You'd grown up in Sheffield all your life, you lived in a very nice home and came from a pretty well off family. With a dad in oversea real estate and your mum as a business owner and entrepreneur in the UK you wouldn't ever have to ask for anything twice.
The trouble was that you tried out so many hobbies and none of them really tended to stick.
Ballet when you were at three, didn't work with zero hand to eye coordination.
Horse-riding when you were five, didn't work after you got bored with how slowly you were being taught to ride.
Acting school when you were seven, didn't work when you were bullied for only being there because of mummy and daddies money. This completely made you loose your passion for it.
Swimming when you were eight, which you had to stop because of a medical condition with the cold water in the winters and your body temperature not mixing well.
Space camp when you were nine, didn't work because you were bored where you already knew everything they talked to you about because it was a special interest of yours.
Pottery when you were ten, whenever something broke you got really disappointed and sad with yourself and eventually it became something you only did every now and then to avoid burnout.
Gymnastics when you were eleven, didn't work after getting bored within the first weeks and it taking up too much time.
You were 12 when you met Zhou Guanyu, he moved into a house down your road in the gated woodland community of large and wealthy farm homes and mansions.
You guys became close almost straight away, you'd spend every night in the treehouse that his dad built him when they first moved in. But he wasn't always around, some weekends you'd knock on his door and no-one but the maid would answer explaining that the family weren't around.
She'd let you into the house, where you'd wait for him in either his bedroom or out in the treehouse. Sometimes he wouldn't come back until 10pm, and you'd be curled up on his beanbag in his room, asleep and his parents would have to call yours suggesting yet another sleepover.
After 3 years of knowing him, you found out where he'd been going and why he was home schooled just like you. He would kart, but now he'd got into Italian Formula 4 and he wouldn't be home as much.
You'd cried begging him not to go, Zhou really was your only friend and even though it had only been three years of friendship you'd attached yourself to him insanely quickly.
Not that he minded of course.
Your managed to go see one race with him, it was in Monza and he'd won it all. And that weekend he asked you to be his girlfriend. You of course said yes, as a two giddy sixteen year olds and went on from there.
The distance got easier when he was in the European Formula 3 championship in 2016. You being 17 weren't actually allowed to make your own choices yet, but the minute you turned 18, 5 months after Zhou, you were following him around to each race.
At this stage taking a gap year before you were due to go to university was better for you, and Zhou. In 2018, he got the news he'd be going to Formula 2 for the 2019 and you'd been accepted to Oxford.
For that first year you made it work. You visited him at races when you had breaks from university and he would come stay with you in your small uni accommodation in the off season or when he had longer breaks into between races.
But when 2020 rolled around, and you were forced to be separated by the growth of COVID-19 your relationship fizzled out. You pushed and pushed trying to keep the sparks there but one day, Zhou phoned you explaining that he couldn't do it anymore.
You'd cried so much that day, and you'd never felt more alone. The only place you thought to go that was safe was the tree house, you could get there through the side gate and you knew Zhou's parents were in China on business only leaving the maid there.
So that's what you did, you laid there curled up in a blanket Zhou brought you, crying until it got darked and you started to scare yourself looking into the dark woods.
When you were younger and you thought you heard or saw something in the woods, Zhou would hold you close explaining to you it was just your imagination and you'd immediately feel a sense of calm wash over you.
You left the treehouse that night getting on the last train you could think off back to Oxford.
Zhou continued in F2 in 2021, but got progressively more busy when competing in a small stint of the Winter F3 Asian Championship, of course you kept up to date with him.
You loved the boy and you didn't ever think you'd stop.
When the announcement of his promotion into F1 happened you cried happy and sad tears. Happy he'd achieved his dream, but ultimately sad he was in the big leagues now and he would definitely have no time for you.
He had a phenomenal first year and you watched every single race, even getting up at absurd hours to watch him. You cheered him on all the time and would get anxious whenever you had to stop or DNF.
Silverstone with the Russell incident was the worst. You parents had to hold you tightly as you cried seeing just how bad the crash was. Seeing George run over to his flipped over car that he couldn't get out of and a red flag being called.
You ran out the house going straight to the treehouse. His parents watched as the 22 year old climbed up the old rickety ladder, bag in hand and red bloodshot eyes.
