NO BUSINESS CAN RUN WITHOUT THESE THINGS
The life of a businessman depends on how he chooses it to be- easy or difficult. With experience, business tips, some business training or business courses they learn a lot of new things. But there are some basic things without which no business can ever be successfully run.
What are those things without which your business can’t run?
Define business goals. To give the business a good place, first of all it is necessary to set the goals. Our goals can be of 10 types on the basis of time:
Final goal (after death)- How you want to be remembered after your death.
Long term goal- From 20 years till death
Mid term goal- 5yrs to 20yrs
Short term goal- 1yr to 5yrs
Yearly goal- 1yr
Monthly goal- 1 month
Weekly goal- 1 week
Daily goal- 24 hrs
Hourly goal- 60min
Micro short term goal- 5min
If want to take your business to a good height, it is very important to define different types of goals.
On the basis of nature, goals can be of types:
Spiritual
Mental
Physical
Financial
Name, fame & image
Socialising
Social work
Entertainment
Travel/adventure
Sexual/gratification
You will have to define your financial goal in business, where do you want to reach, where do see yourself 5-10 yrs after. This would also avoid some common financial mistakes that businessmen often do.
A business without a goal is just like cricket without wicket.
Now how should you set your goals?
Set SMART goals- Specific Measurable Achievable Realistic Time bound
Be specific about what you want, define it properly.
It should be measurable mentioned in numbers (Do not say I want to be very rich, be specific about how much money do you think you should have to be called as rich).
You should set a goal that can be achieved and not just for the sake of setting.
Set goals that are not too high to be realistic.
Mention the time by when you want to achieve your goal. Remember that you must write your goal in present tense. For example, “I have red Mercedes S-Class worth Rs 1.36Cr on 31st Dec 2020.
After you have set your goal, you now need to have a picture of your goal right in front of your eyes. Place in on your dining table, study table, in front of your bed, in the bathroom, on your office table etc. You must see your goal day in and day out. If your goal would be right in front of you all the time, then only would you work hard for it and achieve it.
2. Do things differently. If you are doing what you have been doing till now, then you will get what you have got till now. If you want to take your business to new heights, then do something different, something out of the box, do something that no one else has done.
3. Keep yourself feather light. The lighter you keep your business, the better it would be. Ola, Uber do the same thing. They do not have too many of their own cars or employees. Similarly, Oyo has employees which are of contractors, not their own. Their own employees are very less. So, use outsourcing, affiliate marketing, franchise or collaborations. This would help in keeping your business light would help in scaling your business.
4. Good working habits. Train’s speed depends on its engine. Faster the engine, the faster the train. It also depends on the track that has been chosen. Now who is the engine of your business? You yourself are the engine of your business. You habits define you. Keep yourself organized, be in the habit of reaching office on time, keep yourself fit, manage your time well, sleep early & wake up early, be presentable, maintain personal hygiene etc. All these things have a positive impact on your business. Good habits will help in scaling the business.
5. Keep yourself motivated. If you will be focused, you will be motivated and this motivation will scale your business. A lot of problems are faced while running a business and if you are not focused, not motivated then you may lose interest in your business and start looking for other options. Being focused and being motivated go hand in hand and help in scaling the business.

6 . Keep your employees motivated. Your employees are extremely important for your business and so is employee management. So, it is important to look after employee welfare too. Take them for an off-site training, provide them with a friendly work environment. Your employees should enjoy while working and not take it as a burden. Keep them motivated. Trust them for a trusted future.

6 Simple Ways to Get More Returning Customers to Your eCommerce Store
Tumblr media
Did you know you can earn more by selling to returning customers rather than acquiring new customers?
As a business owner, it's important that you get new customers going to your store. After all, customers are the only thing keeping your business going. Most eCommerce owners make the mistake of thinking they can only get sales from new customers:
Acquiring a new customer can cost five times more than retaining an existing customer.
Increasing customer retention by 5% can increase profits from 25-95%.
The success rate of selling to a customer you already have is 60-70% while selling to a new customer is 5-20%.
Research reveals that businesses lose between 20-40% of their customers every year. And while it may be normal to have some of your audience lose interest in your brand (the average email list declines 25% each year).
When you retain your current customers as loyal buyers, this helps you to lower your customer churn rate. Customer churn is when existing customers stop doing business with you. After all, what's the point of getting new customers if they don't stay for the long run.
Today I'm going to run through six simple ways to get more returning customers to your eCommerce store.
1. Create Win-Back Email Marketing Campaigns
A Winback Email Marketing Campaign is essentially recapturing those customers who bought from you once and left. Or, in the case of software, people who used your service but left.
When you are crafting your win-back email, it's important to say good goodbye, but with a little gift. Add a special discount or deal to your email. Try not to rinse and repeat a deal you've been using regularly on your website. It has to be something big enough to grab your customer's attention. After all, they might have been ignoring your previous emails and marketing effort.

2. Improve Your Customer Service
Another great way to get customers to return to your eCommerce store is by providing great customer service. Like it or not, the experience customers have with you determines if they'll buy from you or buy even more.
Dimensional Research found that 52% of consumers say they have made an additional purchase from a company after a positive customer service experience. Not to mention that American Express found that one-third of consumers say they would consider switching companies after just one instance of bad customer service.
Customer service doesn't just start and stop in your online store's chat or email. It's expected throughout every online platform that you're active on, including social media; that's why 44% more people think that a brand's conversations (including direct messaging or in response to a comment posted) are more persuasive than what a brand's advertising ads.

3. Reward Customers for Loyalty with Discounts
You can also reward customers for returning to your eCommerce store by tempting them to shop with exclusive discounts and deals. You can do this by sharing your discount or deals via email or social media, or you can create a customer loyalty program to manage and maintain customer retention better.
There are several reasons a loyalty program will do well to keep customers coming back to your eCommerce store. The most apparent benefit is seeing more repeat purchases since customers can get gifts or rewards as incentives.
Loyalty programs tap into your customer base and offer incentives when customers spend more money in a single transaction. For more on this, check out Maximize Your Customer Loyalty Strategy by Keeping Your Rewards Program on Track.

4. Share Customer Reviews & UGC
User-Generated Content is content created freely by customers who love your products.
Customer reviews and UGC have a crucial impact on your sales as well as enticing returning customers. You're sharing what real customers have to say about your brand and why others should love shopping with you as well.
Around 86% of millennials believe that user-generated content (also known as UGC) is a good indicator of a brand or product's quality. The more your followers see others enjoying your products more likely they'd like to enjoy the same experience.
You can reshare UGC that you've selected from followers who have tagged you or used your branded hashtag. You can also add shoppable social commerce features to make their shopping experience seamless, for example:
Tumblr media
5. Retargeting Facebook & Instagram Ads
One of the best ways to get returning customers back to your eCommerce store is with the help of retargeting ads on Instagram and Facebook.
This type of marketing is particularly effective because the platform uses very specific targeting and tracking data. That means you can determine who sees what based on either their tracking, purchase, or product browsing history. You can create retargeting ads through Facebook's ad manager by adding a tracking pixel and setting it to track:
Visits to your add-to-cart page
Add-to-cart button clicks
Visits to your purchase/thank you pages.

Referral programs help you retain your current customers, but it also helps you gain new customers as well simultaneously. Customers acquired through referrals have a 37% higher retention rate, and 81% of consumers are more likely to engage with brands that have reward programs.
With a good referral program, you can boost sales, maintain a steady flow of customers. A referral program is different from an affiliate program.
A Referral Promotion allows your customers or fans to earn a reward in exchange for referring their friends to sign up or complete an action for your business. Get the ball rolling with a referral marketing campaign for the holidays.

