Considered making Butch or one of the other Rowdyruff boys. Though Pro. Utonium does interest me. I'm working through a show rewatch.
i am vibrating with excitement. butch is my favorite ruff boy, though i might be biased. (he is also buttercup's favorite.) the professor is amazing too; i think he has a lot of potential since he was a well-established, nobel-prize winning scientist before the powerpuff girls. the changes in lifestyle and how he's seen in the community after would be so interesting to explore. either way, the show is SO good. i hope you're enjoying it, whether or not you decide to make a blog. if you do, i'm game to help out if you need it!

Your top wanted ppg character? If someone was aiming to make one these days
oh my god, all of them. there's like three (and a half) of us left.
mostly though, i'd sell my right arm for
the professor
robin snyder
mitch mitchelson
ace d copular
all of them fit really amazingly into other fandoms (ace is part of both the ppg fandom and the gorillaz fandom) and have such interesting stories. they would genuinely be so much fun to write (for you) and so much fun to write with (for us).
are you getting my hopes up?

I love that reblog of yours where Mojo admits he'd choose Buttercup over HIM if he needed to. Considering how strained their relationship is in the OG show, it's oddly wholesome. I love how he just says it's not fair because its never fair to choose one person between two people you love.
they're siblings despite their FUCKED UP relationship
@jojoisnomo please i'm begging come back to us

(Question for the mun) Was I the only one who hated everyone in Townsville in the PPG movie for how they treated the PPG? I know that the PPG destroyed a lot of stuff, but it's not like they meant to and it surprised me that the girls forgave everyone after all that. It rings hollow when they treated them like trash and only crawled back when the girls save the day.
NO YOU WEREN'T AND YOU'RE VALID
Their shitty treatment of the girls throughout the series is a major part of my characterization of Buttercup. Because it isn't just the movies where they treat them like shit, although it's an obvious example. It's when where three grown men dress up as them, and the girls get arrested without the benefit of having their rights read or any benefit of the doubt, despite how often they've saved the town. It's the mayor calling the girls out of kindergarten fifteen times in one episode to deal with shoplifters. It's the mayor getting popcorn to watch fights the girls might not win. It's the mayor and Ms Bellum refusing to pay the girls when they asked for a one-time payment of $2,000. It's the way there are absolutely no children at the girls' birthday party. It's the way the whole town has formed mobs against the girls several times.
It doesn't even stop at the girls. The whole town pit the girls against the Gangreen Gang when the "gang" was literally homeless children looking to have their basic needs met. Did they go about it properly? No. But the oldest one, Ace, was sixteen. The youngest, Li'l Arturo, was ten.
I could go on.
The town only gives a shit about the girls when they can benefit from it, and beyond that, they literally could not care if the girls died. The only person who consistently gave a shit about the girls was the Professor, and he, too, has a sketchy relationship with them. He's tried to kill them several times. Yes, he was under the influence of supernatural creatures, but that's enough to let the girls know that they aren't truly safe even around their father.
The girls destroying the town isn't even that big a deal, nonnie. Because listen, Monster Isle was already there. The town was already getting destroyed. There's a ready and capable SWAT team that we see deployed every time the girls get arrested; they were the ones fighting the monsters before the girls were created, and they were probably losing lives at the same time. The girls destroy the town, yes, but they save lives, and they prevent worse destruction from happening.
Townsville treats the girls like shit, but they pretend to love them so that they don't feel like terrible people. All of Townsville is full of citizens who view the girls as weapons. That's all the Powerpuff Girls are — weapons to be used, even at their own expense.