They knew you'd seen his crash and you wanted some space.
What did shock them was the fact that you consistently came back every night for a few weeks.
It was a warmer night and you still had your blanket but there wasn't a need for a hoodie when you first came out. You were just laying there on the wooden planks looking out of the little skylight in the breaking wooden roof at the stars.
"Hey" a voice says softly making you turn to the ladder.
"Zhou?!" you explain sitting up quickly looking at him. Not that you hadn't seen him on Instagram or in his post race interviews but he'd grown into his face. He was as handsome as ever.
"Mmmmm" he sighs, almost in a grunt sort of way. He comes next to you and lays down, not coming to close scared that you'll leave if he pushes to close.
"Your star is up there tonight" he says raising his hand and pointing to the brightest star between the tree line. He'd named it your star when you'd spend the first night out here.
"How's it been, travelling round the world?" you ask softly turning to look at him, laying on your side. He turns onto his as well to also look at you.
"Lonely" he whispers with a sigh, pushing some of you hair behind your ear making you hold you breath as his fingers brush along the side of you face and down to your lips before recoiling his hand back.
"But your so busy and round people all the time!" you argue confused as to why he would ever feel lonely.
"I think sometimes even though I'm surrounded by people, they aren't people that get me... you know?" he asks turning onto his back, looking up at the sky.
"I think i feel the opposite" you laugh.
"What do you mean?" he asks, his gaze not wavering from the sky.
"I feel like i have absolutely no-one around me, but everyone i do bump into can see right through me" you sigh, having struggled at work recently as a graduate and new employee, working from home.
"Seems like we both are out of our comfort zones then" he offers with a sigh.
"Mmmmm i did have my comfort zone at one point" you say, it came out pointedly which you didn't intend.
"Yeah?" he asks, looking over at you again.
"Yeah it was you. I don't think I've ever experienced a connection like I have... had with you" you sigh.
"Had, you don't feel that way anymore?" he asks with a sad frown, that makes a frown of you own appear.
"You broke up with me in one of the loneliest periods in my life, It's always just been you Zhou, I've never had anyone else and then you were just gone ... I- you broke me and took a part with you" you sniffle, not sure how else to describe the heartbreak you were feeling.
Some people had their heart broken, where it would splinter all over and someone would come along and patch it back up until it healed.
Some people had their heart broken, where it would completely shatter and all the pieces are spread out and someone has to come along and pick up all of those pieces and puzzle them back together.
Some people have their heart broken, where it again completely shatters but the culprit takes a piece of that heart with them so that if theirs a time when someone else does come around and fix it it's never fully fixed, beating but never full.
And Zhou had that piece of your heart and no-one had put back the remaining parts of your heart, you'd gradually started to do it yourself but it was proving to be a long process.
"I-" he starts but chokes on his words.
"I think, I'll always love you Zhou Guanyu..." you whisper sitting up, your hair loosely falling over your shoulder.
"I know I'll always love you. And I want to take back everything I did! I need you in my life!" he says looking over you, making you look down.
"You cant take it back Zhou..." you start before looking up seeing his teary expression. "But i think we could start again. I don't want my heart back, it's yours to take... all of it forever. Your only going to be it!" you smile, knowing this was your chance to have him back.
He was your soulmate you were sure of it.
He leans up and pulls you into a kiss.
"I promise from here on out, I'll never leave you again again!"

Three people have been shot dead in six days in separate killings in London.
The most recent was a 22-year-old man who was gunned down at around 9.30pm on Sunday in Wood Green, north London.
Police including armed officers were called to High Road near Wood Green Tube station where they gave the victim first aid.
Despite treatment by medics from the land and air ambulance, he was pronounced dead at the scene at 10pm. His family have been told.
Gulcan Ilhan, 36, who regularly visits Wood Green to help her brother run his shop said: “It’s not safe. I could be walking to a shop and god forbid there’s a shooting.
“No one feels safe to walk down the road”.
Less than 24 hours earlier, another man, 28-year-old Sam Brown, was fatally shot in Cheney Row Park, Waltham Forest, east London at about 12.30am on Sunday.
He was taken to hospital but later died.
Locals said they had been expecting trouble when a group of up to 100 people gathered in Cheney Row Park.
