An angel and a demon are on my fingertips
Making me write lyrics, whether I’m smiling or crying
Even when the paper gets all wet
I can’t stop
Sometimes, I exaggerate my sadness when I write

Wait... technically 1863rd HSY regressed. Uh. Idk what to do with this information
Oh... and she regressed to meet Kim Dokja again... just like Yoo Joonghyuk...

Orv is exceptionally effective because they will constantly be dancing around in my brain consuming my every waking moment and I think to myself "I would die for you Han Sooyoung" or any of KimCom but then I'll realize "Wait no I don't wanna be like Dokja going all self sacrificial that's too cruel... I guess... I'll... Live?",

thinking about yoo joonghyuk and how he is not meant to give up, not ever. but then! what do you do when the person who created you strolls in and says actually, this one time you'll have to give up. not right away, sure, but you will have to give up.
1863rd round the author comes in and talks to him directly and makes him the husk of a man we find a few days away from The End, the one whose only desire seems to be to just get there (the last step of han sooyoung's plan) and die.
she is the only one who can make him give up like that, if not for the single point of failure she wove into his very being — the very reason he cannot ever truly give up
kim dokja shows up, changes the trajectories of both of their lives for fucking ever, and in general fucks everything up so spectacularly yoo joonghyuk can do nothing else but split himself in two
because he wants to live.

Smoking
Tumblr media
The world had gone to shit, and Han Sooyoung could really use a smoke.
When the scenarios began and Han Sooyoung was forced to survive in the world of the third-rate novel "Ways of Survival", she had almost laughed.
Out of every novel in the world, her luck was bad enough that it had to be the worst novel she'd ever read.
Her mind should've drifted to the numerous chapters she read and the information lazily given in those many paragraphs, but it drifted to that one commenter she always saw. "Kim Dokja" - she wondered if that stupid guy survived somehow, or if he just died in the first scenario, like many people did. She laughed at the thought.
Well, it didn't matter to her. Now she had to make plans, find a way to survive this shitty world.
She used and manipulated the people around her to reach the end.
She lied and deceived many just to make a way for herself to survive.
Each one of her decisions were selfish in nature.
Finally, the conclusion would soon come. She only had one decision left to make.
This path has had the least amount of sacrifices.
Han Sooyoung was a villain at heart. Unlike the novels she wrote, the cliche plot lines of a hero choosing to save one person over the world and finding a way to save both would not happen here.
She was not a hero, and so she was willing to make that sacrifice.
The smoke rose up into the sky and Han Sooyoung breathed out a sharp exhale.
She will always make the same choice in the end.

it's so interesting to me how the kim dokja's unreliable narrator perspective is undeniably cruel to yoohan at times. he does think of them as flawed the more he spends time with them, but not enough to let their emotions factor in making the most important decisions for them to survive the scenarios. but at the same time, he's horrified at 1863rd yoohan for deciding how best the clear the apocalypse scenario in this turn. when this was undoubtedly how kdj generally perceived yoohan to be. the way it feels so fundamentally wrong for him that he couldn't cope with it and yet he doesn't realize it except that he's going to clear the 1863rd turn in a way that still saves all of them and not just leave yjh behind because this is what he promised...despite that yjh himself had already agreed with hsy's plan to just seal him in limbo for eternity. that he would die knowing that everyone will be happier for it. and that hsy knows the cruelty of creating a world out of yjh's eternal despair and goes through it anyway. that she knows she would carry yjh's burden for the rest of her life if it meant clearing the scenario.

thinking about the relationship between 3rd turn hsy's candy addiction and 1863rd turn hsy's smoking
(orv spoilers under the cut)
i don't really have like a thesis statement or a special observation here i just think the stable time loop is neat. why did 3 develop her candy addiction? well, during 1863's time as (redacted), she couldn't smoke--due to being in her childhood self's body--and she needed something to keep herself awake for long nights of writing, and she had to do all that secretly. sugary candy is much easier to acquire and reasonable to have huge stashes of in your room than caffeine, so it made for a natural substitute. but then why did 1863 switch from candy to cigarettes in the first place? well, stress, probably. she's a lot stricter on herself and others than 3, and her goals are a lot more grandiose--while it's true that kimcom's goal was to end the scenarios, 3 herself is mostly focused on keeping herself and her loved ones alive; 1863 took on the role of apocalypse-ender herself.

