“As I have previously stated, her human visage gave an unassuming veneer that I had foolishly overlooked. I didn’t particularly care a thing for her, deeming her a mere annoyance that could be ignored. I was wrong,” he sneered, ceasing the motions of his digits as he shifted forward, propping his elbows over his armrests and folding his hands just below his chin. His scarlet eyes narrowed. “I don’t think well of her, but perhaps she may be of some use to me. She’s a threat, certainly…but more so to this planet than anything else. Something triggered that form. If I could find out triggered her into becoming that monstrosity…she could make an effective weapon against this planet, if needed…”
His frown curved upward into a small smirk, haughtily resting on his sharp features. “But if nothing else, sparing her did provide me with some satisfaction, getting to hold it over the head of a certain baker…”

[I'm late, let's pretend Kakarot is fashionably so… yesterday was super busy but I was kinda constructing this in my head while I was working]
Usually, it was anywhere from moderately tricky to downright impossible to teleport to Meredith’s mountain, no matter where Kakarot was in relation to it. Early on, he had assumed it was because it was so isolated, and trying to find her energy in the middle of nowhere while it was unfamiliar to him was a challenge… but even after he’d gotten to know her, for years, it was still a struggle to pin down her specific ki-signature, and as time went on, he had grown more and more suspicious as to why that was. Why he could locate Roshi on his island, or Dende at the Lookout, or even Yemma in an entirely different dimension, as easily as breathing, but whenever he tried to locate her, it was like sifting through some kind of thick, oppressive fog.
There had always been something weird about her and her farm… it had just been easier to pretend there wasn’t, and Meredith had made every effort to encourage him to keep looking the other way. He supposed he knew why now. …Well, he knew the source of the weirdness, at least; it still didn’t explain why Meredith had felt the need to keep such a tight lid on it. Least of all from him.
She’d been trying to protect him… but if anyone needed protection and assistance in regards to this situation, it was her.
Which was why, despite his mixed feelings about her trying to deceive him and pull the wool over his eyes for so long… despite the worry and exasperation and offense he was grappling with, he still showed up on the path leading to her home at her summons, wearing a smile and some well-worn training gear, expecting to be put to work.
Over one shoulder, he had slung a fresh, gutted fish about the size of one of the horses grazing in the nearby pasture. Bluish scales peeked out of the canvas tarp he’d loosely wrapped around it (to keep the blood and the smell out of his shirt), glinting and still wet from the stream up at Mt Paozu. In his other hand, he held a wax-sealed bottle of single-malt whiskey. He didn’t expect Meredith to partake in the former, but he figured it could at least feed her guests, if anything, and she could get some much-needed reprieve out of drinking the latter.
“Hey! Sorry I’m late,” he called out, once he was within earshot. He noticed, immediately, that far more people had come than he had ever seen at Meredith’s house all at one time. And there were a fair few faces that he recognized.
He froze in shock at a familiar mane of spiky dark hair (and another Saiyan head with none to speak of), before slinging the huge fish down at his side.
Tumblr media
“Did you invite my brother…?” he asked blankly. How on Earth did Meredith even know his brother? Hell, Kakarot could barely say he knew him... He was equally surprised to see Nappa, and Tien, and the Time Patroller Mariko, and though he noted that Lila was conspicuously absent, he thought he spotted a face he might have glimpsed in one of her photos... and hold on a minute; was that Cell he'd been sensing?
...And here he’d been afraid that he might be the only one to show up.
Meredith sent still the moment she noticed Kakarot through the haze of sweat and music. She rubbed her eyes, thinking she may have somehow put wood stain in them at first.
Why was he here? Didn't he hate her, like Lila did? Already tired, and overwhelmed, Meredith put up no resistance to the lump in her throat, and tears blinding her.
Her body moved on its own, dropping her bucket of mortar on the ground, in favor of slamming into Kakarot with enough force to gain the attention of everyone there.
No words, just raw, smothering emotion. Meredith's ki was always hard to find, but here? Now? Now it burned brighter than the sun. Something changed here.
The source of the corruption actively poisoning her had been eliminated by Beerus. Zamasu helped with getting her, and the fragment, back on their figurative feet.
Clamped around Kakarot was the teenager he met nearly a decade ago. The corruption having stolen that bright, warm, smothering love bit by bit over time. Minus one arm, and plus so... so much more wisdom.

