WIP wednesday thoughts:
willow cabin is utterly fucked because i changed my intended ~moral~ halfway through and now im stuck trying to integrate this shitty political intrigue plot into what should’ve been a more interesting story about éowyn adapting to life in gondor. hugely fucking annoyed by it and just totally unsure how to proceed. i could significantly increase the chapter count, but im worried that because the initial framing device was this bandits shit that closing out that plot and then still going for ages afterwards would be really shitty? i honestly don’t know, it’s so difficult. really i just need someone to read my outline and tell me if im being a dumb twat about it lol
meanwhile I know exactly where I want to go with AFTA but for some unaccountable reason im stressed that my ass is gonna get roasted for the direction i want to take it in. it’s all based in both tolkien’s personal politics and (some) historical precedent, but im worried people are gonna see it as a marysue-ification? but also im hoping to do sthg of a sequel to afta to practice the political intrigue writing so i don’t make the same mistakes i did in wc, and to do that it would require this specific set up in AFTA. im gonna put my AFTA thing under the cut so don’t click read more unless you’re gucci with potential AFTA spoilers!!
this royal affair au is definitely gonna get published at some point but im trying to decide if i want to do ~tasteful~ smut that drives a longer narrative or if im really just gonna do a whole 3,000 word build up to some run of the mill, old fashioned PWP lmao
okay so i have spent a Lot of time thinking about what impact i think éowyn and faramir would have on each other in a pre-ring war setting, and the honest to god conclusion ive come to is that they would somewhat inadvertently egg on each other’s (wildly divergent) idealism.
faramir’s an idealist politically in ways that, as Big D rightly points out, are not super productive in a wartime scenario. but so far as im concerned, the war doesn’t feel as warlike until they have to blow the bridge at osgiliath. until that point, there’s not really anything to say that faramir’s whole throwback optimism isn’t a perfectly justifiable position to have.
but what that idealism is and how it manifests are two really important considerations. the crux of his idealistic politics is that he looks at númenor and sees something valuable in it, and looks at gondor and sees a lot that he thinks is fucked up. outside of articulating a general angst towards the glory hunting, it’s not like he’s spending time talking about his specific policy prescriptions. however, we do know a few things that can guide us to a more coherent reconstruction of his politics:
he’s pretty rigidly hierarchical (when it’s convenient for him). as seen in: him basically telling sam to fuck off and stay in his lane in WOTW, and in how and when he chooses to refer to his father as ‘father’ vs ‘my lord’ or ‘lord of the city’ in the aftermath of the osgiliath retreat and then before he gets his ass sent back there. i don’t want to go into too much detail here but if i go with this i’ll definitely justify it more thoroughly in the footnotes.
so we’ve got faramir’s emphasis on hierarchy and his occasional (when convenient) belief that the upper echelons of a hierarchy are there because they’re intellectually and/or morally better. or, maybe to remove the causation from that instance, because they are in those upper echelons, they have an obligation to be more morally/intellectually upstanding, and the people in the structure below them have an obligation to show deference. unless you’re faramir and you’re dealing with denethor in which case that all goes out the window. classic.
we know there is some sort of nascent pseudo-democratic tradition of popular sovereignty in gondor. we know this because faramir asks the masses at aragorn’s coronation if they’ll accept him as king. faramir is a lot of things, but he is certainly not a progressive political radical, and i cannot imagine any situation in which he cooked up that rigmarole himself. that then implies to me that it’s building on some sort of political/cultural expectation in gondor. so: some sort of relationship to popular legitimacy. the people of gondor are subjects, but perhaps not as totally passive and unconsidered in the power structure as we might assume given the comparability to feudal europe/asia.
given those two things, i want to use AFTA to argue:
that faramir, in looking to assign blame for the faults he sees in gondor, would not directly assign blame to the lower classes, but rather to the aristocracy, because he will have seen them as failing in their moral obligations to the people they rule over. this is not to say that he isn’t fucked off about The People™ valorising war, but i think he’d take the position that they couldn’t possibly be expected to form those values and opinions of their own volition, and the fault lies in their rules. faramir: not gramscian.
faramir lacks any power that is non-military, and even that is of questionable worth because the rangers seem to be fairly distinct to the general structure of the army, and are not exactly a huge force.
faramir lacking any political power isn’t necessarily a huge concern for him (as in, he’s not actively trying to change that), because he knows he’s not going to lead a moral revolution and isn’t interested in taking up the responsibilities having political capital would engender because he’s stuck dealing with this war, that he fucking hates btw has he mentioned that he hates it?
however, given that he is apparently eminently versed in lore and scholarship, he is probably keenly aware that there is this incipient notion of popular legitimacy somewhere in gondor’s culture. it’s not, for most of his life, knowledge that actually does anything for him, but it is there.
éowyn, meanwhile, doesn’t really have many strong political convictions (yet). not because she’s a dumbass or whatever, but because she looks at court politics as kind of a farce, and doesn’t believe that power legitimately emanates from anywhere that isn’t a Big Fucking Army. and why, strictly speaking, would she not think that? the event that brought about the creation of her kingdom was not careful, soft spoken negotiation, it was her ancestors being in the right place at the right time with a Big Fucking Army.
and the internal politics of the Riddermark actually seem to be fairly stable, all things considered. i sincerely doubt that Théoden or Théodred are having to negotiate complex politicking in the way Denethor and Boromir are. so where, then, would éowyn see that kind of political behaviour outside gondor? with gríma.