kills me how han sooyoung is always the one both kim dokja and yoo joonghyuk look to when they want someone to kill them
kim dokja gets her to do that in the strongest sacrifice scenario, and of course when he becomes the 73rd demon king she has to be the one that starts it and yoo joonghyuk in the 1863rd turn, as well as in the museum during the epilogue always forcing the knife to her hand
but she ends the story by writing orv to save kim dokja... and inadvertently saves yoo joonghyuk as well

thinking about the ship of theseus as a concept and how it applies to kdj. how much of yourself can you cut away before you cant be called the same person anymore. how many times can you kill yourself before there stops being enough of you to be killed. how much of yourself can you tear into pieces and throw away before the callousness with which you do it becomes a fixed apathy. how many repairs can be made to the ship of theseus before it stops being his.
honestly feel like it applies to yhk in general really well too. han sooyoung and her avatars in a literal sense since she is quite literally sectioning herself off into pieces whenever she uses the skill; yoo joonghyuk more metaphorically since we see in the 1863rd round whats basically like. the stripped to nothing recognizable ship now returned to theseus (kdj). but i feel like with kdj its just The Worst because we look at the scenarios themselves and like kdjs half performative half genuine flippant reveals of his deepest traumas and at his thinly veiled suicide attempts (sacrifices) are just. hello? i mean each one of those just guts him further and further and we see the literal actual fourth wall continue thickening to the point where (given we observe in kcoms pov) who is kim dokja? whats left after you peel back all the skins hes discarded? what makes the ship of theseus the ship of theseus?
and then you throw in the sucker punch of the 49/51 debacle and the question stops being like a vague overhanging vibe to the story and instead becomes the focal point of it: how much of a person can you strip away before they stop being the person you know? and i really truly think orv answers this. it answers it in the most beautiful way possible and the answer is that if theseus loves the ship. its his ship. the ship of theseus can be 1% original parts, it can be 49%, it can be 99%, it doesnt matter. the ship of theseus is theseus' ship because he loves it and as long as it continues to be loved it will continue to sail under his name.
and idk. i think about that a lot. people love you regardless of how much they know about you and thats the point. being known often precludes being loved but sometimes people know you because they love you. the ship of theseus is his because he loves it. yeah.