Congratulations, KAY! You’ve been accepted for the role of HELENUS. Admin Rogue: I will be honest and say I must have read this app six times since we got it, minimum. There was something about your words that made me want to live in them forever, to tell Hugo all my secrets and let him tell me his. Hugo is so easy to turn saintly or push toward martyrdom, and your Hugo is a good person with all his flaws on display, humanity shining forth so clearly from him that he breaks my heart. He reminds us that sometimes God’s will brings down the crusades; he understands peace the same as he has made war, and Hugo knows the sanctity of blood in how he cannot wash it from his hands. I think I fell a little in love with him in this app, in spite of his Jimmy Buffet obsession, and that’s when I knew we couldn’t go another day without him! Please read over the checklist and send in your blog within 24 hours.
WELCOME TO THE MOB.
OUT OF CHARACTER
Alias | Obiwan Kaynobi
Age | 25
Preferred Pronouns | She/her
Activity Level | I feel like I’m active on the dash at least twice a week, and if I’m not posting replies I’m able to lurk the dash on mobile and plot on discord. But, with the quarantine and finally getting into a rhythm, I think I’ll be able to get on the dash more often!
Timezone | The Twilight Zone jk it’s PST now!
Triggers | REMOVED
How did you find the rp?  | One day Pandora showed up in my brain and I couldn’t get rid of her. Now Hugo also lives there with his Catholic guilt and honestly it’s a nightmare.
Current/Past RP Accounts | Here’s Panda’s blog!
IN CHARACTER
Character | Helenus, Hugo Kim. Hu-go, (German); meaning mind. Kim, (Korean); meaning gold, iron.
What drew you to this character? | Honestly, the thing that struck me about Hugo was that he’s the guiding light for so many people - and it’s ironic. He’s the prophet of the people, telling them each Sunday to do well, to be good and then he turns around and commands the other Capulet soldiers to harm others. And honestly, I think there are times that Hugo questions the good word. His hands are stained with blood and it doesn’t matter how many confessions he sits through because they’ll be stained red forever.
I also love that despite his affiliation with the Capulets, he does hold sermons on Sundays. Religion is the one thing that he has left of his parents - his mother - and Cosimo can pry that from his cold, dead hands. There’s a sort of natural confidence Hugo exudes when preaching and it spills over into his missions. In his bio it says, “They flock and he guides them, a SHEPHERD to Cosimo Capulet’s people.” He’s someone that people will listen to regardless of whether he’s leading the mission or not.
But, the one thing that really stood out to me with Hugo is his devotion. Whether it’s to his mother, God, Halcyon, he’s 100% devoted no matter what. He puts the time needed to do a job well done and I think that’s something most people look over with Hugo. There is no person more devoted to the morals he’s bound to than him. It’s something that makes him stand out from the rest of the gang members.
What is a future plot idea you have in mind for the character? |
a. Forgive me, Father, for I have sinned. The Cathedral is technically Capulet territory, but Lawernce wandered in one night and let every sin fall from his lips, tethering the two of them together whether the liked it or not. This encounter is something that can and will tear Hugo apart. He’s bound to both the church and the Capulets - neither of which he ever planned on crossing. Watching him struggle between his faiths is something I would love to see happen on the dash.
b. Sister Saint Monica, you’ve got me on my knees. Halcyon, his personal angel sent from Cosimo. She’s his guiding light, his angel of mercy, the one he’ll pray to each night - and I would love to see how far he’s willing to go for her. How much blood will he spill in order to feed the person he sees as a God? And of course, how will that guilt manifest after he’s done it? How often will he find himself on the bathroom floor, shaking and sobbing from the faces that haunt his dreams and the souls that claw at his throat all for the sake of Halcyon?
c. Bathe me in holy water and erase my sins. Killing his own brother is something that Hugo has yet to forgive himself for. The memory of his parents on the floor, the gun in his hand, the sounds coming from his mouth after he pulled the trigger play on repeat in his mind daily. How does he deal with the constant onslaught of this? Does he find himself crying in the confessional over what he’s done or does he simply let the memory play out and avoid thinking about it? It’d also be interesting if another character knew what he did and used it as leverage over him.
Are you comfortable with killing off your character? | As long as he gets to marry Brat first, feel free to kill him. That can be the first and last thing I do with him, please just let him marry them.
IN DEPTH
In-Character Interview:
What is your favorite place in Verona? | We recommend looking at the location page and reading it over to figure out where your character’s favorite place is – if it’s not their own house/room.
He’s positive that the woman across from him expects to hear the Cathedral. But, the stained glass and golden pews have long since turned sour to Hugo. Now, they remind him of blood and guns and the rush of guilt that burns in his throat like bile. He thinks of the theater, how he and Albert used to hide underneath the seats to sneak into a second showing. The library, once a place that he was able to roam without hesitation and devour any book he desired, now stings in his memory since it became off-limits. Finally, the corners of his lips quirk up. “Twelfth Night Museum holds a dear place in my heart. I can’t say much about the attendees who show up at night, but during the day it’s beautiful.”
What does your typical day look like?
Hugo pauses for a moment, mulling over the words before he speaks. He glances at the watch on his wrist, then his shoes, and finally meets the eye of the interviewer. The interview is for a profile on him, a puff piece to lighten the city when all it knows is death and destruction. “Well, it’s Saturday. I host evening mass then head over to Phoenix and Turtle for the bread donation. My days are typically the same, depending on whether or not the farmers market is here.” He graces her with another smile, but it doesn’t reach his eyes. What he leaves out is that his nights are filled with the scent of gun powder and his fingers brushing eyelids shut, a prayer whispered under his breath.
What has been your biggest mistake thus far?
How was he supposed to pick just one mistake? There had been plenty of missteps through the years that would certainly be labeled the worst. The stolen liquor from the bodega, the moans in the backseat of a car, the night he killed Albert. Far too many things have been deemed his biggest mistake. “Even I’m allowed to have secrets.” Hugo glances out the window and watches the couples walk by. They’ll have to try harder than this to get him to reveal what it is. “That one is between me and myself.”
What has been the most difficult task asked of you?
His gut reaction is to say preaching his sermon. The words of the good book that fall from his lips and into the ears of the parish are nothing but lies - but now was not the time nor place to discuss that matter. “There are times I’m asked to stop helping those in need. I have to respect their wishes, but it’s not in my nature to walk away from those who need help.” He thinks of the dying who were left to bleed after he shot at them, of the unfortunate souls who end up injured by falling into debt with them, of the addicts who pump their veins with Theo’s latest experiment and can’t escape the warmth the drug gives them. Ignoring these souls only to have them haunt him later is the most difficult thing he’s done.
What are your thoughts on the war between the Capulets and the Montagues?
He nearly chokes as he takes a sip from the mug. As the interview continued, it seemed as if the questions were diving deeper and deeper into unsafe territory. Perhaps it would’ve been smart to let one of the emissaries approve the list of questions before he arrived. “As a man of God, I can only hope that no more bloodshed happens.” His lips press into a thin line. “Hasn’t our city seen enough?” His answer is honest, one that he never dared utter before now. The war his boss wages against the Montagues is one that he finds despicable. So much has been lost in the names of each family and yet, they continue to take more and more and more.
Extras: Bold of you to assume I don’t have any extras. Here is his mockblog, a Pinterest board, and as always, let me sprinkle some hcs here:
Hugo’s very into the arts. His favorite artist is M.C. Escher.
This man is not straight. Local disaster bi preacher is at your service.
There’s a photo of his parents tucked into his wallet so he’s able to carry them everywhere.
He does yoga whenever he gets the chance.
Hugo’s a huge Jimmy Buffet fan, I’m sorry but it’s true.
He’s also a huge Florence and The Machine fan so it balances out.
More often than not, there’s a bottle of cheap scotch in his chambers in the Cathedral. It’s hidden inside of a hollowed-out Bible.

Bonjour et bienvenue! Paris welcomes you, our Muse, Annabelle Walker! May we say, you’re the spitting image of Evan Rachel Wood! Please make your presence known within 24 hours, and do have a look at our checklist before setting out into the city on your own.                                                                          À bientôt!
MUN
Name/Alias: katie, princessa
Preferred Pronouns: she/her
Age: 22
Timezone: EST! y'all be knowing what i’m about
MUSE
Chosen Skeleton: The Muse
Muse Name: Annabelle Walker
Muse Age: 30
Chosen FC: Evan Rachel Wood
Muse Occupation: Actress and model
Muse Affiliation & Frequent Haunts: No affiliation. She has never spent much time in Montparnasse, but is eager to begin exploring. The bohemian lifestyle of that side of the Seine appeals to her, but that may only be because it is new and shiny and different from what she knows. She currently resides still in the Hotel Montmartre, as that is where she has always stayed when visiting Paris in the past for work. She can frequently be found at the Hotel, La Gavroche, and the street markets.
Direct from Le Petit Journal: An American in Paris at last, Mademoiselle Annabelle Walker seems to have permanently relocated to our humble city of light. It appears that pieces of her have always been here, her name lit up on the theatre marquee, her face gracing billboards and newspapers, songs about her likeness sung from jazz clubs on every street – but aren’t we ever so lucky to have her live and in person?
BIOGRAPHY
When one is born into wealth and prominence, values often differ from those who are not. Annabelle was always taught that above all, the most wonderful thing she could ever hope to be was a beautiful fool. That was what men wanted, someone to grace their arms and keep their perfectly polished mouths closed. She was pulled from school at age 10, once she learned to read and write, and her mother began shuffling her to auditions and portrait sittings.
Her days were spent sitting in front of a mirror, dragging a brush through long golden curls, dissecting everything about her appearance and determining how to make improvements. When she was not busy reinventing herself, she would read over scripts, memorize movements and lines, to try and become exactly what was expected of her in order to successfully perform at auditions and calls. She believed that once she was successful she would feel less empty, less like she had something to prove.
Her big break came at age 14, when she was offered a starring role in a major film. Her face graced the cover of every magazine, every newspaper, every billboard in Hollywood. She was a star, and still on the rise. Still, though, she was empty. Something was missing. At 15, she received a proposal from a prominent film director, and at the advisory of her mother, she accepted. When the wedding day came, she stood in her white gown in front of the mirror, prepared to walk down the aisle – but she simply could not do it. Her life had never belonged to her, and the thought terrified her. Her mother, like a shadow, appeared behind her and reminded her that this was what she was meant for. To be a trophy, to be an accessory. So off she went down the aisle.
Her husband was a wonderful man, so it seemed. He encouraged her to write more, told her that she knew enough of what took place in front of the camera, in the spotlights, that she would know well enough what happened behind the curtain. He helped her write screenplays and scripts, spent long hours critiquing her work, pushing her to be better. Annabelle believed he was helping her – until he directed her films under his name. Though Annabelle was featured in the films, she received none of the credit for writing them. Each time, she told herself that it must have only been a mistake.
Their messy divorce four years after the wedding graced the front page of every newspaper in the city after she grew tired of allowing him to take credit for her work. Too afraid to show anyone her work anymore, she keeps it to herself. The screenplays that she writes pile up in a desk drawer of her home, never seen or touched by anyone else for fear of her work being stolen or discredited.
While she still writes, she works now only as an actress and model. Paris promised her new opportunities, fresh roles, and a more accepting culture of women who want to break away from restrictive roles. She is growing stronger each day, learning to be her own woman. Yearning to change the world. Everyone knows her name, but soon they will know her work, as well.
POTENTIAL PLOTS/CONNECTIONS
The Reporter: Annabelle has read the journal religiously on each of her visits to Paris. Bhari’s column has always sparked her interest, and she is eager to know more about the man behind the witty words and striking intellect. She has never met him, but has beautiful daydreams about how well they might get along should their paths ever cross. She’s heard he’s quite handsome…
The Critic: Once upon a time, they had a history. Their arrangement was mutually beneficial, she brought him into her circle in exchange for glowing reviews of her pictures. Things became personal, though, and they should have known better than to mix business with pleasure. Their split was less than amicable, and now that she has relocated to Paris, she tries her best to avoid running into him.

Exclusive Tips Only You Must Know on How to Choose a Home Inspector
You read and see tips and mysteries on the most proficient method to pick a decent, dependable home monitor that will do the work for you. Truth be told, requiring a home investigation is essential whether you are selling or purchasing a property since it will permit you to look past what your eyes can see. Through home examination, you can identify issues and tricky condition that needs your consideration. Lamentably, there are many structure inspectors in the market that are truly after the cash and have no worry for the customer. They would give out proposals that are not finished and in some cases even counterfeit so to bring in simple cash. These kind of inspectors are not experts and ought to be restricted.
All in all, then, at that point, how then, at that point do you pick a home controller that is dependable and can be trusted?
1. Get references from companions, families or business partners who you trust and have as of late sold or purchased a house themselves. The individual they suggest most likely methods he is the awesome they have demonstrated it.
2. You can likewise check reference sites like angielist.com or servicemagic.com.
3. You can likewise request a real estate professional some from their favored inspectors.
4. You can likewise look at exchange affiliation sites like the Worldwide Relationship of Affirmed Home Inspectors, Public Relationship of Home Inspectors, and the American Culture of Home Inspectors (ASHI). They have a rundown of inspectors who are qualified and have passed the Guidelines of Training and Code of Morals.
You need to lead a meeting among your imminent inspectors prior to employing.
The meeting is somewhat of an "examination" on your part so you need to pose the right and important inquiries. Note that inspectors ought to likewise be gracious and affable during the meeting. The reviewer ought to have the option to give out other client references that you can call. Pick a home monitor ensured with Mistake and Exclusion Inclusion or the Expert Responsibility Protection which is a protection inclusion that shields them from bearing the full expense against a carelessness guarantee because of a blunder or oversight on their part. Click here : Wilmington Home Inspectors
Ensure that the controller can show you a past account review report (not an agenda) from his past customers that is compact and complete with pictures. Pick a home reviewer who is proficient, experienced and guaranteed. Avoid home inspectors who guarantee they never committed an error and the "expedient" ones who guarantee you that their work should be possible in only thirty minutes. This is basically in light of the fact that regardless of whether you have a little house, thirty minutes to investigate is rarely enough.
Indeed, picking a home assessor to finish your home review can be overpowering and tedious. Be that as it may, it is something you need to do in light of the fact that once you recruit somebody who can't convey quality work, you will confront erroneous and deficient detailing. Furthermore, their administration won't merit the value you wind up paying. Follow these select tips and you won't ever be heartbroken!
Champia Land Reviews gives business and private home examinations in the Atlanta, GA, Tampa,FL and Orlando, FL regions with ASHI confirmed home inspectors. Our ensured inspectors will convey total private reports inside 24 hours, with business examination reports returned inside 4 days.