Hi, same anon as before, how does Buttercup feel about Ms. Bellum?
Generally, very positively.
She and her sisters will refuse to tell the Professor that he was ever not enough, and she'll die defending him to her last breath, but it was so important to them to have a positive female role model as they grew. She was part of the reason that when AWSM tried to deny the girls membership, they didn't back down. She's part of the reason Blossom wasn't afraid to take charge and Bubbles wasn't afraid to be soft and Buttercup wasn't afraid to stand up for herself.
Yes, they all know that, when it comes down to the nitty gritty, Sara Bellum is the one in charge. She's the one who makes sure funds go where they need to go; she's the one who writes legislation and passes it into law; she's the one that does the Mayor's campaigning. She is the mayor of Townsville; she has all the not-fun parts of being in charge. The Mayor gets the money and the name and the fun, but at the end of the day, no one really respects him. The girls eventually grow to understand that the Mayor is more malicious than he outwardly seems, but they don't actively think of him as dangerous. He's just a gross perverted old man.
Bellum is the one with the power. Bellum is the one to fear. She literally beat the shit out of Sedusa bare handed, and Sedusa is a succubus. Bellum's just human.
She is smart, caring, and badass all in one. She was the one who stood up for the girls when no one else would, and Buttercup genuinely admires her for that, for being a voice to the voiceless. She admires her for taking an interest in three girls who were in no way related to her, and stepping in as a parental figure when needed, even though she was never asked. Buttercup loves spending time with her, too. (Once a year, Bellum and the girls have a karaoke night that ends up on YouTube every time, and they have so much fun.)
Bellum is the closest thing the girls have ever had to a mother, and although Buttercup will never admit it, that means the world to her. She refuses to say or hear a bad word about Ms. Bellum, just like she refuses to entertain anything negative about the Professor.
Even though, at the end of the day, Buttercup knows that if it came down to it, she'd kill them both to protect her sisters.
Because at the end of the day, Bellum can be controlled and manipulated just like any other human can. Just like her father was, the several times he tried to kill his daughters. And Ms. Bellum is a complicated character, more so than we might want to believe. She is overqualified for an assistant job, but she took it regardless; she refuses to allow the Mayor's sexualization of her change who she is and how she dresses, and she uses his shit to her advantage; she is a peaceful woman, but a talented fighter; she loves the girls, but still overworks them in the name of the public good.
Anyway, long story short, Buttercup loves Sara as best as she knows how, with her constant distrust of everything and everyone.
Someone write Sara Bellum.

This is meant to be positive, but going through your blog is like encountering my childhood friend as an adult again bc even though she's fictional, BC really was like a childhood friend and it felt like I was bonding with her
honestly this is the kindest thing someone could ever say about my portrayal of buttercup. thank you so much. i'm glad i could do her any amount of justice.

I really dislike how the reboot focused on comedy rather than action. I don't think I've ever seent the girls do anything important to the plot at all ever since the reboot aired. Seeing three girls utterly demolish the villains, the criminals and the monsters around them was the reason I watched the show and why I fell in love with Buttercup: not only did she bring so many iconic and great fight scenes, I saw some of myself in her as a black haired girl with a short temper.
there was so much comedy to be had with the action; that's how the original did it. the comedy was overt as well as subtle. the visual puns! c'mon. it's almost like new cartoons don't expect their viewership to be capable of any kind of thought; they expect parents to stick their kids in front of the tv without even watching it alongside them. old spongebob and the og ppg and atla and all those shows all required thought to get some of the jokes, whereas the new shows just spoon feed regurgitated jokes.
the new ppg was just a flanderized version of the original and it was heartbreaking for so many people, who like you and myself, saw themselves in this sassy girl who wasn't traditionally good, but was still a protagonist. i hate the new ppg, and i hate the cw ppg.
the only valid version of the ppg is my version, thank you for coming to my ted talk.