éowyn, then, will see the immediate contrast between gríma (backroom dealer, manipulator extraordinaire) and théoden (owner of Big Fucking Army). and gríma goes and fucking wins that fight. that forces éowyn to confront the fact that, jesus christ, maybe there are different types of power.
at the same time, she’s going to be in minas tirith and needing to cover for théoden letting his shit get wrecked. not just because she’s prideful, which of course she is, but because if denethor/gondor think that théoden is too weak to hold up his end of the bargain, why would they ever go help the Mark? éowyn, seeing that théoden’s f-f-fucked, knows that there’s a very very good chance the Mark will need help.
against her feelings about courtly politics, she starts to accept that she’s going to need to do something to get power in gondor. not anything substantial, it’s not like she’s trying to overthrow anybody, but enough that when push comes to shove she can force denethor to help out the Mark (if he doesn’t do so willingly).
but, as ive sort of already shown in AFTA, she’s a bit of a dogshit diplomat. good for a little big-brawny-enforcer stuff, but not exactly brimming with cultural sensitivity. by the time she realises théoden + the Mark are fucked, she’ll have burnt quite a few bridges with the gondorrim nobles, and it’s not like she’s the sort of person to go running cap-in-hand begging for mercy.
so: she has to look elsewhere. and wow! a chance for faramir to do his favourite thing — talk about his opinions! and by god, his weird idealistic politics are… actually kind of helpful? because he’s like, look, you’re never gonna be a diplomat, but there are other ways of consolidating power. and one of those ways is by appealing to The People™. so why not work that angle?
and actually, we know that this is a viable route for éowyn because hama, in arguing for her to take up the mantle of théoden’s heir when théoden and éomer fuck off to helm’s deep, basically says that The People™ love her and would have willingly chosen her to lead them.
we also know, based on faramir’s middle men speech, that the people of gondor and the mark have grown alike in nature. not totally unreasonable to then think that the people of gondor would take to her like the people of the mark did.
éowyn, then, in various ways begins to try to win over the people of minas tirith. i need to do a little more research on this bc what ive got on the practicalities of that so far are a bit, uhhh, sketchy, but the least jargony way to describe this is to point to when natalie dormer’s character in GOT gets out of the carriage to go hug and kiss some babies. (marc bloch, eat your heart out)
this would later segue into a potential sequel where, while trying to secure the way for aragorn’s coronation, éowyn actually plays an interesting role because she’s fallen into this incidental Diana, People’s Princess™ role and so is better positioned than almost anyone to go advocate on his behalf. wow! cool! éowyn getting to be politically useful in more ways than just getting hitched!
so yeah. that’s how i am thinking it might play out. this would obviously have a rolling impact on the remainder of AFTA and how certain (🔥) events pan out later, but i think that building up part has to begin pretty much now, narratively. also this lets me get in a reference to “and then her heart changed, or else at last she understood it” and have it not be almost entirely about wanting to shag faramir, but actually about her gradual evolution from valorising war above all else to being like, hmm, maybe there are other ways of being powerful. which i think still largely captures the “no longer I will vie with the great riders” stuff, but more subtly and without feeling quite so… deferential, I guess? Like it’s not that she’s swapping one form of power (violence) for nothing (gardening?? healing?? tolkien accidental articulation of necropolitics??) but swapping violence for a different type of more sustainable power.
yeah. that’s the take, basically. who fucking knows.

It’s MJ, so of course I don’t have to tell you that her Dean is spot on, every detail is perfect, and the sex is mind blowing. Just - read it. But be aware that once you start, you may not be able to stop

this fic is a super cool band!au that has andrew and gang playing placebo songs and neil as a solo singer. there has great use of a non-linear timeline. be prepared to feel all of the feelings
this fic is such an emotional rollercoaster, especially with the jumps between when andrew and neil are together and broken up. the juxtaposition of happy vs bad times made everything that much more impactful. i was reading so quickly just wanting to know what was going to happen next.
parts i enjoyed:
”being back to numbness is not exactly a revelation, more of a failure” oh oof i feel this. that feeling of ‘i had hoped this would not happen but i am not surprised, just disappointed/resigned’
”he can’t stop writing songs even in his own thoughts” woah i actually relate to this a bit. a couple years ago i was writing letters to someone and i found myself constantly drafting letters in my head, narrating my thoughts to them even though they weren’t around
”smiles andrew, sharp, all teeth and no joy whatsoever” oh nO andrew ;-;
”there is no way he is going anywhere neil josten might even breathe the same air he’s breathing. no way. no, nein, njet. fifteen minutes later, he’s signing a new contract” LOL i’m interested, is this due to pressure from the rest of the band or… maybe a little bit of andrew hoping to see neil?