Tumblr media

The return of retail stores: If you reopen will they come?
The news has been filled recently with images of angry protesters agitating for the “reopening” of local businesses. That’s now happening in many places around the country: Georgia, Texas, Florida, Colorado and numerous other states. Yet polls continue to indicate consumers remain nervous about COVID-19, raising the basic question: if you open it will they come?
Two-thirds won’t go into a retail clothing store. A recent survey from the Washington Post and University of Maryland found that while a majority of consumers (56%) are comfortable shopping in a grocery store, 67% aren’t comfortable with the idea of going into a retail clothing store and 78% don’t want to go into a restaurant for a sit-down meal.
Another survey from Fluent highlights consumer ambivalence about the pandemic. The company found that only 34% of respondents said they were comfortable with governors lifting stay-at-home restrictions. Yet another, seemingly contrary finding in the survey is that 60% of the audience is “calm and collected or neutral” about COVID-19, while 38% are “nervous or very nervous.”
Stores where consumers feel safe. This apparent contradiction suggests confusion and complicated feelings about resuming “normal” activities. People want to return to their familiar routines, including shopping, but are worried and lack a clear understanding of whether it’s actually safe to do so.
Survey data from First Insight revealed a hierarchy of store discomfort. These individuals were asked in which types of stores they would feel safe or very safe. Only grocery stores and drug stores cleared 50%:
Grocery stores — 54%
Drug stores — 50%
Big box retailers — 45%
Warehouse clubs — 43%
Local small businesses — 43%
Department stores — 37%
Shopping malls — 33%
Foot traffic tells a different story. But smartphone location data from a little over a week ago, when Georgia allowed the reopening of multiple business categories, showed more than 60,000 people flooded into the state from neighboring states — presumably to shop, get their haircut and eat in restaurants. Additionally, Shoe Carnival, which is in the process of reopening its US store locations, said that there was “brisk” foot traffic over its initial reopening weekend in Georgia.
Foursquare location data validate these findings and observations. The company said in a blog post, “Georgia began reopening non-essential businesses on Friday, April 24. Since then, visits to health and beauty services, gyms as well as restaurants have seen significant upticks. Notably, restaurant visitation rose the most in rural and suburban areas. There was some increase in foot traffic to dining rooms in urban areas, but visitation didn’t jump nearly as drastically.”
These data points indicate that despite survey findings suggesting majorities will avoid stores, there’s sufficient pent-up demand for offline experiences that large numbers of people may turn out for store reopenings. We really won’t know until several weeks pass what aggregate consumer behavior will look like. As the Foursquare post, suggests, I would speculate it’s going to vary widely by store category, demographics, region and even political affiliation. (This is all going to complicate brand communication to customers.)
No ‘return to normal’ anytime soon. Whether the Georgia data is predictive of national trends is unclear, but marketers should not mistake any initial burst of enthusiasm among shoppers for a “return to normal.” Indeed, there’s a risk of increased infections and mortality as more people move about and congregate in public places.
We’re in a new normal (or new abnormal), where e-commerce is going to play a much larger role in people’s lives. Whereas offline retail has been responsible for 90% of revenues in the last several years, the numbers are going to change. It’s only a question of how much.
More digital-first shoppers being created. A recent survey from SmarterHQ found that while nearly 37% of respondents said they would return to stores to shop for “non-essentials,” 26% would now shop primarily online (other respondents said they wouldn’t be shopping for non-essentials).
There are plenty of other surveys indicating e-commerce will continue to grow in many cases at the expense of stores, which are imposing new safety protocols and restrictions as they reopen. Best Buy for example will only allow shopping by appointment for the foreseeable future; Apple will require face masks and temperature checks. While these measures are for the safety of customers, they may create enough friction and inconvenience that consumers find going into stores not worth the effort.
Finally, Yotpo found in a survey focused on mobile and text messaging behaviors, that time spent on mobile devices has grown 30% post-pandemic. The company also discovered that 57% of consumers are shopping online more than before, and 65% prefer to do that shopping on smartphones rather than a PC or tablet. The smartphone is at the center of e-commerce going forward.
Why we care. J. Crew and Neiman Marcus just declared bankruptcy and JCPenney is expected to next week. Other traditional retailers will be accelerating closure of under-performing stores and not open new ones. Digital commerce will take center stage as stores partly take on supporting roles as showrooms, fulfillment centers and places to return unwanted products purchased online.
Make no mistake, people will go back into stores and maybe in large numbers over the next month. And retailers that can provide a well-run omnichannel experience still have advantages over pure-play digital commerce marketers. But we’re in a new, existential time for traditional retail. And it’s one that is likely to see the fundamental rules of commerce evolve and change irrevocably over the next 12 months.

Affiliate Marketing: A Comprehensive Guide to Success in 2020
Do you dream of escaping the 9-to-5 grind?
Do you want to earn money online from the beach, in your pajamas, and while you travel the world?
Or do you simply want to have the financial freedom to spend more time doing the things you love?
To most people, that lifestyle is a pipedream.
But, with the right knowledge and a strategic approach, it is possible.
There are plenty of legitimate ways to earn money online. You can start freelance writing, take online surveys, or look for graphic design work.
But those jobs trade time for money.
Affiliate marketing, however, is passive income, meaning it keeps earning you cash long after you’ve finished investing your time into it.
With affiliate marketing, you can invest time in creating useful, in-depth content and then earn a commission each time a customer makes a purchase.
Affiliate marketing is big business — more than 81% of businesses use affiliate marketing to promote their products, generating a total of $6.4 billion in sales in 2018.
By 2022, that number is projected to reach $8.2 billion.
Tumblr media
And, if you know what you’re doing, you can get your cut of that.
For example, Jim Harmer of Income School earned $147,000 in one year just by promoting Amazon products on his website.
Tumblr media
Paruyr Shahbazyan of Bookmaker Ratings generated more than $2 million in income through affiliate referrals.
So, how can you join the ranks of other affiliate marketers and earn more than just some extra cash on the side, but a real, legitimate income?
In this guide, we’ll show you.
This comprehensive resource will cover it all (click to navigate):
What is affiliate marketing?
How does affiliate marketing work?
How to become a successful affiliate marketer in 2020
What are the best affiliate marketing programs in 2020?

