안녕하세요 여러분! Hello everyone! Let’s talk about the most crucial step towards learning the Korean language, which is learning how to read and write hangul! I know it seems scary and impossible at first glance. But did you know that the Korean alphabet was created with the purpose of being easy to learn? 

It took me 2 days to learn Hangul, and if you follow these steps and tips, you can also become a Hangul master in a short amount of time!

Study alphabet charts

You should start with becoming familiar with the different consonants and vowels. Looking at the romanization can help, but keep in mind that the sounds are not the exact same as their English counterparts. The letters above are the complete alphabet that you will have to learn, unlike Japanese students who have a huge amount of different “letters” to study (Yes, I am trying to make you feel better about learning Hangul)

Create your own description of the letters

What I mean by this is, create a picture or an object that reminds you of the letter. For example, the letter  ㅂ reminded me of the ears on Batman’s cowl. Therefore the letter  ㅂ reminds me of Batman, a word beginning with the same sound as the korean letter! 

Use Apps to learn on the go!   

I have two awesome apps to share with you when it comes to learning the pronounciation of Hangul letters. The first app is PopPoppingKorean. This app is the cutest thing ever! Use it to study the sounds and the difference between them, and as you advance you can practise spelling simple korean words. 

The second app I wanted to mention is Eggbun. Not only is this app great for perfecting Hangul skills, but it also gives you lots of information about Korean culture! Read about popular Korean street food, table manners, greetings and so much more! The app is structured like a chatroom, with an automated tutor monitoring your answers!  ———————————————————————————————- That’s all for this post! Please force yourself to read Hangul as soon as possible and ditch any kind of romanization. In order to pronounce the words accurate you NEED to read hangul.
