The amount of people acting like they pinned all of the obsession of Petrigrof on Betty and didn’t address Simon’s at all is making me so frustrated because they literally did address it.

We’ve been seeing Simon’s obsession with Betty the WHOLE TIME. The entire plot of this show is kickstarted by the fact that Simon can’t let Betty go and he was willing to do anything to see her again, even if it was extremely unhealthy or dangerous for him (or others in the case of Choose Goose). This is portrayed by the narrative as being self sacrificial and bad.

Simon’s character arc was about learning to let Betty go and move on to a healthier and happier life. He’s letting go of his obsession with bringing her back and correcting the past because they can never go back to the way they were and change things. Their choices for better or worse are solidified and they can’t be altered, and Simon has to live with that. He can regret it all he wants, and he’ll probably spend the rest of his life regretting it, but he knows that he has to get better. He has to live his life the best he can and find new joy in other places.

Just because it wasn’t spelled out in excruciating detail doesn’t mean it wasn’t there. He was obsessed with her just as much as she was with him, but it was in a different manner. His character arc was about realizing and overcoming that obsession. I feel like I’m going insane.

As much as I love re-connecting with Ortega, there is this added grief, if Sidesteps has decidedly severed all ties to their past that I love. Then they start to pull their live together and continue living, even if they've grown more cynical, only to find out Sidestep is alive and has been in Los Diablos for 2 years!! Something has happened to them and they refuse to tell anything concrete what has happened!! They don't want anything to do with Rangers or Ortega! Worse yet, Ortega might suspect that their old friend is the new villain, who can send them to hospital, break their arm and Herald's knee.

Like it's such an added tearjerker, because you already grieved them, when they were dead. Now you have to grieve the lost connection, the old friendship when they are alive and breathing? Absolutely gut wrenching!!