Final thoughts
If you are just getting started with affiliate marketing, let’s start at the beginning.
What is Affiliate Marketing?
Affiliate marketing is a business model in which a person earns a commission by promoting another business’s products or services.
For example, if I join SEMRush’s affiliate program then create a guide that describes how it’s a fantastic SEO tool and how you can use it to grow your business, I can add affiliate links within that content. If you were to click on those links and create an SEMrush account as a result, I would get a small portion of the money you spend.
It is a win-win for both the marketer and the company — SEMrush doesn’t have to do the actual marketing, and I don’t have to create products, store stock, or deal with customer service issues.
But, is affiliate marketing a viable business in 2020?
Yes, 100%.
In fact, Statista found that affiliate marketing spending has increased by nearly 2 billion dollars in the past five years — and spending could reach $8.2 million by 2022.
This graphic illustrates how the affiliate process works — including how it can help you make money online.
Tumblr media
Jason Stone, also known as Millionaire Mentor, generated $7 million in affiliate sales in less than two years.
How did he do it?
Tumblr media
He did it by creating a loyal following on social media, posting consistent content, and sharing motivational quotes for other entrepreneurs who were working to build a successful business.
He wasn’t a celebrity, he didn’t invest a ton of money in ads, or even have his own product to sell.
What he did have was a determination to succeed and the ability to spot an opportunity in the then-new social media site Instagram. Over time, he became an influencer and earned quite a bit of money — both for himself and the companies he promoted.
Not everyone who becomes an affiliate marketer will make $7 million, but you can create a reliable source of passive income if you create authentic, useful content, and build a real relationship with your audience.
Can you get started in affiliate marketing with no money?
Yes, you can get started by investing time to create valuable content and sharing it via social media or other free channels.
However, if you want to be wildly successful as an affiliate marketer, you will eventually need to invest money in paid ads, analytics tools, web hosting, and more.
Like most businesses, what you get out of affiliate marketing will be based on the work you are willing to put into it.
How Does Affiliate Marketing Work?
In general, affiliate marketing is about connecting buyers with a product or service creator — and taking a piece of the pie. This guide Affiliate Guide for Beginners will give you an indepth look, however we will cover the basics below.
The exact process you’ll use in your affiliate marketing business will depend on your business model (for example, whether you use an affiliate marketing platform like ShareaSale or work directly with SaaS companies like Shopify) and the type of content you create.
However, the nuts and bolts will be the same no matter what model you use.
There are four main players when it comes to affiliate marketing:
Product or service creators: This is the company that creates the item or service to be sold. For example, sites like BlueHost or MailChimp.
Affiliate marketer: The person who promotes the item to their audience — ideally you!
Affiliate platform: This is the platform that manages the relationship between the affiliate marketer and product creator — not all affiliate marketers use a platform, but many beginners find them easier to navigate than direct relationships with advertisers. (And many established affiliates still use them!)
The buyer: The person who purchases the product after being convinced by the affiliate marketer. They are your audience.
Here are the general steps involved in the affiliate marketing process:
The affiliate marketer (that’s you!) creates content (blog post, video, infographic, etc.) that promotes the product or service creator’s product or service.
The affiliate marketer shares their content and uses a unique URL or code that tracks the number of purchases that result from the content. In many cases, it is a few numbers added on to the end of a URL and it may include “ref” for referral, like this: https://bit.ly/2VPtmFG
When a buyer makes a purchase using your unique link, you earn a small commission. Many platforms will install a cookie on users’ browsers and track if they make a purchase in the days or weeks to come — but cookie links vary widely. Amazon’s cookies, for example, only lasts 24 hours.
Affiliate sites are everywhere; you may not even realize how often you interact with them. For example, this hosting review website earns a commission for each person that purchases a hosting plan after reading their content.
Note the Disclosure listed just below the hero image:
Tumblr media
How is affiliate marketing different from influencer marketing?
They are pretty similar models — and some affiliate marketers may also be influencers. In general, influencers are paid upfront for access to their audience, while affiliates are only paid when someone makes a purchase. Both models can be an effective way for brands to promote their products.
How Do Affiliate Marketers Get Paid?
Affiliate marketers get paid when one of their site visitors completes a pre-determined action — which might be making a purchase, signing up for a trial, or clicking through to a website.
The exact method of payment will depend on the platform or business, but the commission is generally calculated in one of three ways:
Pay per sale: This is the standard structure for sites like Amazon Affiliates. The merchant pays the affiliate a percentage of the sales price of the product when the buyer uses the affiliate’s unique code or link.
Pay per lead: Affiliate marketer persuades a consumer to visit a site and perform a specific task (such as completing a form, downloading an app, etc.) and is paid per user who completes the task.
Pay per click: Affiliate marketer persuades a consumer to visit the business’s website and earns a small amount, usually a few cents, per website visit.
Tumblr media
In most cases, sites or platforms will pay out via electronic payment methods like PayPal, while some might send physical checks.
You can expect there to be some restriction on payouts — some platforms won’t pay out until your affiliate commission reaches a certain amount, for example, $50, or will only pay out after a specific time period.
How much can I expect to make as an affiliate marketer in 2020?
The reality is, there is no way to predict how much you will make as an affiliate marketer.
The amount of income you earn will vary based on how much work you are willing to put into your business, your niche, the affiliate platform you chose to work with — and whether you are willing to treat it like an actual business.
For every $7 million affiliate marketer, there are likely a dozen so-called affiliate marketers who are making nothing — because they aren’t willing to put in the hard work necessary to grow their business.
In general, however, an affiliate marketer who puts in the work to create valuable content and drives a medium level of traffic can expect to make between $500 a month and $1,000 a day.
Just remember, you won’t hit seven figures overnight.
How to Become a Successful Affiliate Marketer in 2020
Affiliate marketing can help you break out of the boring 9-5 working lifestyle and earn a stable living from your couch, the beach, or even while traveling.
Getting started is the easy part, but being successful takes a lot of work.
The strategies that affiliate marketers used to grow their business five years ago might not be as effective today. Niches that were profitable a few years ago may not be as lucrative today — and newer niches have opened up, such as SaaS (service as a software).
If you are interested in becoming a successful affiliate marketer in 2020, here is what you need to know.
Strategy #1: Choose the Right Niche
A niche is a specific topic or several closely related topics that your site or content will focus on. Will you promote computers, fashion, sports products, software systems, or something else?
The most lucrative affiliate categories tend to be evergreen and related to items we need to survive, which we often refer to as ” Get Laid, Paid, and Live Forever”:
Health
Wealth
Dating and romance
Globally, the wellness industry is worth more than $4.5 trillion, which includes smaller niches such as personal beauty, wellness tourism, and weightloss.
Tumblr media
The wealth management industry currently manages more than $75 trillion dollars in assets — making it an enormous industry.
The online dating and matchmaking industry is expected to be worth nearly $3.2 billion by 2021.
Here’s the catch — while those markets are lucrative, they are too broad for most sites to target effectively.
“Wealth management” could mean anything from how to manage your million dollar 401K to how to save money by stacking coupons so you can pay off your debt.
Before launching your affiliate site, settle on just one main topic or several closely related topics that you can cover deeply.
Let’s look at an example.
Choose FI is a blog and podcast founded by Jonathan Mendonsa and Brad Barrett.
Their audience is people who are interested in living frugal lives to pursue financial independence and, in some cases, retire early.
They use several monetization methods, including selling an ebook and the Amazon Affiliate program.
Tumblr media
They don’t try to cover every single topic related to being frugal or wealth management — they focus on a specific portion of the financial market.
When considering niches, look for topics you are familiar with and audiences you relate to — this makes it easier for you to create valuable content because they are topics you care about.
Look for a topic with depth — this will give you more topics to write about. Creating a blog about how to stack coupons at CVS is too limited — while creating a blog about how to make the most out of using coupons in general leaves plenty of topics to explore.
Research your niche — ideally, a good niche market will have medium to a high level of interest, a solid amount of money being spent online, and low levels of competition from other marketers.
Want to find the most profitable niche for your affiliate business? Check out The Ultimate Guide to Finding Your Profitable Niche.
Strategy #2: Research Your Audience
Once you’ve settled on your niche, you need to get to know your audience. A big mistake newbie affiliate marketers make is assuming that everyone else is just like them.
The only way you can deliver the content they want and need is to get a deeper understanding of who they are and the questions they have.
Start by using Google Trends to search for your topic.
Say you want to start a photography website that targets serious photographers. Searching photography tips shows a pretty solid interest in the topic over the last few years, though it has been decreasing slightly in the last 12 months.
Tumblr media
Scroll down a bit in Google trends, and you will see related topics:
Tumblr media
Boudoir photography tips and still life photography are both getting a ton of searches — which means those are good topics to cover in a blog about photography.
Next, take a look at the competition.
SEMrush’s competitive research tool will provide you with a ton of information about your competitor’s most popular posts, total market trends, SEO strategies they are using — and what topics they aren’t covering, so you can fill those gaps.
Tumblr media
Join a few communities where your audience hangs out — Facebook groups and subReddits are both easy ways to find the type of people you will be targeting and get insight into what types of questions and concerns they have.
Use Google Forms or SurveyMonkey to ask your audience about their frustration, pain points, and topics they would love more information about.
Make sure to be transparent about the purpose of the survey, and offer those who fill out your survey a chance to win a gift card, discount, or another prize.
Strategy #3: Choose a Platform to Share Your Content
Where will you share your content? A blog, YouTube channel, podcast, social media? Most affiliate marketers use a blog — but that isn’t the only place you can share content. Email newsletters, social media sites like Instagram, and video platforms like YouTube are all options.
Most effective affiliate marketers use a mix of platforms to share their content, like theSkimm, which started as an email list, now promotes their affiliate links through their website, social media accounts, a podcast, and an app.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Most affiliate marketers start with a blog, but use whichever medium makes the most sense for your audience, niche, and content.
Strategy #4: Choose The Right Affiliate Program
You understand who your audience is, and have chosen a platform to reach them — but how do you actually make money?
It is time to choose your affiliate program — which is the company or platform that pays you to promote their products.
The challenge is there are hundreds of different affiliate programs; and while many are legit, some are not.
Most affiliates usually either use a retail affiliate platform like Amazon or a company like Share a Sale, which connects affiliate marketers to companies with products to promote.
When comparing platforms, look for the following features:
Payouts: How often do they pay, how much do they pay, and what method of payment do they use? If they only pay in bitcoin every six months, you might find it hard to get paid.
Resources: Does the platform or company offer support for affiliate marketers? Do they provide marketing materials, etc.? These resources can make it much easier to produce high-quality content.
Reputation: Is it a reputable company that has been around for a while? Do they have a policy against spam? Do they review advertisers to ensure their products are high-quality?
I’ll review the most popular affiliate platforms in the next section. To head straight there, you can click here.
Strategy #5: Create Valuable Content
Who would you trust when making a purchase — someone who is established in their field, provides honest, thorough information — or someone who raves about how ‘perfect’ a product is in an effort to make a quick buck?
The key to being successful as an affiliate marketer is building trust with your audience.
And the best way to build trust is by providing honest, valuable content.
Don’t just rave about the benefits of a product or service. There is no one perfect product for every user. Instead, give your audience all the information they need to make a decision — both pros and cons.
Say you are running a hosting company affiliate website — there are hundreds of different hosting companies with different plans, security features, and add ons.
But there are also hundreds of different customers. Some sites might do quite well with a budget hosting provider like GoDaddy because they just need a basic plan, while an international ecommerce company needs a dedicated server from a much larger hosting company.
Be thorough — research the topic to find out what questions people have by searching your topic in Google and looking for the “people also ask” questions.
Sticking to the hosting website example above, I searched “how to find the best host for WordPress” and found these other, related, questions to address in my content:
Tumblr media
Research your competition — what type of content are they creating? How can you create content that is better, more thorough, or easier to read?
Use Answer the Public to find related questions people are asking and then address those topics in your content.
For example, Related questions people are asking include how to install wordpress hosting, how to transfer wordpress hosting, and which is the cheapest wordpress hosting.
Tumblr media
A content gap analysis may also be instrumental in helping uncover topics that your competition currently isn’t covering — and give you access to a wider audience who is asking those questions.
Strategy #6: Don’t Forget to Include a Disclosure
If you’ve been on the internet for more than a few days, you’ve likely seen something like this on some of your favorite websites:
Tumblr media
This is called a disclosure — and if you are an affiliate marketer, this is a must-have.
It might seem annoying, but there are several reasons why having a disclosure is so important.
First, it improves transparency — your site visitors are more likely to trust you when you are straight forward about how you are monetizing your site.
More importantly, disclosures are required by US federal regulations and by Europe’s GDPR.
What Are the Best Affiliate Marketing Programs in 2020?
We touched on choosing an affiliate program in the previous section, but we weren’t able to dive deep into the best affiliate marketing programs and how to compare them. In this section, I am going to list a few of the most reliable (and legitimate!) affiliate marketing programs in 2020.
Illustrate List of the best affiliate programs: Share a Sale, ClickBank, JVZOO, Amazon Associates, eBay Partner Network
These are all programs that I personally know to be legitimate — and tend to be the best fit for the vast majority of affiliate marketers.
If you want a more in-depth look into the most reliable affiliate marketing programs, check out our guide to “21 Of The Best Affiliate Programs To Find High Quality Products For Your Website”
Best Affiliate Marketing Programs #1: Share a Sale
Share a Sale is a Chicago-based affiliate marketing network that has been around since 2000, so you know it isn’t going anywhere.
Tumblr media
They work with more than 4,000 different advertisers, including big names like MLB Shop, Jillian Micheals, and Gymboree. Commission rates vary by advertiser, but average around 8% to 20%, which is pretty solid.
They cover more than 40 major categories, including business, art, fashion, electronics, and online dating services. The interface can be a bit confusing at times, but it is one of the largest and most reliable affiliate platforms in 2020.
Who this affiliate program is best for:
Share a Sale is a solid choice for new or established affiliate marketers, especially those looking to expand beyond Amazon.
Best Affiliate Marketing Programs #2: ClickBank
Another one of the older — and more reliable — affiliate marketing platforms is ClickBank. They are the 87th largest Internet retailer in North American and have advertisers in nearly any industry you can think of.
The application process to become an affiliate is free and easy, which is ideal for beginners. However, that also means you need to vet products carefully for quality before promoting — there are definitely a few duds.
Tumblr media
The physical products are a bit limited, but they do have advertisers in a huge range of niches, including fiction, games, languages, mobile, self-help, spirituality, sports, and travel.
Each product also has a “Gravity Score,” which tells you how many people are promoting the product. A high gravity score is a good indicator of quality — but it also means there is more competition.
Tumblr media
The easy application process makes ClickBank an ideal platform for those just getting started — just make sure to research products before promoting.
Who this affiliate program is best for:
ClickBank affiliate marketing platform is an ideal for beginner or advanced affiliate marketers.
Best Affiliate Marketing Programs #3: JVZOO
JVZOO is one of the fastest-growing affiliate marketing platforms on the web with more than 800,000 active affiliates. Advertisers include big names you will recognize, including PayPal, AWeber, Slack, and Stripe.