One man, who did not want to be named, said: “I did see earlier more and more kids showing up so we thought… there would be a fight.”
A second man was taken to hospital at the same time as Mr Brown with stab injuries. He was later discharged and arrested “in connection with the incident”, the Metropolitan Police said.
The two fatal shootings follow another killing in the early hours of Tuesday July 19, when a 26-year-old man was shot in Bruckner Street, Queen’s Park, west London.
Seven people were arrested over the death and later released under investigation.
This number of fatal gun deaths in less than a week is unusual in London.
Up until July 19, there had been no firearms killings in the English capital since October 31 last year.
In 2021, there were 12 fatal shootings among a total of 134 homicides recorded by the Metropolitan Police.
Earlier this year, in April, the force said it had seen a reduction in gun crime, with the number of all shootings, including fatal and non-fatal, down from from 283 in 2019/20 to 196 in 2021/22.
A spokesperson for mayor of London Sadiq Khan said: “The mayor’s thoughts are with the families and communities who have been affected by violence in the last few days. He is clear that one death is one too many, with every death leaving lives destroyed, families heartbroken and communities hurting.
“Sadiq is in regular contact with the police who are working on relevant tactics and operations to arrest and suppress further escalations. If anyone has any information about any of these or any other violent crime, they can ring Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111. There is no honour in staying silent.
“Tackling violence and making our city safer is Sadiq’s top priority and he is committed to being both tough on crime and tough on the complex causes of crime. Thanks to the hard work of the police and prevention and early intervention work led by London’s Violence Reduction Unit, supported by record investment from City Hall, violent crime has been falling since before the pandemic, with gun crime, knife crime and teenage murders significantly down.
“Despite progress, the level of violence remains too high and the mayor will continue to work closely with the police and community groups across London to provide them with the resources they need to help protect Londoners and make our communities safer.”

LA / Life Affirming Moments: En Route
Tumblr media
Cynthia Luján & Jorge Mujica Life Affirming Moments: En Route September 16 - October 8, 2023 Opening Reception: Saturday, September 16 7-10pm
SUR:biennial in association with Tiger Strikes Asteroid Los Angeles is pleased to present Life Affirming Moments: En Route, a two-person art exhibition featuring individual and collaborative work by Cynthia Luján and Jorge Mujica. Having successfully worked together on past endeavors, the artists made the decision to embark on a 3-month creative process in what the two describe as a “contemplative exploration of life's pathways.” For the current exhibition, the artists draw inspiration from materials and imagery associated with transportation (recurrent motifs in Lujan’s oeuvre) to construct and activate a metaphorical journey of introspection. Through a fusion of each artists' aesthetics and thoughtfully coordinated 2 and 3 dimensional interventions, the gallery space unfolds like a meandering path, inviting viewers to pause and reflect. Guided by familiar visual cues found in everyday human movement, these pauses offer a serene interplay between individual and collaborative artworks.
For Luján, objects found in public spaces (traffic cones, chain-link fences, painted street lanes, chevrons, signage, cement, asphalt, brick, grass, etc.) serve as surrogates of power as she repurposes and subverts these symbols in an effort to reveal the constrictive fabric of American social architecture.
Mujica’s contributions for this exhibition represent an evolution of his rigorous and longstanding engagement with physical materials. By manipulating flat industrial surfaces, Mujica creates freestanding structures whose carved pathways and varied trenches result in positive and negative spaces that are designed to interfere with viewers’ perceptions. In so doing, Mujica beckons visitors to contemplate the interplay between real space and the painted surface, and the physiological and psychological effects the objects provoke as they navigate through the exhibition space.
By collectively orchestrating these moments, Luján and Mujica have realized an experience and showcase that will hopefully serve as a validation and celebration of each person's unique journey while encouraging introspection and a deeper connection with the artists’ poetic gestures.

ARTIST BIOGRAPHIES
Cynthia Luján is an artist who works regionally in Southern CA and lives in Unincorporated Los Angeles with a BFA in painting and a minor in Russian language from California State University, Long Beach. Her public murals and other collaborative projects, which can be seen across Southern California, focuses on the mission of creating more access while addressing barriers created through social conditioning. Her most recent public project, “Outside In” (2022), consists of a 24 x 22 foot mixed media mural created for Saddleback College, Mission Viejo, CA. Her goal is to foster dialogue to create interdependent spaces that prioritize safety, accessibility, and inclusion. Through her work she seeks to create a generative social architecture that fosters fulfillment, empathy & belonging.