”the anxiety that should come with that realisation is missing, this is a moment he will remember […] maybe what he means to say is that this is a moment he will want to remember” oh this is so soft. i’m so happy, but worried because i know this all goes wrong
hhhh andrew writing about neil!! very cute. also cute is “this is the first time andrew actively asks him about his album and it shows in a way neil looks taken aback, but hopeful”
honestly reading about andrew when he’s crazy high and numb is so hard
aaron going after that technician is a great moment. even though the twins have such a rocky relationship, at the end of the day, aaron will protect andrew and andrew will protect aaron and i love seeing that.
the conversation between andrew and renee is so interesting. they have such a complicated, yet simple relationship, always knowing how to communicate without saying things, when to push and when to back down. seeing andrew feel comfortable enough to finally talk about neil is a good example of how much he trusts her
PICTURES OF RIKO KISSING NEIL EXCUSE ME WHAT IS GOING ON (i secretly love this because i love angst)
this first meeting between andrew and neil is really interesting to read. it’s basically a one-sided conversation but we learn so much because even though he’s not speaking, we get to see andrew’s thoughts and how he reacts to everything and oo i love seeing both their tempers coming out, they clash in a way that works so well because it almost balances each other out
and with that, he turns around and makes to leave. andrew… andrew is a bit star struck.” oh the irony here
soooo does neil watch andrew leave and follow him to the roof? or does he just happen to be there (because i really want to believe neil followed him, but also wanted to give him some space)
”his monsters (nobody should ever know he calls them his, in his mind)” cute! and also i was not surprised at all because this is very in character. andrew is so possessive and, in his own way, caring
”for once, andrew wants to be selfish, he wants to think about himself and finally, finally let go of song to say goodbye. it will either kill him or free him. he hopes it’s the latter, he used to hope it’d be the first” oh this is so sad, andrew’s longing to do something for himself for once and the reminder of when he was suicidal
”this feels like discovering aaron’s addiction and locking him in that bathroom, like watching him go in and never come back out. like breaking the door open and blowing air into his lungs and hearing nicky frantically dialling 911” wait a second. so what happens in this universe?
”the reply said: i’m sorry, one day you’ll understand” oh my goodness there has to be something more going on. what is riko threatening/blackmailing neil with?
the way that you write the relationship between andrew and aaron is really interesting, there’s so much unresolved tension. love seeing aaron finally stand up for himself and share the song he wrote
interesting the timeline you’ve gone with, having betsy and andrew not that close to each other during aaron’s trial. the trial itself… it’s very painful and i hate to think that andrew has to share such a vulnerable part of himself to save his brother
”sometimes i think about how it would be if you were the one tilda chose, wish it, even.” woah this is something that would be cool to explore. how each twin would have turned out differently if faced with the opposite situation, because although they’re twins, they’re still so different. how would it affect everything that happens in the books? i wonder if andrew would have joined exy
”exit wounds, though, is a trump card. just like neil. it will either set him free or kill him, andrew has the uncanny suspicion it’ll be the last one” hhhhh how dare you do this to me
oH DANG WHAT DID YOU DO TO NEIL? i really like that you have this from andrew’s perspective, keeps everything so suspenseful. what the heck this scene is so intense.
hmm seth’s death is interesting. to have everyone present and seeing their reactions, especially aaron’s, makes it that much more impactful
”as all over the place and exuberant as nicky is, he’s also quite observant. if he weren’t his cousin, andrew would have to eliminate him” haha this is exactly something that andrew would think, with his odd sense of affection.
”andrew realises more and more with each word that if he were to sign this, he’d be stepping from a cell into a cage” love the way that you described this
i like that you had andrew meet with bee, it’s comforting to think that through this rough time andrew still has someone around that he trusts to share with. who won’t judge him and just wants the best for him
ahh seeing the events leading up to neil’s tour gives a lot more understanding of the thought process of neil’s decision and why andrew is reacting the way he is
i actually can’t believe kevin. first of all, it’s actually pretty impressive that he has been able to hide riko contacting him for so long (although i suppose that andrew hasn’t been as observant as usually since the call). to think that he knew for so long about who neil was but didn’t say anything??
andrew and neil’s march 2018 fight is a big oof.
”he is done being carved open like this, with no knife or pain or malice. with interest and intrigue and plain, simple curiosity. it should feel like being carved open, it’s more like being gently torn apart” woah the wording you used for this is so amazing, i love these lines
”if you could see yourself the way i see you on that stage, you wouldn’t even think about that. it’s a risk, but one that’s worth taking, i should know about that” oh neil, you always know where to hit and how to hit the hardest
”it’s been a very long time since andrew has felt fear outside his nightmares, this unease settling in his stomach is certainly not welcomed. it also isn’t anything new” ahHHHHHHHH
neil’s performance was great, i liked that he left stage immediately and just ran straight to andrew. how did neil free himself of riko? was it since nathan was killed?
this was a really interesting fic, the changes you made from canon made it unpredictable in a good way and kept me wanting to know more. i think i probably would have found it even better, had i been familiar with the songs that you reference throughout. either way, i think the ones that you chose fit well into the story that you were trying to tell because the lyrics that you included were great. i liked the way that you used different time jumps for each section to build suspense and also reflect and show how certain events were influenced. thanks for writing this!!

MHA - Post Season 1 Wrap Up
Season one covered a lot of ground and introduced a huge number of characters. It’s, ah, pretty ambitious tbh. That’s a big cast to keep track of and keep everyone interested in. And while it looks like they aren’t staying restricted to 13 episode seasons (thank goodness) there is still really limited screentime to work with when you consider we’ve got... Baku, Deku, Momo, Todoroki, ... ... Ochaco, that’s her name. And also... Kirishima, Mina, All Might, Aizawa...Jiru... I could go on and on, at this point.
Most characters are a name, a power, and a big question mark. I’m not going to even try to cover the whole cast, just going to pull a few I have something to say about, but below are a few characters and my current thoughts/theories. I do a more general wrap up at the end as well with what I’m thinking as we go forward.
