphasizes Lady Macbeth’s murderous intentions more than her husband’s actual acts of violence. Upon reading Macbeth’s letter, Lady Macbeth immediately laments that he “wouldst be great, / Art not without ambition, but without / The illness should attend it.”[1] Lady Macbeth senses the necessity of murder in bringing the witches’ prophecy to fruition, even if her husband is less than eager to admit it. The audience is meant to feel that Macbeth perhaps would not have killed Duncan if left to his own devices, and was only driven to murder by his wife’s repeated insistence. Yet when the time comes to perform the act itself, Lady Macbeth is unable to deliver the final blow, noting that if the sleeping king had “not resembled / [Her] father as he slept, [she] had done’t.”[2] For all her plotting, the Lady never directly engages in the bloodshed directly—a woman is nefarious enough to have men do her bidding, yet too delicate to perform the act herself. Rather than exonerating Lady Macbeth, this distance condemns her all the more, positioning her as an accessory to a crime not otherwise committed. This paradox of malicious womanhood is seen in the witches and witch-like figures within the play who alter the course of events from afar.
Lady Macbeth, though never explicitly described as such, takes on the role and characteristics of a witch through her acts of monologuing and manipulation. Just as the three Weird Sisters never act directly upon Macbeth and only interfere in his affairs by imparting knowledge upon him, Lady Macbeth enacts change upon her husband through the power of words alone. Wishing to “chastise with the valour of [her] tongue / All that impedes [Macbeth] from the golden round,”[3] the Lady remains physically removed from most of the play’s violence while orchestrating her husband’s actions through mere language. Language was deemed a dangerous weapon in the hands (or mouth) of a woman, and women themselves potential tools of devilish forces. However, more than simply replicating the rhetoric of witchcraft with intense scolding, Lady Macbeth arguably performs (or at least attempts) actual witchcraft when she invokes the power of “you spirits / That tend on mortal thoughts.”[4] Even though such a ritual was directed only at her own self and not explicitly towards a third party, Lady Macbeth’s witchery posed a threat to male dominance simply by exhibiting a uniquely female power. This “performative utterance” would have itself been considered an act of witchcraft by Jacobean standards, as “the very act of summoning demonic powers transforms her into the witch” classified by the Witchcraft Statute of 1604.[5] Her willingness to dabble in the dark arts is evidence enough, with the effectiveness of said arts mattering less than her intent to unlock its promises. Lady Macbeth’s proximity to witchcraft calls into question whether the labels of noblewoman and witch could overlap, which in turn undermines faith in the integrity of a female ruler while simultaneously threatening the hierarchy of male power.
The close relationship between witchcraft and the pathologized female condition was a tool used to condemn both the feminine body corporeal and body politic. Lady Macbeth’s heed to “Make thick [her] blood” to “Stop up th’access and passage to remorse”[6] is consistent with humorism, in which “her blood take[s] on the grossness and thickness characteristic of melancholy,” a state which would theoretically “impede and nullify the operations of conscience.”[7] However, in “abjur[ing] her womanhood to be impregnated with cruelty,” Lady Macbeth encounters a cessation of her menstrual flow, which brings “further results which she has not considered.”[8] For her blood to thicken “That no compunctious visitings of nature / Shake [her] fell purpose,”[9] Lady Macbeth would induce a state of amenorrhea, and “Shakespeare attributed to her those very symptoms that… contemporary medical books claim will occur when a woman’s natural visitings cease.”[10] Though we have since shifted from humorism to modern science, both heuristics offer biological explanations of witchcraft. During the Jacobean period, witchcraft was attributed to melancholic “imaginative disorders” in which women “thinking to ride the air… were more likely having vivid hallucinations while lying in their beds.”[11] Today, we conceptualize amenorrhea as an explanation for the three witches’ beards, which were a symptom of hormonal defeminization and the “consequences of catamenial retention and stoppage,”[12] both defeminizing the witches and retroactively diagnosing them with an inherently feminine syndrome. In either instance, women’s bodies are levied against themselves as accusations of physical deficiencies (if not of moral failings) in order to uphold male structures of rule. Throughout history the female body has been sorted into “both natural and supernatural categories [which] promised to reveal the hidden truth of femininity, its latent potential for disorder and deception.”[13] Whether witches, melancholics, or amenorrhiacs, women who exist beyond the bounds of acceptability are made sites of bodily scrutiny. They are denounced as abnormal, yet this abnormality is an explanation for the universal distrust of the feminine.
Even a woman stripped of female qualities upholds the paradoxical and threatening nature of womanhood. Lady Macbeth, in trading her ability to bear children for the resolve to become queen, both secures and condemns the Macbeth royal lineage. While she is ambitious enough to seek the crown by any means necessary (even at the cost of her own fertility), Lady Macbeth is too selfish and short-sighted to ensure that her husband will have heirs. Sripped of the essentialist qualities that define a woman, the unsexed Lady Macbeth still embodies a distinctly female failure in which she “appeals to the maternal to deny the patrilineal… readily kill[ing] Macbeth’s progeny to secure her husband’s succession.”[14] Much like Queen Elizabeth, whose desire to remain in power led to her refusal of marriage (and therefore lack of children to inherit the throne), Lady Macbeth shuns her duty as a mother in the pursuit of ambition. The failure to bear children is still a markedly feminine deficit, a mistake which only a woman could make. The Lady Macbeths of the world always remain marked by their femininity, whether in its presence or absence; even the need to distance oneself from womanhood remains a uniquely feminine predicament. Men remain “unsexed” simply by virtue of existing as the default category, whereas a queen who must continually assert that she has “the heart and stomach of a king”[15] paradoxically ensures that she will forever be measured in relation to her femaleness. Lady Macbeth embodies the fears surrounding female rule, in which ‘properly’ feminine women are precluded from positions of power (and are instead relegated to motherhood) while women who deviate from expectations of gender represent a specific failing of women as rulers.
Although Macbeth is a play populated by violence, Lady Macbeth is often thought of as one of its most ruthless characters, despite committing no direct acts of violence, save for her own likely suicide. Her language and behavior alone create a character who is frightening simply for being a complicated woman—so complicated that womanhood itself is put on trial. A woman could be many conflicting things at the same time, but none of these things were favorable. By demonizing Lady Macbeth and questioning the role of women in the political sphere, Macbeth helped legitimize King James on the English throne, firmly categorizing the play as Jacobean in both era and purpose.
