Finally Broken Down and Watched the Prequels
I honestly don't remember if I've seen them all before or just clips. But after a few years of being a Star Wars fan on a steady diet of fandom, I broke down and pulled out the Phantom Menace to cap off my birthday. I’m spoiled to hell and back and a couple decades older than the intended audience but what the hell. So here’s my two cents (or more) arrogant opinion on The Phantom Menace:
Heads up, long post.
Shmi surprised me the most of any character. After reading fanfics about Jedi or Qui Gon pressuring/coercing her…she’s the one who asks them to take Anakin? For education she can’t give him? Okay, fair. And I’m 100% onboard with Shmi as Force Sensitive and/or taught Jedi beliefs cause her lines are peak Jedi. Anakin not only betrayed Jedi teachings but ALSO HIS MOM’S when he went Darth Vader. Congrats, you become not only Galaxy’s Worst Father but also Galaxy’s Worst Son.
Shmi is also clearly enslaved by the plot. Not even Anakin selling the winning pod racer was enough money to free her…but somehow Cleigg Lars has the cash? Is he supposed to be running a plantation here?
Jar Jar was annoying but given how low my expectations of him were set? Eh, the worst thing about him was the blatant racist portrayal (and he’s not alone) in a film whose MAIN THEME is equality. Bad enough to have a bigoted cliche show up but George Lucas are you deliberately shooting your movie’s message in the foot?
This is especially bad when another blatant racist portrayal is Watto and the Jedi are Space Jewish Buddhists! Enough idiots buy the Sith propaganda that Jedi steal children or whatever that attitude does NOT NEED REINFORCEMENT!
Especially not IRL.
Qui Gon harping on Anakin needing to be trained but NOT being the one to train Anakin was also a bit unexpected, given his fanon portrayals. I mean on the one hand I’m glad you’re not screwing your Padawan over completely but on the other hand you found and freed Anakin and now you want to pawn him off? Which he did, in the end.
Poor Obi Wan though, like I get this isn’t an easy solution and Qui Gon is backed in a corner but man you'd think a diplomat would be a little better! But kudos for Kenobi he looked past his hurt and rallied to support his Master for a nine year old’s sake.
Tales of the Jedi seems to imply the Council sent Qui Gon to Darth Maul like a lamb to the slaughter but that was not what I got. No one, not even Qui Gon or Obi Wan, seemed to think they couldn’t handle him. Not entirely certain they didn’t write off his appearance as a 100 on the random encounters table but anyway…
I’ve seen the clip of Anakin standing before the Council and unlike a lot of scenes it feels more open to interpretation – is Anakin cold cause of the Dark Side growing from his fear or cause he’s used to Tattooine? Does he fear for his enslaved mom or for his own pain from losing her? Is Anakin behaving himself better because he’s intimidated or because he has his serious pants on like everyone else? Does he think the Jedi will kick him out on the street or does he know he’ll still be taken care of?
Also the movie ends with Mace and Yoda - The Two Top Ranking Jedi - discussing the Sith Master, so the Jedi are clearly jumping onto that investigation.

do you have any recs for media with older gay characters?
I would've been able to finish this sooner if Tumblr asks could b drafted. I typed this huge thing up when i got this on like Friday I think ? But then I lost half bc half didn't copy bc I didn't notice a paragraph break
Ok so The Cool Kids:which got canceled after a season, but Leslie Jordan's character, an actual 60+ (white) gay actor, had a four episode romantic arc with another 60+ character ? Its like a basic network comedy joke wise but the romantic arc and Leslie's character was .... Good. Here's a clip i poster : https://anissapierce.tumblr.com/post/183387758622/this-moment-in-the-cool-kids-was-cute-but-fox
The show Cucumber which oof ok I think Is a good show but I disagree fundamentally with the ending, I don't want to spoil if you don't want but the way it treats one oglf the black characters is rlly eh... Also the main guy ? Kind of a total creep n there's this very weird storyline tht borders on pedophilia n incest.... Just bad vibes. Like the main character from wht I remember is criticized for the bullshit but mmmmm. The shows about two bottoms whove been together for decades either have never had sex or just Rarely have and how they deal w breaking up essentially? There's a bunch of gay bi lesbian n one trans actor (two black main characters, one side black character, the bottoms in question are in an interracial relationship ) bc it's a Russel T Davies show. Pretty nsfw
Ok so I never finished this I think I got to the end of s1 but it's not Heinous: the webseries Old Dogs New Tricks, bout a group of (white) older gay guys in Hollywood. Its like ....not Rlly great but it's final season is coming out soon ? But it started in 2012 and uhhh it has the stink and shine of 2012 the writing is kinda bad .... The acting takes a bit to get used if ur not used to watching shoestring indie gay movies. One of them is faking a terrible British accent. There's like one or two recurring black characters according to IMDb. There's probs some sexual harassment issues considering wht I rmbr from a certain character who's uh ... Forward.nsfw.
