so @charroblanco got me curious about how hollywood stars were supposed to behave in the 1930s and 40s and holy crap there were so many rules. obviously, this only applied to hollywood actors and actresses and may not have been the same for mexican cinema or musicians, but still...
"Today, actors and actresses can work on one movie with one studio, then move on to a new studio for their next movie. But it was common during the Golden Age for film studios to discover talent and sign them to four- to seven-year contracts." It is also worthy to note that actors under contract were not allowed to turn down roles. Period. Even when the studio knew a movie would do bad.
"Many of the Old Hollywood stars you know and love—Marilyn Monroe, Rita Hayworth, Judy Garland, the list goes on—use stage names picked by the studios. MGM even held a contest to find and pick a name for their new star, Lucille LeSueur. The winner? Joan Crawford—and she reportedly hated it."
"Male actors... [were] expected to exude the ideals of a gentleman at all times. As a result, messy divorces, womanizing behavior, or anything illegal could have a serious impact on their careers."
"Their love lives were often arranged. Sham dates, as they were called back then, were a way for a studio to drum up publicity for upcoming pictures featuring their stars. While promoting Babes in Arms, Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland acted like a couple, but in real-life Rooney was a well-known playboy."
"Some of the rules put forth by the censorship [of 1934] were about on-screen kisses, as they were not meant to look too 'lustful,' which meant that they couldn't last longer than three seconds. Which explains all of those intense but short lip-locks in old movies."
this is just a few of them, and there were plenty more restrictions towards women than men, but talk about a totally different time. yikes.

reading about the iron kingdom in xvi lore and, in actual history, there was a territory known as the iron kingdom; prussia ( although no longer a political entity, it contained parts of germany, poland, and russia ). according to the xvi wiki, the political climate of the fictional iron kingdom was that of a monarchy, but basically only in name as much of the power was derived from the crystalline orthodoxy and its head priest.
i say this because i feel like it parallels a lot with the political struggle between the tsar and r.asputin, whom the tsarina took great favour with and whom was ultimately the downfall of the r.omanovs' reputation in the eyes of the people.
so basically i could, in theory, put the r.omanovs as the reigning monarchy in the iron kingdom and r.asputin could be one of the priests following the crystalline orthodoxy.

i think im going to place most interactions in my post-canon au verse, unless plotted otherwise. for those that haven’t taken a look at my verse page, post-canon au is basically the scenario of “if dimitri took the money and anastasia returned to society as the last surviving child of the tsar”. i think it’ll be a little easier for interactions outside of her own canon, especially other disney muses since most of them are royalty as well. that being said, if you’d like me to write anya ( as she was before her memories returned ), please don’t hesitate to reach out and let me know! im more than happy to accommodate!

i am. aware that the r.omanovs ( collectively, as an empire ) were heavily anti-s*mitic and i am definitely not arguing that ( really, i'm not. the crimes against the j.ewish community were horrific )! however, i do feel that the r.omanov kids ( OTMAA, specifically, in this instance ) are often conflated with n.icholas (and a.lexandra)'s decisions when it comes to political and social issues, when in reality the kids probably had little to no say in what went on or what decisions were made, or what they were told happened.
i went down a rabbit hole trying to find anything regarding a.nastasia's personal views on things and didn't find much in my quick dig, so while it's not impossible she might have shared these anti-s*mitic views, i am choosing to believe she did not share them. as is the nature of historical fiction, and fiction in general!, i am choosing what i want to use and throwing out the rest.
i know this blog isn't for everyone, and that's okay! i would never expect anyone to sacrifice their comfort by following. i know this blog might make some people uncomfortable and i am doing my absolute best to be as respectful as possible when writing a.nastasia. she's very near and dear to me, both in the fictional setting of the don bluth film and as a real-life person that i've been researching for, going on, a decade now. if you have any questions or concerns, my askbox is always open.
