ALSO how is Elias' relationship w his kids?
Elias has 3 kids!!!
His oldest is his daughter Julia who is about 22 and married to her husband Oliver. They live in the old family home that they all lived in prior to elias and Jeanne’s divorce, which Jeanne’s new husband purchased for them. Julia always sticks up for her dad and is very supportive, letting him live with her for as long as he needs after his workplace injury and losing his job. He is very close with her but doesn’t necessarily always appreciate her as much as he should, which is especially evident when she’s pregnant and elias is too scared of becoming a grandfather to really face her, which leads to an alcohol problem which drives her and the rest of his family away. Overall their relationship is very positive though
His middle child is his son Leo who’s 18 and is a huge sports fan, loves football (⚽️) and goes to a sports college in America. His uncle (elias brother) is a hockey coach/ex hockey player who garnered some fame before an injury and Leo lives abroad with him and his family only coming back to visit occasionally. Leo and elias don’t have the best relationship, they were a lot closer when he was younger but as he got older he related less and less to his father who is probably the least athletic guy in the world. They have a pretty typical father/teenage son relationship if a bit distant, but they still talk and they don’t have any reason to dislike each other. Elias does feel guilty and kinda jealous that his son seems to prefer his uncle over his own father
His youngest son is named Matt and is 10 years old. Matt is autistic and doesn’t speak but he loves art and drawing, and he and elias are really really close. Elias was originally taking an art course before he switched to become a detective after his friend died but he still does art in his free time and Matt is absolutely obsessed with his dad’s work and wants to be just like him. Elias and Matt can communicate very well through just body language or whatever and even if Matt doesn’t live with elias anymore (he’s too busy with work after the divorce) elias always does the school runs and spends time with all of his kids, but especially Matt when he can
So overall his relationships are pretty good, and they’re his top priority after his work. His mental and social decline is documented through his relationship with his kids getting more and more distant and strained
