Last wednesday I went to the Wednesday Demonstration on the memorial day for "comfort women", 14th of August. "Comfort women" were young girls and women who were decieved and later forced into sexual slavery by the Japanese military in so-called "comfort stations" during the Asian-Pacific War (WW2). These women were from all kinds of countries, but mostly from Korea, which was a collony of Japan at the time. Most victims didn't survive the end of the war. It is important to not forget this history, as the Japanese government has still not properly apologized to the women, nor given reparations! This plastic puppet is a replica of the original peace statue sitting in front of the Japanese embassy in Seoul. Eu não tenho palavras para descrever a experiência que tive lendo esse livro, muito menos para descrever o que eu senti após a leitura. O livro Herdeiras do Mar é com certeza um favorito do ano. Eu estava com muito medo de ler ele, por se tratar de um assunto muito pesado, porém assim que inicie a leitura e fui me apaixonando! Eu não consegui desgrudar desse livro essa semana, li nas horas que eu tinha e nas que eu não tinha para ler. Apesar de ser um assunto muito pesado, é uma historia apaixonante! Que encanta qualquer um que ler, e nos faz refletir sobre as coisas que aconteceram e que ainda acontecem com muitas mulheres, e crianças, que são ameaçadas diariamente por abusadores. Conhecer a história de mulheres fortes e que estão sempre lutando para a sua sobrevivência e de sua família foi o ponto forte da leitura. Eu amei e indico para todos vocês!