I’m 13 episodes in, with more than 60 total. I’ve got some work to go yet.
This is the part where I mention (possibly reiterate) that I really don’t mind spoilers (because I am of the mind that it’s not necessarily the bit of information but how we get to it/learn about it/etc that makes the story what it is) and because of that I am somewhat steeped in information about MHA that was not necessarily available when season one was originally released. This is not a blind watching of the anime, and so some of my theorizing is based on information that I know comes into play, but don’t know how. I don’t really go seeking spoilers and I have been slightly more cautious since I started watching, but yeah, some things are inevitable.
Bakugo
I still think he’s compensating for something. He is settling into class better, after the combat practice episode. But there’s something... hm. He’s not got a good base, and I’m still suspecting some sort of rough place in his history with his quirk bringing positive attention that he craved. ... Or negative attention, even. Anything is better than being ignored right? This is speculation, but that’s where I am with him right now. I was very proud of his actions during the Villain attack, but... his personality remains all sharp edges. Still not sure I like him exactly, but here we are. He’s not a bad character, just a complicated one.
... I really which I knew why Deku keeps calling him -chan tho bc that’s generally a term of endearment and hell if they don’t seem to really not like each other. Like were they actually friendly once? Because all the flashbacks have the friendliness as very... very one sided. On the other hand, it may just be that he calls him -chan because that’s the sort of person Deku is. Hrm.
Ahhhhhh. I’m actually excited to see where the rivalry drives them, I didn’t expect to say that. But the two of them are in a position to push each other very... very far. I still want to see him develop more as a friend of Kirishima tho. He could use actual friends it seems.
Kirishima
It took me a second to remember his quirk, right, hardening. Okay. So! He’s had a combined total of like 5 minutes of screentime, curse of a cast this large. He is intriguing to me. He has a very hero-like attitude, is the best way I can describe it. And by that I mean his general outlook on ... for example, he and Bakugo going after warpgate, he recognized that they got in the way, and it may have been partially their fault that Thirteen wasn’t able to stop things before they were all scattered. He wanted to fix that.
He works really well with Bakugo in a way I’m not sure how to describe. I do hope to see them becoming friends, to an extent because I get the sense that maybe both of them could use a friend. I have a slight guess that he may feel drawn to Bakugo because they’re similar in some ways - but I haven’t quite figured out how because they have very different outlooks, externally.
I kind of ship Kiribaku, despite aforementioned combined total of maybe 5 minutes. Don’t judge me too harshly.
I really wanna know more about this guy, I think that’s all.
Todoroki
Literally a name a power and a question mark. We know he got in on recommendation - of course we don’t know who’s, but I’m not sure it’s important. What’s interesting though, and Midoriya brought it up in the monologue during um, Hero Notebook, I think, and I realized he’s right. We’ve never seen him use the heat portion of his quirk except to release his classmates that he froze in the combat practice episode. He relies almost solely on the ice portion. Now, this could be because freezing people in place is super effective and he hasn’t needed anything more but it’s still... interesting.
Especially when coupled with the burn on the side of his face, around his eye. That scar reminds me of Zuko, ofc (seriously look at that picture. I’m not convinced the imagery was accidental). Don’t know how he got it yet, but I literally cannot imagine that that burn isn’t extremely important - it’s very prominent and honestly I’d be surprised they bothered with something like that on a character that’s already extremely identifiable by his hair alone if it wasn’t important to his character somehow. And I also suspect it’s highly likely that it relates to why he doesn’t use the heat portion of his powers.
This is partially helped along by listening to ‘Sparks Rise’ and ‘Burn’. Neither of which give any particular details but *shrug*. I’ll leave anyone who hasn’t heard them to consider their additions to what little we see in season 1, because he has more than Kirishima’s screen time but not by much.
So, with that in mind. Ice Zuko Todoroki here, due to comparisons in my own head with Zuko, I’m predicting some kind of family issues. Indeterminate type. And I’m hedging a bet on, he’s either becoming a hero bc his family is pushing him to, or because he wants to get back at a family member for something. Perhaps the burn?
I’m looking forward to seeing if we get to see him use his fire seriously at some point. And, of course, learning more about what made him the way he is.
Midoriya
Okay so our main protagonist, and to be honest the one we know the most about. ... I have questions, of course, like where is his father and do we ever find out? But for the most part, we know he grew up watching heroes and that’s why he’s doing what he’s doing. His ultimate idol All Might is grooming him as a successor and that’s... I mean awesome for him. Dreams come true and all.
Easily arguable as one of the weaker combatants because he can’t use his quirk without half killing himself. But he’s got that, um, ... I think i’m going to go with inspiring personality (one of my friends @that-one-gundam-guy called him a Labrador in human form at one point and tbh that is so accurate). He’s very we can do it, happy go lucky, but he’s also very determined and he is taking this seriously. Even if he is extremely nervous outside of serious situations.
Anyway, he’s got a really good head in a fight. Probably second only to ... Momo and Todoroki, he is extremely good at analyzing a situation and the strengths/potential weaknesses of an enemy. His habit of collecting and analyzing everything about Heroes he can find will definitely serve him well in the field because he can recognize how a quirk can be used and how best to get around it. .... Mind he generally won’t have the tools to get around it himself. Currently, at least.