Affiliate application is free and they automate payments so you’ll never have to worry about not getting paid for your work. But, you will have to gain approval from each company before you start promoting, which can be a bit of a hassle.
They offer products in dozens of niches and sub-niches but mostly focus on internet marketing and SaaS products.
JVZoo also has a ton of product launches, which can be very lucrative for affiliate marketers. Just make sure you check out the products before you start marketing — despite their zero-spam policy, there are definitely some less than stellar products on their marketplace.
They also offer JVZoo Academy, which provides new affiliate marketers with tons of tools and advanced training.
Who this affiliate program is best for:
JVZoo is an ideal marketplace for new or advanced affiliate marketers who focus on tech, business, or digital marketing in general.
Best Affiliate Marketing Programs #4: Amazon Associates
When it comes to affiliate marketing, Amazon is a major player. They control more than half of the online sales market and have a popular, easy to use affiliate program called Amazon Affiliates.
It is easy to use, and Amazon sells more than a million different physical products in a wide range of categories, from kitchen gadgets and toys to fashion and tools.
Tumblr media
Commission rates are relatively low, with their highest commissions topping out at 10%. Their cookies last 24 hours, which means you can earn a commission for just about any item people purchase within a day of clicking your link. (Which is shorter than some other platforms.)
Signing up for Amazon Associates is free and easy, but make sure you pay attention to their terms and conditions. They can be a bit confusing, but violating them can get you banned from the platform.
Amazon Associates also get access to several detailed reports so you can easily see what items are selling well and which aren’t so you can adjust your marketing strategies.
Who this affiliate program is best for:
Amazon Associates is really an ideal platform for any affiliate marketer who is promoting physical products. Companies that focus on software and tools can use Amazon as a secondary source of income, while newbies will be pleased with the wide range of physical products.
Best Affiliate Marketing Programs #5: eBay Partner Network
eBay is one of the oldest and most popular ecommerce stores on the internet in 2020. Unlike most platforms that sell for a fixed price, eBay customers can also bid on items.
Tumblr media

eBay’s commission rate works a bit differently — instead of getting a portion of the sale prices, eBay partners earn between 50% and 70% of the fees eBay charges the sellers. You can also earn more if you generate a sale from a “new or reactivated buyer” who hasn’t shopped on eBay in the last 12 months.
Signing up is free and easy, making it an ideal program for affiliate marketers who are just getting started.
Who this affiliate program is best for:
New affiliates or those in super specific niches, such as vintage or hard to find items.
Best Affiliate Marketing Programs #6: Single Company Affiliate Programs
Many affiliate marketers choose to use an affiliate marketing platform, such as Amazon Associates, to gain access to a wide range of products.
However, many software tools and SaaS companies also offer direct affiliate marketing programs, including ecommerce platforms, courses, marketing tools, and other SaaS companies.
Because there is no middle man, the commission rates for promoting individual companies tend to be much higher. Conversion rates, however, can vary and competition may be high.
For example, with Shopify’s affiliate program, you can earn between $58 and $2,000 per referral, depending on what type of program your referrals sign up for.
Tumblr media
You also get access to support and a dedicated Affiliate Manager, educational content, and discounts on a variety of Shopify tools.
These programs are often easy to use and can be a simple way to generate more income for tools you already use and love.
A few popular tools that offer their own affiliate programs include:
SEMrush
MailChimp
FreshBooks
Bluehost
GoDaddy
ConvertKit
WordStream
MarketMuse
Active Campaign
Oberlo
Clickfunnels
Protip: You can use more than one type of affiliate program. For example, you might use Amazon to promote physical products, but also use an affiliate program from your favorite SEO software or hosting company.

Best Practices for Growth: How to Build Your Affiliate Marketing Business from the Ground Up
So, you pick a product, build a website, and start throwing up content.
You might be thinking this affiliate marketing thing is pretty easy.
It’s not.
The reality is this: If you aren’t willing to put in a lot of hard work, you will likely fail at affiliate marketing.
I don’t say that to dissuade you — I just want you to be realistic about how much effort it takes to build a successful affiliate marketing site. And that means being realistic about the mistakes most affiliate marketers make.
Affiliate marketing isn’t a get rich quick scheme — you need time, dedication, and a detailed strategy for capturing the attention of your target market.
Of course, I can’t help you with the dedication part, but I can show you how to build a marketing strategy for your affiliate marketing site.
Affiliate Marketing Best Practice #1: Create a Content Marketing Plan for Your Affiliate Business
Content marketing is a strategy that focuses on creating, publishing, and promoting detailed content related to your topic. Blogging, ebooks, and email campaigns can all be considered part of your content marketing strategy.
Tumblr media
Why is content marketing important?
First, it helps establish you as an expert in your field. When you share your knowledge, people begin to trust you — and that is the first, crucial, step in creating a successful affiliate marketing website.
Content is also incredibly effective — it earns three times more leads than paid search advertising. Year-over-year, websites that focus on content marketing earn nearly 8X the traffic of sites that don’t.
Here’s how to create a content marketing plan:
Step 1: Define Your Goals
Don’t waste your time creating content without a purpose. Set goals for each piece of content — and also for every quarter of the year.
For example, if you are just getting started, you might spend Q1 of the year writing thought-leadership posts that cover the basics of your industry to establish trust. In Q2, you might start focusing on SaaS tools you use and start creating content to promote those.
Setting goals will prevent you from getting overwhelmed — when you can write on any topic it can be challenging to stay focused.
Step 2: Research Topics
Before you start creating content, take the time to understand what type of content is already out there and how it is ranking. MarketMuse is a fantastic tool that will show you who you are competing about and topics those sites aren’t covering.
Here’s a look at MarketMuse’s Compete tab – the top section lists the top 19 search results for “affiliate marketing,” while the red boxes indicate topics each piece doesn’t cover.
I can see that social media and search engines are not covered often — adding those to my piece will likely help me rank better.
Tumblr media
Look for easy wins — topics that your top competitors don’t cover at all or don’t cover well. If they wrote a 5,000-page guide to buying the right shoes, can you create a 10,000-word guide?
Just make sure there is actually enough information to justify that level of content — don’t write just to write.
Step 3: Decide on What Format of Content To Publish
Blogs, video, social media, ebooks, white papers — there are dozens of different formats of content. Which one is right for your affiliate site?
Well, it’s not up to you (at least not entirely)— it’s up to your audience.
Blog posts have been a content marketing mainstay for years, but don’t forget video and even audio formats, such as podcasts.
YouTube, for example, gets more than a billion users a month — which is almost one-third of all internet users. According to OptinMonster, marketers who use video earn 66% more qualified leads each year.
Webinars are another medium to drive qualified traffic — with most businesses
saying that between 20 and 40% of their webinar registrants are qualified leads.
Tumblr media
Consider doing a mix of different types of content so users can find the type of content they like best. For example, The Points Guy creates in-depth guides, like this 20,000+ word beginner’s guide:
Tumblr media
They also publish videos, like this one:
And quick news articles, like this one that is less than 500 words — but still covers everything readers need to know about the topics.
Tumblr media
Don’t just focus on blogs and ignore other forms of content that people may be far more excited to consume.
How do you know which type of content your audience prefers? Well, that brings us to the next step in developing a content marketing plan — testing.
Step 4: Test
Every part of your marketing plan should include testing. If you aren’t sure what type of content your audience prefers, create a variety of types of content to see what gets the most traffic — blogs, white papers, comparison posts, or reviews.
Use a tool like Optimizely to test different headlines, colors, button placement, and other aspects of your website.
Tumblr media

Google Analytics is another fantastic source of data — start by installing Google Analytics’ tag, if you haven’t already.
Then you will have access to a ton of reports about user behavior, acquisition, and conversions.

Affiliate Marketing Best Practice #2: Use Social Media to Build Your Affiliate Marketing Business
Social media has drastically changed how we get our news, interact with our friends — even find products to purchase.
And it is a critical aspect of building a successful affiliate marketing site— in part because of social media’s massive reach.
Consider the following numbers:
Facebook has 2.5 billion monthly active users
Instagram has 1 billion monthly active users
Twitter has 48 million monthly active users
The key is to find out which platform your audience uses the most so you can target them there. Here’s how to find out where your audience hangs out on social media.
Step 1: Use overall demographic information from each social platform, and compare it to your target audience.
According to Sprout Social, Facebook is most popular social media platform with people between the ages of 19 and 49:
Tumblr media
Instagram is most popular with younger users, with 72% of teens using the platform:
Tumblr media
Twitter users tend to be between the ages of 18 and 29, though teens and older folks also use the platform regularly.
Tumblr media

Step 2: Send out a survey
Ask your current audience relevant questions about what social media platforms they prefer, such as where they get their news, and which platform they use most often.
Step 3: Use Google Analytics’ acquisition report
Once you have a bit of traffic, use Google Analytics reports to see which social platforms are driving the most traffic. Sign in to Google Analytics, then go to Acquisitions > Social > Network Referrals.
Tumblr media
Keep in mind that your target audience may use multiple social platforms — and you may find that different platforms work better for certain types of content.
For example, Instagram may be more effective for brand building, while Facebook may drive more actual conversions. Consider using the platforms together to drive different types of behavior.
Facebook for Affiliate Marketing
Facebook has the widest reach of any social media platform, which means it is a great way to reach your audience, no matter who they are. But how do you make sure you aren’t annoying prospective customers and drive as much qualified traffic as possible?
It is all about building a relationship — not just marketing 24/7.
Here are a few tips for using Facebook to make sales or drive traffic to your affiliate website.
Start by building a following: Share interesting, useful content — don’t try to sell all the time. You need to develop a relationship with your audience before you sell.
Engage with your audience: Don’t just share content — ask questions and respond to comments.
Share related content (not just content you publish) and user-generated content. This will encourage a sense of community and establish you as a thought leader, not just a marketer.
Use Facebook ads to reach a wider audience. Facebook’s audience targeting allows you to laser focus on your ideal audience based on age, location, and interests.
Use retargeting ads to target Facebook users who have visited your website, liked your page, or interacted with your brand in some way. Targeting people who already know who you are can increase conversion rates drastically.
Instagram for Affiliate Marketing
Instagram is the rising star in the social media world — it doesn’t quite have the reach of Facebook, but it does have much higher engagement. Most brands see a median engagement rate of 0.09% on Facebook, while Instagram posts earn an average of 1.60% median engagement rate per post.
Earlier, I talked about Jason Stone, aka @millionare_mentor earlier, who earned $7 million in affiliate sales in less than two years. He did it almost entirely on Instagram.
Tumblr media
Part of his Instagram strategy includes posting entrepreneur tips and motivational quotes along with affiliate products.
When it comes to Instagram, every audience is different. So the type of content you post might vary based on whether you are promoting SaaS products or baby products from Amazon.
However, the following strategies are a good place to start:
Use Instagram Stories: These time-sensitive posts appear at the top of Instagram user’s feed and tend to get more engagement due to the 500 million daily active users. Filters, stickers, and tags make it easier to create fun, engaging stories.
Build a larger audience: Instagram business accounts can share links in their stories once they reach 10,000 followers. Increase followers by using a tool like Hashtagify to find related hashtags and engage with users posting content in your niche.
Instagram Ads: Instagram allows brands to boost posts and create targeted ads that can increase the reach of your content and draw in more followers.
Twitter for Affiliate Marketing
Don’t just sign up for Twitter and start spamming your feed with affiliate links. Just like other social media accounts, building a relationship is critical to successfully promoting content on Twitter.
Here is how to use Twitter to drive affiliate sales:
Optimize your profile: Include a recent photo, a detailed bio, a link to your website, and relevant hashtags. Show your personality so followers feel like they are getting to know you.
Share relevant content, not just affiliate links: People use Twitter to follow the news, learn about topics they are interested in, and follow their favorite celebrities. And don’t stick with just text Tweets — videos are 6X more likely to get retweeted than photos.
Leverage current events: Use the Twitter “explore” feature to explore current trending topics. Engage with other users and share relevant content about trending topics.
Twitter Ads: Use Twitter ads to expand brand awareness, increase followers, or drive traffic to your website. This guide on HubSpot will help you get started and develop your strategy.

Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram might be the largest social media platforms — but there are many others. Don’t forget about the other popular social platform, such as Reddit, Quora, and LinkedIn — particularly if your research shows your audience spends a lot of time on those platforms.
Affiliate Marketing Best Practice #3: Build an Affiliate Marketing Email Strategy
Email is by far the most critical marketing strategy for affiliate marketers, and here’s why.
It is the only platform where you have 100% control of the connection.
Facebook could change its algorithm tomorrow, making it impossible for you to reach your audience. Google could deindex your site, making it impossible for people to find your website.
But with email, you have direct access to your audience’s email boxes — as long as you follow your email provider’s rules.
And, you can reach just about everyone through email.
Nearly 4 billion people used email in 2019, and that number is expected to reach 4.3 billion by 2023.
Not only does it have a wide reach, but the average ROI for email is $42 per dollar spent, making it money well spent.
How to Build Your Affiliate Email List
Before you can start sending emails; you’ve got to have people to send your emails to, right?
So, how can you build an email list that actually converts?
First things first — don’t buy or rent an email list. In addition to being a violation of federal guidelines, buying lists simply doesn’t work.
Earlier, I mentioned that one of the most important steps in becoming a successful affiliate is to build trust with your audience.
When you buy an email list, those people have no clue who you are. They don’t trust you, and they are never going to buy from you.
Buying an email list is a waste of money.
It is far, far more effective to build an email list from people who want to hear from you — even if your list is much smaller. Aim for quality over quantity here.
Here are five proven tactics to jump-start your affiliate marketing email list.
Step 1: Offer something people want
Offer a resource, like an ebook, whitepaper, checklist, or template in exchange for their email address.
At Nichehacks, for example, we use reports to attract email addresses:
Tumblr media
Step 2: Add an email signup form to your sidebar/bottom of blog posts
Use a tool like Hello Bar which allows you to test different formats/colors/text. Consider embedding the form (like J.Crew has done below), so users can subscribe without leaving the page they are on.
Tumblr media
Don’t stress about sending too many emails: Gael Breton found that their unsubscribe rate actually dropped when they sent out nearly daily affiliate marketing emails.
Step 3: Make it easy to sign up
Don’t ask 50 questions — their name and email address is enough in most cases.
Step 4: Allow users to customize the content they see
The average person gets more than 100 emails a day — by asking what topics they want to hear about or set a limit on the number of emails you send each week, you are giving them back control of their inbox and lowering your unsubscribe rate.
Step 5: Post offers on social media which require an email sign up
Share something valuable such as a course or coupon that requires people to submit their email address in order to access.
Build an Email Strategy for Your Affiliate Marketing Company
You’ve built your email list — then what? Now it is time to build an email strategy. Remember, your end goal might be to make sales, but your main goal should be to deliver value to your list. If every email is a sales blast, you aren’t going to keep those subscribers you just fought so hard to earn.
When should you send emails? When you have something valuable to share — or questions to ask.
Here are five tips for building a solid affiliate marketing email strategy:
Always send out emails when you write a new post: Unless you are posting more than 5X a week. Then, consider sending a weekly round up.
Encourage readers to reach out with questions: You might get ideas for topics to cover and it creates a two-way conversation.
Focus on value and sharing useful information: Don’t promote every day. They allowed you to contact them and they can take that permission back.
Use personalized subject lines like “Dear <name>”: Data suggests that people are 50% to 60% more likely to open emails that use their name.
A/B test subject lines/layout/etc.: This will give you insight into what works for your specific email list. All the stats in the world can’t tell you what your audience will respond to.
Always include a CTA (call to action): What do you want your email to do? Just like a landing page, an email should drive the next step — whether that is clicking to learn more, signing up for a webinar, or buying a product. Be clear and direct — and use an easy to notice button.
Don’t stress about sending too many emails: Gael Breton found that their unsubscribe rate actually dropped when they sent out nearly daily affiliate marketing emails.

Note: Email can be part of a broader affiliate strategy or your only source of contact!
Affiliate Marketing Best Practice #4: Use Search Optimization to Rank Organically
SEO (aka search engine optimization) is the practice of increasing the visibility of your website (without the help of paid ads) by including key terms, links, alt tags, and other elements that search engines use to determine which websites are most relevant for a specific term.
For example, if you search “What is SEO,” Moz’s article ranks first. Google uses more than 200 different factors to determine that Moz’s article is the most relevant and useful.
Tumblr media
The major benefit of SEO is that it helps you get ‘free’ traffic, aka organic traffic. Instead of paying for ads, you work to make your content the most useful.
According to Hubspot, more than 60% of marketers are investing in SEO.
Tumblr media
And 70% of marketers say that SEO is more effective at driving sales than paid ads.
Why is SEO so important for affiliate marketers?
Advanced Web Ranking analyzes click-through rates for millions of keywords every month, and they found that the first organic result gets 33% of all traffic — while pages that rank six or higher will see little to no traffic.
Tumblr media
This is why you’ll hear folks talking about how they want to be “#1 on Google.” It is a lucrative position, especially for an affiliate marketer.
But there’s an issue — it can be really challenging to rank well for competitive key terms, like “What is SEO,” for example.
Here are the basics…
In the US, there are two main search engines — Bing and Google. Most SEO efforts focus on Google due to its 92% market share.
Google uses more than 200 factors to determine which site shows up for a search — and they don’t share what all those factors are.
Why? Because search marketers have a bad habit of trying to ‘game’ the system, which has led to strategies like keyword stuffing, link farms, and other black hat SEO practices.
SEO is a complex topic — there are literally hundreds of full-length books and hours of training on the market. But, I’ll give you the basic SEO knowledge you need to get started.
10 SEO Tips for Affiliate Marketers
Start by installing Google Analytics if you haven’t already. This is a powerful tool that will provide a ton of information about where your traffic comes from and how users behave on your page.
Use headings (denoted by H1, H2, and H3 tags) to tell Google which topics are most important in your content. This also makes the content easier for users to scan.
Add optimized meta titles and meta descriptions. This information shows up in search results and should use key terms and explain what the page covers.
Use simplified URLs and include key terms. For example, an article about SEO for affiliate marketers might have a URL like this: https://bit.ly/35gtbWV. This tells both users and search engines what topics are covered.
Include internal links using keyword-optimized anchor text. For example, if I wanted to link to a guide about finding the most profitable niche, I might say: “Use this guide to find the most profitable niche.” This lets users — and search engines — know what the linked pages are about.
Use alt tags — sometimes called alt text or alt descriptions — is alternative text added to describe a visual image. Their main purpose is to describe the image if the file can not be loaded — either due to an error, internet connectivity issue or for visually impaired users. However, search engines also use alt tags to determine if your site is relevant for a specific search.
Write long, in-depth content. Longer content — 2,000 words or more — tends to rank higher. However, the content also needs to be useful. Aim for quality and quantity.
Check your site speed. Pages that load faster are more likely to rank well. Use Google’s PageSpeed insight tool to get suggestions on how to speed up your website.
Get an SSL certificate, which creates a secure channel between your site and your server. This protects sensitive data and gives you a small boost in search results.
Use tables, bullet points, and lists to organize information and make it easier for users to read. It may also increase your chances of showing up in Google Featured Snippets, which displays the answer to a users question right in the search results, like this:
Tumblr media
These can include not just affiliate links, but also Google Adsense ads, sponsored posts, and your own courses or self-published ebooks.
Bonus Tip: Use Yoast, an SEO tool that creates an SEO optimization checklist for each post. It will remind you to include important features such as internal links, meta descriptions, and alt tags.
Affiliate Marketing Mistakes — And How to Avoid Them
Affiliate marketing is lucrative — but it isn’t easy. Which is a good thing; if it was easy, everyone would be doing it!
Just like any new business venture, beginners are likely to make mistakes. And while some mistakes are inevitable, there are a few significant errors we’d like to help you avoid.
Tumblr media
Don’t: Work in a Niche Outside Your Passion or Knowledge Base
When starting out, select a niche you have some base knowledge of or are really passionate about. Selling chinchilla supplies might be lucrative — but if you don’t know anything about chinchillas (or care about them), it is going to be much harder to produce high-quality content or build trust with your audience.
Do: Choose a niche that you already know something about or can quickly learn.
Don’t: Choose a Niche That is Too Competitive
Choosing a popular affiliate niche — like hosting, for example — means you are going up against well-established sites that already have thousands of pages of content.
Do: Choose a profitable niche with high interest and low competition.
Don’t: Give Up Before Your Content Has Time to Work
Affiliate marketing takes time. If you assume you will be a millionaire by the end of the month, you are going to be sorely disappointed.
Do: Work to provide value and build trust with your audience.
Pay attention to your traffic, and look for ways to create the type of content your audience likes. Use affiliate marketing tools like Yoast or SEMRush to optimize your content.
Don’t: Rely on a Single Stream of Income
Relying on one stream of income to earn money is a recipe for disaster. Instead of relying on one program or one company’s affiliate program, look for ways to diversify your income.
Do: Monetize your site in several ways.
These can include not just affiliate links, but also Google Adsense ads, sponsored posts, and your own courses or self-published ebooks.
Don’t: Recommend Products You Don’t Trust
People buy from people they trust. If you recommend every product that will pay you, it’s going to be really hard to convince your audience that you have their best interests at heart.
Do: Take the time to use or review products you recommend — and be upfront about the pros and cons.
Don’t: Be Unwilling to Invest in Paid Ads
Remember the adage “You’ve got to spend money to make money”?
While spending money on ads isn’t the only path to affiliate marketing success, it can help you build a following faster.
Do: Consider using paid ads through Google Ads, Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to kick start your traffic.
Don’t: Think You Have to Do it Alone
When you first get started, you may be working on this dream alone. But as time passes and you start making an income, look for ways to prioritize your time. There are plenty of freelancers who are also looking to make cash from home that can help.
Do: Hire help rather than letting things fall through the cracks. Hiring a virtual assistant or a graphic design assistant on sites like UpWork can help you stay focused on higher-level tasks.
Frequently Asked Questions About Affiliate Marketing
Can I use affiliate marketing as a second stream of income?
Yes! You can use affiliate marketing as a primary source of income or to support income from other products or services.
How do affiliate marketers make money?
By promoting products from other businesses and earning a small commission for each sale they make.
Do I need a website to get started as an affiliate?
Not necessarily. While many affiliate marketers use websites to host content about products they promote, you can also use social media. Just keep in mind that social media will limit the lengths of content you can produce, so make sure the format makes sense for the products you promote.
How do I find a competitive affiliate marketing niche?
Start with the topics you know a lot about — your hobbies and industries related to your work, for example. Research to see if these niches are oversaturated, and look for profitable sub-niches you can leverage.
What are cookies and why do they matter in affiliate marketing?
Cookies are a small piece of code some websites add to internet users’ browsers. It tracks the sites they visit and purchases they make. When an affiliate network says they have a “30-day cookie duration” that means you will get credit for any purchases a user makes up to 30 days after they click your affiliate link.
How long do affiliate marketing cookies last?
It varies by platform, however most affiliate cookies last between 30 and 90 days.
What is a good average commission rate in affiliate marketing?
There is no one ‘good’ commission rate. It depends on the amount of work you have to put in to make a sale. For example, SaaS tools may offer upwards of 40% commission — but to make even one sale, you may invest hours creating in-depth content.
How much money can I make as an affiliate marketer?
Your income will depend on how much content you produce, what affiliate network you use, the amount of traffic your site gets, and many other factors. It takes a ton of work to be a successful affiliate marketer — but you can make a full-time income if you work hard.
Can I just use PPC ads to drive traffic to my affiliate links and skip the content creation part?
No, not if you want to be successful. The most successful affiliates build trust with their audiences by creating useful, relevant content. Using ads to drive traffic is not a sustainable model — even if you are good at optimizing ads.
Do you have to use SEO to build a profitable affiliate website?
No, you don’t have to use SEO. Some affiliate marketers successfully build passive income with no website at all, so you definitely don’t have to use SEO to earn money as an affiliate marketer.
If you use primarily social media, email, or paid ads to drive traffic to your affiliate links, then SEO may not be the most effective use of your time.
However, if you want to leverage strategies that will help you build brand awareness and get free traffic from organic search results, you’ll want to learn a bit about SEO.
Why do most affiliate marketers fail?
There are tons of affiliate marketing success stories out there, which leads many people to believe that building a passive income through affiliate marketing is easy.
Most affiliate marketers fail because they assume building an affiliate income will be easy, and they aren’t willing to put in the work.
Final Thoughts
Getting started as an affiliate marketer is really easy —- but being successful as an affiliate marketer is no walk in the park.
If you dream of making a real income from affiliate marketing, this guide will help you get started. And while it’s not an easy path, it is possible to earn money while you sleep, travel, or just live your life.
You don’t have to trade your time for money by working your life away as a freelancer, taking lame surveys, or any of the less legitimate money-making ideas out there on the internet.
However, to be successful as an affiliate marketer, you have to be willing to learn and invest the time in creating solid, useful content for your audience and partnering with the best affiliate programs. The best affiliate program for your affiliate marketing site may vary based on a variety of factors. For example, the types of products you promote, your experience level, and your audience.
Make sure to compare the different platforms we’ve listed above carefully and select the one that fits your needs and your audience. Don’t be afraid to leverage several platforms — such as Amazon for physical products and single affiliate programs for tools you already use.
Finally, make sure to test your marketing initiatives. Remember that just because someone else finds success using a specific strategy doesn’t mean it will resonate with your audience.

