A 📸 of my first ever performance. A duet of “Islands In The Stream” in a 1982 talent contest. I thought it was at Cobb and Co in Takapuna (prob 3 traffic lights and 1 pink panther deep) but think it was actually The Duke Of Wellington. We ended up winning the contest. I had no idea I was going to be in one 10mins prior to this so it def wasn’t the amazing performance that won us the contest. I’m gonna show my cards on this post. I’m ok with it. ...I’m also gonna resist the urge to resolve that opening line at the end of this post, and/or quote @_kennyrogers at some point... I am VERY ok with that too. . I “started” #pigsflyshop in 2013, or at least opened the #etsyshop around then. I claimed to be a leather worker, because I bought prefab stamps and smacked them into a material that scared most people off. I could paint. I faked it. I wasn’t a #leatherworker I WANTED TO BE a leatherworker. We all have to start somewhere, and that’s ok. . This was one of the first pieces I EVER tooled freehand. I was hungry to learn. I had the idea to start making wild free-form boot cuffs. This one was my first. I named it, “Dia De Los Rosas”. I have had it since 2013. I tried to sell it. Carried it to every vendor event I’ve ever done. Cleaned it. Updated it as I learned new skills. This piece taught me how to use edge kote on dobbers, FIVE YEARS after it was made. 😳 ...It sat in my web stores at a million different price points... it never sold. . This week, it finally sold. I briefly thought about canceling the sale and refunding the customer. I immediately missed it. But I remembered the me that made it, the me that WANTED TO BE a leatherworker way back when. Why I keep practicing. So... I packaged it up, smacked it on the ass, and sent it home. Haha. Damnit. . Don’t be scared. We’ve all gotta place a bet at some point.