Jorge Mujica is the Director of Creative Arts Coalition to Transform Urban Space (CACtTUS) and has shown at M+B 22', Ace Hotel 22', Bozo Mag 21', (Los Angeles). Centro Cultural de La Raza 21' (San Diego). Hi-Bye 20', Casa Del Ahuizote 20' (Mexico City). Horse and Pony 18', Copyright 19' (Berlin). And commissioned by the Museum of Latin American Art to create "Long Beach High Five" a public sculpture at Robert E. Gumbiner Park in Long Beach, CA in 2019. He earned an MFA in Painting and Printmaking from Yale University 12', MA in Visual and Critical Studies from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago 10', and a dual BA in Political Science and Art History from Cal State University Bakersfield 08'.
Mujica’s designs are realized through a process of rehearsed drawing exercises that combine automatic movements and a choreographed mapping of space resulting in the transformation of flat materials into his singular free-standing painting surfaces. While acknowledging certain conventions of painting as an illusionistic portal on a flat surface, he also embraces the autonomy of the sculptural object that occupies an actual physical space; a duality in Mujica’s work that manifests panoramic ruptures.

NLL Finishes Regular Season With 1,039,418 Attendance; Tops 1MM Fans For Third Time in 36-Yr History
Tumblr media
The National Lacrosse League (@NLL), the world’s largest and most successful professional lacrosse league, today announced that this past weekend’s action, highlighted by Georgia and Vancouver both setting season highs at just more than 9,400 each, pushed overall league attendance to 1,039,418, just the third time in NLL history to eclipse the one million-fan mark in the regular season and the first time since the 2008. With the NLL Playoffs now ahead, the current cumulative attendance trails only the 1,138,225 in 2007 and 1,083,345 in 2008. Attendance is up 25% versus last year, which was the first full season after the NLL ended the 2019-2020 early and sat out the 2020-2021 season due to the pandemic.
“Our record crowds this year are a testament to the commitment and passion of our loyal North American fan base, the elite competitiveness of our athletes, and the amplification of our sport by many partners, especially TSN and ESPN,” said NLL Commissioner Brett Frood. “While a million fans is clearly an impressive milestone, the pinnacle of our season lies ahead the start of the NLL Playoffs. We can’t wait for this last exciting piece of the March to the Championship to get started this weekend.”
Some key team highlights this year for attendance include: • The Calgary Roughnecks hold the NLL’s single-game attendance mark this season with 17,444 on hand March 17, an 11-6 win over the Saskatchewan Rush at the ScotiaBank Saddledome. • The Buffalo Bandits welcomed the next four largest crowds this season, including back-to-back crowds of more than 16,000 the past two weeks: 16,051 on April 15 against the New York Riptide, and 16,861 on April 22 versus their rival, Toronto Rock. • The Toronto Rock had its largest crowd ever since relocating to Hamilton, Ontario, and its highest attendance in more than a decade: 13,127 on April 1 in an 18-7 win over the Buffalo Bandits. • The Halifax Thunderbirds set a franchise high of 10,008 fans for their 15-6 win over the New York Riptide on April 21.
The NLL Playoffs begin Friday, May 5 with Toronto (E2) hosting Halifax (E3) at 7:30pm ET (ESPN+/TSN, TSN+) and Colorado (W4) travelling to take on San Diego (W1) at 10pm ET (ESPN+/TSN+). Saturday, May 6, features the other two matchups with the I-90 Rivalry, Rochester (E4) at Buffalo (E1) at 7pm ET (ESPNU/TSN+, ESPN+) and Panther City (W3) taking on Calgary (W2) at 9:30pm ET (ESPNU/TSN, ESPN+, TSN+). The Colorado Mammoth are the defending NLL Champions after defeating the Buffalo Bandits in the NLL Finals last season in three games. The winners of the Quarterfinals will play in the best-of-three Conference Finals, with Games 1 and 2 scheduled for May 12-15.