What is the Best Way to Start Making Money Online With Affiliate Marketing?
Tumblr media
Hello! My name is Kevin but for this website I have dubbed myself Your Helpful Affiliate. I have been researching affiliate marketing for years. On this website I share my tips and tricks for affiliate marketing. I share what has worked for me and what has not. In this post I will be giving you my honest opinion on what I think the best way to start making money online with affiliate marketing is.
The Quick Answer
Tumblr media
While this affiliate marketing strategy is work intensive and more complicated than I can explain in a short paragraph, I am going to try my best. Right now I think the best way to start making money online with affiliate marketing is to create a multi media brand in a niche you personally care about and have had experience with. By creating helpful content and answering common questions on many different platforms under the same brand you can create a following as well as a presence in search engine results. You can suggest, review and promote affiliate offers naturally within your content as you talk about products and services you use. This strategy seems to me to be the best out of the bunch. It can have a very low start up cost and every piece of content you create for your brand can work for you far into the future.
Affiliate Marketing Strategy Expectations
I want to let you know up front this strategy can take some time to be successful, but at least you will know what you should be doing. I can not and will not promise or guarantee you will be successful using this strategy but I think it is the best one out there. If you do the work your chances at success will multiply.

The Most Common Affiliate Marketing Mistakes
Tumblr media
Below is a short list of the most common affiliate marketing mistakes. Avoiding these will save you a lot of time and trouble. Picking Affiliate Offers Based On Commissions Instead Of Real Personal Experience Spamming Affiliate LinksTrying To Sell To Everyone Instead Of Your Target AudienceSpending Money You Do Not HaveFocusing On Quick Results Instead Of Creating Quality Content If you want to take a deeper dive into common affiliate marketing mistakes check out the blog post link below. https://yourhelpfulaffiliate.com/10-common-mistakes-new-affiliate-marketers-make/
How To Pick An Affiliate Marketing Niche
Tumblr media
First of all, let us talk about what a niche is. A niche in the simplest terms is the category your content is in. For example, my niche for this website is affiliate marketing. This is the topic most of my content focuses on. Picking a niche can be tricky. It seems like a big decision right? Many people get hung up on this step. If you can, push through and just make a decision. As you start to create content you will get a better sense of what a good niche is. At that point you can even start a second brand, for now though let’s look at what is important when you pick your niche. A good niche choice should meet as many of the follow requirements as possible. It should - Be a topic you care about and have experience withHave a group of people interested in itHave products or services that benefit the people interested in itBe a topic you will not mind researching Be a topic you will not mind writing about Hobbies, personal interests and passtimes are good places to start looking for a niche that will work for you.
Creating Your Homebase Blog Website
Tumblr media
For this step I suggest creating a blog website because it offers the most benefit in the long run as a home base. Having a website allows you to build a brand presence online. This will be where you direct your audience. Pick A Website Hosting Service Provider
Tumblr media
There are many options to choose from when it comes to picking a website host. I will compare my top 2 so you can make up your own mind. Both of these website hosting providers offer a discount to new users. This reduced price can be applied to 1, 2, or 3 years. Once this introduction period is over the price will go up, so I recommend paying for as much as you can up front so save money in the long run. BlueHost BlueHost is my number 2 suggestion for a web host. This hosting service is the one recommended by WordPress.org. It is, from my experience, the most suggested and used website hosting service out there. Below is my affiliate link for BlueHost. This affiliate link pays me commissions at no extra cost to you. https://www.bluehost.com/track/bestsignup/ Sign Up For BlueHost SiteGround This is my number 1 suggestion for a web host. I am a constant user of technical and customer support for lots of my website tools. SiteGround has fast and knowledgeable support that has never failed me. Below is my affiliate link for SiteGround. This affiliate link pays me commissions at no extra cost to you. https://www.siteground.com/index.htm?afcode=396e6bef564936572a09158dc1fa4373 Sign Up For SiteGround After picking a host you will need to install Wordpress onto your website. Your host should offer customer support to help you get this set up correctly. Pick A Theme There are plenty of free themes offered by Wordpress for you to choose from. Find one you like and go with it. This is another step many people get stuck on so if you can push through and make a decision you’ll save yourself quite a bit of time. My personal favorite paid theme is called Acabado. This theme was created for members of Project 24, which I will talk about later. This theme was designed to be simple, fast and easy to set up. Below is my affiliate link for the Acaboado theme. This affiliate link pays me commissions at no extra cost to you. Acabado
*Time And Money Saving Tip*
Tumblr media
Below is a blog post that contains a few benefits to starting a blog website using Wordpress.org instead of Wordpress.com. If you have not set up a blog website before this post could save you hundreds of dollars! https://yourhelpfulaffiliate.com/hosting-moving-from-wordpress-com-to-siteground/ Develop Your Brand
Tumblr media
Before you dive into setting up your website you need to develop your brand. I suggest picking a brand name with an available url that has between 2 and 4 words that pertain to your chosen niche. I use NameCheap to check availability and buy urls. They have great customer service and an app! This really comes in handy when I What to check if a url is taken while I’m away from home. Once you have decided on a brand name and a website URL the next thing I recommend you doing is getting a logo. The blog post below will walk you through how I get logos for my websites. https://yourhelpfulaffiliate.com/how-to-get-a-lost-cost-logo-fiverr-case-study/
How To Find Affiliate Offers To Promote
Tumblr media
Finding affiliate programs and offers to promote is very easy these days. Simply search for a product or service on google but add the words Affiliate Program to your search. This is how I find most of the affiliate programs I promote. In the blog post below I talk about 15 affiliate programs you could join and promote. https://yourhelpfulaffiliate.com/15-affiliate-marketing-programs-sign-up-links/
How To Create Content For Affiliate Marketing
Tumblr media
The content you create on your blog website Should be written with two things in mind, your target audience and search engines. Do you want to focus on your target audience because that’s who you’re trying to help and you want to focus on search engines because that’s how they’re going to find you. The formula for good affiliate marketing blogs goes as follows. You want to paint a picture of the story of the problem of your target audience. This way you can show that you understand the problem they’re having. Once you’ve done this you want to suggest a solution. This is where your affiliate offer could come in. In a clear and helpful way you should explain how the affiliate offer you are promoting will solve the problem they’re having.
How To Create A Resource Page For Your Affiliate Offers
Tumblr media
The resource page is simply a page you can link to within your blog that contains information about all of the affiliate offers you would like to promote. Creating a page like this can increase your conversions up to 40%. This also allows your audience to see every product or service you are suggesting in one place. Once this page is created it can be very valuable to link to it anywhere you can. Places I suggest linking to this would be at the end of blog posts, in YouTube video descriptions, and in your website menu. If you can find other places to stick this link that seem to make sense do you go for it.
How To Expand Your Brand To New Platforms
Tumblr media
After you’ve created a decent amount of blog content, a.k.a. blog posts, on your blog website you may wanna start considering expanding your brand to new platforms. I suggest using platforms where the content has a longer shelf life that’s why I recommend YouTube and podcasts. Setting up a YouTube channel or a podcast is easy and free. You can do this by simply downloading the YouTube app or a podcasting app and starting to create content on it.
What Is The Best Affiliate Marketing Choice I have Made?
Tumblr media
I have spend years chasing the dream that I could make money online. Trying to figure everything out on my own was difficult, time consuming and unsuccessful. So what changed? I decided to find someone who knows what they are doing and learn from them. I know there are tons of gurus, coaches and teachers on the internet who want you to take their course. I was looking for the best of the best and I think I found it in Project 24. What Can Project 24 Do For You?
Tumblr media
Project 24 is an online course designed to walk you through creating a blog website that can replace your income in a 24 month period. I love it because it takes all the guess work out of the whole operation. Just following the 60 steps in a timely manner produces results. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9jLo89V_q3g&feature=youtu.be Below is my Project 24 affiliate link. Using Facebook and Instagram like a superstar
One of the things I love about organising The Great Melbourne Blog-in is that I get to shape the event. At September’s blog in, I got to question Catherine and Cherie from The Digital Picnic about all things Facebook and Instagram during our Q&A panel. You know that glorious moment when you have all these questions simmering in the back of your mind and then suddenly you’re face-to-face with some very generous social media experts and you get to ask them all those questions? Yes, that moment. It was awesome!
Social media experts Catherine and Cherie from The Digital Picnic. Oh, and that’s me in the middle.

