I do love the netflix avatar in my own way because it provides me with enrichment in the same way brain puzzles do for chimps. Like something is WRONG here and it's your very special job to figure out why! And then you will get juice reward!!
#its been making me think about the cartoon a lot lately for the sake of comparing and contrasting#so thats great#it was a very good cartoon#i do actually think that its stupid to complain about how its objectively bad when an adaption makes changes to the original#because that SHOULD be the point of an adaption. to try things in a new way and somehow improve on the story#but i think its funny how this show is constantly like ''we're gonna take a DIFFERENT route with this character''#and then the DIFFERENT ROUTE leads to them driving the car off a cliff#we will not get to our destination this way bestie#out of all the changes theyve made to the original i think the most misguided and overall dogshit is how theyre portraying Azula#it annoying when people say ''theyre ACTUALLY writing her as a victim of her father's abuse this this''#''shes ACTUALLY sympathetic this time''#girl i hate it here#netflix show is a COWARD for showing Azula this way in season 1#not that its not somewhat in character. if ozai started playing mindgames with her she probably would start spiraling like this#the problem is that we shouldnt be SEEING IT!!#avatar is regarded as Baby's First Media Analysis for a lot of people#and boy oh boy there was a lot of analytic meat to Azula's character#but the netflix version? this is a skeleton!! bones!!!#like obviously if you were watching the cartoon as an adult it would be immediately apparent#that this 14 yo girl acting not only like a grown woman but a calm calculated genocidal tyrant is very concerning#and it makes her sympathetic by defualt on the grounds of being a child#but a kid isnt going to realize that!! Azula is supposed to be polarizing!!#youre meant to buy into the narrative that everything is easy for her. that no effort troubles her mind#her unflappable nature is meant to unsettle you. intimidate you. she has no weaknesses shes unstoppable and shes pure evil#as a kid who is still learning how to think deeply about things thats how youre to perceive her#and then. AND THEN!! then the show pulls the rug out from under you and makes you question everything#Azula's gradually unraveling sanity in book 3 is jarring and unnatural and it forces you to challenge your own opinion of her#you become uncomfortably aware that shes a victim too. after all this time youve spent hating her#just like zuko. just like the fire family child that you had already come to realize was ''actually good''#after that first watch its hard to decide how you feel about her. as a kid anyway. but its sad. its all so very sad

thinking about how akio sees his younger self in utena and wondering if there's any fondness there. doesn't change the horror of what he does to her obviously but i do wonder
#akio and utena#m#long ramble in the tags sorry:#the thing about akio is that he's so evil bit he's also so human#he has feelings. i just don't know what they are (if anything) toward his victims#he loves anthy at the very least i'm sure of that. even if he hates her too. just like she loves and hates him. the lines are blurry.#and i just. i have to wonder whether any of that extends to utena at all. we know anthy at times feels similarly about utena and dios#(and akio by extension.) the simultanious love and resentment. so it's not too unlikely i think.#like. even though he never had anything but bad intentions in getting close to her#i'm not sure it's possible to do everything he did and feel nothing#not that he has any meaningful amount of guilt or remorse for it. i don't think that.#and i obviously don't think he “loved” her in any of the ways she might have thought he did#but did he not care at all? did he not feel any kind of fondness or sympathy or just. idk. pity? for her?#whatever the case it wasn't enough to reconsider having her killed so you know. how much does that actually matter anyway#idk. i think about it a lot. how abusers are rarely entirely indifferent toward their victims#the role he's playing in her life is so fucked up but it IS a role he's playing and i wonder how much he you know... internalizes it?#how much does he believe the illusion of family that he invites her into? because akio DOES often buy into his own illusions.#(similarly i think it's possible that akio is fond of touga too. their mentor-protégé relationship is horrible and abusive#but that doesn't make it less real. you know? maybe real is the wrong word.)#when he talks in episode 25 about wanting utena and anthy closer that's obviously so he can continue to groom her#but is there something genuine there too? i don't know.#again. it obviously does not make anything he does better or even different. but it is interesting to think about to me.#on the other side of that coin does seeing his own past youth and naivete and desire to do good that he (maybe) once had#reflected back at him through her mean anything?#is there resentment there? that she is what he couldn't be? or more likely he just thinks that idealism is stupid.#either way it's something he wants to take from her. anyway ramble over.#i talk a lot about utena's feelings toward akio (familial vs romantic love and the way the two are intertwined in fucked up ways)#but not much the other way around. probably because utena is actually a sympathetic character whose feelings the show very clearly#wants you to analyze and think about.#which is... less true for akio i think. though he's still a complex character with complex motives. he's just harder to get a grasp on.

