Hey everyone, long time no see! Apologies for the months of silence - but I’m back now! I needed to take a much needed step back from HOCO and focus on some other projects of mine (as well as play a ungodly amount of BG3 hehe).
On my break, I also decided to kinda tear down HOCO and rebuild it from the ground up. I wasn’t really pleased with how the story was going and I think that really contributed to the burnout I felt with the project. I still would like to include the premise of the various life stages, but may go about it in a different way than I had initially planned - things to think about more I suppose!
Anyways here’s some behind the scenes of what I’ve been up to - starting with revisiting the cast’s (+ Nico’s) main outfits and updating them :3

We heard about what Nico’s collection of Buttercup would be if he was a yandere, but what about those who are already yandere for Buttercup? I remember Henry has clothes and Polaroids, but what else? And what does Lyra<3 have?
I've been meaning to expand on this, so I'm glad you asked! ^^
For HENRY, it's still very much what I've mentioned before - polaroids (both ones you know abt + ones you don't), articles of clothing from over the years (interpret however or whatever you like :3), as well as various other 'memorabilia' such as borrowed pencils, matching bracelets, thrown out crafts / items, etc. If you have it, most likely than not, Henry has it too, or has stolen it from you.^^;
Funnily enough, LYRA isn't too big on taking things from you directly - she's very sentimental when it comes to her collection in regards to you; old ticket stubs from midnight showings, a smiley face you drew on a sticky note back in middle school, a poster of your favorite movie / band hanging on her closet's ceiling (even if she doesn't really care for the subject matter), etc. Lyra's collection is that of cherished memories of time spent with you - a collection that can't be taken from her.

What all jobs can we decide to have in game?
I've answered this before somewhere, but I'll just reiterate here again! ^^
There are 4 job paths you can choose in game, those being:
Rewind Rental - You're a clerk, checking out customers' items and stocking up on movies, games, and records.
Grace's Diner - You're a waiter / waitress, serving your patrons a variety of homestyle cooking, collecting tips wherever you can.
Community Pool - You're a lifeguard, days spent in the sun as you watch over patrons, ensuring the highest quality fun and safety.
Camp Amber Creek - You're a camp counselor, your hands full of rowdy kids as you provide both a safe and fun environment to all your campers.
Henry will also work alongside you at whatever job you choose, but there are others you will work with as well, such as:
Nico at Rewind Rental.
Sandy at Grace's Diner.
Lyra at the Community Pool.
And Elijah at Camp Amber Creek.

Any ideas for what a modern au would look like? Would the characters be any different do you think? If yes, how so?
I love modern au stuff, I definitely need to post some of the art I made for it at sum point :3c On to your question tho -
HENRY: Fairly similar for the most part, biggest change I can see is him being obsessed with modern technology, especially social media and the like. Big fan of tik tok for sure! For sure cried when One Direction broke up.
LYRA: I see Lyra staying the same personality wise, but instead of her trad goth look I can see her having a more mall goth look (definitely a prospect I wanna draw soon hehe). On that note, would absolutely adore Hot Topic and would probably work there!
ELIJAH: Barely any change at all if I'm being honest - still very down to earth, so much so that he'd still have a flip phone while all of his friends have smart phones. A hint of weeb - big fan of Dragon Ball Z.
SANDY: BIG GAMER - has a massive pc set up that she put together herself! Still runs DnD sessions but moreso over discord! Has a whole server for it and everything, one you definitely have a invitation too.
BONUS - NICO: Definitely a reddit lurker - always lurking in replies of anything and everything. Has sent you at least a few dozen 'kys' on twitter LOL. Would still work at a record store or something along those lines. If not that, I also see him being a bit of neet :3c

Also factoring in that this is if they were like normal (not yans) too ^^
Pretty Average for the most part - may have played sports still in school but never made Varsity or anything on that level. Would have been involved with clubs moreso!
Would be apart of Sandy's DnD group and actually enjoy hehe - he's a big nerd, and actually is able to explore genuine interests of theirs in this au :)
Parents stayed in town + aren't neglectful; very involved in his life and act as a strong support system for them, allowing for Henry to not rely on you in a heavy, unhealthy manner.
While still introverted, Lyra grows out of her shell just a tiny bit + is more cordial with others; although, you're still her closest friend by a long shot.
She's able to 'actually' pursue her dream of being a rockstar / musician, as a main point of her mother's words had been in ridiculing her passion for music and the like.
Parents stayed together, and Lyra's part of a more complete family - giving her a basis and support for growth + beyond.