Cloudburst is a very cute movie about an older pair of lesbians one of them isn't out to her daughter and she gets tricked into being sent to a retirement home. Her wife, I forgot if they call each other tht in the movie but for the ease of talking abt it, breaks her out. The rest is very Bonnie and Clyde but w no cops and they pick up this young adult dude. Semi nsfw you see a full on dick n there's discussions of sex n sex toys but there's not rlly s full on sex scene iirc.
Brother to Brother: stars Anthony Mackie as a gay l8 teen/early 20 sth who befriends gay Harlem renaissance writer Bruce Nugent, if you haven't looked up his poetry it's def worth a look, and how their friendship unfolds. Bruce isn't the main character but he's got a lot of screentime lines etc, a lot of it spent recounting his time in the Harlem renaissance thru flashbacks. Its kinda implied that him and Ant Mack character maybe had a thing but idk it didn't feel overt to me last time I watched? Its like kinda nsfw bc of talk if sex n a couple of cut short sex scenes.
Before You Know it is a documentary about gay men retirees or soon to be retirees, all white, and from wht I remember it was really interesting. One of them runs a drag bar the other is searching for a retirement community that'll accept him.
Tab Hunter Official: An interest documentary about a closeted movie star from the 50s and 60s and why he basically disappeared from the public eye. He isn't alive to talk in the doc but a lot of older LGBT folks n scholars are there. I think it's worth a watch bc it has a lot of older ppl talking abt the past n wht it was like for them as LGBT folks
Our Sordid Lives/A Very Sordid Wedding: This one might be very ymmv humor wise. The movie focuses on a young gay man coming back home to the South w his black boyfriend and the trials n tribulations his family n town are already going thru. Leslie Jordan plays an old drag queen locked away in a mental institution basically for conversition therapy. The character rides that very Angel Rent line where ur unsure if he's just a gay guy drag queen or the character is trans or both ? A warning for attempts at sexual harassment or violence kind of played for laughs from wht I rmbr ? The head of the mental institution keeps making passes at and harassing Leslie Jordan and I haven't seen the movie in ages but I think it's at least a little played for laughs at her expense ?The sequel has Leslie Jordans charcter out of the instruction and trying to kickstart his Queen career? Alec Mapa has a small role in the second one? The second film is Abt the dude from the first coming back to his hometown to get married to his boyfriend from the first movie now fiance ? There's a serial killer on the loose whose a nectofiliac n the way they choose to reveal him as bisexual is hmmmm some of the humor surrounding attraction to black men iirc is very hmm.. but like I remeber enjoying the movies ?
Doom Patrol: imo this counts. Larry Trainor had been alive for 90+ years but his body had changed much since he was 30 bc the radiation n burns etc have kept him perserved. He's played and voiced by younger men but later in the season u spend a whole episode with an older gay man played by an older man. Also Alec Mapa was in an episode and keeps showing up throughout to be a news gag basically ?
Bingo love- Very cute graphic novel about two older black women who were seperated from being together n their burgeoning relationship when they were teens n find each other way later in life. Id suggesting the deluxe edition bc the extra stories are all so good? The art is good the writing is and the other has a sequel tht focuses on a similar plot of two older men of color finding each after in life after a relationship while in the armed forces? And also a sequel based on the main characters of bingo love.
Axe and Crown- a podcast that's under the name Alba Salix because it's kind of a subpodcast of AS ... Its a comedy fantasy podcast starring a troll running a tavern, his pesky young human landlord who just got the tavern passed down to him from his dad(I think) and his neice. Said troll is nursing a breakup from his boyfriend who also uses to be the tavern cook. The voice actor is I'd say older than middle age n the troll character sits at an age range tht I'd def say is old.
O human star- So a robot engineer suddenly wakes many years in the future to find out he's an Android, someone uploaded his brain into this robot. He finds out that his former lover and work partner actually created another version of him thats an Android too,but this one was almost like a clone of him tht got raised as a child n grows and learns as one. (The partner did this on accident basically not for creepy reasons.) Also this clone version of him ? Is a now a teenager pretty much Andis a trans girl ? Both of the main characters are squarely wht I'd describe as older. Also the now cyborg/Android is bisexual but there's been a big moment in recent comics tht he's undergoing an examination of his sexuality n gender ? I don't want to go into more detail bc uhhh I feel like the reveal is very good ? The cast is pretty diverse but all three main characters r white.
Linoleum knife- ok so this is a nonfiction movie reviewing podcast. The hosts are two white men in their sixties who are married (to each other as they like to tack on sometimes bc apparently ppl don't think tht otherwise) . Idk I think it's just a sweet podcast ? They're both professional movie critics but sometimes their podcast just gets into squabbling Abt ironing ? Its cool tht they're both big old leftists and they're bears and talk a lot abt wht was cooked tht day ?
K so I watched Grandma and can confirm tht it's rlly good ! Also Anon I have another rec, this cute twenty minute short film Curmudgeons, Danny devito and David Margulies play two old men firmly in love. Its very sweet n worth a watch. https://vimeo.com/159449591/description
Also omg i can't believe I forgot the Exorcist Tv Show. Ben Daniels plays bisexual and has a very sweet kiss with someone around his own age. The show is very gay season 1 had a main character lesbian n s2 did too. Ben Daniels plays a priest who's an expert in exorcisms but has a very Constantine backstory ? His costar is Alfonso Herrera also a bit of sceptic to exorcisms but enlists Daniels characters help anyway ? Like holy God it's so amazing and it's messaging is so good ? You want yearning? Gay tragedy ? Gay love ? Love conquers all ? Found Family? Bc The Exorcist (fox) is tht bitch
@corvidaedream recommended Grandma, a Lily Tomlin movie where she's a lesbian whos dealing w the loss of her wife, she's an asshole and i love her. I watched it and loved it so much ! The push if the movie is that Lily's characters granddaughter needs money to pay for her aborition. And so Lily goes to all these different people to try to get the money fast before the granddaughters appointment at 5 pm. (The cast is really great some highlights : Laverne Cox as a rockabilly tattoo artist, john Cho as a very christian (Jesus fish necklace n all) coffee shop manager,Judy Greer as a recent ex of Lily's character. I can offer up triggers fyi I just feel like this post is too long already
Grace and Frankie has two older gay guys but I've only seen like ....half an episode
And yeah that's all tht I've seen? You're gonna have to brave the wilds of like pride dot com rec lists

#Introducing ToSha
Tumblr media
I've come to realize I've never said anything about Keisha and Tony. This ship was only born last summer but me and my friend have caught back a serious case of ToSha fever a few days ago so I'm taking this opportunity to introduce them properly.
*Keisha and Tony are part of a story yet unnamed that takes place a few days/weeks after the events of Blindsight. Tony actually has an active role in Blindsight since he's the handyman of the Nocenti family who wants Shaun, Chester and Ani dead. By that I mean he's taking care of all the dirty work. I don't wanna spoil Blindsight but Tony ends up more or less changing sides and betraying his family by making a bargain with Shaun to save Ani (they've got a hilarious bromance going on but that's another story)
*Tony is a smart guy. And also kind. His dad, Gene Nocenti, is a mafioso, his mom is a nurse and he's very close to her. He has a conflicted relationship with his brothers because he wasn't born from the same mother. Astero, the first born blatantly dislikes Tony and used to bully him when they were kids. Marco, the second born, is used to walk into Astero's footsteps, so he's mimicking his brother's animosity towards Tony without really knowing why. Silver, the youngest of the bunch (Tony's little brother) was the only one Tony could really get along with on his father's side. Tony was Silver's role model and they spent a lot of time together despite their differences.
*And then there's Keisha Romero. The prettiest girl on the block. The prettiest girl in all the fucking Bronx, some would say. Tony and Keisha have known each other since forever, they've been living in the same street since they were kids (Keisha with her parents, her grandma, her two sisters and her baby brother, and Tony alone with his mom) so they didn't see each other as a potential romantic interest at first, not at all. He was just a stupid guy heckling with the other boys on the block, she was just a bratty little miss know-it-all who thought she knew better because she was reading her dad's newspaper.
*Around 11-12 they started to see each other under a different light. Keisha was becoming prettier everyday, the boys were slowly beginning to notice it. Tony on the other hand stayed a scrawny stray cat for a long time, but never really felt self conscious about it. It's only around 15 he had the most epic glo-up, nobody understood what happened.