Aside from the fact that he’s not yet mastered his quirk there’s the fact that he tends to freeze up in certain situations. But there’s time to get around that yet. ... Though I hope at some point he starts to get a style that’s... his instead of just him copying All Might. Like, given the way One For All works, it’s gotta be possible to do... other stuff with it? Stuff that might suit his... much... smaller form better? I mean, yes it’s a close range quirk and he’s going to have to get into close combat, but punches can’t possibly be the only option. Some variation would be good.
All in all...
There’s still a lot of ground to cover and I’ve got a lot of hope for the series. Lots of room for everyone to grow and maybe for some reveals that will expand on some of our characters so they’re more than a power and a name. But there are... like 20 episodes in next season, so there should be more screen time to do all of that in.
Somewhere out there we have Kurogiri and Tomura (see I do know Warpgate and Hands’ names... lol)... and whoever is actually commanding them. But they’re still out there, and that means that they are going to pull their forces together and try to come after All Might again at some point. ... And Tomura certainly took notice of Deku. That’s not going to end well.
Or no, it will. But not before it hurts like heck all, I’m sure. Not sure it’ll be this next season though? Depends on how far they want to drag that plotpoint out for, I suppose. ... And how many times Tomura and Kurogiri strike before they hit gold, so to speak.
I was thinking though, the person they were speaking to when they first got back to their hideout took some serious interest when Tomura mentioned ‘the kid’. Does one of our bad guys know about One for All’s ability to be transferred between holders? Because that could spell trouble for Izuku “I’m-still-breaking-bones-constantly" Midoriya.
Anyway, season one was good, and I’m looking forward to season 2!

He doesn’t have a sister, and the picture from Creating a Champion is his cousin and Uncle rather than his father and sister. Other than that the liberties I take are derived from canon events.
SELL YOUR MUSE! Aka try to list everything, which makes your muse interesting in your opinion to make them spicy for your mutuals. — I don’t play him how the fandom interprets him. And I know that may seem like a bad thing but its not. As someone who suffers from amnesia ( for a completely different reason than Link ) I come at it from a different perspective than “oh his whole personality changed cause he can’t remember anything. I play him more controlled and looking for a balance of what he lost and what he has found because going to far one way or the other is destructive to him, he wants that balance and has yet to find it. I don’t stray away from the fact that he does not want to burden people no matter what it is, and instead wants to help people, Link has a problem with saying no, its like not in his vocabulary, and that can be unhealthy especially when it comes to things he blames himself for. He is so complex and I try to make that be shown, I don’t want to slip into just seeing him as one way or the other because he is not feral, but at the same time he isn’t completely stone faced either.
Now the OPPOSITE, list everything why your muse could not be so interesting (even if you may not agree, what does the fandom perhaps think?). — I mean people could see him as just one thing. And honestly not gonna lie the fandom kinda does. They common phrase I see describing this version of Link is “wild gremlin child” or “feral” and that doesn’t interest me because in my opinion no matter your play style whether you are speed running the game or just playing casually nothing ever exudes that kind of energy. I don’t find that interesting at all, and I find it a gross over simplification of his character, which the fandom at large tends to disagree with me on.
What inspired you to rp your muse? — I love fantasy and the game. I love Breath of the Wild immensely. I have always loved Zelda but our games when I was a kid were my sister’s and I was not allowed to touch or mess with her stuff including her gameboy and games and shit. So Breath of the Wild was my first real experience with a Zelda game. I fell in love with Link and the story, and people say this game has no story and i disagree just because it is told retroactively does not mean there is not a story at all. Also its called the Legend of Zelda, Link has never been who the legends are about he is just the hero. So the Zelda focused story really intrigued me, but what intrigued me more were just the nuggets we got about Link. And I just had to expand on that and him.
What keeps your inspiration going? — Playing the game, talking to people, Watching zelda tubers even if I disagree with some shit they say. Always trying to come up with my own ideas and ways to make my version of this Link stand out and be different from other Links but other versions of this specific Link. I don’t want my version to be a copy, or even necessarily the exact same as what the game wants us to think.

I disagree with how Wild (my Link) is portrayed alot, and I know my version isn’t popular because of that, and it sucks. I know their are other better versions of my muse cause I see them, and I am so happy for them, but it also means I get shy about anything in regards to my portrayal. )

And let me explain, you are allowed to dislike my portrayal of Link, giving me reasons why you dislike my version, and what would make you like him is not hate. Saying that my version of Link sucks, is hate.
Do you like questions, which help you explore your character? — PLEASE SEND THEM TO ME!
If someone disagrees to a headcanon of yours, do you want to know why? — Of course. I write Wild pretty controversially especially within the popularlized Linked Universe, and stuff, so if someone disagrees with why I have certain headcanons I’d love to know why. Generally it will probably come down to Master Works or something. But sill I’d love to know why.
If someone disagrees with your portrayal, how would you take it? — I mean its fine. Its my portrayal, I am allowed to write Link how I want. Will I be down in the dumps about it for a bit? Yeah, probably, but who wouldn’t. The thing is I am a people pleaser so someone disagreeing with my portrayal will upset me a bit, but the thing is I’ll be upset because I want to make them happy, but I also want to stay true to my writing beliefs and how I write Link and how I think Link should be played. I don’t like that coming into conflict. It would be me more upset at myself for not pleasing someone than someone disagreeing with my portrayal.
If someone really hates your character, how do you take it? — Ignore it and move on. Well I would try. But hopefully if you hate Link you’re not writing with him.
