" Listen..."
A weighty beat of silence. This electric hush that clung to the very air. Suffocating. Amethyst hues wavering then, awash with emotions, expressions, almost unreadable. Fixating heavily upon the other.
This lingering ache. Undeterred. So painfully aware, in that quiet moment, how different they were. Atem was akin to Ra. Stunning and radiant, so luminescent it very nearly hurt just to look upon him. All those gentle smiles so easily given to the thief. Time and time again.
While Khalid was merely as Apopis, a demon that carved only chaos. A life painted, stained, in bloodshed. Right from the very start. Gouging his revenge through the land, unable to let this hatred, this sorrow, simply slip from reach.
Perhaps it was only silly dreaming. Perhaps trying, in vain, to fill these many gaping holes. Quiet as many demons, the voices, that tore asunder...
" Maybe it IS just wishful thinking...That anyone would want to stay with someone like me at all... I know I'm far from a good person and still carry this hate and probably always will......But...Even still... "
Even if the answer shattered his heart...This distant hope that lit a jet black sky. A single radiant star. Compelled to try.. Lithe digits digging from one pocket from his crimson coat, a golden ring beset with rubies. Amethyst hues flickering up then, finally meeting the other's wavering gaze.
" Atem...will you marry me...? "

The young king was in his chambers, putting on the last bit of his kohl on his eyes as today he decided to go with a blue coloration, and had stopped what he was doing when he heard how serious Bakura had sounded when he had told him to listen.
He paused as he could tell the air around them had even changed. Something was going on with the man and it worried him for a moment as he continued to listen to the man. It was clear on his face that he wasn't sure what was he had been going on about as he didn't believe that he far from being a good person. Everyone, even him, had the capability to be kind. He'd seen the man's kindness and heart when he never thought he would get the chance being what his father and uncle had done to his family and him. The history Bakura had, some he still know, was a tragic and brutal.
A lot of times Atem had just wanted to show the thief he was not the same. That he just wanted him to understand that he wanted to make up for their wrong doings and address them even. How else was his kingdom going to learn? So he faced them head on. Addressed Bakura head on.
But doing so, the pair ended up getting closer than any of the formed bonds he had. They were the oddest pair. Polar opposites at times but, Atem had took that as a learning opportunity. Bakura had grew up differently than him, he saw things in a different light and he had embraced those emotions without hesitation as he had wanted to grow as a person and to aid in helping Bakura grow as a person. To see the world wasn't so bad as it had treated him for so many years.
Funny how with that, the two had fallen in love and the Pharaoh couldn't be happier....until today...

Atem's eyes had widened the second he had heard the man's final statement and question to him. Had he heard that correctly? Granted, the two were quite private with their relationship but, this? It had him in shock.
He wanted.....He wanted to marry him?
The emotions that ran through the smaller male was all over the place. From worry that maybe he wouldn't be good enough for him to pure joy. He had wanted this with Bakura for quite a few months to hear that the man had wanted to marry him was something he thought he might not even get in this life. He was his own disaster of a man at times. He wasn't always this radiant sunshine Bakura had seen, he was also an extremely stressed man with pain and emotion running through him that he mentally blocked out when it came to dealing with certain people. He bottled things up, kept them to himself.
Yet he still wanted this with him?...

An enormous smile had appeared on his face as tears had whelped up in his eyes as he then pulled Bakura to him to press his lips right up against his. Keeping him like this for a solid minute before pulling away just to break the kiss, keeping their faces close as ruby orbs had stared deeply into lavender hues. The male smiled oh so warmly at the man as he looked at him, cupping Bakura's face affectionately.
"I would love to. Yes. Yes I would love to marry you."