I said i was gonna rant and by the gods im gonna rant
[This is not gonna make sense and more me shrieking at the gods cus Loki is my blorbo and i hate that Rick fucked up and made him abusive when the first book was litterally implying that he cares about his kids and making him sympathetic.]
Tumblr media Tumblr media
Love how i completely forgot Heimdall was there too between reading this in school and getting home lmao. My phone guy is just that forgettable.
ALSO THATS WHY YOUR DOING THIS? THATS THE REASON YOUR GOING WITH RICK?
They got roasted too hard so theyre gonna kill two innocent kids, mulitate their corpses and use those corpses to chain their father while dripping acid on him?
It was (slightly) more understandable when it was cus Baldur (even tho hes probably happier with Hel anyways) died.
Cus like an eye for an eye.... (even tho that was much more than an eye, more like two eyes, a heart and a leg.)
Actually no scratch that killing Baldur technically was an eye for an eye if you think about it.
(Odin took three of Loki's kids, Loki took his son, his daughter in law and then the same son again when he refused to cry to bring him back. Thats also three. Thats one of the reasons i excuse Baldur dying)
I know Magnus probably either didn't realise what was going on here or if he did it didnt register in his brain the whole story. Which, fair enough, directly after this he listens to Kvasir getting cut up by a chainsaw (good, its clear if it weren't for him Loki, Narvi, Vali and Sigyn would've been probably fine) and then watches Alex get thrown out by his.....sperm donor. So what happens to Loki is not at the top of his concerns rn but i really hope he confronts Frey about it later. Cus Magnus has been shown to emphasize with Loki on this. AND THOSE WERE FUCKING CHILDREN! AND THEY WERE KILLED BECAUSE THEY WERE LOKI'S CHILDREN!
WHO ELSE ARE CHILDREN OF LOKI THAT HE CARES DEEPLY ABOUT?
SAMIRAH AND ALEX
Basically i want Magnus to yell at the gods the way Percy does. Because like Luke everything was probably WAS the gods fault.
And before you come at me with the whole 'prophecy has to happen' thing. Save your breath because most of you have no problem with blaming the gods when it came to luke in pjo and this is kinda similar.
Who was to say that Fenris, Hel and Jörmungandr would have caused ragnarok if the Aesir (mostly Odin) didnt take them from their home and seperate them?
Whos to say Loki would start Ragnarok if Odin didnt break their oath and take his children?
Or :
Let his mouth get sewn shut after he got everyone shit (Sif's new hair, Mjollnir, Draupnir, Gungnir, Skidbladnir and Gullinbursti) because suddenly oaths matter now, Odin.
Kill his innocent children (its not stated in myth or mcga how old Narvi and Vali were/are but the general consensus is that they were young), possibly made him watch said children get murdered (Sword of summer its stated by Loki that the gods watched in amusement as Vali disemboweled Narvi but that could be hyperbole) and had a snake drip acid onto his face.
If there was any good in Loki at any point (which there might be. He actually seems pretty chill in sword of summer) then its been snuffed out now.
Thanks Odin.
You signed your death warrant.
Whats that saying again?
He who tries to prevent fate is doomed to cause it?
Or something like that i cant remember the phrase.
I have more to say yet i cant quite articulate it. So im gonna end it here.
Also i am really in the mood for writing a oneshot of the day they caught Loki in Loki's—or maybe Sigyn's? Pov.

i get the frustration with so many villains now getting treatment like “oh they had a sucky childhood so actually you need to feel bad for them and not hold them accountable for their actions” but the counter of “this person was born evil and cant ever grow and its pathetic to assume that they can, also people cant be redeemed no matter what and this is fantastic writing actually” is so exhausting.
#like... no one is born grinning maliciously with a knife out the womb. no one starts out that way#and anything thats ever tried to portray a character that way at birth has only ever been ironically funny#idk its annoying when people are like ''actually its more interesting that the character doesnt have a motive for killing people''#like. coming off of bullet train rn but even ''this character otherwise has a perfect life but they accidentally killed and now theyre#fascinated with all the ways people can die'' is more interesting than ''idk thats just how they are *shrugs*''#like yes someone can have the perfect upbringing and social life and still turn out to be sadistic but you can still work with that#as opposed to ''they were born evil thats just how they were always gonna be SORRY''#like. idk go into that ''perfect social life and family''. what did that family value? what were the friends like?#what did that person experience outside of those things? what did they consume?#did their social standing actually breed some sort of entitlement to them? do they perhaps freak out if something doesnt go their way?#are they insecure deep down? does that drive them to it? are they a perfectionist? do they assume peoples feelings?#i remember reading this wc fancomic that explained why a character was evil and like her mom died#and the attention from her mothers death made her obsessed with being fawned over so she started medical abuse#and letting her patients die so that people would fawn over her the same way every time#and the op was like ''HEY before you yell at me shes NOT evil bc her mom died ok she was gonna turn out evil no matter what''#like... no no go into the emotional vulnerability implied there. go into the morbid introduction to slow death at a young age#go into the potential desensitization go into that. youre already willing to make her multifauceted and with positive traits#why are you afraid of implying shes even SOMEWHAT sympathetic and just want to say she was gonna do that regardless#and i fault the atmosphere around this stuff most of all like we should never have implied that giving a villain a reason to be evil#was stupid woobifying bullshit that was out of touch with reality#echoed voice

Kaveh definitely wants at least one child of his own. Partially to continue his family line, partially bc he himself loves the idea of having a family of his own. He would however like to move out of Alhaitham’s place before he even dares consider getting a partner to begin with. And the longer he stays there, the more stress he feels thinking about it. He even has sketched out nursery ideas and plans on how to raise them all set to go, if only he'd get out of debt fast enough-
Furina also really wants to have a child of her own. She adores seeing the families around Fontaine, and has dreamed a great deal what parenthood would be like. Nothing brings her joy than when children about Fontaine invite her to join in on the little games they are playing, leaving her giddy and smiling bright as sunshine on her way home. Of course she knows that to be a parent, she really has to get her shit together. One can't just rear a child on macaroni and residual payments, after all.
#hc; kaveh#//Mans is stressing#//He’s like ‘I’m damn near pushing 30; I should have my life together by now aaAAAA’#//Do like the idea of Haitham & Kaveh coparenting though#//Them raising a kid together; be it romantically/qp involved or just like#//Some Full House situation type beat lol#//Haitham does like helping kiddos learn after all. And it would make SO much a lot easier for Kav#//Kaveh would preferably want an even number of kids if he has a partner; so they don't ever feel lonely#//If it's just him & his kiddo; then yeah; he's a little more fine w only one. But he really wants them to have someone to fall back on jic#hc; furina#//She's had thoughts of having children of her own for damn near 500 years#//Which she knew would be Impossible; her role came first and foremost#//But now that she's free from that obligation; the thoughts came welling back up#//It's not entirely why she wants to stand on her own right and get better at so many things; but it is part of it#//She'd love the idea of having her own little family at last#//Though her Salon Solitaire buddies will have to do djbhgjfd#//She doesn't actually know how many she wants tho; maybe one if she's single; but whatever her partner is down for; she would be too#//She would be such a doting mom hjcbffg#//She genuinely wouldn't even mind not having a partner if it came down to it. She will most certainly be able to handle a kiddo on her own#//She thinks that; yet she also most certainly get overwhelmed Real quick at first#//Esp since she'd be such a sympathetic crier when it comes to her babu. & bc she already feels the urge to cry when frustrated#//But she would try her best#//Would absolutely consult with The Gals each and every time she needs anything#//Deffo would be the type to get matching outfits for her and her kid jffghh

What was more, there were whispers circulating that she was not even the King's child; Chapuys had been told that while annulling Cranmer 'declared by sentence that the concubine's daughter was the bastard of Mr Norris, and not the King's daughter.' There is no evidence that Henry ever questioned that Elizabeth was his; indeed, according to Ales, 'your father always acknowledged you as legitimate' and nothing could 'persuade the illustrious King that you were not his daughter.'
Young Elizabeth: Elizabeth I and Her Perilous Path to the Crown, Nicola Tallis
#hmm...so maybe ales can actually serve as corrorboration for that report by thevet?#i mean by statute that clearly was not true but i wonder if behind closed doors henry argued his own version of bona fides... probably with#rather mercenary motivations (securing betrothals for her for alliances) but...still#(altho thevet specifies deathbed and ales says 'always' so it's more incidental/sideways corroboration and that...might be a stretch#'chapuys had been told' = almost always preface to an L#does not name or even somewhat identify his own source here either iirc...#as he does elsewhere.#nicola tallis#something amazingly transparent about the correlation of his reports which portray ab in a sympathetic light#actually tending to be the ones where he cites 'many reliable quarters' or sources#and also being the one he personally believes in the least; as he appends to all of them#since im on a pgreg shading roll:#absolutely incredible that she tries to fashion a narrative in her kparr novel#where henry doesn't believe elizabeth is his and yet...puts her in the succession anyways??#so contrary to the standards of the time not to mention hviii specifically#'this random whore's daughter probably/might not be mine but let me make sure i sign an enshrined law that places her third in the successi#*succession....like...#the defining dimension of his kingship being fear of civil war. but sure. he's gonna play fast and loose with that. cus why not#his wife likes this child whose paternity - pgreg writes- him saying could be smeaton's like mary said#and that's apparently enough for him . she writes SUCH a malleable henry it's insane...#he is a claydoll masquerading as a man

obviously I logically understand why but I hate when homeless people asking for money have to lie about xyz illnesses, cancers etc that they have.
like ma'am I can tell you are an addict and I am still okay to give you some change because everyone has to eat to live. and if you spend that on something else that is your decision not mine. withdrawal can kill people too obviously and these are people that obviously are unable to access services to detox safely so like ... what is the issue.
why does this woman have to tell some extreme exaggerated story about having 4 types of stage 4 cancer and 2 past heart attacks and paraplegia (whilst walking) just to get a stranger to hand her £6 from his pocket ???

So it's implied that Cailan was planning on divorcing Anora to marry Celene. First of all it's interesting that the Chantry is so permissive of divorce but good for them I guess. (are there any canon examples of divorce??) Perhaps it's like the catholic church where if you have enough power/money you can appeal to the Divine for an annulment.
Second I think it would have added a lot of sense to Loghain's motivations if the implication had been the idea to have Anora assassinated to get her out of the way, even if it was only hypothetical. I don't think Cailan in canon would have been willing to kill Anora, but it would have been interesting for him to have been a character who would. Celene I think is definitely capable. Tbh a reveal like that would have added a lot of ~grey morality~ to the situation and made both Loghain and Anora more sympathetic characters, especially if Loghain suspects it prior to Ostagar.

i fear my love for art history will be corrupted by my italian renaissance class
#i've had this professor before and i love her lectures but. she's started assigning so. much. work#like if i didn't take this class this semester would be easy but now it's barely bearable#so i'm an auditory learner and that's great and all for lecture#but this professor keeps assigning 30-40 page readings regularly in the tiniest little font and we have to write a 3-5 page essay on it#the essay is easy but the reading. i just can't do it. i forget everything it's about by the next day#but we have to read at least one super-long chapter each week and on top of that i'm technically supposed to be going to art events#outside of class time. but i'm not an art major and i can't be on campus that late so i'm just going to take some Fs for that ig#and we have a group project that consists of a reading an essay a second essay a powerpoint another paper and we have to present#which that is happening this friday so yayyyyy (boooooo)#and then we have a really big paper/project to do that i'm probably supposed to be working on but i have not#ughhhhhhhhhh yes i'm complaining i'm allowed to do that it's good for me even. but still#i had the slightest feeling that i should've dropped out a couple weeks in and i should have listened this class is a nightmare#and i actually love art history. i love the subject so so much. and i memorize things that i'm told. i could literally repeat her lectures#but the fucking textbook makes everything awful#i feel bad for my partner for the group assignment bc she's so on top of shit and i'm behind#though i kinda lucked out w my partner. she's like in her 40s or 50s and she looks at me like i'm a lost puppy and that is great for#working together ngl. it means that she's sympathetic and thinks she has to take the lead#usually i take the lead w group projects bc i'm that kind of person but i'm busy so i will let her be in charge#ok done complaining if u see me on here yell at me about my project