Running a Facebook page
Best tips for running an engaging Facebook page #Facebook #FacebookPage #SocialMediaStrategy Click To Tweet
As most people are aware (except those that make this critical error) one of the biggest mistakes Facebook page owners make is using it as a dumping ground for self-promotion. Using Facebook page only as an advertising platform is not what gains you engaged fans and followers. You need to draw back the curtain and put yourself out there. Show some of the back end of your business. Make your page about your audience and what they want.
As a copywriter, this makes sense to me – know your audience, what are their pain points, how can you address them, sell the benefits and not the features yadda yadda yadda.
Since the blog-in, I’ve created a schedule for my Silk Interiors Facebook page. This page supports my eCommerce site Silk Interiors, where I sell wallpaper online. My plan includes a mix of:
design quotes
inspo photos/eye candy
recycled blog posts
decorating and styling tips
videos
FB live
before and after home makeovers
celebrity style
discounts and sales happening in Australia
memes
questions
our wallpaper products.
My next step is to use the native Facebook scheduling app to schedule content to post each day for a full month. Doing it in one big batch will save a lot of time, even though it will take some time to curate and schedule the content, but I’ve made a BIG list of sources (I’ll blog about how I find them another day), which will be a great help. I’ll monitor the engagement metrics via Facebook’s ‘Insights‘ dashboard and see which post types perform well and I’ll experiment with different times of the day.
Whatever you plan, test, test, test and figure out what works best for your business.
If you have any plans, even a very vague and distant plan to use Facebook Ads, install the Facebook pixel into the header of any or all pages on your website you wish to track. This means setting up a Facebook business account and grabbing some code to paste into your website (very easy to do with a plugin if you’re using WordPress). The FB pixel is a sneaky little thing. It gives you the data to show your ads only to people who have visited your website in the past, for example. It helps you target people already interested in your business. You can also create ads to target users in the same demographic as your website visitors. Ooooh. Sneaky sneaky. And perhaps a bit creepy…
Have you installed the Facebook Pixel yet? #SocialMediaStrategy #FacebookPage Click To Tweet
Facebook. Knows. Everything… my business bestie and I were chatting on Facebook Messenger about awnings (totes random, I know) and then we both started seeing ads for awnings in our newsfeed. We hadn’t visited any awning or blind sites or visited awning pages. In fact, in our Messenger chat, we were coming up with the most random thing we could think of in that conversation. And then there were ads for awnings. Just saying.
What I learnt about Facebook Live videos
Pre-promote your Facebook Live session so you won’t chicken out. If you’re running a Facebook Live Q&A session, give people a chance to prepare their questions that you (hopefully) can answer. As a Facebook Live novice, I’m not sure what’s worse though – people turning up or people not turning up!
Pre-plan what you’re going to say. Always have something to talk about. Talk about something before you get into the guts of your video to give people a chance to join you, live. If they’re following you, they’ll get a notification to say that you’re live.
Avoid the wobbles and use a tripod for your Facebook Live videos #FacebookLive #FacebookTips Click To Tweet
It’s best to set-up your video on a tripod so your video is steady. A steady camera can also save you a lot of data – those micro wobbles when you hold your phone camera create a fatter video file. Not that I have to worry about data here in Korea, but a tripod will give your FB video a more professional look. I tend to swing my body from side to side while my head remains stable-ish when I do Facebook Live videos. I don’t know why. Perhaps that’s where my nerves manifest. Or I’m just a weirdo.
After you finish your Facebook live video, you can upload it and then change the video thumbnail. For laughs, Youtube and Facebook are in some kind of conspiracy to make sure they choose a thumbnail where you look your absolute worst.
See what I mean? Worst thumbnail choice ever! Excruciating for me… and the potential viewer. I look so bored with my own FB Live vid I’m falling asleep on myself.
But it’s easy to change it.
On the video post, click on those three dots on the top right… then click on ‘Edit post’.
Next, scroll through the available thumbnails and hopefully, there’s one that looks like you haven’t just eaten a sour lemon or are about to pass out. But if that fails, add your own custom image.
While you’re on that screen, you can add metadata to your post to help it get found more easily in Facebook’s search engine.
After you’ve uploaded your Facebook live video, go through the comments and respond to any questions people have. This will give your post a bit of a boost. The more comments (including your own) the more reach your video will get.
If you’re happy with the video, you could also consider using it in a Facebook Ad.
What I learnt about (non-live) videos on Facebook
If you’re going to add your video to Youtube, don’t share a link to the Youtube video with your Facebook audience. Instead, for better reach, upload the video directly to Facebook. Apparently, Facebook loves native video content. Of course, this makes sense. Facebook wants to retain as much ad revenue as possible. Keeping users ON Facebook and not sending them away to the Adsense share of the market is the sensible thing to do if you’re Facebook.
For greater reach, upload your video direct to Facebook, not via a Youtube link #FacebookTips Click To Tweet
Also, consider using a square format for your video as this is becoming really popular – people are used to and expecting the Instagram size and style of videos.
Don’t share everything between Instagram and Facebook or your audience, if they follow you on both platforms, will start to look like me in that thumbnail picture above. Yawn. I think it’s lazy social media-ing when businesses do that. Especially when you’re confronted with a face full of Insta hashtags on Facebook. I’m petty like that. Mix it up and share your video on Instagram a different day (or at least a different time of the day) then when you published your Facebook post.
I need to start a Facebook group and so do you
At a past TGMBI event, Linda Reed-Enever talked about building a Facebook Group to support your business or blog. I won’t rehash those bits, but it’s a timely reminder that if you share your Facebook page’s post to your Facebook group, it sends powerful signals to Facebook’s algorithms and can help increase the reach of your post even beyond the group.
I’m still considering what my FB Group will be about, how it fits with my brand and vision for my business and who I want in it besides my business besties. But first I need to schedule content, experiment and evaluate my Facebook plan.
Stay out of the naughty corner
Something else I learnt just this week is that Facebook has legislated yet another reason to put your page in the naughty corner – not disclosing sponsored or affiliate links. Facebook calls it ‘Branded Content’.
If you’re doing sponsored posts or publishing, as Facie puts it, content that features or is influenced by a business partner for an exchange of value, you need to tag the business partners in your branded content posts. But it’s not that simple. So you can do this, first you have to sign up for Branded Content within the Business Manager section of FB and be approved. If you’re publishing branded content (by Facebook’s definition) and not disclosing your relationship with the company, then you could find yourself in the FB naughty corner. This has happened to someone I know I know in a Facebook group just this week.
You can identify Branded Content posts because they have the small text ‘Paid’ whacked next to the time stamp of a post. This is different to posts you pay to boost where it says ‘Sponsored’. Other than that, I’m not sure what it all means, yet! You can read more about Facebook’s Branded Content tool and laws here.
What I learnt about Instagram
LinkTrees! AKA where had you been all my life/why didn’t I think of that.
Solve the 'link in bio' dilemma with a LinkTree @Linktree_ #instagramtips #linktree Click To Tweet
You know how you have to write something like Link in bio on your Instagram post and then update every single time you promote a new page or post or product? So annoying. Well, enter the Link Tree. You put one link in your bio that goes to a landing page where you include ALL your links. There’s even a website you can outsource your link management to – LinkTr.ee. (I wrote more about this tip in my recent post What to do after you publish a blog post.) You could also host a link tree page on your own website.
Instagram Stories – you need to be there and in the regular ole newsfeed. Your ‘story’ only lasts for 24 hours, but now that Instagram is no longer chronological, it’s your best bet for getting noticed at the top of someone’s Insta feed.
Look at your insights. What are the peak times and WHY are they the peak times? Look into the reasons why certain posts are popular than others.
If you haven’t already set yourself up with a business profile, it’s easy to switch from a personal to a business profile – here’s how. You’ll need a business profile to access your account’s insights.
Until recently, I’d only been using the image tools like Filters in Instagram on my pictures. Then I discovered an app called Fotor. The basic version is free. You can use the app or the desktop website to manipulate your images to make them look gorgeouser. I must admit, I’m a bit visually illiterate, but with Fotor, I’ve been having fun experimenting with image manipulation.
Get your images Instagram ready with the Fotor app @fotor_com #instagramtips #photoediting Click To Tweet
To illustrate my point, here the original photo I took.
And here’s the edited version. How much cooler and more interesting does this second image look?
Final words on social media-ing
Ultimately, when it comes to sharing content, be endearing to your audience. Maybe even a bit vulnerable. Be relatable. Suprise and delight your audience.
Thank you, Cat and Cherie, for sharing your time and knowledge.  If anyone wants to improve their social media skills, then you need to attend one of their online or in-person social media courses – and not just in Melbourne. These savvy social media experts travel!
Have you experimented with anything on social media lately? Any success or spectactular fails to share? Let me know in the comments below.

Wealthy Affiliate vs Income School – Which One Is Best?
Starting a successful affiliate marketing business is tough – even more so for beginners. To reach the level of success that
Tumblr media
lets you put your legs up and watch the money flow in, you must work super-hard and smart.
Fortunately, there are programs designed to train you to fast-track you to the top. Wealthy Affiliate and Income School Project 24 are two of the most popular ones. They help you wade through the murky waters of digital marketing if you are a complete newbie and give you helpful pointers if you already have some level of experience.
In this article, we will discuss and compare them to help you make your choice as to which one would suit you more.
We will start with summaries of what they offer and then go through a raft of features and examine how they fare with each.
What is Wealthy Affiliate?
Wealthy Affiliate (abbreviated to WA) is a bit like a school that offers online marketing training – in fact, they also go by the name Wealthy Affiliate University. It was started by Kyle and Carson in 2005 to help affiliate marketers and other online entrepreneurs build successful online businesses from scratch. They coach you on how to convert your ideas into income by building high-traffic, profitable websites. They also grant you access to a vibrant community of marketers where you can engage with fellow marketers to share personal stories and learn from each other’s experiences.
The main course is known as the Online Entrepreneur Certification (OEC). It is divided into five phases:
1. Getting started
2. Building your own traffic producing website
3. Making money!
4. Mastering social engagement
5. Achieving maximum success through content creation
Each phase has 10 lessons covering individual elements of digital marketing. In addition to the training program they also offer the following services (some are only available for premium users):
· Affiliate program which allows you to make money by marketing WA’s programs and services.
· Weekly live video classes
· A Personal Affiliate blog
· Hosting services along with support, feedback, analysis, and comment platforms.
· Access to a Keyword Research tool
There are two levels of membership – Starter and Premium. The Starter plan is free to allow you to familiarize yourself with how the program works by letting you access a portion of the services. By paying for Premium membership, you receive the full range of services WA offers.

What is Income School Project 24?
Income school project 24 is also an online affiliate marketing training platform. It was established by Jim and Rick to teach members how to set up successful online businesses. The program pledges to help clients create a revenue-generating business in 24 months hence the name “Project 24”.Jim and Rick are known for their hands-on, lay-it-all-out-there approach that many people appreciate and resonate with (particularly with their YouTube videos). The two founders like sharing their own experiences to augment their training modules.
Their main program features a 60-step process. It is designed to help you to set up your niche site from scratch while avoiding the mistakes that commonly hamstring many people’s internet marketing efforts. It is divided into four phases:
1. Phase 1 covering the first three months
2. Phase 2 covering 4-6 months
3. Phase 3 covering 7-20 months
4. Phase 4 is the launch covering the final 4 months.
They constantly update it to keep up with new trends and remove anything that becomes obsolete.
Other perks to joining Project 24 include:
· Access to additional courses on creating great content and marketing your website. Through these courses, they tackle everything from how to write a blog post to keyword research. Jim and Rick constantly add new courses and update the existing ones.
· A podcast discussing new opportunities and digital marketing tactics.
· Access to a vibrant community through which members share experiences with fellow marketers.
· Access to niche site ideas if you are stuck.
To join, you have to pay the full first-year membership fee. You will still pay for subsequent annual subscriptions but the rates go lower. The justification for charging students from the moment they join is that it helps them commit and take their training seriously.

Wealthy Affiliate vs Income School Project 24
When it comes to choosing between the two programs, there are a couple of things you need to examine. Here are some useful considerations:
