Fact the 1st- Lance is at his most competent when the train is going completely off the rails. He is adaptable, creative, flexible, and easily fits into any role he is given. If anything or everything goes sideways you can 100% depend on him to carry through. He is jack of all trades and is at his best under pressure

Fact the 2nd- Lance fucks up the most when he is trying to impress someone. All his braincells as well as any eye-to-hand coordination fucking die when he is around someone whom he really wants to be proud of him. He's the "This one is to end racism" vine guy. The higher the pedestal the person is put on, the more likely he is to screw up.

Conclusion- Lance and Shiro have tried cooking together once which ended in such a disaester that the kitchen was practically unusable for weeks. Shiro is convinced Lance cannot cook at all, while Hunk who has seen Lance prepare a 3 course meal on a $10 budget is convinced that the disaester was Shiro's fault thus quietly banning him from the kitchen since.