*Keisha always liked Tony. That's why she was always acting superior with him ; she was clumsy but all she wanted was for him to notice her. She liked him even before he got the glo-up and her friends would start giggling whenever he would pass by in the hallway. It's also probably the reason why she would dismiss all the boys who would be bold enough to ask her out. At 15, Keisha had the reputation of a virgin warrior princess in high school. She was seen as unreachable. One day Tony's friends dared him to ask her out, he didn't want to do it, but the boys pushed him and turned that into a bet "if she says yes you win 50 bucks! But I guess we'll never know cause ya ain't even got the balls to ask her. "- Tony didn't like that. He liked Keisha and wanted to ask her out but that thing felt really wrong, she didn't deserve to be played. In the end Tony took the bet reluctantly ; cause he was 15 and you know how easily a young boy breaks under peer pressure.
*To everyone's surprise, Keisha said yes when Tony asked her out. Especially him. "Are you for real?" "Yeah but I gotta be home by 9 and you'll have to pick me up and walk me to my house after that." He was the only guy she wanted to go out with, but he had no idea. Tony won the goddamn 50 bucks, but he didn't give a shit. He had a date with Keisha, the prettiest girl on the block. But to him she was still bratty ShaSha ; he gave her that nickname when they were kids and she never liked it, so he never gave it up.
*They started dating and it was wonderful for like one month. He was her first date, her first slow dance, her first kiss (excuse me yes, this is a teen movie sorry I should've put a trigger warning) but rumours run fast and ShaSha quickly learnt about the bet. She was furious. She went to talk to him that afternoon where he was chilling with his friends in the yard and slapped him before he could even say a word. Then she dumped him in front of everyone, and left, still furious. Tony's friends were laughing at him but he didn't really care. He knew he wouldn't be hanging out with those fuckers anyway from now on. Keisha cried herself to sleep that night. Tony was also her first heartbreak.
*Keisha got over that heartbreak eventually. The next year, Tony found new friends, and his new friends were friends with Keisha's friends so they ended up forming a clique, eating together at lunch, etc. At first Tony and Keisha were avoiding each other, but everything went fine when she found herself another boyfriend and finally accepted Tony's excuses. They were hanging out again. They were closer than ever. Tony didn't mind that Keisha was dating another guy, he was happy for her. But on the other hand, Keisha wasn't as happy as she claimed when Tony started to date Maria, a friend they had in common. She was jealous af. And she started idealising Maria and having self esteem issues. She broke up with her then bf shortly after that. The days passed and Tony and Maria were still together. Tony was treating her right, and Keisha was happy Maria found him cause she deserved it (the girl had a very difficult family situation, and a very tough life in general) but she couldn't help feeling jealous and she felt awful for that. He was really in love with her, and she hated it.
*When they were in senior year, Tony and Keisha's lives took separate paths. They both got accepted at Columbia university, and they were excited to go and to be able to see each other there, but things went down by the end of the school year : Maria got addicted to heroin, and Tony's mom was attacked by enemies of the Nocentis (cause Tony's mom is a nurse, that's how she met his gangster of a father. She still heals his men from time to time) and after all that Tony didn't feel like going to Columbia anymore. He couldn't leave his mom, he couldn't leave his girl.
*Keisha went to college and did very good. She liked the life on campus, and she liked to study. The life in Manhattan was nothing like in the Bronx, and she enjoyed that change. She felt like she could've gotten used to that. Everything was good as gold for her but nasty things were happening at the same time in the North of the city, in the streets where she had been growing up. Keisha's dad got sick, he was no longer able to walk, her kid brother, Joaquin, was becoming a troubled teenager, got arrested for theft and assault multiple times before the age of 14 and was sent to juvenile hall at 15. Maria had died from an overdose, and Tony was nowhere to be found. She didn't try to keep in touch with him ; when was silently blaming him because he chose to stay in the Bronx instead of going to uni with her. She understood her choice and didn't expect less of him, but she was mad, mad that he didn't give up everything to go with her.
*Keisha heard back from Tony at 23, when she was about to get her master's degree. She had a boyfriend, a PhD student from the same department as her, and everything was fine, until Tony reappeared. She agreed to meet with old friends from high school downtown, and Tony offered to pick her up so they'd go together. He knocked at her door, she opened, and all her feelings were brought back to life the second she saw him. It was a weird love at first sight ; falling instantly for someone you've always known. He was the same but he was different, it showed that he had grown out brutally from boyhood to become the man he was now. Also he was wearing a sleeveless hoodie, was visibly just going out from the gym cause his strong arms were glistening with sweat. She couldn't help but to stare like an idiot. He stared back at her "Campus life did you good ShaSha, you're beaming". It took like... One minute before things got completely out of hand and they ended up fucking each other's brain's out in Keisha's dorm room. They didn't know where that came from ; they hadn't seen each other in years, they had no idea what they were doing. They just knew they needed it, and that it felt good.
