Because sometimes I like to combine my different brainrots, I was thinking about who Riftan's godly parent would be if he were a demigod.
And initially, because he's a fighter in D&D, and he's really good at strategy and has been fighting a bunch of wars, my brain went to Ares or Athena, but NO. He wouldn't be either; he'd be an Aphrodite kid! He loves more fiercely than pretty much anything else, pretty much everyone thinks he's absolutely beautiful (and he is), and he's never wanted to fight; he literally entered a tournament not because he wanted to WIN, but because he wanted to POTENTIALLY see the woman he loved. He was willing to give his knight's oath, something he can only make ONCE in his life, to Maxi to be able to say her name and touch the hem of her skirt. He's an Aphrodite kid.
I also LOVE the fact that he would be an Aphrodite kid on the ace spectrum, too. So yeah, I'll probably be giving him a P.JO verse and doing a write-up of that. Cause he wouldn't have ever made it to camp; he would have had to figure everything out on his own, like he always does.

@missallanea asked: ❛ ah, so you aren’t heartless after all. ❜ / Agnes at Riftan

The Princess's words are nothing Riftan hasn't heard before. He'd been accused of being heartless more times than he could count since he'd become a mercenary at age twelve. Of course, people probably would have been more surprised at his seeming lack of emotions if they'd realized how young he really was; most tended to think he was older than he was, especially after he'd hit his growth spurt.

"Only you would think me heartless for attempting to keep my wife out of the danger this war poses," he frowned, not looking up from the maps he was currently studying. Not that he needed to; he knew the area they would be going quite well. But it didn't hurt to be extra prepared.
He didn't care what Agnes thought, but he was far more worried about Maxi than he was willing to let on. Yes, Hebaron and the rest of the knights had made a compelling argument as to why they needed her to come with them…., but Riftan still didn't like the idea that she could be hurt, especially since she was trying to help them.

Riftan is not afraid of dying. There was one point when he had been, when he was about twelve years old and almost died from accidentally swallowing venom from a creature of the dragon subspecies, when he saved Maximilian’s life when they were children. It was the first time since he could remember that his mother actually cared for him.
But after her death, and after he ran away from home to become a mercenary, he no longer feared death. In some ways, he sought it out with how reckless he was. He would very frequently think things along the lines of ‘would it be so bad to die?’ showing that he hold very little regard for his own life.
He fully expected that he would die during the Dragon Campaign, as well. Riftan never anticipated that not only would he live through the war, but he would be the one to kill Sektor. It was one of the reasons he wanted Maximilian to go to Calypse Castle, because if he died, then at least his home would have someone to care for it in his stead.
While he’s not nearly as reckless now as he has been in the past, he still cares very little for his own life, valuing others far above himself.