Are you okay with people pointing out your grammatical errors? — Yes. Please if you want to correct my grammar please do. I take no offense. I don’t proofread my shit. So like go ahead you little grammar person. Be happy. I know my grammar is shit.
Do you think you are easy going as a mun? — I like to think so. But at the same time I get the feeling people are scared to talk to me ooc cause I have very few ooc interactions with people. I am not good at simple like “how’s your day” conversations. I do not do well with small talk, and that may make me seem closed off. But come screaming at me about a zelda theory or about your character and I will scream right along with you.

I loved your Kc meta on how Caroline is the last vampire left standing and although i pretty much agree to everything you made a comparison of Caroline's situation the the Salvatore's, the OG's and Katherine's but it's really not the same. Caroline will lose her home and everyone she ever loved. Everyone. And this will happen gradually. But for the others the had the knowledge that their family was still alive. and as for katherine she had already lost her family before she was a vamp.

Caroline Forbes ending up the only vampire in a show that is meant to be based on the vampire genre is an honor and a homage to everything this show once stood for. Every vampire of the show faced the same destiny you describe here. Damon, Stefan, Katherine, the Originals. And yet when their stories began and they were introduced to the audience everyone took in their story expecting to feel their age and get to know their ageless journey throughout the centuries. No one complained about their predicament. Everyone wanted to get more into it.
If so then I think you lost my point at the start a little. The point I was trying to make at the first part of my meta was how TVD was a vampire show that was not meant to revolve around human lives and be constricted to human morality and conventions and the idea of how a human life evolves through time. We as fans were meant to see through the darkness and the eternity and enjoy characters that were eternal creatures of the night that happened to suck blood and live throughout time. Yes every story can give messages and have parallelism between art and reality but in the end every fictional story is different. Every story uses different dynamics. TVD was based on vampire mythology with everything that came along with it. With the monster that lurks beneath the skin and eats people for lunch. With the promise of forever also. It was a show that was never meant to be about dreams of white fences and grandchildren and defanged vampires in its essence. It was meant to be a story based on the vampire lore with vampires that shared the same destiny of immortality and vampirism and so when Caroline became one she shared in the same sense the same nature and hardships every other vampire introduced in the show did. The good and the bad. The beautiful and the ugly including the prospect of forever with everything that came along with it. Not everyone would experience it the same way but it was a common theme of the species. And when the show began NO ONE complained about the vampires being...vampires. No one nagged about their predicament. Every tragic aspect of their nature along with every great one was highlighted and became a great story to be told. The weird mentality that vampires need to be humanized and should follow the ordinary lives of humans despite their nature became a thing in the minds of the fans when TVD stopped being a vampire sci-fi show and became a Dawson creek soap opera.
This was why Caroline as a character became a fan favorite to begin with. Because her best storyline that boosted her popularity was her transition to being a vampire in S2. Because she loved being a vampire. Because she excelled at being a vampire. Because she shined when she became a vampire character. Imagine that really... Fans that chose to watch a VAMPIRE show got to love the VAMPIRE characters and were intrigued by them. The most popular fan favorite characters with the biggest traction in the TVD universe had been vampires and were loved only as such. People got to rage about them in particular with violent obsession because they were serving the vampire genre and this was why people had originally tuned in with TVD. Damon Salvatore, Katherine Piece, Stefan Salvatore, Caroline Forbes, Klaus Mikaelson, Elijah Mikaelson, Rebekah Mikaelson, Kol Mikaelson. All awesome vampires that were great at being vampires in one way or another either as dark characters or tragic ones or something in the between.
So in a show like TVD that centers around the diaries of a VAMPIRE (from title, to theme, to genre, to presentation, to the basis and core of the show) having one character ending up the last vampire standing is a homage to the glory days of the show. To the very core of the show. To what the show should have been and what it once was. And that was Caroline. The one vampire that loved being a vampire. The one vampire that did not want the cure. The one vampire that persevered and relished at being ageless and strong and was better off with fangs and bloodshot eyes. And if the show’s quality had not deteriorated to the point where people were seeing a human-esque soap in the end no one would see the conclusion of Caroline’s story as something other than great.
Now as for the rest. For Katherine’s case for example, as you mention it in your ask, what does it matter if you lose your family before or after you turn? The end result is the same. The feelings are the same. The prospect of immortality under those circumstances is the same. In the TVD universe thousands of vampires exist. Not all of them have families. And for those that do it is not always unicorns and roses and they can get into very dark codependency paths. Sometimes family can break you and be abusive and promise you only misery and living with that burden for centuries and forever can be very tragic also. Having a family should not be glamorized by default. Sometimes you make your own family with friends and chosen ones. Sometimes you walk alone. Sometimes you do everything in different times.
Because in the end of it all every story is unique. Every person is unique. And family is not always blood. And feelings do not have a beginning and an end. You do not know what tragedy or what miracle each day will bring.
And let me turn this into a bigger rant because I get so mad when people create certain expectations and boxes for life. When people in this case pity Caroline because they have in their minds that life is a bleak place when certain things do not happen or when others do.
Yes life can be tough but no one can predict what will happen tomorrow. I have not watched TVD ever since season 4 but from the blogs I follow I am under the impression that Caroline fell in love with Stefan when he was still a vampire. Him becoming human and dying was not part of the plan. Neither Stefan or Caroline could have predicted their tomorrow. And that atrocious pregnancy of hers was also something unpredictable too in the narrative.