I was taking my weekly scroll through everything about my babies cause I slurp your content up as soon as it posts - but! I don’t think anyone has asked- do our two Yan Besties stalk Buttercup or do they see no point cause they spend so much (hypothetical) time with Butterup and if they do, then how?

As for your question, yes, both Lyra + Henry are not above stalking you!
While Lyra is more lowkey about it (given that she values her alone time, and as such, thinks you're the same way hdsfk), but there are times where she has followed you around to see what you were up to! It was more prominent when you guys were younger, especially once Henry moved in + started taking up more of your time. ^^; She tends to follow you around in her car at a distance, but doesn't linger long.
Henry is the worst offender out of the two; if there's ever a time where you're not with them, they will find out about it, even if you don't tell them. Henry's stalking style is uncomfortably close; you swear you saw something out of the corner of your eye or perhaps a faint breath on the back of your neck, yet when you turn to look, there's nothing there. It helps that Henry naturally blends into his settings, especially in big crowds.

soft lyra content makes me so incredibly insane it is like i am rattling the bars of my enclosure
Tossing this in the same manner a zoo keeper tosses a slab of meat to a lion:
"You watch this shit willingly?"
You can't help but frown, glancing at Lyra as you bury your hand in the popcorn bowl, clutching the kernels within your grasp. "I don't make fun of the movies you watch, Lyra. Least you could do is let me enjoy this."
"Oh, I'm not saying you can't enjoy it." Despite the slight boredom in her voice, Lyra's eyes never leave the screen. "It's just a bit too sappy for my taste."
You roll your eyes, popping a kernel in your mouth. "Now I see where your lack of romance stems from."
This gives Lyra pause, her eyes turning from the screen to meet yours. "I can be romantic."
"Sure you can." The words leave you in a snort, your hand patting against her back.
Lyra scowls, fully facing you as she leans forward, a hand creeping up to hold onto your chin. "I can be romantic as shit, sweetheart."
Despite the closeness, you don't waver. "Prove it then."
Lyra hums, tilting her head slightly as her hand glides upwards, her fingers brushing against your cheek. It's soft, delicate the way she strokes you, and a part of you wonders if some entity had taken ahold of your girlfriend because surely, this can't be her.
Lyra presses herself more into your space, her chest brushing against your own as her lips hover above yours, her eyes darting downwards before glancing back up, her pupils large, devouring. The expression she looks at you with is nothing short of love, short of absolute devotion. It takes everything in you to not lose your breath.
"How's this for romantic?" Lyra's voice is low, her breath fanning over your lips.
You swallow, a slight flush spreading across your cheeks. "I stand corrected.."
Lyra hums again, a small smile peeking out before she presses a chaste kiss against your mouth, her hands lingering against your cheek as she pulls away.

How does Nico treat MC exactly? Is he outright mean/rude to them or just a lil cold and distant? What if Lyra is around? Does she even know that nico dislikes MC and how does she feel about it?
Sorry if thats too many questions! You dont have to answer them all, i just love your characters they're all really cool 🥺🖤
For the most part, Nico is just stand offish and cold towards mc: it's not like he's actively trying to rip your throat out, but it's still hostile at worst and awkward at best.
With Lyra around, Nico doesn't really change how he acts towards you; he usually just finds somewhere else to be away from you (if that's possible). If not, he's definitely grumbling but doesn't instigate anything.
Lyra is pretty aware of Nico's 'disdain' for you: afterall, he's more than well aware of her feelings towards Henry, so why wouldn't he do the same with someone he hates too? It's unfortunate that that someone is you, but still, Lyra understands to a certain degree.
And if she's being honest, a part of her is relieved that it seems like she won't have to compete with her brother for you, something that would very much put her between a rock and a hard place hehe :3c

HENRY: Surprisingly, not too over the top! If we're being honest, they'd probably accidentally let it slip!
LYRA: you'd have to confess first Lyra's feelings would eventually enter a boiling point + she'd act on impulse, not really thinking in the moment + would just spit it out.
ELIJAH: While Eli would rather cope + avoid any confrontation, he'd eventually work up the nerve to just tell you how he feels - if anything, to get it over with faster so he can move on (he goes into it fully expecting rejection </3).
SANDY: Would very much frame it as a 'haha, unless....?' joke but would lead into confessing her feelings for you.