The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann Documentary Review
The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann takes a comprehensive look into the disappearance of three-year-old Madeleine while on vacation with her family in Portugal. I decided to watch this documentary because not only does it relate to my topic to a great extent, but it also appeared back in the news recently as yet another person claimed to be her.
Although this was not included in the documentary, very recently, her case has resurfaced as a woman by the name of Julia Wendell created a TikTok account claiming to be Madeleine. Even though her videos have gained great exposure to authorities and Madeleine's family, it has been proven due to DNA testing that Julia is not Madeleine.
Tumblr media
It has been sixteen years since Madeleine was last seen. How does she just disappear into thin air without a trace? Is this a case of human trafficking? Are the parents involved? Someone must know something....
At around 8:30pm at Praia da Luz, Kate and Gerry McCann walk over to tapas bar about 50 yards away. Prior to this the McCann's tucked their children asleep around 7pm. Mr. and Mrs. McCann went up to check on Madeleine and her twin siblings every 30 or so minutes. The last time Mrs. McCann went up to check was around 10pm where she found Madeleine's bed to be empty and Madeleine was nowhere to be found.
Tumblr media
One of my biggest takeaways from this documentary is the fact that Madeleine's case received very extensive media coverage. I am not saying that there is anything wrong with this, but during the documentary the contrast of the press between Madeleine's disappearance and the case of 11 year old Portuguese boy, Rui Pedro, was very shocking. Rui Pedro's disappearance received very little coverage.
"I can assure you the money police spent on the Portuguese children is not even 1% of what they spent on Maddie," former detective Paulo Pereira Cristovao said in the Netflix documentary.
Madeleine's face is recognizable worldwide. Up to this day, she is known as the most reported on missing person in modern history.
I think this documentary did a great job at not only telling the story of what happened and the events that unfolded but it also appealed to the issue of many missing children's cases not receiving the same coverage.
The documentary in itself was released in 2019. This was 12 years after Madeleine vanished. I thought that the documentary would have included some new information on Madeleine, but this was not the case. The documentary is a good source for individuals who are not familiar with the case, but for people who have known about the case since it occurred, would likely be disappointed.
The people used as experts in this documentary were very relevant. Former detectives, newspaper journalists, and Portuguese authorities were all interviewed and appeared in this documentary. Since people such as these appeared in this documentary, I feel as if this source is very trustworthy for someone who may also be doing research on this case. These individuals were known to play hero roles in the documentary because of their countless measures to try and bring Madeleine back home safe. They were also very involved in the case and were trying to do anything in their power for Madeleine's return.
Initially, in the beginning of the documentary, the McCann parents were being investigated as prime suspects. Their involvement was eventually dropped four months later. I am convinced the parents were definitely involved because police sniffer dogs detected blood in the family's apartment and then cadaver dogs reacted again in Kate and Gerry's rental car. Crime expert Moita Flores, interviewed in the documentary, stated that “Maddie died in that apartment, I have no doubt.”
Tumblr media
This documentary really made me think about the very people around me. Anyone can be capable of the unthinkable. It is important to never overlook the people you think would have nothing to do with a crime. Although this case is still an unsolved mystery I don't think it is a mystery at all. What do you think??