I don’t know if these are all separate anons or not, but I’m going to answer them all here anyway.
Thank you for asking my ask, mun! Buttercup and her sister were being too generous by protecting the citizens even after the shit they gave them. If I was Buttercup, I'd just tell them to shove it and take my sisters with me lol
Here’s the thing, though, here’s the thing. They tried. They were about to go on vacation once with the Professor to the Bahamas (Speed Demon, S2E12A). They were so excited that after school, they raced home — except apparently they raced home too fast, and they had travelled forward fifty years in time. Him had taken over the world.
All the citizens of Townsville, including Ms Bellum and the Professor, blamed the girls for not being around to protect them. They couldn’t even go on vacation without the world falling apart on them. Eventually, they turn back time to right before they started the race, but they are not without their trauma. They absolutely refuse to leave Townsville, even for a weekend, because they’re afraid of causing the literal apocalypses with their absence. The episode ends with the girls and the Professor on a nearby beach, as if they aren’t basically in a gilded cage.
They don’t leave because they know they can’t. They want to. They were looking forward to that vacation — to some time away from school and the mayor and the town that only likes them as far as they can use them. But they don’t get it, and they never will.
I didn't realize it at all when I was younger even though I held a massive grudge against the citizens for treating Buttercup, Blossom and Bubbles, but you're right! The idiots that the girls protect weren't always being mind controlled when they turned on the girls. It shows that they don't care about the girls as long as they get to live and how little they trust them. Most of them are so thick headed, ms. Keane from the movie included
They just turn on the girls for fun, apparently. They constantly call them “bug eyed freaks,” and it takes just about nothing to get the citizens to hate them. We are constantly told that the town is grateful and that they admire the girls, but we are shown the opposite over and over again.
The fact that I was born in the same month as the girls except on the 15th means a lot to me :0
You wanna hear a little secret? Their August birthday is entirely fanon, based on the release date of the initial Whoopass Girls and the first Powerpuff Girls episode. I would know. I created it. Here are the posts where it happened, five years ago. I was also born in August though, so I love it.
The law enforcement doesn't do anything in Townsville either. It's always the PPG who does all the work and that's a lot of adult pressure on 3 five year old girls. Wow, Townsville's citizens are gross except Robin, Miss Bellum and some other exceptions.
The girls literally spend so much of their time doing the fucking cop’s job. ACAB, even in cartoons, bestie. Sometimes they will literally stop and watch the girls do shit, while eating donuts. The only time they do anything is when the girls are the ones being arrested, and it’s never the normal cops; it’s always a specialized SWAT team flying in to surround the girls.
Do you know what that means?
1) Townsville has a trained and active SWAT team. 2) They have made plans to incapacitate the girls, even at five years old, should they ever become a threat. 3) Townsville is perfectly equipped to handle literally everything the girls deal with; they just don’t want to.
They would literally rather have children do it. They don’t see the girls as any sort of human worth empathy.
I'm still pissed at the Townsville citizens for talking to a bunch of kids who didn't know better about their powers that way. Its not like the town wasn't being destroyed before, so fuck them. The PPG deserve citizens that actually see them as people and won't turn on them
Exactly, anon! You’ve hit the nail on the head! The thing is, Buttercup is actually the one responsible for their superheroing. A monster pissed her off and she punched it; her sisters were immediately enthralled with the idea of using their powers for good, to defend the city from monsters. Her need to defend herself accidentally incited the cycle of abuse they’re in now, and Buttercup will never not feel guilty about it.
You just made me realize how much the mayor used the girls for asinine and simple stuff, like.. can't Ms. Bellum do it for you? She definitely doesn't paid enough to be the mayor's secretary and assistant, I feel bad for her too and I still haven't forgiven the mayor for treating the girls like trash too
I challenge you to watch the original show and take a shot every time the Mayor calls the girls to open his pickle jar. He does it so often. Sometimes, he even calls them out of bed to do it. You do that, and I’ll hold a funeral in your honor after you get alcohol poisoning.
Also! It’s canon that the Mayor hired Bellum based exclusively on her looks, despite her being extremely overqualified. I’m pretty sure she has like, a doctorate. Her name is a pun on the word cerebellum. She’s wicked smart. Even the Mayor calls her “the brains behind the man,” and when the girls are playing at Mayor, one of them plays Bellum and is the one that’s actually in charge. The whole world knows that the Mayor is a shitty person and a shitty legislator. I have no idea how he keeps his job.
Actually, I do. Here’s a headcanon about it.
Tbh I like the idea of Buttercup becoming more and more aware of the fact that she and her sisters are more or less being used by their peers and the citizens and it's interesting and totally in character for her to be even more disillusioned and distrustful cause. I enjoy the way you're writing my favorite childhood character.
This is the nicest comment at the end of a lovely conversation. Thank you so much. Please feel free to come talk to me any time, on or off anon. And thanks for ranting at me and letting me rant in return. I love it.

I feel validated and even more connected to Buttercup after I found out that your BC likes pitbulls and is a Californian. I lived in California my entire life and I'm obsessed with pitbulls, especially if they're a little on the chonky side :D I even subscribed to this pitbull on YouTube because he's such a good Boi
The girls are canonly from Cali, actually! It's such a small detail that I don't expect anyone to know it. In Knock It Off, the Professor gives his old college roommate, Dick Hardly, directions to their home, and he mentions two highways that pass through California: the 210 and the 101. He says, "It's about fifteen miles east of the 101. Take the 210 to the Harbor Freeway exit south. It's the third house on the left. Bye!" Granted, I thought the girls were Californian before I rewatched that episode, so I, too, felt immensely validated.
Also, pitbulls are such a BC dog. They're such good boys.