And this is life. Some may choose to see TVD as the end of Caroline’s story. Some like me choose to see it as her origins story. Just the beginning.
Even if Caroline was human how old would see be? 20? 24? So what would she do if she would lose everyone in her life at that age? Wouldn’t see move on? Wouldn’t see live? One day at a time. One tear. One smile. And you know that happens in real life too.
The same goes with Caroline’s life now. For every loss she will have a gain. Vampirism comes along as a blessing and a curse and this is why stories that include this myth are so popular. Vampirism gives eternal life and youth in Caroline’s case and beauty and powers and demands blood and even loneliness and greatness and wretchedness and dark and light. Time flows and cultures and societies rise and fall. An epic journey made for legends.
That is Caroline’s path. Some people chose to survive it, some others quit; and Caroline Forbes was not presented as a quitter. She was a survivor and no one can take that away from her. And pitying her like that is as if all her journey in TVD went unnoticed. Caroline Forbes can outlast and outlive torture and horror and terror and will do it with a smile. She is not weak. And she will get to live lifetimes with every lesson and hope and aspiration she has. You can try to put certain characters into archetypes but some are beyond them. Some can rise. Some don’t just survive. Some thrive while doing so.
And life does not end with heartbreak and it most certainly does not become a burden because of it or futile. I do not understand where this absurd notion is coming from. Life does not begin and end with a relationship that went wrong or with the death of a loved one or with pain and calamities. Or even with you ending up alone. You mourn. You grieve. You get up. You move on. You rebuild. You get to choose what makes you and what breaks you.
Caroline Forbes was presented as a strong optimistic character. She survived abuse and horrors and deaths. Where other fell she stood tall. She did not conform to what others expected from her. When someone told her that she could not do something she proved them wrong and she did it without losing her bubbly energetic personality. Her strength and her survival instincts have really deep roots. Either she has a family waiting for her or even when her own family planned to kill her (Liz in S2) or tortured her (Bill in S3) ...and even then she survived the pain and she was willing to live and retain her heart and she did it while she kept loving being a vampire (with or without family). This was never something Caroline negotiated. She kept fighting. And that is a great story to be told. And the fact that she remained the last vampire standing while everyone cried and broke was not a mistake or an accident.
And who can tell what her tomorrow will bring? Even when you get at your lowest there is always hope. Life is beautiful and a mystery. How more people Caroline will love? What kind of family she will be able to make in the future is she wishes it so? Just one? How many people she will meet? How many will touch her heart? What will she lose? What will she gain? Who will she become? What inventions will she see in their making? How many sunsets and stars will inspire her? How will she shape her life? What ties will she make with people and places? How many will break and which ones will remain unbreakable? What epic journey will come ahead?
We do not know. She does not know. And that is the beauty of it. Life is a journey. With its ups and downs and turns and twists. An unpredictable journey. Either it is for a few decades or more in such stories. And I honestly do not understand why people lament the unknown future in Caroline’s case when in reality it is just one more great story waiting to be told.

Smoother Start Than Expected!
SURPRISE! Another exciting Episode of Season IV just dropped. And to be honest, I have no idea how I’m cranking them out so fast!!
This one was more of a transitional aftermath Episode, which ultimately lead us to the Stage Select, but I’m really happy with all of the character set up and world building that went on in this chapter.
More detailed thoughts below.
One thing that’s funny about the writing process for this one.
I basically wrote the whole thing backwards!
Of course the first thing I did was a copy/paste of Rainy Turtloid’s recent death from Xtreme 2. The original scene dragged on so much between the dialogue and directions that I had to do a lot of flashes and ellipses within the scene.
...but anyway, we get to be reminded about Turtloid’s death, and the mood of that whole thing gets to somewhat tie in to the present, as we parallel Gate’s grief with Dr. Laye’s grief that the Sky Lagoon has fallen.
Writing Process wise, this is where it gets fun.
In order to keep the momentum going and get more excited about filling in the gaps between canon material and transitional fanon, I wrote the Stage Select scene out, practically in full.
There was a bit of Pre-planned writing done already for this scene, only for the Cyber Peacock mission.
But now, I was able to have fun blending the dialogue between X, Double, Zero and Iris together, as if they were all in the same room, exchanging those words at the same time. It was a lot of fun, and was actually a lot easier than I thought it would be.
Then I figured, it’d be best to keep Captain quiet and have his Computer take care of the directives.
The Stage Select scene mostly plays out like the game, except for the fact that X and Zero react accordingly to each mission directive. Zero, perking up at the Repliforce missions and X being intrigued by the mysterious threats.
There was an opportunity to have Iris get worried and panic about their impending war upon the Repliforce and I was happy to explore it.
Then I reached a point where I couldn’t really continue. X had the perfect epiphany to himself, and I started to think, “Whoa.. Did I just end the episode?” I thought it best not to continue until I wrote everything else first.
I literally took it a step back and handled the aftermath of General’s press statement. Originally I thought the episode would open with this, but I realized that other things had to be in place before I could show this scene.
In the aftermath of the press statement, Red looks at his TV worried.
I wasn’t sure if I was going to show Repliforce Incidents happening or not, but it was the best choice to make. I was able to go into Red’s head and have him quit, while we saw most of the Repliforce members prepare for war amongst their crew [quite quickly, I might add.] And then Jet Stingray’s attack on Sydney had to be a big deal.