Even the manager came to check to see if everything was ok . It was fabulous .”Martha L., October 2022 “Husband and I decided to venture out to find a place to have breakfast or lunch and found this gem. Mala cristo sandwich and chicken pita were awesome and the view from our table was breathtaking. Service was great. All were so friendly! Will come back one day!!!!”Rosie M., October 2022 “Mala was wonderful! The staff was great and really enjoyed Eric who was our server. Cocktails were phenomenal. You can tell it’s another restaurant that’s elevating the food scene in Maui. We got the calamari (super tender & fresh), the scallops, and the catch of the day with a squash puree that you just want a bowl of all to yourself. Great experience…will be back again!”Kristen F., October 2022 “Just came back home from vacationing in Maui. And this place was recommend by locals. They did not disappoint my wife and I had an amazing experience. Food was great…views were spectacular! Service was absolutely top notch. Our server Lisa was incredible she made it even more memorable. I will definitely come here again one day. Thank you!”Elvis R., October 2022 “This is one of the best meals I’ve had in Maui. Their patio is lovely. The servers are attentive and welcoming. Eric was our server; he was delightful. The ahi bruschetta is delicious and unique. We also ordered the catch of the day poisson, which was a local bottom feeder fish that was flavorful and had a nice full texture and came with a delicious mushroom sauce. This place is a gem!”Kaly K., January 2022 “Great vibes! Beautiful views. Akoni was playing some great background music. Sergio and Lucas were super attentive and always smiling. And the food was all so delicious! We will definitely be back.”Shannon H., January 2022 “The food at happy hour was great and the view was gorgeous. Best calamari I’ve had.”Evan S., January 2022 “Came here with a friend to grab a bite to eat. The food was really good and the location is amazing. Its one of the few restaurants in Maui right on the water. We came in the evening which was very peaceful but I imagine sunset is beautiful. We ordered so much but what stood out to me was the oyster shooters. I cant wait to go back and try other items. Highly recommended for a chill dinner or a sunset dinner. We came without a reservation but I do recommend making one.”S.H., January 2022 “View and service are incredible… We sat at the bar and Nestor was polite, gave great suggestions and was very attentive. The Greek salad had a lot of toppings and the dressing was good but overall, our experience highlights were Nestor and the view!”Kari V., January 2022 Every time I come here I am amazed. This is my favorite place to get a fish dinner on the island. We come some times twice a week and I haven’t met another person who hasn’t loved it. The view is absolutely incredible, the wine list is impeccable (includes a great selection of white burgundy) and every server is very knowledgeable on the menu which helps make the experience seamless.Haley S. on Google February 2021 Happy hour at Mala Ocean Tavern in Lahaina is from 2pm-4pm daily featuring discounted appetizers, flatbreads, cocktails, wine, beers, and well drinks.

Day 34 (the problem) Ironwood Nat'l Monument
You had to have been wondering why the previous post was labeled (b4 the problem). Readers of this blog for several years are well acquainted with the 2019 marijuana toxicity (2019 Day 12) and the 2022 mouth burned and infected by eating cow dung (2022 Day 34, 35). Yes, we're talking about Maddie, not us. We're always wondering what she'll do next to cause a trip (long drive out of the desert) to the world where vets have offices. Well, tonight's the night - 8pm long after any vets anywhere are closed.
To make a long night short (for you) - came home from the hike, took the pictures, made dinner, Maddie ate like normal, we ate, we sat at the table talking, Maddie lay down and slept, then she came to the table to get petted (we should have been alerted right then as her habit in the motorhome after dinner is to lay down across from the table and sleep), then she crawled under the table to get petted (ok, now we're paying attention), we commented on the fact there was no thunder or wind but kept petting until, she moved out from under the table and we saw her swaying. Now she had our attention. We spent the next 20 minutes trying to get her to eat a treat, taking her outside, trying to get her excited. All these resulted in no interest in treat, went outside and stumbled out and in along with more swaying. And the minute we stopped trying something she slumped to the floor. This is exactly what the beginnings of the 2019 incident looked like. We called a vet we'd seen 30 minutes away - closed but gave 3 emergency vets' phone numbers in recording. Called the one that looked 45 minutes away and they said it was an 8 - 12 hr wait (shades of the 2022 problem). Called the one that was over an hour away and they felt they could see her right away. So off we went. She continued to be woozy and laying on the car seat strangely. When we got there she jumped out of the car and ran around the parking lot like regular Maddie. She got back in the car and acted strangely again. Not wanting to waste our time and the vet's we thought we'd try to get her to eat so drove to a Dutch Bros we'd seen minutes before they closed at 10pm. She didn't twirl around for her Puppacino like usual but she did eat it slowly. We hemmed and hawed and hemmed and hawed and finally decided to go back to the vet. We told them again what had been happening and they did an exam - run around, play ball, heart rate, temp, etc. The vet was super compassionate, listening to our whole story and what we thought it could be and she too had no explanation, just like we didn't. We all agreed at 11:45pm that it seemed safe to forego labs, etc and see what happened through the night.
Of course by the time we got back at 1am she was happy to eat a treat and even with the late hour she seemed fine.
So, did we make the wrong call? Still wondering not matter what she ate that she shouldn't have - what would cause the swaying, stumbling and in a few hours retun to normal. Maddie, Maddie, Maddie.