Caught In The Web - P1: Adrien
AN: So this is gonna be a mini series that goes along side Funnel Web and I’ve been working on it for a while. It’ll be characters that aren’t Marinette since it’s her pov in Funnel Web. If you want to be on the taglist for this let me know but it’ll be a separate list from Funnel web just because sometimes you want to follow just the main story and sometimes the side shoots aren’t all that interesting and now I’m rambling. This is Adrien pov during parts 1-3. These aren’t going to be posted on any kind of schedule like Funnel Web is so let me know if y’all like it ^-^
Adrien was starting to get concerned. Okay, well he’s already concerned, but he didn’t know how to bring it up, especially since it was sort of his fault. No, it was entirely his fault.
Lila’s lies were calming down, which was good. She had stopped name dropping every chance she got, and she hadn’t been promising introductions to any celebrities. Most of the topics up for discussion had been school drama or gossip. He knew it would happen eventually, and he was relieved that it had finally happened. But Lila wasn’t who he was concerned about.
He was concerned about Marinette. At first, anytime Lila would start spouting off, Marinette got into a defensive stance: shoulders pulled back, chest puffed out a bit, head lowered and to the side. To be honest, she looked terrifying. He would silently plead with her not to do anything when she got like that. Or she would look to him when Lila was giving her back handed compliments. He honestly didn’t know what she wanted him to do. But she always looked helpless and he couldn’t bear to look at her. But she was strong, right? If anything was really wrong she would speak up about it. It was Marinette, strong willed and stubborn. Nothing could stand in her way.
He also had a plan. Sort of. He was writing down all of the things Lila had said, and highlighting and numbering all of the things that contradicted each other. So far he had gotten to forty-eight separate statements that had cancelled each other out. They were all dated and timestamped, and there were probably more that he hadn’t gotten since he occasionally missed classes.
Now? He didn’t even notice when Marinette was in class most of the time. She went from drawing the room’s attention to her just by being there to practically being a shadow. It reminded him of, well, him just after his mom disappeared. If he didn’t look up in the morning to see if she was there, he wouldn’t know. But Marinette was strong, right? She’s fine. She would say something if she wasn’t, wouldn’t she?
“Kid, she’d not okay.” Plagg said. He was focusing on a translation his tutor had given him to work on
“No, she’s not.” Adrien said. “Wait, who are we talking about, Plagg?” He dropped his pen.
“That Meredith girl.” Plagg waved his paw dismissively as he floated by.
“You mean Marinette?”
“Sure, why not.” Adrien knew he was right. But he didn’t know how to bring it up. How would he even approach her? ‘Hey Marinette, I know I said take the high road but now you’re being hurt so maybe the high road isn’t the best? Also sorry for ignoring it for a few months but I thought you would stand up for yourself at some point even though you clearly needed help.’?
“Hey kid!” Plagg suddenly shouted.
“What?” Adrien leaned back in his chair.
“Bugs is calling.” Adrien lost his balance. He scrambled to get up and make sure that he didn’t have anything in his teeth.”
“Why is she calling? She never calls. Do you think she has a lead on Hawkmoth? What if she knows who I am?” He gasped. “What if she found out and she’s calling because she doesn’t want such a high profile partner? What if-”
“Kid!” Plagg interrupted him. “Maybe you should answer her and find out.”
“Right. Plagg, transform me.” After a quick flash of green light he answers his baton. “Hey LB, what’s up?”
“Hey Chat Noir. Um, are you busy?” He immediately had alarms ringing in his head.
“Never too busy for you, My Lady.” She looked like she wanted to fidget. “Did you want to meet up?” ‘Oh no. She’s crying. Why is she crying?’
“Please?” She squeaked out. If it weren’t so, like that, it would almost be adorable.
“Yeah no problem. Top of the Eiffel Tower?” She nodded. “I’ll see you soon.”
His baton felt fifty pounds heavier in his hand, and the only thing running through his head on his way to the tower was ‘oh no.’ Over and over, very quickly. He saw a flash of red. Flowers. Maybe a rose would help her? He picked one and hoped it’s tender wouldn’t be too upset with him.
He saw her swing up as he was approaching and decided to give her a few minutes head start to collect herself. She was as close to freaking out on the call as he had ever seen her. Except for Stoneheart, but he wasn’t going to hold that against her.
He wondered about how he would approach her, but when he saw her, she was deep in her head. He hadn’t seen it to this extent. Sometimes he noticed that Ladybug would zone in when she was trying to figure out her Lucky charm, but this was different.
“My Lady?” He gently touched her shoulder to get her attention. He felt her jump a little, and pulled his hand back. Her eyes were wide, and he couldn’t read her face. This was bad. She was always readable. “What’s the matter?”