Honestly I know I haven't ever stopped talking abt this but it's so hard not to when it's so blatant but the sexism in the tfa fandom is So Obvious when talking abt Wasp and BA in particular bc of how similar they are in character, at least on some level.
Like whenever I say Wasp is a piece of shit whose never been shown to have anything but condensed malice and need to hurt ppl esp in bootcamp I always get replies saying 'oh well it probably came from his own insecurities' or 'it likely came from his own truama' but then I say 'Maybe BA lashes out at Optimus and Sentinel bc of the fact the show has shown us they had real responsibility in the accident' Or "Maybe BAs constant body issues manifesting in her doing things that actively hurt her a lot is concerning and shows deeper issues' and suddenly it's me giving a character more sympathy than their canon version deserves or that since it's never stated or shown those events can't possibly be linked.
So like. Making up shit that's never even hinted at in canon to make a male character more complex, sympathetic and seem nicer despite their bad actions is fine but you're not allowed to even point out a link that could exist between canon events that makes a female character read as more sympathetic. Like. What??
If Wasp was 'probably dealing with insecurities' never even hinted at in canon why can't I say BA is dealing with insecurities that Canon hints at and shows. Why does Wasp get to have his character explored and given this whole expansive idea of a backstory and Complexity in fanon but BA is always put down and under explored despite being a more complex interesting character From The Start. I don't think I have to make the link but God.
#ramblez#anyways yea I think the so obvious and blatant sexism in the recent warriors books made me snap bc I'm gonna drop a hot take#BA would've made a better protag than Optimus in TFA And I think Optimus should've been a minor antagonist instead.#I don't mean as in they totally switch backstories/roles I mean BA comes back home discovers Sentinel and Op got jobs in the guard#and then is told bc of her disfigurement she can't be in the guard esp bc she's part organic now#and she ends up as leader to the crew bc honestly she just seems like a more interesting complex character than Optimus#and is a lot more sympathetic with like the rest of the crew#meanwhile Optimus is just kind of whiney in canon which I realize more on every rewatch#like everyone around him by far has worse lives than him but on so many occasions he's just so mean to them and doesn't care abt how they#feel esp in relation to sentinel#esp bc its mentioned being a prime is actually a big deal so like#he still has a nice rank UM still clearly likes him#his stupid whining gets worse every rewatch bc I realize#hes so much better off than everyone else there#and the worse thing is that his problems are the reason he constantly treats the rest of the crew poorly#esp bee which stings even harder like how has Bee not infinitely had a worse life than u OP#and u dare to treat him like hes entilted or arrogant??#the show also just takes such a sympathetic look towards Optimus and while it does give sympathy to BA more than the fandom does anyway...#Idk... did Optimus have to be the main character?#bc he only gets worse and less interesting with time and BA Has only gotten better with time on my rewatchs#just like this girl who ran away from home bc her home would hate the way her body was disfigured in a truamatic accident she had#only to have all these men living far better lives than her be like how dare u join the cons#AS IF SHE HAD ANY OTHER OPTION??#meanwhile the tragic part of Optimus is he was semi denied access into a club of corrupt elite assholes#and he then spends the series tryna prove himself to those assholes#defending his shitty friend even when it means its gonna allow his friend to contunie abusing his power and hurting others#Mmmm#and in the end he fights for the success of those assholes#And then all of Cybertron loves him anyways but dw hes still super complex#bc hes insecure or smth

imagine complaining ceaselessly that the writers hate your favorite character because they suffer at points in the show / experience emotional turmoil, only to Then turn around and get mad that the writers won’t show you your fave suffering through the effects of an illness / experiencing medical trauma.