*Keisha had never been an 'easy girl'. The idea of sex always more or less repulsed her, and even though she had been dating a few guys since she was 15, she didn't lose her virginity before that day, with Tony. Once again he was her first, and it felt amazing cause that was exactly what she wanted. She knew she was cheating on her bf but she didn't care, cause Tony drove her completely crazy. What she didn't anticipate was the consequences of that raunchy afternoon spent on campus with her long time friend. Three weeks later she realised she was pregnant.
*Coming from a very Catholic family, and being the good and committed daughter that she is, Keisha renounced to abortion. She graduated with her bump starting to show. Her bf, thinking the kid was his, agreed to settle down with Keisha and help her raising the baby. They moved to South Carolina where he found a job as a teacher, Keisha gave birth to a beautiful boy that she named Noah, and they lived together for two years. They eventually broke up when Keisha confessed to her partner that he wasn't the baby's dad.
*Keisha went back to the Bronx only to find out the place she used to know had turned into a warzone. The Nocentis who had been protecting the neighborhood for decades were severely weakened now that the drug market had been stolen from them by an international cartel. Joaquin, Keisha's brother was out of juvenile hall and visibly not decided to go on the right track; he was now in bed with the local mafia.
*Tony was also irremediably on the wrong side of the fence at the moment. Keisha didn't want to know what he was doing exactly for his father and brothers, but the way people talked about him -the way they looked away when they mentioned his name- she knew it was probably bad. Very bad. When Tony saw Keisha coming back with her kid in her arms, he knew she would definitely always be out of his reach. He knew he was involved in very nasty shit, he didn't like or dislike his situation ; it was the way it was. He just knew it wasn't for her, he was ready to give up on her. He didn't understand why she came back. He had no idea he was the main reason.
*Shortly before the events of Blindsight ; Joaquin is killed by the Nocentis out of retaliation. Silver Nocenti is severely wounded after an altercation with an individual named Shaun Myers who happens to be closely related to the mortal enemy of the Nocenti family. Silver succumbed to his wounds a few days after that, in his hospital bed.
*When the 'Blindsight-extended-story-that-doesnt-have-a-name-yet' begins, Tony and Keisha are both mourning the loss of a younger brother, Keisha is doing money laundering for the Nocentis to pay back her brother's debts on top of breaking her back at the local diner to get money to feed her kid, while being blackmailed by Marco, Tony's older brother who's got his eyes on her. Tony is busy with the criminal stuff and the grief and the vendetta, and he doesn't know he's the father of Keisha's son. Ofc these idiots are still in love.
It's a mess but I think you got the pitch now *sweats nervously*
A cookie to anyone who managed to get to the bottom of this monster post without dying asphyxiated by all the fluff during the teen movie part at the beginning! 🍪

*invasive asks, don't have to answer if you don't want* I keep wondering what is the appeal of slasher movies (nothing wrong with them, just not my thing)? I never read The Cursed Child, what's that about and what do you like about it?
these are good questions don’t worry xoxo
a) i can’t actually explain my penchant for slasher movies in a tumblr-wise moral manner, bc obviously slasher is a genre that tends to be filled with shit like fetishization and a demonization of mental illness and whatever else i can’t list it all right now it’s just a very flawed genre.  so i can’t really discuss it on that kind of intellectually moral level - they are very much a guilty pleasure that i feel i’m permitted.
the thing is that they are such a cheesy b-movie genre that it’s hard to be feel supremely guilty about it?  obviously they’ve gained some mainstream focus that necessitates serious discussion about various harmful shit going on, and i could go more into it if prompted and if i consider myself capable, but they are also SO DUMB.  not dumb some are smart-ish but you always know what to expect from them, you can always expect some dumb caricatures to get slaughtered, expect some final girl expy to limp their way to survival, you can expect the build up, and if there’s a surprise then that’s just an extra treat.  i guess it’s kind of cathartic, being able to exorcise some of my more serious anxieties through them, even when they get positively decadent in the blood and gore and sadism
i guess that while i also like horror as a general genre and am super happy to discuss horror films that take themselves more seriously (ie babadook, get out, that kind of stuff i sincerely believe that horror has great potential for commentary that often gets overlooked or underdeveloped), it’s a bit easier to latch onto singular slasher villains fandom-wise (your michael’s and jason’s and i guess the freddy’s altho freddy can go choke) than it is for more concept-based horrors, bc you don’t NECESSARILY have to take them seriously and you can just have some fun with them (altho they do have their place in a serious discussion, like how michael and jason are horrors that stalk otherwise safe environments, or how freddy is literally thematically about violation)
it’s hard to really explain in a justifiable way rather than a guilty-pleasure way, and i can’t really argue that i’m somehow a morally superior person for liking them and i don’t want to bc that’s dumb and exhausting.  they just tend to be fun i guess.