Adrien was absolutely not prepared for what happened next. Ladybug, his Ladybug, the girl who was practically indestructible, curled in on herself completely and broke down in tears. ohnoohnoohnoohnoohnoohnoohno.
"Hey, Ladybug?” He asked. She didn’t respond. I am not the stable one in this partnership what is happening?? He tried putting his hand on her shoulder see what would happen.
The answer is nothing. Nothing happened. She kept crying. Adrien was entirely out of his depth on this one. Hugs. Hugs are comforting, right?
He pulled her into a hug and let her cry. She cried for what felt like twenty minutes. What was happening that caused her to break like this? Adrien held onto Ladybug and let her cry.
What was happening? This was, this was, what even was this?
“I- I-” She tried to hiccup. “I just- I-”
“Hey, hey.” He interrupted her. She wasn’t ready to talk just yet. He could let her collect herself, and he himself, for a few more minutes. “It’s okay. Take your time Bug.”
He watched her calm down. Her breathing evened. Okay. He could do this. He could be there for his Lady. Didn’t he always say that? Well, in his defense, she never really took him seriously so he stopped as well. Kind of? He never expected her to take him up on this. Not that he was upset. He just had no clue about what he was doing. Oh boy, this should be fun.
“I just,” She sighed. “God, I needed to do that.”
“Do you want to talk about it?” She looked at him, and he could feel her tensing up.
“Kind of.” She was starting to pull away. Adrien brought her in closer. “But only if you’re okay to listen to it.” She added on quickly. She was scared and unsure of herself.
“I would listen to your problems all day if it meant being able to help you.” He was her partner. Why wouldn’t he listen to her problems. He would listen to her recite the numbers of pi if she wanted him to.
But instead, he listened to her as she told him about this one classmate who had a grudge against her. Who lied about her. He listened as she told him that her friends hadn’t listened to her, and still won’t. He listened as she said that she had hoped that her lies would have been pointed out by now, but that she had accepted it. She told him that it had been months.
Months. He had been her partner, had seen her a couple of times a week and he hadn’t known. And it had been months?
He heard her apologizing. Why was she apologizing? She hadn’t done anything wrong. Ladybug had pride, he wouldn’t fault her for trying to hide her pain. It hurt him that she felt like she had to hide it, but he never wants her to hurt.
Ladybug had slowly pulled herself away. Not too far, but far enough that he could turn his head, and she could turn hers, and there’d be plenty of space between them.
“Ladybug, I think you did the right thing.” She tried to let the problem solve itself. Problems usually do. But this? “But if this is how it’s turning out, I think you need to make a change. The lies aren’t taking their course. I really think you should talk to someone about this, someone who can help you in the situation.” He will always be here for her to talk to, but he doesn’t know her outside of their transformation. She needs someone who can be there when it’s happening. He can’t do that for her. He would in a heartbeat, but...
“I just, I don’t know what to do.” Her voice was small. Not quiet. Not weak. Just small. It broke his heart. This classmate lies, but lies never hold up. He knew from experience. They get tangled and twisted, they’re hardly ever kept straight.
“What about tripping her up in one of her lies?” It was something he had been trying to do for a while now. He heard her sigh.
“I don’t know, maybe.” She looked at the sky. “Thank you Chat Noir. For listening to me. I really needed to tell this to someone.” She started to get up.
“It was my pleasure Bugs.” He got up too. He thought he saw her smile a little. Okay, well, at least she feels better, if only a little bit. That reminded him. He pulled out the rose and offered it to her. That got her to laugh. A small one, but he’d take it.
“Will you ever change?” He wouldn’t focus on how she sounded close to tearing up. Instead, he would focus on how soft her smile was in the moonlight. How she looked to be closer to peace than when he first showed up.
“Never, My Lady.” He watched as she twirled the rose in her fingertips. “I would offer to walk you home, as any Lady deserves, but you’re strict on the whole secret identity thing. So, I’ll take my leave.” She looked at the rose. “Will you be okay?” Once she nodded, he turned and left. He felt bad about leaving her, but something told him that she needed time alone before she left.
When he got back to his room and detransformed, he looked at Plagg. “I think you’re right.”
“I’m always right.” The little god said. “What was I right about?”
“If Ladybug’s situation is bad enough to make her seek out comfort, how is Marinette doing?” He looked at Plagg, and he could feel his eyebrows furrowing.
“Kid?”
“Yeah?”
“You’re an idiot.”
Let me know if you want to be added to the taglist for this series ^-^