All the moments Joonghyuk has smiled in the novel
Since it's Yoo Joonghyuk's birthday I will post the moments Joonghyuk smiled in the novel. (I commented on reddit about it too tbh)
1.
I replied with a smile, "Release your hand and get lost, you damn son of a bitch."
Then the power holding me disappeared. I was grabbed by the force of gravity. I saw Yoo Joonghyuk's face as I was falling. Yoo Joonghyuk was smiling brightly like something made him happy.
Son of a bitch.
"I believe you. You are definitely a prophet."
2.
''How delicious can the food you make..." I said this but I quickly took a bite out of the dish Yoo Joonghyuk was making.
Then... No, what was this?
Lee Seolhwa, who was helping Yoo Joonghyuk nearby, smiled and asked me, "Is it delicious?"
"...Yes."
It was damn delicious. Really, it was delicious. No, it was the best dish I had ever eaten. What was this meat skewer?
One side of the expressionless Yoo Joonghyuk's mouth curved up. Damn. Even if he was a regressor, how could this bastard cook so well?
3.
Just like the 1863rd turn's Yoo Joonghyuk who killed himself to cross over to the new world- line, they were now stepping into a world that I didn't know.
Within the rays of light, I saw Yoo Joonghyuk's faint smile.
He looked... liberated.
[The constellation 'Secretive Plotter's' 'Oldest Dream'.]
4.
"Just how long were you out there in space?"
"Are you curious?"
A faint smile-like expression floated up on Yoo Joonghyuk's lips before vanishing completely. As that was a rather un-Yoo Joonghyuk-like behaviour, Han Sooyoung ended up frowning deeply.
''...You actually smiled?"
5.
[Constellation, 'Demon King of Salvation', is…]
"I didn't mean to say I'm unhappy."
Yoo Joonghyuk smiled faintly.
I dazedly stared at him for a moment there, having finally learned that he was capable of such a smile.
6.
"But I do" The corner of Yoo Joonghyuk's lips curled up as he lifted up his sword.
7.
Kim Dokja would die? Yoo Joonghyuk laughed. >"Kim Dokja is capable of resurrection. I thought I told you before but you must've not heard it."
8.
[ Demon King of Salvation. Do you think the story of your disappearance will be read quickly or slowly? ] I could hear a mischievous laugh coming from somewhere. The portal was fully activated and my field of view was completely blocked.
9.
However, Yoo Joonghyuk wasn't panicked at all. "It is Summoning the Dead? The Devil of Principles also used it." Yoo Joonghyuk was smiling. "That bastard's body is now hanging among the dead constellations."
10.
I reflexively looked at the 'Secretive Plotter'. I wanted to tell him that now would be a good time to run. Even if it was him, he'd not be able to escape from being sealed in that thing. However, why are you… smiling? [Constellation, 'Secretive Plotter', is looking at his own ■■.]
11.
Even before I could shout something out, Yoo Joonghyuk shot up from his spot and spoke. "I've made up my mind. I will…" As he formed a triumphant grin, his lips slowly parted.
12.
‘This is the end I wished to see.’ It could’ve been a slightly more excellent conclusion. If he had made a different choice back then, or maybe, if he chose to go down the better direction, then…. Yu Jung-Hyeok smiled bitterly.
Please tell me if I missed any.
Edit: 7 more added.

In canon, KDJ ships YJK with HSY
Chapter 381: "Yu Junghyuk and Han Sooyoung – the First Prince of the Kaixenix Archipelago, and the esteemed daughter of an Earl.
Sure, there was quite a difference in height to overcome, but..... When looking at them some more, they did seem well suited to each other. Their personalities were a bad match-up, but then again, they had a surprising amount of similarities, too."
Forget Lee Seolwha. There's a line during the 1863rd regression, during the 'happy memories' thing, where KDJ brings up one of YJK's happy memories was seeing Lee Seolwha married and had a child with someone else. (173rd round if I remember right). Meaning KDJ read over 1000+ rounds of a version of YJK who was completely and absolutely over his ex-wife and knows better than anyone else that he the ship doesn't sail for YJK with LSW.
So he ships him with Han Sooyoung of all people.
Those two would be SO MAD if they knew.

in my head yoo jonghyuk and han sooyoung did not hook up until the epilogue at earliest because theyve both got wayyyyy too many other things to worry about and still have a lot of issues with each other. but also. i have an orv au where they have secret hookups in those periods after kim dokja dies but before he comes back.
the earliest one happens post demon king death and its got a lot of anger and regret behind it. also some jealousy where han sooyoung is intimately aware of yoo jonghyuk's importance to kim dokja (<- has not processed why this upsets her or that she wants it to be her, just gets pissed off at the thought) and yoo jonghyuk is vaguely aware that kim dokja trusts han sooyoung with information and in a way that he doesn't trust yoo jonghyuk (<- tells himself its just anger at kim dokja and distrust of han sooyoung that causes it).
the next few ones happen in the 3 years where he disappears to the 1863rd turn where theyre both. coping. lots of trying to find him in each other. but also this is the period where they start to feel genuinely closer to the other person (at this point they have exchanged denial about liking kim dokja with denial about liking each other). han sooyoung feels vaguely guilty about sleeping with yoo jonghyuk for multiple reasons (she knows about wos and knows hed be really upset about her keeping it from him, kinda feels like shes stepping on dokjas toes, etc) but supresses that and keeps doing it anyway. bad coping mechanisms for the win.
finally we have the biggest development in these hookups when it comes to the epilogue, where it takes on a very bittersweet tinge. they understand their relationship with each other a lot better know, and have lost that mistrust and guilt. they actually let themselves like each other, but are very aware of the missing piece between them, which brings a new type of guilt and longing.
