"S’il y a bien des insectes qui prospèrent avec le changement climatique, ce sont les moustiques, vecteurs de maladies infectieuses graves. Non seulement la hausse des températures favorise leur expansion, mais elle modifie leur métabolisme (ils se reproduisent et deviennent infectieux plus vite). «La plupart ont simplement besoin de petites quantités d’eau stagnante, développe Philippe Grandcolas, directeur de recherche au CNRS. Avec l’intensification des grosses averses et des grosses chaleurs, et l’augmentation des températures moyennes, ces insectes survivront aux hivers, leurs œufs aussi, et on verra une prolifération.» Les cas de dengue, transmis par le moustique-tigre, pourraient augmenter de «36 % d’ici le milieu du siècle», selon le Lancet Countdown 2023, qui signale que près de «la moitié de la population mondiale» y est aujourd’hui exposée. Le paludisme, propagé par le moustique Anophèles, progresse aussi, l’OMS ayant enregistré 249 millions de cas en 2022 (soit une hausse de 5 millions par rapport à 2021)."