b) okay so what cursed child is about is essentially the relationship between harry and his son, albus severus, and how they are both essentially similar in ways that, coupled with harry’s complicated legacy and upbringing, drive them apart and eventually bring them back together, particularly in their opinions on hogwarts - this results in albus jr attempting to one-up his father via what albus understands as his first failure (cedric’s death) through time travel.  things escalate from there.
honestly i think that cursed child is a really important continuation of the themes and lessons from the main harry potter series in a more grown-up sense, and i really hate how it’s been spoiled on this site by a bunch of dumb spoilers that never fit well out of context.
like part of the problem i think is that a lot of ppl online tend to a) overidealize harry as some sassy angel child and b) try to freeze him at 11-17 years old rather than consider how his adolescent experiences might map onto who is is as an adult father.  so when he says “sometimes i wish you weren’t my son”, they decide to ignore the context leading up to that moment (albus essentially needling and baiting harry and accidentally touching upon triggers relating to his past abuse, and the two of them essentially having two different conversations) and then everything afterwards (harry’s horror and guilt over speaking in a moment of anger and spite, as he was prone to in the main series, and his desperation to protect and apologize to albus in a time where he’s triggered for a sustained period of time and afraid that his greatest enemy is somehow returning), and decide to declare that jkr must not know her own characters if she dares to write harry as a “bad dad”.  as much as ppl like to try and discuss how terrible it was for harry to suffer abuse at the dursley’s, they sure seem to want to underestimate how it affects him in the long run.  and by fuck does cursed child dig into what harry went through with the dursley’s, particularly petunia!  he’s having nightmares about her and this gets discussed and ppl still like to act like this play misrepresents how he suffered!  it’s so fucking stupid!
i guess i also can’t really lie - i initially bought into all the bad hype surrounding the play when spoilers were released, tho i hope in a more muted way than a lot of ppl i followed, and i only really got interested when i read a particularly moving think-piece about snape, and then i knew i had to have it bc i cannot stress enough how snape was One Of Those Characters that i latched onto in my childhood, and how it felt good to be a bit vindicated in the face of how this website trashes him.  also i cried a lot w snape bc it’s such good closure for his character, it helps you understand how his character potentially developed in the light of the main series, and also i got a better understanding of dumbledore too like you got the impression after the kings cross chapter in dh but when he admitted his insecurities re: how he only hurts the ppl he loves in cc?  it literally like blew his character wide open for me, it really helped me piece together a lot of the things i was unsure about with him.  so i also think it provides a lot of retroactive understanding and clarification of the characters that some ppl like to deliberately misinterpret for notes
also ppl’s complaints about the time-travel plots are fucking stupid to be perfectly honest, esp in comparison to POA.  first off, poa did hint that it’s possible to change the timeline, cc established that we are working with very different time-travel tools than in poa, and thirdly in poa time-travel was a plot device and in cc it’s a thematic device so who even gives a fuck honestly.
basically: i think the play is a vital and important continuation and conclusion of the original series and its thematic elements, and if ppl don’t like then what the fuck ever but at least they can try to dislike it on legitimate grounds rather than things they heard secondhand or deliberately misinterpreted/decided didn’t fit with their headcanon
i can actually talk like.  a lot about this play bc there was a lot of what i liked and what i think tumblr should like if everyone could carefully remove their heads from their asses.  there are a few things i think could have been improved (while i don’t think it was necessarily baiting, i do believe scorpius/albus was a sorely missed opportunity), the play is more positive than it negative and i would kill to see it onstage.  i guess if ppl don’t like reading script it’s fine but honestly i loved the script, but i’m also fairly used to reading script so idk
also it justified my belief that hermione would be an awful teacher and i feel vindicated even tho i have not seen anyone talk about it tbh
also it made my mother cry (in a good way) and she loved it and that’s literally all the assurance anyone should need. my mom’s a good person and everyone should trust her.