This was becoming epic man. I was very proud of myself, and that was only maybe my 2nd session really putting this together.
I chose Sydney simply because it’s different. In Season I & II, everything’s been based in California. Season III, I based Doppler in Florida for that reason, just to have more of the U.S. get affected.
There isn’t much room for it, but I wanted to attempt at getting more global here, as much as I could. This Great Repliforce War is supposed to have big consequences!!
So yeah. That instance with Jet Stingray propelled the following scene further and definitely changed the dialogue between X and Zero in certain spots.
For my 3rd/4th session, I took a look at what I had and the only thing that I had left to tackle was the immediate aftermath of coming home the fallen Sky Lagoon.
The pattern here was, show Hunters upset - show Mavericks celebrate.
Showing the Hunters coming home right after their failed mission was necessary to me, because I felt that the Opening Stage needed a bit more explaining. Especially to Zero who was only there for half of it.
I will completely admit, I was afflicted with Writer’s Diarrhea in this scene. I couldn’t shut the two of them up or get to a point quick enough. I went back a bunch of times and tweaked what I could, but eventually I dealt with the fact that after Gate and the science community quickly lament, our heroes take a moment to really delve into what the Hell happened back there.
And for a 2nd episode that builds things up, I didn’t have a problem with it. [This is probably due to the fact that Season III’s episode 2 was nightmare long for seemingly no reason.] What makes this one different was that, actual things were happening. It wasn’t all fanon garbage that would be dismissed halfway into the season.
Anyway. The Hero lament was lengthy, and then the Villain celebration was almost just as long. I needed to tone this down and get to a point, quickly.
Unfortunately, this was another instance where Canon got in the way. During General’s press statement, we get to see Sigma chilling by himself in a random apartment or whatever-the-fuck. [I can’t say it’s a base, because in the game, we see him fight at the Final Weapon. And he certainly ain’t there in this scene.] So I had to make something up, and my best guess has always been that he found a nice little pad to stay in during the Repliforce War. This has been my theory for years.
So... During the Villain Celebration, I had the unique challenge of Sigma decided he was content with his plan to manipulate the Repliforce into fighting the Maverick Hunters. And now he wanted to uncharacteristically kick back and enjoy the fireworks. [Perhaps it is debatable that that is characteristic of him.] But either way, I basically had to give Split Mushroom his stage back. Without Isoc or Dark Necrobat there.
Basically I had to split up the team, lol. But make it look like they were all going on their own respective missions.
Cyber Peacock was easy. He’s in Cyber Space. He can be anywhere at any time.
Dark Necrobat was actually easy too. I thought it would be harder, but due to the nature of his Canon back-story. He was built by Sigma and never really... used. So he went off and did his own thing, ignoring the Maverick Agenda, not exactly seeing a purpose for it.
I knew way back in the day during my initial Grand Planning, that the best place for Dark Necrobat to be created and feel indifferent towards the whole Maverick thing would be during the Great Repliforce War when the Mavericks are scarce and not doing much.
It was tough to convince Isoc that this is what needed to be done. But I had him give in to Sigma’s idea, and suppose that he could probably find a better lab to work in. This initially pissed off Split Mushroom, who was happy to have the company.
I took this route at first, but after the scene became SO long and had gotten nowhere, I decided to take a more evil, selfish route, and basically have him kick them out. I enjoy this a little more, because it shows that the little guy doesn’t give a fuck.
I looked at that Villain scene so many times this past week, (and the Hero scene too, to check for transitional flow) that I had enough. I definitely tweaked a lot, and I feel, I got the Villain’s to talk about leaving way quicker in the end.
There was still good stuff on Sigma’s end, foreshadowing a far more wicked plan in X5, and I was glad to be able to hint at that.
A lot of things definitely went on in that scene.
One of the primary X6 Villains was basically kicked out of X4, an X5 Maverick flew away, Sigma went to look for a place of his own to relax and “enjoy this”. Timing wise, I suppose it’s believable that he found an apartment to inhabit in one night.
The very next day is General’s Press Statement to the public.
I didn’t feel a need to show stage directions in here, because we all know what that scene looks like. (If that’s lazy, maybe I’ll go back and change that, but the directions only break up the flow of dialogue.)
And then the rest of the episode was basically done!!
I gave it a couple of reads in full, and definitely changed a sentence here and there.
But then, I realized it really was done.
X has an incredible parallel thought between Zero and Web Spider’s Guerrilla Unit. They all dismissed him as a Maverick and left the Hunters at the very end of X2. But now all Zero is doing is dismissing the entire Repliforce as Mavericks without giving them a chance to explain themselves.
When I realized this amazing parallel, I thought it was gold. I’m still really impressed how that all came about, because I did NOT plan that, back in X2.
All that was left to do was create a final Narration from our Mystery Man.
Even back when it was Dr. Cain, the final narration was always the hardest part. Not every episode calls for one, but sometimes that final thought really clinches the whole thing and ties it all together.
I’m happy with what I came up with though. And if you read Ep. 0, it was described that this guy is kind of analyzing both the Hunters and the Repliforce. So I like having this Narrator come off as unbiased, and laying out the facts of what both groups are doing.
So yeah! This was good and fun.
I loved having X & Zero argue about where they should go first. But the decision has been made.
They’re going to Web Spider first!
I’m looking forward to figuring that out. See you guys in May.
